Bendy Theory
ok so I've watched game play of the new release and I have a sort of theory about the coming game Bendy and The Silent City. I suggest that Riley is the Player character in Batsc.
She lost her parents in a car wreck and drew the Bendy Nightmare Run Monster Taxi, which would fit in a city landscape and fit the gritty tone of what little we have to go one with the game. Said Taxi would make a great thematic pursuing enemy
She worked in Joey Drew Studios long enough to create said monster Taxi, but was fired for the "disturbing content" of her art. A gritty noir horror cartoon city would make a fitting place to end up, especially if she created tons of what was there like said taxi; It would become even more purgatory like than the other ink world.
She went to Gent after being fired, and is implied to have been experimented on, put inside the Ink Machine (or a backup/experimental version gent made because we don't know timelines) into the Secrets of the Machine game to study (and to show-off what's coming to us). Secrets of the Machine I bet was the original tests they put her through, then she was put in deeper and either ended up lost or was purposely pushed until she ends up in the Silent City.
We also know more about the Gent-Joey Drew Studios relationship, where employees and artists might be getting flagged as candidates for Gent Experiments (the Ink world reacting to emotions and personal history so much, running Riley through it could offer insights on controlling it/or even the Ink Demon... through process of elimination. Ie, sacrificing Riley while watching to figure out what not to do and limits. After all, Riley is hardly in the mental headspace to work under the awful conditions of Joey Drew Studios, let alone explore a demon haunted esoteric other world)

Here’s some things to know about me & my interests!
- I’m a 20-year-old cishet girl, I have been in a LOT of fandoms or more accurately, I’ve been obsessed with a lot of things and I never stop loving those things even when I fall out of my phases again and again, I eventually have a relapse in my obsessions sometimes. I joined tumblr bc I’ve heard that it is a very accepting place for fandoms and I’ve been on my Instagram fanpage/s for years where I have dealt with a bunch of unwelcome hate in addition to my real life middle school experience that still haunts me to this day, and I’m looking to finally have a safe social space where I won’t get any of that and I can be my true self and fangirl as hard as I possibly can. I’ve also watched Strange Æons’ yt videos about tumblr and I’m very interested in everything that happened in the world and on the internet when I was little and not allowed to have a phone (I’m a 2004 baby).
- My favorite YouTubers are Cody Ko, Athena P, Not Even Emily, ColeyDoesThings, Nickisnotgreen, Daz Games, HTHAZE, Smosh & their other channels, Strange Æons, TheOdd1sOut, Aaron and Jo, Jaiden Animations, Alex’s Corner, Chad Chad, Danny Gonzalez, Drew Gooden, Kurtis Conner, Duncanyounot, Rebal D, YAP TV, and lots more. I used to watch Amy Lee33 when I was 10 or 11 and now her videos are just nostalgic for me, and I used to love the Minecraft YouTuber, Aphmau until a little bit after she started posting content targeted at kids. I really miss her role play videos :(
- My favorite shows (including my childhood shows) are TMNT 2012, Lego Ninjago, MLP, VeggieTales, Manifest, Lucifer, Once Upon A Time, The 100, Merlin, The Summer I Turned Pretty, Boy Meets World, The Amazing World of Gumball, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir, Anne With An E, I guess I’m kinda invested in Riverdale, I haven’t seen every Friends episode but I’ve seen enough to ship Joey & Rachel, Martha Speaks, Dinosaur Train, Word Girl, Wild Kratts, Wonder Pets, Super Why, Jem and the Holograms, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Odd Squad, Horseland, and Olivia.
- My favorite music artists are Marcus & Martinus, Tiny Meat Gang, Taylor Swift, One Direction, Harry Styles, Ricky Montgomery, and more. To be clear, some of the artists I listen to are artists that I don’t know much about, I just like their music and I don’t have the energy to get to know who they are but I know a bunch about most of the artists that I listen to. I also love a lot of songs from artists that make royalty free music for Epidemic Pop like Loving Caliber, Lvly, and Tape Machines which is all thanks to Aphmau for using their songs in her YouTube videos.
-My favorite movies are Peter Pan (the 2003 live action movie) + many other Peter Pan movies, Mirror Mirror, Rise of the Guardians, Mune: Guardian of the Moon, the 1968 Romeo and Juliet movie, every old Barbie movie, Turning Red (that movie got me obsessed with 4⭐️Town and made me develop a crush on Robaire), and the Tinkerbell movies.
- My favorite ships are Jelsa (Jack Frost from ROTG and Elsa from Frozen) a very nostalgic ship for me that I got obsessed with when I was 10-12 and I’ve never stopped shipping it even though I’m not as obsessed as I used to be, the love square from Miraculous Ladybug, Laurmau from Aphmau’s Minecraft role play series, especially MCD, I used to ship Garmau in addition to shipping Laurmau but I think Garroth’s silliness in Mystreet kinda turned me off from the idea of him and Aphmau together so I just shipped Laurmau. I only ship Aarmau in the Mystreet series bc that’s the only series where it feels right for them to be canon (except for their age gap when they first met😬). Jess wrote Aarmau as the canon ship in almost every series she has created (besides the series that don’t have the characters Aphmau and Aaron in them) and I got really tired of it and wanted something new so I became a BIG Laurmau shipper. Travlyn and Zane~Chan from Aphmau’s series, I’ve shipped Peter Pan with Wendy in the original Disney movie and almost every adaptation of Peter Pan while also having a crush on him, Shirbert (Gilbert and Anne Shirley from Anne With An E), and Jerranne (Jerry & Anne from Anne With An E).
