I AM A CHANGED WOMAN. OH MY G-D. I can't think coherently. But here are my thoughts on Sweeney Todd (3/30/24 matinee)
Act I
- I almost jumped out of my skin when they said “swing your razor high, Sweeney,” in Ballad of Sweeney Todd, like if that was possible I would have done it lol; the ensemble was so scary, there was a bright white light change, and the music got super loud, it was awesome
- Seeing Joe Locke in that opening number, something about him made me realize “oh he's gonna be great,” like his really intense pained vibes, his Toby really wears his heart on his sleeve
- WHEN AARON JUMPED OUT WITH THE SPOTLIGHT ON HIM!!!!!!!!!!!! I think my soul left my body (& it's still in the theater)
- Aaron’s weird cockney accent that he clearly has so much pride in, like King you could've just done a normal voice but no, he chose to do his own strange thing and it was giving Prince James One Royal Holiday (his Hallmark movie, iykyk) tbh
- When Mrs. Lovett threw flour across the stage at Sweeney to get his attention in Worst Pies
- The shadow/silhouette projections going through the story in Poor Thing, they were so tantalizing they actually managed to distract me from Aaron lol
- AARON’S MY FRIENDS WAS LIKE HEARING AN ANGEL SING FR
- It really didn't seem like he snapped when he said “my right arm is complete,” it seemed like he was a depressed man who finally found passion and drive again, not someone who was going crazy
- Maria was IMMACULATE as Johanna, the most gorgeous voice and acting…her halting, jerky movements really showed how damaged Johanna is, yet she still had this grace about her underneath, true beauty that couldn't be stamped out of her, even with all she endures
- Joe Locke was so light on his feet in Miracle Elixir (also he seemed to be having a great time, which goes for everyone during the whole show honestly)
- The lights changed color with each line of the song, like there was orange, white, then blue
- Aaron leaned over when he was standing by his little razor table and Sutton’s Mrs. Lovett ate that shit up, she crouched down to check out his butt for a solid twenty seconds
- When the Judge came into the shop Aaron had this huge grin on his face, he was so excited to kill him and he just spent too long relishing the moment
- Epiphany was a full-body experience I swear
- When Mrs. Lovett stared at his package in A Little Priest
- And then Aaron laughed when he pointed down at her cupped hands and said “what's that,” you could tell it was a genuine laugh from Aaron and not a Sweeney thing
- Aaron’s buttery voice when he sang “the history of the world, my pet”
- And he did a little growl too (don't look at me. DON'T)
Act II
- his voice was SO well-suited for Johanna Act II
- SUTTON FOSTER’S FEET IN BY THE SEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was hoping SO HARD that she would do that, and she did and it did not disappoint; Miss Foster how does it feel to be living out my dreams, thank you queen for letting me see that and live vicariously through you <33333333333
- she struck a pose like she was taking photos for Playboy when she said “me in stripes”
- “Not While I’m Around” was emotional af, Joe Locke did not have to go that hard but he fucking did
- For some reason I was the only one who clapped when Johanna shot Fogg? Is that not an applause-worthy moment??
- He was so giddy when he finally killed the Judge
- Aaron actually scared me when he was gonna kill Johanna, and esp when he chased down the stairs after her like a hulking monster
- the scariest thing was that even as things unraveled, he didn't seem to be “losing it”; he seemed to be getting even more intent on his revenge, stronger, more deft and precise, more confident, more powerful in his evilness
- he was scary af when they were looking for Toby too, so menacing
- his growl when he said “you lied to me”
- how he crawled towards Mrs. Lovett like an animal and scrabbled at the floor to grab her
- How loud the fire roared when he put Mrs. Lovett inside
- his body language (hunched shoulders, limp limbs/posture) seemed maybe almost remorseful once he threw her in the fire? Like as if he was thinking I'm glad I did that, I had to, but I'm exhausted and can't exactly process that she’s actually gone because of me
- The way Johanna held Anthony close when she saw the bodies
- Aaron’s acting when Toby killed Sweeney—he didn't fight him off, he just looked so sad and tired, like he wanted to be dead (what a wonderful interpretation of the lyric “she was his reason and his life”)
- UGH when Sweeney and Lovett hold hands and step into the pit, finally weightless, they’ve got each other, Sutton and Aaron are right, it IS a love story, oh my g-d my heart
I don't know if I'll ever be able to stop thinking about this. It was SO GOOD!!!!! Anyway thanks for reading my rambles if you got this far hahaha, hope you have a lovely day

Lansing — Democratic lawmakers are condemning a social media post from Republican state Rep. Josh Schriver of Oxford that promoted "the great replacement" theory, a racist ideological belief that there's a coordinated global effort to diminish the influence of White people.
