Love Is Not Over
✏️Taehyung x OFC ✏️Friends to Lover AU 🛑 Rated 18+ 📖WC: 1997 ⚠️Mentally abusive and controlling ex, stalking, mention of anxiety cheating, COVID, drinking, drunk hookup, masturbation, oral, accidental marriage, accidental pregnancy⚠️
Mae always wanted to go to South Korea and visit all the places her Aunt and Uncle used to tell her stories about. So after catching her fiancè cheating, she did just that. Her two month trip turned into a permanent stay thanks to covid lockdown. A friendly neighbor turned best friend, who just so happened to be part of the biggest music group in the world. A drunken night that changed her life forever.
Chapter 7
“Mae, can we come in?” Kimberleigh’s muffled voice asked through the door.
Mae finished hanging up the towels she’d just used before opening the door to her room. With a wave of her hand she ushered her three best friends in to sit on her bed while she continued to put her wet clothes up so that they could dry.
“Are you mad?”
“No, why would I be mad?” she scrunched up her face in confusion.
“The guys showed up early. Veronica pushed your ass in the pool.”
“Hey, that was an accident.” Veronica argued.
“But you still did it.”
“I’m not mad at anyone.” Mae chuckled and joined her friends on the bed. “I’m just still in shock.” she admitted.
“You aren’t the only one.” D said, taking a sip of her drink. “You should have heard the noise that Kimberleigh let out when Jungkook stepped out of the car instead of the delivery guy.” she laughed.
“I was just a little surprised is all.” Kimberleigh said, picking at the imaginary fuzz on the blanket.
“Among other things, judging by the purr that came out of you.”
“You purred?” Veronica asked with a hint of amusement.
“Hey at least I didn’t tell him to fuck me senseless!”
Mae and D sat at the head of the bed and watched the two of them argue while they shared the glass of wine D brought in. They thought about stopping them when their volume went up so that the guys wouldn’t hear, but they were too entertained.
“Taehyung saw the pictures of me in the lingerie that we took in Colorado.” Mae spoke over the two women.
Veronica and Kimberleigh stopped arguing and looked at her.
“Why do you say that like it’s a bad thing? A lot of people have seen your pictures.” D shifted on the bed to look at her.
“But I don’t know them and I don’t care what they think of me.”
“Mae, did you think the guys would judge you?” Kimberleigh asked.
“A little, yes.” She answered truthfully. “Every time I wanted to tell them all I could think about was how Tyler would react.”
“Mae sweety, none of those seven men are like Tyler.” Veronica placed her hand on Mae’s leg. “Even with us not knowing them that well, we can tell.”
“I know. It’s just that he’s still always right there in my stupid brain.”
“Is that why you haven’t been with anyone? You’re afraid you’ll end up with another Tyler?”
“Kind of, I mean, I didn’t make the best decision with the first one. What if I fall for another one like him.”
“You won't.” D said bluntly.
“You don’t know that.” Mae looked at her friend.
“I do, we all do. You aren’t the same person who fell for Tyler. You’ve grown a lot these past three years, you’ve become your own person who knows what they want.”
“And we won't let you.” Kimberleigh added. “Even if it means taking another fifteen hour flight here to kick your ass. Plus, I doubt any of the men you have in your life now would let anyone hurt you. Especially Jimin and Taehyung.”
Mae snorted when Kimberleigh said Taehyung's name. “I doubt Tauhyung would care who I dated.”
“Jimin’s right. You two really do have blinders on when it comes to each other.” Veronica laughed.
The four women stayed in Mae’s room and chatted a while longer. They completely forgot about the four men in the house until Jimin showed up at the door, to make sure everything was ok.
“Well if this isn’t something out of a dream.” Taehyung said, from the hallway behind him when he saw the four women on the bed.
“Oh, speaking of dreams,” Jimin stepped further into the room. “Are you going to tell..”
“Nope, not going to happen,” Mae got up from the bed and cut him off before heading toward the door. “I am not going to tell any of you.” She said over her shoulder.
Mae stopped in the doorway when Taehyung gently grabbed hold of her arm. “Are you ok?” he asked.
“I’m ok, no need to worry.” Mae answered, giving him a small smile.
“Oh my god it’s Taehyung!” Veronica’s hand immediately covered her mouth when she realized she’d said that out loud.
“Mae, is there something we should talk about?” Taehyung smirked, tilting his head trying to see Mae’s face. He still had a hold of her arm and he could see the blush creeping up her neck as she stood frozen in place.
“I’m so sorry Mae, I didn’t mean to say that out loud.” Veronica said from the bed.
Mae turned her head toward Taehyung. “Can you please let go of my arm?” she asked softly not looking at him.
She gave him a soft thank you when he did and headed toward the kitchen. The moment she entered, Yoongi handed her his drink, which she quickly finished.
“What the hell was that?” Mae asked with a cough.
“Whiskey.” he answered standing up to make himself a new one. “Do you want another one?”
“Something less strong would be nice, please.” Mae sighed when she sat down. “I’m not trying to get shit faced.”
Yoongi laughed and poured her a glass of wine. “Sounds like you might need to.”
“What the hell did I miss?” Jungkook asked, carrying in some more takeaway.
“Another one of Mae’s deep dark secrets was just revealed.” Yoongi answered handing Mae her glass.
“I’m guessing they figured out that Tae’s the one she’s been dreaming about?” Jungkook said, causing her to choke on her wine.
“How did you know?” she asked, wiping some wine from her chin.
“Mae, did you know you talk in your sleep sometimes?” Jungkook asked.
“Yes.” Mae whined and put her head on the table. “Thank you for not saying anything.”
“It wasn’t my place to tell.” Jungkook shrugged and then placed the food on the counter.
After she’d somewhat recovered from her embarrassment, Mae helped Yoongi and Jungkook reheat the food that the women ordered earlier. The group of eight sat round and chatted while they ate. Yoongi told them that Seokjin, Hoseok, and Namjoon didn’t come with them because something came up at the last minute. But he assured them that Seokjin was planning a big dinner for when they got back to Seoul so that they could meet the rest of the women.
“Where are we sleeping?” Jungkook asked with a yawn.
After dinner the group moved to the patio to enjoy the night air while they finished their drinks and chatted.
“There are two rooms and the couch that aren’t being used. “ D pointed out. “The beds are pretty big so someone could always share a room.”
“Jimin can share my room.” Veronica said, sitting up straight. “I mean, if he wants to.”
“Maybe we should get to know each other a little more before we share a bed.” Jimin laughed at her bluntness.
“I’ll share a room with Mae.” Taehyung looked at her with a flirty smile.
“Like hell you will.” Mae said after recovering from choking on yet another one of her drinks.
“Why not? D said the beds are big. You could have your side and I could have mine.”
“Not happening, Taehyung.”
“What’s wrong, Mae? Are you scared you won't be able to control yourself?” Veronica said with a laugh looking at her friend who was currently giving a death glare to the man sitting across from her.
“How did you figure out it was Tae she was dreaming about?” Jungkook asked Veronica.
“Can we please not talk about this?” Mae sighed and leaned her head back.
“It was actually pretty simple.” Veronica said proudly and turned toward Jungkook. “See, when Jimin asked while we were in her room, she started to blush instantly. Now, we knew it wasn’t him because she told us it wasn’t, so that only left one other male that it could possibly be.”
“How did you know she wasn’t lying about Jimin?” Yoongi asked.
“Oh, Mae was a terrible liar growing up so we know all of her tells. She’s gotten better at hiding things, thanks to her ex, but if you knew them, you’d be able to spot them too.”
Taehyung watched Mae as the others continued to talk. He noticed the change in her every time someone mentioned her ex. He didn’t know much about what happened between them, only that he wasn’t good to her. If anyone was watching her like he was, they would’ve seen the flicker of sadness in her eyes before she corrected it.
“I’m going to head to bed.” Mae said, standing up. “It’s getting kind of late and I’m exhausted.”
“Mae,” Kimberleigh’s concern made her turn at the sliding door. “Are you ok?”
“I’m fine. Just tired.” She gave her a small smile and said goodnight to the group.
Mae took her time getting dressed. She wasn’t really tired, even after the busy day they had. She just needed some time alone. Especially after hearing how good she’d become at lying since being with Tyler. It wasn’t something she was proud of, all the lying she had to do, to herself and to the people around her.
“Would you like the left side or the right side?”
“Jesus!” she yelled when she exited the bathroom and found Taehyung sitting on her bed.
“No, Taehyung. But close enough.” The smile he had on his face fell when she didn’t react. “What’s wrong, Mae?”
“I’m just tired, Tae.” she sighed and plugged in her phone before putting it on the nightstand.
“Mae, I’m not an asshole,” he reached up and grabbed her arm, getting her attention. “I can tell something is wrong. You can talk to me, you know.”
“I’m not usually picky about what side I sleep on. So, I guess I’ll take the right side.” she said, changing the subject.
Taehyung let go of her arm and watched her walk around the bed to turn off the light and shut the door. He waited until she was in bed before he got up.
“Where are you going?” Mae asked as he walked towards the door.
“I’m going to the couch.”
“But I thought you were sleeping in here?”
“So now you want me in here?”
“I didn’t say that.” she pouted.
“But you don’t want me to leave?” He asked playfully, trying to get any kind of reaction out of her.
“I didn’t say that either. I only asked where you were going.”
“You are a confusing woman, Mae.”
“No I’m not.” she said, a little offended. “You are a confusing man.”
“I’m going to sleep on the couch because it seems like you need some time alone.” Taehyung admitted. “But it’s good to know you’re ok with sharing a bed.”
“Think whatever you want, Taehyung.” Mae said, rolling over and snuggling further into the blankets.
“Goodnight, Mae.”
“Night, Taehyung.”
“Oh and sweet dreams. Try not to dream of me.”
Taehyung laughed and quickly shut the door when he saw her arm shoot out of the covers and grab one of the pillows. He laughed harder when he heard it hit the door and she yelled “asshole”.
“You really do like her, don’t you.”
Taehyung’s laughter stopped when D popped up in front of him.
“What makes you say that?” he asked.
“Because everyone else can see it.”
“It doesn’t matter how I feel about her. She only sees me as a friend, nothing more.”
“I’ve known Mae almost her whole life and I can promise you she doesn’t.”
“D, we just met so I’m going to say this as nicely as possible. You’re full of shit.”
D laughed at his words before turning to walk away. “The only shit I’m full of is the truth. I put some extra blankets and pillows on the couch for you. Goodnight.” She said before going up the stairs.

Tonight was the night, you were finally going to see your boys back on the stage and you couldn’t be more hyped. The six hour car ride to Los Angeles had your butt sore, but the moment you parked at the venue and stepped out onto the same exact asphalt the boys would as well once they got off their tour bus, did you feel rejuvenated.
Staring at the enlarged venue made you feel small, yet you’ve never felt more big. You’ve waited months for this moment, ever since you bought the pre-sale tickets in advance. You had your hottest outfit on, your BTS bomb in hand, as well as the sign you made stuffed underneath your arm. Your BTS styled fanny pack was secured around your waist that carried the essentials – your ticket, your keys, your wallet, your phone.
You were ready.
All that was missing was one thing.
Where were the people? The other cars? The long lines of ARMY that you anticipated chatting with to share your enthusiasm on all that is BTS related to pass the waiting time?
A lone janitor could be seen not too far away from the archway of the entrance into the venue, wet mop in hand as he furiously scrubbed at a questionable stain on the otherwise nearly spotless concrete floor. His head looked up as he heard your footsteps close in on him, one brow raising in surprise at your appearance.
“What are you doing here? Can I help you?” His voice was stern, but not rude.
“Is this the venue for the BTS concert?”
He shifted to leaning against the length of the mop, his head tilting in confusion.
“Yes?”
His demeanor had you suspicious, but you tried not to let it get to you. Instead, you kept your friendly smile on and asked him another question.
“Good. Perfect. But where is everybody else?”
A sigh escaped his lips, and he chuckled to himself as he shook his head side to side.
What was so funny?
“Ma’am, the concert isn’t until tomorrow. You arrived a day early.”
Your eyes widened in disbelief, mouth falling open in shock as you took a step back at the sudden realization. Letting the fan sign fall surreptitiously to the floor, you dug into your fanny pack until you found your ticket.
You held it up with shaking hands and read the date and time that you were so sure you had right about it being today.
Apparently, you were wrong.
The janitor was correct, the concert wasn’t today—
—It was tomorrow.
But, wait. What was that?
Picking up your fansign, you stepped around the janitor to get a better view of the stage where you’re from. You were pretty far, but you swore that you saw some kind of movement on stage. Squinting your eyes in hopes of it actually doing something, you let out a gasp as you do see someone. Or rather, seven someones.
No. Fucking. Way.
The intro for ‘Yet to Come’ began to play, and not too long after did a voice of a literal angel blare through the speakers and reverberate throughout your entire body in pleasant waves.
Jeon – motherfucking – Jungkook in the flesh.
A wide smile split across your face, eyes beginning to get watery, yet you pushed the tears down in favor of the determination that bubbled within you begging to be let out.
In a split second, your rebellious side burst through the surface and shoved the goody two shoes in you out of the way. Before you knew it, your sneakers were pounding against the floor as the janitor shouted words of warning at your fleeing back.
It was time to make some bad decisions.

If life was long, death felt longer. It had been. . . God, Jungkook couldn’t recall how long ago it had been since his accident. Days? Weeks? Months? However long it had been, he didn’t like being dead. He knew he was dead too, which was a bit weird finding out. All he remembered was exploring the old abandoned psychiatric hospital a few miles south of town, rumored to be haunted. He was there on a dare. He knew he shouldn’t have been there, but Jungkook was never one to back down from a challenge. All he had to do was grab something and get out. He couldn’t even remember exactly what, but he knew he had it in his hand when he died. Falling through the floor.
The reason the building was abandoned was for a multitude of reasons: hospital shut down due to lack of funds, the supposed ghosts (not supposed anymore, as Jungkook was now one of them), and the building not being structurally sound. He thought those last bits were just made up to keep kids away. But hindsight is 20/20, especially when you’re dead.
At first, Jungkook couldn’t handle it, the whole being dead thing. He screamed, threw things, yelled at anyone he could see walking past through the window. But quickly, he realized that it was no use. No one heard him and all he was doing was wasting energy.
As time went on, Jungkook tried to make peace with his death. A bit difficult considering he was stuck in an abandoned hospital for the rest of eternity, but it was the thought that counts.
But there was one problem Jungkook grew to realize that he hated more than being dead. And that was ghost hunters. Every few weeks or so (usually in the summer or fall), teams of teenagers with ouija boards or grown adults with all sorts of gear would break into his final resting place and annoy the absolute shit out of him.
At first he thought it was funny, scaring the teenagers into believing he was a demon or using that very loud and annoying spirit box to say stuff like “apple-tater” and “spaghetti”. But after so many “who are you”s and “let your presence be known”s, he wished for nothing more than to be alive only to smack the shit out of these so-called ghost hunters.
Tonight was just like any other, a small group of young adults with backpacks and cameras came strolling in like they owned the place, ready to “capture evidence”. Jungkook resisted the urge to roll his eyes as the leader of the group, who seemed to be you, gave orders for where all the tech should be placed.
“Alright, Jimin, set up the laser grid in the south-west hallway. Hoseok, you do a sweep with an EVP in the west wing. Tae and I will take the REM pod up to the 2nd floor. Try and do a spirit box session and remember to keep your cameras on at all times,” you instructed, looking at each of the other guys.
“You got it.” They all sounded off as they went off in their separate ways. After watching them split up, Jungkook decided to follow after you and Taehyung, who seemed to be clinging to your side, you two seemed like he would get the most fun out of this encounter. “Tae, I love you, but you’re slowing me down.”
“You’re heading towards the spot where a guy literally died falling through the floor! You need to be careful!” The taller man hissed back at you.
Now that caught Jungkook’s attention.
You rolled your eyes at your friend. “That’s the third and fourth floor. We’re going to where he fell to.”
“You mean where he died!”
“Taehyung, we are in a psychiatric hospital. People have probably died in every room of this building. Now shut up, we’re almost there.”
You were right, Jungkook thought. It wasn’t a hard spot to miss, there was a hole in the ceiling where he fell through and another hole above that. He went through two stories, shattering all the bones in his body. . . He still felt the sickening crack of each one if he thought about it.
Jungkook watched curiously as you handed Taehyung a camera, who immediately started filming as you pulled out a device from your bag. It was an interesting circular thing, with dozens of colorful bulbs on the top. You set it down right below where he fell through, on the spot he died.
“Okay. Mysterious Teenager Spirit, this is a REM pod, the closer you get to it, it’ll light up. Can you step closer to it if you understand?” You spoke out into the air, looking about the empty room. Jungkook stood still, not sure if he should give you any satisfaction. “Here, I’ll show you.” You stepped forward, holding your hand above it, and the lights started going off. “Easy. Can you do that?”
Unsure how long he would be able to take it, Jungkook complied. He stepped closer to the device, the light bulbs pulsing.
“Woah!” You and your friend called out in shock.
“Okay! Uh, oh shit, spirit box. Hang on.” You dug around in your pocket, pulling out another device he was all too familiar with. The ever present static echoed against the walls. “My name is Y/N and this is my friend Taehyung. Can you say our names back to us?” Jungkook didn’t say anything. “Can you tell us your name?”
“Why should I tell you?” He said.
“Why,” was all the machine picked up.
“Oh shit! This is. . . this is awesome, okay. Tae, you’re getting this right?” You looked to your friend, who looked like he was about ready to crap his pants.
“Y-yeah.”
“Okay, keep rolling.” You turned back to the spirit box. “Because wouldn’t it be nice for people to know?”
“Eat shit and die.”
“Eat shit. . . Die.”
You blinked down at the spirit box, a look of disbelief written over your face.
“Did. . . did the ghost tell you to eat shit?” Taehyung asked.
“I- uh, yeah. . . .Okay. Didn’t expect that.,” you muttered. “Can you tell us how you died?”
“I fell through the fucking floor! You know this already,” Jungkook said as he crossed his arms, he hated these dumbass questions.
“I fell. . . you know this. . .”
Both you and Taehyung are completely silent now. “How. . . how did you know we know?”
“You were literally talking about it,” he scoffed.
“. . .literally talking about it. . .” The spirit box repeated.
“Okay, so you are the teenager that died here then? You fell through the floor, you were here on a dare. What were you dared to get?”
“Y/N, we got enough evidence, I don’t wanna anger it any-”
“Shhh!”
You both were silent, giving Jungkook time to respond but he didn’t know what to say. He couldn’t remember.
“You went up to the fourth floor. Do you remember what’s on the fourth floor?” You asked.
Jungkook racked his brain for it, he didn’t go up there too often in his afterlife. But he recalled something. . . something about a tool from the head doctor’s office.
“Head doctor. . .” The spirit box answered after he responded.
“That’s right. The head doctor’s office is up there. And you grabbed something from that office. Do you remember what it was?”
Jungkook furrowed his brows together, trying to remember what. The more he thought, the angrier he got. He didn’t even notice the two of you beginning to shiver in your thick coats.
A beeping came from Taehyung’s pocket. “Y/N, the temperature’s dropping. . .” He said as he looked at the beeping device.
“I don’t remember,” Jungkook gritted out.
“Don’t remember.”
“You can! Just think, what’s in a doctor’s office usually?”
Frustrated, he let out a scream, causing all the equipment you had out to blitz.
“Shut it off! Y/N, let’s go!” Taehyung shouted at you, ready to bolt out the door back to the others.
“Okay, okay!” You shouted back as you turned off the spirit box, silence finally filling the room once again. Jungkook didn’t know how, but he could swear you were looking right at him. “It was a journal. You died grabbing his journal.”

