Okay. Damn it all, I want AC fluff. Tell me, how do you Haytham would have turned out, if he were an Assassin and married Ziio if he knew she was pregnant with Ratonhnhaké:ton/Conner? Oh! And how would Jennifer act with Ratonhnhaké:ton and Ziio to boot? And fuck it, lets yet Tessa and Edward into this as well, let our boi meet his grandparents! XD
I sorta touched that in A Pirate’s Son so if you’re okay with Desmond bulldozing canon without even knowing the tragedy of the Kenway family, give it a read (or a reread)? XD
That self-promotion out of the way, let’s talk about how we can make this happen without involving Desmond.
For this one, you didn’t ask for Jenny to be trained as an Assassin so we’re going for the route of Jenny not being trained as an Assassin by Edward (although if you want a “Jenny becomes an Assassin” idea, here’s an idea we have before)
This ends with Jenny leaving the Kenway family and becoming an Assassin on her own, against Edward’s wishes. By the time he finally accepts her as an Assassin, their relationship is on the rocks so there will be a lot of repairs that needs to happen first.
But Jenny never hated Haytham and acts as a secondary mentor to Haytham.
In this scenario, Haytham grows up with both Edward and Jenny as his instructors. Birch’s plans are foiled because Jenny found out and took him out as an Assassin and Tessa gets slowly introduced to the Brotherhood to not spook her.
Haytham going to the colonies is because they learned that the Templars are making their move. So Haytham’s canon actions are now on the side of the Brotherhood.
He’s much nicer though but he’s also more reckless, having been influenced by his free sister even though Edward tried to teach him restraint.
His skills would be more on the side of his canon self but he would also use darts and he would use multiple holsters for his pistols. He also has a habit of stealing from others even though he has enough money since the Kenways are pretty rich. He usually steals documents or anything that seems valuable and may provide a clue. If they don’t, he’d just drop them and make it appear like the owner dropped it or left it somewhere.
He fell for Kaniehtí:io hard and asked her to marry him after they slept together, given the excuse of ‘I will take responsibility”. They both know it’s an excuse and Kaniehtí:io rejects his first proposal. He keeps proposing and they actually married a few weeks after Ratonhnhaké:ton is born and Kaniehtí:io saw just how happy Haytham is holding their baby.
That’s when she knew that Haytham doesn’t just fancy her and truly wishes for a future with her.
Edward traveled to the colonies for his ‘retirement’ with Tessa and they build a house in the homestead, acting more as an advisor than a co-mentor to Achilles. Haytham is actually being whispered to be Achilles’ successor. Edward and Tessa spoils their grandchild and Tessa is the worst offender, making the cutest clothes for him and carrying him everywhere even when they all knew he could walk already. Edward tells the best stories according to his grandson.
Jenny only visits when she’s sure her path won’t cross Edward. They’re working on their relationship but she’s not ready to see him in person yet.
She’s not a very affectionate person but her nephew loves him nonetheless because she always tells him the truth and even teaches him a trick or two.
Of course, Ratonhnhaké:ton ends up not being an only child in this one. XD

What are the favorite Four Seasons of the Disney Heros (non-Princes)?
As usual, I'm only going up to the end of the '90s, because I haven't seen that many of the later movies with male protagonists.
Pinocchio: Summer, because he gets a vacation from school.
Dumbo: Spring and summer, the best seasons for flying outdoors.
Bambi: Spring, when the forest is full of new life.
Peter Pan: Spring and summer, the best times for outdoor battles with the pirates and for nighttime flights.
Tramp: Spring and autumn, because they're neither too hot nor too cold outdoors – though ever since Lady's family adopted him, he's learned to like winter too, and celebrating Christmas with the puppies.
Pongo: Autumn, because it's a good season for comfortable walks, and because that's when his puppies were born.
Arthur: Summer – if his movie and the musical "Camelot" are in the same canon (and I wouldn't doubt it, since they're both based on T.H. White's The Once and Future King), he likes summer to linger through September.
Mowgli: Winter, because that's when the weather is best in India – after the monsoon season, but before it gets too hot.
Winnie the Pooh: Summer, because Christopher Robin is out of school and they have more time to play together.
Thomas O'Malley: Spring or summer, because cats prefer warmth to cold.
Robin Hood: Summer and early autumn – good weather for being outdoors in the woods.
Bernard: Winter, as long as he can spend it cozily indoors with Bianca, and not – as is too often the case – flying on Orville or Wilbur's back for another rescue adventure.
Tod and Copper: Late summer and autumn – good times to be outdoors, and in Tod's case, plenty of wild fruit growing, just right for an omnivorous fox.
Taran: Autumn – a moody, magical, adventurous time of year.
Basil of Baker Street: Summer – that's when the weather causes the least inconvenience when he needs to travel around the city to solve a mystery.
Oliver: Summer, because Jenny is out of school and has more time for him.
Simba: Summer, the dry season on the savannah.
Quasimodo: Winter, especially January, because that's when the Festival of Fools takes place, and that was when he met Esmeralda and Phoebus.
Hercules: Spring, the best time for athletics.
Tarzan: Summer, the dry season – that's always best when you live mostly outdoors.

Another possible intriguing hint at the origins of Hook from a discussion board on the J.M. Barrie website:
There have been various ideas about Hook's origin. While investigating Barrie's visits to Hastings (in Sussex, UK), I came across this piece which makes a claim for one Reverend John Maher, who once was a pirate, for being Barrie's inspiration for Captain James Hook:
The 19th-century owner of Brede Place was Moretown Frewin who married one of the daughters of Mr Leonard Jerome of New York. Mrs Frewin's sister, Jenny, became Lady Randolph Churchill, mother of Sir Winston.
In 1899, the Frewins let the house to the American writer Stephen Crane and his wife Cora.
