my hsmtmts hot takes:

(im going to be stoned for this i know it)

i did not care about rina in the slightest until season 4

seblos (as a ship/couple) is just sort of...there for me. i have no big feelings towards or against them. they're definitely cute, they just don't stay on my mind

though i loved the fashion upgrade that came with it, i hated the way kourtney was written in season 4

i don't care about madlyn that much. (i also don't like call it what you want all that much)

season 4's hsm3 songs were not done well (save for can i have this dance, high school musical (the finale) and dani's high school musical, and now or never (auditions) the mixing was bad, they had dara sing too high for i want it all and the singing itself just wasn't that good

^i loved most of the original songs tho

they should've never brought in any of the original hsm actors (save for kaycee and lucas in s1) they made a corbin a twisted version of himself in s3 and the rest of the actors in s4 were so overhyped just for them to barely be there

i actually liked portwell together. they both seemed so happy and i will never forgive the writers for building them up just to ruin them in s3

^speaking of s3 portwell, i will also never forgive this fandom for treating ej like he was some old man preying on a child and treating him like the villain (this is a rant by itself so we'll tackle that some other time)

i've never liked nini (or rini)

the rina hat only works because they got together in the end. imagine if a friend put a secret love confession in a gift for you and you find it after both of you get with someone else. i just find it weird to do that sort of thing when you don't even know if there's mutual feelings

i was on ricky's side during most of the rini discourse (save for him going behind nini's back and getting her a part when she didn't want one)

while i love both jennzzara and jetney, both of them were quickly thrown together at the end with hints that there were crushes in the air for both of them

i will forever hate that they chose frozen as s3's musical. the only songs i liked were what do you know about love and love is an open door

for a show about students putting on a musical, they really just did not show a lot of the musicals

^for s2, i've been giving them a pass because it was during the first year of covid so they were probably limiting how long people could be dancing around without masks (but i was still robbed of belle's yellow dress on ashlyn and ej and biggie playing gaston and lefou)

and finally, this show pairs people up so fast with no real development for either the people or the couple itself. the show really could've benefited from growing their characters without a relationship being the driving force and then worked on building romantic relationships once they figured out what to do with each character

Watched episodes 4-6 and Ricky Bowen is so unhinged this season, i love it 😭😭😭 Also rina failed couple costume because their out of sync and finally revealing their dating, i love it. Also my heart dropped when he said he needed a minute. MADLYN ALMOST KISS?!! Ruined by that pumpkin ghost, jarred is a fucking weirdo??? SEB CHEATED ON CARLOS???? Loved the original song this episode tho and jet simping for kourtney.

WITH BIG RED??? The way that gina’s motivation and way of finding chemistry is ricky 😭😭😭 I love them. Ej giving ricky advice on gina and caswen hug and i love you, i love their friendship. Glad, he’s with val. Loved their duet. The redlyn break-up was inevitable and i’m hoping it’s leading towards madlyn even if madison answered maddox’s phone. I MEAN SHR HAD A PICTURE OF HER IN HER LOCKER SHSHSHSHW Jealous ricky is a serve, i love it. HE’S TIRED OF LOOSING PEOPLE GIVE HIM HIS HAPPY END. Terri was annoying me in episode 5 like you told your daughter no boys and then you make an exception for a famous actor??? Like stfu. You don’t even know your daughter. I KNEW IT WAS COMING BUT RINA RAINKISS KNOCKED ALL THE AIR FROM MY LUNGS!!! AND THE CHOCOLATES?! A SPIN HUG IN THE RAIN TOO, I LOVE THEM, THEY HAVE AN INSANE CHOKE HOLD ON ME😭😭😭 Also, Love Kourtney’s storyline and jump was so good and Emmy is such a comedic relief, i love her.