On Tuesday, Schriver shared a post of a graphic that depicted black figurines covering most of a map of the world, with white figures occupying smaller sections of Australia, Canada, northern Europe and the northern United States. The bottom of the graphic read "The great replacement!"
The graphic, initially posted by right-wing pundit Jack Posobiec, was reposted by Schriver with an emoji of a chart showing a downward trend on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
Tumblr media
In a statement Wednesday to The Detroit News, Schriver said he loved "all of God's offspring" and believed "everyone's immense value is rooted in the price Christ paid on the Cross when he died for our sins.
"I'm opposed to racists, race baiters, and victim politics," Schriver said in the statement. "What I find strange is the agenda to demoralize and reduce the white portion of our population. That's not inclusive and Christ is inclusive! I'm glad Tucker Carlson and Jack Posobiec are sharing links so I can continue my research on these issues."
The "great replacement" conspiracy theory asserts there is a coordinated effort to dilute the influence of White people through immigration and through low birth rates among White individuals, according to the Anti-Defamation League. The theory has been linked to anti-Semitism, with some versions alleging it is Jews coordinating the so-called replacement.
The shooter in a 2022 Buffalo, New York supermarket shooting that killed 10, most of whom were Black, raised the theory in a manifesto as a motive for the killings, the Associated Press reported. The killer in the 2018 Tree of Life Synagogue shooting in Pittsburg blamed Jews for bringing non-white immigrants to the U.S.; a 2019 Poway, California synagogue shooter claimed Jews were responsible for the killing of White Europeans; and a shooter who killed 23 people at an El Paso Walmart in 2019 talked about a "Hispanic invasion" in his manifesto, according to the Anti-Defamation League.
At least a half-dozen Republican U.S. Senate candidates promoted the "great replacement" conspiracy theory in the 2022 elections, the AP reported.
House Speaker Joe Tate, a Detroit Democrat and Michigan's first Black speaker, said Schriver's "blatantly racist social media post" and later statement on the issue do not align with the chamber's values and are "deeply and personally" offensive.
Schriver's insistence that the issue was worthy of consideration "puts his ignorance on full display," Tate said in a statement, but is not an excuse for "proliferating obvious hate."
“Perhaps most disturbing is that his post uplifts a dangerous and tortured narrative that fosters violence and instability," Tate said. "His callous and reckless act is not within the spirit of what Michigan is, and it contributes to a hostile environment."
Rep. Jason Hoskins, a Black Democratic lawmaker from Southfield, also criticized the post Wednesday night.
"Michigan House Republican celebrates Black History Month by promoting racist and dangerous conspiracies that there are too many people of color," Hoskins wrote on X.
House Republican Leader Matt Hall, R-Richland Township, did not respond to a request Wednesday night for comment about Schriver's post.
Rep. Kelly Breen, D-Novi, condemned the post as "blatantly racist" and "dangerous rhetoric" that has no place in society or in the state Legislature.
"It saddens & infuriates me that a colleague shared this," Breen wrote on X. "For someone who claims to love God - Rep. Schriver is blind to the fact this would make Him weep."
Elected in 2022, Schriver represents the 66th District in the Michigan House of Representatives, which includes Addison, Brandon, Oxford townships and most of Oakland Township in Oakland County and Bruce and Washington townships in Macomb County. The Warren native is a graduate of De La Salle Collegiate High School.
Schriver serves on the House Natural Resources, Environment, Tourism, and Outdoor Recreation Committee.
Condemnation of Schriver's post extended beyond Michigan political circles.
