Via Morgan Cameron Ross at Twitter: “78 years ago today, June 6, 1944, James M. Doohan of Vancouver, led D Company of Royal Winnipeg Rifles ashore at Juno Beach. He would be shot 6 times, survive and go on to become Scotty on Star Trek.”

I figured she'd get a lift to space on some booster (this one is taking a lander to the Moon), but I'm tickled they found a Vulcan to carry her.
Her old friend Majel Barrett as well as Gene Roddenberry and Jimmy Doohan will also be aboard (Scotty also had a little bit smuggled onto the ISS years ago, thanks to a plot hatched by his son and a friend.)
I'm sure Leonard Nimoy wasn't forgotten, but he's Jewish: Cremation and heading off into space is the exact opposite of Jewish burial custom, which emphasizes the body returning to earth.

The rocket will also carry the ashes of other Star Trek figures including Gene Roddenberry, who created the series; his wife, Majel Barrett Roddenberry, who played Nurse Chapel in the original series; James Doohan, who played Montgomery "Scotty" Scott; and Douglas Trumbull, who created visual effects for Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
Nice they're getting Jimmy Doohan up there legally this time instead of smuggling him aboard the ISS, which he would have loved too.
It's where they all belong, up there with the stars.

🌀 ✨?
🌀 oo if the holodeck was real NGL id be seriously tempted to pull a Barclay... Now if it's real but the other stuff isn't? Yes. Data and Lore sim lets gooo
SFW answer: probably a beautiful lagoon with a rainbow waterfall that has perfectly clear and clean water to swim in or something along those lines.
✨ Gonna be real so TW for sui talk. Trek has kept me alive and I mean that pretty literally. I remember reading a story about someone telling Jimmy Doohan how they were gonna kill themselves but came to the convention to meet him and he said something like "I'll see you at the next one." And they kept alive and kept going to each con. I relate to that really hard. It's why I look forward to STLV so much. I've battled depression all my life and suicidal ideation often rears it's head. Ive never done it because I'd be afraid of fucking it up and that's an awkward convo with the fam.
Trek gives me something to be happy about when nothing else does. The more depressed I am, the deeper into Trek I get because it's either that or the knife drawer.
I realize it's probably stupid for something like a TV show to be my lifesaver, but it is. And I figure I may as well hold onto it as long as I can.
Sorry for the heavy answer! 😓

James Doohan talking in the 1999 documentary "Trekkies" about a fan he saved from suicide.
"I got a fan letter from a young lady. It was a suicide note. So I called her, I said hey, this is Jimmy Doohan. Scotty. From Star Trek. I said 'I'm doing a convention in Indianapolis, I wanna see you there.' I saw her. Boy, I'm telling you. I couldn't believe what I saw, that was... this kid was definitely suicidal. You know, somebody had to help her somehow. You know, obviously she wasn't going to the right people. You know... anyhow I said to her 'So I'm doing a convention two weeks from now in St. Louis and two weeks from then in something and you know' and then eventually she also came to New York, she was able to afford to go to these places and everything else so... and then that went on for two or three years, maybe 18 times and all I did was talk positive things to her. And then all of a sudden nothing. I didn't hear anything and I have no idea what was happening to her, because I really never saved her address, right? Eight years later I get a letter, saying 'I do wanna thank you so much for what you did for me, because I just got my master's degree in electronic engineering.' You know, that's to me the best thing I've ever done in my life and it brings tears to my eyes every time I even talk about this story."

More from the Department of Before They Were Star Trek Stars: Jamed Doohan in Bewitched, season 2, episode 12, "A Strange Little Visitor" (original airdate December 2, 1965). Jimmy plays the father of a young warlock Samantha and Darrin agree to babysit; hijinks and misunderstandings ensue.
This episode exists in color, but the only color copy I had access to was even more low-res than this.

