I've seen so many fanfictions where Feng Xin and Jian Lan have an amicable divorce and split custody of Cou Cou, and I really want to read one where they have a battle in court for him. The Heavenly Officials are watching and making comments. Pei Ming is eating pop corn. Ling Wen is tired. Mu Qing is trying to figure out why he's here. All of ghost city is there as well. Just a chaotic court room where Feng Xin and Jian Lan fight over who gets their son on what days. the day mu qing's mother passes he finds jian lan dying and manages to save the child. he's being very emotional and sentimental so he decides to keep him: creates a female form, a clone of her, and raises as his own.

he takes care of him teaches him how to fight with saber (the kid prefers a bow for some reason. whatever) one day tells him he's not his actual mother( cuocuo still calls him mom).

some time passes the clone "dies of old age" and shortly after cuocuo ascends and becomes nan yang's deputy( oh how mu qing hates that!).

general xuan zhen still keeps an eye on him, borrowing for missions occasionally, claiming that he's the only competent person in the whole palace and feng xin finds him very helpful too. he teaches him archery praises his good manners and education. his mom raised him good.

Some FengQing shippers need to stop reducing Jian Lan's character to just being someone to fill the void for Fengxin while he deals with his unrequited love for Mu Qing. I'm all for headcanons and ships but I cannot stand seeing people push their headcanons as facts simply because they hate the idea of Feng Xin being with a Jian Lan and not Mu Qing. At the end of the day while they were together Feng Xin did care for her. He earned money just to be able to buy her so that they could talk, he gave her the golden belt so that she could free herself from the brothel and even when he was shocked to find out she was pregnant, he still did what he could to help her and cuo cuo. I understand that his character has a fear of women but he felt comfortable enough being around her that even when he was forced to go, he refused to let her go.

I understand that FengQing is a popular ship, I love FengQing but the constant, "Jian Lan looks like Mu Qing. Thats why he fell in love with her." is annoying. People make Jian Lan's character and the relationship she had with Feng Xin about Mu Qing when it wasn't about him. Its like some of you applied your headcanons to the story and decided that, that was fact. Leave Jian Lan alone.

A lot of you need to stop reducing women characters to stepping stones for your ships. That's not what they are.