- I’m not really much of an anime person but I’m really enjoying Toradora at the moment
- My favorite WEBTOONS are (including ones that have been finished for a while) Eaternal Nocturnal, Siren’s Lament, Operation: True Love, Suitor Armor, Maybe Meant To Be, Forever After, Act Like You Love Me!, Adventures of God, Archie Comics: Big Ethel Energy, Succubus x Delinquent, Rewriting Our Love Story, The Kiss Bet, Green & Gold, Date First, Love Later, Go Away Romeo, Unlovable Replacement, Annie Green Hates Girls, Goth Boy & The Jock, Meme Girls, True Beauty, Jackson’s Diary, Internet Explorer, Lore Olympus, Honey Lemon, The Four of Them, Goth Girl & The Jock, Cursed Princess Club, Castle Swimmer, Romance 101, Swimming Lessons for a Mermaid, Mom, I’m Sorry, Sarah, I’m Sorry: Welcome To Our Galaxy, Spells From Hell, A Summer Night’s Dream, Everything is Fine, Stalker x Stalker, Mines & Monster Girls, Drawn To You, Phoenix Drop High, Opposite of Always, Love and Leashes, Before We Knew It, There’s Love Hidden In Lies, Jungle Juice, Let’s Play, Reunion, Age Matters, The Princess’s Jewels, Love Me Knot, The Wendybird, The Wrath & the Dawn, Unholy Blood, LUFF, My ID is Gangnam Beauty, #Killstagram, Crumbs, A Good Day to be a Dog, and Days of Hana

For the Ship thing- Senry( Sammy x Henry) n if ur ok with doin 2 in the same ask- Joey x Grant x Henry
[For this ask meme.]
Sammy/Henry
Yesssssss good content!!!! Good ship!!!
This is actually part of what got me into the fandom, even - I ended up reading La Vie en Noir  (10/10 highly recommend just be sure to check content warning tags) after I saw it linked in a post, and it got me just, really invested in the characters and plot. And it’s a cute ship!
Somehow, I usually don’t end up shipping it in my own AUs? But it’s really nice for shipping, especially within the game loops - I vaguely touched on this in my Sammy + Ink Demon post here, but I just... really enjoy content where Prophet Sammy slowly regains himself as he realises how little worshipping the Ink Demon is doing for him, and having Henry there to help him return to himself, to remember who he was...
I’m sOFT... Sammy Lawrence can have little a healing as a treat... Little a recovery... Little a cuddle...
Verdict: 36/10, for the number of chapters La Vie en Noir has.
Joey/Grant/Henry
This one’s much more out there! Not seen this one before, I don’t think!
This ship I feel like could go in so many different directions, just based on the people involved. A lot of Joey and Grant content goes darker, as does some Joey and Henry stuff, but then Henry and Grant together feels like a much softer combination.
Good for pre-cycle AUs where things don’t go quite as dire, perhaps! With two boys trying to keep him in check, maybe Joey’s gay:tm: will be enough to counteract his impulsive choices and reckless spending. And then Henry and Grant could be some nice chill for each other, for when Joey’s being a Bit Much.
Or it could go even worse, perhaps. If Henry left, and Grant was on his own... Hm! Plenty of ways that could play out. Or it could be an AU where Joey’s ink nonsense was for a less malicious reason - I’m often a fan of “sacrifices to ink to try and save from dying” shenanigans.
In general, seems like a ship that could be pretty interesting! Definitely feels like it’d need to have some intriguing plot built in to set that up, but I love a good weird ship premise.
Verdict: 👀/5, if I saw a well written fic I sure as heck would click to see what was going on there!

This is long overdue at this point, but because I can’t stop imagining my version of Joey Drew sounding like Hawkmoth from The Miraculous Ladybug, I had to draw Hawkmoth! Joey sooner or later :P

Master List of A/Us and Stories That I'm Currently Working On.
Marked by the Soul (Miraculous Ladybug Soulmark and Young Justice crossover AU based on Cornerverse's Soulmark Headcanon)
Miraculous Tales of Ladybug, Chat Noir, and Cainis (Disabled but Abled AU with Marinette being Autistic, Adrien being Diabetic, and Max being Blind)
They're Twins!?!? (Bio Twins; Marinette and Max AU or Dupain-Cheng Twins AU)
Marinette's New Look (Punkenette LIVES!!! And be careful what you wish for Lila, because now Marinette ain't gunna take any of your shit anymore!)
Miraculous Adventure in Joey Drew Studio (Miraculous Ladybug and Bendy & the Ink Machine crossover. Warning; Horror/Survival)
Miraculous Juuni (Miraculous Ladybug x Juuni Taisen Crossover... I blame the Chinese Zodiac connections on this one, but I like the characters from the Juuni Taisen too much to let this one go)
Paris Dragon Marinette Dupain-Cheng (Miraculous Ladybug in the Universe of American Dragon Jake Long. It’s basically Marinette being the Dragon defending all of Paris’ Magical Creatures while trying to survive human school w/o blowing her identity)
Phantom Relations (Danny Phantom “What If” story where Clockwork raises Danny, Nocturn raises Jazz [who is also a Halfa in this], and Walker raises Sam)
Shokugeki no Sōma: Nashi Saito de Chīfu (A Shokugeki no Sōma story where Sōma is blind, also mild crossovers)
Usagi and the Ink Machine (A blended universe with Juuni Taisen and Bendy and the Ink Machine)
Juuni Taisen Chat Group (Title says it all)
Kurīchā Sekai (Creature World). (A Bleach/He-Man/Marvel/DC Comics crossover where hybrids exist)
Juuni Taisen: CSI (Sumino Tsugiyoshi is the newest member of the Juuni Taisen Crimes Labs Team, Codename; Nezumi. He may be young but he's brilliant. Now he has to use both his brains and his ability to help solve crimes, mysteries, and survive the other Juuni Taisen members.)
Juuni Taisen's A to Z Mysteries (It's basically a modernized version of the A to Z Mysteries with the Juuni Taisen Characters. When Alphabetical Mysteries start happening to Tsugiyoshi "Nezumi" and his friends Misaki, Takeyasu, and Nagayuki in their town of Green Lawn, they must solve these Mysteries with their wits and skills before the worse can happen.)
Cybertron A/U Mystery. (Transformers A/U. After the Great War, Cybertron fell into a state of peace especially after forming a treaty with a Planet called Earth. But as we all know, peace is a fragile thing and the unexpected can happen. On Cybertron, a new team will take on these unexpected events, these mysteries.)
Transformers: Disabled but United. (Transformers A/U where there aren't any Autobots and Decepticon sides and the majority of the characters have some kind of disability. I've already made some headcons regarding this but I am going to have to do some more research on disabilities and the range of them before I truly start writing it out)
Amefuto isn't just for Boys (Amefuto's a tough sport, not really something girls would play, right? WRONG! What if some of the amefuto players in Eyeshield 21 were girls instead of boys. Let's find out and let the chaos start. Important notes: rating may change due to Hiruma's mouth, and THIS IS NOT A FEM!SENA FANFICTION. ps, I should really get back to this...)
