Macaroni came home today from the vet, again.

I was too exhausted to keep writing bad news, so I didn’t write when she stopped eating only one day after she was released last Saturday. On Monday her appetite was gone again and her poop was very bad, so I took her in for a check up. The vet said to try her on a liquid complimentary feed, but that if she didn’t improve in a day, she would have to come back and stay at the vet.

I asked if she couldn’t just stay. The pattern was clear, she improved with the intravenous treatment, whereas she responded badly to the oral treatment and, what are savings for anyway?

Bless affordable vet care. It has not been cheap by any means. I have blown past my monthly budget, and I’m not kidding about this eating into my savings, but this is nowhere near the level of surprise expense my US friend experienced when her cat was diagnosed with kidney failure. I think the cost of her three visits and biometrics have equaled the cost of all of Macaroni’s meds and overnight stays, her ultrasounds, her biometrics and even her blood chemistry analysis.

But all of that was forgotten when she came home tonight and she. would. not. eat.

OK, maybe not entirely true, but she wouldn't eat the one thing I could offer her by doctors' orders. She came home and she tried to eat the dogs’ dinner, she tried to eat a pepperoni, she even tried to lick jocoque off a plate… but her prescription food? Her complimentary feed? Nope. She wanted none of it, to the vet’s utter confusion (she had eaten both of those things perfectly fine morning and noon) and my swelling frustration.

But, finally, I put her food on a plastic container lid, and she slowly relented. She ate alright tonight, and I am just begging whatever powers be, that she can keep this up so she can stop showing her hips and ribs so prominently against her pelt.
