September 5-6, 2022 - it's been two years and yet here we are, Supernatural never disappoints.

Recently, @spnscripthunt shared some new scripts, including a production draft for Supernatural 13x20 Unfinished Business [x]. As with any script, there are parts that didn't make it to the actual episode or were changed. One part however gained some attention, specifically the very last dialogue between Dean and Sam (script on the left [x] and transcript from the episode on the right for comparison [x]). The part that wasn't in the episode was Dean's line "I lost Cass and it damn near broke me..."

A Twitter post about this was retweeted by Natalie Fisher [x] who referenced a panel at Jibcon 2018 where this specific scene was mentioned [most likely this panel: x, starts at 30:05], and made a few comments:

The above tweets sparked another discussion about Castiel being cut from various scenes. Many fans are disappointed and compare it to the finale and other instances where whole scenes and even mentions of Cas weren't making it to the final cuts, some bringing back the theory that Misha was in the finale and didn't actually know Cas' scenes had been cut out until he watched the episode when it aired. Other fans discuss how it's not at all surprising that the script differs and that and that there isn't anything else going on here other than a regular production process. In any way, Supernatural proves once more that there is no escape.

welcome to the cockles masterpost, a labor of love/insomniac hyperfixation.

i recently wrote this cockles manifesto, but after it got a lot of notes and i kept adding more links to it, i decided i should just go through my 8 years of archives and compile all the cockles posts in a much more accessible and navigable way. after everything with the series finale and destielgate, i figured we could use some happiness, and it turns out there are a lot of people who’ve never heard the cockles gospel.

important disclaimer: yes, i do think that jensen and misha have a private romantic/sexual relationship, but no i do not, in any way, think that they have ever cheated on their wives. we think they are polyamorous, which is a real and valid thing, and misha is openly poly. some people love more than one person, and that’s okay. their families are close and we love and support all of them.

second important disclaimer: despite the amount of innuendo below, this is not about fantasizing about two hot guys fucking. cockles is about the joy of witnessing two people who love each other and make each other happy and are disgustingly cute together. we’re not fetishizing, we’re just appreciating what they publicly share with us.

Jensen Ackles Solo Panel | JIBCon 2023 (February 25, 2023)

Jensen: “I do force my children to listen to my music” They really like Cannonball. They haven’t heard all the new album yet - which just dropped & is doing really well! Steve keeps texting him w updates about it being like #3 on the country charts (!) (x)

Ok. JJ has her own playlist that she makes Jensen play on the way to school. It has Taylor Swift, Harry Styles (which led to some woooooooo and a Calm Down!! From Jensen) and some song about a sunroof. (x)

Jensen: his 6yo daughter Arrow has taken to the piano. She hears a song & goes & picks it out by ear! For now they’re just letting her have fun with it. Thought about having her take lessons but they don’t want it to become un-fun for her when she’s just 6 (x)

Q about JA now seeing more of the production process. JA: turns out getting a show on the air is a monumental feat. So many pitches, the odds are so stacked against it. Safest thing a studio exec can say is no.  (x)  JA: “It is a hard business to be in. It is a business of rejection.” Been in the development process now for half a dozen different shows, & Winchesters is the only one that launched. (cryptic description of one other that had “big players”, but “timing wasn’t right”) (x)  (very thoughtful response on this whole issue btw - I failed to capture it all - clearly he’s been thinking about it a lot, about how to launch new shows) (x)

JA can’t find his phone  He wants to look something up to answer a fan q  (x)

Q about fight scenes: did you have any experience w fighting technique? JA: No, never trained in any of the fighting disciplines. But has done a lot of sports, thinks of himself as “fairly athletic”, so what he does is ask an expert what they’d do, then try to mimic them  (x)

opening fighting scene in Atomic Monsters ep (15x04) is favorite fighting scene of Jensen, and it wasn't even scripted! He just wanted to do something fun, so they added it into the ep  (x)

Jensen's stunt double, who he worked with since Dark Angel, went on to become Jason Momoa's stunt double when he [the stunt double] "got too famous"  (x)

The stunt coordinator on #TheBoys was so impressed by Jensen's great input that he started calling him "fight coordinator"  (x)

