I Didn't Expect You Part 2 ~ Conrad Fisher
Tumblr media
(Part 1) (Masterlist) (Part 3)
gif credit @madscline
synopsis: Y/N never expected it to be the summer that everything changed. Conrad, Belly and Steven were all dealing with the consequences of recent break ups whiles Jeremiah's wasn't acting like himself. Susannah was undergoing treatment that provided unpredictable health results and kept her loved ones on the edge of tragedy. Had they drained the well of the magic of Cousin's beach? Or could something new fulfil it again?
warnings: multichapter slow burn, warnings will update with every chapter, timeline is both POST S2 and a retelling of S2 with changes, everyone swears, Laurel/Cleveland, Susannah is sick, otherwise lots of fluff in this one
word count: 4,434

I just wanna know you better,
know you better, know you better now
All I know since yesterday is
Everything has changed
After I snuck in a power nap after unpacking with Belly, I headed down to the kitchen to check on the plan for dinner. I'd always looked forward to visiting Cousin's to taste Susannah's Pinterest recipe of the month. I shouldn't have been surprised to see Jeremiah at the stove stirring something aromatic, warming the kitchen up. "Well, look who's taken up the mantle of vacation cook." I teased and patted his back lightly after a quick peek over his shoulder at the sauce simmering.
"Not just vacation cook, either. Just wait, I've gotten a lot better in a year." Jere smiled through his intense focus and turned his head towards Laurel sitting at the island. "I'm ready for the carrots now, Laur."
As she dumped the shredded carrots into the sauce, she assured me when I sent a raised brow her way, "Don't worry, I'm just helping with prep. Cleveland is actually looking forward to impressing you all with his culinary skills so Jeremiah can actually enjoy his summer."
Jeremiah never took his eyes off the pot, "I told you, I'm into this now. Maybe I'm destined to be a famous chef!"
"You just had to add 'famous' in there, didn't you." Conrad turned the corner into the kitchen and flicked his brother in the ear. Jeremiah smacked his hand away as they both snorted a laugh.
"What can I say? I dream big!"
My hands found my hips without even noticing, "I'm really proud of you, Jere. It smells incredible. No thanks to Conrad." I shot my glare directly at him when his name left my lips.
He'd lifted two grocery bags onto the counter by the sink and was starting to unload vegetables when he scoffed. "Hey! I went all the way to the farmer's market to get stuff for the salad, if you must know. Actually make yourself useful and chop these." He tossed me a cucumber and a pepper before I could tell him that's the exact reason I came down in the first place. I got distracted by my own thoughts when he threw a big tomato that should have splattered all over the floor if not for sheer dumb luck. Conrad paused and mimicked throwing a radish bunch before I stared him down mouthing 'don't you dare'. When he finished washing the lettuce, he slid next to me at the island and pulled out the salad spinner.
Luckily there weren't any more shenanigans as we all worked together to finish the pasta, salad and fresh garlic baguette that Jeremiah swore was an elevated form of garlic bread he'd learned about from Top Chef. Conrad pointed out that he was surprised he picked anything useful up while watching Padma Lakshmi. Eventually Belly and Steven joined as a clean up crew, while Laurel set the table just like Susannah used to have it done up. Cleveland complimented Jeremiah's hard work and thanked Conrad for the quick surfing lesson before he'd tested his limits that afternoon. When everything was ready, Laurel went to get Susannah and the room was in a standstill. The anticipation was suffocating. It wasn't until Belly reached out and grabbed my hand that I realized I was holding my breath.
Susannah walked slowly, supported gently by her elbows by Laurel, with her signature bright grin for everyone in the room. She looked both better and worse than I'd seen her last. It was incredible what a sunny disposition could do and Susannah was the best at it seconded only by Jeremiah, with her sparkling blue eyes. The build up released into an awkward tension for exactly three seconds before Susannah sighed, "I can't believe you guys let me sleep all the way until dinner. Who's sneaky idea was that?" Her eyes scanned the room while Laurel chuckled by her side.
"That was all big brother over here, Mom. We wanted to surprise you!" Jeremiah smacked his brother in the chest as Conrad hung his head waiting for his mother's reaction.
"We had everything under control, Mom." He said and I glanced his way, taking in the new information until Conrad caught my eye and I looked back at Susannah in a flash. I kinda felt bad for giving him shit after hearing that.
"Of course you did, sweet boy, but I'm feeling good and next time I want a chance to order everyone around the kitchen." Laurel sat Susannah down at the head of the table while Jeremiah got to work fixing her a plate.
