Living according to the spirit is a christian requirement, the apostle of the gentiles persistently taught to the first christians in his epistles. And this teaching of Paul was and is very important, first of all, because many Christians coming from the Jewish religion wanted to impose the practice of the Law of Moses in the new religion as a matter of custom. And second, and for another reason, to clarify to the new believers some issues that are not entirely evident in the gospels. To live according to the spirit is to live the spiritual gifts, to live the mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness), to live the piety (constancy, firmness, devotion), to live the perseverance, and not to practice the law of Moses. And continuing with this thought there is a more fundamental choice, we sin or we live righteously ("Do to others what you would have them do to you" Matthew 7:12), our neighbor matters or not, there are no lukewarm christians, the kingdom of God can be compared with a chess game, we have to choose a side. That is why Paul also explained that the christian faith is an invitation to a new freedom, and not to a heavy moral obligation, with these wise words he spoke to us about the law of the Lord, the new commandment, and its implications in the daily life: "You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: ´Love your neighbor as yourself.´ If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other." Galatians 5:13-15. The commandment of love leads us to the good of all, as a saying from the Bible explains: "Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good" 1 Corinthians 12:7. Because the opposite, as Paul said, is to build walls and allow the man to become a predator of his brother.
