Du Cheng and Shen Yi travel to Hong Kong for a case. They meet Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao.
OR
Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao travel to Beijiang for a case. They meet Du Cheng and Shen Yi.
I decided that Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao should travel down instead of having people come up to visit them.  The case in this fic is inspired by the Aileen Wuornos case and the Catching Killers episode “Manhunter: Aileen Wurnos”.  Some dialogue was used from the episode as well.
It was a pretty normal day in Beijiang as Du Cheng stepped into the Beijiang Police Department, heading for the investigation unit when Jiang Feng quickly rushed over to him, holding a case file in his hand.         “Sir.  We’ve got a new case” he stated.  Du Cheng raised an eyebrow.         “So early?  Jesus” he murmured before he sighed.         “Alright, let me get Shen Yi, I’ll be right there” he stated.  Jiang Feng nodded and turned to get things ready as Du Cheng headed over to Shen Yi’s office and knocked before he opened the door and popped his head in.         “Hey” he called out, making Shen Yi look up from a sketch he was working on for another case.         “Yeah?” he replied.  Du Cheng motioned with his head outside.         “Come on, we’ve got a case” he stated.  Shen Yi nodded and quickly put down his pencil before he stood up and walked over to Du Cheng, Du Cheng opening the door wider for him to step out before he shut it behind them as they turned and headed down the hall to where Jiang Feng, Li Han, and the others were waiting for them.         “Alright, let’s go” Du Cheng barked.   ~*~*~*~*~*~ When they arrived at the scene, it looked like a back road, one that hardly anyone ever drove down, completely surrounded by forest.  Definitely an excellent place for a crime to take place.  As they got out of the car, Li Han hummed.         “There’s a road that goes straight into the forest…think we should start there?” she asked.  Jiang Feng nodded.         “Probably…if it goes straight through the forest, there’s probably a body down there” he replied.  Du Cheng huffed.         “Let’s not jump to conclusions…the body could be anywhere.  Do you see where we are?” he stated.  Jiang Feng and Li Han hummed before they all began to make their way down the road, looking around to see if there was anything out of place.  As they headed down the road, Shen Yi sniffed the air, like a cat, before he gagged and quickly covered his mouth, making Du Cheng look over at him in concern.         “Shen Yi?  What’s wrong?” he asked.  Shen Yi took a deep breath before he moved his hand away from his mouth.         “There’s definitely a body down this way…” he croaked.  Du Cheng frowned before he sniffed the air, his face crinkling up in disgust at the distinct smell of decomp.         “Yup…there’s a body” he agreed, just as He Rongyue walked over to them.         “Captain” she greeted.  Du Cheng hummed.         “Where is it?” he asked.  He Rongyue motioned for them to follow her as she walked down the road and over to a bush, where the body of what looked to be a male was lying face down in the dirt.         “Jesus” Jiang Feng whispered as he and Li Han covered their noses and mouths to keep from gagging while Shen Yi and Du Cheng stood over He Rongyue as she flipped him over.         “Male.  Looks to be about 50 years of age…” she murmured as Du Cheng let out a low whistle.         “That’s a lot of blood” he mused.  He Rongyue and Shen Yi nodded before he frowned and pointed to the shirt the man was wearing.         “Looks like a company logo…and maybe a name” he stated, making Du Cheng, He Rongyue, Jiang Feng and Li Han look at the man’s body before Du Cheng squinted, trying to read the name.         “Lu Jing” he murmured before he looked down at He Rongyue.         “Anything on him?” he asked.  He Rongyue hummed and quickly checked the deceased’s pockets before she looked up at him and shook her head.         “Nothing” she replied.  Du Cheng hummed before he looked over at Li Han and Jiang Feng.         “Run the name “Lu Jing” through all of our databases and see if anything comes up” he ordered.  Jiang Feng and Li Han nodded and quickly headed back to their police car to head back to the substation while He Rongyue looked up at him.         “Cause of death is a gunshot wound to the head, but I don’t know what kind of bullet.  I’ll let you know my findings after the autopsy” she stated.  Du Cheng nodded.         “Okay.  I’ll wait for your findings” he replied.  He Rongyue nodded and looked over at her transporters, nodding for them to take the body away and back to the morgue so that she could start working.  As she and the other police officers walked away, the body between them on a stretcher, Shen Yi sighed and looked around at the forest.         “How did he get here?” he murmured.  Du Cheng shook his head.         “Don’t know…it’s certainly a long walk from the city…” he mused.  Shen Yi hummed.         “By car then or some other means of transportation?” he asked, glancing over at him.  Du Cheng nodded.         “Possibly.  Another question is…who did it?” he wondered.  Shen Yi chuckled.         “Now there’s the million-dollar question” he replied.  Du Cheng smiled slightly before he sighed.         “Let’s head back to see what Jiang Feng or Li Han came up with” he stated.  Shen Yi nodded as they both turned and headed back to Du Cheng’s Jeep, heading back to the substation. ~*~*~*~*~*~ When they arrived back at the substation, Du Cheng and Shen Yi walked over to Jiang Feng’s desk.         “So, what’ve you got?” Du Cheng asked.         “Looks like someone put out a missing person’s report a few days ago for him” Li Han replied as she looked up from her computer, making Du Cheng hum.         “Okay, so someone was looking for him” he mused as Shen Yi crossed his arms.         “What do we know about our victim?” he asked.  Jiang Feng hummed as he looked at his computer.         “Uh…he was a truck driver for a fish imports company.  I called the company and they said he had put in a two weeks’ notice, since he hated life on the road” he explained.  Shen Yi nodded, just as He Rongyue walked over to them.         “Captain” she called out, making Du Cheng and the others look over at her.         “What’ve you got?” Du Cheng inquired.         “Bullet appears to be a .22 caliber” He Rongyue stated.  Du Cheng hummed.         “Small caliber” he mused as he looked at her.         “Anything else?” he asked.         “He was shot twice in the head, not once” He Rongyue answered.  Shen Yi hummed.         “Not enough to be overkill…but there’s rage there.  There’s no need to shoot someone twice in the head” he muttered.  He Rongyue huffed.         “That’s your job to figure out.  My job’s just to deal with the body” she stated before she turned and walked away, everyone watching her walk away before Du Cheng looked at Li Han and Jiang Feng.         “Alright, talk to the family of the victim, see if we can figure anything else about him, like if he had any enemies or anything like that” he stated, just as a police officer ran over to them.         “Captain” they called out, making Du Cheng, Shen Yi, Jiang Feng, and Li Han look over at him.         “What is it?” Du Cheng asked.  The police officer took a deep breath before he looked him in the eyes.         “We’ve got another body” he stated.  Du Cheng’s eyes widened.         “The hell you mean we have another body?!” he exclaimed.  The officer nodded.         “We have another body…sir” he repeated.  Du Cheng looked at Shen Yi and the others before he sighed heavily.         “Inform He Rongyue to meet us at the scene” he ordered.  The officer nodded as Du Cheng shook his head.         “It hasn’t even been twenty-four hours yet, what the fuck” he whispered before he made his way towards the entrance of the police station, Shen Yi, Li Han, and Jiang Feng following behind him.