☆ ⁄⁄ ★
The night of the party came quickly. October 13th, arguably one of the most important days of the year, had arrived, and it felt as if a royal event was to take place.
There was an electric buzz in the air that was tangible the moment you set foot on campus, as everyone seemed to have a particular pep in their step. Those who were fortunate enough to come face-to-face with the man of the day, Park Jimin, seemed to be more excited about his birthday than he was himself. Almost every other person had a gift for Jimin. Whether it was a gift bag or an envelope with a card inside, they ensured to shower him with presents throughout the day.
He was overwhelmed by all of the expensive and showy gifts a few classmates attempted to give him. Hyoyeon from his Perspectives class bought him the newest Keurig, the one that brewed lattes and cappuccinos, so he knew it was expensive. Suri from his dance class gifted him a watchband made of patent leather, which the price had the specific amount scribbled out for obvious reasons.
And as the day went on, Jimin’s arms filled.
Between his last class of the day and dance practice, Jimin had thirty-five minutes to make his way home, shower, change, and return to campus for practice. Today, his trek was slightly longer, as he paused a few times to collect his bearings and reassure himself he wasn't leaving behind any gifts he had received throughout the day.
Fifteen minutes later, he made it into the apartment safely, yet out of breath. On the couch, deeply enthralled with whatever cartoon was on the television, sat Jungkook, oblivious and aloof to the struggles his roommate had just endured.
“Kook-ah, be a saint and help,” Jimin slid off his shoes and backpack as he spoke. “Please.”
At the sound of Jimin’s voice, Jungkook turned and smiled, rising from his spot to greet and obey Jimin’s plea. “Jimin-ssi, happy birthday!”
Burnt out and tired, Jimin paid no mind to the lack of honorifics as Jungkook teased him, shedding a different article of clothing with each step toward his room. A pair of sweatpants and a hoodie later, Jimin was back the way he came and happy to see the clutter that once inhabited the area in front of the door was gone as he had asked.
A rustling could be heard from the living room, signaling that Jungkook was probably helping himself to the many gifts Jimin had. A part of him wanted to scold Jungkook, give him some half-assed lecture about how it was rude to open other people's birthday presents, but it was Jungkook. Jimin knew Jungkook would never open anyone else's gifts since he didn't do it to Namjoon at their shared party a few weeks earlier. Jungkook had known Jimin for years; they practically shared all property.
(Save for Yebin, Jimin was more than happy to let Jungkook have her to himself for a slew of reasons--the more prominent one being that Yebin was like a daughter to Jimin, someone he protected with his life, so there was no romantic attraction there at all.)
While Jungkook sifted through the items, tiny noises of interest and gasps of surprise left his mouth every few seconds. Jimin grabbed his prepacked dance bag and his set of keys before he yelled over his shoulder, "Kook-ah, I'm going!"
Jimin slipped on his shoes, waiting for a response from Jungkook, and just as he pulled open the door and stepped outside, Jungkook's voice could be heard gasping, "You got a Keurig?!"
Tumblr media
Dance practice was the one place Jimin felt like everyone treated each other as equals. Despite him and Hoseok sharing the co-captain title and having more authority over dance routines, everyone was friendly enough that Jimin considered everyone his acquaintance. For a few select team members, Jimin called them his friends, people he hung out with outside of dance practice just for leisure fun.
Lee Luda seemed to float somewhere between those two classifications. She was more than an acquaintance—Luda would speak to Jimin whenever she saw him outside dance practice, no matter where, when, or how busy she seemed. But those were the only times they would speak, in brief spurts over some time that Jimin would not call frequent enough to call her a friend but also not scarce to where he could leave her as an acquaintance.
It was his first year in university when Jimin had first seen Luda. She looked so small amongst the immense sea of people that wished to try out for the dance team that year. Anyone from any year level could try out for the dance team, but there was always a naivete and innocence to the freshman that they were easy to pick out. Jimin was one of those, an auditionee that looked timid and nervous but kept to themselves out of the instinct of survival: every man for themselves.
It wasn't until after tryouts finished and the names of who made the team were posted that Jimin had spoken to Luda. Brief congratulations were exchanged between the two, something that nearly gave Jimin a heart attack to do, and he planned to leave it at that. Until Luda began gushing, with extravagant gestures with her hands and the way her eyes sparkled while she talked about Jimin's dancing and how easy it was to get lost in how he moved.
Tiny, timid Jimin had a hard time receiving compliments for anything. Nonetheless, compliments on his dancing. And even less than that, compliments from a pretty girl who was also very talented in dancing.
She had continued on and on for a solid five minutes, only noticing that she had been rambling once Jimin’s round, brown eyes never moved from her face. She blushed a furious red, her cheeks aglow as she muttered an apology, a second congratulations, and hurried away.
The crush Jimin had on Luda was inevitable. His stare always lingered in her direction; something about how she carried herself left an aura that radiated positivity in waves. Sooner than later, the awkwardness from their initial interaction faded, and there was a tenderness to how Luda would speak to Jimin. Even before he became co-captain of the dance team, her words were always soft-spoken and comforting to him.
This was why, as practice ended that day, everyone was exhausted but preening with excitement about Jimin's party later; Jimin stayed back a few minutes—as requested by Luda. Never had she asked to speak to him in private before, but most subtly during practice, Luda had pulled him aside and asked for him to patiently wait for her once everyone left.
She could ask him to murder for her, and Jimin would've foolishly complied. So as Hoseok begrudgingly left without Jimin, after all his complaints and worries, Jimin was left alone in the dance studio. He stood idly in front of the mirrors, touching up his hair and ensuring he didn't look like practice had wiped too much out of him.
He was freshly showered, doing so in the locker rooms adjacent to the studio they had used that day. Seven minutes passed, and there was no sign of Luda anywhere. Jimin tried to take note of which direction she had gone in after practice, maybe the locker rooms or out into the central area of the Arts Building. However, his plan fell flat once multiple people rushed up to him with wishes for his birthday. Once that group of people had dispersed, Jimin decided to abandon the plan and patiently wait.
The seven minutes turned to ten, then twelve, and for a smidge of a second, Jimin thought he had been stood up by Luda. But before those thoughts could fester, the door to the dance room clicked open, and a loud squeaky noise filled the room.
A multitude of balloons blocked the doorway, tiny grunts and sounds of struggle beneath them as they were squeezed through the door by a smiling Luda who struck a pose and smiled giddily at Jimin.
"Happy Birthday, Jimin-ah!" She shouted, a breath of air leaving her as she hurried over to Jimin and shoved the balloons into his hands before she was back out the door in a flash.
Moments later, she's back with a massive poster board, a cardboard box, and a perfectly wrapped present complete with a bow, cluttered in her hands as she made her way to him. With the fast-paced beating of his heart and the sheer amazement at Luda and her antics, Jimin found himself frozen in astonishment.
He wanted to take a moment to thank Luda and applaud her for even giving him a present in the first place, but Luda left no room for Jimin to talk. Because in less than a millisecond, she had snatched the balloons from his grasp, letting them float freely within the space. She held the poster board in front of her face as she shook it back and forth animatedly.
"I recruited, and by recruited, I mean forced, everyone on the team to print out their pictures with you for a collage," Luda said from behind the poster. "Hobi had a lot, so I had to limit him to three pictures to make room for everyone else's-"
The poster board was much longer than Luda's wingspan as she struggled to hold it up. Still, Jimin's eyes raked over the photos with intense nostalgia as tons of pictures from the last year and a half were splayed in front of him. There were many pictures of Jimin and Soojin after they had placed first with their duet performance at last year's regionals. They were clad in their costumes with a shit ton of makeup, but the smiles on their faces were contagious as present-day Jimin found himself smiling too.
Two pictures of Taemin and Jimin were right below the images with Soojin, sandwiched between pictures with Seulgi and Soonyoung. Jimin's eyes continued moving as he came about the outermost edges to see pictures of him, Minhyuk, and Momo. A slew of images with Hoseok, mainly taken outside of dance practice, sat at the bottom, with giant smiles on their faces.
But in the middle, the largest of them all, was a picture of Luda and Jimin. One where Luda had her arms wrapped around Jimin's neck, his arms around her waist, and their cheeks smushed together as they cheesed at the camera in a similarly energetic manner. Jimin could recall that moment as if it happened yesterday, the very moment when Luda had made the dance team for the second year in a row, and Jimin had just been announced to have been voted co-dance captain with Hoseok.
Spirits had been high that day, and with the ease of a well-oiled machine, Jimin had wrapped his arms around Luda and requested their picture to be taken. He had expected Luda to push him off or freeze for a moment, but the exact opposite had occurred. Her arms quickly snaked around Jimin's neck, and she rose to her tiptoes and pressed her cheeks to his. It took all of a second to take the picture. Still, Jimin had spent most of his night later that evening staring at the utter perfection of that picture.
Once Jimin had taken in the collage of photos, he reached forward to grab the poster board from Luda's hands with little to no objection from her. He opened his mouth to express his gratitude, but before he could mutter a sound, Luda shoved the nicely wrapped box into his hands and tossed the poster board to the floor.
The poster fluttered pathetically to the ground as Luda gestured to the box with excitement. "Open it!"
Not needing any more convincing, Jimin gracefully took to his knees to set the box on the floor as he proceeded to tear the paper from the outside and peek to see the contents within. Luda had followed him down to the floor, almost as eager to look into the box as if she hadn’t been the one to place the items in the box herself hours prior.
The first thing Jimin came across was a small journal. It was no larger than his hand, which meant it was pretty small in size and perfect to stick inside his pocket. The book's cover had 'OPEN ME' scribbled in Sharpie, to which Jimin obliged and turned to the first page.
This is a LUDA ANYWHERE-ANYTIME coupon, redeemable for ONE TIME ONLY. Use wisely, Jiminssi, for your Luda coupon has an expiration date of 12/31/2099!
Jimin laughed at the sight, his fingers instinctively flipping through the rest of the pages to find every single one with the same script on them. A coupon for Luda, anytime, anywhere, no questions asked, but only redeemable once for each page. There were easily enough coupons to last Jimin a year and a half if he used them weekly and responsibly. But knowing himself and his lack of control when it came to Lee Luda, the coupons would maybe last him a month. (Two if he tried exceptionally hard to ration them).
“Luda, these,” Jimin paused to laugh as he looked up and caught Luda’s eyes watching him intensely. “They are every-”
“Wait, wait,” Luda interrupted. Carefully, she took the small notebook from Jimin’s hands and set it to the side. “We haven’t even gotten to the best parts. Keep going.”
The next item that caught Jimin's eye was a navy-blue porcelain jar. A bow was securing the top of the pot with a note hanging from it. Flipping the small piece of paper, Jimin read:
Happy Birthday, Jiminssi! Namie and I wanted to get you something special to show our appreciation. We did some deep diving and decided to create a custom tea for you!
Namie's aunt in Japan has a tea shop, and she helped us create a tea that reminded us of you in flavor and scent. It's a blend of jasmine and peach teas with a few more additives that we swore not to share for the sake of it being unique to you and Namie's aunt's shop in Japan.
Hope you enjoy it! If you ever make it to Japan one day, Namie's aunt wants you to visit her shop. She thinks you're adorable :))
With a steady hand, Jimin untied the bow, unscrewed the top, and took a whiff. The Jasmine scent was strong, but there were undertones of peach and a smidge of vanilla that had Jimin swooning from the comfort it gave his body. Astonishment overcame him at the intensity of all the gifts; first the board, then the coupons, and now a custom tea that Luda and Namie had gotten from Japan.
Jimin softly placed the jar onto the floor as he grabbed the last item in the box: a long, sleek black box that had For Jimin in gold lettering on the top. Jimin opened the box without hesitation, and from the pure shock that electrified his body, he dropped the box.
The loud slam startled Luda, who laughed and picked up the contents before she huffed out a breath, "Don't drop these now, Jiminssi. These were the most expensive out of everything."
“Luda, I can’t take those,” Jimin quietly spoke. “I refuse.”
As if the words Jimin had said meant nothing to her, Luda placed the open box in front of Jimin again. "I reject your refusal. Now put them on."
In front of him, glimmering from the studio lights in the dance room, taunting Jimin with the expensive nature of the gift, sat two rings. Both were made with sterling silver, and both were rings Jimin had once saved in his gallery as a future gift for himself once he felt like he was responsible enough for a purchase that large.
Conflicting emotions were rushing through his body at that moment. Anxiety from how overwhelmed he was at the entire gift-giving ordeal Luda had set up for him. Slight fear at how Luda had even known Jimin had been thinking about purchasing the ring set for himself in the future. And lastly, as he slid the rings onto his thumb and middle finger, was how Luda knew the ring size perfectly to the point where they were snug and felt at home on his stubby little fingers.
Jimin took a few moments to admire the jewelry on his fingers in silence as he came to terms with the fact that the girl of his dreams had made the purchase of his dreams and gifted them to him for his birthday. As if it was just another simple thing they did. Luda had just changed Jimin's life forever, and she probably had no idea.
"Do you like them?" Luda had the gall to look nervous as she spoke, her eyes dancing across all of the gifts she had just bombarded Jimin with in the last fifteen minutes. "I put a lot of thought into most of these, and I just want you to like them."
And to think, Jimin was convinced Luda would stand him up.
"Luda, these are perfect gifts that I'm not even sure I deserve," Jimin said with finality. "You went above and beyond for me, and I really appreciate it all."
"Oh, I'm so glad," Jimin felt himself melt at the smile Luda sent his way. "I had to practically hound the entire dance team for their photos of you, and some of them were being selfish, which threw off my entire plan, but I got them in the end."
“I’m glad our picture was the largest.”
Luda nodded. "Yeah, Hobi-Oppa almost strangled me because his pictures with you weren't in the middle, but I told him this was my project and that he had to deal with it.”
“I love the dedication.”
“Thanks,” she responded. “It’s one of my best qualities.”
“But how’d you get the ring sizes?” Jimin held his hand that adorned the rings up to Luda as he still felt himself stare in awe. “They’re perfect.”
"I got Jungkookie to take a thumb ring and middle finger ring from you. I also had him take measurements to be sure," Luda shrugged as she packed the jar of tea, the now empty box that once held the rings, and the coupon book into the box they came from. "I'd be agitated if I paid all that money, and they didn't fit you."
"But-" Jimin lost his voice as he began to think of the sheer effort she had to put into everything to get such perfect presents for his birthday.
"And I know how much of a ring guy you are, so I just found something that I would wear and thought about it that way," She continued to explain. "Honestly, now I understand why some people love gift giving because of the look on your face the entire time, Jiminssi-"
Luda paused her movements to look Jimin straight in his eyes, almost as if she wanted him to know she meant every word.
"-I like seeing you happy. It gave me this sort of…," Luda trailed off as she sought the proper word to describe her feelings.
“Tingle,” Jimin answered. “It felt like a tingle.”
A timid smile appeared on Luda’s face. “Yeah, a tingle.”
Jimin had an inkling about the tingle Luda felt. It was one that he experienced each time he had caught himself dreaming up scenarios about her in his head, scenarios that shocked his spine and left his lower back sizzling with anticipation and nerves. It was uncomfortable at first, but now it was almost masochistically satisfying when it happened.
Amicable silence accompanied the two of them as they set about cleaning up any evidence that they had spent time in the practice room after the allotted time had ended. Luda offered to take the balloons back to her place once Jimin voiced he had no legitimate use for them back at his own. Luda had been sure Namie and Geummi would find some odd service for them later as they continued to pack up and walk side by side as they exited the Arts Building.
Jimin began to set off to the left as Luda set off to the right, both stopping once they realized this was where they would split ways.
"I'll see you later tonight, Luda?" Jimin asked, surely, mostly positive Luda would be at his party.
“Of course, Jiminssi,” Luda replied as she stepped up to him, rose to her tiptoes, and pressed a soft kiss to his cheek. “Save me a dance.”
As Luda turned to take her leave, Jimin called out, “How about two?”
"Make it three, and we have a deal!"
Yeah, Jimin thought to himself, there was no way he was getting over Lee Luda anytime soon.

November 4th, 10am
There’s this girl in my antidotes class - Y/N - that I swear to Merlin must have done this fucking class at least twice, because she has the answer to every question on the tip of her tongue. No one even gets the chance to speak before her hand is up in the air waiting to show just how much smarter than all of us she is. And when she gets it right, she gives the professor the brightest, most annoying smile, like he just handed her one million galleons or something.
I mean, this is an antidotes class, not the Wizard Nobel Prize. She needs to calm down.
Ugh, anyway. Back to what I was saying: There’s this girl in my antidotes class - Y/N - and I kind of want her to have my babies.
November 4th, 12pm
“Dude, you’re drooling” Taehyung says to me in the cafeteria later, when we’re sitting down for lunch “You gotta do something about this Y/N crush, it’s driving all of us insane”
“Yeah, man” Jimin agrees, but that’s just because he agrees with everything Taehyung says and that’s why they had matching puffskein tattoos on their asses “Either ask her out or let us Obliviate you so you can move on”
See, this is all Taehyung and Jimin’s fault really. Before them, Y/N was really just the girl that I copied the answers off of in Advanced Herbology who I had only ever seen the back of her head. But then they started talking to her- like we even needed a fourth friend! -and before I knew it, she started casually greeting us when she walked into class and I finally got to see her face and BAM! I have chosen our children’s name and Hogwarts Houses (one Gryffindor boy and a Slytherin girl, because Y/N was a Slytherin and she would probably fight me if I tried to get both our kids in Gryffindor and, let’s be honest here, she would win).
Now, I’m not necessarily the most romantic wizard in the world. I don’t think I even qualify in the top five thousand. But, back in my school days, Professor Trelawney had told me I would eventually find the love of my life and  stay with her for the rest of my days. Granted, I was pretty sure that woman was just a crackhead posing as a witch to buy drugs and she also told me I would get electrocuted and die in a month, but still. She got 1 out of 2 and six years later I am in love and terrified of microwaves.
“I’m gonna ask her out” I defend myself from my nosy friends “I’m just waiting for the right time.”
The right time would be whenever I could get my hands in some Liquid Luck, but due to that being a highly complicated potion and that my last few attempts of brewing it ended in bleached brows and violent diarrhea, that specific day was looking further and further away.
November 4th, 12:30
One of the things I love the most about Y/N was how kind she was. Was she an annoying know-it-all? Absolutely. Did she also make sure to share her knowledge with the entire class and help everyone out? She sure did.
I still remember when I was failing my Demons and Beasts class and she sat with me for hours and carefully went over the entire subject of the semester with a gentle tone and the patience of a saint.
Sure, I did still fail the test and had to redo it, but that was not her fault. She was not to be blamed for my inability to listen to her go on about wraiths when her perfume was all over me and her shirt was cut just low enough that I could look down her blouse and catch just the slightest peeks of her bra that would haunt me and cause me to almost fail 2 other classes.
I wished I could gather the courage to tell her that. Not the bra part, the part about her kindness.
November 4th, 1pm
I take it fucking back. How can she just be nice to everyone?
Like that dude Namjoon. I know he doesn’t need help with his paper on counter-curses because I know he used to tutor that class. He’s just pretending to suck so she would help him and as a person who actually sucked I find that very offensive to my culture.
He’s sitting next to her all the way across the cafeteria and even I, who probably burned off my retinas with my attempt to brew Felix Felices in my guest bathroom, could tell that he was staring down her blouse. Was he not aware of the unspoken rule that whatever was hiding down there was only for my eyes? Had I not made myself clear enough by… I don’t know, sending positive energies to the universe? Did Trelawney not write our love in the stars?
We are fated, Kim. Meant to be. The only thing you are meant to be is big and clumsy and probably like a model, because you are real jacked and I respect that.
Whatever. I don’t care. I’m sure Y/N will shake him off soon. Maybe slap him. I don’t really have to step in. She can take care of herself.
November 4th, 1:05pm
I jinxed him.
November 4th, 1:07pm
Namjoon is being taken to the hospital wing. That will teach him a lesson.
 November 4th, 1:10pm
Y/N is going with him. She’s holding his hand.
Bugger.
November 4th, 1:11pm
He winked at me on his way out. The absolute disrespect, the gall of this dude.
November 4th, 1:12pm
I jinxed him again. Got caught and now I have to help train the freshmen in hand in hand combat.
Bugger it all to hell.

Love Is Not Over
✏️Taehyung x OFC ✏️Friends to Lover AU 🛑 Rated 18+ 📖WC: 2153 ⚠️Mentally abusive and controlling ex, stalking, mention of anxiety cheating, COVID, drinking, drunk hookup, masturbation, oral, accidental marriage, accidental pregnancy⚠️
Chapter 6
“According to Twitter, the guys are leaving for the States, at the same time we’re heading back.” D said, looking at her phone.
“That would explain why I haven’t heard much from Jimin,” Mae said, adjusting herself in the seat.
The women were on their way back from a hike to one of the volcanoes. They’d been on the island for almost a week now and spent the majority of the time away from the house and out exploring. Jeju was a beautiful island with so much to see and do. They’d gone hiking, visited The Haenyeo women, and even explored some lava tubes. Pretty much every tourist attraction they could. Next week they planned to take things easier. Staying closer to town and the house.
“Here I thought you just snuck away to talk to him so that I wouldn’t steal your phone.” Veronica laughed from the front seat.
“Nope, he said he was busy, and when he did text it was super late. Does it say what they’re doing?” Mae leaned over to look at D’s phone.
“An award show and preparing for their concert next month.” D looked at Mae. “Don’t they tell you these things?”
“Not unless I ask. If they want me to know something they’ll tell me. I usually find out at the same time everyone else does.”
“And that doesn’t bother you?”
“No, I knew they had a show and concert coming up. But that’s next month. I wonder if they are doing something else and that’s why they are leaving earlier.” Mae replied.
The women stopped at a restaurant to eat and then went to their final stop, LoveLand, before heading back to the house. Although Mae was a little apprehensive about it, she was excited to see what the “amusement park for adults” had.
Just as they were getting ready to leave the park, Mae’s phone went off.
“How’s my favorite person in Seoul?” Mae asked.
“Bored. How’s Jeju? Did you guys do anything interesting today?” a curious Jimin asked from the other end of the phone.
“We went for a hike to one of the volcanoes. We’re just finishing up at LoveLand right now before we head back.”
“You went to the sex park?” Jimin shouted, causing Mae to hold the phone from her ear.
“Jesus, I heard him clear over here.” Kimberleigh laughed.
“Yes,” Mae said, putting the phone back to her ear.
“I don’t believe you.” Mae’s face scrunched in confusion at Taehyung's voice.
“Jimin, do you have me on speaker phone?”
“Yes, I figured I’d give you a call while we were eating.”
“How many people are there?” Mae asked.
“Just me, Tae, and Jungkook.”
“Hi, Mae.” Jungkook's amused voice came through the phone.
“Hello, JK.”
“Mae, are you really at LoveLand?”
“Yes we are. Hang on a second and I’ll put you on video.” Mae pulled the phone away from her ear and pressed the video chat option. She laughed when Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook's faces showed up on screen. Judging by the angle, Jimin obviously had his phone laying on the table.
“Hi, Veronica.” Jimin said when Mae flipped the camera around just as Veronica stopped to look at one of the statues.
“Hey, Jimin.” She said with a flirty tone and waved.
The women continued the walk through the park with the three men on the phone. The guys ate their food while the women passed around the phone and told them about each thing they stopped at.
“Too bad you guys are so busy getting ready to leave.” Veronica said as they piled back into their vehicle. “We were hoping that we’d get to at least meet you in person. I mean, you have been taking care of Mae for three years.”
“You just want Jimin here so you can flirt with him in person.” D said, causing everyone to laugh.
“Do you blame me? Look at him.”  Veronica lifted up the phone for her to see it better in the back seat.
“Veronica is making Jimin blush.” Jungkook giggled.
“Speaking of good looks.” D shifted in the seat so that she was closer to the phone. “Do any of you happen to know which one of you Mae’s been having sex dreams about?”
“That’s enough of that!” Mae yanked D back in her seat and took the phone away from Veronica. “We’ll talk to you guys later. Bye!”
“Wait, you’ve dreamt about sex with one of us?” an amused Jimin asked quickly.
“Nope, not having this conversation with you. Bye!” Flustered Mae hung up the phone before anyone could say anything else.
Mae sent death glares to her friends who were laughing as she put her phone away. She couldn’t be mad at them, she would have done the same thing if roles were reversed. But she could give them the cold shoulder while she calmed down.
┗━•❃°•°❀°•°❃•━┛
The women spent the remainder of the afternoon relaxing around the house. But by early evening, the four of them started to go stir crazy and decided to get a head start on some of the photo shoots they had planned since it was a nice evening.
“You’ve got your wish, Veronica.” Mae said, gently tossing her phone onto the kitchen island.
Veronica looked up from the camera and asked, “Which wish is that, Giant? I have a lot of wishes.”
“Jimin will be here tomorrow so that you guys can meet him.”
“He’s what?” Veronica yelled, causing D and Kimberleigh to run from the other room where they were getting the outfits ready.
“What the hell is happening? Is everything ok?” A frightened Kimberliegh asked.
“No, everything is not ok!”
Mae watched in amusement as Veronica started to panic. “Park Jimin is coming here! Park Jimin in the flesh in front of me! How could you do this to me?” she asked, looking at a laughing Mae.
“It’s what you wanted! What do you mean by ‘How could I do this to you?’ it’s not like he’s already outside the front door.”
“She does have a point, Ronnie.” D added before going back to the other room.
“Don’t you take her side!” Veronica yelled after her.
“We aren’t taking anyone's side, Ronnie. You wanted him here and now he’s coming. At least they gave you a warning.” Kimberleigh shrugged. “Now why don't you two go get your first outfit on.” She picked up the camera that was in front of Veronica.
“Get your ass back here, Giant!”
Mae ran through the house laughing while Veronica chased after her.
Mae looked at herself in the mirror one last time before going back outside. She’d gained some weight since the last photoshoot they did together. But it was a good weight, she looked a lot healthier than she did while she was with Tyler. He was very particular about how the two of them looked; she only ate the things he deemed healthy.
“Holy tits and ass.” Kimberleigh said when Mae stepped out onto the patio.
“I think this bikini might be a little too small.” She mumbled adjusting the top trying to cover herself as much as she could.
“Nonsense.”
“You don’t think it shows too much?”
“It’s a bikini, Mae. It’s supposed to show what you have.” D said, moving one of the lounge chairs.
“How do you feel about it? Because we all think you look sexy as hell.” Veronica stood beside her and assessed the outfit, “If you aren’t comfortable we can skip it or you can put the cover up on. It’s see-through so it won't hide everything.”
“I feel amazing. It just feels a little strange having so little on in public. I haven’t worn a bikini outside since I left the States.” Mae admitted.
“Here, put this on for now.” Kimberleigh said, handing her the cover up. “You can always take it off.”
Mae put on the light fabric and looked at herself in the full length mirror they’d taken from one of the bedrooms and placed on the patio.  Veronica was right, the black knitted clothing didn’t cover everything, the front was open and she could still see the purple bikini through the back, but it covered enough until she was comfortable.
“Alright, where do you want me?”
“Over here next to the pool.” D pointed at the lounge chair she’d moved.
“DJ, drop that beat!” Veronica picked up the camera and yelled to Kimberleigh.
“BTS? Really?” Mae asked with a laugh.
“They have good songs.” Kimberleigh shrugged and mouthed the lyrics ‘Am I Wrong’.
The next hour and a half was filled with chaos as the women sang, danced, and took pictures. It was hectic and the women were having the time of their lives. It was just like old times, before Tyler.
“The food should be here in a few minutes,” Kimberleigh said, turning down the music. “I’m going to go wait out front. Mae don’t fall!” She shouted before entering the house.
“Geez, she says that like I’m clumsy or something.” Mae put her hand on D’s shoulder to steady herself while she stood on the lounge chair.
“That’s because you are.” D laughed.
“Oh that’s going to look beautiful with the color of the sunset in the sky.” Veronica stood in front of them. “I thought you were a giant before,” she laughed looking up at Mae.
“Be careful, Ant. I can squish you with my big toe.” she laughed, lifting one foot.
“Put your damn foot down, woman!” D said, grabbing a hold of Mae when she started to wobble. “I’m going to go help Kimberleigh and get our drinks. You two are going to give me a heart attack.”
“There’s a slight breeze up here. Do you think I should put the cover up back on and let it flow?”
“Is there enough to make it?” Veronica asked, handing her back the fabric she discarded not too long ago.
“Wouldn’t hurt to try.” Mae shrugged.
Veronica stepped back and waited for Mae to get situated again while she found her perfect angle. The sun was getting ready to set, causing the sky to be a mixture of pastels. The colors blended beautifully with Mae’s swimsuit. So the idea was to get her as high up as possible. Mae started out the last shoot with her back towards the ocean so that Veronica could get a few shots of her front with and without the cover up.
“Alright, let's get you turned around so that I can get some shots of your back.”
“Come help. I don’t have D and don’t want to fall in the pool.”  Mae said, waving her hand at Veronica.
“What in the world is taking them so long?” She asked, taking Mae’s extended hand and helping her turn.
“Maybe the food is taking a little longer.”
“Food’s here, ladies.” Kimberleigh said, stepping out onto the patio.
“What the hell took you so long?” Mae asked, not looking Kimberleigh’s way as she watched Veronica get the cover up from the railing.
“I’ll fuck you senseless.” Veronica said softly, frozen in place and looking towards the house behind Mae.
“You’ll do what?”
“It’s nice to finally see you too, Veronica.” Mae’s eyes widened at the sound of Jimin’s voice.
“Ronnie, tell me that isn’t Jimin. Please tell me we’ve been in the heat too long and are hallucinating.”
“If it is, I'm not complaining.”
Not taking her eyes off the man from her dreams, Veronica shoved the cover up towards Mae, causing her to lose her balance on the cushion top lounge chair. Everyone went wide-eyed with panic when they heard Mae scream as she fell back into the cool water.
“Ronnie, I’m going to kill you!” Mae yelled once she’d resurfaced.
“I am so sorry, Giant. I was so focused on the gorgeous man I completely forgot you were on the lounge chair.”
“Well your lack of focus nearly got me killed.” Mae said swimming across the pool. “Your ass is just lucky it was the deep end.”
Mae adjusted her suit that had shifted from the impact before standing up in the shallow end and walking up the three steps to exit.
“Would you like a towel?” Mae looked up in shock to find Taehyung standing in front of her. “You hit the water pretty hard, are you ok?” Mae, unable to speak, just nodded. “By the way,” he said, unfolding the towel and leaning in closer, “You look good in that suit but I prefer the forest green lace number from three years ago.” Taehyung whispered in her ear as he put the towel around her shoulders.
Mae leaned away from him when she realized he was talking about the lingerie she’d worn for their last shoot in Colorado. Taehyung smirked when her wide eyes met his. He gave her a playful wink before walking back towards the group.