An invitation to Brede Place became a must in the literary world and the Cranes entertained the greatest writers of the day. Henry James, Joseph Conrad, H.G.Wells, A.E.W.Mason, Rudyard Kipling and J.M.Barrie all stayed at Brede Place at one time or another.
It was during one of these visits that J.M.Barrie first heard the story which, years later, he was to use to help him to create one of the greatest characters of Children's Literature - Captain Hook........
In the early part of the 19th century, the parson of St. George's Church was a certain John Maher. To the good folk of Brede, he seemed a kind and caring man and was much loved in the village; nobody suspected that there was anything amiss.True, the Reverend Maher had a hook in place of his left hand but his story of a coaching accident was so convincingly told that nobody ever suspected anything different. The truth was far darker ... that hook was, in reality, the evidence of his murky past.
Far from having lost his hand under the wheel of the Oxford Mail Coach, it had, in fact, been unceremoniously and violently removed when the good Mr Maher had been illegally boarding a Tobacco Clipper in the Carribbean with a view to stealing the ship and its cargo; for before taking Holy Orders and buying the Living of Brede, the Reverend John Maher had, indeed been a Pirate!
Maher's eventual downfall came at the hands of a man called Smith.
Smith had been Captain Maher's bo'sun during his Piratical Adventures in the West Indies but the two men had fallen out and Maher had given Smith the slip while ashore on a Carribbean Island and had sailed back to England without him. Smith vowed "to wander the World" until he found his ex-Captain and could gain his revenge. Having worked his passage back on a Merchant Ship, Smith set about travelling from port to port to try to learn of the whereabouts of a sailor with a hook. One night, talking to seafarers in a tavern in Hastings, Smith came across the story of the Parson of Brede with the missing hand. A few discrete questions later, Smith was in no doubt. The genteel Parson _had_ to be none other than his former Pirate Captain.
Smith persuaded a local carter to take him to Brede and by the following morning, The Reverend Maher found himself being confronted, in his own church, by his worst nightmare.
Smith set out to break Maher by threats and blackmail. Eventually, the unhappy Parson was driven insane.
There is no doubt that some years after hearing this story, J.M.Barrie used it in the stories he told the Llewellyn-Davies children and in time, Maher became the demonic Captain Hook and Smith his 'loveable' bo'sun, Smee - who, Barrie tells us at the end of "Peter & Wendy", was condemned "to wander the World searching for his former mentor, Captain Jas. Hook".

Hello again 🥰 milf Lexa anon here
Can you talk about Lexa's struggles and insecurities with herself and her body after the divorce and when she started seeing Clarke?
Now this... this holds a special place in my heart. Because Lexa has a lot of struggles with her body. Which is something that she never had growing up. I mean she was the athletic type of kid, she never really had issues with stretch marks with too much fat where she didn't want it, she had abs and was head cheerleader.
Lexa looks like a mom. She's still a small woman but she does have all the signs of two pregnancies, stretch marks on her stomach, her legs, her hips, her butt and her boobs. Her stomach is definitely not flat, it has that pouch to it, it sticks out a bit and it rolls. Her boobs sag more now, her arms do a little flap and her thighs and butt will fight her in any jeans she buys. She's very soft looking, even her jaw isn't has sharp as it once once. She's not just a milf in name, she really does have the soft cuddly body to go with it 🥺
The first post-pregnancy, although leaving some insecurities in Lexa, was fine. She managed to go back into working out and her stretch marks were soft enough where they didn't bother her unless she really started to pick at them. It's after Delilah's birth and the longer recovery time after the c-section as well as doing most of the caregivers work for a toddler and a newborn that Lexa started paying so much attention to how she looked and started to feel unattractive, with Jenny's horrible comments really not helping her at all.
After the divorce, Lexa become a little depressed. She felt like it was her fault for not trying harder to keep them together and that maybe she had given up too soon, on both the marriage and herself. She felt like a horrible mother anytime Alex would ask her why mama wasn't with them anymore or why he had to wait so long to see her again. Afterwards she was far too focused on trying to give her kids a stable home and making the new apartment actually feel like the home they had before. Her relationship with her body become distant, she avoided mirrors when she could because she could still hear Jenny's words in her mind and the last thing she wants is to have to focus on something that is so minimal in the grand scheme of things. Her kids were what was important, not her issues with her body that did nothing but give her the two people she adores the most.
For the next decade Lexa hides herself as best as she can. She makes sure every "problem area" is hidden and goes for a looser style, jeans and a slightly bigger shirt so it won't cling to any little roll on her body, dresses that make her feel like she's trying to hard to stay young, with patterns that distract from what's underneath. She does it rather unconsciously, if she can not think about her body she will and will just go by instinct. She tries to join a few yoga and pirate classes with Anya but she feels out of place there, mostly single women who have lively social lives or new moms who seem to have their shit together better than Lexa has years into being a mom. She also never dates, one because she doesn't want to and two because she cannot even fathom someone being attracted to her, physically or even just with the live she lives where she barely has time for herself, much less a girlfriend.
Before they start actually seeing each other, Lexa is shocked by the fact Clarke seems so attracted to her. Clarke is... Clarke. She's a gorgeous late twenties woman with a great career and a future so full of opportunities, Lexa doesnt understand why she is so interested in a relationship with Lexa whose life is settling down and really set in Lexa's eyes. She's not having more kids, she doesn't see herself moving out of her apartment, moving jobs, traveling the world, nothing of that sort. But Clarke looks at her and flirts with her in a manner that makes Lexa actually feel desirable again and she forces Lexa to stare at the mirror to try and find what Clarke sees in her. On the other side, it does make Lexa a little more self conscious, particularly when she realizes she's very attracted to Clarke to. Suddenly her clothes feel to lazy but she still doesn't have the confidence to go an buy ones that show her off more, not that Clarke needs them to stare at Lexa likes she's anything other than a goddess. Although it's not what solves it completely, when her and Clarke start getting more intimate and Clarke seems to adore every inch of her body, Lexa really sees how much Jenny fucked up Lexa's relationship with herself and her body and that with Clarke, she might be on the track to fix it, something she never thought would happen.