The Northern Guard Supporters, a fan group supporting the Detroit City Football Club, also condemned the post and said the first term lawmaker was not welcome among the fan group. Schriver's wife plays for the Detroit City Football Club women's team, which plays in the Premier Arena Soccer League.
Nick Finn, who helps run communications for the group, said fans "won't tolerate that in our stands." On X, Northern Guard Supporters noted that the league included "players from all ethnic backgrounds in a high minority population city."
"It’s very upsetting to see something like that, one, from any representative in Michigan, let alone one directly connected to a member our team,” Finn told The News on Wednesday.

Rep. Jim McGovern, a leading anti-hunger lawmaker in the House, expressed anger Tuesday that the debt ceiling legislation negotiated by Republicans and the Biden administration targets food benefits for older adults while doing nothing to raise taxes on the wealthy or rein in military spending.
During a House Rules Committee hearing on the bill, McGovern (D-Mass.)—the panel's top Democrat—slammed his Republican colleagues for claiming to care about the deficit but refusing to look to the Department of Defense, a paragon of wasteful spending and fraud, for savings. The White House and Republicans ultimately agreed to increase military spending for the coming fiscal year.
Meanwhile, Republicans rejected White House proposals to close tax loopholes exploited by the rich.
Instead, McGovern said Tuesday, the GOP insists Congress has to "cut funding that helps the most vulnerable in this country."
"Give me a goddamn break," he added.
McGovern voiced particular alarm over the bill's expansion of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) work requirements to include adults between the ages of 50 and 54, a Republican demand. Analysts and campaigners say the change, which would sunset in 2030, could put hundreds of thousands of older adults at risk of losing food aid.
White House officials and President Joe Biden himself have defended the new requirements by pointing to the legislation's proposed expansion of SNAP benefits for veterans, kids leaving foster care, and people experiencing housing insecurity.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Biden brushed aside progressives' warnings that the bill could cause some people to go hungry, calling such concerns "ridiculous."
McGovern pushed back during Tuesday's hearing, saying that "improving benefits for some does not justify putting 700,000 older adults at risk of losing critical, lifesaving food benefits."
youtube
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) published an assessment late Tuesday that concludes the debt ceiling bill, titled the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023, would lead to roughly 78,000 people gaining SNAP benefits "in an average month, on net (an increase of about 0.2% in the total number of people receiving SNAP benefits)."
But observers cautioned that the CBO's estimate hinges on ensuring that vulnerable people, particularly those who are homeless, are aware they are exempt from SNAP work requirements and able to navigate the program's bureaucracy.
"This is HIGHLY theoretical," The American Prospect's David Dayen wrote of the CBO analysis. "There's no funding to identify eligible people without benefits or to help them apply or find the necessary documentation. I obviously haven't seen the model but it seems like wishful thinking to me."
"How are we exactly a) informing homeless individuals that 1 of the 2 work requirements for SNAP [has] been lifted, b) helping them collect and submit the documents that prove they meet the income test, and so on?" Dayen asked.
After a nearly six-hour hearing, the Republican-controlled House Rules Committee voted Tuesday to send the debt ceiling legislation to the full House for a vote, which could come as soon as Wednesday evening.
McGovern and every other Democrat on the panel voted no.
Ahead of Tuesday's committee vote, McGovern called the latest standoff over the debt ceiling an "all-time high in recklessness and stupidity" and said Republicans "manufactured" a "crisis that risks the full faith and credit of the United States."
"Republicans are unfit to govern," said McGovern, one of the lawmakers who—to no avail—urged Biden to use his 14th Amendment authority to unilaterally avert a debt ceiling catastrophe.
"This bill could have been a lot more awful than it is," McGovern added. "I didn't come to Congress to hurt people. And when I listen to my Republican friends, what is clear to me is that we don't share the same values."

I've seen quite a few people posit headcanon names for the Wii boxers so I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring for shits and giggles!
Explanations for the meaning and some history behind their names and stage names included too!
Glass Joe: Joseph Fournier-Proulx.
Joseph means "He will add" in Hebrew. Fournier, while literally meaning 'oven' in French, is equivalent to the surname 'baker' in English. Proulx comes from the Old French 'preau', meaning 'valiant' or 'brave'.