**old repost from my deleted blog
Tumblr media
Hate is a strong word— at least that’s what people try and say. You meant it though, it was a word you didn’t use lightly. Especially when it came to your opinion on 99% of the male population at your school. You couldn’t stand most of them, they all just wanted one thing. Getting into your pants.
You despised hook-up culture with a passion and it didn’t help that most guys who tried talking to you were all the same. You had a special hatred for a particular individual the most though— Jeon Jungkook from your physics class. He was the most arrogant, conceited, egotistical person you’ve ever met your whole life.
Every class he would have a different girl with him wrapped around his arm, walking him to the door like he’s some kind of royalty. The way almost every girl would swoon over him just because he’s good looking was baffling to you. Yeah he may have a pretty face but does that cancel everything else out? Of course not. You’ll never understand why these women would choose to go after someone like him, you felt embarrassed for them honestly.
“Jungkook, meet me after class I’ll be waiting for you!” Some girl shouted through the door to get his attention.
He was sitting two seats from you, looking at his phone while paying no mind to the obvious screaming being directed to him. He was so full of himself it was ridiculous.
“Hey y/n, what’re you doing tonight?”
That voice startled the hell out of you. Who gave Jungkook the right to even be speaking to you right now? Looking over in his direction, you give him an empty stare.
“Why do you care?” You said harshly.
It makes no sense why he would even try talking to you, you’ve never given him any indication you liked him.
“Sheesh, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today,” he chuckles, “you should pull up to my party tonight!” You wanted to almost physically gag at the wink he just gave you.
“I’m good.” You shut him down quickly and try moving on but he doesn’t let you off that easy.
“You sure? The whole schools practically gonna be there, you don’t wanna miss out on all the fun do ya?” That annoying smirk on his face was really starting to irritate you.
“I said I’m good, I’d never show up to one of your dumb ass parties.”
“I think you got me mixed up with someone else, my parties are always lit. If you have a change of heart though, I’ll make sure to show you a real good time.”
You scoff, utterly disgusted by his last comment, just about everything he said had sexual undertones to them. His humor was weird and extremely perverted which heavily pissed you off. You couldn’t wait for this class to be over.
“We’re almost here!” Yuna exclaims in the passenger seat.
You were in the back with two of your other friends as you were headed to a party. You weren’t totally up for partying tonight but ultimately your friends were able to convince you to go. You don’t even know where the party is but maybe it’s good to get your mind off things.
“Oh, by the way who’s party is this?” You ask suddenly as Lisa pulls into a driveway.
The car got silent for a second, no one answered your question. It was a bit odd to you the way they all froze up.
“Actually… it’s Jungkook’s party…” Lisa finally spoke, her eyes kept trailing away from you.
“What the fuck? Of all places you choose to go you pick him?!” You felt so betrayed.
They really drove you all the way here just to trick you into coming and now you have no escape plan. They all begged and pleaded for you to suck it up and let loose for just one night. You finally agreed but only under the condition that you want to be far away from him as possible.
“Why do you even dislike him so much? You would think he had murdered someone or something!” Your friend asks.
“I just think he’s a pretentious asshole that doesn’t deserve all the hype he gets.”
They just shrug your opinion off and get out the car. You huff as you open the door and head to the party with the rest of them.
You instantly felt claustrophobic once you go inside. There were crowds of people everywhere. Jungkook was right, everyone at the school was practically here. Loud rap music was blaring through the speakers, red solo cups scattered the floor, people getting sloppy drunk or stoned; the perfect stereotypical house party.
You haven’t seen him yet so that was a good sign and you go up to the kitchen to get drinks with Lisa. 20 minutes pass by now and Lisa was left out of your sight. You have no idea where she could’ve run off to and now you have to search the place to find your friends.
Heading outside into the backyard, your balance was becoming unstable from the alcohol in your system. You were taking shots of Hennessy back to back and it caught up to you faster than you could blink. You sat down on one of the lawn chairs since your head was starting to feel really heavy. You felt a sudden tap behind your shoulder and hear a voice that even when you’re drunk, you can sense with disdain.
“Well, well, well if it isn’t little miss ‘i’d never show up to one of your dumb ass parties!’” Jungkook teases while coming from behind you.
“Get the hell away from me!” You lean away from him to leave you alone but he only came closer.
“This is my house so I don’t need to go anywhere, if anything I think I should kick you out for being so mean to me.” His face inched towards yours further, putting you in an uncomfortable position.
You don’t know why your body felt paralyzed though, it was probably just from all the alcohol inebriating your mind.
“You know, I never understood why you actually hate me. I never hurt you did I?” He says, slightly cocking his head to the side.
His tattooed hand landed on your knee, just planting it there while keeping strong eye contact. You couldn’t speak for some reason, it was as if an enormous lump has formed and got caught inside your throat. He looks down at the skirt you’re wearing and bites his lip, playing with his lip ring.
“Why aren’t you talking? You usually have a lot to say to me, why so quiet now sweetheart? Cat got your tongue?” He continues speaking in that condescending tone of his and you’ve had enough now.
“I fucking hate your guts Jungkook, I absolutely despise you. You’re a cocky, perverted fuckboy that needs to be humbled and finally put in your place!” You snap back at him while pushing his hand away.
“Woah girl chill out, that was a bit harsh don’t ya think? Also, I’d love for you to put me in my place any day.” Yet again, he never fails to make a sexually charged comment.
“You’re disgusting, seriously get help!” You attempt to get up from the lawn chair but he pushes you back down.
“You know, I’ve always liked my girls a little feisty. I find it hot when girls yell at me.”
Either this man has a humiliation kink or is just plain stupid— either way you don’t want to be anywhere near him but he wouldn’t let you leave.
“Please just go away Jungkook, I don’t want you in my sight anymore.”
“Really? Because if that were true then you would’ve been left already,” his hand went to stroke the side of your hair “seems like you really don’t want me to leave.”
His other hand went back to your knee again but slowly trails up to your thigh and goes under your skirt this time. You were surprised within yourself that you were even letting this happen. He leans in to your face, being just a few inches away from his lips. You became almost in a trance by those pink, pillowy lips. You don’t know what came over you but you grab his face and messily kiss him. The movement of your lips colliding and syncing together as he deepened the kiss. He sensually touches your thigh while you moan into the kiss and he squeezes your thigh tightly in response. Looking around to see all the people still here when you pull away from him; you can’t fathom you just made out with Jungkook in front of all these goddamn people. You just lost all respect for yourself.
“You know I’ve always secretly had a crush on you y/n?” Jungkook admits, “I kinda like it when girls are mean to me. Or maybe I just like it when you’re mean, I haven’t figured it out yet.”
“Let me show you how mean I can get then.” You reply, staring up at him with hungry eyes.
That cheesy grin never leaving his face as he hears you speak. The tension only grew thicker and he wasn’t about to waste another second.
“Sit on my lap.” He uses his hands to maneuver you and leans back in the chair.
You drunkenly stumble on top of him, feeling him against you. Your body heat raised through the roof but this time you were sure it wasn’t because of the liquor. You straddle his lap as you go back to hastily making out. His wandering hands kept slipping down to your ass to squeeze it and you were starting to feel dizzy from the way he was kissing you. You feel his touch under your skirt to play with you some more, not caring if anyone’s looking at this point.
“I don’t think we should be doing this.. not here at least. Too many people.” You say when pulling away from his lips.
“I really don’t give a fuck, it’s my party let them watch. Let’s put on a good show for everyone, yeah?”
You know this goes beyond against every moral you’ve had before. You’re about to do the one thing you told yourself that you’d never do.
“Sounds like a plan to me.” Agreeing to go along with his narrative.
He lets you in charge now, letting you have full control over the way you get to ride him. You push your panties to the side and he undoes his pants to free his fully hard member. You didn’t realize how much of a nice cock he has, it was well groomed and had the perfect size/width.
“You have a really pretty dick, must I say.” You still can’t believe these words are being said to Jungkook.
“Thanks baby, I can’t wait for it to be in that pretty little pussy of yours.”
He drags two of his fingers down to your core and swipes in a circular motion, smearing the wet slick as he watches your mouth open wide with pleasure. His digits sink into your cunt harshly, pushing them deeper and deeper.
“Fuck! Your fingers feel too good…” you hid your face in his shoulder as he splits you open.
Your eyes hung low and your mind was hazy. Unable to think straight, you just wanted to feel Jungkook inside of you already.
“Need to fuck you nowww!” You yell, almost sounding a bit whiny.
“So do it then cutie. Come fuck yourself on my cock.”
He withdraws his digits out of you and licks the juices off them one by one. His grin would only get wider as you lowered yourself on his cock. You were so soaking wet you sunk down on him easily while resting your hands around his shoulders to brace yourself a bit before moving. Once you regain focus you slide up and down on his shaft nice and slow; making him bite his lip, moan, and curse under his breath.
“Your pussy feels so good… so tight… fuck..” his mind was going blank as you pick up a steady pace.
You were so out of it by now that you were bouncing on his cock in a frenzy. He roughly thrusted his hips back into you while you sloppily rode him. The way he filled you up felt like you were in heaven. You open your eyes for a second, forgetting that you were at a party. Almost everyone was looking at you, some people even took out their phones to record the scene in front of them. It was probably all the alcohol you drank but you didn’t even care anymore, you continued savagely riding him. You’re moaning louder as you slam down into him harder, pulling his body closer to yours. He loudly grunts from your walls aching around him, his cock was throbbing so intensely he felt himself wanting to burst already.
People were beyond shocked to see this happening, it was a wild party but they weren’t expecting all this. You try not to pay attention to everyone and focus on Jungkook so you can make yourself cum. Then out of nowhere, he spontaneously lifts you up while you’re still on his cock. Engulfing those large hands on your ass cheeks to keep you balanced and thrusts into you deep while he’s standing up. You had your arms wrapped tightly around him, you weren’t too scared of falling since he had a strong grip on you. You were taking his cock with each harsh stroke he gave, screaming out his name over and over so the whole party could hear it.
“Fuck yes Jungkook! Keep fucking me just like that, you’re so good!!” You could feel yourself coming close and so does Jungkook. Wet strands of sticky hair cling to his face from all the work he’s putting in, his eyebrows furrowed to concentrate solely on making you cum.
“Gonna cum on this cock for me baby? I feel you getter tighter ‘round me.”
“Yess, wanna cum on your cock so bad please!”
He was hitting all the spots in you just right, the slight curve of his shaft fit so perfectly in your core. Your mouth was back to being jaw locked again, feeling the heat wave of your orgasm coming through. It hit even harder when you were drunk, you felt like you were going to fall out of his arms but he noticed you slipping and pulls you up into a firmer grasp. While shutting your eyes you feel your release take over, cursing and moaning his name repeatedly like a broken record.
“I’m ‘bout to cum ….” He pulls out of you and sets you back on the lawn chair, “look up and open wide for me.”
You open your mouth eagerly for him, he gives his cock a few pumps before releasing his white creamy load into your mouth. You swallow every drop of his cum and stick your tongue out for him to show your empty mouth. He smiles at the pretty sight of you and goes in to kiss you once again.
“This is fucking insane!” One of the random people at the party says.
You recognize the person since they’ve been watching you from the start. To say that you and Jungkook left everyone at that party speechless was an understatement.
“You know people were taking videos of us right?” Jungkook says cautiously.
“Yeah… it’s probably going to end up all over social media now, if it hasn’t already. Oh well, like I care!” You shrug nonchalantly.
Oh you’ll definitely care when you sober up.
“Let’s get outta here?” Jungkook zips his pants back up and takes his hand out for you to grab.
You hold onto him and balance your wobbly legs to stand up. You were both severely drunk but he held his liquor way better than you did. For the rest of the night, the party continued and you ended up finding your friends. They soon found out about you were doing and how you fucked Jungkook in front of everyone there, they were all completely taken aback. You went from hating his guts to him destroying yours— guess that’s one way you can end a burning hatred for someone.

“Jungkook, what are you doing?”
Toothbrush in mouth, he’s leaning heavily against the bathroom counter, forehead nearly touching the large, oval mirror that hangs above the sink.
He grabs the edges of his hair, bringing them to align center in his forehead, and looks at you through the mirror, attempting to mumble around the toothbrush in his mouth.
“Dove—it—wook—kay?”
Pushing off the door threshold you were leaning against, you shuffle your fluffy sock covered feet along the white marble flooring as you get closer to him to get a better look at what you can decipher him asking after years of dealing with his gibberish already.
Your eyes squint as you attempt to push yourself underneath his raised arms, slotting yourself against his side, staring hard at his forehead through the mirror. You shrug your shoulders.
“Looks good to me, baby.”
He hums in contemplation, but knows you wouldn’t lie to him.
“Dank you—,” he starts, and you gently tug the toothbrush out of his foamy mouth, cutting his words off.
He spits in the sink, cupping his hands underneath the streaming water of the sink faucet and slurps up some water from his hands, tilting his head back to gargle it a bit before he once again leans forward to spit it back out.
With a fresh, shiny new smile on full display he gives you a short, but loving kiss on the lips.
“Thank you, baby.”
“Anytime.” You reach your hand up to ruffle his still wet hair, him having showered after getting it cut not too long ago, ridding himself of the itchy feeling that occurs due to a fresh haircut.
“Hey!” He pouts cutely, hands coming up to swat yours away and align his hair in the way he wants it. You hip bump him with a roll of your eyes, slapping his bum as you make your way back out of your shared bathroom.
Your nails curl around the threshold as you peak your head back in for a split second to leave one last comment that has his eyes widening and you cackling, him yelling out a shrill ‘NO!’ as you sprint away from him, him chasing you throughout your shared home not a moment later to prevent your white lie from occurring.
“I’m telling Soo-Young you doubted her hair cutting abilities!”

Tumblr media
Summary: One of your favorite things to do when you were in your early 20s was stay up late where reflective conversations eventually blurred into nonsense as the sun rose alongside someone you thought you would spend the rest of your days with… Now you’re stuck in New York City for one night due to a delayed flight with that very person standing there in his leather jacket and guitar case in hand across from you at the airport gate. See, fate is a funny thing and Jeon Jungkook could always find the humor in anything.

The longest string of curses you ever muttered in your life escaped your lips as your tense eyes focused on the words CANCELED obnoxiously displayed on the monitor indicating the status of your flight, which was supposed to take you back to the comfort of your home in Seoul. This is ignoring the fact that you also had a big presentation to prepare for a client but you got pulled into this conference last minute by your boss – lucky you.
“Ma’am, I’m so sorry. Unfortunately, all flights have been temporarily suspended due to emergency maintenance as a result of the aircraft recall. The most I can offer is to book you on the next available flight scheduled…” The poor airline employee offered with an apologetic smile. You stepped back as you realized this very employee had to face the brunt of the crowd who also suffered the same fate as you.
You swallowed your anger, empathetic to this person who was merely a messenger. “Okay, when is the next flight?”
“It will be tomorrow at 10:15AM. That’s the earliest we can do, unfortunately. I can have you booked on that flight and you’ll have the details emailed to you shortly.”
Sighing, you nodded your head. “Cool, thank you… but will the airline be able to provide a place to stay since –”
You were cut off by an angry – and entitled – middle-aged woman. “Excuse me but what is the airline going to do about this? I’m supposed to be in Seoul by 10PM on the 24th. How is this airline going to ensure that? Do you know how much I paid for this?”
You were at your wits end as you watched other passengers try to come down on the woman as you walked away. At least you were in “The City that Never Sleeps” so finding something to do won’t be that difficult. You jerked your carry-on bag along as you tried to exit from the commotion of your gate however you did not get far as you were stopped by someone who stood before you amongst another fleet of passengers dealing with the same issue as your flight. You recognized that signature, worn leather jacket and stickered guitar case from miles away.
“Jungkook?”
The call of his name pulled him back into reality as it appeared as though he himself was checking if this was actually happening. Your mind started racing as you couldn’t help the shock that washed over you. So many questions flashed by as his surprised gaze met yours.
“Hey…” He cleared his throat and ran a hand through his already tousled hair. “...Having flight issues too?”
Tumblr media
Sitting at a coffee shop in the terminal across from each other, it was… awkward, you both could not deny.
Jungkook cradled his iced americano while your now empty vanilla latte cup rested there. A funny representation of both of your approaches to life. It was also a point of teasing that Jungkook previously used to his advantage during the days of shared kisses and intimate dates. Times when you and Jungkook would lie shoulder to shoulder on a bed of grass in open fields and wish upon shooting stars.
“This sucks, doesn’t it?” You tried to break the ice, seeing Jungkook’s uncharacteristic silence. Perhaps these years have changed you both.
“The flight thing or us sitting across from each other like this?” Jungkook cracked and you let out a breath of laugh.
Toying with your empty cup, you nodded at nothing in particular. “Definitely the flight thing, and regarding right now… not sure. But I can’t lie that it’s nice to see a familiar face amid this chaos.”
His shoulders slacked as if tension melted away and Jungkook sat up more confidently in his seat. “Yeah, I bet. And wait…” He paused before leaning towards you in surprise. “Are you here in NYC alone? What brings you here?”
You waved off his worry, knowing exactly what he was referring to. “I came here for a 2-day work conference so I was strictly here on business.” Funny to think that reaction was almost impulse despite the passage of time between you both.
“Have you been to New York before? Did you at least get a chance to explore the city after your conference?”
“No, and no, honestly. It took a lot out of me and the company is pinching pennies by only giving me a short window here outside of the conference. What about you, what brings you here? Is this your first time stuck here?” You rested your head on your hand that was propped up on the table.
Jungkook’s unforgettable grin made its appearance as he noticed your growing ease at the situation. “The band’s here on tour. We’re about to start our Europe leg but of course… shit had to hit the fan with the airplane scandals. And nope, this is our third time in New York. We were first here on tour a couple of years ago.”
You smiled at this. “That’s right. I’m sure you’re a seasoned professional being on the road and all with the SNAFUs that come up… Congrats though, I hear the band has really taken off. You guys deserve all the success.”
“You don’t know how much that means to me,” Jungkook started, grinning wide as ever. “No seriously, it means a lot coming from you.”
“You’re messing with me.” You frowned in jest.
“No, not at all. You were that push to get my head on straight, y’know? Even before we … ended things… you were one of the few people who genuinely believed in us. And I can’t thank you enough for that.”
Feeling your face get warm, you shook your head in a humble gesture. “I only saw and believed in the obvious. I mean look at you guys now, touring the US and now even Europe? This success was all in the making.”
“But enough about the band! How’re you? Being all professional going abroad on conferences and stuff. What are you up to?” Jungkook took a sip from his Americano where the ice had become significantly smaller.
“I’m a product manager, and so that keeps me busy 9-5 on the weekdays.” You joked. “But other than that, just floating along. Hanging out with friends, taking life a day at a time, y’know? I’m nowhere as interesting as you, Mr. Rock Star… Living in LA and all.”
Jungkook laughed as he slipped off his leather jacket and revealed an entire sleeve of tattoos on his right arm. You eyed them curiously as he had always talked about wanting tattoos in your younger days. It was good to see that he was able to have that aspiration come to fruition. Another reminder of the passage of time between you both.
“Don’t say that, I think you’re one of the coolest people ever. No one approaches life the way you do, Taehyung-hyung might be a close second… but he doesn’t have the flare that you do.” He started then his smile turned slightly void as he followed up. “Would it be awkward to ask how things are with…”
“...Who? Oh, Seokjin?” You casually asked, truthfully you had not said that name since your eventual breakup almost a year ago. TL;DR you both weren’t compatible because you weren’t ready to settle down for whatever reason despite him being ready to take you both to city hall at the drop of a hat. “Uh… we ended things a while ago actually.”
“Right, yeah,” Jungkook responded vaguely. “Sorry if that was weird, it’s just that he and Yoongi-hyung are friends and you haven’t come up in a while whenever Hyung mentions him but sorry if I’m prying and sorry if I am especially making this awkward but –” He was rambling. Cute.
“Jungkook,” You rested a hand on his forearm, ignoring the surge of electricity that unknowingly jolted you both. “I get it, no worries.”
You both couldn’t help the smile that broke out on your faces.
“So what about you? Seeing anyone?”
He looked almost offended by the question but brushed it off. “Me? Nope, life’s been too hectic with the band these past two years to be seriously involved with someone.”
“Uh huh,” you mused before Jungkook cocked his brow in confusion at your response.
“What?”
“‘Seriously involved’? So you have been dabbling in some rockstar tendencies.” You wiggled your eyebrows teasingly. The 21-year-old in you aches, but today you are 28 and not exactly that same old person as before.
Jungkook rolled his eyes. “Shut up. I don’t want to discuss that with you of all people. And besides, we haven’t made it to the big leagues yet. We’re just tadpoles in a lake, we still gotta work our way to bigger waters.”
You only laughed, and Jungkook let you with his arms folded over his chest – basking in this moment he never thought would happen.
However, it was interrupted as an aproned barista approached you both, being the only patrons left as the coffee shop was getting ready to close for the day. The freckled teen awkwardly cleared his throat with a broom in hand. You then observed the fact that the chairs were already perched upon tables – a clear sign that the establishment was closed for business. You both hadn’t realized how much time had passed in chatting. “Hello, I’m sorry but we’re closing for the day. You are welcome to take your drinks with you to the gates though.”
“Sorry about that.”
“No worries, my bad.”
You and Jungkook apologized at the same time while hurriedly gathering your belongings.
Walking out, Jungkook sighed as he held the handle of his guitar case in his tattooed hand. “I can’t believe a place in the airport closes at fucking 5PM.”
“Jungkook, it’s a coffee shop. Closing at 5PM is considered late for that industry already and besides, this isn’t Seoul.” You laughed.
“True… but…” Jungkook cast you a sideways glance. “What are you going to do until your flight tomorrow morning?”
You could only shrug. “Not sure, I was just going to camp out here at JFK.”
A moment of silence passed as you both walked on in no particular direction, only the sound of the wheels of your carry-on suitcase and the heavy footsteps from Jungkook’s combat boots. Despite the 7 years that passed, you could still tell Jungkook was mulling over something. This fact honestly surprised you.
“Penny for your thoughts?” You offered gingerly.
“Now, this is going to sound crazy,” he spoke, his mind clearly running miles a minute and barely able to keep his once stable walking pace. “Hear me out all the way through, okay?”
“Sure.” You shrugged.
“So, my manager got each of us a hotel room not too far from the airport –”
“Jungkook.” You interrupted him incredulously, on the verge of seeing red. Offense, disrespect, anger… it all pulsed through you at once. By this point, you both had stopped in the middle of the wide airport corridor between gates. “Are you fucking serious –”
He held his hands up in defense. “You said you would hear me out!”
“...fine.” Arms crossed over your chest defensively, and you took a step back.
“Like I said, I have this hotel room so what if we kept our stuff there and we explore NYC tonight? Then when morning comes, you could grab your things and head back to Seoul and get back to your routine.” Jungkook now positioned himself where he stood directly before you, eyes connected to yours. “You said it yourself you didn’t get to see NYC. And I’ve been here before, so it all works out.”
You obviously still looked unconvinced with arms crossed over your chest defensively.
“Okay, how about this: there’s a Smart Carte baggage drop-off in Terminal 4 of JFK. Forget stopping by my hotel room, you can drop off your things here so by morning we can both be here for our flights. I’ll be on my way to Vienna and you’ll be headed back to Seoul. How does that sound?” Jungkook negotiated. “Listen, Y/N. It’s just been so nice to hang out with you and I don’t know but there’s something in me that can’t pass up this opportunity to at least help you see the magic of NYC… and to spend a few more hours with you.”
“I…”
Jungkook stepped forward with a pleading stare. “Please, I promise it’ll be worth your while. I feel like you would regret this not happening as much as I would. And if it convinces you, I promise that we can forget that this night ever happened after the fact. I swear…”
A smirk broke out on your face after a tense beat of silence and mulling over his words. “Okay.”
“Okay.” Jungkook could not fight the smile that reached his eyes as he breathed a sigh of relief and then turned, gesturing for you to start off what would be your journey of the evening together.
Tumblr media
By the time you both made it into Manhattan proper, it was prime dinner time. You felt the grumble of your stomach as you and Jungkook sat in the back seat of an iconic yellow taxi. Embarrassedly, you put your hand over your stomach in a feeble attempt to keep it quiet.
“So, y’all are headed to Katz’s?” The taxi driver asked as he glanced at the two of you through the rearview mirror. He was an elderly man wearing a newsboy cap and the taxi itself smelled of the endless cups of coffee he consumed during his day on the clock.
“Yup, we’re hoping the dinner rush isn’t as bad,” Jungkook responded in a friendly manner. “It may be a Tuesday but it’s Katz’s after all.”
The driver chuckled as the traffic was beginning to chip away and the taxi started to speed up on the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge. You couldn’t help the gasp that escaped you as you watched the city sky begin its transition into an orangey-pink sunset. “I’m assuming this fella over here has been to the City before, but is this your first time, Miss?”
You nodded your head. “Yes, actually I came for a conference but have limited time here.”
“Oh? When do you head back to…” he trailed off, not sure how to continue the sentence.
Jungkook took the chance to chime in. “Seoul… in Korea. She heads back tomorrow actually.”
The driver let out a low whistle. “That’s a crazy turnaround time. But listen, New York is a magical place – despite whatever those bozos not even from the city have to say. It has character, and so much can happen in the City that Never Sleeps. It is a land of possibility. And here, thirty years ago, is actually where I met the woman who became my wife. It’s a special place, for sure.”
“I bet.” Jungkook grinned as he looked out the drawn window, taking in the newly warm springtime breeze.
Jungkook let you take the ride in silence, unsure of what was going through your head about this whole situation and in all honestly cursing himself for possibly pressuring you into doing something you weren't comfortable with in the first place. He kept casting cautious glances your way when you weren’t looking.
Eventually, the taxi came to a halt.
“Alrighty, here we are!” The driver pulled up on the busy intersection and you were in awe by the throngs of people despite it being one of the earlier weekdays and the very end of rush hour. Jungkook paid for the ride and ushered you both out of the taxi respectfully.
“Thank you for the ride!” You called out as you exited the vehicle.
“Enjoy New York and all she has to offer!” the driver bid you two before driving off to find his next patron of the evening.

