The new Minato manga oneshot came out and confirmed something a lot of people had theorized about: Minato sucked at naming things even back when he created the jutsu, so his name for the Rasengan was comically lame and overly long, and Kushina was the one who shortened it to Rasengan, which he started using as the official name afterwards.
His original name for the Rasengan, based off an earlier scene where Jiraya used an ice cream and his hair as a metaphor, was “Halo Hair Whorl of Jiraiya Inspired By Frozen Dessert Twin Style Sphere”; it's really cute that Kishimoto not only remembered the fact that he gave Minato the quirk of giving things comically long names, but also offered a pretty solid explanation and story as to why the Rasengan had a really simple and straightforward name in spite of that.
I do like that the Rasengan, Naruto's most iconic jutsu, was inspired by both of his parents. Minato may have created the Rasengan, but Kushina was the one to give it the iconic name because Minato can't be trusted to name anything.
It's also just a quirk that I like. Minato having complicated names and being kinda a dork is endearing for him, especially with the little backstory he got compared to some of the other Hokages.

This drabble is an original work by @mixu and me for Day 15 (prompt: Celebrity/Icon/Model AU) and 26 (Holding hands) of snsmonth.
You can find it in Ao3 as well:
Enjoy ✨
Shall the world see where we belong
Naruto breathed in deeply, his fingers squeezing Sasuke’s.
“Are you okay?” His boyfriend inquired softly, his thumb stroking the skin of his palm in small circles.
The blonde nodded, his free hand rising to loosen the red tie slightly — he was about to fucking choke on that shit.
Sasuke pecked his cheek gently, “If you want, we can wait until-”
“I’m sure.” Naruto’s eyes locked with the dark depths of Sasuke's ones.
He was so tired of waiting. So tired of people speculating about their personal life, of acting for fanservice’s sake. He was so done with girls, and boys and everyone in between in the fucking world looking at Sasuke as if he was an available hot piece of ass-
His jaw clenched.
Ok, admittedly Sasuke was hot — and he got a really kind piece of ass too — but that was Naruto’s property!
So, it was high time to state his claim. Publicly.
“Let’s do it, bastard.” He declared.
Sasuke’s smirk widened and he kissed Naruto’s lips one more time before opening the door and striding out of their limo. The crowd erupted in excited yells and disperate shouts of Sasuke’s name — Naruto took in one last steadying breath.
Squinting to make his eyes adjust to the flash of cameras, the blonde neared Sasuke — their fingers interlacing immediately.
Naruto opened his eyes again, side-glancing him. Skin burning, he took the Uchiha’s hand to his mouth, grazing his lips on the pale wrist.
The people's chaotic enthusiasm skyrocketed and Naruto wondered briefly if Kakashi and Jiraya would kill them that very night or would have to wait until next month’s premier.
But, truthfully, he really didn’t care.
The whole world would have finally understood Naruto and Sasuke only belonged to each other.
Did you like this brief narrative?
Leave your thoughts, don’t be lazy like Shika!

A big feature of the Vah Naboris dungeon was that big, eternally rotating disc with three holes on the camel’s butt that you activate with an electrical current. In terms of astral metaphors, the Gerudo is the only culture whose item descriptions reference both the sun (Daybreaker, the “desert sun” text around the palace) and the moon (the Moonlight Scimitar and its reference to long-forgotten “ancient festivals”). Given that a major game mechanic is the Blood Moon, which is an exaggeration of an irl phenomenon that happens during lunar eclipses when the earth’s shadows darkens the moon, giving it a rusty red color, I feel like the three circles are some kind of reference of the orbits and alignment of the moon, earth, and sun (particularly since lunar eclipses seem to be way more common in Hyrule than they are in real life, whether due to supernatural interference or some funky high fantasy stuff going on with how planetary orbits work in that fictional universe).
There’s a general theme of (electrical) circuits, cycles, and orbits in Vah Naboris. It’s got the strongest cosmic vibe next to Vah Rudania’s pitch black abyss full of glowing pink stars. The architecture of the camel’s humps make them feel like planetariums or observatories, their ceilings painted with the iconic false stars of the Sheikah, as if they’re classrooms meant to instruct visitors on how to identify and locate the various constellations they considered important. I feel like the “circular” themes of Naboris, as well as Urbosa’s cryptic comment that the Champions’ deaths were “how things had to happen,” brings home the themes of “fate” that are found throughout what we know about the ancient Sheikah.
