“Come on kiddo, it’s bedtime,” your dada said. He came from behind the sofa and stood in front of the tv. The bright light illuminated around him, and you whined. The cartoon dogs could no longer be seen.

“Daddaaaa,” you huffed, stretching out. You were tired but mama wasn’t home yet.

“Come on, bath and bed.” He picked you up with ease and you curled your small frame into his side. He grabbed your blanket and tucked it between you both before heading up the stairs. You looked back, watching the sounds of Bluey fade.

“Dada no sleep yet,” you muttered.

“Bath time first,” he told you and entered your bedroom. Your bedroom was your favourite. The walls were your favourite colour and there were the most beautiful pictures of you, JJ and Will up on the walls. Your bed was at the side and it had a big canopy over the top, perfect for you since you’re royalty.

He set you on the edge of your bed and began walking around the bedroom, he also headed to the bathroom to get your bath started.

“Dada,” you huffed, crossing your arms when he came back.

“Yes baby?” he said, coming over to you with a small smile on his face. You loved his smile.

“No sleep dada,” you said. You shook your head from side to side, making your hair flop.

“Yes, sleep baby. You’re so tired.” He cupped your face and caressed your cheek with his thumb. You leaned into it. He knew that made you sleepy.

“Daddy I’m not,” you whispered, feeling your eyes get heavy. You let your arms fall and he began getting you undressed, smirking. You huffed again and tried to push him away. He tricked you. You pouted and he smiled at you. You didn’t like that smile.

“Angel come on,” he pleaded. “You’re stinky and need a bath before sleep.”

“I no wan sleep dada!” You cried out, kicking out your legs and dropping your head in your hands. You heard him sigh and the felt bed dip beside you. His hands slid around you and he held you in his lap. Instantly your breathing calmed down, surrounded by his scent and love. Slowly, he began to rock you and you clung to his t-shirt.

“What’s going on my little love?”

You whined and hid in his neck, not wanting to talk about it but he held you tighter.

“Dada’s right here.”

“Wan mama,” you requested gently. JJ had been on a case for a few days and you’d missed her like mad. You’ve never missed her as much as you have this time and you didn’t know why. She’d been so busy with working the case, her nightly phone calls had only been short. She’d also been gone a whole week - the longest she’d ever been gone.

“I know you want mama baby, I want mama too.” Will replied, holding you closer. He sat you up slightly and you sniffled, quickly wiping a few stray tears with the back of your hand.

“It’s hard without her, hm?” You only nodded, not trusting your voice as you only felt smaller and smaller. “She will be home soon.”

“Now,” you whimpered and curled back into him. He held you tightly and kissed your head.

He managed to get you in the bath and you splashed in the water. The bubbles were all around you and he sat at the side.

“Oh baby look!” He gasped and drew a flower on the bath wall. “For you.” You blushed and smiled looking up at him.

“Fankies dada,” you giggled.

“You’re welcome, are you ready to get out?” You shook your head, the bath was still warm which meant more playtime. “Okay, soon though. Dada’s going to get your bottle ready.” He kissed your head and left the bathroom. You giggled and carried on splashing.

You paused when you heard the front door open. Have you heard it right? Then you heard her voice. Your mama was home! Instantly, you jumped out of the bath. You heard your caregivers talking downstairs. You didn’t care that you were dripping wet, covered in bubbles and naked. You ran to the stairs and saw her stood at the bottom with Will beside her.

“Mama!” You screamed in excitement and began to bound down the stairs. She was really here! She was really home.

“Baby!” She gasped suddenly. You jumped into her arms on the third step and she laughed, grabbing you.

“Baby where are your clothes! Darling you’re all wet!” She laughed as she snuggled into her more.

“You were in the bath!” Will gasped.

“Ewww!” JJ groaned but you giggled and held on tighter.

“Angel, you came out of the bath?” JJ asked and you nodded smiling wide. Your arms were wrapped around her neck and she held you under your legs.

“You’re so silly,” she smiled. She put a soft kiss on your nose then took you back upstairs. You didn’t need to go back in the bath, you didn't want to even. That meant letting go of your mama and you did not plan on doing that any time soon.

“My little monkey,” JJ mumbled in your ear as she rocked you in her arms.

“Mama I miss you!” You whined, holding her tighter.

“I missed you toooo! So so much!” she smiled and clung to you. You cheered and kissed her cheek, snuggling into her neck.

It wasn’t long before you were almost ready for bed. You didn’t want to go to bed, you wanted to stay up with your mama and talk to her about everything you’d done without her. You wanted to cuddle her and listen to her stories too. You wanted to stay in her arms forever and feel safe with her. You wanted daddy to join to so it was the three of you snuggled up, chatting and laughing.

You sat between them on the bed. Your dada was getting changed whilst you sat in your mama’s crossed legs and she did your hair. Your bottle and paci sat on the side as well as a book ready for sleep. YOu wiggled as she tried to do the plaits, wanting to her to mess up so she had to start again.

“Sweetheart you have to stay still!” Your mama said softly, restarting the plait. You mumbled a quick sorry and she started again.

“Mamaaaa, I need wee,” you mumbled, quickly pretending to hold yourself.

