Here’s a bit of information about Johannes Josefsson, the Icelander who brought Brókartök Glíma to America. Josephsson was born in Iceland, and was a lifelong student of his native Glíma. He wrestled in the 1908 Olympic Games in Greco-Roman Wrestling, unfortunately being forced to withdraw due to injury. He followed his olympic performance with competition in several mixed martial arts and prizefighting matches, regularly beating jiujitsu and Judo experts, and on at least one occasion, subduing a bear. Josephson then traveled with a circus in Europe, where he refined his act pitting his Glíma against boxers, knife fighters, and multiple assailants. Josephson later moved to America to travel with Barnum and Bailey’s, meeting and competing with American Catch Wrestlers and of course, more Jujitsu exponents, knife fighters, boxers, and multiple attackers at once.
After traveling for nearly 19 years, Josephson retired to his native Iceland with nearly $120,000 to his name, where he opened a hotel he called Hotel Borg (fortress).
If you’re interested in Glíma, check out Vinlandhema on insta! We practice a reconstruction of the Viking martial art, including this material by Johannes Josefsson.

Another {Non Fictional}mini story by yours truly.
Claire had been sitting at a picnic table by the park while watching her little brothers. Her friend Alden had already taken his siblings home and had gone to get ready for Jiu-Jitsu.
Claire would often ask about what Jiu-Jitsu was like, curious and wanting to learn and Alden would tell her stories and show her videos of himself and his friends competing.
The female dreamed of getting to train again. She once joined a dojo back when she was 7. But that was at least 7 years ago.
A joyful cheer startled Claire from her alternate reality and her head swiveled to find both of her brothers happily playing on the swings.
Right behind the swings she could see Alden getting his siblings in the truck so they could leave.
He looked pretty much normal except for the fact that the tall teen was wearing a tight black long sleeved shirt.
Claire's gaze froze on her friend as she watched him walk back and forth from the house to the car.
He didn't look "cute" that wasn't it. It wasn't "handsome" either. 'Bleh' she thought, 'no one says handsome any way'. She was embarrassed to think about it but, honestly?
Alden looked hot.
There was just no other way to describe it.
The way the material hugged his biceps and torso, made a flutter-y feeling burst through Claire's chest.
She just wanted to watch as he carried more stuff to the car. But soon enough one of her brothers needed help with something and her attention shifted.
But in the back of her mind Clair wished more than ever that she could go to Jiu Jitsu.

Why Martial Arts Are Suddenly Being Exposed as Fake
I'm not crazy into MMA, but this is super interesting. And in the same manner that the octagon has exposed the lesser forms of martial arts for what they are, the best way for taking on bad actors and dumb ideas is not deplatforming, censoring, and canceling - which only pushes them underground and decentralizes them as to where they not only survive but thrive undetected and uncontested.
The best way to sort out good and bad ideas, misinformation, and disinformation, and to combat and/or defeat hate speech, mouthbreathers, snake oil salesmen, quacks, yahoos, and bigots is within the squared circle of debate; or in long form conversations in an atmosphere where I) ideas are openly considered and rigorously challenged and 2) people aren't living in fear for having their life and livelihood destroyed for saying the wrong thing and choosing to self censor themselves instead.

4 Reasons to Enrol Your Kids in BJJ
Jiu-Jitsu blends anaerobic and aerobic stamina, strength, and flexibility into a single exercise. It doesn't seem to be training because it's so much fun. When your child trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he or she will reap various physical and mental health benefits.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can handle bullies
Bullies aren't going anywhere soon, but your child should protect himself. Consider enrolling your child in Jiu-Jitsu classes by searching for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu near you.
BJJ is an effective and non-threatening way of dealing with bullies since it relies on ground-based self-defense strategies.
Your child can neutralize a bully without ever launching a single punch or knock by using a series of locks and holds.
BJJ relies on leverage rather than strength and control because it'll improve your little child's self-esteem, thinking he can deal with bullies even though they're bigger than him.
BJJ Helps Kids Socialize
BJJ is a fun recreational experience that allows your son to meet kids he would not have met otherwise.
Your child will learn about all other ethnicities, languages, and religions in a BJJ class because of the diversity.
Your child will also grow loyalty and closer relationships with his teammates as he trains with other kids.
BJJ teaches children to learn about their failures.
Enrolling your child at Children's Jiu-Jitsu Classes near you will boost his/her confidence. Your child will learn the techniques against an opposing opponent in BJJ, unlike other styles of martial arts instruction.
Your little child will face defeat when he/she first starts the preparation. But that's okay; even the most accomplished BJJ practitioners and black belts have stumbled and failed in their careers.
Your child will learn from the mistakes and concentrate on developing the skills with the support and advice of the teachers.
BJJ Helps Kids Build Healthy Lifestyle Habits
BJJ supports the principle of physical exercise, which will help your child develop healthy behaviours from a young age.
Your little child will engage in physically and emotionally challenging martial art as they perform BJJ.
This will help him steer away from the sedentary lifestyles that come with watching tv.
In addition, your child can learn to value teamwork, versatility, agility, and stamina as necessary components of BJJ success.
These reasons are enough to train your child with BJJ. Searching for Children's Jiu Jitsu near me or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu near me? Then Renzo Gracie Garwood can be a great option.
