(the new version)
Egyptian journalist and author
Mona Eltahawy once referred to the global
systems that control and endanger women as
the world's "oldest form of occupation."
Ever since hearing her speak in Dublin,
I wanted to explore that thought in a piece.
I wrote Swan Upon Leda in Ireland a year ago
and recorded it recently with producer Jenn
Decilveo. We were tracking it in studio when
the news came through of Roe v. Wade being
overturned. I felt there was an
opportunity to offer some show of solidarity.
We're reminded again by the protests in Iran
that progressivism is a global movement. The
recent pushbacks against civil liberties and
human rights respect no boundaries or
borders, and like all acts of control, violence
and indeed all forms of occupation, their
legacies can be immeasurable in both the
personal and political spheres.
Of all the songs coming from Unreal
Unearth, I wanted to offer Swan Upon Leda at
this time. I'll be making a donation to Mayday,
AidAccess and Plan C, organisations
working toward ensuring women and
pregnant people can gain safe access to
reproductive healthcare. I'll be offering links
where you can read about their work and
contribute to their funds should you be in a
position to do so.
Thanks, Love and Solidarity.

No words. ❤️‍🔥
Lyrics & more info under the cut
Her husband waits outside A cryin' child pushes a child into the night She was told he would come this time Without leavin' so much as a feather behind To enact at last the perfect plan One more sweet boy to be butchered by hand
But the gateway to the world Was still outside of reach for them Would never belong to angels Had never belonged to men The swan upon Leda Empire upon Jerusalem
A grandmother smugglin' eggs Past where the god child-soldier Setanta stood dead Our graceful turner of heads Weaves through the checkpoints like a needle and thread Someone's frightened boy waves her on She offers a mother's smile and soon she's gone
The gateway to the world Is gone in a tremblin' hand When nature unmakes the boundary The pillar of myth still stands The swan upon Leda Occupier upon ancient land
But the gateway to the world Is still outside the reach of hands Would never belong to angels Had never belonged to men

Hinds – THE PRETTIEST CURSE (MOM + POP)
Tumblr media
Wow, what happened?!  Let me be clear, I don’t mean that in a bad way at all, it just seems that this terrific Spanish band went from cool, wobbly garage rock to a real fun, more produced indie pop in the space of a year or two.  I like both sounds, but this was a surprise and a pleasant one at that. Yes the production is better but the songs are just as good and inspired, maybe more so and it sounds like producer Jenn Decilveo really inspired these ladies to take some changes and put their best foot forward. Opening cut “Good Bad Times” could be a dance floor hit in the right place and time and the silly, whimsical “Just Like Kids (miau)” is a burst of sunshiny ebullience. Elsewhere “Boy” is dreamy and soaring and they even toss in a lovely acoustic ballad in ‘Come Back and Love Me <3’ and not only does it work but it’s one of my favorite things on here and “The Play” just shocks with cool icy energy. I wasn’t expecting this record from Hinds (actually not sure what I was expecting) and in the wrong hands this could’ve been a major flop but it was in the right hands and The Prettiest Curse just might be the band’s best record (…and that’s really saying something).  www.momandpopmusic.com      www.hinds.bandcamp.com

On Tuesday afternoon, a group of female songwriters packed into a room at Pulse Music Group's L.A. headquarters for the second workshop in a series called REBOOT, a new initiative seeking to empower women in the music industry.
The latest installment tackled leadership in the studio, and included a panel of high-profile producers and songwriters: Jenn Decilveo (Anne Marie, Rae Morris, Madison Beer, Melanie Martinez) Bonnie McKee (Katy Perry, Taio Cruz, Britney Spears, Cher), and Claudia Brant (Camila Cabello, Carlos Santana, Ricky Martin, Josh Groban). The trio took questions from the room and shared their wisdom on how to advance into more of a leadership role within the studio environment.