“Baby one second, I’m almost done.”

“Mama nowww!” You wiggled and she lost the plait again. She let it go and you ran to the bathroom. You didn’t need a wee. You sat on the toilet, pretending. You really didn’t want to go to sleep.

“You know what she’s doing don’t you?” You heard your dada say to your mama.

“I know exactly what she’s doing,” she chuckled in response and you frowned. They don’t! You flushed the toilet and washed your hands before waddling back to them. Both of them were looking at you and you lowered your head - maybe they had figured out your plan.

“Come here, princess,” JJ whispered and tapped her lap. You sighed and went over, huffing as you sat between her legs. “Daddy and I know what you’re planning in that little head.”

“Nothing mama,” you tried to say but looking up at your caregiver, you knew there was no point lying.

“I know you’ve missed me baby and I’ve missed you so much too but you can't stay awake forever.” You sighed and snuggled into her, pulling your knees to your chest.

“I’m going to finish your hair and we can get you settled. Mama’s going to sleep with you all night here okay?”

You lifted your head with surprise, “you are?”

“I am, love. You and me are going to cuddle allll night long.”

You yawned, rolling over to get closer to your mama. She held you and slid your paci between your lips. You mumbled a small goodnight and love you as your hand reached up your mama’s top and around her. She chuckled a little, you felt her kiss your head and then she sleep took over.

it was late at night and you couldn’t sleep. you had come out of your headspace earlier in the day and had settled yourself down for bed. now, Will was fast asleep in his own bed and you felt guilty. he’d been busy with work recently so you didn’t want to disturb his sleep. JJ was out of town working a case.

you sat on the front porch, looking up at the night sky. it was chilly, but you weren’t shivering. you had your mama’s big coat on. it smelt like her and it wrapped around you so tightly. you missed her a lot when she was away, more than you’d ever admit. some days were harder than others.

what you loved most about your relationship with JJ was she was your caregiver and best friend all in one. that was how it all started, you were best friends and she knew about the regression. when she met Will and realised they were both infertile, they lost all hope until you regressed around the pair for the first time. ever since then, you’d been their little baby. their angel. but no matter what, when not in your headspace, you were still JJ’s best friend and she didn’t see you any less.

sighing, you sent her a text. it was a small ‘hey’, mainly just to start up a conversation. you wanted her badly, big or little. almost immediately, your phone began ringing. it was a facetime request and you smiled, picking up.

“hello you,” she cooed down the phone.

“hi,” you replied, rubbing your eyes. yes, she was your best friend but you were tired and just the sound of your caregivers voice wanted to make you slip.

“what you doing up? isn’t it like 3am?” she asked. she didn’t use her mama voice, seeing you weren’t regressed which you appreciated. you both knew that being small now, when outside and alone, wouldn’t help things.

“Will is fast asleep and i was awake watching a movie for a while then just needed some fresh air. how’s the case?”

“it’s okay. everyone’s resting now.”

you carried on the small talk until a big yawn escaped your small body. your entire body stretched out, feeling the exhaustion of the day come over you.

“why don’t you head inside?” jj said softly. you nodded, that was a good idea. “don’t forget to lock the door.”

you headed inside and slipped off her coat. you saw her smile widely as she realised it was hers. you blushed and hurried up the stairs to your bedroom.

“you in your pjs?” she asked, her mama voice was coming out more now and you needed it.

“no yet,” you whispered down the phone.

“get them on then love. have you brushed your teeth?”

JJ talked you through your nighttime routine at 3am and you sighed, feeling the regression really take over you. you slid to the bathroom floor after you’d had a wee, done your teeth and washed your face.

“go crawl into bed my little love,” JJ whispered, tired herself.

“mama,” you whined.

“go crawl into dada’s bed then baby,” she chuckled - reading your mind. you smiled and nodded. you wanted cuddles with your dada.

you pushed open his bedroom door and turned the camera round so your mama could see his drooling face. she giggled.

“get under the covers carefully love, don’t wake him up.”

“what bout cuddles ma?” you grumbled.

“cuddle him carefully, he’ll probably snuggle up to you in your sleep princess.” she was getting more tired now. with the darkness around you both, sleep was inevitable.

“mama!” you groaned loudly as you tried to get comfortable.

“hey hey, you’re okay,” she murmured. “shuffle around, deep breaths. mama’s here.”

just hearing her voice settled you and you soon got comfy.

“close them eyes little one,” your mama said. you did so and then felt your dada’s strong arms pull you close to him.

“i’ve got her jay,” dada said into the phone.

“thank you baby, you give each other extra big cuddles for me.” she was on the brink of sleep herself. you rolled over and curled into your dada.

“night mama i loves wo,” you muttered down the phone softly.

“goodnight angel, i love you so much.”

“goodnight my love, i love you.” Will said to her too.

“goodnight baby. i love you too.”

the three of you fell asleep together. although your mama was at the other side of the country, it still felt so comforting hearing her soft breaths at the other end of the phone. you could see strands of her blonde hair in the soft light too and you couldn’t wait to have it tangled around your fingers again. you snuggled closer to your dada in your sleep, clinging to him and he held you tighter.

you loved your little family more than anything.
