okay i saw a comment that in the song a new horizon theo takes the lower part and vincent takes the higher one because theo is at his lowest and vincent is at his highest point in the musical and then on the threshold of eternity they switch cause their emotions are switched and i’m 😭😭😭😭

^star is consumed w thoughts abt joe viba theo van gogh
[ID: Three drawings of Theo from the musical Starry. In the first he is looking upwards in awe as the sky above him is swirling and filled with stars. The second shows him smiling with tears in his eyes, and the third shows him looking down in consideration at a piece of art, raising an eyebrow. /End ID]

listening to starry is an Experience because something after all is a song about about baring your soul and desperately hoping that someone will accept you after that confession. the song doesn’t indicate whether the response is positive or negative, it olny conveys the desperation felt after being vulnerable and anxiously waiting for the reaction
the next song is about a passionate zest for life

this is my obligatory gushing about Starry because holy shit that musical is SOMETHING ELSE. the music? beautiful. the vocals? incredible. the lyrics? like poetry. stan matt dahan & kelly lynne d’angelo. like, it took me a while to pin it, but part of the reason why I love Starry SO MUCH is because the ending is so fucking satisfying. We are hearing Vincent’s “theme” from the very first notes being played in “Prologue” and all throughout the soundtrack, we hear these notes from the get go and we spend the entire musical hearing them, and they’re not attached to anything; just notes, and then suddenly at the end of “The Red Vineyard”, we essentially hear the start of “Prologue” again, and then it goes into “The Starry Night” and it all. comes. together. suddenly, we know exactly what we’ve been listening to right from the start, and we hear the music accompanied by the lyrics (WHICH ARE FKN BEAUTIFUL) and it all just clicks in together; we’re hearing Vincent.
then, we get “Wheat Fields/Finale Ultimo” and in case “The Starry Night” wasn’t satisfying enough, this song just wraps it all up brilliantly. we hear from pretty much everyone, and then we get to Theo and Jo, and Vincent’s little reprise of “The Starry Night” is just *chefs kiss*. And we go into Jo’s monologue, and this is The Moment™️ for me. The voices start overlapping, and Mariah vocalises until we get to what seems to be the climax of the song: “What happens when we’re something after all? / The answer’s in the sky!” (idk what the proper lyrics are but this is what I gather) and UGH. Mariah’s vocals following the amazing ensemble is just frikkin incredible, and in my absolutely unqualified opinion, it’s the most satisfying musical/vocal moment in musical theatre.
listen to Starry. take an hour and just soak in the absolute excellence that it is, and then buy the CD so this show can go on Broadway and take over the world.

okay but-
the starry musical really said “if paris is the world, montmarte is bethlehem and art is our amen”
and “a brain like a blizzard in june; fascinating, but maybe just a little too soon”
and “god, let my brushstrokes become interwoven. keep me alive, clarified and unbroken. let me descend into steady emotion, give me the strength against all my erosion”
and most of y’all haven’t listened to it yet? unbelievable. it’s 2020; gender is out, and starry is in

I went to a museum about van Gogh's life
And I listened to Starry's soundtrack all along
It was the best day of my life, honestly.

