He's one of those guys that truly doesn't care what he does in front of people, or what others think of him

Do you want to cuddle up against him in front of everyone?

He'll proudly hold you in his arms

You want to plant kisses all over his face just because?

He happily smiles through them all

Whatever you want, he'll give you

Doesn't matter when or where

And this doesn't change in private either

He loves physical touch, so you're up against his side about 23 hours out of the day

He's also clingy in his own way too

You're using the bathroom?

He just walks right in, no shame

You're getting dressed?

Oh, let him help you with that

He might not admit it, but he likes having eyes on you every minute of every day

As happy as he acts all the time, he does really worry about you

You're a huge part of what keeps him going

Without you, he literally has no humanity left

You are basically his life line

When the nightmares become too much, he grabs ahold of you to reassure himself that he's not alone

When you aren't around, he doesn't eat, doesn't drink, and finds himself engulfed in utter terror

He actually needs you

Even if he wants a bit of space, he needs you in the room with him so he has something he knows is real

During the good days, he's very attentive to you

He enjoys being cuddled up next to you, listening to you talk about random stuff

He also likes when you play with his hands

Physical touch can sometimes be overwhelming for him, but just the softest feeling of your fingers against his helps ground him

There are some moments where he hides himself from you

He's so afraid that he'll hurt you or something will come and take you away from him

But each time, you're there to coax him out of that darkness with a gentle smile and a reassuring voice

He knows deep down that he'll always be able to count on you

Jervis Tetch

He enjoys having a routine with you

Each morning you get up together and have breakfast

In the afternoon, you both share tea and pastries

And at night, you both put on colorful matching pajamas while you read to him

He just really enjoys affectionate time with you

Your arm wrapped in his, the occasional kiss on the cheek or hand, and being entangled in each other's embrace every night during bed

Whenever he has a nightmare about his sister or finds himself going too mad, he seeks you out

You're able to bring him back better than anyone else

He likes to bring home lavish clothing for you to wear

One of his favorite things is playing dress up and watching you try on all the stuff he's gotten for you

And if there's one outfit he finds especially pleasing, he'll take you in his arms and sway you around to whatever song pops in his head

During his low moments, he'll lay against you and ask you to tell him a story

It doesn't really matter what it is, he just enjoys hearing your voice and feeling your chest vibrate against his ear

Gotham!Jerome Valeska

Job: Police Officer

Oh you little tattletale.

He’s not too surprised by your efforts in trying to keep him from getting caught.

Hell practically half if not most of his followers are or used to be coppers before joining him.

You’re no exception.

Expect to get anonymous calls from him talking and asking about anything other than any more information on Gordon being on his tail or big plans the precinct has been working toward.

For example, one day he called you while on shift to just say, “When are ya gettin’ off cop doody?”.

He has a printed and digital copy of your work schedule.

As we see in Season 4,he has complete control over Arkhams guards and prisoners, even saying that he wants to make a show of his escape, further displaying the extent of his 'showman complex'.

For the sake of the prompt, if he had any minor inconveniences with his little escape he wouldn’t turn down you assisting him in his plans.

Though do keep in mind his showman complex and that unless you want to be discovered as a traitor, you’ll need to discuss with him a plan where you won’t be seen as an accomplice.

He’ll leave little gifts for you on your desk mostly to show his appreciation for all that you’ve done for him.

How he gets them there, you’re not too sure.

If you don't care for his gifts, he'll offer other ways to show his appreciation. (I'm winking under the eyepatch)

Gotham!Jervis Tetch

Job: Doctor

“Twinkle, twinkle, pretty doctor, how I long to unlock her. In this asylum, you shine with smite, but in my heart, you are my light.” (Yes, this is similar to him and Lee’s interaction.)

When he got sent to Arkham, there wasn’t much he was looking forward to.

Except getting back out on Gotham streets and getting revenge on James Gordon.

But when he meets you? Now there’s something to look forward to.

Once he realizes you’re on his side and help him escape the first time, expect to hear from him often.

Quite often in fact.

When he gets sent to Arkham a second time, doctor visits and check ups are a lot more fun now.

It’s like two kids in kindergarten, passing secret notes to one another while the teacher isn’t looking.

Some being about a plan for his escape while others are all laughs and giggles.

He is a gentleman when it comes to showing his gratitude for your assistance.

That is if he likes you of course.

Gotham!Jonathan Crane

Job: Forensic science technician

When you first met, Jonathan didn’t trust you.

In fact he hated you.

Anyone associated with the GCPD and Jim Gordon, he hated.