Joe has two surnames because of the fact that his father vanished shortly before he was born. Because of their father's absence, their mother put a lot of him and his sister's documents under her maiden name (Fournier) mostly to keep their father's family from getting involved with them.
Joseph had a middle name when he was younger, but when he changed his name during his transition, he dropped it. He never liked having a middle name at all and thought it make his name too cumbersome.
He mainly uses Fournier on non-significant documents, but prefers to sign Fournier-Proulx on everything else.
Von Kaiser: Wilhelm Raskopf
Wilhelm comes from William, which itself comes from Willehelm, literally meaning 'will helmet', but could be interpreted as 'desire to protect' or 'desiring protection'. Raskopf means 'quick headed' and derives from a nickname.
Wilhelm's younger brother is named Wilfried (Desiring peace), both names chosen by their deceased mother.
He goes by 'Helm' while his brother goes by 'Fried' or 'Freddy' to close friends.
He doesn't have a middle name, but always like the idea of making it Alida (Nobility), after his mother.
Disco Kid: D’Andre (Enrique?) Tawfeek
D'Andre is a black American name meaning The Andrew, Andrew itself meaning 'manly' or 'masculine'. Enrique is the Spanish variant of Henry, meaning 'home ruler'. Tawfeek is an alternate transcription of the name Tawfiq meaning 'good fortune' in Arabic.
D'Andre prefers people call him by his full first name, but allows close friends to call him 'Andy' or 'D-anne', in the case of his beloved uncle.
Because his uncle was kicked out of the family, his parents died when he was an infant, and his name was changed by a foster family when he was a child, neither he nor his uncle are sure if he has a middle name. However, he is very set on 'Enrique' being his middle name and nothing has shaken him on that.
Despite the name change, he refused to go by his new name as a kid. He remembered his first name and changed it back once he was adopted by his uncle.
King Hippo: Ariinui Teheiura
Ariinui is a Tahitian name that means 'noble and big'. Teheiura is a Tahitian name meaning 'the red crown'.
Ariinui's island, called hippo island in English, is very close to Tahiti and shares a very similar language. The two islands share a lot of name overlap as well!
He has no idea why people make jokes about his last name, but doesn't like it nontheless.
Prefers their name the be shortened as 'nui', if it's shortened at all.
Piston Hondo: Akahiko Kawaguchi
Akahiko is a very rare Japanese name meaning 'red boy' or 'red prince'. Kawaguchi means 'mouth of the river'.
Technically, he's the 4th Akahiko in his lineage, but doesn't put a number behind his name because the last Akahiko was 2 generations back.
At one point, during a punk phase, he considered renaming himself 'nuclear waste' in Japanese. His sister knocked some sense back into him but he uses that name for most of his private online profiles.
When he was younger, the rarity of his name was very embarrassing and he wished he was named Yoshirō (Righteous son), after his father. Nowadays, he feels much better about his name and thinks it's cool.
Bear Hugger: Orson Fisher
Orson is derived from the French 'bear'. Fisher comes from the German Fischer, meaning 'fisherman', and is a Jewish name as well.
Orson doesn't like comparisons to Orson Welles and finds it pretty annoying. He won't be mean about it but he will be very passive aggressive if you do it more than once.
His stage name is partially inspired by his first name. He was afraid it was dumb at first, but it grew on him a lot.
He has a Hebrew name as well- Dov ha-Rav
Great Tiger: Samir Raj-Singh
Samir is a Sanskrit name meaning 'wind' or 'air'. Raj is Sanskrit for 'king', while Singh is Sanskrit for 'lion' and is given to all male Sikh followers as a surname.
He's perfectly fine with being called 'Sam', but tends to find people assume his name is Samuel because of it. This annoys him, but not as much as people assuming he must be Hindu because his last name is Raj.
He uses two surnames because his grandfather couldn't decide on whether to change his surname in accordance with Sikh practices or to keep his surname. It has caused Samir a bit of paperwork trouble, but overall, he likes how double surnames feel.
Don started calling him Mimir (Spanish babytalk for sleep) as a joke, which eventually turned into a silly nickname used by the entire major circuit.