Cleveland, Conrad and Steven grabbed the various serving dishes and took their seats while I heard Steven yell back, "You got it, Susannah. I'm not going the whole summer without your jambalaya."
Dinner went smoothly after that. Susannah's spirit was as full as her energy when she focused on catching up with everyone around the table. Everyone complimented Jeremiah's culinary progress and Cleveland joined him in plans to treat everyone to a weekend feast before we all parted ways. Steven even talked a little bit about his breakup with Shayla and I reached over to give his hand a quick squeeze when his mouth turned down at the corners. Laurel got quiet before she admitted she couldn't believe how grown up Steven had gotten all of a sudden. The mood lightened a bit when he rolled his eyes and teased her for making his breakup about her empty nest syndrome.
Steven had been my best friend as long as I'd been staying at Cousin's over the past eight summers or so. Mom said it gave me a necessary break from the monotony of her condition and when Auntie Laur split from Uncle John, she said they needed me more than she did. Steven's breakup with Shayla happened before Prom at least and he seemed more angry than hurt after he talked to her the last time. Long distance was hard and she wasn't planning on coming back before Steven was headed to Princeton anyway. It was what was best for both of them and he knew it too. I tried to lift his mood after he got his Princeton acceptance a few weeks later by reminding him that he would have hated being tied down freshman year. Now he could charm his way around campus all he wanted without feeling a lick of guilt. This got the first smile out of him I'd seen since his Prom photos. He'd made the most of that night at least.
Jeremiah seemed to have the same idea and said, "This is exactly what you want though, Steve-O. No strings. No commitments. Focus on school…and Jersey girls." He really wasn't as slick as he thought when he put a hand up to direct the last part away from the parents. Conrad and Steven still shrugged and chuckled amongst themselves like he'd had a point.
"All right. New topic. I know you're dying to ask Y/N about Stanford and this is your moment." Laurel waved her hand to both shut Jeremiah up and encourage Susannah at the same time.
She put her hands down on the table for emphasis as her gaze narrowed in on me, "I can't believe you're going to Stanford in the fall. It's so exciting!"
"I'm glad you approve." I couldn't help but let the smile stretch my face at her joy.
"Approval, are you kidding? My little California twin." Susannah winked in my direction and I could have sworn I saw Conrad watching the scene play out.
"You can take the girl out of Cali but you can't take the Cali out of the girl." Laurel sing-songed as she finished her glass of wine.
"Why you gotta be so lame about it, Laur?" Susannah's shoulders dropped and she sent an exasperated look to her lifelong friend.
When Susannah got like this it always made us laugh and this time it was no different. Sometimes the only adult in the room was Laurel so at least she had Cleveland around, who was just listening attentively and taking in the group dynamics.
Laurel looked shocked for a second and cut back, "You're the one who–All right," and huffed in defeat before she turned back to me. "I'm excited for you too, Y/N. Beck's right, a change of scenery and a fresh start is an incredible opportunity at your age wherever you go."
Jeremiah was looking at Conrad when he said, "Summer everyday sounds pretty good to me," and punched his brother's arm which made me furrow my brow in confusion.
Susannah glanced their way with a mischievous look, "You know, I always told Conrad he'd find himself in the West coast."
Conrad looked at them both,"Subtle, mom."
"Well, if you aren't going to tell them–"
My jaw must have been on the floor as I gaped at him. "Wait, you're–"
"I'm waiting on late admission offers. Mom convinced me to apply over Christmas break." He shrugged it off like it wasn't a big deal but everyone knew the meltdown I'd had at the end of last summer trying to perfect my Stanford application.
Belly added with a teasing tone, "He made me proofread his essay like five times."
"Yeah, me too," Cleveland pointed at him and shook his head.
"OhmiGod, did everyone know but me? The person already going?" Steven looked scared as he swore he didn't so I looked around the table in disbelief and finally landed on Belly, "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Don't look at me! I told him to tell you." Belly raised her palms in surrender.
My eyes went back to Conrad who's smile just grew, "It's a big campus. We don't have to see each other." He shrugged again and dove into his second helping of pasta.
My face dropped as I rolled my eyes and swore to ignore him for the rest of the night. Susannah sighed and caught my eye, "Don't listen to him, Y/N. He's terrified of moving so far away from his mommy–"
"Hey!" Conrad tried to interrupt but he was laughing almost immediately when he heard Steven and Jeremiah break.
Susannah continued despite his protest and the howling in the background, "so I'm putting you in charge of him. I wanna see you both back at Christmas with the best tans of your life."
Jeremiah was dying and hitting his brother in the chest, "Okay, but is she wrong though?"
"Fuck you, bro. You still live with her!"