Juuni Taisen: Bloody Maze. (Just some OCs battling it out in the next 12-year war)
My Miraculous Hero Academia (ML x My Hero Academia [or Boku no Hero Academia to you hardcore fans] I'm still kinda sort of working on this, mostly me trying to figure out who the big baddie in this is going to be since Gab is a decent parent and Emilie isn't in a coma in this A/U)
Along For the Ride (An odd request brings the Young Justice team to a strange village in the middle of one of their biggest events, and the next thing they know Sportsmaster crashes the whole thing. (Young Justice x Juuni Taisen crossover)
Beware the Blue Rose that the Marionette Holds (Uhh, Just a Miraculous Ladybug story with a few Crossovers that are kinda A/Us of existing media... If that makes sense...)
Chaotic Culture (Just me basically rewriting Chaotic [the cartoon based on the card game] with the reboot and fixes ideas that I had posted on Tumblr a while ago)
Miraculously Chaotic (just a Miraculous x Chaotic crossover that's been picking at my brain).
Lila Rossi's Lies are Exposed Fics that aren't Miracuclass Salt! (Tired of having Lila's lies are exposed fics that are oversaturated with Miraculous class salt? Well, here's a series of Class Salt-free fics I wrote to I can prove that it can be done and maybe balance out the Lila's lies are exposed tags a bit). Link to list of stories I plan to work on, (https://www.tumblr.com/blog/view/gale-dragon-writer/679985357785284608?source=share)
Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock (Encanto, but Maribel travelling back in time to the day where she didn't get her gift, but this time around, She gets a Gift and she plans on using it to save her family from the crushing pressures so they can be happier!)
Kid Martian (A Young Justice What If A/U where "What if M'gann took M'comm with her to Earth?". Kinda have season 1 outlined for this) Ninja Chat Group (Just two Ninjas in a Chat Group, and those Ninjas happen to be Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow).
Boku no Magic Hero (DC’s Jason Blood being the biological father of Izuku Midoriya and there’s Magic. Might need to rewrite this quick synopsis later) Adventuring in Another World (Nezumi finds himself transported to Another World. He finds adventures and unlikely allies along the way) Cursed Tapes (Just a few of the Warriors of the Zodiac going into an attic and finding some videos. What's the worst that can happen?) Abducted into Black (Just a Detective Conan What If fic that's based on the idea "What if... Gin found Conan in the locker")
Stuck within Playtime co (Don’t ask where this came from, because I have no idea! It’s the He-Man characters Stratos and Tri-Klops trying to survive the horrors inside the Playtime Co. Factory while trying to find their way back home).
Detective Conan and Assistant Arthur (Yet another Detective Conan A/U, but where Gin and Vodka get shrunk instead of Shinichi.) American Dragon: Jake Long. Realm of Magic (Just me getting back on the AD:JL train and riding it while adding some more world-building and making it a bit more mature. Expect a few crossover references in this) Quirks of the Cosmos (TBA) I'll add more if anything comes to mind. Asks are welcome on any of these! (I will, however, not give out any direct spoilers)

Uh oh!
It's Kat's Halloween Adventure Game list!
Tumblr media
This is a list of 7 spooky and scary point n' click adventure games to play during the Halloween season!
I’m going to avoid Nancy Drew games since this is primarily a Nancy blog with Nancy followers.
All games on this list are a little spooky but I will rate games with 💀s based on scariness. I will also include content warnings for some games where I think they are needed (as far as my memory of the games in question go).
💀= Scary! game may contain violence, murder, blood, or supernatural scariness
💀💀= EEK! Game may contain more intense violence, gore, or intense supernatural elements!
Tumblr media
Grim Fandango (1998) / Remastered (2015) $14.99
Tumblr media
“ Something's rotten in the land of the dead, and you're being played for a sucker. Meet Manny Calavera, travel agent at the Department of Death. He sells luxury packages to souls on their four-year journey to eternal rest. But there's trouble in paradise. Help Manny untangle himself from a conspiracy that threatens his very salvation. ”
A personal favorite! Extremely loveable characters, film noir atmosphere, and cartoon mischief. A fun time without any heavy scares or themes.
Tumblr media
Day of the Tentacle (1993) / Remastered (2016) $14.99
Tumblr media
“Originally released by LucasArts in 1993 as a sequel to Ron Gilbert’s ground breaking Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle is a mind-bending, time travel, cartoon puzzle adventure game in which three unlikely friends work together to prevent an evil mutated purple tentacle from taking over the world!”
A classic game with spooky themes without heavy scares. Pure cartoon mischief! Also check out it’s predecessor Maniac Mansion.
Tumblr media
The Blackwell Series / Bundle of 4 games for $14.99
Tumblr media
“Meet Rosangela Blackwell, an embittered writer who just found out that she is a medium and that it’s her mission, whether she likes it or not, to assist tormented spirits and investigate other supernatural goings-on. She is assisted by the sardonic Joey Mallone, a ghost from the 1930s.”
The Blackwell Series is a frequent recommendation by members of the Clue Crew myself included and its for good reason! These games are great (and spooky)! In general I trust any game from Wadjet Eye to be a good adventure game experience.
⚠ Warning for some references to dementia, deteriorating mental health and mental hospitals.
⚠ There are some scary (and sad) bits in each of the games (especially if you make it to the Blackwell Epiphany 😢) but nothing I would judge as exceeding a  PG-13, or T for teen rating.
Tumblr media
💀 Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers (1993) $5.99
Tumblr media
“The adventure of Gabriel Knight starts with gathering materials for his new book, and ends up becoming a fight for his very soul. He must face countless dangers in New Orleans, Africa and Germany, each bringing him ever closer to unraveling the mystery behind suspicious voodoo murders. Haunted by nightmares, he won't give up until he reveals the truth.”
Gabriel Knight what can I say about you? Nothing scratches the adventure game itch more than Gabriel Knight. Scary, spooky, charming, intriguing it’s great mystery game. It has a killer voice cast too. Also, it’s a Sierra game so make sure you save often and frequently.
❗ This game’s portrayal of voodoo may be little problematic. Play at your own discretion.