😌✊️ when I tell you Clarke refuses to let this beautiful woman think of herself as anything other than fucking perfect!! A MILF lover like no other!!!

Miniskirt Space Pirates is a Fun Novel Series!
I finished reading all 12 volumes of Miniskirt Space Pirates! Took me about a year, but it was very much worth it. I've been a fan of the Mouretsu Pirates anime for a while, and the novels really didn't disappoint.
Key takeaways: -Gruier Serenity, the space princess who shows up in the second major arc of the anime/second novel, is far and away the funniest and most fun part of the novels. Her introduction arc is a good dose of her wanting to dismantle a genetically engineered monarchy to which she belongs. But in later novels she will very blatantly use that position to get what she wants, which usually involves helping her friends, especially Marika. --She also has the ability from years of political training to identify with high accuracy when someone is lying, which comes in mighty handy at various points in the series. --In general, she's less interested in seizing power for herself and more in supporting Marika in her adventures. With the caveat that she sometimes gets to pick out what Marika wears.
-Text in the first novel, Marika’s first interaction with Chiaki pretty heavily hints that Marika is attracted to girls. (from v1, p109) JP: "女の子同士なのに、なんでどきどきしてるのよ" EN: "Why is my heart pounding? We're both girls."
-Space elves called "Metheuselah" exist and live for very, very long periods of time. Well in excess of 200 years.   --One such space elf is Jenny Dolittle's history professor Athena, whose teaching style irritates Jenny enough to make her travel back home and kicks off a series of events that culminates in a stable time loop where the Yacht Club travels 110 years back in time and ends up persuading the Galactic Empire to intervene in their civil war. Part of that time loop involves Jenny telling Athena when she was a graduate student that she would make a good teacher.
-The author Sasamoto writes in his afterwards about actually being involved in an amateur rocketry group, and that experience is really reflected in the work, which puts a lot of emphasis on realistic engineering and space facts. The third novel's cosplay pirates arc is essentially the Yacht Club girls going through a space engineering boot camp and features mundanely hilarious things like them being unable to land a shuttle because they packed so much luggage they had to mount some of it to the shuttle's landing gear. And the ninth volume features a bit where Marika orders the crew to be ready for takeoff on short notice, but they've been given authorization to use a state-of-the-art docking bay, so everybody starts getting into a full-scale overhaul of their system. --This is an article on one of the group's major rocket launches, one in 2019 that went over 100 kilometers into the atmosphere:
-One of the series' regular villains, Jackie Kelvin, is a no-goodnick with poor hygiene and no sense of organization who somehow keeps just out of reach of his pursuers and achieves his objectives in the sloppiest ways possible, notably stands out from the generally more grounded technical setting. He's kind of an anti-engineer and has a little bit of light novel protagonist in him. Every other major character in the series hates him. --He uses the pseudonyms Jackie Fahrenheit and Jackie Celsius at various points in the series.

And yes, I've got the whole 1986 movie rewrit too.
Elita One and The Transformers: The Movie begins thirty years into the distant future of 2016. EDF Agent Jennifer "Jenny" and her partner Arcee are chasing after a group of evil Decepticon gangsters known as the Four Cards. The four Decepticons are able to outsmart and outpace the EDF and steal an ancient time machine from the museum. Arcee and Babs vow to go into the past and find them, but they're unable to triangulate exactly when they arrived in the past. They decide they'll just go off the most recent energy signal and travel to the year 1996.
Unbeknownst to them, the Four Cards accidentally sent themselves 65 million years back in time and are forced to hibernate to survive. They reserve all their extra fuel cells in a sealed chamber to keep them safe from potential looters.
In 1996, Carly is busy preparing for her wedding day as Elita One watches guard for Megaempress and her ilk. Moonracer convinces her to take a load off and relax, but no sooner does she so that when Megaempress, Slipstream, and the rest of the Decepticons crash the party. A battle breaks out, but both groups are stunned into stopping when a beam of light cuts through the sky. When they arrive at the source, they find a "strange futuristic Autobot" and an unconscious girl. Neither group believes Arcee's story, and in the confusion, Slipstream blasts both leaders in the back. Megaempress is trapped deep within a mountain and Elita One is gravely wounded.
Arcee heals Elita's wounds and relates her story in full to the Autobots, who are still unsure but significantly more trusting. As Elita One lies unconscious, she dreams of a massive combined robot destroying Cybertron and killing Queen Codexa.
Megaempress discovers the sealed chamber and the slumbering Four Cards within the mountain, and upon opening the chamber, becomes transformed into the terrifying Empyrean. The Four Cards awaken and name Empyrean their new queen. Empyrean wastes no time reveling in her "future powers" and kills Slipstream.
Elita One awakes and accepts Arcee's tale before ordering all the Autobots to get to Cybertron because the queen is in grave danger. Empyrean beats them there, beats up all the "Autobot Boys" and kills Codexa. She sets the Autobot's ship wildly off course, and it crash lands onto Planet Junk.
There they meet Rum-Maj and her wacky band of space pirates who give them a much needed morale boost and reinforcements to beat the new Decepticons. Empyrean still isn't happy with all her efforts, but as she sifts through the destroyed Iacon Castle, she finds a tale about a mystical artifact called the Life Spark that can quadruple her firepower.