Jeremiah sobered long enough to utter, "And I cherish every second." He blew his mother a kiss like the charmer he always was and Susannah smiled stretched a little further.
When the boys finally settled down, it was time for dessert that Conrad had picked up from the market and snuck into the fridge without my knowledge at least. Strawberry shortcake; one of Susannah's favourites and we all assured her that while it was decadent, it still wasn't as good as her recipe. After the cake was polished off, I ran upstairs to slip into my swimsuit and coverup dress in case I felt like a dip in the pool once the food settled. A few of us tried to offer our help to Cleveland but he insisted that he had a clean up ritual he really enjoyed as long as we gave him the space to do so. He said it was a thank you to everyone for the meal and the invitation.
Conrad came up behind him and patted him on the chest, "I was just an errand boy and didn't know you were coming so have at it, boss!" And exited quickly out the backdoor, already pulling a joint out of his pocket.
Steven's eyes followed him even as Jeremiah was trying to make plans to head down to the beach for the bonfire. "Uh, yeah man. I'm down. Gimme a second to change and I'll meet you out front." Steven nodded in his direction as Jeremiah agreed and headed for the door.
"Yeah, thanks for the invite and everything but I no longer have the energy or the patience for bonfire party bullshit." I teased in Steven's direction, who was still staring out the backdoor.
When he finally looked my way again, he looked sheepish, "Yeah, yeah. I was gonna invite you but I figured as much. It was never really your scene."
"You know me well. Have fun though, seriously." I was about to walk away when Steven asked me to wait.
"Hey, do you think you could talk to Conrad?"
There's nothing he could have said that would have shocked me less. "Excuse me?"
"Yeah, I know. It's weird but…he's been off since we got here and Jere said longer. I don't know if it's Belly or just Susannah stuff but…"
"Did you hear him at dinner? What makes you think he wants to talk to me?"
Steven gives me a look like it's the stupidest thing I could have asked him so I concede. "Okay, whatever. Other than my family shit."
"You've always been the person who makes me feel better when…-like with Shayla. I think, no, I know he needs some of that right now." Steven always had the most effective puppy dog eyes. I was too weak to resist.
"I guess…I can try." I moved my gaze to a dark figure sat by the pool and started mentally preparing myself.
He started to back away but wouldn't take his eyes off me until he saw me heading outside. "Yes! You're amazing. I owe you, for sure."
I spat over my shoulder, "You think?"
"Okay, now. Before Jere leaves without me."
"Jeez, I'm going." Steven watched as I opened the sliding door and mouthed his thank you before jogging back upstairs to get ready for the bonfire.
The sun was almost down and the pool lights lit up the yard as the smoke wafted from the shadowed figure sitting on the edge. I rolled my eyes at my own apprehension and took a seat beside him before I lost my nerve entirely. The water was just cool enough to make the summer heat bearable for more than a few minutes.
"What's up?" He didn't look my way, occupied with his ritual.
I decided to start casually and try to work up to the kind of talk Steven was expecting. I still wasn't convinced that Conrad would be open to talking at all let alone to me. "Steven and Jere are headed to the bonfire soon. I wasn't sure if they told you."
He nodded. "You're not going?"
"No, the day was long enough. I came out here to stop myself from falling asleep on the couch." I kicked my feet in the water and debated splashing him.
"So much for Belly's power naps." He chuckled and finally glanced in my direction.
"Whatever, they work for her but I'm the one who drove us here." I shrugged.
There was a beat of silence before I pressed again. "What about you? Why aren't you going?"
"Same as you. Tired."
I tried not to let myself get too frustrated by his lack of response. It was weird behaviour from him though, "Hm."
That caught his attention again, "What?"
"Nothing. It's just, we know the bonfire was never my scene but you always went."
"And now I've accepted that it's not my scene either." There was an edge to his voice that told me to drop it.
"Fair enough… I was uh, I was gonna swim." I probably should have jumped in and splashed the shit out of him but there was an uneasiness that got to me.
"Okay. Don't mind me."
I stripped down to my one piece and kicked my dress and sandals a few feet away before driving in. The water really was the perfect temperature to be refreshing after the heat and stress of a long day. It felt good to stretch my limbs and work the muscles that no doubt were starting to cramp from driving for hours and falling asleep in an awkward position. Everytime I looked up, Conrad's eyes were on me and I struggled between meeting them for a few seconds before I realized he wouldn't be the first to look away. Belly had told me once that Conrad was confident in a way she'd never seen before. Shameless even, when he looked at her sometimes and she worried she'd never feel butterflies like that again. That same look intimidated other guys and coined him 'the mysterious type' around the Cousin's beach crowd. Belly said as she grew up, she'd hold his gaze longer and longer to test her theory and never saw him break concentration before her heart felt like it would beat right out of her chest. I had no intention of testing said theory and redirected my breaststroke in the opposite direction.
