Putting this article on tumblr bc I’m still getting hits on it
I know with 100% certainty that jk Rowling read and hated this article, because a few days after I published it you could no longer find it on google search, even if u searched for my username & profile
You can find it on google now, right at the top of the search results
If you hate jkrowling and used to like the books, please share this
(Also reddit really hated this article too)

Its kind of wild (though I suppose makes some kind of sense) that a lot of the residual Harry Potter fandom post-JKRgate seems to be made up of people who are militaristic, gleefully violence endorsing, and in denial.
There was a fascinating thread on reddit's r/harrypotter today that really emphasised this.
Somebody had quoted the scene where Harry uses Crucio, the torture curse that causes the victim unbearable pain and can cause brain damage due to the severity... as something not that they thought was morally questionable or a talking point, but as a heroic winning moment that they were upset wasn't adapted into the movies, and they hoped the tv show would include!
Up and down the thread around 2000 people agreed!
Those few people that pointed out that Harry's use of torture being okayed because he believed it was for the good of society retroactively also legitimised its use by any of their enemies who believed the same were pilloried by the group. Ah, you see, but Harry is the hero. Its fine for him to use literal torture as long as its for the greater good. So what if he causes so much pain his victim passes out? It's the greater good, man!
It kind of struck me that by retaining - and encouraging - this side of fandom, its making HP quite a good recruiting ground for general zealotry and extremism. If X is fine when Harry does it for the greater good, then is it also fine when Rowling does it? Or when the political candidate that Rowling endorses does it?
These people are being carefully shielded from the fact that just because a story has a first person perspective and a character is called a hero by others around him, that does not mean that everything they unilaterally do is objectively right. If you fight fire with the fire in the pursuit of your defeat of fire as a concept, haven't you become... exactly what you seek to extinguish?

This might be a hot take but I get so tired of the internets mentality of IT'S EITHER OR.
Either you buy the game nd u therefore don't give a shit about trans pple or you never touch the HP fandom w a ten foot pole again and you're ✨clensed✨
I understand both sides of this conflict so deeply.
As a nonbinary person born in a country where you still have to get sterilised in order to change your legal gender, I can come close to the outrage the trans community is feeling at people so easily compromising their principles and support for them over something like this.
But I also remember the toughest parts of my life as a neurodivergent person being stuck in depression nd anxiety and my fandoms being ny o ly reason to live and keep going. We can't control our hyperfixations and sometimes they're all we have.
All that being said I believe THERE IS A FUCKING MIDDLE GROUND.
You can absolutely, privately or publicly, consume or create HP related content without monetarily supporting JKR. JUST PIRATE THE GAME. Wait a while if you have to, you don't have to abandon your interests but you can do the bare minimum to make sure your consumption doesn't do more harm than it absolutely has to. PIRATE THE BOOKS. PIRATE THE GAMES. THE MOVIES. DON'T BUY OFFICIAL MERCH. DIY YOUR OWN MERCH. Buy stuff from fan artists whose wiews you know and support. CREATE FAN CONTENT THAT IMPROVES ON JKRS STEREOTYPE FILLED INTERPRETATIONS OF THE CHARACTERS.
The content is *yours*. Rip it from that bitch's hands and RUN WITH IT but for the love of god DON'T CONTINUE GIVING HER MONEY AND PUBLICITY
IT'S THE LEAST YOU CAN DO for your fellow trans folk out here.

The "JK Rowling wrote death eaters to be us" thing is just so funny to me because she literally just compared them to one particular aspect of the death eater's story and instead of reflecting on why their actions might have led to the comparison, now they're blowing it up to act like she said every trans person is a soul sucking death eater (her allegory was about their actions later in the series not the soul sucking stuff) and some are pretending she wrote them years ago as some secret anti trans dog whistle back before any old AGP could call themselves trans and Rowling probably barely knew they exist if at all.
‘We have been made to live in secret, and now is our time, and any who stand in our way must be destroyed. If you disagree with us, you must die.’
I've yet to see the pro transition side actually discuss how this quote supposedly doesn't represent their actions, slogans, call signs, and political leanings considering trans activists talk endlessly of ending the lives of those who don't agree with them.

Howdy y’all I wanted to say something on the topic of hogwarts legacy for a sec here
Because I’ve now seen SEVERAL DID and OSDD systems say they’re going to play it anyway because it’s important for them and Harry Potter served as escapism from their trauma and similar things like that
And I’m not one to really pick sides on discourse all that much, plus I recognize that I didn’t like Harry Potter growing up and have no attachment to it BUT
YOU CANNOT IGNORE THE PROBLEMS WITH SOMETHING PURELY OUT OF “it means a lot to me”
Read the books sure if you already own them, pirate the movies and PDFs and whatever, make your trans wizard OCs and live your best life, but don’t further support JKR, she puts the money she gets from these things DIRECTLY back into anti-lgbt groups and has directly stated she views people supporting and purchasing HP things as supporting her and her opinions
Look, I get it, if someone like idk, for example Team Cherry, the creators of my FAVORITE game Hollow Knight, that helped me cope with so much shit, came out supporting anti-trans groups and saying the money from buying their game would go towards that I would be so fucking devastated, I would burn down my computer, I’d never buy another game from them again, but it would hurt me so damn bad
It’s hard, it really is, we deserve better as a community and we shouldn’t have to avoid things we love because people decide to be asshats
Shit’s hard y’all, but we still have to stick together as communities and stand against this racist, antisemitic, transphobic jerk who’s decided to actively do her best to hurt people just because she has outdated shallow views

So I've been seeing a lot of boycott the new hogwarts game (honestly I don't care enough to look it up atm, but if youve spent even 5min on tumblr you know what I'm talk about.) and I wanted to talk about it.
Now these opinions are probably going to be a little shocking, but please bare with me and give this some thought before you just respond.
Jk has already stated how she funds anti-trans orgs with the money she has earned from HP. And that is not okay, I hate that she does that.
But
I think the thing that really grinds my gears is that ppl on this website are sitting here and acting like Terf-queen rowling and chickfila are the only two conservative piggy banks that bank roll this kind of shit.
They're not
In fact according to this article, the top 5 companies to donate money to politicians to vote for anti-lgbt laws between 2015-2021 were
AT&T
GM
Anheuser-Busch
The Coca-Cola Company
NBCUniversal
Now, do you have to boycott these companies? You can if you want to. Thats your decision.
I could go on and on about the never ending spiral of, but what about what X company supports. What does company Y do?
The reality is this is a never ending cycle. An endless rabbit hole if you will.
Boycotting can be an effective form of activism. But boycotting a billionaire who's still earning royalties, won't get you very far.
If you guys are this passionate about this stuff then get involved with your local lgbt community. It also would hurt to get involved with your local goverment. Go to city council meetings, be apart of the community, help advocate for lgbt rights.

The simple truth of things is that if the United voice of a community cannot sway you away from buying a single game you do not care about that community and you do not get to pretend you do