Elita One, as it so happens, is also aware of this artifact, and then it becomes a race to get to it first. Obviously the good guys win and the bad guys lose... and it turns out that Jenny was really Spike and Carly's kid all along. Who'da thunk it?
Roll credits and air Season 3!
Since Elita One isn’t killed in the film, what would happen to Arcee that would make her so hated and Elita One so beloved? Overexposure!
Constantly being complimented and taking center stage in all the episodes post-movie, being made the ruler of Cybertron in the series finale, basically supplanting Elita One’s place as the leader simply by just being her… Arcee is given the royal treatment for basically doing the least amount of effort. Gotta sell them toys!
This leads to a lot of fans calling her an “obnoxious mary sue” and blamed her for being the reason that Action Masters and equally weird gimmick toys exist. Oh well, maybe they'll mellow out by the time Beast Wars rolls around.

THE QUICK + DIRTY : a brief ( ish ) rundown of what a generated anomaly has been up to since her episode.
after throwing herself in front of the doctor to save his life, jenny seems to die and is taken off to be prepared for burial. the doctor leaves before the funeral. but jenny, having not known regeneration was possible + through the shock of being shot, was having a delayed regeneration. she wakes up, high off regenerative energy, and steals the rocket the messalinians had used to get to the planet in the first place. she doesn't know where she's going, exactly, she just wants to see the universe - and perhaps some instinctual knowledge she might need to get away.
she doesn't get far between the engines on the rocket begin to give out - and so does she. overwhelmed with the pain and just . . . chaos of regeneration, jenny attempts a crash landing on a remote moon and regenerates fully.
it's so important to note that this first regeneration + the moments after are all extremely traumatic for jenny. she had no idea that this was even a thing she could do, not to mention it came after an already traumatic event of her dying. overall she is not having a fun time, mentally, and is a bit fearful of "it" ( she doesn't even have the word for it ) happening again.
she finds a way off the moon which turns out to be a kind of space pirate hidey-hole and begins a brief career as a pirate. the adventure is fun, but somehow she ends up inciting a mutiny. whoops!
there are a number of other adventures interspersed after this and before her first visit to earth: freeing neglected animals from a space zoo, getting arrested a handful of times - alright, more than a handful, accidentally ending up in a coliseum-esque fight to the death, getting expelled from three different universities, etc.
she wins a vortex manipulator in a poker bet and when the loser attacks her, she escapes aboard his ship. thus begins her attempts to add some extra flair to it, including the ability to travel in space as well as time.
this tinkering culminates in her first visit to earth - a miscalibration and some bad luck, she'll say. she crashes into the dumpster of a pub in yorkshire. one of the bartenders - a girl named charlotte, or chuck - watched it all happened, helped get her cleaned up. jenny'd found herself in the 1970s on accident. she ended up staying a year before she could figure out how to fix the vortex manipulator and when she did, she invited chuck along. she was her first love.
they would end up parting on . . . amicable, but still bittersweet terms later.
since then, jenny's taken up a couple jobs. she worked for UNIT, briefly, under strict conditions that the doctor not be informed ( they hadn't met again, yet, and given the way he'd reacted to her on messaline . . . she didn't want to take chances ) nor anyone else. she's been a mechanic, she's been a bounty hunter, et cetera.
my main verse isn't really strictly anywhere along this timeline . . . it could be anywhere, but will most often be after she's left chuck.

Triple M’s Pirate AU
the pirate au was created by quippy set in a world of pirating and adventure! the triple m cast take on pirate themed roles such as pirate crews, tradesman, travelling traders and noble aristocrats. clawdia leads her crew as captain with her crew consisting of lloyd, mango and morgz. the sauce siblings are tradesman who occasionally travel with clawdia and her crew. mitzi is a travelling trader who does her own thing mostly but sometimes hitched a ride with clawdia and co. keith leads another pirate crew which he’s using to hunt for an untold treasure with his crew consisting of the twins pepper and star. on the mainland are lillibelle, daughter of an aristocratic family, jenni and peaches, younger sister of mango who’s staying with the pair on the mainland currently.
Inverted Fate AU
the inverted fate au was created by soupy set in a world where everybody’s fates are flipped on their head and everybody is quite the opposite of his usual self. mango has turned from his mischief to being a good boy and miso has done the opposite and is getting into mischief instead. the same goes for the rest of the cast too!

the triple m ace attorney au was created by soupy set in the ace attorney games with each cat being assigned a character in the phoenix wright and apollo justice trilogies. featuring in the main role of Phoenix Wright is mango with his weird girl teen assistant and spiritual medium morgz as Maya Fey. this au was made for self indulgent purposes to fuel soupy’s ace attorney interest.
The AU Where Everybody Is Part Of The Circus
this au with the very lengthy name is set in a world where all of the cats are in a circus and act in different roles. it was created by both quippy and soupy stemming from a joke about mitzi running away to join a circus (a now canon point). there’s a whole lot of clowning around.
Warrior Cats AU
the warrior cats au takes place in the world of warrior cats and focuses on Rowan Clan which is a small clan of cats who are recovering from a war that killed many cats in the clan. the clan consists of both the cats but also some of the dogs who were made into cats for this au such as doug who is Dogstar within the au and acts as leader of the clan. the story focuses on the kittypet mango running away from his twolegs and becoming a warrior apprentice by the name of honeypaw.

Chapter 12: The Tavern Tales - Life of an Ostwick noble (Part 1) Cullevelyan fic
Varric and Bryony share some tales about their past. The Herald talks about her brothers and sisters (mainly Hector); meanwhile Varric reunites information for his new book and tells her about Hawke and her love life. Cullen won't be participating in this chapter, he decided to train his recruits (none were happy about that)
---------------------------------
“Ah, Herald! There you are!” Varric waved at Bryony the moment she entered the tavern. He was sitting in one of the corners, away from a group that was having a toast very loudly. Apparently surviving Cullen’s training required a small celebration afterwards.
