Aaron parks his car in the parking lot and walks to his flower shop. He didn't get enough sleep last night because the company that ships flowers to his store were two days late on their last shipping. He had to stay up all night complaining to the manager about his bussiness. In other words, Aaron was in a bad mood.
Aaron turns around to see Derek behind him. He scowls at him. Derek owns a tattoo parlor right next to his flower shop. Parents have complained to him about it being a bad influence on their children.
"Derek", Aaron replies. Derek gives Aaron his infamous smile which Aaron replies with his infamous frown.
"Someone's in a bad mood", Derek says, grinning.
"I had to stay up all night because the company forgot to ship the flowers two days ago", Aaron replies as they both walk to their stores.
"Oh, that sucks. Hey, wanna get a drink later?" Derek asks.
"No", Aaron replies as he walks into his flwors shop. Derek sighs in disappointment. He has been trying to ask him out for a month now but every time he always says no. Derek is ninety nine percent sure that he is gay. He remembers that he used to have a boyfriend a while back. So why does he always say no?
Derek walks into his tattoo parlor. It’s a pretty slow day so that means only a couple of people are coming in for tattoos. He sees his brunette friend on the phone, scheduling an appointment. She sees Derek and waves at him. Derek walks towards her as the brunette hangs up on the phone.
“Emily, slow day today huh?” Derek says to the brunette.
“Yup, how was your crush?” Emily asks Derek, teasingly. Derek blushes and looks away.
“I asked him out for drink”, Derek replies. Emily raises her eyebrows in interest.
"He said no", Derek says, dissapointedly. Emily stares at him for a second before lauging.
"Hey, it's not funny", Derek says, playfully hitting her in the shoulder.
"I'm sorry but why are you so obsessed with him? He's like the complete opposite of you. Your sunshine and rainbows while he's... gloomy and frowny", Emily says to Derek.
"Says the person who's dating a college professor who is also the complete opposite of you. What's her name again? Jenny?" Derek asks.
"JJ and that's not the point. He keeps rejecting you so why bother keep asking him out. You could have any other person so why him?" Emily asks Derek. Derek stares at her before replying.
"I .. I honestly don't know. He's- as corny as it sounds, he's different", Derek replies. Emily shrugs.
"Well, suit yourself. I got to go tattoo a butterfly on an eighteen year old again", Emily says as she leaves the front desk. Derek sighs. Sometimes, he wonders himself on why he wants the man next door so badly. And the worst part is that he doesn't have an answer. God, he wishes this day to go by so he could get a drink.
It was the end of the day and Aaron was at a bar. He usually drinks at his apartment but today he feels like going out. His ex, Blake, has Jack over the night. He just got out of a messy divorce and still is arguing with his ex-husband over custody. Aaron takes another shot of tequila, hoping it would drown his sorrows.
Aaron turns around to see Derek behind him. He would be lying if he wasn't a little happy to see Derek. He was wearing a dress shirt with his sleeves rolled up. Which means his sleeve full of tattoos are in view.
"Derek", Aaron replies. Derek sits next to him and order a beer. He then looks at Aaron curiously and sighs.
"Look, if you hate me then just say it", Derek says, catching Aaron off gaurd.
"I don't hate you", Aaron replies.
"Then why do always look so depressed whenever I see you?" Derek asks.
"Well I am going through a divorce and probably am going to have to fight custody for my son so ...", Aaron replies, trailing off. Derek looks at him, shocked. Shocked that Aaron used to be married and shocked that he has a son.
"Oh .. I'm sorry", Derek says. They both sit there is silence for a moment.
"I should go ... you obviously want to be alone right now", Derek says as he stands up.
"No I- Derek ..", Aaron says as he also stands up and goes after Derek. He pulls the other man towards him and presses his lips against his. Derek freezes, unsure what to do. Aaron notices and let's go of him.
"I-I'm sorry. I crossed the line and-", Aaron starts saying his apology before Derek pulls him again for a kiss. Aaron freezes before melting into his embrace. They both stay like that for a while, in the middle of a bar, not caring who sees. Derek pulls away and whispers something in his ear.
"Want to take this somewhere else?" Derek whispers in Aaron's ear. Aaron blushes and nods as Derek pulls him out of the bar. Derek thought he would never see the day when he would take Aaron to his house to stay over for the night. And god did he feel like the luckiest person in the world.
The next morning, JJ drops Emily off at the tattoo parlor. Emily was about to kiss her girlfriend goodbye when she sees Derek and Aaron getting out of the same car. Emily gaps on shock making JJ look at the two men.
"Oh my god", JJ says, catching both Aaron and Derek's attention.
"I'd never though I would see the day", Emily also says. Derek blushes as he holds Aaron's hand.
"Aaron, this is Emily and JJ. Emily works with me at the tattoo shop and JJ is her girlfriend", Derek says to Aaron.
"It's nice to meet you", Aaron says to Emily and JJ.
"Nice to meet you too", JJ replies to Aaron.
"Wait, so are you both dating now?" Emily asks with a big smile on her face. Derek and Aaron both look at each other.
"Well ...", Aaron says, looking at Derek. They never really talked about making it official.
"Yeah, we are dating", Derek says, wrapping his arm around Aaron's waist. Aaron blushes. Emily whistles making Aaron blush more. All four of them share a laugh.
Aaron and Derek both turn around to see a man in a suit calling out to them.
"Are you two .. Aaron Hotchner and Derek Morgan?" The man behind them asks. Both of them nod.
"Ok well, could we talk in private", the man in the suit says. Emily shares a worried glance and Derek before going into the parlor. JJ drives away in her car.
"Is there a problem?" Derek asks the man. The man pulls out his business card and gives it to the both of them.
"Uh yes actually. My name is Shawn Jones and I'm a representative for the city. So basically we need space in this block for a project we're working on", the man says to the both of them. Aaron looks at the man confused.
"So what are you saying?" Aaron asks Shawn. He had a feeling where this is going but doesn't want to believe himself.
"In other words, one of you needs to shut down your shop", Shawn says to the both of them. And just when things are about to become good, life hits them with this.
