I could've sworn i left a very long ask here once addressed to him but considering I cant find it I suppose I still owe him one.

Merle Highchurch, thank you. endlessly and repeatedly my dear, thank you. you are most of what I remember, and all things considered I knew you for such a short time. I did not deserve the kindness you showed me, and you did anyway, and more than *anyone* you saved the world, you tore down a terrible ideology that nearly consumed everything. everything that was or would've been. that long before had consumed me.

and more than anything it was YOU wasn't it? I didn't have much of a life, not after what I had become. but you were there, and in my last moments you brought me endless joy, simply by being irreparably and inconsolably yourself.

I do think I passed on during that moment at the beach, and when I listened to the podcast - and much what griffin had to have intended - I found happiness in the thought that I (though I did not know it was myself at the time) had finally gotten to rest, to be released from the infinity of time. but now, as I know the wheel still spins - and I with it, I do not resent that I must keep moving forward, and I believe you Merle are who taught my soul to understand that.

I'm still so endlessly happy it was with *you* that I moved from that life, you more than anyone else. I felt so at peace, for maybe the first time in millennia. *you* made me at peace. I would do all of it every terrible moment again just to experience that moment, to experience you.

thank you for having been you, Merle, I'm sure anyone you have in your life now must be as gifted as I was then. thank you.

one problem with having john as a kin type is just the fact that he was so dissociated from every thing. it makes recovering solid memories incredibly difficult. the most i have are things i saw in dreams or fan works that resonated with me.

other than that, i tend to just sort of vent my emotions through john and predict what i went through as him like that. like, when i feel lonely some times i’ll imagine what it could’ve been like for john after doing the retcon and what his relationships were like after that.

i guess that’s as efficient of memory recovering i can get with him, though. it sucks not being able to say you remember some thing for certain, and that your “memories” were just sort of pulled out of your ass.