JA on stunts/fights: On The Boys, there are way bigger fights than SPN. On the Boys he rehearsed 2 wks for 1 fight scene (on SPN set it was like 20 min). Got to come up w different moves, even had some creative input. Stunt guy used so many of JA’s (x)  suggestions that he started calling JA the “fight coordinator!” Then when he landed the Big Sky role, The Boys’ stunt coordinator guy called up Big Sky’s and said “you’re getting one of my best fight coordinators”. & Big Sky then made him a hat that says “Fight Coordinator” (x)

I think that J2 wanting to be EPs is purely protection for them and their characters. They aren’t likely to demand writers do exactly what they say in but-picky detail, rather they want to be able to veto out of character decisions or things that do not service their characters or do them justice. Both have had to swallow things they didn’t want to do, but I think Jared has had to do so more often. He worked hard to show Sam’s development where many writers didn’t bother to.

Personally, I agree that J2 know their characters better than anyone at this point. I wouldn’t want to watch a reboot/revival/continuation where they didn’t have some creative control. But they both know they aren’t writers, either.

I hope they can get a continuation of even 6-10 episodes.

Yup. They acknowledge the hard work of writing and they've said multiple times that they don't want to write it and they know they don't have the skill to do so. They just want to be able to say Sam and Dean wouldn't do this and have it respected instead of ignored.

It's not about ego. It's about them being protective of their characters after being forced to portray scenes and storylines that didn't fit their characters. Jared has talked in public and in m&gs about how much it didn't fit Sam to work with Lucifer, much less crack jokes with Lucifer, without having a reaction after what Lucifer did to him.

Jensen has talked about how, in season 11, they had Dean return to hell, and the writing team in season 11 completely ignored Dean's history with hell, so Jensen had to put in a brief pause because the text had zero mention of any trepidation.

When Jensen talked about it in a jibcon panel with Misha, he was very generous to the writers, and pointed out how a lot of them were new, and don't know the history of the characters.

And it's not like fans didn't notice or complain about these storylines either. Jared has said that when he brought up the Lucifer thing, he was told by TPTB that the fans wouldn't care or notice. He knew that we would care and notice, but he didn't have the power to fix it. Now, he only wants to do Supernatural if he has the power to fix it.

They want to avoid those types of things happening in the reboot. They want to be able to say, "This is OOC for Sam/Dean" and have the text changed to fit the characters instead of the characters changed to fit the text.

Helloooo there.

Yes! We'll be there al 0830 pm tonight at ET time. Half an hour before the episode airs just make tests and solve any technical issues.

But as usual in our room we have a second airing once I can "aquaire" the episode to watch it once more without comercial breaks. And of course make use good use and abuse of the pause, to... well, have a profound observation of the scenes where Misha will appear. You know. FOR SCIENCE!

We use to do this secondary screening, with all the clowns of our Circus, to observe under the clinical lense of science (Aka fucking obsessively) all de Destiel interactions. We even watched random heavy Destiel Supernatural episodes, just to further our souls into the pit of our own hellerism.

So, yeah. We probably be there till 01:00 ET time if there is enough audience and hype to watch this episode, or other Misha/Cas/Destiel /Cockles thing related.

I'm planing to screen the Jibcon cockles panel while waiting for the episode.

Next week. For the next episode I'll be re-screening this pilot while waiting for the episode 2 of Gotham Knights.

Either way if there is enough demand, we can manage to open the room on a weekend on a more democratic time zone to have a collective meltdown when the episodes of the "sex scenes" are out. (I need a moment to recover from that idea 😑😅🤤)

"How can it be too expensive for a con to have J2?"

Ok, so cons have a specific budget for guests. J2 are extremely expensive guests, yes, even compared to some other people, like Elijah Wood. I hear the Js are 300k each. That's a number I've heard from a while from a variety of sources.

I hear that's the appearance fee, so airfare, food, hotels, etc, are on top of that.

Most actors, even big ones, aren't remotely near that. I hear Misha is currently under 100k, so it's much less expensive to put Misha with a J rather than a J with a J.

Y'all gotta remember that outside of Jibcon, the last con that had both Js went under. In order to cover a single J, the con needs to raise a lot of money or reduce the guests. Con organizers get a lot of pushback when they raise their prices.

"Fans will spend more to have photos with both Js."

Not necessarily. If a con can get Js back to back, fans will probably spend to get a photo with each J, but would they spend enough more to get a photo with both? Maybe not. And their fans overlap, so a con might be able to get more by having the Js at different times.

If the cost of a J is worth that of 6 other guests, it might make sense to get one J, but that's a big risk to get two.