~*~*~*~*~*~ When they arrived at the scene, they quickly walked over to He Rongyue, who was kneeling next to the body, which was practically almost in the reeds.         “It hasn’t even been 24 hours, Du Cheng” she growled as he and Shen Yi walked over to her.  Du Cheng huffed.         “Well excuse me, I can’t control a murderer” he grumbled as he looked at the body.         “Was he shot?  Like the last one?” he asked.  He Rongyue nodded.         “Yeah.  Shot in the head and torso, what looks like seven times” she answered.  Shen Yi blinked in surprise.         “Seven times…their rage is escalating” he murmured.  Du Cheng hummed.         “Well, at least we’re starting to see a pattern” he mused, making Shen Yi and He Rongyue look over at him.         “A pattern?” Shen Yi asked.         “So far the victims have been older men and they’ve all been shot multiple times…I’d call that a pattern, wouldn’t you?” Du Cheng replied, looking back at him.  Shen Yi shook his head.         “I don’t know” he answered as He Rongyue sighed.         “I’ll take him back to autopsy and see what I find…let’s hope the killer waits long enough for us to solve the first case” she muttered.  Du Cheng huffed.         “In a perfect world” he grumbled.  He Rongyue smirked before she motioned for the transporters to take the body back to the morgue as Shen Yi looked around.         “Another almost abandoned road…yet no car” he murmured.  Du Cheng looked around as well before he hummed.         “He was probably dumped” he mused.  Shen Yi hummed as well.         “Maybe” he agreed.  Du Cheng then sighed.         “Let’s head back and start working on the first case…” he muttered.  Shen Yi nodded.           “Okay” he agreed as he and Du Cheng headed back to the police department. ~*~*~*~*~*~ When they arrived, they were surprised to see two men, a tall man with light skin, brown eyes, and short red-brown hair dressed in all white, and a tall man with light skin, brown eyes, and black hair dressed in all black standing in the middle of their unit, looking at the plexiglass crime board with interest.         “Can I help you?” Du Cheng asked as he and Shen Yi walked over to the men, making them look up at them before the man in white dipped his head.         “Sergeant Bai Yutong, Chief of S.C.I.  This is Dr. Zhan Yao, Deputy Chief” he introduced, motioning to the man beside him.  Du Cheng and Shen Yi frowned.         “What are you doing here?” Du Cheng demanded.  Zhan Yao smiled.         “We were called to help you on your cases” he answered.  Shen Yi frowned.         “Help us?  How?” he asked.  Bai Yutong chuckled.         “Well…have you ever dealt with a serial killer before?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.  Du Cheng frowned.         “How do you know this is a serial killer case?” he demanded, just as He Rongyue walked over to them.         “Captain” she greeted before she looked over at Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao.         “This is—” she started.         “Guests who are helping on this case.  What’ve you got?” Du Cheng answered.  He Rongyue hummed before she looked down at her files.         “Victim’s name is Fan Zheng, age 56.  Like I said at the crime scene, he was shot seven times, both to the head and the toros” she stated.           “Caliber of the bullets?” Shen Yi asked.         “.22” He Rongyue answered.  Shen Yi and Du Cheng’s eyes widened.         “Just like in the Lu Jing case” Du Cheng whispered as Bai Yutong nodded solemnly.         “Looks like you’ve got a serial killer on your hands” he declared.  Zhan Yao then looked at He Rongyue.         “All the ammunition was the same, yes?” he inquired.  He Rongyue nodded.         “Yes.  All fired out of the same firearm” she answered.  Du Cheng let out a heavy sigh before he looked over at Jiang Feng and Li Han.         “Run the name Fan Zheng” he ordered.  Li Han and Jiang Feng nodded, their fingers quickly flying over the keys of their keyboard before Li Han looked up at them.         “Fan Zheng, former Haigang police chief” she stated.  Du Cheng and Shen Yi frowned.         “Well that’s…a completely different background from our truck driver” Shen Yi murmured.  Bai Yutong hummed before he looked over at Jiang Feng.         “See if you can find any unsolved homicides that match our cases so far…anything is better than what we’re going on which is practically…” he started, glancing over at Du Cheng.         “Nothing.  We’ve had two murders in less than twenty-four hours” he stated.  Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao looked at him in surprise.         “Killer works fast” Zhan Yao mused, just as Jiang Feng looked up at them.         “Um…I think I’ve got something” he stated, making Bai Yutong, Zhan Yao, Du Cheng, and Shen Yi look over at him.         “What’ve you got?” Du Cheng asked.  Jiang Feng hummed.         “Uh, looks like there are two similar unsolved homicides…one John Doe found in Zhejiang Province and a…Tao Xue in Shanxi.  Both middle aged, both traveling alone along backroads” he stated.  Zhan Yao hummed and crossed his arms.         “Okay…so middle-aged victims, all traveling alone down backroads, all of them shot…” he murmured before he looked at Jiang Feng.         “What were they shot with?  .22’s?” he asked.  Jiang Feng nodded.         “Yes sir” he replied.  Li Han then raised her hand.         “Um…I think also found another potential victim in Qinghai” she stated, making Du Cheng, Shen Yi, Bai Yutong, and Zhan Yao look over at her with wide eyes.         “What’s their name?” Du Cheng demanded.           “Ren Wu.  Age 51” Li Han answered.  Bai Yutong frowned.         “Anything significant about him?” he asked.  Li Han hummed and looked at the police report.         “It says here that he had some property stolen from his vehicle…uh, a radar detector and a 35-milimeter camera” she replied as Jiang Feng looked at his police reports.         “Uh, my guys also had stuff stolen from their vehicles” he added.  Shen Yi frowned.         “So was this like…robbery gone bad?” he asked.  Bai Yutong shook his head.         “Don’t know” he replied as Du Cheng walked around to stand behind Jiang Feng and look at the files he was looking at.         “Can you print these out?  It’d be easier if we could all see what you’re looking at” he stated.  Jiang Feng nodded before he and Li Han quickly printed out the case reports of the unsolved homicides as well as the crime scene photos, tacking them up to the plexiglass board.  As they looked at the crime board, Li Han noticed something about some of the photos.         “Hey, Captain…look at the driver’s side seat.  It’s so far forward” she stated, pointing to a few of the photos.  Du Cheng frowned and took a step forward, looking at the photos before he hummed.         “They’re in the forward-most position” he mused as Shen Yi frowned.         “But looking at our victims…they’re not short.  They range anywhere from 177 cm to 195 cm.  There’s no reason for them to be pulling the seats that far up” he stated.  Bai Yutong hummed.         “So either our suspect is a very short man…or…” he started.         “Our killer is a woman” Zhan Yao declared.  Du Cheng, Shen Yi, Li Han, and Jiang Feng looked at him in shock.         “A woman?!” Jiang Feng exclaimed.  Zhan Yao nodded.         “Yes” he answered, just as Li Han frowned before her eyes suddenly widened.         “Oh!” she exclaimed, quickly running back over to her desk, her fingers flying over the keys on her keyboard.           “Li Han, what are you doing?” Du Cheng asked as Li Han walked over to the printer and picked up the papers she had printed out, scanning them before she smiled.         “I just remembered when you said woman that about a month or so ago, um, Captain, do you remember that case where we found that abandoned car?” she asked, looking at Du Cheng.  Du Cheng frowned before he nodded slowly.         “Yes…what about it?” he asked.  Li Han smiled.         “Look!” she exclaimed, holding out a photo of the car that showed that the driver’s seat was pushed…to the forward-most position.  Du Cheng, Shen Yi, Bai Yutong, Jiang Feng, and Zhan Yao’s eyes widened before Du Cheng let out a soft gasp.         “You think this car is related to this case?” he asked.  Li Han nodded.         “It has to.  These murders are way too close together for it to not be related” she explained before she looked at the file.         “And it says here that there was a witness who saw two women getting out of the car.  One woman was short and skinny while the other was taller with…shoulder-length blonde hair.  Says that they took off from the church in the woods” she stated.           “Anything else?” Bai Yutong asked.  Li Han hummed.         “Uh…the blonde had a scar on her forehead and…” she started before she paused.         “Li Han?” Jiang Feng asked.  Li Han blinked before she looked at them.         “And had blood on her” she finished.  Du Cheng nodded slowly before he looked over at Shen Yi.         “Think you can get us a composite?” he asked.  Shen Yi smirked.         “Sure thing” he replied before he held out his hand, Li Han placing the report into it before he turned and headed to his office to start working on the sketches.  The others watched him leave before Du Cheng looked at Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao.         “Let’s talk in my office” he suggested.  Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao nodded and followed Du Cheng to his office while Li Han and Jiang Feng headed back to their desks to start looking for more evidence.   ~*~*~*~*~*~ Inside his office, Du Cheng motioned for Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao to sit in the two chairs in front of his desk as he walked over to his chair and sat down.         “So…what does S.C.I. even stand for?” he asked, looking at them.  Bai Yutong chuckled.         “Special Cases Investigation unit.  S.C.I.  We handle cases that don’t make sense or that other divisions can’t handle” he explained.  Du Cheng hummed before he looked at Zhan Yao.         “You said you were a doctor…you don’t strike me as a medical doctor” he stated.  Zhan Yao chuckled.         “I’m an academic.  I have a PH.D. in criminal psychology” he explained.  Du Cheng nodded slowly.         “I see” he murmured as Bai Yutong motioned with his head towards the door.         “That man…Shen Yi.  Why did you ask him to do the composite sketches?” he asked.  Du Cheng smirked.         “He’s my partner and our forensic sketch artist.  He’s better than any computer program out there” he declared.  Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao nodded in understanding as Du Cheng crossed his arms.         “Have you dealt with serial killer cases before?” he asked.  Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao sighed.         “Yes.  Many times” Bai Yutong answered.  Du Cheng frowned.         “Hong Kong doesn’t sound very safe” he stated.  Zhan Yao huffed.         “Well, the only reason why we had so many serial killer cases was because they were all tied to one man: Zhao Jue” he explained.  Du Cheng frowned.         “Zhao Jue?” he repeated.  Zhan Yao and Bai Yutong nodded.         “A real pain in our asses.  Thankfully he’s…” Zhan Yao started before he paused and looked over at Bai Yutong.         “We don’t actually know where he’s disappeared to” he stated.  Du Cheng frowned.         “You guys didn’t arrest him?” he asked.  Bai Yutong huffed.         “Trust me, we wanted to.  But he was important for our last case so our boss gave him a pass as long as he stayed away and…it’s complicated” he explained.  Du Cheng hummed.         “Sounds like it” he agreed, just as Shen Yi stepped into the office.         “Du Cheng” he called out, making Bai Yutong, Zhan Yao, and Du Cheng look up at him.         “Done already?” Du Cheng asked.  Shen Yi nodded and held out two sketches, making Du Cheng, Bai Yutong, and Zhan Yao stand up and walk over to him, Du Cheng reaching out to take the sketches from him.  As the three men looked at the drawings, Bai Yutong hummed.         “Impressive” he murmured, making Du Cheng smirk and Shen Yi blush.         “I told you” Du Cheng declared before he looked at the sketches.           “So these could potentially be our suspects?” he mused.  Bai Yutong nodded.         “Potentially.  And if they are, maybe we can get some answers as to why they killed these men” he stated.  Du Cheng hummed.         “Well, let’s hope to find them soon because we’ve got five bodies, plus a missing person in the span of about…four months.  This sort of thing…doesn’t happen in Beijiang.  At least, it hasn’t happened before” he stated.  Bai Yutong sighed.         “Well, let’s go address your team then and maybe we can start hashing things out” he suggested.  Du Cheng nodded before he motioned for everyone to head out of his office as they headed back into the bullpen.         “Alright, gather round” Du Cheng ordered, all of his detectives quickly walking over to the plexiglass board as he motioned to Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao.         “This is Sergeant Bai Yutong and Dr. Zhan Yao of S.C.I.  They’re here to help us solve this case, as they have more knowledge and background with serial killing cases” he stated.  All of the detectives looked at Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao and dipped their heads to them, Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao dipping their heads in reply before Bai Yutong pointed to the board.         “Okay, so we know that every victim has been shot with a .22.  According to the lab, it’s copper-jacketed and a hollow point.  And all the striations on the bullets are a right twist, which means that the bullets were fired from the same gun” he stated.         “.22s are small, give less kick-back.  They’re typically used by people who are smaller and weaker, or by people who are not used to using guns as frequently as you and I.  They are also a popular gun of choice to be used by women as again, they are small and easily concealed” Zhan Yao continued, making one of the detectives frown.         “Are you saying that this killer could be a woman?” he asked.  Zhan Yao nodded.         “That’s exactly what I’m saying” he replied as Du Cheng looked over at the detective.         “We’ve had cases where women were the killers before.  What’s so different about this?” he demanded.  The detective shook his head.         “Nothing sir” he replied.  Du Cheng huffed.         “That’s what I thought” he murmured as he turned back to Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao.         “Continue” he instructed.  Zhan Yao sighed.         “There’s not much else to go on for now…this is all we have so far…but whoever this killer is, they need to be stopped before anyone else gets hurt” he declared.  Du Cheng nodded.         “I agree” he replied as he stood up and turned to face his team.         “Let’s call it a day but I want everyone back here tomorrow and searching for anything that could help us solve this case” he ordered.  The detectives nodded and quickly dispersed as Du Cheng looked over at Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao.         “Where are you two staying?  Shen Yi and I can drop you off” he offered.  Bai Yutong smiled and waved his hand.         “No, it’s alright.  We drove here” he replied.  Du Cheng and Shen Yi looked at him in shock.         “That’s a far drive” Shen Yi stated.  Zhan Yao huffed.         “Yes well, he likes to go fast” he murmured.  Du Cheng and Shen Yi hummed as Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao dipped their heads.         “We’ll see you bright and early tomorrow” Bai Yutong bid before he and Zhan Yao turned and headed out of the department, Shen Yi and Du Cheng watching them walk away before Shen Yi glanced over at Du Cheng.         “What do you think?” he asked.  Du Cheng frowned.         “Of what?” he replied, looking back at him.  Shen Yi motioned to where Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao had disappeared.         “Of them.  You normally don’t like to share your cases” he stated.  Du Cheng hummed.         “You’re right, I don’t…but we also have no experience in dealing with serial killers.  They do.  It would be dumb to turn away their help” he replied.  Shen Yi smirked.         “Oh, so you do know when to ask for help” he teased.  Du Cheng tsked and gave him a fond nudge before he huffed.         “Come on, let’s go home.  I need a shower and a beer after dealing with this nightmare” he murmured.  Shen Yi hummed.         “Sounds good” he agreed as he and Du Cheng headed to the entrance of the police bureau, heading home. ~*~*~*~*~*~ Over the next few weeks, Bai Yutong, Zhan Yao, Du Cheng, Shen Yi, and Du Cheng’s detectives worked tirelessly to try and figure out the identity of their suspects as well as any other clues that could help them solve their case when Jiang Feng rushed into Du Cheng’s office, his eyes wide.         “Captain!” he exclaimed, making Bai Yutong, Zhan Yao, Shen Yi, and Du Cheng look up at him.         “What is it?” Du Cheng asked.  Jiang Feng smiled slightly.         “We found Fan Zheng’s car” he breathed.  Du Cheng’s eyes widened and he looked at Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao before he looked back at Jiang Feng.         “Let’s go, let go” he barked.  Jiang Feng nodded and quickly turned on his heels, rushing out of the room as Du Cheng, Shen Yi, Bai Yutong, and Zhan Yao followed behind. ~*~*~*~*~*~ When they arrived at the scene, other CSU officers were already there, taking pictures and searching for evidence.         “Anything?” Du Cheng asked as he, Shen Yi, Bai Yutong, and Zhan Yao walked over to the car.  Li Han looked over at him and nodded.         “We found this, sir” she stated as she held out a receipt.  Du Cheng raised his eyebrow and quickly pulled out some gloves, slipping them on before he reached out and took the receipt from her.         “What is it?” Shen Yi asked.  Du Cheng hummed.         “It’s a receipt for a truck stop not too far from here” he replied.  Bai Yutong raised an eyebrow.         “A truck stop?  Let’s go check it out” he declared.  Du Cheng nodded and quickly handed the receipt back to Li Han before he motioned for Shen Yi, Bai Yutong, and Zhan Yao to follow him back to his Jeep, the four men getting inside before Du Cheng stepped on the gas and sped towards the truck stop. ~*~*~*~*~*~ At the truck stop, the four men got out and quickly walked over to the clerk, all of them flashing their badges.         “Beijiang Police, S.C.I.  We’d like to ask you a few questions” Du Cheng stated.  The young woman looked at the four men before she nodded.         “Sure, how can I help?” she replied.  Shen Yi then pulled out the photo of Fan Zheng and showed it to her.         “Have you seen this man before?” he asked.  The clerk looked at the photo before she shook her head.         “I’ve never seen him before” she replied as Zhan Yao pulled out his phone and pulled up the two composite sketches that Shen Yi had drawn, handing the phone over to her.         “Have you potentially seen these two women here?” he asked.  The clerk took his phone and enlarged the photo before she looked up at him and nodded.         “Yeah, they were here.  They uh, purchased something then left” she answered as she handed him back his phone.  Bai Yutong, Shen Yi, Du Cheng, and Zhan Yao looked at her with wide eyes.         “Do you remember anything about them?” Bai Yutong asked.  The clerk nodded.         “Oh yeah.  They got my attention because they were acting giddy, which I mean, isn’t weird but like…most people aren’t giddy in a truck stop” she explained.  Bai Yutong, Zhan Yao, Du Cheng, and Shen Yi nodded before Du Cheng looked at the clerk.         “Did they uh, pay with cash or a card?” he asked.           “Cash” the clerk answered.  Du Cheng sighed.         “Of course they did” he muttered before he looked at the clerk.         “Thank you for your help” he thanked before he turned, Bai Yutong, Zhan Yao, and Shen Yi following after him as they headed out of the truck stop.         “Okay, so, people have seen them so that’s good” Bai Yutong stated as they walked over to Du Cheng’s Jeep.         “Yeah, the only problem is, we still don’t have any names” Shen Yi reminded, just as Du Cheng’s phone rang, making him look frown before he pulled out his phone and answered it.         “Hello?” he answered before his eyes widened.         “What?!” he shouted, making Bai Yutong, Shen Yi, and Zhan Yao look at him with wide eyes.         “Du Cheng?  What’s wrong?” Shen Yi asked as Du Cheng hung up the phone and looked over at them.         “There’s been another homicide” he stated.  Bai Yutong, Shen Yi, and Zhan Yao looked at him in shock as he motioned to the Jeep.         “Get in.  Let’s go” he ordered.   ~*~*~*~*~*~ When they arrived at the scene, Du Cheng, Shen Yi, Bai Yutong, and Zhan Yao walked over to He Rongyue, who was kneeling next to a nude body of a man.         “Same MO?” Bai Yutong asked, making He Rongyue look up at them and nod.         “Shot with a .22.  Four shots this time” she replied.  Du Cheng let out a growl and ran his hand through his hair.         “What the fuck” he whispered, making Shen Yi glance over at him and gently place his hand on his arm.         “Just breathe, Du Cheng.  We’ll catch them, don’t worry” he soothed.  Du Cheng huffed.         “We fucking better because I am losing my mind” he spat.  Zhan Yao hummed before he looked around.         “Same crime scene like all the others.  Remote back roads, body dump, no car…” he murmured as Du Cheng let out a heavy sigh.         “Do we have an ID on our victim?” he asked.  He Rongyue shook her head.         “No.  But I’ll run his prints through AFIS and see what comes up” she replied.  Du Cheng nodded.         “Please do” he replied.  He Rongyue nodded and motioned for the transporters to take the body away as Du Cheng pinched the bridge of his nose, taking a deep breath.  Shen Yi, Bai Yutong, and Zhan Yao all looked at him sympathetically before Shen Yi placed a hand on his arm.         “Du Cheng…let’s head back” he murmured.  Du Cheng looked at him before he nodded.         “Alright” he agreed. ~*~*~*~*~*~ Back at the bureau, Du Cheng, Shen Yi, Bai Yutong, and Zhan Yao sat in Du Cheng’s office, Du Cheng reaching into one of his desk drawers and pulled out a bottle of whiskey and a few glasses.  He then quickly poured some whiskey into each glass before he pushed them towards Bai Yutong, Zhan Yao, and Shen Yi, Shen Yi and Zhan Yao taking one while Bai Yutong shook his head.         “Gotta drive later, so, I’ll pass” he replied.  Du Cheng nodded and took his glass, pouring the extra liquor into his own glass before he knocked the whiskey, making Zhan Yao, Bai Yutong, and Shen Yi look at him in concern.         “Du Cheng” Shen Yi started when Zhan Yao sighed.         “I know this is stressful, but don’t give up hope.  You’ll catch this killer, and the city will certainly thank you for it” he assured.  Du Cheng sighed heavily.         “I know…I just thought I wouldn’t have to experience something like this” he muttered.  Bai Yutong huffed.         “No one wants to deal with serial killer cases.  Trust me.  They’re awful.  But by solving them, we’re taking a pretty dangerous person off the street so they can’t hurt anyone anymore.  And that’s why we became police officers, right?” he asked, looking at him.  Du Cheng nodded before he sighed.         “Why don’t you guys go home?  It’s late.  We’ll start back fresh tomorrow” he declared.  Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao nodded, Zhan Yao quickly downing the whiskey before he placed the glass down, he and Bai Yutong dipping their heads to Du Cheng and Shen Yi as they turned and headed out of the office.  Once they were gone, Du Cheng let out a heavy sigh, making Shen Yi look over at him before he placed his glass down and walked over to him, placing a hand on his shoulder.         “A-Cheng.  We’ll catch them.  Just like how we caught your shifu’s killer” he soothed.  Du Cheng looked up at him before he turned and buried his face in his stomach, wrapping his arms around him, Shen Yi smiling softly as he wrapped his arms around his partner’s head and held him close, gently stroking his head.         “We’ll catch them, A-Cheng.  We’ll catch them” he assured.   ~*~*~*~*~*~ The next day, as Bai Yutong, Du Cheng, Shen Yi, and Zhan Yao were staring at their plexiglass pin board, He Rongyue walked over to them.         “I was able to to get an ID off the fingerprints as well as dental records.  His name is Chen Zhou, age 62” she stated.  Du Cheng looked up at her and nodded before he looked over at Jiang Feng.         “Jiang Feng.  Run the name Chen Zhou and see if he has a car.  If he does, put a BOLO out on it” he ordered.  Jiang Feng nodded and quickly typed the name Chen Zhou into the database, humming.           “He’s a trucker, reserve police officer, and a security guard.  DMV records show he owns a car, so I’ll put that bolo out” he replied.  Du Cheng nodded.         “Good” he stated before he sighed.         “At least we’re getting somewhere” he murmured.  Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao nodded.         “And that’s better than getting nowhere” Bai Yutong declared.   ~*~*~*~*~*~ Thankfully, after the BOLO was put out, the car was discovered, and when Du Cheng, Bai Yutong, Shen Yi, and Zhan Yao arrived at where the car was found, Zhan Yao hummed.         “License plate was removed” he observed.  Bai Yutong nodded.         “Suspect probably knew that we were gonna be on the lookout for the car and didn’t want any cameras to catch it” he stated as Du Cheng looked at the car.         “And look at that: the driver’s seat is in the forward-most position” he declared.  Bai Yutong, Shen Yi, and Zhan Yao all looked at the car before Shen Yi hummed.         “Okay, so now that brings the body count to six…with a possibility of a seventh due to our missing person” he stated.  Bai Yutong hummed.         “Let’s head back to the station and map out exactly where our bodies have been dropped and see if there’s a pattern or something” he suggested.  Du Cheng nodded.         “That sounds like a good idea” he agreed.  They then quickly got back into Du Cheng’s Jeep and drove back to the station, Bai Yutong looked at Du Cheng.         “Is there a way to project a map of Beijiang up onto a wall or something?” he asked.           “The conference room has a projector.  We can work in there” Du Cheng replied.           “Great, let’s do that” Bai Yutong declared.  They then all headed to the conference room, Li Han and Jiang Feng following them.  Li Han then quickly projected a map of Beijiang onto the screen as Zhan Yao stepped forward, pulling a laser pointer out of his pocket.         “You just…carry that on you?” Jiang Feng asked.  Zhan Yao looked over at him and smiled.         “I’m a university professor.  Of course I do” he replied before he pointed to different cities around the map.         “From what I’ve just pointed to, it seems that the killer is drawing a circle around us and is dropping bodies along the way” he stated as he turned to face the others.         “So, they’re taunting us?” Li Han asked.  Zhan Yao shook his head.         “No.  There’s no real pattern to where they drop the bodies…but it does mean that Beijiang is their home ground, as most offenders don’t attack too far from home, as you can see” he explained, motioning to the cities that were just outside of Beijiang.           “So, what do we do then?” Du Cheng asked.  Bai Yutong hummed.         “For public safety, I suggest we release the composite sketches.  Maybe someone will recognize them, maybe give us a call about it.  If nothing else, people will hopefully be more aware and stay safe” he stated.  Jiang Feng frowned.         “Are you sure that’s such a good idea?  I mean, you know how people get with serial killer stories…it’ll be like a feeding frenzy to a bunch of piranhas” he reminded.  Zhan Yao sighed.         “Yes, it will probably turn into something much bigger than we would like for it to turn into, but unless we want more people to keep dying, this is our only option” he stated.  Jiang Feng made a face before he sighed as Du Cheng looked at him.         “Get the composites out to the media” he ordered.  Jiang Feng nodded.         “Yes sir” he replied before he stood up and headed out to the fax machine to start faxing the composites to every newspaper and news outlet in Beijiang.  While he was faxing the composites, Shen Yi looked at Zhan Yao and smiled slightly.         “You teach?” he asked.  Zhan Yao looked over at him and smiled.         “I do.  Why, do you?” he asked, tilting his head slightly.  Shen Yi nodded.         “Part-time.  I teach art history” he replied.  Zhan Yao smiled.         “Fascinating.  I could never get into art history.  I don’t really trust a lot of paintings” he explained.  Shen Yi frowned.         “Why’s that?” he asked.  Bai Yutong sighed.         “A very well-known criminal in Hong Kong called Zhao Jue used to hypnotize people using his paintings…Zhan Yao’s been subjected to a few of them” he explained.  Du Cheng and Shen Yi’s eyes widened.         “Hypnosis?” Du Cheng repeated.  Zhan Yao nodded.         “Zhao Jue was a prolific psychologist and incredibly smart, but no one recognized that hypnosis could be used as a helpful tool in crime solving so he basically caused a lot of problems for the Hong Kong Police Department” he explained.  Shen Yi frowned.         “He…caused crime…by hypnotizing people?” he asked slowly, as if he couldn’t believe it.  Zhan Yao and Bai Yutong nodded.         “Yes.  All it takes from him is a word or a gesture and you don’t even realize you’ve been hypnotized until it’s too late” Bai Yutong explained.  Li Han shivered slightly.         “That’s fucking terrifying” she murmured.  Zhan Yao and Bai Yutong looked over at her and nodded.         “It is” they agreed.  Du Cheng huffed.         “Let’s hope he doesn’t come here…then we’re really fucked” he grumbled.  Zhan Yao and Bai Yutong chuckled, just as the phones began to ring, making Bai Yutong, Zhan Yao, Shen Yi, and Du Cheng look up before Du Cheng sighed.         “Welp…show time” he declared.  They then headed out of the conference room and over to the desk, each of them picking up a phone along with the other detectives, beginning to answer the calls that came in. ~*~*~*~*~*~ Over the next couple of days, everyone at the Beijiang Police Department answered phone calls, garnering almost 400 leads as to who the two women in the composite sketches might be.  After a long day of answering phone calls, Du Cheng, Bai Yutong, Zhan Yao, and Shen Yi spent some time in Du Cheng’s office, Du Cheng rubbing his temples with his hands.         “If I hear one more trill of a phone, I’m going to stab myself in the ear” he growled.  Bai Yutong, Shen Yi, and Zhan Yao chuckled in agreement before Bai Yutong sighed.         “Did anyone get anything useful?” he asked.           “Uh…I got one that said the potential suspects could be a woman named Cui Shan and her girlfriend, Xiao Xia” Zhan Yao answered, making Shen Yi and Bai Yutong look at him.         “You got those names too?” Shen Yi asked.  Zhan Yao looked at him and nodded as Du Cheng frowned.         “I got those names too…” he murmured before he looked at Zhan Yao.         “Did they say that Xiao Xia was the skinnier one?” he asked.  Zhan Yao nodded.         “Yes.  And that the taller girl was Cui Shan” he answered.  The four men then fell silent before Du Cheng let out a heavy sigh.         “Finally…some fucking concrete evidence” he breathed.  Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao smiled as Shen Yi frowned.         “Only problem is, we don’t know who these women are.  We only know their names” he stated.  Bai Yutong nodded.         “Yes, but names at least get us somewhere” he stated before he pulled out his phone and dialed a number, placing it to his ear.         “Jiang Ling.  Need you to run a couple of names for me: Cui Shan and Xiao Xia.  I need whatever information you can get; I don’t care how you get it.  Preferably the legal ways but if not, I know nothing about it.  Understood?” he asked.         “Yes sir” a voice replied before the line went dead and Bai Yutong put his phone back in his pocket.         “Do I even want to know?” Du Cheng asked, looking at him.  Bai Yutong smiled.         “Probably not” he replied.           “When do you think Jiang Ling will get us the information?” Zhan Yao asked.  Bai Yutong hummed.         “At the latest, tomorrow morning.  At the earliest?  10-15 minutes” he answered.  Du Cheng and Shen Yi looked at him in shock.         “She works that fast?” they exclaimed.  Bai Yutong laughed.         “Jiang Ling is one of the best hackers in Hong Kong.  She’ll get us what we want” he assured.  Not even five minutes later, Bai Yutong’s phone rang, causing him to quickly pick it up and answer it, putting it on speaker.         “Jiang Ling.  You’re on speaker” he declared.         “They’re currently staying at the Metropark Motel in Beijiang” Jiang Ling stated, making Du Cheng and Shen Yi look at the phone in shock.         “How the fuck—” Du Cheng started when Bai Yutong smiled.         “Thank you, Jiang Ling” he thanked before he looked at Du Cheng.         “Better to not ask questions” he stated.  Du Cheng huffed.         “Well…it’s late.  Why don’t we call it a night and then head out tomorrow morning to check?” he suggested.  Zhan Yao, Bai Yutong, and Shen Yi nodded before the four of them exited Du Cheng’s office and headed out of the police department, Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao walking over to Bai Yutong’s white Lamborghini, which made Du Cheng and Shen Yi stare in shock.         “That’s your car?!” they exclaimed.  Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao looked over at them and nodded before Zhan Yao huffed.         “See what I mean by “he likes to go fast?”” he asked before he got into the passenger’s seat, Bai Yutong getting into the driver’s seat before speeding off, Du Cheng and Shen Yi watching with wide eyes before Du Cheng huffed.         “Must be nice to have a fancy car” he grumbled.  Shen Yi chuckled and patted his arm.         “I think your car’s just fine.  It’s comfy” he soothed.  Du Cheng smiled and looked over at him.         “You’re just saying that” he replied.  Shen Yi chuckled before he gave his arm a tug.         “Come on, it’s late, and I still need to feed Xiaoxuan” he stated.  Du Cheng hummed.         “Ah yes, can’t forget to feed the princess.  Let’s go” he agreed as they headed over to Du Cheng’s Jeep, heading home for the evening. ~*~*~*~*~*~ The next day, Shen Yi, Du Cheng, Zhan Yao, and Bai Yutong headed down to the Metropark Motel and walked over to the clerk, showing her the composite sketches that Shen Yi had drawn.         “Excuse me, have you seen these women before?” Du Cheng asked.  The clerk took the sketches and looked at them before she looked up at the four men.         “Oh yeah, they’ve been here.  They stay here regularly.  They always want room 8” she explained.  Shen Yi looked at her.         “Can we see the check in book?” he asked.  The clerk nodded and quickly grabbed the book, opening it up to search for the last known date that the two women were there until she found it and showed the four men.         “Here we go” she stated.  They then looked at the book and noticed that the name that was written in the book was not in fact Cui Shan, but Xie Yanlin.         “Xie Yanlin…there’s a name we haven’t heard before” Bai Yutong murmured.         “We should head back to the station and see what we can find out about her” Zhan Yao stated.  The others nodded and quickly thanked the clerk before heading out of the motel and back to the police department. ~*~*~*~*~*~ When they arrived at the department, they quickly headed to Du Cheng’s office, Du Cheng hopping on the computer before he typed in the name “Xie Yanlin”.           “Well?  What’ve we got?” Bai Yutong asked, looking at Du Cheng with a raised eyebrow.           “Says here that she lives not too far outside of Beijiang.  I’ll have Jiang Feng drive out and check to see if she’s knows anything” Du Cheng replied before he looked towards the door.         “Jiang Feng!” he called out, Jiang Feng quickly coming running.           “Yes sir?” he replied.           “I need you to check on a Xie Yanlin.  I’ll send you her address” Du Cheng stated.  Jiang Feng nodded, quickly turning and heading out of the office as Du Cheng pulled out his phone and typed Xie Yanlin’s address into the message bar, sending the message to Jiang Feng before he looked at the others.         “Alright, let’s see if she’s involved before we move on” he stated.  Shen Yi, Zhan Yao, and Bai Yutong nodded before they decided to step out to do some own work, with Shen Yi heading to his office to work on some sketches while Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao decided to call back to S.C.I. to see how things were going back there. ~*~*~*~*~*~ About two hours later, Du Cheng’s phone, making him frown before he picked it up and answered it.         “Hello?” he answered.         “Captain, I just went to check on Xie Yanlin, she’s not involved.  She’s never been to the Metropark Motel, she has no idea what that is” Jiang Feng stated.  Du Cheng hummed.         “So which means that someone else used that name and assumed her identity” he mused.  Jiang Feng hummed.         “That sounds about right” he agreed.  Du Cheng sighed.         “Alright, thanks.  Head on back” he instructed.         “Will do” Jiang Feng replied before he hung up.  Du Cheng then let out another heavy sigh before he stood to his feet and headed out of his office, heading over to where Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao were sitting and drinking coffee that Li Han was nice enough to bring them.         “So, what’d Jiang Feng say?” Bai Yutong asked, looking over at him as he stepped out.         “Said she’s not involved” he replied, making Zhan Yao and Bai Yutong look at him in shock.         “What’d you mean she’s not involved?” Bai Yutong demanded.           “Case of stolen identity” Du Cheng answered.  Zhan Yao and Bai Yutong groaned as Li Han looked at Du Cheng.         “So what now?” she asked.  Du Cheng sighed and shook his head, just as Zhan Yao frowned.         “Wait a minute…didn’t a few of the victims have stolen property?” he asked, looking over at Du Cheng, who raised an eyebrow before his eyes widened.         “They did” he breathed.  Zhan Yao nodded.         “We should go check pawn shops to see if any of the property was pawned” he stated.  Du Cheng nodded.           “Good idea” he agreed before he looked at Li Han.         “Li Han, when Jiang Feng comes back, you go with him to some of the pawn shops.  See if the women used any of the aliases there” he instructed.  Li Han nodded as Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao looked at him.         “What do you want us to do?” Bai Yutong asked.  Du Cheng smiled.         “Just take a load off for now” he assured.  Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao nodded as Jiang Feng stepped into the department, Li Han quickly standing up and walking over to him, grabbing him by the arm.         “Come on, let’s go” she ordered.  Jiang Feng’s eyes widened.         “But I just got back!” he exclaimed.         “Yeah, well, too bad.  Let’s go” Li Han ordered.  Jiang Feng groaned but followed after her, making Bai Yutong, Zhan Yao, and Du Cheng chuckle before Du Cheng headed back to his office, Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao hanging out in the bullpen, drinking their coffee. ~*~*~*~*~*~ Jiang Feng and Li Han drove around Beijiang for a while, checking different pawn shops to see if any of the missing items had been pawned or if a “Xie Yanlin” had visited and each shop they visited said that they hadn’t received any of those specific items nor did a “Xie Yanlin” visit until they finally reached one pawnshop who pulled their tickets and handed them one with the name “Xie Yanlin” on it.  Jiang Feng and Li Han’s eyes widened and they quickly looked at the ticket, which was for a box of tools.         “Box of tools…didn’t the box of tools belong to Tao Xue?” Jiang Feng asked, looking over at Li Han, who nodded.         “Yeah” she replied, just as the pawnshop owner looked at them.         “Found another ticket” he stated, handing it to them.  Li Han quickly took it and looked at it, Jiang Feng looking over her shoulder.         “A…radar detective and a 35-milimeter camera” he murmured.         “Those were the items stolen from Ren Wu’s car” Li Han stated as she looked at the ticket.         “How come there’s no thumbprint on this one?” she asked, looking at the pawnshop owner.  The owner shook his head.         “Couldn’t get it at the time” he replied as Jiang Feng looked down at the other ticket.         “But this one has one” he stated, showing it to Li Han.  Li Han looked at it before she looked at the pawnshop owner.         “We’re going to take this into evidence.  We’ll return it” she stated.  The pawnshop owner nodded as Li Han handed him the ticket with no fingerprint on it before she and Jiang Feng turned and headed out of the shop, heading back to the police department. ~*~*~*~*~*~ When they returned to the department, Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao looked at them.         “Did you get something?” Bai Yutong asked.  Li Han and Jiang Feng nodded, Li Han holding up the pawnshop ticket.         “Got a fingerprint.  Gonna have the lab run it through AFIS and see what she can find” she stated.  Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao nodded as Li Han quickly headed down to the labs to have them run it through the system to see if anything came up.   ~*~*~*~*~*~ About 15 minutes later, as Li Han, Jiang Feng, Bai Yutong, Zhan Yao, Shen Yi, and Du Cheng were waiting around for the results, one of the lab technicians came out of the lab and walked over to them, making Du Cheng look at them.         “Well?” he asked.  The lab technician sighed.         “At first when we ran it through AFIS, we got a “No Hit”, so we decided to do a manual fingerprint search” she explained.           “And?” Bai Yutong inquired.  The lab technician then held out a fingerprint record to him, which he took before he looked it over.         “Lu Yuan?” he read aloud.  Everyone in the room fell silent before Li Han quickly hopped on her computer and typed in the name, humming.         “Lu Yuan…she’s been arrested for possession of a weapon and skipping out on bond” she stated before she looked up at Du Cheng.         “Captain, we have a booking photo and an outstanding warrant” she stated.  Du Cheng’s eyes widened as he whipped his head towards her.         “We have a what?” he exclaimed.  Li Han nodded before her fingers flew over the keys again as she continued to search Lu Yuan’s criminal history, letting out a gasp whenever a new page popped up.         “Uh, Captain…Lu Yuan’s not…not her real name” she stated, making Du Cheng and the others look at her in confusion.         “What do you mean?  It was another alias?” Shen Yi asked.  Li Han nodded.         “Yes” she replied.         “So what’s her real name then?” Bai Yutong demanded.         “Yi Bing” Li Han answered.  Everyone stared at her in shock as Li Han looked at her computer.         “She’s not a Beijiang native…she’s actually from Huai’an.  And her height’s 162 cm” she continued.  Zhan Yao hummed.         “162…that’s a pretty good size for someone driving closer to the steering wheel” he mused as Du Cheng looked over at Jiang Feng.         “Contact the Huai’an Police Department, I want a background on her” he ordered.  Jiang Feng nodded and made to start typing when Bai Yutong held up his phone.         “Or I could just make a phone call” he stated.  Du Cheng paused before he looked over at him.         “You know what, make the phone call” he ordered.  Bai Yutong nodded and quickly dialed Jiang Ling’s number, telling her exactly what he wanted her to do before he hung up, letting out a sigh.         “Well…at least we’re a lot farther than when we started” he murmured, just as his phone rang, causing him to quickly answer it and put it on speaker.         “Go ahead, Jiang Ling” he instructed.         “Yi Bing.  Uh, no mother or father figure.  Says here her father was a career criminal.  Um, by the age of 13, 14, she was prostituting herself for cigarettes.  According to her file, she lived in an old car in the woods for a while and at one point, she bought a gun but was arrested for possession of a firearm” Jiang Ling stated.  Bai Yutong hummed.         “Thank you, Jiang Ling” he thanked.         “You’re welcome” Jiang Ling replied before she hung up.  As soon as the line went dead, Bai Yutong huffed.         “Alright…so.  Now we know who we’re looking for” he mused, Du Cheng nodding in agreement.         “Yes…Yi Bing and her girlfriend, Xiao Xia” he declared.           “Problem is, we don’t know where they are” Shen Yi reminded as Zhan Yao held up a hand.         “However, we do know that they always tend to gravitate back to Beijiang.  Like I said, most murderers don’t stray too far from their homes or their “comfort zones” and Beijiang is obviously their comfort zone.  Remember, all of the body dumps have been just outside of Beijiang” he stated.  Du Cheng nodded.         “Okay, so their home range is Beijiang…what do we do now?” he asked.  Bai Yutong smiled.         “Time to go undercover” he replied.  Everyone, save for Zhan Yao, looked at him in confusion.         “Who’s going undercover?” Jiang Feng asked.  Bai Yutong motioned to himself.         “I am” he declared.  Du Cheng frowned.         “But why?” he asked.           “Because I’ve done this before.  Many times” Bai Yutong replied as Zhan Yao huffed.         “And because he’s self-sacrificing” he added.  Shen Yi looked at him.         “Can’t you stop him?” he asked.  Zhan Yao shook his head.         “I’ve learned long ago that once he puts his mind to something, it’s very hard to stop him from doing it” he stated.  Shen Yi hummed as Du Cheng looked over at him.         “Sounds like somebody I know” he teased.  Shen Yi looked back at him and smirked, giving him a playful nudge as Li Han looked at Bai Yutong.           “How do we catch them?” she asked.  Bai Yutong crossed his arms and hummed.         “They’re barflies.  If we start working the bars here, we’ll eventually run into them” he replied.  Du Cheng nodded.         “Alright.  We’ll follow your lead” he declared. ~*~*~*~*~*~ Over the next ten days, Bai Yutong went to almost every bar in Beijiang, searching for any sign of Yi Bing or Xiao Xia.  If the bar served beer, Bai Yutong went in.  After searching for two weeks, Bai Yutong finally caught a break.  As he headed into one of the bars and walked over to the bar to grab a beer, he noticed out of the corner of his eye a familiar face, so he turned slightly and looked over at a nearby pool table, noticing a woman with a scar on her forehead.         ‘Found you’ he thought to himself before he observed the area around her and noticed that Xiao Xia wasn’t with her.  He hummed softly before he pulled out his phone, sending a quick text to Zhan Yao to tell him to tell Du Cheng that he had found Yi Bing and that he was staying to hopefully try and talk to her.  He then put his phone in his pocket before he walked over to Yi Bing, who was sitting at the bar, and smirked at her.         “Can I buy you a beer?” he asked as he pulled out a wad of money from his pocket, removing a twenty from it before placing it on the bar.  Yi Bing glanced down at the twenty, then at him, before she smirked.         “Sure” she replied as the bartender placed two beers before them, she and Bai Yutong picking up the beers before clinking the bottles together.  They drank their beers for a while, just casually conversing, before Yi Bing motioned to the pool tables.         “Do you play?” she asked.  Bai Yutong glanced over at the tables and smirked.         “Yeah” he replied.  They then headed over to the pool tables, picking up two pool cues before they began to play, taking sips of beer in between each turn.  Things were going well for a while until, as Bai Yutong was getting ready to take a shot, Yi Bing raised her pool stick and cracked it across his back, causing his eyes to widen as he hit his knees, gasping in pain.  He stayed there for a moment, taking a few deep breaths, before he slowly pushed himself to his feet and glared at her.         “The hell was that for?!  Why’d you hit me?” he exclaimed.  Yi Bing, however, just reached out and wrapped her arms around his neck, looking him in the eyes.         “Honey, I don’t know.  I just comes over me” she replied.  Bai Yutong hummed and carefully removed her arms from around his neck and went back to take his shot, hissing mentally.  His back was going to ache for a while after a crack like that.  Just as he was about to shoot his shot, Yi Bing reached out and grabbed his arm, causing him to freeze and look over at her.         “What is it?” he asked.  Yi Bing smiled.         “We should go to 1%ers” she suggested.  Bai Yutong raised an eyebrow before he shrugged.         “Sure, why not” he replied.  They then headed out of the bar and quickly got into Bai Yutong’s “truck” (which he had borrowed to look the part) before heading to 1%ers.  When they arrived at the bar, Bai Yutong looked over at Yi Bing.         “You head in first, I’ll be right there” he stated.  Yi Bing nodded and hopped out of the car, making her way to the bar as Bai Yutong quickly pulled out his phone and texted Zhan Yao to let him know where he was and that he and the others should hurry up and get there.  He then placed his phone into his pocket and headed inside, walking over to Yi Bing, who was waiting for him at the bar.  He then paid for their drinks, and they sat there for a while, just drinking their drinks when Bai Yutong’s phone buzzed in his pocket, making him pause before he looked over at Yi Bing.         “I’m gonna go top up my tank.  I’ll be right back” he stated.  Yi Bing nodded as Bai Yutong quickly headed out of the bar, making sure that Yi Bing wasn’t paying attention to him before he quickly walked over to a nearby van, where Zhan Yao, Shen Yi, and Du Cheng were waiting for him.  The van door then opened and Zhan Yao quickly stepped out, slipping a wire onto him before he looked him in the eyes.         “You be careful” he whispered.  Bai Yutong smiled and leaned forward, pressing a kiss to his forehead before he stepped back.         “Don’t worry, Cat, I’ll be fine” he assured before he stepped back and cleared his throat.         “Can you guys hear me?” he asked.  Du Cheng and Shen Yi, both of whom were wearing earpieces in their ears, looked over at him and gave him a thumbs up, causing him to nod before he turned and headed back over to the bar.         “What about now?” he asked.         “We can hear you” Shen Yi stated in his ear.  Bai Yutong nodded before he turned and headed back into the bar, walking back over to Yi Bing, who handed him a beer.         “Took you long enough” she teased.  Bai Yutong laughed as he took a swig of his beer.         “Sorry.  Didn’t realize how empty my tank was” he replied.  Yi Bing smiled before her smile turn sad, making Bai Yutong raise an eyebrow.         “What’s wrong?” he asked.  Yi Bing shook her head.         “Nothing, it’s just…I don’t…I don’t have anywhere to live…no money” she explained.  Bai Yutong hummed as he unconsciously (but consciously) pulled out some more money, glancing at the bartender, who just nodded and placed more beer on the bar.  Yi Bing then looked over at him and smiled.         “I’d definitely like to stay in contact with you.  You’re my type” she stated.  Bai Yutong smirked, but his hackles were all the way up because he knew damn well that she wasn’t flirting with him…she was baiting for her next victim.  Yi Bing then sighed.         “It’s just that, you know, I’m so fucked up and so hurt that—” she started when Bai Yutong frowned.         “Why are you hurting?” he asked, trying to pretend to be concerned so that she would keep talking.  Yi Bing, however, just sobbed, causing Bai Yutong to look at her in concern.         “What’s wrong?” he asked.  Yi Bing sniffled.         “I lost somebody I was in love for five years…with” she explained.  Bai Yutong hummed, nodding solemnly.         “Run off and left you or something?” he asked, silently hoping that Zhan Yao, Du Cheng, and Shen Yi were getting all of this.  Yi Bing nodded.         “Yeah” she replied as she looked over at him.         “My girlfriend, Xiao Xia…she left me” she explained.  Bai Yutong frowned.         “I’m sorry.  How long have you guys been separated?” he asked.  Yi Bing sniffled again.         “Two weeks” she answered.  Bai Yutong hummed sympathetically.         “That’s hard” he mused before he looked at her.         “But you know, even though you came into this world with nothing…you still made it this far, didn’t you?” he asked.  Yi Bing looked at him with wide eyes as he tilted his head at her.         “Hmm?” he asked.  Yi Bing nodded.         “Yeah” she replied.  Bai Yutong then smiled.         “Alright.  If you did it before, then you can do it again” he promised.  Yi Bing smiled before she looked at him.         “Let’s go out tonight.  I’ll show you a good time.  Bring all your money and I know some places we can go” she suggested.  Bai Yutong hummed before he patted her arm.         “I’m gonna head to the restroom.  I’ll be right back” he stated.  Yi Bing nodded as Bai Yutong quickly headed to the bathroom, making sure to lock the door before he took a deep breath.         “Zhan Yao, Du Cheng, Shen Yi, you need to move.  If I leave this bar, I’m not coming back.  You’re gonna have an eighth victim” he murmured.           “Like hell” Zhan Yao hissed in his ear.           “Okay, just try and get her outside…we’ll arrest her on the outstanding warrant” Du Cheng stated.  Bai Yutong nodded.         “Sounds good” he agreed before he quickly unlocked the bathroom and stepped out, walking over to Yi Bing.         “You ready to go?” he asked.  Yi Bing nodded as she stood up, she and Bai Yutong heading out of the bar just as Du Cheng and Jiang Feng, who had been sitting in a car not too far from the car, walked over to them.         “Beijiang Police Department.  Step over there for a moment” Du Cheng instructed, looking at Bai Yutong and Yi Bing, both of whom looked at him in confusion as he walked over and grabbed Yi Bing by the arm, dragging her over to a nearby car.         “What’s going on?” Bai Yutong demanded as Du Cheng placed handcuffs on Yi Bing’s wrist.         “My name’s Captain Du Cheng of the Beijiang Police Department” he replied as Jiang Feng walked over to him and placed his hands on his hips.           “Can I see some ID?” he asked.  Bai Yutong shook his head.         “I don’t have any” he replied.  Jiang Feng then huffed.         “Let me see some ID” he ordered.  Bai Yutong growled.         “I already told you, I don’t have any” he snapped before he gave Jiang Feng a rough shove, Jiang Feng’s eyes widened as he stumbled back before he quickly pounced on Bai Yutong, doing his best to restrain him while Bai Yutong tried to fight him off.         “Can I get some backup?!” Jiang Feng shouted, two other detectives quickly running over to try and help him restrain Bai Yutong (which wasn’t surprising considering how strong Bai Yutong was).  After they had restrained Bai Yutong, who was really trying to sell the fact that he was not an undercover cop, they guided him and Yi Bing over to a nearby squad car, Yi Bing glaring at the detectives.         “I want to know what the hell is going on here” she snapped.         “You’re under arrest” Du Cheng answered, making her look at him with wide eyes.         “For what?!” she exclaimed.           “For a warrant” Du Cheng replied.         “What warrant?!” Yi Bing shouted.         “A warrant.  Four years ago, you didn’t show up for court” Du Cheng snapped before he and Jiang Feng placed her and Bai Yutong in the back of the squad car, Bai Yutong huffing before he looked over at Yi Bing.         “The hell are they talking about, a warrant?” he demanded.  Yi Bing shook her head.         “I don’t know” she replied before she looked at him.         “You’re probably an undercover cop, aren’t you” she sneered.  Bai Yutong looked at her with wide eyes.         “Do I look like an undercover cop to you?” he snapped.  Yi Bing huffed.         “I don’t know what’s going on!” she exclaimed.         “I don’t know what the fuck’s going on either!” Bai Yutong exclaimed, still trying to play up the part but it was pointless.  Yi Bing wasn’t talking.  He then sighed heavily as the door to the squad car opened and Du Cheng escorted him out, quickly shutting the door behind him before removing the cuffs from his wrists.         “Not bad, Sergeant” he murmured.  Bai Yutong chuckled.         “Yeah, well, I tried” he replied before he looked over at Jiang Feng.         “You okay?  I didn’t shove you too hard, did I?” he asked.  Jiang Feng huffed.         “You did, but it’s okay.  Really played up the part” he stated as Du Cheng looked at Bai Yutong.         “Think we have enough to convict?” he asked.  Bai Yutong shook his head.         “We got no gun, no confession, and no mention of the homicides.  We’re grasping at straws if we don’t do something” he replied.  Du Cheng hummed.         “Well, we can at least hold her for 24 hours, which should give us enough time to figure out what to do” he murmured.  Bai Yutong nodded.         “Let’s discuss that back at the station” he stated.  Du Cheng nodded and guided him back over to the van, where Shen Yi and Zhan Yao were waiting, Zhan Yao quickly throwing open the sliding van door to let Bai Yutong inside.         “Are you okay?  Are you hurt?” he asked.  Bai Yutong shook his head.         “No…might need to take some pain meds later though because she cracked a fucking pool stick across my back” he grumbled.  Zhan Yao’s eyes widened, as did Shen Yi and Du Cheng’s, before Du Cheng sighed.         “I think Rongyue has some pain meds back at the department.  You can ask her for some” he stated as he got into the driver’s seat and turned on the van, Zhan Yao quickly sliding the van door shut before quickly removing Bai Yutong’s wire, leaning against him when he was done.  Bai Yutong chuckled and pressed a kiss to his hair as Du Cheng shifted the van into drive and drove away from the bar, heading back to the police department. ~*~*~*~*~*~ Back at the police department, after Bai Yutong had taken some pain medication, he addressed the squad.         “Alright, so as you all probably heard, Yi Bing feels very strongly for Xiao Xia and she’s very upset that they broke up.  She’d probably do anything for her, so if we can get her to talk…maybe we can get a confession” he stated.           “Think Jiang Ling can get us an address or a phone number?” Du Cheng asked.  Bai Yutong nodded.         “Probably” he replied, quickly pulling out his phone and texting the request to Jiang Ling before he sat down in a nearby chair, letting out a groan.         “Fuck, my back” he muttered.  Zhan Yao looked at him in concern, just as his phone buzzed, causing him to pull it out of his pocket before looking at Du Cheng.         “Jiang Ling got a phone number” he stated, handing the phone to Du Cheng, who quickly took it and pressed the number before placing the phone to his ear.         “Is this Xiao Xia?” he asked after a moment.         “Yes, Xiao Xia, this is Captain Du Cheng of the Beijiang Police Department.  We need you to come down to the department to answer some questions for us.  I’ll have one of my detectives come and fetch you.  Thank you” he thanked before he hung up and handed the phone back to Zhan Yao, who looked over at Li Han.         “I’ll send you Xiao Xia’s address” he stated.  Li Han nodded and Zhan Yao quickly sent her the address, Li Han turning and heading out of the department to go pick Xiao Xia up. ~*~*~*~*~*~ When Li Han returned, Xiao Xia was following behind her, looking around with scared eyes.         “Xiao Xia” Du Cheng called out, making Xiao Xia look over at him as he smiled.         “Thank you for coming.  If you’ll just follow us” he stated before he and Shen Yi turned and headed to the interrogation room, Xiao Xia quickly following after them.  As they headed to the interrogation room, Jiang Feng sighed.         “Let’s hope she’s willing to help cuz if not…we are fucked” he grumbled.  Bai Yutong huffed.         “Ain’t that the truth” he agreed. ~*~*~*~*~*~ In the interrogation room, Shen Yi and Du Cheng sat across from Xiao Xia, both men looking kindly at her.         “So, Xiao Xia” Shen Yi started, making Xiao Xia look at him.         “How do you know Yi Bing?” he asked.  Xiao Xia sighed.         “We met at a bar through some mutual friends.  We lived together for four years and started out as lovers but later we were just like sisters more” she explained, a slight tremble in her voice.           “Okay, Xiao Xia…tell us what happened” Du Cheng instructed.  Xiao Xia nodded before she sighed.         “She came home one morning with a two-door Cadillac” she started.         “Okay, and this would have been about when?” Du Cheng asked.         “December of last year” Xiao Xia answered.  Du Cheng nodded.         “Okay, continue” he instructed.  Xiao Xia nodded.         “We were sitting on the living room floor and she openly confessed that she had shot and killed a man that day” she stated.  Shen Yi and Du Cheng nodded as Shen Yi quickly scribbled something down on his notepad, showing it to Du Cheng. Ren Wu Du Cheng nodded as Xiao Xia shook her head.         “At first, I didn’t believe her, ‘cause she lies about a lot of things.  But then I saw it on the news about a week later” she explained.  Du Cheng and Shen Yi nodded slowly as Xiao Xia shook her head.         “I don’t want to go to prison” she whimpered.  Du Cheng sighed.         “Well, we’ll talk to the prosecutor and see what they want to do” he replied.  Xiao Xia then looked at him with big eyes.         “I’ll help you” she offered.  Du Cheng and Shen Yi raised an eyebrow.         “Help us?  With what?” Shen Yi asked.         “Getting a confession out of Yi Bing” Xiao Xia declared.  Du Cheng and Shen Yi looked at her before they nodded.         “Alright” Du Cheng agreed before he and Shen Yi stood up, heading out of the interrogation room and back over to Du Cheng’s office, where Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao had moved to.         “She’s decided to help us” Du Cheng declared.  Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao looked up at him with wide eyes.         “Help us?  With what?” Bai Yutong asked.         “Get a confession” Shen Yi answered.  Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao’s eyes widened before they both nodded.         “Alright” they agreed. ~*~*~*~*~*~ After Xiao Xia had agreed to help them, the four men quickly set her up in a motel room before Du Cheng held out a pad and a pen, Xiao Xia quickly writing a note to the jail with the name of the hotel and a number that Yi Bing could call.  