Don Flamenco: Donato Gallardo
Donato means 'given' in Latin. Gallardo means 'gallant' or 'elegant' in Spanish
Don almost never goes by Donato, feeling it's too formal for his relaxed lifestyle and personality.
The name 'Flamenco' came from a joke by a family friend, who called Don and his father 'senior Flamenco' because of their dancer-like elegance as matadors.
His middle name was going to be Ariel (Lion of God), but his parents decided against it when The Little Mermaid came out, leaving him the only one of their children without a middle name.
Aran Ryan: Aran {Redacted} Ryan
Aran- the Irish name- comes from the anglicized name of the Aran Islands, whose name is of unknown meaning, though it may come from the Old Irish word ará, meaning 'kidney'. Ryan is anglicized from Rian, meaning 'little king'.
The name he uses for himself is the same as his ring name, however, it is not his legal name! His legal name is a deadname which he vehemently protects from anyone who didn't know him before transition. He hasn't been able to legally change it for a variety of reasons but has however, decided to keep his middle name, even if he never dares put it on legal paperwork.
He will violently manifest in your house if you joke that his name is the Irish word for bread (arán). Aran is very emotionally attached to his name and such jokes press on a very tender nerve regarding his native language and his identity.
Initially, he was going to spell it as Árann, the Irish name for the Aran islands, but a combination of people constantly mispronouncing it and misspelling it made him change it. People still mispronounce Aran as Erin, though, and he's given up correcting them.
Soda Popinski: Ivan Valentin Polyanski
Ivan is a new form of an old Slavic variant of John, meaning 'god is gracious'. Valentin comes from Valentine, meaning 'strong', 'vigorous', and 'healthy'. Polyanski means 'from fields'.
Though a lot of people make fun of his middle name, he was never effected by it and finds it quite charming.
The name 'Popinski' came from a boxing announcer misreading Polyanski- Ivan found the mistake absolutely hilarious and chose to base himself on a soda theme because of it.
Ivan frequently has to correct people on the pronunciation of his name- it's pronounced almost exactly like even in Russian.
Bald Bull: Halim Uysal
Halim means 'patient', 'tolerant', and 'mild' in Arabic and Turkish. Uysal means 'docile', 'easygoing', and 'mild' in Turkish.
Halim is very protective of his name around press for the sake of his privacy, especially when in New York. He will even go so far as to sign things as 'Bald Bull' to not dox himself.
Him and his parents get a kick out of the irony of his name. As a child, he was far more calm and timid around press but adulthood stripped what patience he had away and replaced it with anger.
Uysal often auto corrects to Ulysses (Latin form of Odysseus, meaning 'to hate'), which led to it becoming a sort of code name by the world circuit to protect him. Mask-X is a similar code name which turned into a stage identity of it's own.
Super Macho Man: Tyler David Harris-Levine
Tyler comes from the word 'Tiler' as in someone who does tiling work. David is a Hebrew name meaning 'beloved' as well as 'uncle'. Harris means 'son of Harry', which itself means 'home ruler'. Levine is a Jewish name, from the name Levi, meaning 'joined'.
Though David is technically his middle name, Tyler prefers to use it as a second first name. When writing it out, you'll be lucky if he has any consistency with what firstname + surname combo he uses.
He accepts any shortening of Tyler, with some of his cousins even calling him just 'ler', but hates when David is shortened to 'Dave'. He'll only correct you once before he starts getting serious about it.
His Hebrew name wasn't given to him at birth because his mother wasn't sure if she would raise him with Judaism and his dad wanted him to have a choice about anything regarding religion. Either way, his Hebrew name is David he-Levi.
Mr. Sandman: Michael Alexander Ali
Michael is a Hebrew name meaning 'Who is like god?' as a rhetorical question. Alexander comes from Alexandros, meaning 'defending men'. Ali is an Arabic surname meaning 'lofty' or 'sublime'.
The name 'Sandman' comes from his family and friend's shortening his middle name to 'sandy'. He's used to all kinds of weird nicknames so if you call him it long enough, he'll respond to just about anything (Including Jackass, which the rest of the world circuit calls him affectionately)
Though Mike shares his name with his deceased great uncle, and his mother swears she named him after said beloved uncle, she and his father actually got inspiration from Mike Tyson.