He blamed you all for the death of his father.

It took a bit of time and patience for him to fully trust you.

Even when you started becoming a full time mole for him, he still kept you at an arms length.

No matter how often you’d update him on the GCPD and their plans, or Jim Gordon’s whereabouts, he’d just give a vague form of acknowledgment or confirmation in your words.

The only reason he started to put his whole trust in you was when you started showing interest in his experiments.

Especially his toxin.

He starts enjoying your company more when you start helping him perfect his toxin.

You both find out it comes in handy that you’re able to get information on your former colleagues' fears without any suspicion.

He’s able to find weak points in practically every police officer in the precinct.

He starts showing his gratitude for your help later on.

Though he does tend to act vague about it.

Jerome

-Jerome is a very jealous person. The fact that someone had the nerve to date you, much less broke your heart? This person is dead, dead, dead.

-He's not going to wait and stealthily hunt his prey. The second he finds out the person's name and where they live, he's out the door.

-"Okay fine! (s)he lives three blocks away from the university!" "Thanks, gorgeous." *kisses you on the lips before running out the door*.

-Three hours later, Jerome is back, playing Russian roulette with your former love interest. "Hey, prince(ss), say hello to the worst scum to ever walk this earth".

-Are you wondering why Jerome hasn't killed them yet? Because he's waiting on supplies for the big show!

-Whether you like it or not, you're watching as Jerome ends them. He leaves them tied to the chair and comes over to you, and kisses your cheek. "Enjoy the performance, gorgeous".

Jeremiah

-Trust that Jeremiah is just as jealous as Jerome. But he won't show it. He'll kiss you and tell you that you're beautiful as you cry in his arms.

-But rest assured, he'll figure out the person's name (if you hadn't told them already), address, social media, names of all their relatives. And yes, he'll even track this person's location by hacking into their phone.

-And why settle for just killing them? Why not ruin their life? Why not frame them for murder of a friend/partner/relative?

-After days of planning and scheming, Jeremiah's plan comes to fruition. When this person's life is inevitably ruined, Jeremiah kidnaps them.

-"My dear, you have two choices. You can either kill them, and everyone knows that they died refusing to own up to their crimes. Or, they can spend the rest of their life in prison".

-*Jeremiah kisses you while sliding a knife into your hand*. "The choice is yours".

Jeremiah has style and is a perfectionist, he doesn't like bright and extreme colors mixed together

Jerome on the other hand, has more of that madness and mess surrounding him so he would love your style

he would love to see all your clothes so colorful on you and in your wardrobe

He would love your hair too, especially if it's a color he really likes

He would probably help you choose the next color for your next tint

Speaking of tattoos, he might be able to convince you to get his colorful name tattooed to match your other colorful tattoos

he would ask your advice to liven up the city a little

It would be fun for you to write a long lists of what you love vs what you hate when it comes to Jerome Valeska fanfictions and why you feel that way 🤪

is this ask from last summer? yes. am i only answering it now? also yes. hopefully the asker still follows me.

please remember that these are all just my opinions and it’s totally fine to disagree. a lot of it comes down to the characterisation of Jerome, which I feel a lot of writers oversimplify

let’s start with what I don’t like (cause that’s easier):

one of my biggest frustrations are fics where it’s like “reader is a high school student/nurse at arkham/police officer who is actually super insane except shows no sign of that at all ever”. can they be done well? sure. but I rarely see it. one fic that I read years ago had the reader as one of the cheerleaders on the bus in s2ep2 and she hands Jerome a lighter because… why? never really clear. in general, the ordinary person who is actually the perfect type of insane for Jerome to be interested in as opposed to just killing is rarely done right for me

I hate when Jerome in a fic is poorly characterised. by that, I mean just behaving sporadically in a “the writer doesn’t know what they’re doing way” as opposed to “he’s insane”. it’s a difficult line to walk

now, don’t get me wrong. i like a lil smut. well written smut. but it’s difficult to write Jerome smut well. a very core element of his character, established very early, is the fact that his mother’s sexual activity defos traumatised him and was key in pushing him over the edge. a Jerome who’s just banging left right and centre isn’t a Jerome that’s in character for me

now onto the likes (a lot of which are just the inverses of the dislikes):

the best thing a writer can do (for me) is have a clear idea of who Jerome is in their mind and in their fic. like I said above, there are lots of different ways to portray Jerome, and it’s not my place to tell people what’s right or wrong. I’d much rather read a consistent Jerome that isn’t how I imagine him than a wibbly wobbly noncommittal Jerome

in a similar vein, fics where Jerome is actually a bad person who does bad things. commit crime! relish in people’s suffering! but do them in interesting ways.