Jungkook almost choked mid-bite of the huge signature pastrami sandwich you both decided to split as you continued to share about that one time your mutual friend back in Seoul, Hoseok, had accidentally cussed out an innocent employee at a haunted house.
“No way.” He barely managed to get out between his mix of coughs and laughs, grabbing the attention of worried customers inside the establishment. He grabbed his cup of water to ease his throat.
“Yes, way! Afterward, he kept bowing in apology. I felt so bad but Namjoon and I were too busy laughing to step in to help.” You put your spoon down, making a good decision to not have a bite of the shared chicken noodle soup as you giggled at the memory.
Once Jungkook calmed down and took a sip of his water, he looked at you in amusement. “Classic Hobi.”
“I know right? But regardless, he’ll always be an angel. Despite that, he doesn’t have a single bad bone in his body.”
Jungkook nodded in agreement. “I miss that guy a lot, man.”
You smiled up at him. “He misses you, too – I’m sure.”
He rested his sandwich on the plate. “Let me know if I’m being weird… but I missed this.”
Your smile faltered as it grew slightly wary. “What do you mean?”
“I don’t know.” He shrugged, genuine. “I just feel like you’ve always been someone I easily get along with and y’know… considering our past and how things aren’t super awkward now. In all honestly, I thought you were just going to ignore me and keep walking away at the airport due to the possibility that you might’ve hated me… I wouldn’t have blamed you, though. I was a bit of an asshole when we ended things. And I am sorry about that. Genuinely.”
You could easily recall that night.
You looked at him, confused. “What?”
“I said I don’t think we should continue seeing each other.” Jungkook stood his ground despite the internal turmoil. “I… just feel like I’m holding you back.”
“You can’t be the only one to decide that, Jungkook.” His words finally started to settle in your bones and it felt like a thousand cuts.
“Listen, you deserve a lot more… and we both know that.”
“Jungkook, you aren’t listening. You can’t just pre-emptively end things like this over something like that – not without discussing it with me too.”
You tried to reason with him by resting a hand on his arm. He finally looked at you with tears in his eyes. You knew at that point, there was no talking him out of it. He firmly believed this was the right choice for you, no matter how inherently selfish he didn’t realize he was being. Being kind to a fault in true Jeon Jungkook fashion.
He was breaking up with you.
You smiled bittersweetly at the memory. “Yeah… that is a fair thought. But you know, we were young. Barely 21 years old. And while that was only 7 years ago, we were different people. I can’t imagine making the same decisions we did back then now.”
“I guess we were.” Jungkook offered, understanding that this was your way of accepting his apology.
“And!” You picked up your spoon again to scoop yourself a spoonful of some chicken noodle soup. “That was before we had developed prefrontal cortexes. And besides, I could never hate you now… I finished with that when I turned 23.” You joked but he froze slightly at your words.
Jungkook made sure to make direct eye contact with you filled with something that could move mountains. “I never intended to hurt you, I really didn’t.”
Your tone also went serious yet understanding. “I know, I know now. And I appreciate you for telling me.”
Despite the bustle of that tiny deli in the middle of the dinner rush, all you could see was Jungkook and all he could see was you. The understanding weighing upon you both now.
“Thank you for also trusting me with taking you out tonight, that means a lot to me.”
“Me too.” You nodded up at him. “I doubt there’s anyone else who would be able to get me out here like this either. I can’t even remember the last time I pulled an all-nighter… it was probably when we were still in undergrad.” The two of you shared a laugh that was abruptly interrupted.
“FINAL CALL! Final call for order number 72!” The person working the counter exclaimed with the order bill in his hands. No one went up to the counter so the employee shook his head to himself in disapproval before proceeding to keep it pushing.
The scene had finally calmed so you turned to Jungkook expectantly. “Alright, we had dinner. So where are we headed now?”
Jungkook wiped the crumbs off his mouth with a napkin as he said, “One of my favorite bars in the city! The vibes are so nice and they often have open mic nights so you get to see some local talent”
“Sounds amazing.”
“Oh, it will be,” Jungkook promised.
“I have to go to the bathroom real quick before we head out, though.” You said as you got up.
He nodded his head as he motioned for you to go. “Do what you gotta do.”
Inside, you looked at yourself in the mirror in the bathroom, unable to grasp how this whole thing could have happened. One second you are about to cry from how cruel the universe was to sitting at a historic deli with Jeon-freaking-Jungkook.
Once you returned, you saw him writing on a napkin which he then folded up and placed in the pocket of his jeans at the sight of you approaching.
“What’s that?”
“Just some thoughts for a possible song that came to me.” Jungkook got up and left some cash for the tip on the table. “C’mon. Let’s head to our next destination!”
Tumblr media
Sitting on the subway, thigh to thigh with Jungkook taking the aisle seat and you on the window seat, he told you that he doesn’t remember the name of this favorite bar but just how to get there. He said that, apparently, was all that mattered as you sat on the A Line train. Trying your best to ignore the close proximity due to the seat and Jungkook’s broad frame, you both took turns taking shy stolen glances at each other – hoping each other would notice just as much as you both wish you wouldn’t. The warm and slightly stagnant air made you both run a little hot, your cardigan resting in your lap and Jungkook’s leather jacket in his.
However, the car of the train started to get packed to the point where people had to step into the aisle right next to Jungkook. The sudden stops causing people to bump into the shaggy-haired singer. You scooted to be more flush against the wall of the car, motioning for Jungkook to get closer to avoid more hits from the rough ride and sudden backpack attack. He looked at you sheepishly as he accepted the invitation, where his arm went around the top of your seat and shoulders to make room for his wide build.
“I hope this is okay.” He gave as he rested against you.
“Yeah, no worries.” You had a smile of reassurance that he mirrored.
It was hard to avoid each other eyes at this point.
You wondered how long it had been since you were last nested against him and why you didn’t feel as uncomfortable as you thought you’d be despite all those years. However, this was no surprise as Jungkook always had that weird effect on you.
“Pardon me, is it cool if I stand here next to you?” A tall, handsome figure appeared from your left side. You peered over your shoulder at the sudden question. It was about an hour before Epik High was supposed to be on stage but you entered the venue early since you wanted a good place to stand on the floor. There were pockets of people but surely not enough where someone had to approach you and ask like that.
Promptly, you had to bring yourself back to reality as you cleared your throat. “Yeah, sure… no worries.”
A bunny-toothed dazzling smile appeared and you watched as his eyes curiously traveled down to the long-sleeved tour shirt you held. A purchase to remember this concert. “Thanks. And oh! I was tempted to get that shirt too. It’s pretty sick.”
Feeling a little self-conscious you avoided his fixed gaze, “Yeah. Their designer for this tour’s merch did an awesome job…”
Jungkook nodded mostly to himself, believing that he was making you uncomfortable. “Listen, sorry if I’m making this awkward but my name’s Jungkook, and I think you seem really cool. But if I’m bothering you, totally let me know and I can give you your space! No hard feelings or anything.”
You smiled at his frankness and shook your head at this. “No, no. Sorry, I think you seem cool too, and I don’t mind at all.” You said before giving your name as well.
“That’s a pretty name,” he responded. “It suits you.”
You politely laughed off the subtle compliment. “Thank you, and I hope so.”
Steadily, you and Jungkook became deeply immersed in conversation – talking about how long you both had been fans of the artist, why you both ended up attending this concert alone, and getting to know each other generally. Most significantly, you found out that you both attended the same university and were the same age among the many things discussed. The conversation flowed comfortably after that initial interaction. That hour before showtime had passed so quickly that you hadn’t noticed how much the venue had filled up and gradually forced you and Jungkook to be shoulder to shoulder from how packed it had become. By the time the venue fell dark and signaling that Epik High was about to set foot on stage, the crowd had slightly pushed forward, forcing you to be closer than ever to Jungkook.
“Sorry, I hope this is okay.” He spoke sheepishly at the proximity.
“No worries.” You smiled at him and at that moment the pyrotechnics of the stage went off, as the concert began – strangely calm despite having only met the man not too long before and cheers erupting from the crowd that surrounded you. There was just something about him.
Tumblr media
There was always something so human (as cliche as it was) about open mic nights. People stand on stage and recite poems where they bare their souls or sing original songs written about the throes of life. A little appreciation for the small things that you and Jungkook shared. You both enjoyed the local buskers back in Seoul during undergrad, especially around springtime when things overall seemed brighter and full of life.
You sat with your pineapple tequila as Jungkook went for his whiskey on the rocks, occasionally shaking the ice cubes around in the glass between sips. You both sat at a booth off to the side of the stage where you could get a decent view of the performers.
“So…” Jungkook started.
You tore your gaze away from the current performer, a girl singing a cover of a Laufey song, to find Jungkook staring at you with a glint in his eye. “...So?”
“I’m honestly surprised you took my offer to spend time with me tonight – with some negotiating, of course but surprised nevertheless.” Jungkook chuckled as he took another sip of his drink. “What was it that convinced you?”
You toyed with a loose strand of hair in contemplation of his words.
What did convince you? Was it the frustration from the flight fiasco? The fact that you were in New York for the first time? This was a question you only recently started to ponder because saying yes felt so right but you couldn’t explain why.
“I just trust you. And it’s been so long since we’ve been in the same place at the same time.” You began, noting how his eyes have softened at your words. “I honestly didn’t know what to think when you first stood there in front of me, y’know? I kind of thought I was hallucinating. I thought that maybe the stress from all the flight mess was getting to me.
“I honestly never thought I would cross paths with you ever again, considering how the trajectory of our lives headed. You live in LA, working full-time on your music and touring. I live back in Seoul, where there’s always a deadline looming over me and I have to set off to meet some client. And besides…” You held his stare where there was a gentle smile on his face. “I knew I wanted to spend more time to catch up with you the second we sat back in that coffee shop at the airport.”
Relief and something else that you couldn’t place washed over his face. Was it regret? Was it longing? You didn’t know exactly but you felt his free hand reach for yours from across the booth. The calloused fingers of his hand from hours of playing guitar caressed yours as he stared at the way they connected. Still a perfect fit. Your first real bit of physical connection since that fateful day when you were both 21 and young and dumb and lost.
“Yeah, me too.” Jungkook started. “But for me, it was the moment before you even saw me. When my eyes found you at the gate, I seriously couldn’t believe it.”
You laughed at this. “Well, I hope that time has done me well since you last saw me.”
Jungkook chuckled as well as he cocked his head to the side. “Are you kidding? You look phenomenal. I’m convinced you always will.”
“Oh, shut up. You’re trying to butter me up.” You joked but deep down, the intensity of the intimacy scared you. It was like a fireplace left dormant for so long had finally lit up. It surged through your whole body and you weren’t sure how to deal with it. You withdrew your hand back slowly and instantly regretted the coldness from the loss of contact. However, it frightened you with all things considered. “You’ve always been such a charmer.”
Jungkook’s expression faltered when you fully pulled back your hand but he tried his best to hide it. Holding your hand just felt so right, like it was the divine providence of the universe – written in the stars and made to fit. No other body could bring the warmth he felt from when he was around you. He was convinced that with your every step, flowers bloomed and skies cleared. He was always a goner for you, and that still stands true to this day.
How funny the universe was, Jungkook thought to himself, that it could create someone so wonderful but have them exist on a different path from his.
“Alright, alright! That was a fantastic cover from Gina. Let’s give her a round of applause, everyone!” The MC and presumed owner of the bar stepped on stage and spoke into the mic, grabbing everyone’s attention. “Now, we have a guest singer that I saw sign up, his name is JK Jeon. Let’s give him a warm welcome!”
You whipped your head to face a sheepish Jungkook finishing the last bits of his whiskey before he patted you on the head and headed towards the stage. “When did he…”
The leather-jacketed, confident lead singer Jeon Jungkook of Bring the Soul appeared before you as he adjusted the mic stand and introduced himself in perfect, unaccented English. “Hi everyone, my name is JK. I signed up because this is one of my favorite places in New York so I thought I’d sing something for you, especially because there’s also someone important here with me today.”
His eyes locked with yours in that moment and you forgot to breathe for a second. He looked so otherworldly in that bar, he had the aura to make the dingiest stage look like some elaborate arena. He was born to perform.
Your second pineapple tequila arrived and it was a much heavier pour from the bartender. However, you were grateful as the surge of emotions overcame you. Everything was feeling surreal again and you definitely needed this drink despite being a little bit of a lightweight.
“So, this song is titled ‘seasons’ by a band called wave to earth. Hope you enjoy it.”
With that, he signaled for the song to start and the first keys of a piano filled the dim bar. Not once did Jungkook’s eyes leave yours as he sang. You were absolutely bewitched as the song progressed, and so was the rest of the bar. A couple across the room embraced each other, two friends shared a toast of their drinks with a lively clank, and the bartender even paused to take in Jungkook’s singing… all these people were brought together by his undeniable talent. Your heart was so full and you were so proud, and distracted until you really started to listen to the lyrics of the song.
But I'll pray for you all the time
If I could be by your side
I'll give you all my life, my seasons
By your side, I'll be your seasons
My love
A thunderous applause surged through the bar as Jungkook thanked the audience and stepped off the stage fluidly before heading straight for the booth where you still sat. However, instead of sitting across from you, he slid into the bench where you were and settled right next to you.
“How was that?” Jungkook’s arm naturally went around your shoulders and you swore you were soaring.
You rested your head on his bicep as you gazed up at him, and Jungkook was swooning at how adorable you looked then. The dim, soft lights make you look ethereal to him. “It was amazing, as always.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“Cool.” Jungkook stroked your hair as you continued to rest your head on his arm. He could tell you were beginning to feel your drinks in your system since you had long finished your two pineapple tequilas and were now babysitting a pint of beer.
“Hey, Jungkook.” He barely caught it as you basically whispered it out. “Y’know, I’m going to be really sad about everything once morning comes.”
His eyes widened as he shared the same sentiments. “Yeah… me, too.”
“But!” You suddenly shot upright in posture and surprised him as you grabbed your drink by its handle. “None of that dramatic ‘goodbye’ shit in the morning!” You tipsily pointed at Jungkook with your beer who only laughed at your theatrics as some foam spilled.
Between chuckles, Jungkook was barely able to let out at the sudden shift in mood. “Okay, then what do we say at the end? When it’s morning time?”
“What people always say at that time – ‘good morning’ and not goodbye. Let’s make it a nice ending for us, I feel like that would do us both justice.” Your gaze was too hazy to see the seriousness that lined his face but he shook it off and plastered his signature smile despite the storm in his heart. “I know it’s a little cheesy, but I don’t want to be sad in those last minutes with you.”
“Okay, we’ll bid each other ‘good morning’ when dawn comes then we go on with the rest of our lives. No sad stuff.” You missed how tight-lipped his grin was.
“Promise?”
“Yeah, I promise.”
Tumblr media
“Alright, follow me!” Jungkook called from over his shoulder as he jogged to catch the door to the rooftop of some swanky highrise apartment complex that you two managed to sneak into.
He held the door open for you, with his free hand exaggeratedly ushering you to go first like a medieval knight. “After you, m’lady.”
By this time, the alcohol had flushed out of your system on the twenty-minute walk Jungkook had brought you on after hearing about how much you wanted to see the skyline but didn’t want to pay a ridiculous amount for a view. And this is where it led you: on the lounge rooftop of a luxury apartment building. The twinkling lights of the city sparked beneath you. The haphazard spacing of the lights from nearby buildings were windows into the lives of the people who occupied the space. Then, you had the great Empire State Building literally blocks away, its spire brightly illuminating the night. To your right, there was a patch of darkness that was Central Park.
You were breathless at the sight before you. Suddenly, you felt connected with every fiber of your being. The light midnight breeze that swam between your loose strands of hair felt like a glass of fresh water as it revitalized you. There you were, in New York City – looking at it from a bird’s eye point of view. Nothing could have ever prepared you for this.
You then felt Jungkook stand close next to you as he bumped his shoulder with yours playfully. “How is it?”
“It’s so beautiful.” It took everything in you to tear your gaze away from the view to look at Jungkook. “How did you know about this place?”
He snickered mischievously. “One of the label’s former execs used to live in this building. He used to talk about it all the time and I couldn’t help but remember it. Glad it lived up to all the talk though, it is gorgeous up here.”
And with that, he began to walk over to the outdoor couch hidden behind the privacy of a cabana in front of a fire pit. He turned it on effortlessly before plopping down on the couch right beside the glass-protected edge of the building for what you assumed to be a maximum viewing experience. You followed and sat down, his arm naturally finding its way wrapped behind your shoulders.
“I never thought I would be able to experience something like this,” you marveled at the night skyline with an at-ease smile on your face, letting your body fit into a nook created by Jungkook’s. “Never would I think feeling so small like this would be so comforting. I don’t regret this at all.”
Absentmindedly, Jungkook’s hand began to play with one of the strands of your hair. “Yeah, same. I regret a lot of things, but this definitely wouldn’t be one – not by a long shot.”
“Oh? Like what kind of regrets?” You asked him, scared to look into his eyes at that moment.
“Letting my insecurities and tendencies for perfectionism get the best of me. There were so many times when it got in the way of being present. Whether it be with the band, my life… and you.” His hand froze as he cleared his throat. “I regret letting you go. And I feel like the biggest idiot on the face of the earth, y’know? I thought that I had to be successful to be worthy of your love. To be worthy of someone so utterly beautiful inside and out. You were truly my morning light. And I hurt you. I hurt you because I was insecure and so lost in my head.” He blew out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding. “And Y/N, I can’t even begin to explain how much it kills me to sit here with you knowing I did that. And I think that’s because my heart will always be yours, y’know. And I know I’m rambling but I’ve been meditating on this for the past few years because it always bothered me to hear how great and peachy things were for you with that Seokjin guy from Yoongi-hyung, I… don’t know…”
You sat up and finally made eye contact with Jungkook at his confession, resting a comforting hand on his chest. “Jungkook, can I tell you something?”
“Of course.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about…” You whispered as Seokjin stood before you under a streetlight at the park not too far from his apartment.
“My love, I just can’t do this anymore. I love you so much but it’s time we both be honest.” Seokjin reached for your gloved hand. It was the tail end of autumn and the first signs of winter were beginning to make its appearance. “I don’t think we should meet anymore.”
Tears lined your eyes but the rush of the emotion present was so foreign to you. You knew you should have been sadder and while you were sad... However, at that point, you realized that you were more sorrowful about losing Seokjin as a person in your life than your actual romantic relationship ending. That’s when it hit you, the tears falling. “How did you…”
“My love, you're one of the most intelligent people I know but I don’t think you even realized it yourself. But your heart isn’t in it with me. And that’s okay, I’ll always have a soft spot for you and I’m sure you know that.” Seokjin sighed as he respectfully let go of your hand and took a definitive step back, still handsome and composed. “I’m afraid I just can’t keep fighting like this for a love that was never meant to be mine in the first place.”
“I think that it will always be you.” You whispered, at this point your lips just mere centimeters from Jungkook’s.
“It’ll always be you, too,” Jungkook responded, too drunk in your perfume and the feeling of your being so close to his. “Y/N, can I tell you something now?”
“Of course.”
“Would it be okay if I kissed you right now?”
Wordlessly, you closed the gap between you two. The second your lips connected, it felt a lot like a warm summer day. Electricity turned static force kept you connected like that. Soon, lips moved in sync like rolling ocean waves during low tide. Hands lost in hair and tracing all the valleys of each other’s bodies, leaving goosebumps at they traversed every familiar inch. Jungkook’s plush lips felt so homey and so right. Your hand went right back to resting on his chest, feeling the intense beating of his heart. A pace set for you only.
It hurt so much to have to disconnect so you both could catch your breath.
“Wow…” Jungkook licked the last taste of you off his lips, savoring the moment with his eyes closed and forehead rested upon yours. “I missed this so fucking much. I missed you so much.”
“Please kiss me again...” Your eyes gazed into his and he obliged happily.
And your lips found each other again just like that.
Hands grew more adventurous as the kiss grew more heated. Jungkook’s calloused and cold hands made their way under your shirt, cupping your tender breasts through your bra. At this, you gently pushed him to sit back further on the couch so you could climb on top. The second you straddled his hips, you began to grind down onto his clothed dick, earning you a grunt of satisfaction. His hands grew impatient as he then pushed your shirt and bra up to reveal perky nipples, the chill of the night making them more erect.
“You look a little cold, baby. But don’t worry, I’ll take care of you.” He said before taking one nipple into his mouth and his free hand making sure the other wasn’t left unattended. You couldn’t help the moan that escaped you as he was living up to his words.
You reached down between your bodies and slipped them into his denim jeans, feeling his hot and heavy dick in the palm of your hands. This got you another grunt from Jungkook, suddenly you were on your back lying down on the couch and Jungkook flashed you his charismatic smile. “Getting a little handsy, I see.” He leaned down and began kissing your neck, remembering your sweet spot despite your time apart. It was his turn for his hand to slip into your pants, gathering your slick between his fingers to play with your clit.  “Baby, let me eat you out, okay?”
You could have easily come right then and there.
You barely managed a nod as you felt him pull down your jeans and panties in tow after kicking off your sneakers. Once off, Jungkook sat back as he in the sight of your sprawled like that before him. Snapping out of his daze, he crouched down and just lost all sense of shame the second his mouth tasted you. Sucking rhythmically on your clit, rubbing circles on your inner thigh, it was all too much. The sloppy sounds of his saliva mixing in with your wetness were all you could focus on as you felt your walls tighten on nothing.
“Jungkook, baby, your fingers…”
He didn’t need to be told twice as he continued his string of slurps on your pussy and inserted one finger, beginning to stretch you out. The loudest moan escaped you embarrassingly considering you both were in a public place. However Jungkook didn’t care, he was making up for lost time after all. And then another long digit went inside you, pumping wildly and that was it.
The threads of the rope in your stomach were wound so tight that the fine fibers were beginning to give. Jungkook knew your undoing was near so he continued his onslaught of your pussy with his mouth and fingers. Soon enough, the rope snapped, your eyes sealed shut as you saw white and your jaw went slack while you continued to leak out. Your body felt utterly buoyant, among the clouds, and your mind far ahead of your physical being. How long had it been since you came like that?
Jungkook happily lapped up your cum like a man who had gone without water. “You look so fucking beautiful, so beautiful.”
“Need you… inside…” You finally said as you came to and began to remove Jungkook’s leather jacket and his white tee. “More, I want more of you…”
His smile shined as the bottom half of his face was proudly covered in your slick. That dazed smile stayed plastered as he undid the bucket of his belt, the jingle of his pants and boxers hitting his ankles had you in anticipation.
“Your wish is my command, baby. All yours… I’m all yours” He continued to toy with your already sensitive clit as he began to gently push himself inside your tight core. Both your eyes went wide with how good the tight fit was. It took everything in Jungkook to not come at that moment. His eyes only got a glimpse of the delectable scene of where he entered you before he had to screw them shut in concentration. “You feel so good as always, could die like this.”
You began to move around him, wanting friction and he took that as his sign to start moving as well. What started as slow and steady, became desperate and erratic. He hovered over you, his lips on the valley of your neck and hand gripping onto your breast as you felt every single velvet inch of him fuck you. Your arms wrapped around his neck, trying to pull him closer if that was even possible. It was all-consuming, it was otherworldly. He hit you in all the right places and it was so good that you didn’t know what to do with yourself.
“Jungkook, just like that, baby. Let’s come together, okay?” You spoke into his ears which kicked him into overdrive. You were so full of him. His hand fondling your painfully erect nipple, his mouth right on the spot he knew would have you, and Jungkook groaned as you clenched him so tight, having him reach his own undoing. A sheen of sweat lined Jungkook’s forehead as he cocked a focused brow. He drank in the fucked out image of you, encouraging him to thrust into you even more sporadically despite how sensitive you both were.
It felt so right to be filled up with his cum, with his dick, with him.
The two of you sat there in that fucked out state for a couple more minutes to catch your breath again.
Eventually, Jungkook got up with that dopey smile still on his face as he began to dress you despite still lying on the couch and straighten your clothes. He punctuated each movement with a peck on your swollen lips. His movements were more delicate and tender compared to the heated desperation from moments ago. Once he was dressed as well, he collapsed with you on the couch with his arm slung around you.
“You’re so beautiful.” He made eye contact again, however his airy smile faltered at seeing your bittersweet expression make another appearance. “Hey, baby… what’s wrong?”
“Where do we go from here, Jungkook?” You asked as you reached for his face, caressing a cheek with your thumb. “Because now I’m going to be even more sad when morning comes…”
Fuck. Jungkook had been so caught up in that moment that he didn’t realize what the consequences would be after the fact. While he sure as hell didn’t regret what happened, he didn’t want to hurt you any more than he already has.
“It doesn’t have to be like that… we can work something out. I can figure something out. I just – I just don’t want you to regret this, regret us… Just give me some time to think and I can –”
You quietly stopped him with a shake of your head, letting him know that it was okay. “It’s okay, you belong in LA, where your life is now. And I belong in Seoul, where my life is now – I know that much. I can’t ask you to uproot your life and give up the band, nor could I leave Seoul given everything happening at home. Just know that I don’t regret this, not at all. However, it’ll be quite sad when morning comes.”
Jungkook could only nod at the heaviness of your words. While they were a hard pill to swallow, they were correct. Both those things rang true in his head. He ached for you so much now he had another taste of life with you, but you both knew there was nowhere to go from here. By late noon, you’ll already be on a flight back to Seoul and he’ll be headed to Vienna to start the European leg of Bring the Soul’s tour.
“I’ll be sad when morning comes, too. Irrevocably sad.” Jungkook knew that would be the extent of all he could say then.
Silently, he sat upright where he led you to rest your head in his lap. He looked down at you fondly, a matching bittersweet expression on his face as he began to stroke your hair. A quiet promise was exchanged between you both to enjoy these last moments of intimacy before the sun rose.
Tumblr media
You both had fallen asleep on that rooftop lounge. Then you woke up around 6AM to Jungkook trying to get you up, talking about taking you to one more place before the night was officially over. Eventually, you both were jogging out of the luxury apartment building, hand in hand, as the two of you entered the subway station to head southwest to the piers to catch the sunrise.
It was a solemn train ride, to say the least. Both of you avoided each other’s eyes on the ride, like anxious teenage lovers who experienced their first quarrel. It was hell, and the time when you both got off at your correct stop couldn’t have come sooner. His hands still intertwined with yours as you walked off into the morning world, the sun beginning to make its appearance known. The morning’s dew still coated the patches of grass as you both traveled to the edge of the pier which overlooked the water.
At this point, the blue hour had long passed as the bright star that is our sun began to peek through the horizon. The sky turned from midnight blue to a vibrant yellow with hints of orange. That’s it. This is it…
The morning had officially come.
You cursed every cliched metaphor referencing the elusiveness of time… the grains of sand slipping through fingertips, the ticking of clock hands that echo in the back of your head, the passage of breezes, and the eventual rising of the morning sun.
Jungkook smiled gently, wiping away a tear with his thumb which you didn’t even feel form as it fell down your cheek. “Don’t worry.”
“I just want you to know that I loved being in this moment. Sharing this night with you, that tonight it felt like New York was all ours. I could have never seen its beauty and experienced its magic the way I did with you.” Barely managing through your cries, you gasped for a breath as you tried to make out the next words. “But why did things have to turn out this way?”
The loud caws of the seagulls as they flew over the pier and the cold morning air fell onto forgotten senses as the only thing you could feel was the intensity of Jungkook’s stare on you. From your forehead that he placed a tender kiss upon, to your eyes that mirrored that silent longing his contained, the nose that he nuzzled against his, and chin that he held softly in his rough hand… It was like he was taking a picture of you at that moment. A moment where he was not rockstar Jeon Jungkook, but the Jungkook who always found a way to make you laugh and the Jungkook you dreamed of sharing matching rings with. And you were not the person living too fast for anyone to keep up with, but a person who could find the beauty in anything and the person that Jungkook could write a million and one songs about.
“Shh,” he comforted you as his arms wrapped around your shoulders, pulling you into his chest. “I really can’t thank you enough for tonight… I’ve never hated to see morning as much as I do now.” He chuckled dryly at the irony of all.
You pulled back, surprising the man who towered over you. You held his confused face in your hands and smiled. “Me, too. I hope you know that.”
“I do now…” He whispered as though louder words could break the moment before placing a chaste kiss on one of the hands that cupped his face.
“Now what?” Your hands fell from his face and rested on his chest.
Jungkook sighed in contemplation as he peered past you into the blossoming orange horizon before recentering his eyes on you and grin losing its warmth, being replaced with sadness. “Good morning, I guess.”
The gravity of the situation settled upon you both silently.
“None of that dramatic ‘goodbye’ shit in the morning!” You tipsily pointed at Jungkook with your beer who only laughed at your theatrics as some foam spilled.
Between chuckles, Jungkook was barely able to let out. “Okay, then what do we say at the end? When it’s morning?”
No sad stuff.”
“Promise?”
“Yeah, I promise.”
“Good morning, Jungkook.” No matter how dazzling your smile was, Jungkook could never be distracted from the tears that lined your gorgeous eyes.
No physical closeness could ever combat the weight of what daybreak meant for you both.
Tumblr media
“For JK?” The driver of the Uber called out of the window as he pulled up.
You and Jungkook stood before each other again, hand in hand for the final time. You squeezed his rough hand, a wordless command of it’s time to let go. And just like that, his hand – despite its hesitation – followed and released its grip on yours. No matter how disheveled you both may have looked from the sleepless night of journeying, it all felt surreal.
“Good morning, Y/N.”
“Good morning, Jungkook.”
Then one more quick kiss before you had gotten into the car he ordered for you and began the journey back to your life. A life without Jeon Jungkook. You rode with the window down, taking the sight of New York in a new day’s light. It felt so foreign and so different from the New York you experienced in the last fifteen hours with Jungkook. That taxi driver was right, you were convinced, that New York was a magical place and had so much more to offer.
You abruptly felt something wrinkle in the pocket of your jeans as you adjusted yourself in the backseat of the car. Reaching in, you fished out a Katz’s Deli napkin and remembered how Jungkook was writing on it when you had excused yourself to go to the bathroom. You carefully unfolded the napkin and read what was written on it: I’m sure by the time you’ll see this, you would’ve given me the most memorable night I could never forget even if someone were to beat it out of me. I’m dreading sunrise as I write this right now. Though, I’ll hold close what tonight has in store for us. I don’t know if our paths will ever cross again, but I’m sure that this was the most beautiful sunrise I could ever experience because it was with you.
You pondered the possibilities as the heartache fully set in from reading his note. What if you told this Uber to turn around right now? What if you stayed longer? What if you took Jungkook’s offer to figure something out? What if you didn’t have to say goodbye on that forsakenly beautiful pier? What if?
However, it no longer mattered.
This was the reality you both lived in.
You had the connection, felt it again, and let it take its course.
That was what mattered. No what ifs, maybes, or perhapses. What matters is only what happened and that it, in fact, did happen.
Jungkook watched your car disappear into the morning traffic commute, gone was the warmth that you both shared on that chilly spring morning. He began to laugh at himself, at how cruel the universe was. It could have been perfect. It could have been the ultimate love story. It all could’ve.
Jungkook kicked a random pebble in his path as he finally looked at his phone log after putting his phone on Do Not Disturb for the whole duration with you.
Min Yoongi | 2 Missed Calls