His Hebrew name is Mikha'el ben Adi.
Little Mac: Mackenzie Louis
Mackenzie is anglicized from the Scottish name Mac Coinnich, which means 'son of Coinneach', which itself means 'handsome' or 'fair'. Louis is the Latinized form of Ludwig, meaning 'famous in battle'.
Though people constantly bug him about having a girl's name and have told him to change it to be more 'manly', Mac can't bear the thought of parting with the only thing he has left of his parents.
He is Mac ONLY. If you call him 'kenzie. You. will. die.
His original surname is a mystery, so he was named 'Doe' in his foster records for a while. After Doc adopted him, he took on his last name.
Doc Louis: Jerome Zachary Louis
Jerome is Greek, meaning 'sacred name'. Zachary comes from Greek, meaning 'Yahweh remembers". Louis is the Latinized form of Ludwig, meaning 'famous in battle'.
Some people pronounce his name as 'Jeremy' which he does not understand.
He considered giving Mac his middle name after adopting him, but decided against it.
He got the nickname 'Doc' because he worked as a medic for the wvba before entering the ring as a professional.

Raza Jaffrey as Dr. Neal Hudson, an ER attending physician. A British-Indian former surgeon, his approach is quieter and more people-oriented, than his mentor Dr. Rorish. He connected with Christa during her first year of residency. In "Hail Mary", Hudson becomes a surgical attending, and is once again assigned to the ER (season 1).[7][8]
Bonnie Somerville as Dr. Christa Lorenson, a mature first-year resident. She was married with a son who died of brain cancer. Her experience and her divorce inspired her to attend medical school (season 1).[7]
Melanie Chandra as Dr. Malaya Pineda, a first-year resident (seasons 1–2). She went to medical school and did her internship at Angels Memorial, and is more familiar with the ER. She is a lesbian, who was once involved with a resident when she was a medical student.

With the bracket over, I have something to say! c:
Joe inspires me as an artist! His work has changed the trajectory of my craft. I've tried out so many new ideas and techniques, been less afraid to make my art both sillier and more genuine. I share some of this art, and maybe someone else is inspired, or even just changed! In turn I see so much wonderful art, writing, discussion, and memes coming from this community! I am constantly inspired by not just Joe, but all of you out there!
Something I say to myself a lot is "Artists inspiring artists inspiring artists." I've felt this a lot in this past week!
So I just wanted to say a quick thank you to @joehills! You've shared some of my art during the bracket, and I am very humbled that it constitutes as good sexyman propaganda! I know what's here isn't unique to this community, great art is everywhere after all! But it feels fostered here in a way that is truly special. The Joe Hills community, and by extension the Hermitcraft community, is truly great!
I also want to thank @mcytblrsexymen for an incredible bracket! It's been so much fun! I generally consider myself a bit of a lurker outside of my art, but this past week I've been the most actively engaged and excited in the community I have in a long time!
And if you've been enjoying this bracket in any part big or small, thank you too! To those whose blorbo lost, you put up a good fight and I'm glad we're all having fun! It was worthy opponents all the way down! To the rest of us though...
JOE HILLS SEXYMAN SWEEP!!! :D
I'm going to try and find the lime-greenest drink I can later today. Cheers!

Written by Joe Gannon Directed by Armand Mastroianni
We open on a sexy woman singing a song. It is the superstar Angelica, and it turns out we are seeing her on a television set, in a room covered with posters and photos of her. A man is applying makeup to his face in the mirror, then he walks through the room, caressing her image on the walls. He seems obsessed and sad, mouthing "I love you" to a poster, then he begins to sob.
Cut to the outside shot of the Vinyl Museum Record Depot, where the man, Howard, works. He is busy filling a display for Angelica's music, and his boss tells him a PR rep for Angelica's label will be stopping in. She also gets Howard's hopes up by hinting maybe the rep can even get Angelica to stop by herself.
Some teen girls are shopping, and an overzealous Howard tries to help, wanting to show of his knowledge of Angelica. They mock him and leave.