💀 💀 Phantasmagoria (1995) $9.99
Tumblr media
GOG.com doesn’t have a good description of the game so here’s mine:
Novelist Adrian moves to a remote New England mansion with her husband Don. The mansion was previously owned by 19th century magician and purveyor of phantasmagoria, horror theater, Zoltan "Carno" Carnovasch. As Adrian discovers Corvo’s secrets and the fates of his wives she begins to suspect all is not well in her new home.
Did you think youd get out of one of my game lists without a FMV game? This game lived in my 12 year old mind rent free (yes, my obsession with point and click games prevented my from relating to my peers). Yes, this game looks terrible. Yes, it is terrible. But I absolutely adore it. It’s scary, it’s spooky, it’s cheesy, it’s stupid difficult. It’s like playing b-horror. It’s an experience.
A blanket statement for the content warnings: The game is all around very goofy. The 3D settings looks ridiculous and the acting isn’t great. In my opinion this softens the blow of much of the scary and upsetting content. But play at you own risk use your discretion. Maybe, watch a Let’s Play if that’s your thing.
⚠ This game contains a scene of sexual assault. It was very controversial at the time of the game’s release. But it’s not very explicit.
⚠ The game depicts several instances of spousal abuse both verbal and physical.
⚠ There are several creative scenes where women are murdered.
💀 💀 The Charnel House Trilogy (2015) $5.99
Tumblr media
“A train's whistle sounds in the dead of night. Snow falls on deserted tracks. Somewhere, in the city, a woman prepares to leave on a journey that will change her life. Somewhere, in the country, a man drives to his final destination.”
This one has big Blackwell vibes (and a Blackwell reference keep your eyes and ears open for that one). It’s a quick play so I don’t want to give away too much. Effective scares and pretty disturbing content delicious if your a horror fan.
⚠ This game references stalking and harassment
💀 💀 💀 Harvester (1996) $5.99
Tumblr media
“Welcome to Harvest. It's a quiet little town with eccentric locals and traditional family values. Life moves at a slower pace in quiet Harvest without the hustle and bustle like you'd get in the big city. Don't forget to attend the annual PTA Bake Sale and keep in mind that the blood drive is mandatory.”
Oh Harvester you’re a horrible point of contention amongst adventure game fans. Like Phantasmagoria I’d describe Harvester as b-horror. It’s a completely ridiculous game made with the goal of being controversial and offensive on purpose. But by trying to be purposefully offensive it, in my opinion, completely fails to be offensive at all. It’s just really dumb. But, still pretty entertaining. It’s a 1950s town where the paper boys carry pistols and the meat packing plant is infested with cats. There’s a wasp woman? And an evil cult? It may be a flaccid attempt at a satire but it’s can be pretty bizarre and fun time if your a fan of bad horror.
⚠ Content warnings won’t be very helpful for this one because there’s just too much going on I’d never catch it all. But here are some major points:
⚠ There is implied sexual harassment and abuse. I don’t think it’s ever shown on screen explicitly.
⚠ Part of the game implies child sexual abuse.

Joshua Jackson interview with Refinery29
Against my better judgement, and at the risk of losing any semblance of journalistic objectivity, I start my conversation with Joshua Jackson by effusively telling him what a dream come true it is to be talking to him. See, like many millennial women who grew up watching the late ‘90s and early 2000s teen drama Dawson’s Creek, Jackson’s Pacey Witter means a lot to me. Pacey is one of the rare fictional teen boys of my youth whose adolescent charisma, romantic appeal, and general boyfriend aptitude hold up all these years later (unlike The O.C’s Seth Cohen or Gossip Girl’s Chuck Bass) and that is due in large part to the wit, vulnerability, and care Jackson brought to the character.
It’s the same intention he’s afforded all of his famous roles — Peter Bishop in Fringe, Cole Lockhart in The Affair, and even as a 14-year-old in his first acting gig as sweet-faced heartthrob Charlie Conway in The Mighty Ducks. Now, Jackson, 43, has matured into a solid supporting actor (with memorable turns in Little Fires Everywhere and When They See Us) and as a leading man who can draw you into a story with just his voice (Jackson’s latest project is narrating the psychological thriller and Canadian Audible original, Oracle, one of the over 12,000 titles available today on Audible.ca’s the Plus Catalogue) or find humanity in the most sinister men (he’s currently playing a sociopath with a god complex in Dr. Death). His magnetic pull is as evident as it was when he was the guy you rooted for in a show named after another guy’s creek. Jackson has never seemed to mind the fact that so many people still bring up Pacey decades later, and that’s part of why as an adult, he’s one of the few childhood crushes I still have on a pedestal. I tell him just a tiny slice of this, and Jackson graciously sits up straighter and promises to bring his A-game to our Zoom exchange. Jackson is in what appears to be an office, flanked by mess, like a true work-from-home Dad. He and his wife, fellow actor Jodie Turner-Smith, welcomed a daughter in the early days of the pandemic in 2020, and he tells me that fatherhood and marriage are the best decisions he has ever made. Jackson and Turner-Smith are a rare Hollywood couple who choose to let us in on their love, but not obnoxiously — just through flirty Instagram comments and cheeky tweets. Their pairing is part of Jackson’s enduring appeal. It’s nice to think that Pacey Witter grew up to be a doting dad and adoring husband, even if his wife’s name is Jodie, not Joey.
Jackson is an animated conversationalist, leaning into the camera to emphasize his points — especially when the topic of diversity comes up. White celebs don’t get asked about racism in Hollywood the way their counterparts of colour do, and when they do, they’re usually hesitant at best, and unequipped at worst, to tackle these conversations. Jackson is neither. He’s open, willing, and eager to discuss systemic inequality in the industry he’s grown up in. It’s the bare minimum a straight white man in Hollywood can do, and Jackson seems to know this. When he ventures briefly into trying to explain to me, a Black woman, the perils of being Black, female, and online, he catches himself and jokes that of course, I don’t need him to tell me the racism that happens in the comment section of his wife’s Instagram. The self-deprecating delivery is one I’m familiar with from watching Jackson onscreen for most of my life, and seeing it in person (virtually) renders me almost unable to form sentences. Jackson’s charm is disarming, but his relaxed Canadian energy is so relatable, I manage to maintain my professionalism long enough to get through our conversation. Refinery29: Your voice has been in my head for a few days because I've been listening to Canadian Audible Original, Oracle. What drew you to this project and especially the medium of audio storytelling?