FROM: Manager Sejin | Kid, where the HELL did you go? Call me back asap
FROM: Manager Sejin | Jungkook this isn’t funny
Jungkook laughed at the missed notifications from the group and his manager before giving Yoongi a call back, reasoning that he would be the most level-headed given all the missed notifications after sending a quick message.
TO GROUP: Bring the Soul | Hey, I’m ok lol. I’m at the pier
The caller's ring sounded twice before Yoongi picked up groggily, but still picked up nonetheless. “Where the hell did you go last night?”
“Just hanging around. New York is a magical place, hyung.” Jungkook responded vaguely but Yoongi caught the hint of bittersweetness in the younger’s tone.
“Alright… We’re about to get breakfast at a restaurant close to you. I’ll text you the address. Meet us there by 9AM.”
“Sounds good, hyung.”
“Okay. And uh… are you alright?”
Damn Yoongi’s intuition, Jungkook thought to himself and sighed into the receiver of his cell phone.
“Yeah… it’s a damn good morning after all.”

Tumblr media
harana (n.): the act of wooing someone by serenading them

Tumblr media
Two days before the incident, your shower nozzle decides to explode.
Okay, you have to admit that statement is a little misleading. Shower nozzles, in all its nonsentience, do not randomly decide to explode no matter how much you try to defend yourself to your landlord. Maybe your grip had been a little too harsh that morning, or maybe hanging 5 pounds of hair products on the handle had been a bit too much for the old sport to handle. Or maybe, just maybe, the universe was warning you about the incident.
Whatever it was, it doesn’t erase the fact that your shower would be out of commission for the next week or so (though your landlord seems adamant about prolonging your suffering as long as possible). Until then, you’re going to have to find some other ways to keep the grease and grime from building on you. Heavens know that you already have a thriving ecosystem living in the back of your couch—you don’t need another one growing under your armpits.
Lucky for you, you have friends. More importantly, you have friends who have showers. There is one problem though—all your friends live on the other side of the country.
It’s been two years since you moved to the Big City™️, but you have done little to grow your social network. Call it introversion or depression, either way, you have no more contacts on your phone than you did when you left your hometown. Well, except for one person, if you could even consider him one. Frankly, you didn’t have a choice.
“Welcome to my humble abode, stinky,” Jimin greets you as you enter his house. Your nose is instantly assaulted by the smell of Bath & Body Works® Sweet Pea, reminding you once more why you didn’t consider him a friend.
“Hey,” you reply gruffly, shucking your ratty shoes near his entrance. Your shoes look incredibly out of place amidst the sea of designer Chelsea boots and a singular pair of thigh-high heels. You take a glance at his living room, already feeling worse about yourself tenfold.
You had met Park Jimin by complete accident, much like how his mother probably felt when she first saw him too. You had never known anyone quite as… interesting as him, to put it lightly.
When you got your job as a hostess for a luxury bar and restaurant, you figured you wouldn’t make many friends with your coworkers. Everyone was so… pretty, but in the shiny, untouchable sort of way. Almost all of the servers were as gorgeous as the models you’d see in magazines. You hadn’t known that the owners only hired a certain “demographic” of people for their restaurant, and you were equal parts flattered and disgusted that you’d somehow made it (though you suppose your bullshitting skills were all to thank).
Unsurprisingly, even the bartenders were gorgeous, including one Park Jimin. He did have an aura to him that screamed “I’m a cut above the rest and I know it,” but that could just be the gold chains dripping down his neck. You almost mistook him as one of the patrons who mistakenly made his way behind the bar, and knowing the sort of clientele you’ve had to deal with so far, you wouldn’t have been surprised. It took a couple of weeks before you finally found out who he was (and what his fucking problem was).
Jimin was a part-time bartender with a full-time job as a bitch a self-made entrepreneur. Which is to say, he sold… tasteful photos of himself on the internet. You had nothing against his line of work. In fact, you would go far as to say you didn’t give a shit what he did outside of your shared workspace. But if there’s one thing Jimin is, it’s that he hates being ignored.
So when you were adamant about not oohing and aahing at everything that makes Park Jimin perfect, he made it his self-appointed mission to befriend you. Or at least that’s what he claims, but given how he treats you lesser than the shit that cakes his cheeks, you have a lot of doubts. Perhaps he’s never made an effort to make a friend, hence his inexperience with being a decent human being. Or perhaps he’s just an asshole, but who is to say? The point is: he’s the only person you knew in this godforsaken city who would likely allow you to use his shower without being awkward about it and that’s that.
The worst part about being an acquaintance with Park Jimin was that he lived in the richest area of Downtown but he wasn’t old money, that’s for sure. His entire essence screamed overconsumption, and his myriad of little trinkets littered across his apartment confirmed your previous assessment. You wouldn’t be surprised if you opened his freezer and found ten types of ice sorted assorted by color and shape like the extra bitch that he was.
He made his money through sheer force, and it would have impressed you if he wasn’t, you know. Him.
“Bathroom is over there. I placed a towel and other shower amenities that you can borrow,” he says pointing to a door with a large “FART ZONE: ENTER WITH CAUTION” sign taped to it. You don’t ask.
“Thanks,” you say flatly. You wait patiently for his out-of-pocket comment.
Like clockwork, Jimin smirks. “Sure thing. I gave you the super heavy-duty stuff. Figured you’d burn a hole through my expensive towels with how stinky you are, with your yeasty cu—”
“Aaaand I’ll be done in a few minutes. Thanks again Jimin,” you interrupt, making your way to the bathroom and slamming the door with as much force as you can muster. You hear something fall as the door shuts, and you vaguely hear Jimin mutter something about his “fart zone” signage.
You begin to prepare your shower routine, humming lowly as you go about your business. You try to ignore the suffocating scent of ten million diffusers entering your nostrils, wondering for the umpteenth time if Jimin is suffering from long-term olfactory dysfunction.
“Focus, Y/N. The quicker you shower, the quicker you can get the fuck out of here,” you whisper to yourself. However, in your haste, you knock over Jimin’s towel by accident. When the towel falls, a sheet of sandpaper slips out from underneath it, and you stare bemusedly until it finally hits you.
“YOU ARE SUCH A LITTLE BITCH!”
From behind the door, you can hear Jimin’s infamous cackle. “Did you find the loofah? I got it just for you, darling!” he shouts back through his laughter, and you just grumble back in response. How on earth no one has strangled him to death, you have no idea.
“Whatever. I’m gonna shower now! Go beat off or whatever the fuck you do in your spare time,” you grouse, stripping as quickly as possible.
When the first droplets of water hit your body, you can’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. You had both anticipated and dreaded going to Jimin’s house, but you desperately needed the shower. So you go through your routine, trying to find some semblance of relaxation throughout the process. However, it seems that Jimin was yearning for a little bit of attention as he chose to recline on the other side of the door and chat your ear off. Peace was never an option, it seems.
“Hey, Y/N! So why haven’t I seen you at work recently?” Jimin hollers from his living room. Despite the wall separating you, his voice manages to retain its volume.
You squirt a large glob of Jimin’s (expensive) conditioner onto your hands. “What do you mean? I go to work every day. You were the one who hasn’t been clocking in.”
You can hear Jimin scoff. “Um, correction! I went to work last Friday, which so happened to be your day off. If I didn’t know any better, I would have assumed you were avoiding me.”
And right you are, you think. But instead, you say, “Yeah, what a coincidence. I’ll be back to my regular schedule on Monday, though.”
“So that means you didn’t see the Justin Bieber wannabe stationed outside the restaurant then?” Jimin asks, voice miffed. “The guy suddenly sat down by the entrance window and a whole damn crowd started to appear! The absolute nerve of these people—don’t they know Park Jimin was just past the doors?”
This provokes Jimin to go on his long epic soliloquy, which you’ve learned to drown out over the past two years. He could go on hour-long tirades if he wanted, and any interruption from you would just bounce off his nonfunctioning ears. And so, you allow his voice to fall to the back of your mind, similar to white noise if it wasn’t so grating.
However, this was likely your greatest mistake. If you hadn’t been so exhausted, or if Park Jimin hadn’t been so damn annoying all the time, or if the stars had aligned just right… Maybe you would have been forewarned about the incident. It’s as if the universe was screaming at you to pay attention, but alas… You were standing on the proverbial highway, unbeknownst to the incoming traffic because you had your metaphorical AirPods on.
So there you are, completely showered but none the wiser to your impending doom, naively looking to the future with unsuspecting eyes. Even if you had known of what was to come, would avoiding it even be possible? In hindsight, you suppose not, but you still kick yourself for being so blind. If only you’d steeled your heart, then maybe you wouldn’t have felt like vomiting in front of a crowd of innocent bystanders the very next day.
xxx
Monday comes and your shower still isn’t fixed. Jimin makes the benevolent gesture of allowing you to use his shower in the meantime, though you’ll only partake in his offer as minimally as possible. He does mention that he’ll need at least an hour’s notice, warning you about “accidental voyeurism.” You shudder to think of what sort of horror you might find if you did visit him without warning, and you pray for the continued well-being of your retinas.
On your way to work, you’re too busy watching cute videos of animals to notice the unusual flock of people idling close to your workplace. When you get closer, however, the growing commotion is enough to rip your gaze away from your phone, and the sight of the large crowd makes you stop in your tracks.
It is 4 pm and the usual line of waiting patrons should not start piling up for another three hours, so this confuses you more than anything. You shuffle closer, squinting at the crowd until you notice that they aren’t lined up at all; instead, they have congregated into a large circle, but you are too far to see what they are surrounding.
An accident? You worry, wondering if something terrible happened. You tiptoe above the heads of people, subtly moving forward to take a better look. Curse you and your curiosity. You take a deep breath, bracing yourself to see something grotesque or astonishing, but instead…
It’s worse.
Inching closer, you can begin to hear a soft thrumming of a guitar and a gentle singing voice that causes alarm bells to ring in your ears. The warm melody digs up old memories of a time long past: of ballads sung outside your childhood bedroom window, of promises whispered under Spiderman sheets, of tender caresses tucking stray hairs behind your ears… They flood your senses, but all you can feel is dread.
It can’t be who you think it is. You accidentally elbow a guy on your way to get closer, unsteadying his grip on his phone.
“Hey, watch it! I’m filming a totally not-staged TikTok over here!” He yells, but you can hardly pay attention to him when you feel unnaturally drawn to come closer, still.
You’re nearly at the front, with just a couple of teenagers standing between you and the (not-so) mysterious street performer. But the distance is enough, and your breath catches. You can see him—
Black hair partially hidden under a bucket hat. Boots bigger than Pangaea and a pair of eyes equally as large. Dark ink snaking down his arms, peeking out from under oversized sleeves. Piercings that could rival Park Jimin on a good day. He isn’t facing you, but you can still see his big doe eyes, gentle sloping nose, and pretty lips stretched into a handsome smile.
Your heart is thundering in your chest. This can’t be happening, you panic. After two whole years of rebuilding and reshaping yourself, relearning how to be yourself and not… not just his girlfriend.
Jeon Jungkook stands before you, busking in front of your workplace of all locations. The universe could not have been any crueler to you.
You—you had been known as nothing more than Jeon Jungkook’s high school sweetheart. Buried memories of snide comments from jealous teen girls fill your mind, reminding you of the time when you were coined a simple side piece to the main attraction. Decor, as they would call you. Nothing more than a girl who happened to snag Jungkook before people realized he was going to turn… hot. A hot guy who could sing. An inevitable chic magnet, as they would call him.
And now, years later after much therapy and soul searching, your worst nightmare is standing in front of you in the flesh. This is what you will eventually dub the incident.
At that moment, however, there is little to no time to dwell on naming this ongoing core memory. All you can feel is the adrenaline pumping through your veins, as well as the nausea rising up your throat. You stumble backward, blatantly shoving onlookers away as you struggle to find some air to breathe. In hindsight, you probably should have backed away as subtly as possible, but you hope that your dyed hair might be different enough that Jungkook wouldn’t know it was you if he had glanced your way.
Even when you stagger towards your work establishment, the walls cannot perfectly muffle his soothing singing. You can’t make out the lyrics to his song too well, but his unmistakable voice is hard to ignore. Working as a hostess, your station is also coincidentally as close to the door as possible for maximum torture.
This can’t get any worse, you think as your mind races with conflicting emotions. You thought you had moved on, thought you were past the pain and the memories, but seeing Jungkook again, unexpectedly, stirs up a storm of feelings you thought were buried deep. Anger, hurt, betrayal—all rush to the surface, threatening to overwhelm you.
But there is no time to unpack all that baggage right now. Time will continue to march on, and your job is still on the line. How can you have the time to have a mental breakdown when you were still living paycheck to paycheck?
But even as you try to push Jungkook out of your mind, his voice echoes in your ears, his image burned into your memory. It's as if the universe is laughing at your misery, reminding you that despite all your supposed growth, you are still just you.
Painfully and pathetically you.
As you struggle to pull yourself together, a familiarly loud voice rings outside the edge of your consciousness. “Hey, Y/N! Fancy seeing you here…” Jimin greets you, his usual jovial demeanor halting midway when he sees your panicked expression. He clears his throat, perplexed. “Umm… Are you alright there, girl? You’re looking a little pale.”
You do not even have the mental capacity to wonder why Park Jimin was miraculously early to his shift, nor why he seems genuinely worried for you. Rather, all you can do is wave him off and use what little time you have before the restaurant opens to steel yourself for hours of melodious torture.
“I’m fine, Park. You should get to work,” you grit out, wiping your sweaty palms on your uniform. Normally, Jimin would have teased you about the obvious wrinkles on your skirt.
“You’re not the boss of me,” Jimin huffs, always the contrarian. He thinks better of it, however, and softens his tone. “Are you feeling sick or something? You look like you just saw a ghost.”
You freeze, perhaps giving yourself away a little. “I’m fine,” you repeat.
“You know, if you refuse to elaborate, I’m going to have to retract your shower privileges,” Jimin taunts with a smirk.
You feel a migraine growing by your temple, making you wince. God, why must men be the source of all your problems?
“I’m just… a little annoyed by the busker outside the restaurant,” you eventually admit, trying to be vague. Unfortunately for you, Jimin hates beating around the bush and would never take your crap if he knows something is up.
Unable to withstand the weight of his unimpressed stare, you clarify, “He was someone I used to know, that’s all.” You aren’t going to be any more specific than that, though you imagine Jimin gets the picture. You zip your lips, hoping to whoever is causing you pain that Jimin would somehow let the matter drop and leave you to your misery.
You brace yourself for his onslaught of questioning to come, and… it doesn’t happen. Instead, when you glance at Jimin, he is mysteriously stone faced. You wait for him to speak for what feels like a few minutes, but he doesn’t show any signs of wanting to tease or ridicule you. He simply watches you with a pensive expression. You can barely stop yourself from staring back at him, slack-jawed at his silence.
Of course, you aren’t just going to question your luck, or what little you have at least. So, you stay silent back and fidget uncomfortably.
Finally, Jimin seems to snap out of his strange reverie. He fixes you with a bizarrely sympathetic grin, patting you affectionately on the back. “I see… Well, if you ever need a drink tonight, head over to the bar for a little sip. I got you covered,” is all he says in response before sashaying away.
That was so fucking weird. You want to chase after him, perhaps beat the truth out of him. Jimin is nothing but a scheming dick, and you aren’t about to let him roam free with such sensitive information about yourself. Just as you’re about to stomp his ass (perhaps to relieve some of the building tension from your weary soul), your manager pops his head from his office door.
“Y/N! Make sure you’re logged into the booking system. There’s going to be a party of 20 coming in about an hour,” he reminds you, shooting you an apologetic look. You nod back with a sigh, swiping the booking tablet from the hostess desk and scrolling through the logs. Sure enough, it is going to be a busy night despite being a Monday evening. Perhaps a little busier than usual, in fact.
Whatever. You will use whatever distraction you can get, and perhaps the approaching noise from the restaurant patrons will be enough to drown out the sound of his voice.
You aren’t religious by any means, but you pray to whatever higher power exists that Jeon Jungkook doesn’t somehow decide to enter the restaurant. Stay outside, you plead. Outside the restaurant and your life, if possible.
Throughout the evening, you do your best to push aside the memories that threaten to resurface. You greet customers with a smile, lead them to their tables, and ensure their dining experience is pleasant despite the anxiety poisoning your insides. It's a routine you've perfected over time, a shield against the chaos of your emotions.
As the night wears on, you can feel Jimin's eyes on you from across the restaurant. You sneak glances back at him, and you blanch at his pitying gaze. If the restaurant had been slightly less crowded, you would have flipped him off.
He’s probably enjoying my suffering, you think darkly. Unwilling to give him the satisfaction, you straighten up and do your best to appear more unaffected. Just as you do so, you can hear Jungkook perfectly hitting a soulful high note.
“I’m so sorry for thinking I was strong,” you whisper to the universe. “Forgive me for my insolence.” You clench your fist in anguish, ignoring the confused looks from the customers in front of you.
By the time your shift comes to a close, you are completely and utterly drained. You feel like a snail that has been continuously salted over the past eight hours, and you cannot help but cheer in relief when the clock finally strikes two in the morning. You have to wait for the last few diners to make their leave, but otherwise you are ready to let your bed swallow you whole.
You stand by your hostess desk, leaning your head against it with a defeated sigh. Jungkook’s voice had died down only a few minutes ago, and you hope that by this point he has mercifully left the premises. You want to take a peek to make sure, but just as you’re about to make your way to the door, you feel a hand on your shoulder stop you in your tracks.
“‘Sup, bitch.” Jimin still has that weird, pitying gaze pointed at you, though his words don’t match it. “Are you okay to go home alone tonight? I can bring your dumb ass home if you want.”
You shove his hand away, ready to bite his head off when you think better of it. If Jimin drives you home, then that lowers the chances of seeing Jungkook down to pretty much zero.
“You know what? Thanks,” you grouse. Jimin smiles at you winningly, and the image of it brings a shiver down your spine. You hit him, creeped out. “Hey. Stop that, will you? You’re being really weird?”
Jimin scoffs, crossing his arms. “Me? Weird? At least I don’t look like a damn firework ready to explode just because my cringelord ex-boyfriend is singing sappy love songs outside—”
“Shut the fuck up,” you seethe, stomping on his foot. He yelps in pain and slaps your shoulder in retaliation.
“Ouch! Watch your ogre feet! My shoes are worth twice your monthly rent I’ll have you know,” he bristles. He breathes deeply, likely finding his inner calm (which you doubt exists). “But because I’m so nice, I’ll ignore your earlier transgression and blame it on your underdeveloped amygdala.”
You don’t know what’s more surprising: the fact that Jimin knew what an amygdala was or that he was forgiving you in the first place. “Whatever. Let’s finish closing up and then head out. I’m exhausted.”
You make quick work of your task and when you’re ready to head out, Jimin is already waiting by the backdoor. He’s twirling his car keys with a finger and gestures for you to follow him. As you make your way to his car in the back parking lot, you catch sight of a lone figure standing next to a beat-up pickup truck. He’s leaning against it, his hands busy tuning a battered guitar.
Your breath hitches, and you immediately feel nauseous. Of course the incident has yet to end. The night is young, after all.
Jimin accidentally slams the backdoor closed, and the noise wrenches Jungkook’s attention away from his ministrations. Immediately, his eyes lock with Jimin before finally turning to you.
Your heart skips a beat as he gazes at you, your mind racing with a hurricane of emotions. You hadn’t expected to see him again so soon, especially not after the tumultuous encounter earlier in the day. What did you say earlier? That “the chances of seeing Jungkook was down to pretty much zero”?
The chances of seeing Jungkook is low, but never zero, your mind unhelpfully supplies.
There is a long period of awkward silence. Jungkook has his mouth slightly agape, his hand subconsciously lowering his guitar to rest against his truck. To your left, Jimin’s breathing quickens slightly. You, on the other hand, are trying your best not to projectile vomit in this damned parking lot.
Jungkook is the one who decides to break the delicate silence. “Is that you…?” he calls out hesitantly.
Don’t say my name don’t say my name don’t say my name don’t say my name don’t say my—
“Y/N,” Jimin interjects. His gaze is steel cold, uncharacteristic of the carefree boy. He slings an arm around your shoulders, gently nudging you towards his car. With your view still fixed on Jungkook, you miss the way Jimin shoots the other boy with a playful smirk. “C’mon, babe. Let’s go home.”
His words startle both you and Jungkook. “Wha—? Jimin?” you splutter, flushing at his flirtatious undertone. You want to curse him out for his strange behavior, but all the shock has left you mute.
Jimin all but shoves you into the passenger seat. But just as he’s about to slam the car door, you hear Jungkook call out your name. It’s fleeting and quiet, but you heard him crystal clear.
It breaks your spirit to hear him say your name. For a moment, you feel as though you are floating.
When was the last time he called your name? And so softly, too? If you could replay that moment over and over, would you be able to catch some signs of tenderness in his voice? When you close your eyes later that night, would your dreams show you that he had been gazing at you with yearning? Was any of it true?
As Jimin starts the car and pulls away from the curb, you steal one last glance out the window, only to find Jungkook staring at you with an arm outstretched. You continue to watch him until his figure disappears into the night.
You are quietly immersed in your own thoughts, the whirlwind of emotions intensifying your persistent migraine. Unaccustomed to silence, Jimin decides to give his unsolicited two cents, as per usual.
“Geez. Didn’t know you were into the whole starving artist type. If I’d known, then maybe I’d stop trying to brag about my fortune to you,” Jimin scoffs. “If loser buskers like him impress you, then maybe I should—”
“Would you shut the fuck up for once in your fucking life!” You explode, whirling to face him with a glare. Jimin has the audacity to flinch, but he doesn’t take his eyes off the road.
“What the fuck? Why the hell are you mad at me?”
“What the hell was that back there? ‘C’mon babe.’” You mimic his voice with a sneer. “Why on earth would you do that? Now he thinks that we…”
“Why do you care what he thinks? He’s your ex, remember?” Jimin cuts you off, but you can’t even refute him. He continues, “Figured as much. And judging by how spooked you’ve looked all day, I have to assume that he was an asshole, right? Why else would you accept my offer for a ride home if you really wanted to avoid seeing him?”
You shrink under his accurate assumptions. Damn, were you really that easy to read? “I… I mean, yeah but…” You clear your throat, still feeling wronged by him. “You didn’t have to act like a weird prick in front of him!”
Without warning, the floodgates burst forth. You begin to ramble, the thoughts that have been weighing you down pouring out of you in waves. “Jungkook was my ex, yeah. But he wasn’t an asshole. On the contrary, he was really sweet. The nicest guy in my school, at least. Wouldn’t hurt a fly, that sort of person. I dated him all throughout high school and he was a great partner.”
Jimin hums skeptically. “Then why the messy break-up?”
“It wasn’t messy!” You retort defensively.
“Could’ve fooled me!” Jimin snorts. “I also frequently act like a trembling kitten when I see my exes,” he says sarcastically.
You ignore him. “The reason we broke it off was because he wanted to pursue his dreams to become a singer after high school and I wanted to do other things. It was a mutual break-up! Honestly, I’m glad that we did. Too many girls wanted him and all the unwanted attention was getting on my nerves. I was glad to find a reason to end it all,” you explain, hoping you didn’t sound as shaky as you felt. What you said was mostly true, though you left out the important bits to yourself. Mostly to save some of your dignity intact. (Truthfully, you just didn’t want to admit things you weren’t ready to face.)
“Then if you’re so glad, why do you look like you wanted to shit yourself? It ain’t adding up,” Jimin fires back.
“It’s just—” you stammer, trying to find a reason why you were so bent out of shape after seeing him. “I-I was caught off guard, I guess. I knew he was pursuing his dreams to sing and all, so I expected him to leave the country. I wasn’t expecting to see him outside where I work, of all places,” you mutter lamely. You have your head bowed, biting your lips from the nerves. Again, you weren’t totally lying.
Jimin is silent for a moment, contemplating your admission. When he looks so calm like this, it’s hard to get a read on what he’s thinking. As Jimin speeds down the highway, the street lights illuminate his face in a strange way, and for once, he looks like a stranger. His steely expression makes you nervous, for some reason.
Eventually, he asks you a question you would never have expected. “And he just let you go?”
You pause. “What do you mean?”
“I mean…” Jimin huffs, irritated. “He just up and left without a fight? If I were him, I would have…” he trails off, his jaw clenching.
You don’t know where this Jimin came from. Under the moonlight, Jimin looks livid, but that can’t be right. Jimin, mad for you? Sure, you’ve seen his anger directed towards you, but this? Everything’s gotten so complicated, and you are just about ready to succumb to sleep and hope to wake from this nightmare.
The rest of the drive to your house is silent, save for the sounds coming from passing cars. Jimin pulls up to your apartment complex, his mysterious anger finally subsiding.
Just as you’re about to reach for the car door handle, Jimin places a hand on your shoulder. “Listen, Y/N. I’ll talk to management tomorrow morning. I know the manager well enough that I can probably convince him to do something about that ex of yours. He’s busking on private property, so it should be easy to get rid of him,” Jimin says, tone serious. He swallows, and for a moment you think he looks a little nervous. “If that’s what you want, I guess.”
His kindness scares you. You want to tease him, ask him where Mr. Bitchy and his $2000 Chelsea boots had gone. Anything to make this air of severe sincerity to abate. This new Jimin feels suffocating. But instead, you nod your head stiffly.
Jimin makes a pained expression for a moment, but it’s quickly replaced by his usual playful smirk. He slaps you upside the head, laughing heartily at your stunned face.
“Get some rest, babe. I’ll see you tomorrow evening,” he chuckles, reaching over to open the door for you. You scramble out into the cold city air, taking one last look back at him through his window.
He rolls it down, leaning forward to flash a toothy grin at you. “Hey, stop with all the angst, pookie. Wouldn’t want my favorite toy to get sick from overthinking. Who else would I bother at work if not you?”
You snort, both endeared and irritated in equal measure. He’s right. Everything was going back to normal tomorrow, you’re sure of it. You flip him off with a cheeky grin before making your way to your apartment.
Everything is going to be okay. Jimin says he’ll do something about it, and for whatever reason, you feel like you can trust him on this. Surely good fortune was soon to be upon you.