STARRY Lyrics that make me go:
Tumblr media
in no particular order, bold parts are my thoughts:
- The intro/prologue, despite not having words makes me GO FERAL
- we paint our destiny with ecstasy to change all human kind
- SHUT UP!       or loSE OUR MIIIINDSSS
- the entirety of The Road but like:
- can he turn down the heat? DeBAtaBLe.
- WITH A BRAIN LIKE A BLIZZARD IN JUNE, FASCINATING BUT MAYBE JUST A BIT TOO SOON
- we’ll rIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIse
- show something that we haven't seen and make us feel alive
- ever yoooourrsss, vincent, theo, PAUL.
- galleries are gravity,, just the way the way the line is sung is just MWAH
- they say  theo, theo  the van gogh before you gogh
- They wish that I could help but still the answer's no I can't take a chance against the status quo not everyone gets hung up with the chosen few, has high school musical vibes and i love it
- at le tambourin cafe who knows what tomorrow bring but until then we want the same thing
- THE RED VINEYARD shut up i’m not crying there’s just dirt in my eye
- hold on, vincent, you’ve carried me more than you’ll ever know
- i can see it that new horizon it’s waiting in the sky ( with their whole chest ) a nEW HORIZOOOOOOOOOOOOON
- the notes at the end of The Red Vineyard, SHUT UP IM NOT CRYING YOU ARE
- to make history for curiosity c’est la vie to be freeeeeeeeee to be FREEEEEE
- GOD LET MY BRUSHSTROKES BECOME INTERWOVEN KEEP ME ALIVE CLARIFIED AND UNBROKEN LET ME ASCEND INTO STEADY EMOTION GIVE ME STRENGTH AGAINST ALL MY EROSION
- LET ME ASCEND INTO STEADY EMOTION, wheew ain’t that relatable
- the part where there’s a crowd talking about how great Van Gogh’s artwork in the Wheatfields/Finale Ultimo just makes me SO EMOTIONAL AND FERAL,,, he deserved BETTER
- those searching for simplicity will never write a page of history
- the music in The Sower, specifically the part before “he’s taking every...”
- the sight of the starry night makes me free
- the instrumental break in The Wheatfields/Finale Ultimo
- you reap in broad daylight
- the instrumental break in The Wheatfields/Finale Ultimo
- you are living art, your sunshine’s on my heart
- the wheatfields were our kingdom when you were by my side
- THE ANSWER’S IN THE SKY ( the sight of the starry night ) IT’S ALWAYS A STARRY NIGHT
- brother we were made to soar, fly with me forevermore
- brilliance lights the path ahead, every lesson every hymn every single word I’ve said keeps the road burning bright through the shadows of the night
- i can see it now, surrounded by loved ones you painting your godson
- could there be a life full of riches and not in the classic sort of way
- where are we going is a great song but because it’s paul gaugain singing it just makes me angry, I hate paul gaugain so much,,, it’s irrational but i want to fist fight him --- SO LOVE ME FOR MY ANARCHY AND HATE ME FOR MY SINS BUT WHILE YOU LOSE YOUR SANITY I’LL BE THE ONE WHO WINS I WON’T BECOME A WASTE OF SPACE HERE AT THE TAMBOURIN
- since when did people grow afraid of dreaming
- it hurts to even think of On The Threshold of Eternity
- could we colour past the lines and draft our own designs for a future that’s ours
- and we’re happy, brother, we’re happy and that’s enough
- ARE THESE THE COLOURS OF MY LEGACY WHEN WHAT’S HANGING ON THE WALL IS THE ONLY THING LEFT OF ME
- okay my friends i really hate to mother but you’re at my cafe and you need each other
- together we’ll see both sunlight and storms, they’re equally sacred to us
- we say that it’s a brotherhood but we’re all full of shit. yeah, you are paul.
- now it appears after clouded mornings of obscurity it brought me here to prepare a palette for infinity
- do the answers wait for us afar until death takes us up to a star
- AND WHEN IT FINALLY RAINS, IT’S GONNA POUR
- cause that’s the curse of the gifted
- there’s only one moment my mind feels pure working’s my sole hope for any cure
-  open your eyes because no one sees in darkness
- this fracture inside we can no longer hide
- THE INSTRUMENTAL BREAK IN THE WHEATFIELDS/FINALE ULTIMO
i love this musical so much, it is four am and i’m still crying over it as i listen to it on repeat

My ranking of the songs from the musical Starry (+ the demos from the deluxe album)
This was extremely hard to do since they are all great and I love all of them. Also, remember that this is my personal opinion! Feel free to express yours
18. Prologue
This gives me so much feels despite not even having any lyrics.
17. Something After All
It's short, sweet and Joe Viba has a wonderful voice. I don't really have anything else to say.
16. The Yellow House
The middle of this song is comedy gold. But every time I listen to it I just get anxious because I know what happens next.
15. The Sower
I love all the harmonies and the ending is just breathtaking.
14. Paris at Night (Demo)
Theo and Jo's relationship is so sweet and they deserved better (so did everybody except for Gauguin and Degas).
13. Take on The World Together (Demo)
Matt Dahan is so talented and I love his harmonies with himself in the end.
12. A New Horizon
The relationship between the van Gogh brothers is killing me. Also, Dylan and Joe's harmonies are beautiful.
11. Enlightenment
This song ENLIGHTENED me about the powerhouse that is Mariah Rose Faith.
10. Sunlight and Storms
THEO AND JO'S RELATIONSHIP IS SO SWEET AND THEY DESERVED BETTER.
Also the "I confess I'm a mess more often than not..." gets stuck in my head so much.
9. Something After All (Demo)
This song is so good ! Everything from Matt Dahan's voice to the instrumentals is honestly amazing.
8. Where Are We Going
I hate historical Gauguin with a burning  passion. However this song is amazing and Jeff Blim is great in this role.
7. Wheat Fields / Finale Ultimo
The ending when everyone is talking about van Gogh's works and admires them is kind of overwhelming, but in a good way. Also, Mariah absolutely slays me with her vocals(as always).
6. Impress Me
This musical certainly did IMPRESS ME. But seriously this song is a great opening number and I like how the title is a reference to impressionism.
5. The Red Vineyard
I don't usually cry while listening to musicals. But I did cry the first few times I listened to Starry and this song was the offender.
4. On the Threshold of Eternity
I can't even express through words how beautiful this song is. It's heartbreaking and all the singers do such an amazing job.
3. The Starry Night
Dylan is one of my favourite actors and his voice is beautiful. Also, this song just makes me emotional
2. The Road
Wow, just wow. I don't even know how to express my love for this song through words.
And number one is ....
1. United in Distaste
This song is genuinely one of my favourite songs ever. It's probably the best character introduction I've heard in a musical, the actors and lyrics are great, I love all the art history references and the ending is magnificent.
I also recommend you read this post by noobsomeexagerjunk about it(+Where are we going). It's very well made and a great explanation of some of it's details