Joshua Jackson: The book itself is such a page turner. I also love the idea of those old radio plays. It's like a hybrid between the beauty of reading a book on the page where your imagination does all of it. We craft a little bit of the world, but because this is a noir thriller married with this metaphysical world, there's a lot of dark and creepy places that your imagination gets to fill in for yourself.
I'm noticing a trend in some of the roles you've been taking on lately, with this and Dr. Death, these stories are very dark and creepy. But so many people still think of you as Pacey Witter, or as Charlie Conway, the prototypical good guys of our youth. Are you deliberately trying to kill Pacey and Charlie?
JJ: I'm not trying to kill anybody — except on screen [laughs]. It's funny, I didn't really think of these two things as companion pieces, but I won't deny that there may be something subconscious in this anxiety, stress-filled year that we've all just had. That may be what I was trying to work out was some of that stress, because that's the beauty of my job. Instead of therapy, I just get someone to pay me to say somebody else's words. So, yeah, that could be a thing [but] the thought process that went into them both was very different. Even though this is a dark story, [lead character, police psychic] Nate Russo is still the hero. [Dr. Death’s] Christopher Duntsch very much is not at all. I can't pretend to know my own mind well enough to be able to tell you exactly how [these two roles] happened, but it happened.
That might be something that you should work through with an actual therapist. JJ: Exactly. Yeah, maybe real therapy is on the docket for me [laughs].
So I was listening to Oracle and you're doing these various creepy voices — I’m sorry the word “creepy” keeps coming up.
JJ: Are you trying to tell me something? You know what? I wanted to skip straight to the creepy old man phase of my career. So, it sounds like I'm doing a good job.
You're doing amazing, sweetie [laughs]. So, I was thinking you must be really good at bedtime stories with your daughter doing all these voices. Or is she still too young for that?
JJ: No! She's all the way into books. Story time is my favourite part of the day because it gives me the opportunity to have that time with her just one-on-one. Her favorite book right now is a book called Bedtime Bonnet. Every night I bring out three books, and she gets to pick one. The other two shift a little bit, but Bedtime Bonnet is every single night.
I love that. Since you're married to a Black woman, you know a thing or two about bonnets. JJ: Yeah, well I'm getting my bonnet education. And I'm getting my silk sheet education. I'm behind the curve, but I'm figuring it out [laughs].
You said in an interview recently that you are now at the age where the best roles for men are. And I wonder if you can expand on that and whether you think of the fact that the same cannot be said for the majority of women actors in their 40s?
JJ: What's great about the age that I'm at now as a man is that, generally speaking, the characters — even if they're not the central character of this show — are well fleshed out. They're being written from a personal perspective, usually from a writer who has enough lived experience and wants to tell the story of a whole character. Whereas when you're younger — and obviously I was very lucky with some of the characters that I was able to play  – you're the son or the boyfriend, or you're a very two-dimensional character. It's gotten better, but still a lot like you're either the precocious child or you're the brooding one. I will say that while I would agree with you to a certain point for women, I think that this is probably the best era to be a not 25-year-old-woman in certainly the entirety of my career. And it is also the best time to be a Black woman inside of the industry. There's still more opportunity for a 40-year-old white man than there is for a 40-year-old white woman, but it is better now than it has ever been. The roles that women are able to inhabit and occupy and the opportunities that are out there have multiplied. If I started my career in playing two-dimensional roles to get the three-dimensional roles, most women started their career in three-dimensional roles and end up at “wife” or “mom.” And that's just not the case anymore. There's just a lot of broadly diverse stories being told that centre women. So you're right, but in the last five years, six years I would say, there has really been a pretty significant shift.
And I think that shift is happening because who's behind the camera is also changing. JJ: Right? Who holds the purse strings. That's big. Who gets to green light the show to begin with? You have to have a variety of different faces inside of that room. And then, who's behind the camera. What is the actual perspective that we're telling the story from? The male gaze thing is very real. Dr. Death had three female directors. The central character of Dr. Death is an outrageously toxic male figure. Who knows more about toxic male BS than women? Particularly women who are in a predominantly male work environment. So these directors had a very specific take and came at it with a clarity that potentially a man wouldn't see, because we have blind spots about ourselves. We're in a space where there's a recognition that we've told a very narrow band of what's available in stories. There's so many stories to be told and it's okay for us to broaden out from another white cop.
I hope that momentum continues. Okay, I have to tell you something: I’m a little obsessed with your wife, Jodie Turner-Smith. JJ: Me too. As you should be! I love how loudly and publicly you both love on each other. But I need you to set the scene for me. When you are leaving flirty Instagram comments, and she's tweeting thirsty things about you, are you in the same room? Do you know that the other one is tweeting? What's happening?
JJ: We're rarely in the same room [writing] the thirsty comments because that usually just gets said to each other. But, look, if either of us misses a comment, you better believe at night, there's a, "Hey, did you see what I wrote?" One, she's very easy to love out loud and two, she's phenomenal. And I have to say, the love and support that is coming my direction has been a revelation in my life. I've said this often, and it just is the truth: If you ever needed to test whether or not you had chosen the right partner in life, just have a baby at the beginning of a pandemic and then spend a year and a half together. And then you know. And then you absolutely know. I didn't get married until fairly late in the game. I didn't have a baby till very late in the game and they're the two best choices I've ever made in my life.
I'm just going to embarrass you now by reading one of Jodie's thirsty comments to you. She tweeted, “Objectifying my husband on the internet is my kink. I thought you guys knew this by now,” with a gif that said "No shame." JJ: [laughs] That sounds about right.
She's not the only one though. There's this whole thirst for Joshua Jackson corner of the internet. And it feels like there's been a bit of a heartthrob resurgence for you now at your big age. How do you feel about that?