I love a fic where we get of vulnerable Jerome. not every fic needs this, but depending on the context i really enjoy getting to see writers interpretations of what that looks like, especially given that we don’t get any of it in the show really

again, these are all just my own thoughts. there’s a lot of nuance and a lot of fics out there. stuff I used to love I hate now, and stuff I once hated… I usually still hate tbh. read the fics you love and write the fics that make you happy

it would be both subtle and dramatic

subtle, because he would never ask directly; he'd listen

was there something you were talking about currently? or maybe something you've wanted forever? he would pick up on the slightest mention of it

but like i said, it would also be dramatic

an artist you've been listening to lately? he'll make sure you have every possible record on vinyl and cd, concert tickets, merch

a car that you've dreamed of for years? in your driveway, with every possible upgrade

growing up he didn't have much, so he wanted to make sure someone that he cares about never feels like that

although he's not really the one for physical intimacy, there are some small gestures he really loves

great example are forehead kisses - long evenings after tiring days, right by the fire places

he might not be huge with PDA, but everyone knows that you're involved with each other, making you untouchable

and when i say everyone, i mean everyone; his enemies, his allies, his staff

his worst fear is someone hurting you to hurt him; makes him extremely protective, making sure you're safe 24/7

your relationship is the definition of "private, but not secret"

ed nygma:

although the pre and post riddler ed might have fair share of differences when it comes to dating, there's definitely a lot of similarities

for example, for ed you're always the number one priority, not matter what

the pre-riddler ed would cancel any plans for you (not that he had loads of those anyways lol)

it would take one phone call from you for him to drop everything and meet you somewhere

if ed liked you, he would have the hardest time telling you; even if you were involved with someone else, he would be your shoulder to cry on, no matter how much it broke his heart

once you got together he would need regular reassuring of how much he means to you

would be a combination of his own insecurities and how highly he thinks of you

both before and after you start dating, you smiling in his direction would be enough to make his day

post-riddler is much more confident, cares significantly less of what people think of him

but even given all of his confidence, his old insecurities still get the best of him

he would get very jealous at times

whenever he would suspect you could have feelings for someone else (which is a conclusion he makes way too rapidly) he would feel like the awkward and practically invisible technician working at the police station all over again

takes a ton of reassuring to for him to seem confident again- because deep down he will always feel like that to an extent

being his partner means being his best friend- it's such a special connection

he relies on your support so so much

although it took him a while to learn to come to you with his issues, you're definitely the best support system he's ever had, and he makes sure you know how much that means to him

victor zsasz:

one word: TEASING

so so so much teasing

oddly enough, this might be the healthiest relationship on the list

he has an understanding of personal space and time

i mean don't get it wrong: he WILL show up unannounced in your living room in the middle of the night on a random tuesday, just chilling on the couch because "he missed you"

but if there is ever a situation where you tell him that you need space and time alone, he just respects it

he has a very laid back attitude towards you, but if the situation requires he will act very quick to protect you; whether you disapprove of his methods or not

even though like i said he gives you space and time if needed, he has his subtle ways of knowing whether you're staying safe and out of trouble

i can for sure see him with a fellow assassin, even, or maybe especially, working for a rival gang

business is business, and he doesn't see a reason why it should interfere with his personal life after work

and the constant competition is kind of fun and exciting to him, which is ironic, given the line of work

one time you were ordered by your bosses to take each other out, and for shits and giggles you even pretended to attempt it, but gave up easily just cause you couldn't take one another and this whole situation seriously

overall it's a very playful relationship of equal time teasing and strong sense of protection, on both sides

jerome valeska:

the best word to describe the relationship with this man is 'rollercoaster'

with the highest of highs and lowest of lows

good moments make you feel on top of the worlds and bad moments make your stomach drop

no two days are the same with this guy

no surprise that he is very obsessive

the second he saw you and was utterly and completely fixated on you and you only

it was obsession at first sight for sure (bonus points if you met at arkham)

and you can't really blame yourself, he was very charming

just something completely captivating about him

although his attention is all over the place, he would make sure to always have a good look at you, even with the corner of his eye

he just needs you around 24/7

the respect for personal space and time? yeah don't really count on that

at a certain point there's some sort of addiction formed, where you can't really function without him either

say what you want about jerome, but his energy is absolutely infectious and sometimes you just need someone who will make you feel like you're on top of the world