Du Cheng then quickly stepped out of the room to deliver the letter to the jail as Zhan Yao looked at Xiao Xia.         “Prove to her how scared you are.  Make her believe it” he instructed.  Xiao Xia nodded as Bai Yutong placed a recording device on the phone receiver so that he and the others could record the conversation as evidence before he, Shen Yi, and Zhan Yao placed headphones on so that they could also hear the conversation.  A few minutes after he had placed the listening device on the phone, the phone rang, making everyone look at the phone with wide eyes before Bai Yutong handed the phone over to Xiao Xia and clicked the “record” button on the recording device as Xiao Xia picked up the phone.         “Hello?” she answered.         “Xiao Xia!” Yi Bing greeted, a happy note in her voice.         “A-Bing, what the hell is going on?  They’ve called.  They’ve been up to my parents’ again, they’ve got jie and now they’re asking her questions…I don’t know what’s going on” Xiao Xia whimpered.           “Why are they asking your sister questions?” Yi Bing demanded.  Xiao Xia shook her head.         “I don’t know” she whined before she sniffled.         “A-Bing, I think they’re coming after me, I know they are” she whimpered.           “No, they’re not, you’re innocent.  I’m not going to let you go to jail…you hear me?” Yi Bing declared, just as Xiao Xia let out a sob.           “You evidently don’t love me anymore, you don’t trust me or anything.  You’re gonna get me in trouble for something I didn’t do” she sobbed.         “I said I’m not!” Yi Bing snapped, Xiao Xia whimpering in reply.  As she spoke to Yi Bing, Bai Yutong, Shen Yi, and Zhan Yao watched, Zhan Yao studying her the entire time.  He could tell that her emotions were genuine and not put on and he wasn’t going to lie, it was a little hard to watch.         “Why the hell did you do this?” Xiao Xia whimpered.         “Huh?” Yi Bing asked.         “Why did you do this?” Xiao Xia repeated, just as Yi Bing let out a sob.         “I don’t know” she whimpered before she cleared her throat.         “Listen, A-Xia” she started.         “What?” Xiao Xia sniffled.         “I’m probably never gonna see you again, you know that?” Yi Bing croaked.         “Yes” Xiao Xia whimpered.         “I love you” Yi Bing whispered before both she and Xiao Xia sobbed, causing Bai Yutong, Zhan Yao, and Shen Yi to look at each other; they weren’t going to lie, it was hard to listen to…but they needed Yi Bing to confess, so they had to push on.         “If I have to confess everything just to keep you out of trouble, I will” Yi Bing declared, making Bai Yutong, Shen Yi, and Zhan Yao to look at each other with wide eyes as Xiao Xia nodded.         “Okay” she whimpered.           “So don’t worry, okay?” Yi Bing instructed.         “Okay” Xiao Xia sobbed.           “I love you” Yi Bing declared, causing Xiao Xia to scoff.         “Well, do it now, get it over with” she instructed.         “Right this very moment?” Yi Bing asked.         “Yes, get it over with” Xiao Xia replied.           “Alright.  I love you” Yi Bing agreed.         “Okay, bye” Xiao Xia bid, hanging up the phone.  After she had hung up the phone, she burst into tears, causing Zhan Yao to smile softly as he removed his headphones and walked over to her, placing a gentle hand on her arm.         “You did good, A-Xia” he whispered before he looked over at Bai Yutong, who had turned off the recording.         “Take me to the jail.  I want to be the one to talk to Yi Bing” he declared.  Bai Yutong nodded as Shen Yi pulled out his phone.         “I’ll text Du Cheng and let him know we’re on our way” he declared.  Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao nodded, Zhan Yao giving Xiao Xia’s shoulder another squeeze.         “Officers will be right outside your door.  You’re safe here” he soothed before he, Bai Yutong, and Shen Yi headed out of the room and over to Bai Yutong Lamborghini, the three men getting in before they headed to the jail. ~*~*~*~*~*~ When they arrived at the jail, they were let in by the corrections officers before being handed visitor badges, Bai Yutong, Shen Yi, and Du Cheng hanging back as Zhan Yao followed an officer to a private room, where Yi Bing was waiting.  Zhan Yao and the officer then stepped inside, Yi Bing raising an eyebrow at Zhan Yao.         “Who are you?” she asked.  Zhan Yao smiled.         “Dr. Zhan Yao, S.C.I.” he replied as he walked over to the chair in front of her and sat down while the corrections officer walked over to the camera that was set up in the room and turned it on, making sure it was recording before he looked at Zhan Yao and nodded.  Once he got the nod, Zhan Yao looked at Yi Bing.         “So, you’re voluntarily coming forward to talk to us now” he stated.  Yi Bing nodded.         “Yes.  To let you know that I’m the one that did the killings” she replied.  Zhan Yao’s eyes widened slightly before he nodded slowly.         “Okay” he agreed as Yi Bing crossed her arms.         “I know that I don’t want my girlfriend involved because she did not do anything and I’m trying to make this clear, which is why I’m confessing” she declared.  Zhan Yao nodded.         “I understand” he replied before he looked at her.         “Why did you do it?” he asked.  Yi Bing shook her head.         “I don’t understand why I did it, I just don’t” she replied before she began to cry, tears streaming down her cheeks.         “I—I just don’t.  I should have never done it” she whimpered.  Zhan Yao nodded as he reached over, grabbing a few tissues before handing it to her, Yi Bing taking them to dry her eyes before she sniffled.         “See, most of the times, I was drunk as hell, and I was a professional prostitute” she continued.  Zhan Yao nodded again before he looked at her.         “Did you think they were going to do something to you?” he asked, his voice gentle but professional.  Yi Bing nodded.         “Yeah…yeah, they were bad, ‘cause they were going to hurt me.  They were either going to physically beat me up, rape me, or kill me.  And I didn’t know which one.  So I just turned around and did my fair play before I could get hurt” she replied.  Zhan Yao nodded slowly.         “I see” he murmured before he looked over at the corrections officer, nodding to him.  The officer nodded and stopped the recording as Zhan Yao stood to his feet and dipped his head to Yi Bing.         “Thank you for coming forward and being willing to talk to me” he thanked.  Yi Bing nodded before she stood up, another corrections officer leading her out as Zhan Yao and the other corrections officer headed back over to Du Cheng, Bai Yutong, and Shen Yi, the four men handing back their visitor badges before they headed out of the jail.  As they walked away, Du Cheng looked over at Zhan Yao.         “So, did she say why she did it?” he asked.  Zhan Yao sighed heavily.         “She’s claiming self-defense.  She was afraid that they were either going to beat her up, rape her, or kill her and so…she said she did what she had to do to make sure that she wouldn’t get hurt” he replied.  Shen Yi frowned.         “That’s what she’s claiming?” he asked.  Zhan Yao shrugged.         “That’s what she said.  But honestly, I don’t think she…or anyone else who questions or evaluates her, knows why she did what she did.  But she’s sticking to the story of self-defense, and that’s that” he replied.  Du Cheng, Shen Yi, and Bai Yutong hummed as they continued to walk back to their cars before Du Cheng looked over at Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao, holding out his hand.         “Thank you.  Both of you.  For your help with this case” he thanked.  Bai Yutong and Zhan Yao both smiled before they reached out and shook his hand, shaking Shen Yi’s too before Bai Yutong smirked.         “You ever need anything, don’t be afraid to give us a call” he instructed.  Du Cheng chuckled.         “You got it” he replied as Zhan Yao smiled at Shen Yi.         “Good luck with your teaching” he bid.  Shen Yi smiled.         “You too” he replied.  Zhan Yao and Bai Yutong then headed over to Bai Yutong’s Lamborghini, Bai Yutong turning on the car before they sped away, Du Cheng and Shen Yi watching them leave before Du Cheng sighed heavily.         “It’s finally over” he breathed.  Shen Yi nodded.         “It’s finally over” he agreed.  Du Cheng then looked over at him and smiled.         “Let’s go home” he declared.  Shen Yi smiled and nodded in reply as they got into Du Cheng’s Jeep, quickly reversing away from the jail before heading home to some much needed rest after a very stressful case.

here's a few reminders for the mxtx fandom
1. Wei Wuxian had 2 older sister figures in his life and they both died trying to save him and in the end failed since he died anyway. (RIP Wen Qing and Jiang Yanli)
2. Mu Qing only ever had his mom other than XL and FX and she died a mortal death. We don't know anything about FX's mortal family.
3. Wen Ning was experimented on for 13 years in captivity after seeing his sister's ashes and blames himself still for wwx's downfall
4. He Xuan cannot leave the world even after his revenge to Shi Wudu and is purposeless for all of his immortal life.
5. Jin Ling will never taste her mom's handmade favourite soup.
6. Canon Feng Xin and Mu Qing do not know what happened at the temple to Xie Lian.
7. Jiang Cheng will probably never be good enough in his own eyes (until he has like grand-nephews or something)
8. Shi Qingxuan will (probably) die a mortal death.
9. Some of Nie Huaisang's last words to Nie Mingjue were that he never wanted to be a clan leader.
10. XL and WWX both tried to protect a certain demographic that got wiped out anyway and made them public enemies and reason for their eventual downfall making it essentially ineffective.
11. All the calamities are actually gods who could or did ascend heaven.
12. Xiao Xingchen killed himself after finding out he wiped out villages full of innocent people and his own best friend who he gave up his eyes for. And realising his pursuit of helping the world was worthless.

There are many side pairings the fans desperately wish that they were canon. Which one was it for you? I know there are many more, but I tried to limit it to 2 side pairings per story, and also only use a character once (Jiang Cheng and Shen Jiu have a lot of pairings), so comment if yours isn't listed (these are side pairings, so no main characters).