JJ: I hadn't really put too much thought into it, but I am happy that my wife is thirsty for me. What about the rest of us? JJ: That's great for y'all, but it's most important that my wife is thirsty for me. Good answer. You're good at this husband thing. You recently revealed that Jodie proposed to you. Then it became this big story, and people were so surprised by it. How did you feel about the response? JJ: Thank you for giving me the opportunity to give context to this story. So I accidentally threw my wife under the bus because that story was told quickly and it didn't give the full context and holy Jesus, the internet is racist and misogynist. So yes, we were in Nicaragua on a beautiful moonlit night, it could not possibly have been more romantic. And yes, my wife did propose to me and yes, I did say yes, but what I didn't say in that interview was there was a caveat, which is that I'm still old school enough that I said, "This is a yes, but you have to give me the opportunity [to do it too]." She has a biological father and a stepdad, who's the man who raised her. [I said], ‘You have to give me the opportunity to ask both of those men for your hand in marriage.’ And then, ‘I would like the opportunity to re-propose those to you and do it the old fashioned way down on bended knee.’ So, that's actually how the story ended up.
So, there were two proposals. I do feel like that is important context. JJ: Yes, two proposals. And also for anybody who is freaked out by a woman claiming her own space, shut the fuck up. Good God, you cannot believe the things people were leaving my wife on Instagram. She did it. I said ‘yes.’ We're happy. That's it. That's all you need to know. That has been a real education for me as a white man, truly. The way people get in her comments and the ignorance and ugliness that comes her way is truly shocking. And it has been a necessary, but an unpleasant education in just the way people relate to Black bodies in general, but Black female bodies in specific. It is not okay. We have a long way to go. Jodie is such an inspiration because it seems like she handles it in stride. She handles it all with humour and with grace. JJ: She does. And look, I think it's like a golden cage, the concept of the strong Black woman. I would wish for my wife that she would not have to rise above with such amazing strength and grace, above the ugliness that people throw at her on a day to day. I am impressed with her that she does it, but I would wish that that would not be the armour that she has to put on every morning to just navigate being alive. That's a word. That's a word, Joshua Jackson.
The 13-year-old in me needs to ask this. We are in the era of reboots. If they touched Dawson's Creek — which is a masterpiece that should not be touched — but if they did, what would you want it to look like? JJ: I think it should look a lot like it looked the first time. To me, what was great about that story was it was set in a not cool place. It wasn't New York, it wasn't LA, it wasn't London. It wasn't like these were kids who were on the cutting edge of culture, but they were kids just dealing with each other and they were also very smart and capable of expressing themselves. It's something that I loved at that age performing it. And I think that is the reason it has lived on.  We have these very reductive ideas of what you're capable of at 16, 17, 18. And my experience of myself at that point was not as a two-dimensional jock or nerd or pretty girl. You are living potentially an even more full life at that point because everything's just so heightened. [Dawson’s Creek] never talked down to the people that it was portraying. That's one of the things that I loved about it as a book nerd growing up. The vocabulary of Dawson's Creek was always above my level and that was refreshing. To go back to the “diversity” conversation, you can't really make a show with six white leads anymore and that’s a good thing. But I also don't know how I feel about taking a thing, rebooting it, and just throwing Black characters in there.
JJ: I hear that. And there's certain contexts in which it doesn't work unless you're making it a thing about race, right? If you watch Bridgerton, obviously you're living inside of a fantasy world, and so you're bringing Black characters into this traditionally white space and what would historically be a white space. And now you are able to have a conversation about myth-making and inclusion and who gets to say what and who gets to act how. So that's interesting, but I don’t think you’re just throwing in a Black character if you changed Joey to a Black woman [or] Pacey to a Black man. What you're doing is you're enriching the character. Let's say one of those characters is white and one of those characters is Black. Now, there's a whole rich conversation to be had between these two kids, the political times that we live in, the cultural flow that is going through all of us right now. I think that makes a better story. All these conversations around comic books in particular like, "Well, that's a white character." It's like, Man, shut up. What are you talking about? It is a comic book character! Joey and Pacey don't have to be white. Dawson and Jen don't have to be white. And this is what we were talking about a little bit earlier. We get better the broader our perspective is, both as humans, but also in the entertainment industry. So if you went back to a story like [Dawson’s Creek], what was important in that show was class not race, which I think is true for a lot of small Northeastern towns. They are very white. But if you brought race into that as well, you don't diminish the amount of the stories that you can tell. You enrich the tapestry of that show. So I think that would be a great idea.
Make Pacey Witter a Black man in 2021 is what I just heard from you. JJ: Hashtag ‘Make Pacey Witter A Black Man’. There we go!

WIP Wednesday - Let’s Talk Music
Thank you to @cleverblackcat @kittynomsdeplume @noire-pandora and @morganlefaye79 for tagging me!
I don’t have any writing to really offer today.  I’ve been trying to work on that Haven fic but unfortunately Aloysius hasn’t been co-operating with me despite all my best efforts to make him speak.  I may take a break from writing and pivot towards completing some art memes, but Wednesday just sort of crept up on me and here we are.  So instead, I’m sharing something that both is but also isn’t a work in progress?
It’s “in progress” because while I’m happy with where it currently is, I’ve said that about playlists and soundtracks before and later changed them.  I’ve worked hard on this and talked several friends’ ears off about songs I’ve heard or artists that seemed to work and thanks to their feedback I think this is a really good one.  It’s gone through several edits as well, and may potentially even go through more down the road.  So I’m saying this counts for today.
If you give it a listen (and I hope you do because I’m very proud of it so far), I hope you enjoy it and maybe discover an artist you didn’t know before.  It clocks in at around 51 minutes and features 13 tracks which span Quinn Trevelyan’s story and important events of the main game through to Trespasser.
If you are interested, below the cut is a list of tracks and a brief blurb or description about who or what they’re meant to represent.  I was going to go into things in more depth and talk about how I built it, why I picked the songs I did, and the B-Sides that were left on the cutting room floor, but after realizing I had written nearly 4 pages about just as many songs, I realized it was too much for anyone to read.  So below is just a very brief summary and I think that most of the music would speak for itself, but I’m happy to expand more on anything that anyone finds either interesting… or confusing.  (There is also Solas content because I knew a few of you love that.)
You have to click on this sentence to go to the playlist because Tumblr’s coding for “Read More” seems to be conflicting with the HTML code to embed a functional playlist.  Because of course it is.