another thing about him is that his obsessive sense of protection mostly extends to guarding you from the GCPD, but not really to a basic sense of safety

he will take you with him to all of his most dangerous heists, because he doesn't want you 'missing out on all the fun'

he regularly finds places to break into in the middle of the night, like theme parks and big malls, and just goes CRAZY

he is there to make any absurd wish of yours come true

if during the time where everyone just assumed he was dead you moved on with your life and god forbid found happiness with someone else- he is changing that the second he's back

jeremiah valeska:

the jeremiah before the transformation was paranoid about absolutely everything

including your safety, mostly because of jerome

his childhood made him put up this shield around him and it wasn't easy to let you into his life - but once he did he shielded you even more than he ever did for himself

if it was up to him, you'd never leave his super-secure home/facility, because he's that worried

and many times he's begged you do to so

out of sheer sense of protectiveness over you

but staying in a windowless bunker is not really easy for many people

and he knows that he can't really argue you on that, so all he has left is worrying until you're back

you always were back, and he had to fight the urge to beg you not to ever leave again

the post-transformation jeremiah is also insanely protective- with the added effect of more confidence is slight obsessiveness

his obsessiveness would be much more subtle than one that his brother displayed - jeremiah would just always know where you are and who you're with

he would go to actual insane measures to protect you; he'd burn entire cities if it meant keeping you safe

both before and after the transformation he's not really the best at communicating his feelings, but his way of making up for it is acts of service - subtle before transformation and less subtle after the transformation

oddly enough, he also became a lot more openly romantic than before, with grand, dramatic gestures

not that he wasn't romantic before; just in a lot more shy and delicate way

one thing never changed - how much keeping you safe meant to him

Jerome endured a horrific upbringing that included his mother's abuse, that of her partners, that of his uncle, and lastly, Jeremiah's abandonment. He remembered Cicero's counsel at his 9th birthday, that he ought to accept the truth that the world didn't care about him. But what does that old man know? He had someone who cared; you; his sole friend and the only good thing in his life.

Even as a child, Jerome was very possessive. As mentioned before, you were the only good thing to happen to him in a long time. He grew up to have a mindset where you both are against the world; that’s he your only friend, who knows and understands you more than anyone else. While most didn’t see it, at such a young age, you were able to identify that something was ‘wrong’ with Jerome.

Once, you invited a friend over to play with you and Jerome, which infuriated him. While you were going down the slides, Jerome pushed your friend into the slide face down. This resulted in them breaking their nose, which also resulted in the parents questioning Jerome. Wanting to protect Jerome, you lied and claimed they fell instead. After that incident, you never brought another friend again.

As much as Lila didn’t like you around her son; she had no choice. When she tried separating you for the first time, Jerome seemed unhinged, almost on the verge of snapping. No amount of beating or ‘punishments’ could calm him. For the first time after Jeremiah; she was terrified of what he could do. When allows him to see you again, Jerome goes back to his normal old self. But Lila was unaware of how much she dug her own grave.

When Jerome realizes that he sees you more than a friend, he accepts it rather quickly. He wants to spend his entire life with you on his side. So in his mind, it makes complete sense for him to see you through a romantic lens. His love of ideas is a bit twisted, though. His mother didn’t show it and his only guidance is those romantic comedies he watched with you, but then again, they aren’t the best example either.

When he killed his mother, Jerome finally felt free. Not only will he no longer suffer under her abuse; she won’t get in the way between you and him ever again. He’s excited to tell you what he's done, but has to clean up the scene. And while Cicero advises him not to inform you about his deeds, Jerome tunes him out. You’re his best friend. You’ll never leave or turn him in. You would lie to protect him as you always did growing up.

Eventually, Jerome was questioned about his mother’s disappearance leading to his arrest, then being sent to Arkham Asylum. The staff had to deal with his violent and unpredictable behavior, hence, why they had you visit him so often. It was the only way to get him on his ‘good’ behavior. But he’d get angry whenever the guards would stay in the room, but for the moment, he doesn’t let it show. It can be unsettling how casual he’s about the whole thing.

Once Jerome is out of the asylum, he’s so eager to see you again. While he may be a little hurt, if you had a hand in his arrest, he could never be truly mad at you. He’ll hold you close to him. Speaking as if it’s an everyday thing for him to break into your place.

If there’s one thing about Jerome is he’s very open about his feelings. He casually confesses his ‘love’ for you. No matter what you do, he’ll continue loving you. Betray him in any way, it’s fine, he forgives you after some psychological punishment. Telling Jerome that you hate him will not deter him in the least. And while he professes his love of you in front of everyone, no one dares to use you against him, as they know Jerome will burn down all of Gotham if anything were to happen to you.