It made me stop and pay attention when Impa mourned how her friends, the Champions, “died without fulfillment their destinies.” And then later, when Paya repeated her lines in front of the Jiraya guardian statue about the little guardian god statues “serving as signposts for us to follow,” and Link “walking the path we all should follow.” This idea of an immutable, unchangeable fate, some kind of plan Hylia wrote for her chosen peoples in the stars before her passing, seems to be a very sincerely held religious belief among the Sheikah, everywhere from the monks offering up their own bodies/souls to the future Hero to Paya carefully polishing and preserving the family heirloom orb in the hopes it will someday “fulfill its purpose” and therefore be complete. Impa, too, talks a lot about everyone “serving the same purpose” once she senses the souls of the Champions accompanying Link.
Which makes it very, very interesting how the Yiga seemed to have been like “fuck that” and abandoned Hylia’s Plan For Us All. It’s really rebellious and downright heretical, even if all it got them was 10,000 years of bumming around aimlessly and attaching themselves to another deity because they weren’t experienced enough with independence to figure out how to live without Fate or the edicts of some petty tyrant god guiding their every move.

I remember it like it was yesterday (which is weird because I can’t even remember what I had for breakfast these days). It was bingo night. I was sitting next to Jiraya who was chugging bottles of what he said was water. He was making eyes at the female employees who were coming around helping us with bingo, when the final number was called: B3. I WON! And though usually the prizes were shitty coupons to the McDonald’s down the road, that night id won a LAPTOP (though the keys were sticky and the screen was cracked. But hey it was free!).
The next day when I started up the laptop, the screen turned on and started giving me a strange logo I’d never seen before. Some picture of a black haired guy with a cheesy smile pointing to some windows?? But then again I’m too old to know much about computers, so it seemed fine to me! I clicked the only icon on the screen that said INTURNET and immediately the laptop said it needed an activation code! Oh but right then it gave me a phone number for a free support service. That fine young man on the other end was named something with a T… Thomas? Tony? I can’t remember… but he told me my laptop needed an activation fee, he emphasized cash only, And that he’d come pick it up in person. Well, the laptop was free so it wouldn’t hurt to pay an activation fee. Makes sense to me, right?
A fine young man came by the retirement home the next day. Poor guy was so underpaid by his company he was driving a foot-powered vehicle ☹️ I felt so bad I gave him the activation fee plus a generous tip. He was real handsome too, though his bare feet were a bit frightening to behold! He offered to “make my day” for an even higher tip… my poor knees haven’t been the same since!
After he took the money he wrote me a code on a stained McDonald’s napkin he had in his pocket. I told him to come back and visit any time, he was a bit rude but who cares, I don’t get visits from handsome young men every day ya know!
The only thing is the code didn’t work ☹️ poor guys probably so overworked he must’ve written it wrong ☹️
if y’all ever see him around tell him I need a new code!
ALEKS HJKSALS;ss THERE ARE TEARS IN MY EYES TOJI POINTING TO SOME WINDOWS STOP IT!! HIS BARE FEET WERE FRIGHTENING TO BEHOLD

Naruto (Comic AU)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My DBZ/DBS comic AU got a couple of likes, so I wanted to see what you guys thought of a Naruto AU where it's an American comic that began in 1974, created by Masashi Kishimoto. Unlike DB, which I couldn't figure out if I wanted it to be set in America or westernized Japan (to coincide with it's 1950s creation), I imagine "Naruto" taking place in a fictional country colonized by Japan and then westernized (but the Japanese culture is much more apparent from the get-go):
Tumblr media
1970s--Even though people say the Prologue-Land of Waves Arc is iconic, I feel like it was super underrated. I heard Haku was originally planned to be a beautiful boy, but the androgyny hit the censors and they made him a young woman (though this was retconned later). Honestly this period was really good for getting the franchise on it's feet. It's generally believed that it's darker subject matter allowed it to sell only because it was the Bronze Age of comic books, and had it occured earlier, it may not have happened.
