Serena from Pokémon X&Y! (Journeys Outfit)

Another colored pencil drawing and this time it’s Serena! This is her Pokémon Journeys outfit from JN105. I actually have another one of her though I like the ears here a bit better.

I think the neck, ears, and body to head proportions are definitely wonky here. Notice how I drew the hands behind her back. I don’t feel like drawing hands right now lol.

What about my favorite friendships? The anime puts more attention to friendships than romance (like it should) so there are a lot of them:

-The Alola gang, they were so tight! I loved them.

-The Paldea gang (in the games)

-Iris and Cilan

-Goh and Iris

-May with Misty and Dawn

-Dawn with every companion

-Brock with Misty and Ash, Also Brock with every companion

-Ash and Ritchie

And a lot more...

And those are the missed friendship opportunities:

-Misty and Iris

-Chloe and Iris (Do you know that Iris'VA wished for them to meet but got ignored?)

-Chloe and Lillie (they have a lot in common, so why not? Why is Chloe supposed to interact only with eevee owners?)

-Goh and Penny and Chloe

-Nemona and Ash

-Goh and Arven

-The Galar rivals with the Journeys trio

-Gary and Horace (they were in the same missions, but never really interacted)

-Goh and Chloe (don't hate me, I like their friendship, but I feel like fans wrote better than the show writers, it's a really wasted potential.)

-Ash and Chloe (they didn't interact much, and the writers made him disinterested in her progress in jn105 for no reason)

It seems people nowadays are rather mixed over the XY series and one of the main reasons why that is, it's because of one character, Serena who recently came back in the series with JN105 but she seemed to feel like a completely different character than she was in XYZ and had received a drastic redesign that was more faithful to her game counterpart, but it seems that OLM didn't give her enough character development and her character isn't really finished yet even with her comeback after six years. I think she could've gone to the Alola region since it has a lot of Pokémon that fit her to a T and it's based on Hawaii, a row of eight islands that feature traditional dances and festivals, and since Serena is a performer, I think if they held Showcases in Alola, then her character would've fully wrapped up when she would come back in Journeys, and I think it would've been amazing to see her to catch three more Pokémon like Popplio (which is easily the Pokémon from Alola that suits her the most since it's a circus seal and does circus tricks and it's evolution Brionne is a Pop Idol and does lots of dances and they're habit of blowing bubbles screams Serena), Cutiefly (a rival to Shanua's Flabebe and a great fit for her) and Oricorio (A Pokémon who's main gimmick is dancing and it's four different forms and the Pom-Pom style would fit her the most).

I think she could've perfectly transitioned into Contests if she actually continued doing Showcases and focused on trying to become a better performer and trainer overall and since she would need more experience in Contests since they're more like Doggie marathons, and Showcases are like Live Shows, I think Serena would've been good at Contests if they didn't redo her entire character and rushed her goal of being one of the greatest performers of all time, and since all they did with her was be a mentor for Chloe and use her for Chloe's Eevee and it's arc of Chloe finding her goal which isn't finished in the slightest. Serena would've been a far more mature and independent trainer if she travelled in Alola with her 6 Pokémon (Braixen, Pancham, Sylveon, Brionne, Ribombee and Pom-Pom Style Oricorio) and won the final tournament of the Alolan Showcases and became the Alola Queen, then her transition into Contests would be better executed and her goal would be finally complete when she forms a girl group with Lisia and becomes a famous superstar and pop idol in the entire Pokémon world, then I would be happy overall

Listen, I love the Pokémon anime but since SM and JN disappointed me so much that I expected better from this series and feel like that the anime will never recover from those trainwrecks ever again.

JN105 rambling

I watched the ep where Serena comes back yesterday and can I just say that...

IT WAS AMAZING??

I know everyone has already said this but the way they handled her return was done so well, they didn’t completely focus her character on her crush on Ash, in fact she didn’t even interact with Ash until the end of the episode.

I loved how they showed her growth, her outfit had changed completely and she was so much more confident in herself. It made me really happy for her. I also liked the fact that she wasn’t wearing the blue ribbon Ash gave her. I know it might sound weird, but I think her not wearing the blue ribbon was symbolic of her being able to move on, being able to not JUST rely on Ash to keep her going, but be able to rely on herself as well. She became independent, something she seemed to struggle with before.

I also liked the parallel between her and Aria when she was helping Chloe. She clearly saw herself in Chloe and became what Aria was to her when she was feeling down. It really reflected her growth as a person and just. Ugh.

And yes, the 28 seconds that Ash and Serena got to interact were VERY well done imo. There was no blushing, no embarrassment, no mention of the kiss. I liked it because they didn’t need all of that- just seeing each other again, seeing the way they look at each other as the boat leaves, seeing the way Serena stands there for a moment at the dock as the boat crosses the horizon...you can feel that there’s still a connection even after all of those years. Whether that connection is platonic or romantic, it doesn’t really matter because you can tell they still care for one another and that’s more than enough- for me anyway, lol.