Quinn’s tarot card is the Wheel of Fortune as his story is a series of unpredictable highs and lows.  What the Maker giveth, He also taketh away.  The playlist follows that trend of highs and lows with upbeat songs followed by darker or more mellow ones.  Whenever I create a playlist, I try to think of a general tone or sound that I want to be carried through the soundtrack.  I want the overall genre or sound to tell the story as much as the individual songs.  Because of that, you’ll see artists repeat a couple of times, and when they do it’s always intentional.  You’ll also notice that most of the vocalists are male.  This was again intentional because this is Quinn’s story, and he’s a man.  They are his songs and I wanted the vocals to reflect that.
The Cult of Dionysus - pre-Conclave Quinn
Quinn at his most basic and stereotypical before any character development happens whatsoever - poppish, upbeat, and maybe just a little obnoxious.  He smokes, he drinks, he fucks, and nothing else matters.
The Sound of Silence - Aloysius’ Theme
I like Aloysius as a more practical view and examination of Quinn and the cult that grows around him.  He affords an opportunity to look at Quinn both as the Herald but also as just a person.  He is stoic and mild-mannered, a dutiful soldier, and an excellent foil for Quinn.  This is also absolutely a reference to an Arrested Development joke.
Isle of Dogs - Quinn’s true theme
Quinn is a walking disaster constantly falling victim to his own hubris.  There’s a morose sort of resentment to the lyrics, of someone who is constantly struggling against the tide.  In a lot of ways, this is basically a reaction or push back to all the crap I have put him through.
Providence - “In Hushed Whispers”
There are no Templars here.  The first few lines relate a lot to the dismissal the fledgling Inquisition receives from what remains of the Chantry, but the rest of the lyrics are very much about the mages and Fiona’s dealings with the Venatori.
Seven Devils - “In Your Heart Shall Burn
No male vocals in this one to symbolize the change in perspective.  This is both a bit of an easy and obvious choice for this story beat.  Female vocals for Corypheus might seem strange, but when I created my Warden’s soundtrack I tended to use powerful choruses and female vocals for anything related to Blight, Archdemons, or the darkspawn.  I carried that idea over to this as Corypheus is one of the seven Magisters.
Caesar - becoming the Inquisitor
This is a softer and quiet interlude in the wake of the loss of Haven and struggle through the snow.  If the previous song marks the end of the first act, this song marks the beginning of the second.
King - “Here Lies the Abyss”
In my written world state, Alistair is both the king and the Grey Warden contact (this goes back to that longform fic I am working on).  I suppose it’s a bit unfair because in the end that has a major impact on why Quinn makes the decision he does at Adamant (a rather threatening letter from the Warden helps too).  Think of this as a duet between Quinn and Hawke.
My Type - the love interest
“Here Lies the Abyss” was completed first, then a romance triggered, then “Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts”.  This is that sort of inbetween interlude and is very much inspired by how I may have flirted with multiple characters a little too much and basically triggered several romances at once.  I also went into Quinn’s playthrough having no idea who I was going to romance and just let him shop around.  And it came down to a coin flip in the end, so “you have a pulse and you are breathing” is pretty much the only standards he has.
Boheme Supreme - party at Halamshiral
All I have to say is that I love techno swing, every single lyric in this song is perfect, and I want you all to picture Quinn Trevelyan walking into the Winter Palace with his Inner Circle entourage around him, dressed up in that outfit I drew with that peacock feathered cap and having a drink in his hand throughout the entire night’s affair.
Hell’s Coming With Me - “Doom Upon All the World”
This is the climax of the main game, the rematch between Quinn and Corypheus which I have to imagine is more impressive in concept than it was in game.  I chose the dialogue option when Corypheus calls Quinn an imposter, “I am the Maker’s chosen” as his final challenge.  Sometimes it’s easy to forget that this main is actually very Andrastian.  But he is, and the lyrics, “I am the righteous hand of God/And I am the Devil that you forgot/And I told you one day will see/I’ll be back I guarantee/And that Hell’s coming with me” are the perfect declaration.
Paradise - Jaws of Hakkon & The Descent
Another interlude song.  If the previous one is triumphant than this one is the beginning of a bad turn.  In the interim between the events of the main game and the Exalted Council, things begin to go wrong in little ways.  His relationship with Cassandra begins to break down, eventually ending in the two of them having frequent spats and going their separate ways after returning from the Frostback Basin.  This song is deceptively sarcastic about how good things are.
I Still Love You, Judas - Solas’ Betrayal
Solas… oh, Solas.  Does this song indicate a very complicated and layered relationship between Quinn and Solas?  Yes! Have I attempted to unpack any of this?  Nope!  Have fun with this one!
Tagging for this week: @kita-lavellan @silvanils @nivenor-krosis @drag-on-age @rosella-writes @inquisitoracorn
Battle Cries - Quinn and Cassandra
I saved this one for the very end because it is a story within a story.  It is sad and bittersweet, but also not.  This entire thing feels to me like a duet between Quinn and Cass on what was good, what could never last, and that it’s all over now but that’s okay.  Because “this isn’t a breakup, dear heart, it’s a season finale.”  Does this mean that Quinn sounds like Joey Batey when he sings?  Sure, why not.

PART I
One thing rang true and that was the prediction of the brutal blizzard of November 28th. Everyone prepped the best they could with the remembrance of how last Winter had ruthlessly blanketed their homes. There’s a frenzy for backup generators that get bought up in the Chicago stores for the anticipation. The first ominous whistle of the wind, and the pebbles of ice fall on the eve of Thanksgiving. Power flickers in each home giving them a moment of awkward darkness, before the backup generators kick in. The power companies in the city promise to have everyone serviced, but they start to service the scattered patches on the outskirts of the city first .
Most joked that was the brutal blizzard they had prepared for, until Mother Nature dropped her poker face. The ships with cargo became stuck in the harbor due to the icy fortress that froze over the gigantic lake. No lights of passing planes in the sky, as the wind turned into a sinister howl. Darkness engulfed the entirety of the city, except for a strip of hotels in neutral territory. The footmen of the families alert them that there seem to be only a handful of hotels that seem to be around. Meanwhile the temperature dips in the homes of those unlucky, and they must face a brash decision to not become the ice sculptures akin to the people of Pompeii.