“You seem so calm before heading into danger again.” Bryony welcomed him while taking a seat, then looked momentarily at Flissa.
Is not the first time Bryony has gone into the tavern, sometimes she pays a visit in middle of the night if a sudden nightmare punishes her, it could also be if she’s reading or training and needs some fresh air. By this point, Flissa already knows what to do once Bryony gives her a small glance.
“Well, what can I say. A dwarf needs some ale if it’s going to explore while killing some crazy mages and templars. With Cassandra I might add.” Varric gave a huge sip to his mug after explicitly mentioning the Seeker. Bryony made a small laugh.
“I suppose Cassandra is not the company you expected to have for a long time.” She remembered the time when Varric was joking about Cassandra dragging Josephine by force into the Inquisition. She smirked at the memory, that was before she almost drown in the Hinterlands.
“Look, Handy, I’ve been traveling for years with a possessed apostate, a pirate lady that almost betrays us, a blood mage that almost falls for a demon’s trap and Hawke. And, if you ask me, all of them are more enjoyable than Cassandra, even if Hawke’s the worst of them. I never expected to be alongside my personal captor.” Varric said with sarcasm. Even if he described his friends that way, they were still his friends whom he missed. He’s being meaning to write them some letters, but the Inquisition believes that he has no contact with them for years now.
“Well, technically she is also my captor… I think so, we’ll work something out, you’ll see,” she said with one of her enthusiastic smirks, “so tell me, since our current team is very small, which crazy person should we recruit now? We have an Orlesian mage, a Red Jenny, a Grey Warden and a qunari” Varric’s skin shivered a bit when she mentioned the qunari. He doesn’t hate them as a whole, but he knows that they want to conquer Thedas the moment there’s a chance.
“Look, while I enjoy saving the world, let’s leave that topic when we head out and Cassandra is there. At least if she suggests something I can leave the blame to her.” He gave another heavy sip to his ale, emptying his pint.
He was about to order another one, when Flissa arrived with Bryony’s drink and one extra for Varric. The dwarf again put it on his tab.
“Alright then, what do you want to talk about? Please don’t tell me that it’s about my family.” She asked while smelling the drink, then she scrunched her nose while finally taking a look at the mug.
“You got me there. It is about your family. Four brothers and six sisters? How have you remained sane?” Varric went directly into the question; he usually plays around the bush before diving in. But Bryony seems like a person who prefers direct questions and will answer them without any issue.
“Who says I’m still sane?” She answered in a clever way. “Also, I think this one is yours.” She said while handing her mug bursting with foam.
Varric looked at his foamless mug, lacking the usual alcoholic odor. “What is this thing? Juice?” He asked while looking with a confused stare at the drink. It looked black, although the candle light wasn’t helping with the color.
“Grape juice to be specific, it’s my favorite.” Bryony took her mug and gave it a sip that emptied the content.
“Not a fan of a good ale, then” he faintly chuckled while looking at the apparent noble from Ostwick drinking as if there was no tomorrow.
“More like I can’t drink the stuff, terrible things happens when I drink,” she said without thinking. Immediately, Bryony realized she was talking with someone who likes to narrate stories about their friends. She looked towards Varric and he was indeed smirking with curiosity, “but do not pry on that one. I won’t tell a soul about it.” She glanced again towards Flissa and the bartender girl was readying the next mug.
“Oh, come on. How am I supposed to write about the Herald of Andraste if she doesn’t want to reveal the juicy information? Might as well I’ll fill the gaps with my own imagination, just as I did with Hawke.” Varric remembered that time he wrote about Hawke having an obsession with chocolate. Now that he was looking at Bryony drinking an insane amount of grape juice, plus the ones she always carries with her, maybe this one wouldn’t be so farfetched from the truth.
“I thought you were asking about my family, you know, the Trevelyans. Besides, I never said I wouldn’t do it, just not for free, at least,” she laughed about it, afterwards, Bryony looked at Varric who was rising one of his eyebrows. It looked like Varric has found a good deal.
Bryony, on the other hand, raised her scarred eyebrow and leaned toward the dwarf. “Say, it is true that Hawke was very jumpy with Anders on the bed? I’ve always thought that was a bit exaggerated; but, then again, there is no way to confirm that, unless the author is willing to share some information.” Both of them smirked at the response.
Varric realized that Bryony was willing to reveal her darkest secrets in exchange of some juicy gossip from the adventures he has lived previous to the Inquisition. And what can Varric say, he can’t let pass such a tempting offer.
The Herald, as well, was offering this for her own good. She was very curious about Hawke and her companions; in a way, it was the same thriving information sensation that Cassandra had three years ago when they captured Varric. Although, Bryony’s method seems way more approachable. Also, Bryony wasn’t a dumb lady, she may act like it, but Lydia was her mentor. She knows that bearing the title “Herald of Andraste” is already something that will follow her until her death bed. Escaping such name is futile, especially if the Inquisition wants to take advantage from it. Rumors will start to spread among the organization, and to every corner of Thedas.
The same thing happened with Hawke and Amell. Both ladies, even today, have some crazy tales following their shadows. The Hero of Ferelden is a bit luckier than Hawke thanks to the Wardens keeping everything in secret. But Hawke? There are some hideous stories regarding her. Some of them reached the Ostwick’s alleys and, for time, fooled many of their citizens.
Bryony already thinks that there might be some nasty stories about herself already, so what’s better to stop those rumors… than spreading some “new” rumors which are actually the truth. And what better than one of the most valued authors in Orlais.
“Ha! Madame, I like you. How about this. You tell me about your family today and I’ll tell you about who was actually the one kneeling down on the bed.” Varric commented.