This is some Star Trek (TOS) artwork my stepmother drew many moons ago and autographed by George Takei, DeForest Kelley and Jimmy Doohan. She said the actors were impressed and I hope you will be too! Posted here with permission.

f1 teams problems
-RBR: Never had a strong stable line up, team principal's a dannyric merchant, ugly racing suit but nice helmet, one controversial WDC that continues to be a blot to their name, one waste of rocketship (the driver can't drive. i'd steal it and paint it black for george fr)
-Mercedes: someone tell 'em to move on already!, shit PR strategies & social media marketing is bad BAD (peak cringe), #MentalHealthIsImportant but at the same time turns a blind eye towards the hate to one of their driver, allergic to appealing a penalty/stewards' decision, TP is constantly on a childish tantrum about AD21
-McLaren: one of their driver didn't have the balls to fight and that's why he never win even if he could, ugly racing suit, constant team orders to let the not winning driver past
-Ferrari: 'more like a national institution than a sports team'-Christian Horner, 2023 (he spilled), manchester united of F1, one of their driver needs to learn to stop bitching + being a dick on track, none of the engineers can engineer (esp their strategy + race engineer)
-Williams: Mercedes' Alpha Tauri (sometimes but they are better now), no money (they're better now)
-Alpha Tauri: 'we will run a Red Bull .... next year' = still sucks, graveyard/waiting room for red bull juniors, red bull's sacrificial doll sometimes
-Alfa Romeo: shit car ok driver, they're just there, jimmy neutron (their reserve driver) needs to stop liking hate about their driver (like ok theo u deserve a seat but let's not do that 😞)
-Haas: they're just there for the ride each week, riding too much on their TP's fame (recently better PR with KMag's interaction with his daughter)
-Alpine: THE GIRLS ARE FIGHTING, french, hired jack doohan to make up & hide their drivers' issues with e/o
-Aston Martin: 🤑 money money money, don't know how to protect their driver (lance) against hate, alonso carried too much, GOAT in the beginning FLOP at the end, their reserve driver should watch what he likes/retweet/post

Hey is your last name pronounced Dew-Anne or Dewayne? I keep tongue-tying myself 😆
In my family, we always pronounced it "doo-WAYNE". (And I continue to.) Of course, then you get to Ireland and discover that the majority of people here pronounce it "DOO-uhn"*, so that the guy behind the counter winds up standing there repeatedly shouting your name while your coffee gets cold.
Anyway, we've probably been mispronouncing it for the guts of a hundred years. (shrug) What can one say, except maybe "My bad"? :)
*Though this also suggests that for a number of complicated reasons, Jimmy Doohan and I may have been related (because a lot of name-spellings got screwed up at Ellis Island and other immigration centers, last century.)

A couple of things I have learned of late (coupled with things I’ve known forever):
Despite Jimmy Doohan having lovely hair (and a gorgeous widow’s peak), Star Trek actually did the second worst job of styling it out of all the stuff I’ve managed to dig up that he acted in.  Which is a fucking lot.
(The first worst isn’t worth mentioning because I believe it should be considered an actual war crime committed by the Canadian government.)
But for real, the stylists for Trek dropped the ball; maybe they were worried if they did it too well, certain peoples’ toupee would have been outclassed. >.>
The man really didn’t age in any normal fashion from like-- twenty-one to almost forty, and even then, it’s really only that furrow between his eyebrows that starts to stick, and his face gets a little harder.  You can’t take a look at him at thirty-five without thinking, “Jesus, he looks like he’s in his mid-twenties.”
No, really, I managed to find something he was in when he was only thirty, and while the video quality was awful, he was so baby-faced in it that he looked a little like a teenager in a high school play with his pencil-thin mustache.  I can see why he was given a hard time while he was in the military.
He can for real display six emotions in under three seconds using only his eyebrows (which are also fucking perfect, let me tell you, I know because I also have perfect eyebrows and we can smell our own) and while that might not come as a shock, it’s still worth noting and admiring.  (Also, Trek writers didn’t give him nearly enough red meat; he actually can act.  I know, it was a different era, but still.)