Tumblr media
1980s--I swear, this is where everyone remembers "Naruto" beginning. The series received critical acclaim for expanding the cast of characters and the mythology of the series, especially in the Chunin Exam arc and Naruto using the alter ego "Kurama." Though according to my research, the Konoha Crush arc received a LOT of pushback due to the death of the Third Hokage, and there was this really weird thing in the Search for Tsunade where Tsunade was receiving sexist feedback from fans as well as frequent fetishization. I think they were trying to imply she was bi and in a relationship with Shizune, but again, time period prevented full exploration of that--though they were perfectly fine with the villain being androgynous…Then there was an implication Kabuto had feelings for Orochimaru. There was a LOT of baiting going on.
Tumblr media
1990s--This era wasn't bad by any means, but it was mainly focused on ninja missions, and while it may have felt slower-paced than the larger arcs, it allowed for more development on Team 7 and their contemporaries; my own favorite part was the transition of making Sakura less rude to Naruto (and I will admit the writing for a romance between her and Lee was interesting) and having a more mature bond with Sasuke, who often put his positive feelings on the back burner for his revenge against Itachi. This made the final major arc of the decade--and the century--the Sasuke Recovery Mission, all the more emotional and powerful. Though I call BS that Sakura and Naruto weren't strong enough to defeat Sasuke together (but I'm not going to Comic-Con saying that). Honestly Sakura was a trouper; she battled Sasuke, got defeated, joined Naruto's retrieval squad, and went full ham on Sasuke. The sound 4 are SO underrated, though!
Tumblr media
2000s--The turn of the century brought about big changes to the series, similar to the Ultimate Marvel universe and DC's New 52 relaunch--only "Naruto" didn't end up being maligned. Certain relationships were jostled around slightly and the characters were aged up to young adults in order to appeal to a larger crowd, as well as more suggestive situations. Though the boost in sales was unprecedented; the Kazekage Rescue Mission attracted a lot of attention due to the involvement of Gaara and the Akatsuki, though some people attribute this to the Kakashi Gaiden miniseries getting significant attention. I remember Sai and Yamato's introduction was a RADICAL change that was intended to be permanent because writer Hayden Watson found Kakashi boring and didn't see Sasuke as redeemable, but fan backlash and demand for Kakashi's return eventually made this change temporary. She also tried to put Sakura and Naruto together, but this was eventually unravelled as well, as later authors were big Hinata fans. The subsequent arcs seemed to only cause sales to increase, though the death of Jiraya gained a LOT of ire. Honestly I was also hooked when Sasuke formed Hebe, though I wasn't a fan of how this period was super fanservice-y with Sasuke and Hinata in particular.
Tumblr media
2010s-This era was WILD. No one could really top "Naruto" in this period's prime. Itachi's past was hard to swallow for some fans, though some sympathy for Sasuke was showered down for it's political undertones, and the Pain arc was SO satisfactory for Hinata's confession to Naruto; if I recall correctly, it inspired fans to make a petition for the publisher to make an AU where she was a part of Team 7. I heard rumors that this comic was actually gonna be made, but I have yet to see it (and if it existed, I kinda wanted Sasuke and Hinata to be together, but that's ANOTHER story). There were rumors she was going to die, but I'm grateful she didn't. I remember the Fourth Shinobi World War arc was selling like CRAZY. The titles that focused on this went hard, and it had me on the edge of my seat. I won't lie, though; the last two arcs were pretty confusing to me, concerning Kaguya and Madara and Obito. Honestly I'm just glad they gave Sakura a bigger role; even though she didn't have the lineage Naruto and Sasuke had, she wasn't discounted like I expected her to be.

Studio Pierrot reanimated parts of Naruto for the 20th anniversary and man. Good to know this series still has a choke hold on me after all these years. I never even finished the series.