Jimin had texted you while you were still sleeping:
Spoke to Manager Jeong about your little problem. He said he’ll deal with him.
You breathe a sigh of relief, your body feeling significantly lighter. Your sleep last night had been tumultuous and restless. You feel more tired than you did when you went to bed, but all your weariness fades once you read Jimin’s text.
Once you make it to work, you find that management has gotten rid of Jungkook somehow. Added with the fact that your landlord has promised to look into repairing your shower (no guarantees, but you want to stay optimistic), today has been significantly better compared to yesterday. You even catch yourself humming as you set up your workstation, a small smile gracing your lips.
Jimin has a later shift this evening, and you find that you are somewhat disappointed for once. Your overwhelming gratitude is surely the only reason, otherwise you would never admit to wanting to see him at any given time.
You are in the midst of texting Jimin about all the good news when your manager passes by your desk. You are quick to pocket your phone away from his prying eyes, ready to defend that you aren’t slacking off… but his demeanor does not reveal any ire. In fact, he looks rather pleased for once.
“Good afternoon, Mr. Jeong. What’s up?” you ask, suspicious. You instinctively fold your hands behind your back; it is a subconscious effort on your part to keep your distance from him. Something about your manager always gives you a bad feeling when he looks a little too happy.
He grins widely. “Everything is going splendidly, Ms. Y/N. In fact, I think today might just be our lucky day!”
Never during your time working here has his and your luck ever coincided. “Our lucky day?” you echo.
“Why, yes! I spoke with your lovely friend and coworker Jimin this morning,” he starts, and immediately your alarm bells ring. You don’t even bother correcting him about the ‘friend’ part like you normally would. He continues, “He gave me a brilliant idea about the busker who had been performing in front of the restaurant the past two days.”
You nod slowly, not quite understanding. “Yes… The busker has been quite… the spectacle,” you say carefully. Somehow, you know calling Jungkook a ‘nuisance’ would have been the wrong choice in this instance.
Manager Jeong beams. “Exactly! You must have noticed the amount of people we served yesterday despite being a Monday. Additionally, almost all of those new customers requested outdoor seating no less!”
You feel the world tilt on its axis. What is he on abou—?
“What are you talking about?” you exhale.
“Don’t you think it would be even better for business if we got that busker to perform inside the restaurant? Why, it’s a brilliant idea and I don’t know why I didn’t think of it first! Our live band has always been missing something special, and perhaps a vocal accompaniment is the exact answer to our problem! Think about it, the atmosphere would be…”
Manager Jeong continues to prattle animatedly about his plans to your unhearing ears. There must be static or cotton plugging your head because you cannot possibly understand anything he is saying. Jungkook? Inside? Performing at your restaurant? But Jimin said he had spoken to the manager about getting Jungkook away from you! None of this makes sense.
“That makes no sense,” you verbalize, unknowingly cutting Manager Jeong from his monologue. He halts in surprise, as if now just realizing you were standing there (much less capable of interrupting or disagreeing with him). When he snaps out of it, you sense that familiarly sinister aura emerging from him in waves. You belatedly realize he must have mistaken your outburst as antagonistic.
“Well, Ms. Y/N. Whether it makes sense or not, we have hired Mr. Jeon to perform live at the bar stage for the next four weeknights. If, for some unknowable reason, I am incorrect,” he pauses to emphasize his words, “then his services will be promptly terminated. However, judging by his popularity from simply standing out in the cold and singing silly love songs, I am sure that worry is unwarranted.”
Behind you, the telltale sound of the main door swinging open catches you even more off guard. You do not even have the chance to turn to face the newcomer, only managing to register the gust of cold wind that accompanies their entry.
And so, you hear him before you see him.
“Hello?” Jeon Jungkook greets quietly.
Even without turning, you can imagine how he looks, how he stands, how he feels, how he tastes—
Manager Jeong claps his hands gleefully. “Splendid timing! Speak of the devil…” The older man nearly skips towards Jungkook like a youthful school girl, accompanied by his uncharacteristic squeals of excitement.
You can feel his gaze on you, almost tangibly. With nothing but your shreds of dignity left intact, you force yourself to face him.
He’s still so tall, is all your mind can helpfully supply as you stand feet away from your high school sweetheart for the first time in two years. He’s still wearing the same bucket hat from the night before, semi-shielding him from view. Despite that, you catch a small flash of white graze his bottom lip as he chews the soft flesh nervously.
“Hi, Y/N.” He addresses you directly, completely overlooking your manager without a single glance. Despite his hat, he still has his eyes lasered on you, as if not quite believing you were there. You hate how his attention makes you shiver all the same.
Even though he ignored your manager (which would have been a major dispute had you done the same), Jungkook still receives a friendly handshake in return. “Mr. Jeon! I’m surprised you know Ms. Y/N, though I’m sure you must have spoken with her when she was escorting guests to the outdoor seating the other day.”
You had actually gotten your co-hostess to seat all the outdoor seatings yesterday, but you weren’t going to mention that.
Manager Jeong claps him on the back, inadvertently causing Jungkook to stumble forward closer to you. He looks up at you then, eyes bugging out of their sockets like a rabbit caught in a bear trap. You stagger backwards in turn, barely concealing the anxiety on your face. Oh fucking hell.
Your manager is none the wiser, of course. “Well, this makes my job much easier! Since you’re both acquainted, I’ll let Y/N show you the ropes. The band doesn’t start their set until later in the evening, but you’re free to take a look at the stage and other parts of our facility in the meantime,” he says, chuffed. Meanwhile, Jungkook looks like he’s been shot by a freeze ray.
Then, your manager points a sharper gaze at you. “Ms. Y/N, treat our super star well. I know you won’t disappoint me.”
Fucking superstar… You can only nod in defeat. “Y-Yes, sir…” you whisper, clenching your uniform with your fists. It is the only way to keep them from shaking like a leaf. You watch as his figure disappears behind his office door, leaving you to fend for yourself. Powerless, you train your gaze to the floor, unwilling to meet Jungkook’s eyes.
But the nerves are taking control of your body, screaming at you to eject, eject, eject!
“Sorry, I have to go to the toilet,” you splutter quickly, almost tripping over yourself on the way to the restroom. You dimly wonder if Jungkook is going to think you’re leaving to throw up, but you can’t find any self-respect left to care. All you need is air and space to breathe—preferably away from him.
You slam open the stall, hardly checking to see if anyone else is around before locking the door shut. You sit on the toilet, plant your face between your knees, and scream.
Should you go home and use sickness as an excuse? But even if you did, you still had shifts every weeknight. You would have to see him eventually. You can pray all you want that Jungkook will be fired by the end of the week, but even your delusional mind can never fathom the idea that anyone would willingly want to send Jeon Jungkook away. Plus, you remember that the regular band that plays at the restaurant has been wanting to get a singer to accompany them for ages, and you know just how damn affable he can be. They are going to love him, and you hate him for that.
It is clear to you that there is no other option:
You pull out your phone to quickly open up Indeed on your browser, frantically hunting for any openings that might fit your measly qualifications. However, you have to pause in your search to deliberate. Wouldn’t it be better to move out of the country? You had been so naive to think that moving cities was enough distance between you and Jungkook—going across the ocean is the obvious answer. Should you start up your Duolingo lessons again and hope that you can somehow survive in a different continent with only a few dollars to your name?
You shut your phone in despair. Whether or not your plans of escape are feasible or not, in the short term, you are stuck with having to suck it up and just learn to ignore your ex-boyfriend’s presence. Surely you can force out a fake smile or two, especially with how much practice you’ve gotten after working with unbearably entitled customers.
Taking a step outside of the restroom stall, you head to the sink to splash some cold on your face. You stare at the mirror, confronted by a girl who looks two seconds away from having a Netflix Original-esque meltdown. You rake your fingers through your hair, doing your best to look like you aren’t about to rush into incoming traffic. To no one's surprise, it doesn't work.
“Okay, I got this. Just pretend like he’s just some guy, because at the end of the day, he is just some guy,” you mutter to your reflection. She looks back at you unconvinced. “He may have broken my heart into little bite size pieces, but who cares! HE’S JUST A GUY!” You repeat the phrase over and over again like a lunatic, in a desperate attempt to cognitively alter your brain chemistry.
At that moment, one of the other stalls in the restroom creaks open, and a girl you recognize who works as one of the dishwashers walks out. You both have a silent eye conversation as she quietly studies your crazed expression and crumpled work uniform.
Eventually, she awkwardly clears her throat, pointing to the only sink in the restroom. “Uh, sorry to hear about your, uh, guy problem. Could I use the sink please?”
You hastily back away, allowing her to take your spot. You don’t even have the energy to apologize for your spectacle, just bowing sheepishly to her before making your way back to the main hall. If she rats you out to the rest of your coworkers, then that gives you another reason to move out of the country. Maybe you should consider a name change while you’re at it.
When you exit the restroom, you half expect Jungkook to be waiting for you by the door, but find that he isn’t anywhere nearby. He isn’t by your hostess station either, and you thank your lucky stars for once. Even if your manager had asked you to show him around, you’re sure that Jungkook can find his way around just fine. Plus, the stage is at the corner of the restaurant and is sufficiently far enough that you wouldn’t have to make eye contact with him if you were careful.
You don’t know which greater entity has been messing with your sanity these past few days, but you hope that they can show you mercy just once—a brief reprieve, if anything.
You clasp your hands in prayer. I’ll eat more vegetables, I’ll remember to floss, I’ll call my parents from time to time… Just please let me survive tonight.
“Remember, Y/N… He’s just some guy,” you reiterate through gritted teeth. If a passing coworker happens to overhear your demented chanting, then you pay them no mind.
You walk towards the entrance, flipping the sign to open. You feel like a video game character when you glance at the clock, which signals the start of your shift. You can imagine the red bold text hovering above your head: 8 more hours until freedom.
This is just like playing Five Nights at Freddy’s, except you’ve only watched the movie and you suspect your life is probably worse than whatever Josh Hutcherson had to survive through.
You take a couple heaving breaths to brace yourself for what will be the longest eight hours of your life. You’ll show Jungkook just how well-adjusted and mature you’ve become. You are a professional, and not even a boy with angelic vocals will make you crumble. After all, what’s the worst he can do?
xxx
He could, in fact, do a lot worse than you thought.
“I have many regrets being born at all,” you mutter bleakly, three hours into your shift.
Jungkook had started singing only an hour ago, so you had been filled with false confidence at first when the restaurant was filled with nothing but ambient chatter and soothing jazz music. You felt more and more confident as the minutes ticked by and your anxiety slowly melted away. You even forgot that he was somewhere in the back, likely warming up or whatever it is that singers did before a performance.
However, your brief moment of courage shatters almost immediately when Jungkook finally takes the stage.
At first, you did your best to tune out his voice, but it’s especially hard when whoever was in charge of the sound system decided to crank his volume to an excruciating level. You wanted desperately to grab some napkins and shove them in your ears, but you suspected that your customers (and manager) would be unappreciative of that gesture. And so there you lay, forced to wallow in Jungkook’s melodious singing like a criminal strapped to an electric chair.
But how much more pleasant an electric chair would be! Why on earth was Jungkook so adamant to sing sad love songs the entire time? Why couldn’t he be like his other singing contemporaries, who loved to write songs about getting bitches and making money? At the very least, even if he wasn’t quite a platinum selling artist just yet, surely he was constantly sharing beds with anyone he pleases? Couldn’t he sing about that?!
(In the back of your mind, you wonder if it would be less painful to learn that Jungkook has slept with multiple people… Because then, it would mean that he had moved on while you stood alone on your island, stranded and yearning.)
You didn’t want to think too deeply about his lyrics. However, you're only human. So when your mind barrier failed and you caught snippets of his singing, you noticed a pattern. There was always a girl in his songs. She was omnipresent, and Jungkook was always pleading for her. Begging and aching and wanting. But most all… he was always repenting. In every song, he always whispered a pious apology.
You feared what would happen if you turned around in those moments of weakness. You were terrified of admitting something, of letting words spill that had been trapped in your throat for the better part of two years.
Lucky for you, salvation comes in the form of one Park Jimin. Though, can you even count him as your savior when he had also inadvertently caused your demise?
Jimin doesn’t even have a shift today, so you’re more than surprised when his bright blonde head stumbles through the restaurant doors. His expensive coat is askew and his signature designer shades are nowhere to be found. He is panic incarnate—an expression you have never seen on his face before.
“Holy fuck,” he greets, his chest heaving as he struggles to catch his breath. His profanity startles the elderly couple waiting to be seated, their glares menacingly sharp. To his credit, Jimin doesn’t even seem phased.
In lieu of an answer, you gesture vaguely behind you. You can imagine how dejected you must look. “Holy fuck indeed,” you sigh.
It takes a moment for Jimin to regain his bearings. He straightens up and pats down his coat, but his hair is still tousled by the wind. If not for the fact that he has a car, you might have thought he had run all the way here.
“I am so sorry. I didn’t know this was going to happen,” he starts, genuinely remorseful. “I texted Manager Jeong this morning and he said he’d get your ex to leave, but I didn’t think he’d offer the damn bastard a job!”
“Mind your language, Park. I’m still at work,” you scold. You try your best to ignore the scrutinizing gaze of the elderly couple. You lower your voice. “And don’t apologize. I know you’re an asshole, but I doubt you’d actually prey on my downfall like this. I know you’re not into public humiliation.”
Jimin brightens slightly at your joke, but he still looks like a guilty puppy who'd been caught shitting on the carpet. “Yeah, well. I happen to enjoy tormenting you and I won’t let some upstart Charlie Puth wannabe ruin your life. That’s my job.”
You smile wryly at him. “Well, that’s too bad. Jungkook’s been singing for a few hours now and I’m pretty sure Manager Jeong is going to keep him long-term. He might have broken my heart, but damn does he have vocals. I'm sure you'll have plenty competition when it comes to 'who can make Y/N's life feel like hell.'”
Jimin doesn't smile back, but instead studies your face for a moment. Then:
“Do you think if I offer to suck Manager Jeong off, he’ll fire him?”
“What the fuck?” You nearly yell out in surprise, your jaw dropping to the floor. Judging by his serious scowl, you know he's actually considering it. By now, the elderly couple waiting to be seated have left the premises.
Jimin continues, unperturbed. “I know he secretly wants me, based on how his wife seems to have a personal vendetta against me. He definitely wants a taste of my bus—.”
“Stop, I get it!” You wave your hands to make him shut up, heat rising up your cheeks. “Never say that string of words to me ever again. You have just inflicted ten years of suffering onto my poor brain.”
“Hey, I’m just offering solutions here!” Jimin pouts.
You stare at him, unimpressed. “Save it. You tried solving my problems already, so let’s just accept the fact that there’s nothing else for me to do but to suck it up. It’s time for me to put on my big girl pants for a change.”
“I mean, I could do all the sucking instead, but you’re being a little bitch about it,” Jimin mumbles. He’s lucky you didn’t hear him this time, lest you give him something to really whine about.
“Anyway, I guess this is my life now. Nothing to do except hope that he never tries to interact with me or I can find another job,” you shrug.
Over your shoulder, Jimin fixes Jungkook with an icy glare that is cold enough to give you the shivers. For the first time that entire night, you hazard a glance back at the stage, finding that Jungkook is already looking back at you.
You whip your head back forward, perspiration forming down your back. For fuck’s sake, this guy.
“Well, let me know if he tries anything. I’ll beat that little freak into the floor if he tries so much as breathing the same air as you.” Jimin huffs, puffing up his chest with false bravado. You can’t help but laugh at his empty threat, knowing that Jungkook could probably bench press Jimin without breaking a sweat. Jimin's muscles are only for aesthetics, after all.
“Don’t worry, he hasn’t actually spoken to me actually. He can keep singing his sad little love songs, I really don’t mind,” you say, like a liar. Jimin snorts, wholly unconvinced.
“Well, if you need me, I’m heading to the bar to grab a drink so I can stare at your ex uncomfortably until he leaves. See you!” Jimin bids you farewell with a cheery grin as he skips a little too happily inside the restaurant.
Why'd you have to befriend the largest lunatic in the city? You massage your forehead with a groan, willing away your growing headache.
The rest of the night trickles away like molasses. Jungkook continues to sing his heart out, save for an hour intermission where he presumably takes a short break. In his absence, you hear Jimin guffaw loudly, his laughter too sharp to be considered happy. You faintly hear Jungkook shy stutters in response, and you momentarily consider running in to interrupt.
Why? Did you want to save Jungkook from Jimin’s unnecessary harassment? It’s not like Jimin is doing it out nowhere, he was just trying to be… a good friend?
You pause to ponder. As much as you hate to admit it, you know why you want to help Jungkook. But Jimin on the other hand? Why did he want to help you? Questions begin flowing through your head like a whirlwind, and your nausea increases. God, when was your next therapy appointment again?
You save those questions for another day. As you look at your watch, there are only thirty minutes left until two in the morning. You tap your foot impatiently, smiling curtly at departing customers as the restaurant slowly emptied. As they left, you overhear some of your regulars giggling amongst themselves, whispering about the cute new singer and his charming demeanor.
The last nail on your coffin has been hammered. Yeah, Jungkook isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
With the restaurant closing soon, it sounds like Jungkook is ready to end his set as well.
Throughout the night, Jungkook rarely made a point to speak. The only time he didn’t sing was when he quietly introduced the title of his next song and the band swiftly began the first opening notes. For his last song, however, Jungkook decided to give a little more backstory for his final song.
“Hello, everyone. Thank you so much for listening to me for the night,” Jungkook says with a soft voice, his tone awfully shy despite his powerful belting throughout the evening. The few customers left give him a warm round of applause, and you hear the familiar sound of his timid giggles spill from the restaurant speakers.
“This will be my final song for the night. Most of the songs I sang today were covers, but this one is an original. I…” He hesitates for a moment, and something pulls you to turn despite the alarm bells ringing in your ears. You face him, and just like earlier in the evening, he is already looking back at you.
This time, you don’t look away; he does. His eyes flit to the ceiling, and he licks his lips from nerves. “I… I wrote this song a long while ago. I’ve never sang it in public before and I never thought it would ever see the light of day. Until, well…”
He stops again. This time, he gestures to the guitarist in the band, silently asking to borrow it. With a guitar in hand, he smiles a little more confidently at the small crowd of people. He begins strumming the first few notes, and your heart stops. “I hope everyone had a pleasant evening. Get home safe and have a great rest of your week. My name is Jungkook, and this last song is called…”
Before he can sing the first line of his song, you make a break for it.
You slam the restaurant doors open, and the stinging cold air immediately pierces their fangs into your skin. Your coat is still inside, but you can’t bring yourself to reenter. You take a long breath, the chill barely registering in your mind with how loudly your heart is pounding in your ears.
Hearing the opening to that song was enough to bring you back in time, three years ago:
You are in his childhood bedroom, his walls littered with concert posters and his floor a mess with unfolded laundry and guitar picks. The afternoon sun is streaming through his windows, bathing him in gold. You have an exam the next day and he has cram school to go to, but you’ve both chucked your books somewhere on his desk, left forgotten.
He has his eyes closed, concentrated. You’re both on his small twin bed, squished together side by side and thighs touching. You have your head on his shoulder and he has his hands on his guitar. He strums a few chords experimentally and sings a melody that only the two of you know.
(Not anymore.)
“Are you writing a new song?” you ask, voice a little scratchy. Neither of you had spoken for the past few hours, just basking in the setting sun and Jungkook’s indistinct strumming. But now, his chords sound more sure, more certain of something.
“Yeah, I just thought of it,” he hums. He opens his eyes a smidge, a smitten smile on his lips. You mirror him.
“What’s it about this time?”
His brows furrow. “I’ve been trying to write about other stuff, you know? Namjoon-hyung tells me it’s important that songs have meaning and impact.” He pauses in his strumming, looking a little conflicted. “And I get what he means. Art is all about saying something, but… I can’t help that there’s only one thing I ever want to talk about. Is that so wrong?”
You chuckle, understanding what he means. You nudge your head against his cheek, grinning from ear to ear. The fluttering in your chest has become routine to you at this point, but he somehow always knows how to increase it tenfold. “God, you’re such a sweet talker. Really, Koo. There’s no need to serenade with love songs—I’m already yours.”
He looks back at you, brimming with tender affection. “I know,” he responds. Then, he takes a pen from his bedside table, and begins writing.
During those years of dating him, you always thought that If he was a waterfall, then you were a teaspoon. You desperately tried to be enough for him, but you’re barely able to fathom the depth of his devotion. Everything about him was excessive, and you could seldom understand how he managed to contain himself. He was born to share himself, to tear bits of his soul so that the world may understand him, love him. His songs were a testament that he was trying to do that, and you always felt so lucky to be able to receive him, wholly and fully.
How cruel was it that Jungkook uses that same song to rip open the barely healed scab on your heart, leaving you bare and stinging and raw all over again.
You have no idea how long you've stood there in the cold. It must have been barely a few minutes when Jimin finds his way to you. He wordlessly shrugs his coat off and places it on your shoulders, but you make no move to acknowledge him.
You hope your silence is enough for Jimin to infer that you are not in a conversational mood, but he’s nothing if not impatient. He forcibly pulls you to face him, his hands warm even through your clothing.
“Hey, you good? Did something happen?” He asks with barely concealed irritation, but it’s not directed at you. Still, you flinch at his scathing tone, shrinking in on yourself. In your daze, you vaguely notice his resemblance to an angry baby chick.
“It’s nothing. Go back inside, I’ll be right there,” you mumble lamely, weakly pushing him back towards the restaurant. Jimin does not budge, instead leveling you with a hard stare. This time, you’re sure his irritation is for you.
“You idiot, you literally ran out like someone was out to get you. Of course it’s not nothing,” he grouses.
You sigh tiredly, shaking your head at him. “We can talk later. It’s almost closing time and I just want to go home and sleep.”
Before Jimin can argue further, the door to the restaurant opens once more, but it isn’t a leaving customer.
“What the fuck? What are you doing out here?” Jimin all but shouts at Jungkook. He holds up an accusatory finger at him and uses his other hand to nudge you behind him as if to shield you.
Jungkook winces, instinctively stepping back. Despite being a few inches taller than Jimin, Jungkook’s timidness makes him look smaller. “I… I was just worried about her—”
“Don’t you have a song to finish in there? Talk about professional,” Jimin spits out. Jimin maneuvers you so that Jungkook can’t see you, but you manage to catch sight of how his gaze follows you unfailingly.
“I finished up my set. It’s closing time.” Jungkook responds coolly. He’s still a little quiet, but you can sense some of his natural composure rising to the surface. When he needs to be, Jungkook has been known to stand his ground—usually when it comes to matters involving you.
At this time of the night and after hours of mental torture, the last thing you need is to watch your two worst nightmares duke it out in front of your work establishment. You are beyond exhausted, and you hardly have the fortitude to withstand another minute of their voices ringing in your ears.
Your eyes well up with tears of frustration, causing the two boys to freeze up in panic. You don’t give them the chance to fuss over you; instead, you haphazardly wipe your cheeks before roughly pushing them back towards the restaurant.
“Get back to work, you idiots.” Your voice sounds warbled even to your own ears, but you push past your overwhelming emotions in favor of getting back inside to close up. Hell, you might even call in sick tomorrow, just so you can cry pathetically into your bowl of cereal in solitude.
“I’m not even on the clock today!” Jimin complains faintly, but you only push him harder.
When you all reenter, you walk back to your desk and pointedly ignore the two of them until they awkwardly float away from your orbit. Despite the distance they give you, their gazes are still fixed plainly on you and they feel like knives digging into your back.
Eventually, all the final customers of the day take their leave, and your remaining coworkers start dimming the lights and bidding their goodbyes. From the corner of your eye, you see Jungkook bowing respectfully to the band, who were giving him friendly pats on the back for a job well done. Jimin walks toward you, his car keys dangling from his left pinky.
“No thanks. I’ll take the bus home today,” you declare before he can offer a ride. Jimin opens his mouth like a goldfish, flapping his lips dumbly as he stares at you in shock. You have no idea why he’s so surprised, given how you’ve been making it obvious that you need some space.
He looks like he wants to argue again, but thinks better of it. A singular moment of restraint from Park Jimin, which is an act you once thought impossible. Maybe he does care about you more than you thought.
He stiffly nods at you, shoving his hands and keys into his pockets. He still has a frown on his face when he tells you to text him when you get home. You flip him off with a shaky smirk in response, a feeble attempt to bring some levity back to your now tense relationship. It works a little, and Jimin brightens up significantly. How simple-minded of him.
With a flippant wave, you leave work and head towards your bus stop. At this hour of the night, the streets are mostly dim, save for some street lamps and bars that stay open longer than your restaurant. There are always some people milling about, enough that you never feel too on edge about how late it is. Still, your bus stop is often empty, leaving you to mull over your thoughts in peace.
You are in the midst of jamming your earbuds into your ear when a presence makes itself known beside you.
Is it possible to go through the five stages of grief in under a second? You suppose not, but it’s hard to tell what sort of emotions swim through you when you come face to face with Jeon Jungkook again.
“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me,” you mutter under your breath. You pause the song playing on your phone to glare at him with as much venom as you can muster.
Jungkook holds up his hands in surrender, doe eyes wide like prey. “I-I’m heading home too! I’m not following you, I swear!”
You groan internally. Figures that you and Jungkook take the same bus home. But hold on— “Don’t you have a car? I remember you were parked near the restaurant the other night,” you note, squinting at him.
Jungkook looks sheepish as he rubs the back of his neck. “Oh, yeah. That car was my hyung’s. He lets me borrow it sometimes, but he needed it tonight.”
“Sure…” You level him with a skeptical frown. You remember his hyung, but don’t recall him ever owning a car. You aren’t even sure that his Namjoon-hyung is allowed by the country to drive a car, much less own one.
He could be lying, but you don’t want to give him an excuse to continue any conversation. So, you busy yourself with your phone and keep your head bowed away from him.
When the bus arrives, Jungkook makes it a point to sit a few rows behind you. Thankfully, he has a better understanding of social cues than a certain Park that you know. He leaves you alone, but your entire body still feels like a rope pulled taut. You have to convince yourself not to look behind you, your morbid curiosity scratching your insides raw.
You are in the home stretch now, and it’ll only be a few more minutes before you get to your stop and make your way to your safe haven. Hell resumes the next day and the next, but at the very least you’ll have your home to yourself. No one could take that away from you.
Again, this is where you learn that tempting fate is never a good idea.
When you exit the bus at your stop, you can hear his footsteps following you. It’s hard not to notice, especially when his large and distracting boots make such a distinct racket that makes him so Jungkook.
You hasten your pace towards your apartment complex, your shoulders hunched and hands shoved into your coat pockets in an attempt to hinder the bile rising from your stomach. He had promised that he wasn’t following you, but that proclamation seems to be standing on feeble legs with how long he’s been on your tail now.
Your street is filled with rows of low-rise apartment buildings, so you hope that if anything happens, you can yell as loud as you can and alert some compassionate neighbor to come to your aid. (Not that you think he would ever physically harm you, but… You can’t say the same about your mental state.)
Your home is just two buildings away from where you are, but Jungkook still seems determined to follow you to the end. You all but skip the remaining feet to your apartment entrance, your breath coming out in puffs as you finally muster up the courage to face your supposed stalker and give him a piece of your mind.
“If this is some convoluted way for you to find out where I live, then you aren’t being very subtle about it,” you say, your chin held up high despite the growing urge to vomit pathetically in front of your ex-boyfriend. You have your hand rested on the doorknob, just a moment’s notice away from bolting into your house if the need for a quick getaway arises.
To your surprise, Jungkook wasn’t following you as closely as you expected. He had stopped trailing you about two buildings down, his own hand poised on the door with a look of genuine shock.
You both stand there, staring at each other as mutual understanding dawns on the two of you.
Everyday, the universe learns of more creative ways to be cruel.
“Oh…” Jungkook’s voice falters. He looks simultaneously frightened and amazed, as if he too finds this entire situation unbelievably harsh. He swallows thickly, looking at you and back to his door in quick succession. “Well… This is a strange coincidence,” he murmurs.
You want to believe that this was his entire fault, that Jungkook had somehow managed to track you down to haunt you for the rest of your days. You want to believe that he’s a crazed stalker who is willing to find where you work and live so that every hour of your wretched life is filled with nothing but reminders of what-could-have-beens. You just want someone to blame instead of just the cosmos—you want someone tangible to hate so that your suffering can be given some sort of identity. You want to give your mourning and hurt a name so that you can learn how to heal.
You want to believe all of that, but it’s hard to do so when Jungkook looks so incredibly uncomfortable, as if he’d rather melt into the shadows and never be seen again.
In all your memories, you have never seen Jungkook look so small.
You heave a big sigh, your fingers grasping the door knob so tightly that you half-expect it to be dented from the force. You linger for a moment, your mouth opening but nothing spills out.
What is there to say? What do you say to an ex-boyfriend that you haven’t seen in two years, who is suddenly so deeply entwined in your life once more? Do you tell him goodnight? Tell him to stay away? Tell him to come home with you?
Jungkook looks equally as conflicted. His lips are pursed tight with words left unsaid. You aren’t sure whether you want to punch the confession out of his mouth or seal them up forever. It feels like eons before he finally breaks the silence with a mirthless laugh.
“I… I just wanted to say—back at the restaurant. When I sang that last song,” Jungkook begins, and his voice feels loud because of how empty the streets are. For a moment, you are reminded of a cathedral you once visited during a vacation, how sacred silence can be. The world holds its breath, waiting for him to speak.
“I meant it all. Every word. Every lyric. I never stopped…”
He trails off, shrugging his shoulders. He stares at you helplessly, but you don’t know what to say. You don’t want to listen any more, but your feet are planted to the ground. You’re frozen like a deer in headlights, forced to brace against him as he crashes into you.
He continues, “And when we broke up back then… I never wanted that to happen. You broke it off before we could even try something—and I hated how I didn’t fight for you harder. I let you misunderstand me because I was afraid you wouldn’t want to stick around if I didn’t succeed. I convinced myself that I was holding you down, but I never gave you—us—a chance. I never stopped regretting it since.”
“Me? Break up with you?” You echo incredulously. That statement is enough to break you from your trance, the telltale signs of indignation rising up your chest. “How dare you suggest—Me? You were the one who broke up with me, asshole! You were the one who broke my heart and decided to up and leave to god knows where! Only to miraculously respawn right next to me, groveling at my feet with sad love songs as if that’s enough for me to forgive and forget? Fucking entitled bastard,” you seethe.
Somehow, Jungkook manages to shrink more, like a bunny with his tail tucked between his legs. “Yes, you’re right that I broke your heart but… When I told you I was moving away to try and become a singer, it was always with the intention of staying together. I know it would have been difficult, but I wanted you to be with me through thick and thin. But when you misunderstood and took it as a break up, I let you go because, well… I was scared that it would happen eventually. Who wants to date a broke busking fool anyway?”
He laughs, but it sounds watery. He sniffles, and you hope it's only because of the cold. “I tried looking for you, but you blocked me everywhere and no one from back home seemed to know where you went. So I just accepted that we’d never see each other again… Until a few days ago, that is.”
A misunderstanding? Is that what everything boils down to? Years of trying to build yourself back up again, relearning what it means to be happy—all the fallen domino pieces in your life trailing back to a single moment in time? All because Jungkook was scared that you didn't love him enough?
You’ve never felt angrier in your life. You fear what you might say if you continue to stand outside there, face to face with the singular person strong enough to whittle you down to the bone. Jeon Jungkook is all soft smiles and sweet songs, but how come he’s always able to knock you off your axis? Few people on this earth can stitch you up and break you down in equal measure, but somehow, Jungkook manages to do all that and more.
Then, comes the guilt. Had it been all your fault? That you hadn't returned his love in equal measure? Had you secretly given up on the hope of being on his level? Always looking down on yourself: unable to move past your insecurities. Were you terrified of being his side piece, his girlfriend, forever?
Who are you, even? And where do you stand?
(Beside him, is what you want to answer. You don't know if that's the right choice.)
You can’t bear to look at him, least of all answer him. Without another word, you shove your house key into the door before slamming it shut despite the late hour. If you awaken any neighbors, you’ll apologize later. For now, all you require is sleep and hope that this has been all a terrible nightmare.