That night, Howard is walking home and looks at his reflection in a window. As he does, two men jump out of a car and smash a store window, grabbing items and fleeing as the alarm sounds. Howard walks over and finds a chain with a crystal bauble. He picks it up just as a bystander grabs him, thinking he is the burglar. Howard tells the man to drop dead, and the bauble kind of puts the man in a trance. He walks off, we can hear his heart pounding and he collapses. Howard goes to check on him, but the man is dead. The cops arrive.
Later, Howard is finally at home and examines the bauble in front of the mirror. He asks it to fix his skin, and his face instantly looks smoother. He then asks it to fix his face, but nothing happens.
At Curious Goods, Ryan is excited to have to tickets to Angelica's concert. Ryan really likes her, but Micki pokes fun at him. Jack then finds the bauble in the Manifest, and shows the cousins the police report of items stolen, and it includes Mesmer's Bauble. Jack tells them Mesmer was a hypnotist, and they wonder what Louis' curse did to the item. Micki and Ryan leave to investigate.
At a club called The Copa, fans eagerly await as Angelica arrives. Howard among them. She waves and signs a few autographs then is ushered inside.
Howard arrives at the record store and his boss introduces him to Anita Devon, from Angelica's label. Howard is excited to meet someone who actually knows his crush. His boss comments on his face looking clearer.
Howard shows Anita their storeroom and she gives him an autographed photo of Angelica. He also spies her backstage pass. Howard continues to ask questions, and it quickly gets too personal. Anita thinks he is a wacko fan, and is uncomfortable. She wants to go, but Howard pushes, and she says Angelica wouldn't be attracted to someone like him. He pulls out the bauble and puts her in a trance. He tells her to go for a walk. She obeys, walking out of the store, only saying goodbye to Mrs. Burns at Howard's insistence. Howard walks out with Anita and tells her to walk into the traffic. She is hit by a semi. His boss runs out and tells him to call an ambulance.
That night, Howard rushes home and again holds the bauble, asking it to make him beautiful and someone Angelica would notice. He writhes on the floor in pain.
At The Copa, Howard arrives with Anita's backstage pass. He looks more attractive, and even his hair is flowing. He heads backstage, where Angelica and her crew are rehearsing. Howard follows the monitors and soon he is within feet of the singer, watching her. Roger, Angelica's manager, is ushering her out when they encounter Howard, who says he is there replacing Anita. Roger says he better do better than her, to Angelica's chagrin. Howard and Angelica shake hands. Roger takes her away, saying they can talk business later. A stagehand says there is an issue with too many fans and asks if Angelica will come out and sign some autographs. Roger tries to blow him off, but Angelica goes to them. Howard wanders backstage.
Later, Roger is ranting about lost time as he and Angelica finally get to her dressing room. He says she is too good to her fans. As she goes to change, Howard watches from the clothing rack. Angelica says Roger is too possessive, and Howard realizes they are a couple.
Micki and Ryan arrive at the store that was burglarized. They talk to the owner, and tell him the cops caught the thieves and got most of his items back. They ask about the bauble. He thinks the crooks fenced it, but Micki says there wasn't time. He mentions the kid who talked to the police, and Micki asks if he means Howard Moore. The man calls him and ugly kid, and talks about the jogger that died. Micki and Ryan head off.
At another rehearsal, Howard watches Angelica perform. He then approaches as Angelica and Roger go to leave, but Roger rudely tells him he should be working and not hanging around, and then takes off as Howard seethes.
Micki and Ryan are at the record store and talk to Mrs. Burns. She said Howard called and quit this morning, and tells them kids were always giving Howard a bad time over his looks. Then she tells them about Anita getting hit. Micki says to Ryan that everywhere Howard is, someone dies.
Howard lies in bed, listening to Angelica's music, and says out loud that he knows she wants him. A knock on the door and Micki and Ryan are there. They ask about the robbery and if he noticed the bauble. He says no, but Micki spies all the Angelica photographs before he shuts the door. She comments to Ryan that he is not at all ugly. They wonder if the cursed antique is already at work. Micki thinks he wants Angelica, so they leave to find where she is staying.
In his apartment, Howard holds the bauble.