Thank you for letting me know oh wow this looks so much better and cleaner and the way the original Naruto should have been!!!!!! I am still trying to finish the series so I’m not able to finish the video today bc spoilers (even tho I have been spoiled but have a poor memory so win-win!!)
also, I know you sent me this ask bc you feel compelled to join me and finish the show that’s right hold my hand we are doing this just message me babe I will guide you
And now I’m gonna share my fav screenshots everyone, so I hope you enjoy Naruto spam. Also will include the worst screenshots and why I hate some of the art/animations they went with:
Tumblr media
I LOVE Iruka so much adfk hdahdu hold me
Tumblr media
ofc they had to re-do this classic when gays in anime were invented
Tumblr media
Lordee have mercy this is good this is the feral Naruto we deserved
Tumblr media
A dad who is trying his best and his children!! However, disappointing that in almost single scene that Sakura shows up in she is crying lol (yes I know that is her character pretty much but this is a remake of something they could have shown other moments/altered a bit!!!). I also hate how big Sakura’s eyes are
Tumblr media
100% the direction they should go if they ever do a remake I love these shots with dif styles to convey intense emotions
Tumblr media
Feral Gaara!! The animation of the sand body morph was smooth! Yes!
Tumblr media
me and my cat arguing over the last slice of ham
Tumblr media
honorable mention of one of my favorite designs of Kishimoto’s: toad. Idk if he based these toads in some Japanese art style or stories but I just love the toads so much it’s such a nice aesthetic I wish Naruto wasn’t a fox I wish he was a toad boy always! Love u toad man. Fuck jiraya tho
Things I detest:
Tumblr media
bad cgi animations like coffins falling wtf the animation was so bad. If you’re going to reanimate something maybe DON’T PICK THE BEST ANIMATED EPISODE IN ALL OF THE SERIES if you can’t make the animation smooth of 2 coffin doors falling off cmon.
Tumblr media
the colors are WAY TOO bright. I am a slut for Haku’s arc, and part of it is the gray-ish, foggy ambiance in whatever land Haku/zabudaddy are from. I feel some of the reanimation has too much color and it doesn’t convey the right mood/artistic direction
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some characters’ could have re-designed and some moments are lacking expression. Just look above. Orochimaru’s fake exam body has ‘spaced’ out eyes that convey that this person is not all there, or in Orochimaru’s case, that the body is just a vessel. In the reanimation it lacks that, Anko’s forced smile, as well, is missing. This is just a specific example but that I saw in many other moments in the video.
Tumblr media
oh god. well. THAT aside, everyone remembers this and knows this moment as well as the back of their hand. Gaara’s head flops down and bounces from the force of Lee’s kick - in the reanimation, Gaara is just kicked. Also, his expression is supposed to be that of utter shock, not defiance or annoyance like above.
Tumblr media
BIG EYES LOOK BAD I know this is an anime and I am being unfair BUT CMON THIS IS TOO MUCH
Tumblr media
this is lazy... so much you could have done. Kishimoto rly can’t world build but you had the chance to remake this and it’s just this. Some mountains and hokage’s office and boring rooftops. whatever.
Tumblr media
The animation of kage bushin is so BAD you can’t tell from this screenshot so just go to the video and watch it. I do, however, like the idea that Naruto’s ‘pop’ smoke animations would be a whirlwind, considering his chakra affinity is wind. But the video is missing the iconic cloud-shaped smoke
Tumblr media
Again, love the different styles to convey insanity/intense moments but the windows music player animation in the bg completely ruins the moment (and it’s TOO BRIGHT, color could have been rethought :(   )

I saw that iconic scene of sakura breaking that creepy dudes hand for touching her creepily and by a leap of logic i remembered something when i was a kid when i'll be told like- "honey put your bra on your uncles are visisting" which ok whatever but like- Mother i am ten??
Can you imagine if Sakura had like civilian friends (or nuisances ig) who are pestering her like "Isn't it improper to be around so many boys all the time" or "You should wear a longer dress so no one get any ideas" and she's like-??? What?? Excuse me?? I am thirteen??
Sakura would absolutely not put up with that kind of thinking, and she has the full support of her team in putting people in their places (i mean, Kakashi spent that whole movie stopping Naruto from harming the kid they were guarding but did nothing when Sakura broke the creeps hand. He was actually proud of her for doing it)
Her dress is too short? Well maybe people shouldn’t stare and be creepy.
Someone suggests she needs to dress a certain way so people don’t get ‘ideas’? She’s gonna make sure if they do get any of those ‘ideas’ they’ll find out real quick why it’s a bad idea.