“Sounds like a deal!” She raised her mug towards Varric and he responded in the same fashion. The clashing sound of the wood mildly echoed in the place before being silenced by the rest of the recruits dancing alongside Maryden’s songs. “So, tell me. What exactly you find interesting about my family?”
“Well, nothing in particular. I doubt your family had a drama compared to the Amells. I heard that you are the first of the family to possess magic?” He was regretting he didn’t bring his small notebook and quill. He sounded a bit bitter while realizing this.
“That we know of,” she snaped her fingers towards the dwarf, a small lightning spark emerged briefly from the tip, “there must be an uncle who slept with a mage and there is a bastard on the streets. But what do I know? The moment it was public that the main family had a mage between them, it was over.” Bryony finished while remembering the looks of her family that day. Her face looked sour.
“So, you just burst flames out of your ass one day?” Varric saw the quick change in her facial expression. He proceeded to make a joke question to lighten up the mood.
Bryony genuinely chuckled at it. “It was lightning, actually. I punched an asshole in the face while casting a spell without realizing it.” She made a fist and covered it with static.
“You better tell me that story another time. And your family just accepted you were a mage and then kicked you into the Tower?” Varric was enjoying his ale; it’s been a while since he had good company.
“Oh no, there was a huge drama beforehand. My father accused my mother of cheating on him, since clearly the Trevelyans didn’t possess magic in their veins. Of course, he was just being an idiot, since we look alike, I even got his eye color.” Bryony proceeded to explain Varric how exactly they looked up in their family tree to find any magic evidence; as well as asking people who were present during Bryony’s birth. “After accepting that I was a true Trevelyan, they kicked me towards the Tower.”
“Oh, the nobility, aren’t they charming? I’ll take that your family and you have a bad relationship. Except for… what was his name again? Hector? The one that gave you the letter.” Varric now was imagining Hector as an older Bryony, but as a guy, bulkier and with a beard. Maybe I’ll ask her later for a physical description or she’ll never forgive me.
“The only Trevelyan worth mentioning or talking about. My mother and father only care about living in luxury. The rest of my brothers are Tobyn, Greysen and Henfrey; my sisters are Amalya, Malyn, Nancy, Ellyn, Mylla and Wynifreed.” She named them while counting with her fingers. For some reason, when she mentioned Nancy, she looked bitter and cold in her eyes.
“Wait a minute, all of your brothers have a “y” in their names?” He tried to write their names in the air, Bryony just nodded with her head. “I’m surprised the elder brother doesn’t have a “y” in the name. He was the test baby before trying a new style?”
“His middle name is Lyn.” She answered while resting her cheek in her hand and smirking.
“Never mind then.” Varric lifted his arms in the air, he didn’t know why he was giving up exactly.
“Basically, Hector is the one who will inherit the Trevelyan state. He is, after all, the firstborn son, the rest of the brothers try to either get a higher rank in the templars or make a business on their own. My sisters are looking for the richest men in Ostwick so that they can marry them, although I believe one found a man in Starkhaven.” Bryony finished her pint and asked for another one.
“Sounds like you don’t have that much contact with your family.” Varric remembered the old sweetheart Gamlen.
“Well… no, that usually happens when you end up being a mage. Once you enter the Tower, you may as well lose all contact with your family.” Bryony answered.
“Wait, that also happened in your Circle? Weren’t nobles safe from being locked up forever? I thought that Kirkwall was the only shitty one.” Varric sounded confused since he also heard that Ostwick’s Circle was very sedate and part of that was due to some of the freedom they allowed to the mages.
“That is if, and only if, the noble family wants to… and I never left the Tower thanks to my family.” She specified her family since she got away from the Tower many times, but that’s another story she might not tell Varric. “Hector was the only one that visited me from time to time, and even those were limited to once per year due to his duties.”
“Even if one of your brothers is a templar?” Varric asked, Bryony tried to remember which of the guys was the templar one. Then she snapped her fingers again.
“Two, actually. Hector was Knight-Captain for a time. He left so that he could focus on serving his family duties, yet he was a strong image in the Order. If he today asked the Order that they… I don’t know… dance in Val Royeaux wearing a pink armor, they would do it. Such is the confidence and loyalty he left. Tobyn is currently a templar in Markam.” Bryony didn’t mention how is it that Hector left the Order so easily. It was better to keep that information classified.
“Well, isn’t family a wonderful thing? Hawke has an uncle that left her family without an estate. Meanwhile, my brother almost left me to rot in a damn thaig in one of the Deep Roads. Cheers to them.” Flissa arrived just in time with more rounds, that way both were able to clash their mugs again.
“You better tell me that story some other day, your book sure sounds like it cut some parts in it.” She didn’t remember any Gamlen while reading the book.
“You’ve read my book?” Varric was genuinely surprised, according to his editor, Ostwick wasn’t a fan of his stories.
“Of course I have.” She winked at him. “When the Circle fell, I moved to the Trevelyan estate again. Hector gave me various books so that I could pass the time in peace during those three years.”
“Then how about this? Next time we share another drink I’ll tell you that tale.” He winked in response.
“Sounds like a plan. Anything else you want to know about my family?” Bryony asked.
“How about your brother Hector, is there anything special about the man?” He was curious about him and see how different Hector was from Carver.
“Technically everything about him is ‘special’.” She made an air quote. “My family is very proud that he is a flawless man. They describe him as perfect… and he is. It is said that every Trevelyan excels at something. Amalya is good at singing, Tobyn at organizing, Ellyn is actually part of some dancing performers, and so it goes. Then there’s Hector, who apparently is good at everything, or, at least, tries to be. There is this weird competition between brothers.” After she finished speaking, she gave another sip to her mug.
“Oh? Tell me more about that.” Varric was already elaborating how he could either exaggerate that feature, or make fun of it, depending on how jerk the brothers are.