• He doesn’t want to judge you as he’s realised how passionate you are about your beliefs, but he was a little uninterested in learning about the history of it all.

“So you know about Salem, right? The Witch trials?”

“… Salem? Ain’t that where they filmed Hocus Pocus?”

“JEROME!”

• It took a while to get him to take it all in, but you were surprised to find out he actually enjoyed the weeks you spent teaching him on the history of how your beliefs came to be.

• You have to be careful on when you decide to burn incense. If you choose to, make sure Jerome ain’t lurking around. He’s oddly got quite a sensitive nose. So most incense sticks make him sneeze or he either complains about the smell. Shame.

• On nights he feels particularly loopy, he begs you to give him a tarot reading. You were shocked the first time he asked, but you kept putting it off, telling him he had to be in the right mindset for both him and yourself to focus.

• When you DID however give in and do his cards one day, he got the death card, and began to freak out.. not knowing that the death card didn’t necessarily mean death itself.

“DOLL, IF I DIE NOW.. I WANT IT TO BE ON MY OWN TERMS!”

“Jerome that’s not-”

“I HATE THIS.”

• He knocked SEVERAL candles over during that one reading, and when his coat caught on fire.. yeah it was time to stop..

• There’s been days you’ve felt his energy, being the empath that you are. And you know when he’s thinking about his childhood again.

• You asked him if you could do a little something for him with some of your oils, just to perhaps protect him from any negative thoughts that directed back to his past.

• Everytime you light a candle for yourself or others, you have to remind Jerome each time. If you don’t, he’ll just blow it out and walk right past.

• He fucking LOVES your ring collection. There’s a specific ring you have that he finds rather amusing to look at. It’s moonstone, and you’ve found him sitting playing with it on multiple occasions. It really is eye catching.

• His fav crystals are definitely Tiger’s Eye and Lapis Lazuli.

• He had no clue there were different types of witches. Black, grey, white, red, green. And many more.

“What about ginger witches?”

“Well- okay yeah I suppose they exist too..”

• Overall, your beliefs are another quirk that Jerome finds so intriguing about you. He knows that when he’s with you, he’s protected. As you are with him.

JEREMIAH (POST SPRAY)

• Unlike his brother, Jeremiah does actually have some knowledge on witchcraft. Mostly because his adopted family when he was sent away were Christians, and always spoke of Wicca as satanic worship. But Jeremiah wasn’t that stupid.

• He actually showers you with new gifts that you can use for what you do. And he LOVES the scent of incense. So he makes sure you’re stocked up on that at all times.

• Jeremiah actually came forward to you once about something he’d never really been able to talk about to anyone. And he had wondered if you’d be able to make this specific thing go away. Jeremiah had a certain sleep paralysis demon torment him for years, and unfortunately he’d had to grow used to it. But when he figured out there was things you could do to help, he knew to approach you about it.

• He’s very interested in your clairvoyance. You’ve told him about visions you’ve had in dreams, and it’s always intrigued him. But he’s even more surprised when your visions have came to be. Some unwanted, some rather pleasant.

• However, when it comes to readings, he’s a bit cocky. He likes to think he already knows what his future holds.

• Whenever Jeremiah feels awfully run down or fatigued, he enjoys allowing you to rub oils on his temples. This is more often than you’d think. When you tell him to close his eyes, he does so. And the more you try to relax him, the more it gives him the tingles. He actually shivers at the thought of it. He loves it.

• He knows the Mercury Retrograde means a lot to you, so when you insist on having to do your own little private things for that occasion, he doesn’t bother you.

• He’s watched you burning your intentions on little notes from inside of his hideout. He thinks you standing there as the smoke from your small cauldron descends into the night air is quite a beautiful sight.

• Jeremiah used to get awful night terrors in his bunker, and even now he still uses the method you always instructed him to vision. He imagines himself in a mirrored dome, his desires and whatever he values are inside with him. Whatever is on the outside stays on the outside. And anything that’s inside, including himself, is along the mirrors facing the outside. Meaning that the mirrors are a method of not allowing anything else in.

• Yes, Jeremiah is rather private about all of this, but he’s found great comfort in using strategies you’ve taught him. Like Jerome, he feels very protected with you. And you’ve helped him get rid of many things that once stood in his way. But beware. There’s also many things Jeremiah might try and use, that perhaps go a little too far in your books..