At the hotel, Roger stops shaving to answer the door. It is Howard, who holds the bauble up and entrances the man. Howard tells him to finish shaving, really close, with no water. He keeps telling him to go closer and closer, and not to forget his throat. Blood hits the sink and Roger collapses. Howard looks in the mirror and tells the bauble he wants to be Angelica's lover.
In the hotel lobby, Micki and Ryan see a body wheeled out. A woman says it was Angelica's manager. Then, Angelica and Howard get off the elevator, together. Howard has instantly replaced Roger, telling the assembled group to give her privacy.
Jack is reading about Roger's death, with a quote from Howard saying Roger was depressed. Micki says Howard spent the night planning Roger's funeral. They are sure he has the bauble. Jack tells them about his research, that the bauble fulfills fantasies. Ryan wonders if Howard will hurt Angelica. They head to the club.
Angelica is crying in her dressing room when Howard arrives with a rose. He tells her he took care of Roger's funeral, and she cries on his chest. She wants to cancel her show, but Howard insists she must go on, for all her fans. She is unsure. A man knocks on the door, and Angelica says she will go on. Howard tells her he wants to show her something.
We cut to him taking Angelica to his apartment with all the photos of her on the walls. She asks if he wants her and begins to undress.
Micki and Ryan burst into the club, wanting to find Angelica. A man stops them, and Ryan asks where she is. The man says she left with her new manager.
Howard and Angelica are naked, and he is caressing her body. He keeps looking from her to her photos, then he is touching his own chest, then the bauble. Angelica asks what's wrong, and kisses him. She pulls him to the floor on top of her, but Howard says he can't do this, it isn't what he wants. He says he wants to be her. She struggles, as he holds her down. The power of the bauble works on his wish, melding their bodies. Later, Howard who is now Angelica looks in the mirror and laughs.
That night, the stagehand tells Howard/Angelica it is almost showtime. She admires herself in the mirror.
Ryan and Micki arrive at Howard's apartment and bang on the door. Ryan forces the door open. Micki sees weird slimy ooze on the floor, and they rush off to the club.
As the show is about to begin, the fans fill the club. Howard/Angelica prepares to go on stage. Micki and Ryan head in with the other fans, looking for Howard. Angelica/Howard is introduced and comes on stage, singing and dancing.
Micki notices the bauble around "Angelica's" neck and as the singer makes her way around the stage, Micki reaches up and grabs the bauble, pulling it off without their knowing. Suddenly, Howard/Angelica's voice goes deep, his body and face change. He is transforming into Howard again in front of a freaked out crowd. He hears the mocking voices in his head, backs up in a panic and falls into a floor panel of lights, sending sparks into the air. Micki, Ryan and the club all watch in horror.
At home, Ryan is listening to Angelica on the radio, and Jack and Micki tell him to try and make sense out of it. Micki says the bauble is in the vault, but they blew it this time, lamenting being unable to also save Angelica. Jack says there was no way to know what was going to happen, or what was going on in Howard's mind. Ryan looks at the ticket stubs and thinks of Angelica.
My thoughts:
Wow. What an episode. I remember the first time I saw this one, I was really confused as to what happened. Makes way more sense now, but quite the twist here.
One thing that is nuts is how much is made of how 'ugly' Howard is. Are all the people around him so superficial and mean to that extent? Sadly, I can see it being true. Might be a bit played up for the drama, but people can be real jerks. Still happens to this day. So maybe I shouldn't be surprised.
The antique is quite a powerful one, basically acting like a genie's lamp in granting wishes, as long as you give it deaths, and don't let it go. Howard obviously wanted very specific things, but he could have had literally anything from it, it seems.
Our group is getting real good at investigating things, but you have to wonder if the cops have questions about these people always wanting information on things. A recurring cop or someone on the inside would have helped with this.
Glad to have the three of them back together after three episodes with them apart.
The final transformation on stage in front of the crowd and the at home viewers had to have been big news. No way to keep that a secret. I assume Micki and Ryan just took off, but all those people watched Angelica transform into Howard, who then fell and died. And Angelica was gone, too. Had to be huge news! But they make no mention of how it was explained to the world, at the end.
Do appreciate their melancholy, though. They did their best, but Angelica still died. Not easy to live with, I'm sure.