“Hmm, oh, I know. Greysen is very good with money management. That’s why his business is flourishing quite well. However, since Hector is the house leader and, in theory, we have our own shipments and trades, he needs to be better. Meanwhile Greysen just wants to have a quality that exceeds Hector’s; hence he competes with our dear brother.” She massaged her temples while remembering their bickering, Greysen’s bickering.
“Sounds like your parents wants to make themselves proud for having that insane number of babies.” Varric answered sarcastically, waiting for Bryony’s laugh, however, she remained stern.
“It is, my dear Varric, it is. They do want to be the first most illustrious family in all Ostwick.” The apathetic look in Bryony’s eyes was priceless.
“I suppose that you might also have something you are good at, then.” Varric commented, he needed information for the fictional Trevelyan.
“Besides being the first mage in the family? That was something not even Hector was able to surpass. But, speaking in common abilities…” Bryony crossed her arms and began to think, “fighting would be my guess. I know how to punch a guy in the face.”
“Yeah, no shit about that. How were you able to break that templar neck with your legs alone on our last mission? Aren’t mages supposed to be wimpy bookworms and-” he was going to continue, but then he remembered that Ivy defeated the Arishok alone, not to mention that she physically trained every day, “never mind. I suppose that’ll do for now. What do you want to know about Hawke?”
Bryony remained in silence for a moment. While she is interested in the kinky stuff, she more curious about the relationship between the two mages.
“I know I asked about the ‘jumpy’ part, but since I’ve told a huge portion about my family… how about her romance in general? Is it true that Hawke stayed with Anders even after he exploded the Chantry?” That was never mentioned in Varric’s book, yet rumors spread everywhere.
“Sadly, that’s completely true. Now, I’m not someone to hold grudges, unless you are my brother and betray me over my back. Or if you are Anders and betray Hawke over her back. So, let me tell you how exactly it started and why Hawke decided it was a good idea to get jumpy with the apostate.” Varric ordered some cheese since he knew that the conversation would take some time.
Varric didn’t include many of the details related to Hawke’s private life. Sadly, none of the participants wanted to spill the spicy details about their romantic and private life. However, he was present when Isabela was talking with Hawke and presented the idea of being the one on the top, that and some other postures which Hawke may have or not tried (knowledge which was beyond Varric). What is known is that a few nights later, Anders had to stay in bed for days, he didn’t complain at all and seemed very satisfied afterwards.
Bryony had a laugh with Varric’s company. It was moments like this where she forgot the small sting her left hand would sporadically expel from time to time. If only she could do this without having an alarming hole in the sky. The minutes passed and, at some point, both stopped drinking for their own good. Bryony wasn’t getting tired from Varric’s stories; she knew some of the events were either exaggerated or covered up, after all he might be protecting a friend from a total stranger. The Herald wondered if she could ever meet the so famous Champion of Kirkwall.
In middle of the conversation, there was one of the recruits reaching towards Bryony, stumbling a bit. She hoped that her presence didn’t disturb the Herald.
“Excuse me, madame Herald,” the recruit was a bit nervous in her tone. When Bryony looked upon her, the recruit stood firm, “S-ser! Your carriage has arrived! Lady Josephine told me to deliver the message.”
“Oh, that’s true, I need to depart today. Has Badulf departed already?” after drinking four pints, she cleaned her lips in the most noble way, even with her pinkie lifted up.
“You mean the man that was drinking tea with the Ambassador? Yes, he departed already. The moment your letter was delivered, he finished the conversation as soon as possible.” She refused to see eye to eye at the Herald, she even seemed a bit flustered with her presence.
“I see… thank you,” she sounded a bit discouraged, Bryony wanted to speak with Badulf a bit more, “well then, Varric, I believe I’ll be taking my leave, I have an appointment at the Ghislain Eatate.” Bryony spoke while rising up from her chain and gave the last bite to the cheese Varric ordered.
“Orlais? Aren’t you going to take your favorite dwarf on this adventure? Don’t tell me that Cassandra asked you to have a girl-to-girl moment.” Varric stood up from his chair while sounding offended in a fake manner, he was looking at the recruit and the way she looked at Bryony. Looks like Handy has a new admirer.
“She’s happy she won’t be coming, actually. Madame de Fer sent only one invitation, so it’s up to me if I’m going to recruit her. Don’t worry, I won’t be using a dress, you won’t miss a thing.” She winked again at him, oblivious to the recruit at her side.
“Madame de Fer? Isn’t that the Orlesian mage? You already decided who are you going to recruit?” Varric was confused by her choice, then he remembered that Bryony herself is a mage, maybe she is faintly biased, he theorized.
“At least in this case, for the rest I’ll ask for your opinion. As a matter of fact, this mage happens to be a dear friend of my mentor. Well, was, before my mentor died years ago. My teacher used to say many things about her.” There was a bit of remorse in her eyes.
“Such as?” Varric asked, he realized that there was a certain bias in Bryony’s choice, one not affected by the mage and templar dilemma.
“I think that the most important one is that ‘either she can be your best ally… or your worst enemy’. Sounds like a gamble I’m willing to make.” She looked determined on that matter; it was a glare she would always make every time she saw a demon on the battlefield.
“A word of advice, if you don’t mind.” Varric added.
“Of course not, what is it?” she welcomed his words with a warm smile.
“Leave the qunari at the bottom of the list. Nothing personal, I don’t hate them, but it won’t kill us to be a little prepared before meeting him.” Bryony was surprised by his suggestion.
Yet, she remembered the invasion that  Kirkwall suffered and didn’t blame his precaution. Every Ostwick person would sympathize with him, her country doesn’t have double walls because of a superfluous motive, after all.
