Some more Knightley propaganda
The scene in the book is great but I love the way they filmed this in this adaptation. I’ve seen this fifty million times and each time I feel this moment. So many things to love about Knightley here. It’s not just that he rescues a girl from social humiliation. It’s the modest, good-humoured way in which he does it, foregrounding her joy and comfort. He talks to her, engages her, smiles, so that she doesn’t feel like she’s being condescended to or pitied. But it’s also that he repairs Emma’s mistake. It was Emma’s series of blunders that walked Harriet into this moment, and Knightley repairs it. She doesn’t need to ask him to do it. He’s just there, dependably present and aware. (Like he is aware what an uncomfortable gift the pianoforte was for Jane for example). Just such a lovely guy to have as a partner.

I’m still on the Sherlock Holmes thing and I just. I love in Elementary how frequently the person driving the plot is just like one of the Most famous people from musicals. Episode about bees? Sutton Foster. Lucy Liu’s Watson’s back story? Jeremy Jordan. Holmes used to write letters to Laura Benanti! Vinnie Jones from Galavant is in it! It’s a veritable who’s who of the musically gifted and I’m obsessed