Ricky calling her sweetie, awww. NO RINA TROYELLA??? I HATE IT HERE. Emmy’s episode 6 storyline, my baby she just wanted to sing ☹️ FLASHBACKS! Kourtney and Ashlyn were so cute in the scene with their little pact. Love their friendship. BENJAMIN WAS IN A BOY BAND?! BIGGEST PLOT TWIST OF MY LIFE. Awww miss jenn worrying and carinh about carlos without even really knowing him. MOTHER from the beginning. SEB AND NATALIE??? He’s so unserious “I was in a serious relationship. With a woman.” Seblos over again, they’re so cute. Get back together. ALSO THE AMOUNT OF SWEARING THIS SEASON ENSNEJWJS, IT KEEPS GETTING ME SO OFF GUARD. “He’s singing the damn song!” RICKYYYYY. Close-up on all the couples unofficial and official, they’re all endgame. REAL!! Gina flashback!!! Yes, she taught herself how to knit a hat. “Find something you like about this school and try not to kill it.” Runs into ricky. It’S A RINA FLASHBACK!!! I miss gina 1.0 but i love season 4 gina sm. Gina convinced him to join the musical and she joined because of him!!! “Love is lame, idiot. That’s why i try to avoid it.” NOT ANYMORE. Ha! “Good luck, skaterboy.” HE WAS A SKATER BOY, SHE SAID SEE YOU LATER BOY. They’re so fucking tethered and soulmates. THEY OWN MY LIFE! Alyson reed giving miss jenn advice and her joining east high omfg. TRUST THE PROCESS PERIODDD. GIVE RICKY A HAPPY END MF!!! THESE ARE HER CHILDREN DEN MOTHER FRR. OMG! DREAMS DON’t DIE!!!! Emmy’s voice is gorgeous, all the songs hit so hard this season tf. It’s the little rina moments this episode for me. ALYSON REED AND BART JOHNSON HELPING THE DRAMA DEPARTMENT AWWW! Gina not wanting to say i love you first i get it and i’m a ricky saying i love you first truther. RICKY GOT INTO COLLEGE!!! MY BOY! 1.8 GPA?! BOY, WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING THESE YEARS. Awww, as long as gina’s there his future’s locked, she’s his future 😭😭😭 NO, WTF WAS GINA’S CALL ABOUT IF IT’S SOMETHING BAD IM THROWING HANDS.

Do they watch supernatural? Hsmtmts edition

For the purposes of this. I’ll be listing if they watch supernatural and what they like about it. There will definitely be some of my Patented Unpopular Opinions. So please consider this your first and only warning. Everybody got that? Good. Then let’s begin.

Rina. Gina has caught some of supernatural. She’s not a huge fan. She prefers the Lucifer show. Ricky’s obsessed with supernatural though. His favourite episodes are I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Third Man. Needless to say he’s a massive Sam fan. And he gets incredibly angry when Sam’s mistreated.

Seblos. Carlos is certainly aware of supernatural. But he’s not necessarily a fan exactly. When he watches it he bemoans the wardrobe and fighting choreography. He finds all the angels creepy. Seb likes the show well enough. But he’s still trying to figure out the family tree from Once Upon A Time. So episodes like Changing Channels and Dog Dean Afternoon tend to fry his brain.

Redlyn. They both watch supernatural for the lore. And for Sam. And for both versions of Ruby. And for Jody Mills. Big Red knows who got Ricky and Seb into the show but he’ll never tell anyone who it is. No matter how many times Ashlyn asks him.

Jetney. They both watch supernatural. Jet loves the car. Kourtney spends all her time dragging Dean for filth. They both like Sam though. And no. Jet doesn’t know who introduced Ricky and Seb. He does, however, have his suspicions.

Ej. He watches supernatural. He just wants the car. And he’s jealous of Sam’s sideburns. He’s a little freaked out by the brother’s codependency. But he’d take that whole situation over the corpse any day of the week.

Emmy. She would love to watch supernatural. But her parents have forbade until she’s fifteen. She wants to watch it purely because she knows that Dean Forester from Gilmore Girls is in it. That is literally the only reason she wants to watch it. Nothing more. Nothing less. Well. She likes to think about the violence. But mostly it’s because she knows that Dean from Gilmore Girls is in it.

Jennzzara. Mrs Mazzara has banned Miss Jenn from watching supernatural in his presence because she keeps complaining about how they kept turning her down when she auditioned for the, ahem, “coveted” role of Unnamed Corpse Number 20 all the way back in 2007. Mr Mazzara doesn’t watch supernatural. Never had. Never will. He prefers Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

Maddox. She LOVES supernatural. However, she is a giant Charlie Bradbury fan. But hey. Nobody’s perfect, after all. Plus, she’s also the one who introduced the show to Ricky and Seb. Nobody except for Big Red knows yet, though. She lives in ever-so-mild terror that Gina and Carlos will find out before she’s got her defence ready. Big Red has sworn not to rat her out, though. And she’s grateful for that.