“Alright, I don’t see any problem with that. Then, either it will be the Jenny or the Warden afterwards.” She looked at the recruit, who immediately headed towards the door.
“Sounds like a plan, don’t forget to buy something fancy for me in Orlais.” Varric added with his cocky smile.
Bryony waved towards Varric while she was heading outside the tavern. The nice cold breeze woke her up momentarily. She hadn’t slept at all due to her studies, however lady Vivienne sent a carriage for Bryony. The Iron Lady wanted to give a nice presentation for the Herald of Andraste. Meanwhile, Bryony would take that chance to take a rest while on the road.
She stretched her legs a bit since she sat for a long time. Bryony tried to remember when was the last time she had a conversation like that. Has it been that many years ago? She thought for herself while remembering her time in Ostwick. She continued walking slowly while the recruit got ahead without realizing that Bryony wasn’t following her anymore.
Bryony had between 15-16 years old. Everyone was sitting around a wood fire they improvised with a spell Bryony had barely mastered. They were more scared many would be set on fire that night rather that being soaked in water from the rain they barely escaped. After no one got injured, everyone managed to recover what few edible rations they carried and shared a drink while singing in middle of the night.
All of her friends were laughing and smiling while a strong hand left a small pat on Bryony’s head. She looked at the templar and he was glancing at her as well with a warm and gentle smile. Her shyness couldn’t allow her to pursue more that night. But that was alright. After all, he never made a move, not even before his transfer.
Bryony got back to the present, feeling some snow piling in her hair and nose. That was one of the last happy memories she had with that crew. She shook off the snowflakes quickly and resumed her walking towards the carriage. The messenger was nowhere to be found.
Then the carriage must be in the outskirts of Haven.
Just as she was approaching the entrance doors, the Commander came from the other side, already finishing training his newest recruits. Behind him, one could take a peek and see some of them laying on the floor. Most weren’t carrying their armors anymore; others would bring water to those who couldn’t move.
Both the Herald and the Commander stopped when their eyes met each other. Bryony was the first one to greet him with a gently wave of her hand. Cullen responded almost immediately, although he stuttered at the beginning and for some reason his throat felt dry.
Maybe it was his guilt for turning down the invitation. He wanted to go to the meeting. In fact, his training ended very early. None of the recruits knew he could train them on record time. The Commander actually sparred with them, and no trace of fatigue was shown in his face.
Cullen thought that maybe, if he ended his session quickly, he could catch up with her and Varric. Before encountering the Herald, he was walking at a faster pace than usual. Alas, Bryony was already outside and, by the looks of it, already satisfied with whatever topic she had with the dwarf.
“Ah, Herald, looks like you already finished your letter, I assume?” Discouraged would stay short on how disappointed Cullen felt on himself. On the outside he remained calm.
“Yes. Apparently Badulf already left. I wanted to say good-bye before I leave too.” Bryony looked at his almond eyes. She spotted some sweat droplets near them. Was he training too hard?
“Ah, you are leaving for another mission?” This time he couldn’t hide his low morale, his voice sounded soft, yet sad and broken. He didn’t admit it, but he wanted to clear part of his training duties that day so that he could have some free time the next day and visit the Herald. And now she is departing for another mission.
“Yes. I’m going to recruit Madame de Fer. So, I’ll be away for at least a month, or three weeks if the horses are fast enough. I’m not planning on staying too long in Orlais.” Bryony noticed that Cullen’s tone sounded different. She wanted to approach him and ask if everything was fine, but that would probably be awkward.
“I see, then I hope we gain a new ally, Herald. We’ll leave that matter to you.” Cullen remembered his place and returned to his stern, professional tone.
“I’m surprised in how you guys are leaving me those duties with ease; shouldn’t you be more cautious about it?” She raised her scarred eyebrow, sounding a bit worried about her future work ahead in the Inquisition.
“It might not seem like it, but we are. Leliana mainly is the one who keeps in check that nothing gets out of hand,” Cullen added, he noticed that Bryony seemed a bit discouraged at the truth. He wanted to say something nice about her, “as for me, I see no problem with it, I trust that you aren’t going to take advantage of your position.”
“You… you do?” Bryony faintly blushed a it while looking innocently at the Commander. That was an expression that melted Cullen’s poor heart.
“Of course! It may not seem like it, but your judgement has proven to be fair and honest. I could ask no better in a comrade.” Cullen added while taking in her expression all to himself. He didn’t know what he had done right, but he was enjoying it.
“Thank you,” she lowered her gaze towards the dirt, more blushed than ever, “I should get going, I don’t want to leave my host waiting for too long.” Said Bryony and then passed alongside him with a full smile.
“Right, yes. Please be safe, Herald.” Cullen finished while turning around and gazing at Bryony’s back.
He was smiling like a fool, a reddish color in his cheeks as well. There was something in the Herald’s smile that would always get the Commander’s heart. Cullen gave a faint sigh while looking at Bryony getting inside her carriage. Once she was out of sight, he resumed his way to his room.
Yet, when he turned around, the Commander stopped dead cold the moment he saw Varric, not so far, looking at him.
And probably he saw how Cullen was gazing at Bryony. The smirk in the dwarf was proof enough that he did.
---------------------------------
This one took more time, but I wanted to give a chapter to my favorite dwarf. Next chapter will focus again on Cullen and Bryony, plus some new allies.
Any questions, comments or even prompts are welcome!

wip title game
RULES: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPS.
Thank you for the tag, Alya @griffin-wood ! I’ll list everything in my Tumblr drafts + Google Docs that I haven’t fully given up on yet lol, but this is a fairly generous interpretation of “in progress.” Where there is no title, I’ll give the first line. Some have multiple titles or lines given because I’m writing them in multiple drafts and/or in Google Docs because I’m uh a mess.
