So. There was this rly good fic on ao3 which was an Anidala role swap au, where Padmé is a Jedi and Anakin is a senator. There were two fics actually, one called "Across the Stars", which follows the events of AOTC, and the other called "Fallen Star", which follows the events of ROTS. Because I'm a dummy, I didn't bookmark these beauties and now they only exist in my memory and all I do is cry to Anakin and Padmé's theme. Anyways, here's some sketches I did on the train.

At nineteen, Padmé Naberrie has her life under control. As padawan to Qui-Gon Jinn, she gets to travel the galaxy helping people. As lineage sister to Obi-Wan Kenobi, she has an inbuilt best friend and someone to help stop Qui-Gon causing mass disturbance. When the three of them depart on a mission to Kamino, she doesn't expect anything out of the ordinary.

Then, of course, her world collapses with the discovery of the clone army. As the galaxy dissolves into war, she finds an unlikely ally in Anakin Skywalker, a revolutionary from Tatooine who helped to lead his planet to freedom from the Hutts. Now trying to help a clone revolution and fight a war, Padmé makes up her mind to find the Sith who started all this.

Inevitably, this will either destroy the Republic or destroy her. She hasn't quite worked that out yet.

Yo @clawedandcute here’s Jedi Palme with inspiration from that one outfit

I drew her face a few times as a warm up and got distracted with hair ideas. The braid would probably be the most practical but the pins have the right vibes. I also felt like she should have some sort of head adornment as a nod to Naboo.

For the robes I messed around with how the different layers might work. The original outfit had a hood cape and the top had a layered wrapped look so I tried to keep those two elements through the different ideas. From left to right, the first one is supposed to be nicer robes for special occasions, the second battle robes with some armor, and the third is the same except the over robe has the hood not the purple layer.

The element of their forbidden relationship, combined with the closeness of growing up together. *cheff kiss*. It is the groundwork for a phenomenal story

Hi Karrde! I would like to submit two pieces of gorgeous art work for Fandom Friday. First up is this beautiful portrait of Padme as a Jedi by the supremely talented @vulpesarctica I really like how they are the traditional Jedi robes but they also have gorgeous details that allude to Naboo style and her canon outfits (the sleeves 😍)

Second is this cute time travel au comic from @stealingpotatoes Luke is not putting up with any time travel nonsense and immediately takes charge. In just a few panels the dynamic with Anakin/Vader is made so clear.

I LOVE both of these. The Jedi Padme design is just perfection (and I love that her lightsaber color is yellow. That's so spot-on for several reasons). And Potes's comics always make my day, but I do especially love this one and it's such an interesting idea. Thank you so much for sending both of these in!

"Why didn't the Jedi help Shmi after TPM?"

Why didn't Padmé.

Ignoring the expanded universe stuff about Qui-Gon sending the expensive lens or Padmé dispatching Sabé years later, so long after that Cliegg had already met, wooed, and saved up to free Shmi himself, why did Padmé not include "paying back the slave woman who helped me save my planet" in her post-invasion plans?

The Jedi have budgets that are regulated, to some unknown degree, by the Senate. Sure, there's probably some discretionary spending, but an Entire Slave would be flagged. Not a purchase you can hide easily! They're also NOT supposed to operate in Hutt Space unless undercover OR as official Republic envoys.

Padmé? Literally a queen. In the same galactic neighborhood. Has inherited wealth. Probably has room in her staff for a mechanic or something. Can easily justify freeing Shmi to her cabinet as payment for services rendered; remember, that Nubian hyperdrive was paid with Anakin's winnings, meaning they came at the cost of Shmi's freedom.

The real answer is that George Lucas needed Shmi to still be on Tatooine in AotC, and never bothered to expand on how Shmi was freed, himself, so other people took up the slack.

But if we ask why the Jedi didn't free Shmi, then I think we also need to ask: why didn't Padmé?

(I love Padmé. I fully believe she would have sent someone to free Shmi after Naboo was in order post-Invasion, and that it was just an oversight or even plot necessity from G Lucas. I just dislike the double standards of hating on the Jedi for not helping when Padmé is right next door and has That Cash Money.)