Reality is a bitter pill to swallow.
Jeon Jungkook continues to sing at the restaurant, and after only two days of repeat stellar performances, your manager decides to promote him as the official vocalist for the band. It hurts to admit that you're not the least bit surprised; you might have a hard time looking at him, but you can never deny his talent.
His song list has added a larger variety of genres ever since his first performance. That is to say, he isn’t always singing about lost loves and tragic couples every night. Perhaps it is due to some requests from customers or his other bandmates, but it doesn’t stop him from sprinkling one or two love songs into the mix.
He doesn’t sing any original songs ever again. That, at least, is a small mercy. He doesn’t make any moves to speak with you either, despite the daily awkward trips back home after the end of your shifts. Whether that’s because he’s given up on you (again), or he’s waiting for you to make the first move, you don’t know. Frankly, you don’t think you have the energy (nor courage) to do anything about it.
It’s a few weeks after Jungkook’s first performance at the restaurant, and closing time is approaching. You appreciate Friday nights the most because it means you’ll have two consecutive days to relax and avoid your problems. It’s also the busiest night of the week, when white-collar workers decide to drink and eat for as long as the night allows them. Busier nights mean more distractions, and you’re willing to deal with twenty Karens over one Jungkook.
During nights like these, your manager occasionally asks you to fulfill some waitress duties when there aren’t enough hands on deck. Normally you’d hate it, but earning the extra tips is enough to keep your grumbling to a minimum To this day, your landlord has yet to do anything about your broken shower, and you’ve finally conceded to the fact that you’ll have to be the one to do something about it.
As you inform the customers in your area that the last call for orders is approaching, you sneak a glance at the bar to see Jimin dutifully performing his job. That is to say, he’s flirting up a storm, getting women and men alike to blush from head to toe as he serves their drinks with a salacious smirk.
What a swindler, you think to yourself, snorting when he makes eye contact with you. He gives you a cheeky salute, mouthing something as he gestures to the back door.
Despite the semi-fight the two of you had all those weeks ago, Jimin was never one to argue about the same topic two days in a row. When you saw him the next day after your confrontation with Jungkook, Jimin was back to all smiles. You still catch him sending death glares towards Jungkook on most nights, but he doesn’t bring up the matter with you anymore. For that reason, you’ve gratefully settled back into your weird, banterful friendship with him. Even if there’s still a lingering tension between the two of you that you refuse to acknowledge.
You nod thankfully back at him, excited to go to his house and take a much needed shower. At this point, going to his house has become second nature to you, and it gives you an excuse to not see Jungkook at your regular bus stop every day. You have half a mind to never fix your shower for that reason, but of course there is still the problem of having to deal with Jimin every time you need to bathe. You hardly consider yourself an impatient person, but Jimin likes to toe the line far more often than necessary.
You’re down to your last two tables before you can close up shop when your manager suddenly barrels right into your path. You nearly drop your tray of dirty dishes to the floor, holding in a loud yelp as your suspiciously stern-faced manager halts you in place.
“Ms. Y/N, may I have a word with you for a moment? It’s regarding your paycheck for the month,” he barks, lips downturned. He appears disgruntled about something, and it sends a worried shiver down your spine. And here you thought Fridays are meant to be fun. He doesn’t wait for you to reply before he stalks back to his office, an unspoken command for you to follow.
You unload your dishes in the kitchen before making your way to his office. The small, dark room is cramped with overflowing file folders and coupons from multiple take-out places. You accidentally step on a stack of papers, and upon further inspection, seem to be a pile of applications for new hires. You distinctly remember complaining to him months prior about being understaffed and him replying that no inquiries were coming in.
As you approach, your manager shuffles through your coworkers pay stubs, and you notice yours and Jungkook’s on top of the piles.
Manager Jeong clears his throat. “Well, Y/N. It seems to be your lucky day. As you know, we split the tips based on your hours and what sort of duties you fulfill. With the new hire we have as our in-house singer, we’ve had to split it one way more to accommodate his arrival. However, he has recently requested to me that his portion be reallocated… to you, Ms. Y/N.”
Your jaw drops immediately. “I-I don’t understand, Manager Jeong,” you sputter.
Manager Jeong snorts, bemused by your reaction. “Don’t understand? Well, I suppose you’ll have to ask Mr. Jeon if you want his reasoning. Regardless, since we normally deposit your salary straight to your bank account, would it be alright if I hand you his tips in cash for now? He only informed me about his request an hour ago, and the accountant has already clocked out for the week.”
All you can do is nod dumbly back at him. With a huff, your manager presses a white envelope into your hands before promptly ushering you out of his office. “Well, that's settled. Out you go! Have a good weekend, Ms. Y/N. Don’t forget to lock the register before you leave!” He calls out before slamming his door in your face.
It takes you a moment to reanimate back to life. You stare at the white envelope for a long while, unable to fathom the scribbled out name of Jeon Jungkook replaced with your own name. Then, you crumple it into your fist before stomping over to where Jungkook and the rest of the band are in the middle of packing it up for the night.
Jungkook looks up from his guitar case when he senses you fast approaching. For a fleeting second, a smile graces his handsome face before it’s smacked away by your crumpled envelope.
“Keep your fucking cash, Jungkook. What the hell is your problem?” You fume, cheeks heating from agitation. Jungkook splutters for a moment, prying the envelope away from his face and looking at it in bewilderment. When he sees it clearly, recognition dawns on his face, followed by guilt.
“It’s just… my way of saying sorry, I guess.” He answers you meekly, neck flushing red in embarrassment. Behind him, the rest of the band grow silent at the scene before them, and you debate on telling them to mind their own business when they quicken their pace to leave.
“Well, keep your apology to yourself. There’s nothing to apologize for,” you correct him with a frown. To offer an apology is to offer accountability. You aren’t sure if you’re ready to hear him say that.
“No, it’s a sorry for… using you, I suppose.”
“Using me?” You repeat, dumbfounded. “For what?”
Jungkook smiles wryly back at you. “For inspiration?” he clarifies. For being the reason I can sing? He leaves that part unsaid, but you can almost imagine him saying it.
You feel heat rising to your cheeks again, but this time you aren’t quite sure if it’s from embarrassment, anger… or something else.
Unable to conjure up a response to his simple confession, you stomp away from him with a pounding heart and shaking hands. You continue the rest of your closing shift routine instinctually, your body moving on autopilot as Jungkook’s words continue to ring inside your head. When all is said and done, Jimin makes his way to your station with a questioning stare, but you wave him off in favor of stomping ahead of him to the parking lot.
In his car, Jimin rattles off about his latest exploits and purchases, his grating voice a comfort for once. You hum noncommittally during his stories when appropriate, but you suppose your usual indifference feels different, even to Jimin's untrained ears.
At his house, you drift to his bathroom immediately. You already have a shirt button undone by the time you get a handle on the door when Jimin’s hand stops you in place. You can feel his warmth emanating against your back as he slowly pulls the bathroom door close. With a tired sigh, you reluctantly turn to face him and find him standing closer than you expected.
He has an arm resting above your head, effectively caging you. You feel your shoulders sag. Damn, here comes another confrontation. Why can’t everyone just leave you alone?!
“Talk to me,” he says. No, he demands.
You push him away weakly, but he hardly budges. “Nothing to talk about,” you lie. Had you no filter, you’d be word vomiting all over the place ages ago.
Jimin groans, rolling his eyes in exasperation. “Enough with the emotional constipation. I’m here to listen, alright? No teasing or anything, I’m all ears and maybe a shoulder to cry on. Just don’t stain my Chanel top too bad,” he jokes.
You puff out a short breath—a sorry excuse for a laugh. “Don’t you get it? I don’t want to talk about it, and that’s that.”
“It’ll make you feel a lot better, though,” he offers.
You scoff. “What makes you think that? What if I just want to ignore all my problems forever and never grow from it? Is that so bad?”
Jimin pushes himself away from you, raising his hands in mock defeat. “You’re so fucking annoying. Can you stop running away from your problems and talk to me? Hell, talk to Jungkook for all I care! Just stop being a doormat and speak your mind for once in your damn life!”
“What are you, my therapist?” You brush past him, shower all but forgotten. You begin toeing your shoes back on, ready to head home tired and smelly. At the very least, you won’t have to deal with this stupid annoying asshole any longer.
Jimin strides back towards you, but for once he doesn’t do anything to forcibly stop you. Jimin has always been gruff with you, not afraid to push and pull you in any which direction. It’s part of the reason why you can’t take him seriously, even though you’ve recently realized why he was always being such a prick towards you—
“Yeah, I’m not your therapist. But for better or for worse, I’m your friend and I—I fucking care about you, alright? And it sucks seeing that good-for-nothing stick his nose in your business and act like he can do anything without any repercussions.”
Is Jimin being for real right now? “With how often you look at yourself in the mirror, you’d think you’d be better at introspection,” is all you say to that. You shove your feet into your shoes, not caring that you’ve probably put them on wrong. Maybe it’s because it’s Friday and the fatigue from the week has finally settled deep in your bones, but you can’t help but leave one last scathing remark to drive the final nail in the coffin.
“You know, if you were a little nicer to me, maybe I would talk to you. Hell, maybe I’d like you back. But no, just keep being your domineering, asshole self and I’ll keep being the same fucking doormat bitch you know and love,” you spit, turning towards the door and away from his face. You’re not even curious to see how he reacts. “I don’t need protection, alright? When I tell you to stay out of my business, you stay out of it. So don’t try and pretend to be my knight in shining armor.”
There’s an ocean of silence, enough to hear a pin drop. The urge to apologize surges to the surface, but you stamp it down. He’s petty all the time, so now it’s your turn.
Okay, maybe that’s a little too mean on your part, but you’re exhausted. Perhaps it is true when they say you should never act on your anger when it’s past midnight. But can anyone blame you? You’re only a girl, and girls need to snap too.
When he responds, his voice sounds weak. Park Jimin, weak? It's almost unthinkable. "Why don't you trust me?"
Isn't it obvious? you want to say. But some mercy remains within you. You'll pick up the pieces another time. Instead, you rasp out, “Good night, Park. I’ll see you on Monday.”
The walk of shame back to your house is long and arduous. Your phone dings thrice, likely signaling texts from Jimin, but you turn it off without checking for sure. For once, the weight on your shoulders is slightly lighter. You huff out a dry laugh, realizing belatedly that maybe Jimin is right—maybe speaking your mind has its benefits.
There’s a small park in your neighborhood that you always pass by. You don’t remember the last time you spared it a second glance, but this time you notice a lone figure swinging back and forth, arching dangerously higher than what you would consider safe. From a distance, all you can make out are the person’s comically bright boots, and you have a sinking suspicion you know who it is without seeing their face.
Cosmos, or whoever it is that controls my life, why must you braid our strings of fate so tightly? You ask, but as always, it refuses to reply.
Against your better judgment, your feet bring you closer towards him. He has his back towards you, his feet pumping him higher and higher and you half expect him to swing in a perfect arc like a gymnast on parallel bars. You have to keep your distance a bit, lest you get the wind knocked out of you by his signature stompers.
You clear your throat, and the boy stops mid-swing and nearly catapults himself into the spongey, playground floor. Hunched over and wheezing, Jungkook directs his shocked eyes at you with a comical stare.
You raise a hand in greeting. A peace offering, maybe. “Hello—”
“I swear I’m not stalking you!” Jungkook interrupts as he scrambles to his feet. He bows deeply in remorse, the action so endearingly him. “S-sorry, I’ll make my way home now…”
“I don’t own the park, Jungkook. I was just saying hello…” You snort, wringing your hands uncomfortably. You grind your shoes into the ground, the sound of crunching leaves breaking the still air. “A-and… to say sorry, for earlier.”
“Sorry?” Jungkook repeats, confused. When he realizes what you mean, he waves his hands frantically. “No, no! Don’t be sorry! It was my fault for being so inconsiderate. I understand how you might misconstrue my actions, and I made things more awkward. I’ll consider your feelings more in the future…”
In the future… You cough, unwilling to meet his bright and honest gaze. If you stare too long, you fear you might go blind.
“I come here to the park often, when I feel too cramped inside my apartment,” Jungkook explains, frantic energy radiating off him in waves. He’s gesticulating too much, a clear sign that he’s trying to hide his nerves. You remember how he would do the same thing in high school, whenever he had to present his projects in front of the class.
You hold a hand up, a weak attempt to get him to calm down. “I’m not here to interrogate you. I just wanted to…” What is it that you wanted to do?
The two of you just stand awkwardly like that, similar to a few weeks ago when you discovered you were neighbors. You’re grasping at straws in your head, both conflicted for wanting to tell him something and running away. Even if you were to talk to him, what would you say? There’s a reason you told Jimin you didn’t want to talk—frankly, it’s mostly because you have no idea what to say or feel.
But you do know, the universe responds.
I ask you questions all the time, and this is how you respond?
Either that, or you’re going insane, the universe remarks.
Jungkook pulls out his phone, his fingers fumbling as he unlocks it. He takes a furtive step towards you, but thinks better of it. There’s a few feet of distance between you, but it feels like worlds apart. Close and yet so far. You recall how you’d easily pull him towards you in the past, how being together felt as natural as breathing.
“I know you absolutely hated it the last time I played my original song at the restaurant, so I refrained from performing any ever since that night. But that didn’t stop me from writing them. I was fine with keeping them locked in a vault forever, but…” He hesitates, searching you for any signs of discomfort. When he sees the carefully blank look on your face, he continues with trepidation.
“Can I try a song for you? You don’t have to say yes, and you’re free to tell me to fuck off and I’ll never even look at you ever again. Just…” He flails one last time, a choked sob making its escape from his throat.
Are you hopeless for wanting to say yes? Or were you reverting back to your old self who relied on him and believed in him so heavily? If you wanted him out of your life for good, you would have quit your job at the first sight of him. Maybe you were masochistic. Or maybe were you hopeful for a new start, a chance to rekindle a relationship that you’ve secretly always wanted to repair.
You have so much life ahead of you. Many more mistakes will be made and maybe they’ll haunt you when you’re older. But would it really be such a terrible gamble to take one more chance?
You nod, and seal your fate.
He presses play, and the soft strumming of a guitar fills the empty playground air.
Not for the first time, you wonder how it can be so easy for Jungkook to be so… honest. He spills his heart in every song that he writes, and you know he’s never been a great liar. He can’t help it, being genuine is in his DNA. This crashing waterfall, this boy with overflowing emotions—he sings what he thinks but feels terrified because of it. You might not understand his honesty, but you know that fear. You know it all too well.
He beholds himself to you—raw and unfiltered. A little battered and bruised, but still Jungkook. Behind everything, still the boy you’ve been yearning for.
Maybe this song is what will give you enough confidence to admit everything to him, too. As you stand there, listening to his mellow voice sing confessions to no one but you and the stars, you think you grow a little more courageous that day.
Maybe you won’t be able to tell him tonight. Maybe not tomorrow, nor next week either. But as you gaze back at his hopeful eyes, you know deep in your heart that you’ll find the words you’ve been looking for.
“I’ll keep waiting for you, if you let me.” Jungkook’s voice floats gently to you, and settles in your open palms. This time, you don’t let go
xxx
Months later, Jungkook stops working at the restaurant when an offer from a major record company arrives in his mail. Apparently, a big shot from the local radio station had pitched him to an employee at that company and they were all pleasantly surprised to find a hidden gem at a random bar and restaurant.
In your apartment, you stare outside your window and to where his home is—well, where it was. You wonder if he finished packing his things, ready to make the big move tomorrow. You stand up with a stretch, sparing a glance at your still broken shower. It would be nice to have one more shower at his place… And after that? Maybe you should start looking for a nicer apartment; somewhere far away might be nice.
Your phone rings, and you see his contact photo light up your screen. With a smile, you answer.
“Come over, if you want. I won’t make you,” Jungkook assures you.
You laugh lightly, already halfway out the door.