Multiple phone calls are done, and just as their phones are about to die they get a booking. A hotel that mentions that the accommodations might be crowded -- However, they can host your groups and promise warmth as long as the storm doesn’t shut them down. Everyone packs up their children, pets, and housemates to journey to the only solace that isn’t sold out in all Chicago.
After a restless eternity everyone was given a room number with their baggage ( human and otherwise ). The group of people that checked guests in alert them that there is a room for the animals to stay in kennels or they may accompany the others up to the room. Just when everyone was annoyed after being crowded in the lobby, and having to wait decades to get from one floor to another in the elevator.  It doesn’t help there’s always that one asshole that tries to asphyxiate everyone with their heinous flatulence.
They FINALLY make it into their hotel room. Massive enough and customized with multiple full sized beds. No television, the heat blares up, it’s the poster child of the most bare necessities room. While everyone claimed a bed and stared haughty towards the guests that had ended up in the same room with them. A loud crackle followed by a slight rumble of their feet had the lights in the hotel rooms go off. The hotel doors seemed to have powered down, and anyone that tried to leave them --found they wouldn’t budge. A soft wheeze emitted from the heater in the room, and for a moment that’s the only noise in the room with you until the profanities start to flood. Winter wasn’t the only one that had prepped for the evening. The Walshes and their affiliates watch on with hidden elation as their plan goes into motion.
Part I will run from November 28th until December 3rd. Under the cut will be the groupings as well as some additional notes for this event.
Please don’t make any new starters open or closed that don’t pertain to this event while it’s happening. Normal replies can be done while the event is running, but it gets confusing timeline wise if people have additional threads that they start that would belong after the event timeline.
For this event specifically, the weather in Chicago is fictional. After the event you can feel free to glance at the Weather app and RP it out that way!
Animals will also be boarded at this neutral hotel. Keep in mind if the animals are left at your residence with the current temperature and no heat they will likely pass away.
Keep in mind that if your character has children (unless they are Walsh affiliates) they  likely have their kids in the room with them or any other NPC’s. If the character is a Walsh it was their choice to have them be ‘stuck’ in the room with them or left with a babysitter provided by the council.
For information on the bold names check the Walsh Discord channel.
PREP PLOT SLOTS CHOSEN
LIAM WALSH & IVY IVASHKOV volunteered to carpool with a hotel van to the hospital for sedatives and other harvesting supplies. AUDREY ROUSSEAU is already at the hospital and helps them fill the van before they all ride back to the hotel together. DAVUT DEMIR & KILLIAN WALSH are tasked with going to The Westin and sabotaging the hotel in time for the storm. They are told to do whatever necessary to make sure the hotel can’t accept any more guests before they return for the night. DARREN MURPHY took a smoke break after unloading only one of the supply vans at the hotel. LINCOLN DAWSON caught them smoking—as opposed to working—and made DARREN MURPHY finish unloading two other vans while they watched.
ASLYN WALSH collected the weekly stash owed from the business owners at Magnificent Mile. She delivered the money to the council without prying eyes of local law enforcement or rival gangs catching on. ARMANDE IVASHKOV & another associate, had the dirty work of cleaning up the old blood stained hotel rooms used for organ harvesting the night before. They made it presentable before opening night. Their efforts were doubled when other affiliates weren’t aware of the chore, and had set off to bloody the room with a fresh harvest session.TARON LYNCH & JOANNA "JOEY" O'SHEA are instructed to sabotage the backup power generators on the north side. Surprisingly, they didn’t get caught. CAOILAINN WALSH had to “check” everyone into the hotel—AKA, assign each guest to a room. Everyone converges in the lobby and watches them impatiently, and the later it gets, the more aggressive the crowd becomes. ASLI DEMIR & FLETCHER HARGRAVE met with Jean Jaques “JJ” Baptiste and persuaded him by discussing terms of agreement for him to temporarily close Romanet Hotel the night of the massive storm.

Rita Hayworth (1918-1987).
American actress, dancer and director.
.
She achieved fame during the 1940s as one of the era's top stars, appearing in 61 films over 37 years. The press coined the term "The Love Goddess" to describe Hayworth after she had become the most glamorous screen idol of the 1940s. She was the top pin-up girl for GIs during World War II.
.
On the advice of her first husband, Edward Judson, she changed her name to Rita Hayworth (instead of Rita Cansino) and dyed her hair auburn, cultivating a sophisticated glamour.
.
Hayworth is perhaps best known for her performance in the 1946 film noir Gilda, opposite Glenn Ford, in which she played the femme fatale in her first major dramatic role. Fred Astaire, with whom she made two films, once called her his favorite dance partner.
.
Never comfortable with fame or the trappings of a celebrity life, Hayworth was absent from films during her marriage (1949–51) to Prince Aly Khan. Although several of her dramatic performances in films of the 1950s are among her most-praised.
.
Hayworth grew increasingly frustrated with the acting profession. This frustration, coupled with another failed, stressful marriage (to singer Dick Haymes), caused her to become increasingly cynical and to display a sense of detachment from her work.
.
Rumours of Hayworth’s erratic and drunken behaviour began to circulate during the late 1960s, and her attempt to launch a Broadway career in the early ’70s was stifled by her inability to remember lines.
In truth, Hayworth was suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer disease.
In 1980, Hayworth was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, which contributed to her death at age 68. The public disclosure and discussion of her illness drew attention to Alzheimer's, which was largely unknown by most people at the time, and helped to increase public and private funding for Alzheimer's research.
.
She was married 5 times : Edward C. Judson ; Orson Welles ; Prince Aly Khan ; Dick Haymes ; James Hill.
She had 2 children.
.
Famous movies:

Cover Girl
The Lady from Shanghai

So long as we're doing angsty ships... how's about we do the angstiest ship of them all? Joey x Susie.
alright ya lil sheeze this is getting weird-
Joey and Susie? Basically everythin’ you’ve seen in the canon lore. Even for my own Joey who only like 2% of people know about, from his name Noir literally describes him as one cynical bitch. Susie refers to him as some ‘smooth talker’ and all that and he really just started doing so because 1. Susie at that time was having doubts at Drew and 2. Trying to lure her into the whole Angel whatchamacallit.
Im still trying to connect the dots why the hell Susie has a weird taste for men and even agree to be with this bastard aside from just being that naive herself and devoted to her career. And literally just one look at Malice you would clearly see how bad she’s gone through.
