OC name meanings for SOTSK

I saw @blind-the-winds do this and they had it as an open tag so I thought I'd contribute! I love name meanings so letsa go:

The Dalions

Jamos: Altered form of "James" which is Hebrew for "Supplanter"

Katrine: Altered form of "Katherine", meaning 'pure', and is Greek in origin

Laedir: Made up. Though I think it means 'leather' in Dutch with a different spelling so....

Quinnton: Latin, meaning 'the fifth'

Bronwyn: Welsh, meaning 'white breasted' (I've heard this was meant to imply 'pure hearted' ?), also 'white raven'

Gevin: A mix of "Kevin" and "Gavin" - Kevin is an anglicized Irish name meaning 'handsome', and Gavin is most commonly thought to be Celtic in origin, meaning 'white hawk' *

Ciaran: Irish, meaning 'little dark one' (referencing colouring/hair colour)

Jerod: Alternate spelling of "Jared", a Hebrew name meaning 'descent'

Cassian: Latin, 'empty' or 'hollow'

Nurei: Initially made up, I think I stole it from some online story about fairies I read in like 2009 and spelled it differently. HOWEVER upon researching, I found out that "Nura" and "Nureh" are real names of Arabic origin, meaning 'light'

Esme: Old French for 'esteemed'

The inlaws/ others

Jessylle: Reworking of "Giselle", a Norman French play on a Germanic word meaning 'pledge'

Jena: From "Jennifer", a Cornish version of the Welsh "Guinevere/Gwynhwyfar", meaning 'white' or 'white wave'

Brenna: Celtic, 'little raven'

Gwyn: See above ^^

Nysel: All I can find is that "Nysell" is a surname, but idk what it means

Neroli: Italian, referring to orange blossom scent (fun fact, I stole the idea of naming a character this from a girl at my high school who had the name Neroli *shrugs*) **

Taigen: Reworking of "Teagan", Irish meaning 'poet' or 'philosopher'

Mariel: Danish, 'star of the sea' (did not know this was a real name until I googled it, I thought I was just spelling "Muriel" with a different vowel)

*no, I didn't name both the twins after white birds on purpose, it just Turned Out That Way and honestly I'm a little insane about it

**I definitely did not go through my yearbooks to find kids I didn't even talk to who had cool names and make a list of them to Use

There are way way too many characters in my book but I'm gonna leave it there...

Soooo @writerfae did an open tag for this game, and by coincidence I'd already started this so now is my excuse to finish it off!

Jamos Dalion- Sagittarius (December 8) In general he gives off more Capricorn vibes but I REALLY was attached to the idea of him being born in early December for Reasons.

ohhohohohoho, ready for my good good faerun kids??? this time with LORE???????? HERE WE GO CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!

A NICE FAMILY PICTURE!! BUT THERE’S MORE BELOW ABOUT THEM AS INDIVIDUALS! SO GIVE IT A READ MAYBE????????

This is a very long post btw (or maybe it just seems that way because the pictures are long), so yeah.

So first up, we have Avarel. She was my first DnD character that I ever made. I drew her a total of ONCE before I dug her back up again for an anti-vaping PSA I had to make for health class. And I basically completely redesigned her and this is what she looks like now! Now for lore!

Avarel is a 27 year old wood elf rogue. Her parents died in a house fire when she was young and her older sister basically raised her. They did magic in the streets to earn money, but sometimes they just straight-up stole shit and that’s valid. Avarel’s sister, Ellyss, was always looking for the son-of-bitch who burned their house down and killed their parents which is... edgy. But Avarel just liked stealing shit and kind of latched onto that. So she became a rogue!

Here’s the RAT MAN, aka Kairon. He’s my character who I’m using in my current campaign. He’s got one braincell and he stores it in his fucking bagpipes (not shown because idk how to draw bagpipes). He would not hesitate to start playing megalovania on your corpse and he is my perfect lad. Hehe lore time.

Kairon is a 19 year old tiefling bard. Both of his parents are rogues, but oh boy, is this boy rebellious. He decided, “you know what? Fuck it! I’m gonna become the complete opposite of a rogue just to be a fuckin’ rebel!” So he picked up some bagpipes, ignored his parents saying “are you absolutely sure, you can make good coin by being a rogue, or even a paladin,” and bought his own lessons like the little shit he is. And, y’know, his parents are fine with it, but sometimes they wonder why their son didn’t even consider becoming a rogue. Because he didn’t even consider it. And he has zero regrets.

And finally, the only one with a braincell, Jessyl Syllus. I say this every time I introduce them to someone, I made Jessyl because I was bored on the bus. And I don’t regret it because Jessyl is perfect and I love them. Big buff dad vibes on this big buff lad. Also that’s a phasedeer! I’ll give some lore for them as a species in a different post because they’re pretty fucking cool and they’re homemade by me!

So Jessyl has two moms and I’m gonna rant about them for a bit because they’re wonderful. One is a (pretty much) war hero orc woman named Nef. She’s got a shit ton of battle scars and she’s really fucking cool. And the other is a trans high elf princess named Iarra. Now Iarra had heard stories of Nef’s courage and of her battles and she was like “Okay. I’m determined to find this hot hot woman and ask her out.” And one thing led to another and they got married. And then another thing led to another and Jessyl was born!

OKAY ACTUAL LAD LORE. Jessyl is a 27 year old half-elf half-orc druid. They were raised in a very comfortable household, being the child of a princess and a war hero. But what they really loved was the outdoors. They would sneak off into the forest nearly every night and get lost and attempt to use nature to find their way home. Most of the time, they weren’t successful and Nef had to track down her own goddamn child to make sure Jessyl didn’t get eaten by owlbears or something. Eventually, she and Iarra sat them down and asked them the big question: “What do you want to do with your life?” And they gave an honest and unsurprising answer: “I want to live in the forest with nature!” So they were given actual survival training and, when they were all grown up, they left home and built themselves a house deep in the woods. Iarra and Nef still visit from time to time.

CHARACTER INTRO: Laeder Dalion*

Who he is: One of the POV characters from Children of the Mage Wars

Family: Parents, 8 (!!!) younger siblings, wife (Jessylle Hallored), young daughter (Brenna Dalion)

Positive traits: Intelligent, family-oriented, tactical, forgiving, dutiful, logical, humble, loyal, wise, protective

Neutral traits: Private, calm, sensitive

Negative traits: Pessimistic, insecure, dishonest, easily swayed, indecisive

Age: 23/24 - 38/39 ish, I’m having time issues

Birthday: June 24, year 446

Appearance: 5′11, curly brown hair, blue eyes, dark eyebrows. Has a scar on the left side of his face and another one on his right arm.

Backstory: As the Dalions’ oldest son and heir, Laeder has always been close by his father’s side learning how he would eventually govern Daegon Province in his stead. At just sixteen he joined his father in battle; an event that traumatized him far more than he admits. His parents arranged his marriage to Jessylle, something both of them were unsure about at the time, but they ultimately fell in love and had one daughter together. He begins to worry about the state of their land when he hears about the neighbouring Saldigan Empire’s desire to expand and take over. He wants nothing more than for his family and country to stay away from any conflict, but soon sees it may become inevitable especially when it turns out his father may have reasons of his own for going to war with their enemies...

Other facts: Laeder has quite a lot of internal worries and concerns. He is constantly juggling his love for his younger siblings and his love for his wife and daughter, whom he is determined to be a good father to. He tends to be a bit distant and removed from his siblings, and is not very close to the younger ones because he is so much older than them; to them he is more like a third parent. He respects family traditions, and has an artistic view of the world.