I would actually love to see Sakura dealing with creeps more cuz she does it so differently from Tsunade and i wanna see both ways. Like when someone’s creepy to tsunade (jiraya) she straight up pumbles them (it’s deserved) but sakura was in a situation where she couldn’t come off as rude so she went the ‘extra bone crushing nice’ route and i personally love it cuz she couldn’t get in trouble for being rude to the dude paying her but she got the point across (not that tsunade or kakashi would give her shit. Dude was being a super creep)
And honestly i hate sarada’s design but i think Sakura would support it because anyone who tells her it’s inappropriate or that ‘people will stare’ will get the response ‘they had better be ready to die if they stare at my daughter. If she doesn’t murder them i will’ cuz like, damn. Don’t be creepy to a kid?

How Minato Creates Rasengan
Rasingan was created by Minato (Fourth Hokage). And it has been developed.
Minato took inspiration for the creation of Rasingan from his mentor, Jiraiya. Jiraiya had invented this jutsu, and Minato had seen what its potential was.
Tumblr media
Minato used his observations and his skills to modify the Rasingan and personalize it in his own way. He used his unique techniques and chakra control in his name.
Minato worked hard and incorporated Rasengan into his training sessions. He has mastered the jutsu to perfection, in which his high level of chakra control was very important.
When Minato was on the battlefield, he used his Rasengan successfully against his enemies. He made his jutsu an important part of his combat strategies.
And as you may have seen in Naruto, Jiraya also taught this Rasengan technique to Naruto Uzumaki. This Rasengan has now become an iconic jutsu, which is an important legacy of Minato.
Thus, Minato Namikaze developed Rasengan using his skills and observation and made it his unique signature move.

I tried my hand at giving Naruto and Sasuke alternate post 698 character designs. Specifically this is Naruto and Sasuke some time during their mid/late 20s, I drew these while thinking about my take on an alternate manga epilogue (711646011745058816). At first I was just thinking about hairstyles but then things spiraled out of control. Their Shippuden hairstyles are drawn there for reference, as controls.
While Shippuden was is serialization fan art of older Naruto pretty much always gave him longer hair which is why it's so ironic that the epilogue Kishimoto gave him shorter hair. I gave Naruto a mullet, because I thought it would be funny. It would be so in character for Naruto to just randomly shave his head, I don't even think it looks good, but it's just so him. I always rather liked Naruto's sage markings, and since Jiraya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru all had theirs be permanent, why not let Naruto keep his as well since he had a better handle on the technique than Jiraiya. Another haistyle I considered was one that included Jiraiya/Minato's long sideburns/forelocks but it was too hard to make the hairstyle distinctly Naruto, he just ended up looking like Minato. I like to imagine Naruto picking up fuuinjutsu both to help Kurama and the bijuu but also to connect with his mother's family. So here he is with his chest out and covered in seal tattoos. He only has one sleeve down on the Hashirama cell replacement right arm, this is also the hand which is covered by a black glove with a sun mark on the palm.
I started thinking about different Sasuke designs because his hair in Boruto bored me. I wasn't sure what to do with him at first since while his cockatoo hair is pretty stupid it is also ridiculously iconic. I had the idea for longer hair fairly early on, the main challenge was deciding if when longer his hair would be more spiky like Madara's or more sleek like Itachi and Mikoto's. I'm still not satisfied with how it looks but in the end I went halfway, not as spiky as Madara's hair but with a few spikes in there. The main ideas here were very long forelocks and a ponytail. I did consider keeping his duck butt back while only making the front longer but it ended up feeling a bit young for him. For clothes I wanted to combine the sleeveless coat from his susanoo with the sleeves from his initial Shippuden design. Sasuke here did take up Tsunade's offer for a replacement left arm so it is always covered and he wears a glove on that hand with a moon mark on the palm. I did consider an off the shoulder asymmetrical kimono like what traditional archers wear but I didn't feel like doing more research.
Kishimoto Masashi isn't a particularly good writer, however he is an excellent illustrator and phenomenal character designer. I'm not a good character designer so while looking up references for Sasuke and Naruto in the manga I started really noticing all the little facial differences Kishimoto gave them. Like how compared to Sasuke, Naruto's face and chin are rounder while Sasuke's are sharper or more refined. Their eye and eyebrow shapes are both very different and so is how they emote with them with Naruto opening his eyes wider or Sasuke having more relaxed eyebrows (well when he isn't scowling).