After they made their way through most of the exhibits, Haryun found herself growing hungry. Of course, she suggested they go to the gift shop on their way out. She claimed the souvenir was for Moonhee, but Yoongi watched as she carefully examined each stuffed animal until she found the perfect one.
The lucky stuffed animal she decided to take home was a bottlenose dolphin. Although they didn’t see any at the aquarium, Haryun wanted that specific one and who was Yoongi to deny her that request.
“I’m naming him Dahee,” Haryun said as they walked to an open market that was a few blocks down and Yoongi suggested they went to. When Haryun had mentioned to him that she was hungry, he figured it was the best decision since there would be an array of food to choose from. “Y’know because he’s a dolphin.”
“Dahee does not mean dolphin.”
“No, but it does start with a ‘D’.”
“So are you going to name all of your children C names because child starts with ‘C’?” Yoongi asked.
Haryun gave him a bored look. “Please, only ask me smart questions.”
In a swift motion, Yoongi scooped one of Haryun’s hands into his, and he began swinging them back and forth. “Sing for me?”
Since Yoongi held up his end of the bargain, Haryun planned to uphold hers. “Any song request?”
“I don’t mind anything,” he assured. “Just want to hear you sing.”
She’s silent for a few moments. There were a few options she felt fit the moment right, but she didn’t quite know all of the words. Once she decided on what she felt was the proper and best song, Haryun sang.
“Its a long way to California, its a long way to the palm trees.” Her voice was soft and blended into the night while she sang. She watched Yoongi close his eyes for a moment as she continued, basking in her voice after so long of not hearing it.
Never did Haryun receive any training for her voice. Many would compliment her on her voice and that they liked it, but for some reason, Yoongi and his love for her voice had a special meaning. Perhaps it had to do with the fact that Yoongi studied music, so he had an ear for melodies and tuned voices. He was as close to an expert that Haryun knew, and if he found her voice well enough to listen to then maybe she would sing more often.
It wasn’t that she had no confidence in her voice, but sometimes she would be reminded that it was not something to practice toward improving, so maybe he singing voice wasn’t great. But as she continued singing while they walked to the open market and Yoongi gasped with each lyric she sang, Haryun finally felt comfortable with this side of her that she attempted to put on the back burner for so long.
Ten minutes into their walk and halfway through Haryun’s song, they came upon the market. Even in the dark hours of the night, the market bustled as people just like them, hungry for late-night authentic cuisine, came to get their fill.
The two of them visited a few different stands, gathering as much food as their empty stomachs groaned for. Yoongi got two corndogs and some jjajangmyeon while Haryun settled for two rolls of gimbap and an American-style burger stacked with different condiments and add-ons. The two had even managed to get a serving of soondae from an ahjumma that thought the two of them were “just the cutest pair~”.
So with their arms full of all of the food they managed to hoard, the two found a bench far enough from the market to not be disturbed by the loud chatter but also close enough to use the residual light.
They sat down in unison, laying all of the food between the two of them giving each other the opportunity to pick and choose what they wanted to eat.
“I haven’t had proper soondae in a while,” Yoongi muttered as he ate a piece. His sounds of delight were endearing to Haryun as he hummed to himself in satisfaction. “It’s really good.”
Haryun took a bite of her first roll of gimbap, she had asked the nice gentleman who prepared it to not cut it for her since she liked to bite it in chunks to sate her hunger.
“Food is just so good,” Haryun moaned once she swallowed. “Like why can’t I just sleep, eat, and sleep some more.”
“That’s not very healthy.”
“A girl can dream can’t she?”
Wordlessly, Yoongi handed Haryun one of the corndogs he got for them and he watched her eat it proudly. Maybe it was his primal urges that got satisfaction from seeing her happily take what he provides her, but every time Haryun gushed about the food or about Dahee the dolphin, Yoongi felt a shiver go down his spine.
“You know, Yun-ah, I don’t know much about you.”
Haryun wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. “What do you want to know?”
“Where’re you from? Your family? Your love life? Your birthday? You know all of these things about me, but I don’t know anything aside from your name and Moonhee.”
She realized he had a point. Haryun had a habit of asking questions, but she never liked talking about herself. “I’m from Jeju.”
Yoongi had begun eating the second roll of gimbap Haryun got. That one was cut into small pieces, so Yoongi had helped himself. “Like the island?”
“Is there any other?”
“I’m taking Dahee back to the aquarium,” Yoongi easily threatened, no true malice in his words.
“Okay, okay,” Haryun laughed in response. “Yes, I’m from Jeju the island. My family still lives there. I visit them for Chuseok and Christmas, and my birthday too.”
“Which is?” Yoongi trailed off.
“The first of the year. New Years.”
“No way.”
“Yes way. And in 1994 by the way, so we’re practically the same age,” she hummed. “Okay, birthday is out of the way. What else do you want to know?”
“Any siblings?”
“One. A younger brother. You?”
“Older brother. He’s already married,” Yoongi answered. “What about your love life?”
“Just you, Gi-Gi bear,” She placed the empty skewer into the empty carton that once held the jjajangmyeon that Yoongi polished off. “Unless you want me to have others?”
Yoongi was unimpressed with her joke. “No. But I meant in the past.”
“Well,” Haryun paused and took a deep breath. She seemed hesitant with her words but this was Yoongi, he was trustworthy. Plus, she agreed to keep no secrets. “There was one guy, he’s the most recent.”
“How recent?”
Thinking that far back was hard. “Last year around this same time, my sophomore year is when it ended.”
This had Yoongi interested. “Who was it? I know him?”
The thing was Haryun’s relationship with Kyungsu was much less a relationship and more of a toxic push and pull between the two. One moment, things would be great with them, and the next Kyungsu was upset because Haryun forgot to text him goodnight. It became too much of a hassle once Moonhee reminded Haryun that Kyungsu never asked Haryun to officially be his girlfriend.
Nor did he take her on dates.
Nor did he let her come to his apartment. At that point in time, Haryun put up boundaries that Kyungsu could not and would not respect. He always came to her apartment at inappropriate times, often bothered Moonhee about getting Haryun to text him back, and never paid for his own meals when Haryun did give him the benefit of hanging out with her.
It became more of her taking care of him than a relationship which was why she ended it. And because Kyungsu was a narcissist who believed he could do no wrong, he behaved like a child and threw a gigantic tantrum. Kyungsu would repeatedly text her, call her, dm her on every social media and had even started harassing her younger brother.
But with one complaint to Seyoung, the older girl took it upon herself to handle Haryun’s issue with Kyungsu. Be it the grace of god, Kyungsu seemed to vanish. No more texts, calls, and anytime Haryun would pass by Kyungsu on campus he made sure to walk the other way.
She had no idea what Seyoung said to him, but whatever it was had him scared, and Haryun needed him to stay that way.
“Do you know Lim Kyungsu?” Haryun could tell by Yoongi’s confused look that he had no idea who she was talking about. Lucky him. “He’s the goalie for the soccer team in the same year as us.”
“I don’t know him. Was he good to you?” The atmosphere turned serious.
She didn’t try to hide her annoyance. “No, not at all, but it’s in the past. I haven’t spoken to him in almost a year so,” she shrugged. “I’m over it.”
Haryun may have been over it, but Yoongi seemed bothered, his expression tight and eyes dark. “You’re going to have to show me who he is.”
“Okay, no,” she looked at Yoongi with an incredulous expression. “No threatening anyone.”
“But you can threaten Umji?”
“I won’t to her face. How about that?”
“Then I won’t threaten him to his face either,” Yoongi conceded, but his tone did not suggest he meant any of his words. “With words. If I make any suggestive gestures then I can’t help that.”
“I’ll allow it.”
During their conversation, the two had managed to eat most of the food they bought at the market. All of the soondae was gone, Yoongi focusing on that the most since he would probably never get the chance to have anymore for a while. The burger Haryun got received two bites from her before she offered the remnants to Yoongi who happily accepted them and polished it off as well.
The night carried on with bright moonlight and twinkling stars. Chilling breezes swept by the two every few moments as they continued talking, getting lost in one another and wanting it to last forever.
Sadly, time waited for no one. Eleven o’clock came sooner than the two would have liked as text messages from Moonhee came through Haryun’s phone.
♥︎♥︎♥︎♥︎♥︎♥︎: are you coming home or can i sleep now?
and they were roommates (yunbun): im omw now. but sleep dont wait up
♥︎♥︎♥︎♥︎♥︎♥︎: you already know i will wake up when you come in, so ill wait around
♥︎♥︎♥︎♥︎♥︎♥︎: did you kiss him yet?
and they were roommates (yunbun): go to sleep
and they were roommates (yunbun): and no :/ not yet :(
Haryun ignored the repeated buzzes from her phone as Moonhee replied, helping Yoongi pick up their trash and place each item into their appropriate bins.
“Is that Moonhee-ah texting you?”
“She told me to tell you to release me back to her,” Haryun grinned as the two began walking back through the market, making their way out. “You’ve reached your limit.”
Shyly, Yoongi stretched his arm across Haryun’s shoulders, pulling her close to him and into his chest. It helped keep them warm as the temperature reached an all-time low for the night, but the proximity was comforting.
“Can I get an extension?”
“There’ll be an extra fee.”
On the way into the market, Haryun spotted a slushy stand that made her mouth water. With the opportunity presenting itself to her, what better way to get one last treat out of Yoongi for the night?
Unsurprisingly, he had agreed, more than happy to give Haryun anything she wanted. Now, did he chastise her for drinking an ice cold beverage when the temperature was below forty? Yes. And did Haryun’s puppy eyes get him to concede anyway and continue to buy her the drink? Also yes. But the two were learning that when it came to one another, the only option was yes.
While the two made their way back to the train station, taking their sweet time with the thirty minute extension that the slushy earned Yoongi, Haryun gave Dahee to him while she focused on her drink. The streets were mostly empty, a few stragglers here and there as the city went to sleep.
The atmosphere was calm and cold and Yoongi took it upon himself to voice his inner thoughts.
“Tonight felt like every other day we met up for coffee,” he pointed out. “It was comfortable, no first date jitters.”
Haryun shivered from her drink. “Maybe that just means we’ve been dating this whole time.”
“Have we?”
“That means you ghosted your girlfriend, Gi-Gi Bear.”
“Ohhhh,” Yoongi shared a surprised look with Dahee, then turned his face and Dahee’s face to look at Haryun. “My girlfriend?”
“You better be my boyfriend after this,” Her voice was even with determination. “No take-backs.”
“Gosh, give me time to decide,” he teased. Haryun looked fed up with Yoongi’s antics. He put a finger on his chin, pretending to genuinely debate the offer. “I guess I’ll give you the pleasure of being my girlfriend.”
“Dickhead.”
Knowing there was a new status to their relationship seemed terrifying. For Yoongi, he hadn’t had an official girlfriend in a while. Being in a relationship meant you were a part of a different whole, other than yourself. It came with two identities: For Yoongi, he was Min Yoongi, the star basketball player and now Yoon Haryun’s boyfriend. For Haryun, she was Yoon Haryun, but also Min Yoongi’s girlfriend, and while she didn’t want to think about it now, a lot of people would care about that fact back on campus.
Maybe they should keep their relationship private. If there was anything she hated more than gossip it was people gossiping about her. But also, there was a nagging possesiveness in her that wanted to let everyone know Yoongi was hers, no one else could have him.
Yes, you could look. Maybe even fantasize a little, but the second anyone got the idea to act on their attraction, Haryun wanted to be able to crush their dreams. Was it evil? Of course. But would it bring her a morbid satisfaction? Hell yes. Yet she could care less.
Alot of hardwork went into gaining Yoongi as a friend, and even more as a boyfriend, so to hell will all of her qualms and anxieties, she’d yell it from the rooftops that Min Yoongi was hers and she was his. And for as long as he would have her, she’d stay by his side.
Tumblr media
Being Yoongi’s girlfriend felt no different than when she was simply receiving a coffee from him for two weeks. Sure, it had only been thirty minutes since they had made it official, but Haryun felt the same. Yoongi looked at her the same, treated her the same, and maybe that was when she realized he had liked her all along.
From the very moment at Hope World all those months ago, Yoongi looked at Haryun like he was smitten. Sure, back then she didn’t realize it because she barely knew him. But now, she liked to think she knew him well enough to know what his looks meant, and each and every time Yoongi looked into her eyes, there was enamor.
Even as Yoongi walked Haryun to the front of her building, handing her back Dahee, there was that look in his eyes. Small twinkles of stars lit up his brown eyes as he looked down at Haryun the same way he had for weeks on end.
“You already know what I want to ask,” Yoongi softly spoke, his hands already dancing their way around Haryun’s waist and settling on the small of her back as he pulled her close. “But I am a gentleman before anything else, so-”
Haryun giggled, just as eager as Yoongi. “Just kiss me.”
Without any hesitation, the two fell together with a sense of haste and calmness, allowing their lips to press together chastely before it evolved to a deeper, wanton kiss. With Dahee in her right hand, she shoved the dolphin behind her, sparing her son from the intense action that was there kiss, but with her left hand, Haryun curled it behind Yoongi’s neck, pulling him as close as she could get. Yoongi sighed in relief as he continued indulging himself with kiss after kiss, leaving little to no room for Haryun to breathe.
And she had no complaints. His lips were soft, pillowy and warm, inviting her back for more each time the kiss grew weak and she teased him by pulling away. After a few moments, the kiss became less of an action and more of a press of their lips together as Yoongi refused to let the moment end.
He had exercised enough patience, waited long enough to feel her lips on his again, and he’d be damned if he rested before he was ready. So after a few more quick pecks, an obnoxiously loud howl of laughter from Haryun, and one more swift yet sweet kiss, Yoongi seemed to have quelled his deepest desires. He loosened his grip on Haryun’s waist, but made sure to keep her close as a cheeky smirk danced over his swollen lips.
“Feeling better?” Haryun chuckled as she thumbed over Yoongi’s bottom lip with tease. “Seemed like you were on a mission.”
“Just gonna say,” He took the opportunity to press a kiss to the corner of Haryun’s mouth. “It was worth the wait.”
“Mhm. I agree.”
They knew it had to be past midnight at that point, but there was no sense of urgency to separate. Giving themselves a few more moments to be together, their foreheads rested against one another as they shared hushed whispers of goodnight that seemed never ending.
“I’ll text you in the morning,” Haryun promised as she took a step back. “First thing.”
Yoongi kept a grip on her free hand as he let her drift a bit further from him. “I’ll text you first. I’ve got practice.”
“Mkay.”
“Yeah.”
She had gotten far enough to the point where both of their arms were extended in order to keep contact, but they could both tell that they weren’t going to let go.
“One more for the road?” Yoongi asked.
Haryun pouted cutely, her cheeks puffing considerably. “Just one.” As Yoongi guided her back to him to share one final kiss for the night. It lasted long enough for the two to manage a few hours apart, so with one final wave to both Haryun and Dahee, Yoongi allowed Haryun to walk into her building with reddened cheeks from both the freezing temperature and the heated kisses.
And if Haryun had turned around to witness Yoongi fistbump himself in congratulations, she didn’t mention it.