His joint getting smaller was the only real indicator that time was passing at all. The smell was annoying, of course, but it seemed to be wafting above me so I could admire the look of it dissipating into nothing instead. It was probably half an hour later, Conrad still perched on the pool's edge, when I climbed up the ladder, towelled off and sat back down beside him.
I looked at him, blowing smoke out over the pool water again, "Okay seriously, why didn't you tell me?"
He wouldn't look at me now, like he was sick of the sight but he still knew what I meant. "Do you own the school now?"
It didn't take much to deadpan my response. "You're funny."
He tried again. "So what? We tell each other things now?"
"When they directly impact each other's lives? Sure we do." I decided to let him get out whatever snark he needed before I got a real answer. This wouldn't turn into another stupid fight; we were too old for that shit now.
He narrowed his eyes in my direction. "You know I don't owe you anything just because we could be at the same school and living in the same state, right?"
And all of a sudden the plan went out the window and Steven would just have to accept that I tried and failed. "Okay, Conrad…" I got up to leave and went to bring my things inside.
"No, wait! I'm sorry. I–I dunno why I'm being such a dick."
I paused with an armful and hadn't decided yet if I wanted to listen to him. "Probably because you're so good at it."
"Okay, I'm sorry. Honestly. Belly was right, I should have told you when I applied. I just…I thought it might piss you off."
That made me turn to look his way, his head hung between his shoulders and his face lit up light blue and sullen as ever. "Since when do you care if you piss me off?"
"Now! Now, I do. With this. I didn't want you to think I was encroaching on your thing or following you or something. My mom's been talking to me about going to Cali since the beginning of high school but I never really thought–not with everything that happened."
The mask seemed to be gone now and that was the only reason I sighed and sat back down. Maybe Steven was right; maybe Conrad wanted to talk in his Conrad way. "I didn't think you were following me. Or encroaching. I just didn't expect you to wanna leave right now so I was even more surprised to hear it at all."
"I don't but…" It was like he was losing his words or thoughts halfway into getting them out. Maybe it was the weed going to his head. "I shouldn't have taken it out on you. Of course we would see each other at school. You know, if you want to. It's nice to know we wouldn't have to figure everything out alone there, right? It's exciting." He sounded sincere until he mocked the excitement.
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah…and Jere's right too. I'm worried about being so far away from Mom."
"She seems really excited for you. You're giving her what she wants, you know."
"I know, I'm just used to being an hour away at Brown and that was bad enough. Let alone six and that's just the flight." He got worked up by the thought alone and my heart clenched in my chest for him. I knew that feeling. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure."
Conrad took a moment to collect his thoughts before he let out a deep breath. "You've come here every summer for years and you're away from your mom for so long. How do you…?"
I audibly sighed and started chuckling at myself before I could stop it, "Is it a cop out if I say practice? No, that's partly true. It gets easier and it helps that I know my dad is dedicated to taking care of her. And when I'm there there's nothing I can really do to help. I think that's the worst part actually. Sorry, I–"
"No, I asked."
I looked at him then and it was one of the few times I knew he was really listening to me. "A few years ago, I think I was 13, I begged my mom to let me stay home that summer. It was really bad for a little bit before and I just thought, what if I miss it? What if I'm not there? She said I was grasping for control I never really had. I was trying to pause my life for something inevitable. And not only was that not fair to myself but it wasn't fair to her either."
His eyes fell as he nodded and then flashed a small smile, "The moms must be conspiring behind our backs because that sounds suspiciously like what Mama Beck Fisher said about Stanford. Do the thing that scares you. That's how you really live."
I laughed a little at the sentiment. "Sounds like you got a cooler version at least."
"It's not like I didn't know about your mom but…I don't think I ever realized–"
"It's okay, Conrad." I shook my head, wanting to avoid that line of thought.
"You just seem so together all the time." I could feel his direct gaze when he said it even when I wanted to laugh in his face.
"I'm not, I just…when it comes to Susannah I feel like I've done this before. Been here. The worst fucking kind of familiarity. I don't even know what that has to do with anything, I just think I don't feel it yet. Not really. God, does that make me horrible?"
Conrad immediately shook his head in reassurance as I took a steading breath. "No. I don't think so, anyway. I think it'll catch up to you but…would you promise you'll tell me if– if you wanna to talk about it ever? You know if Steve-O or Belly aren't around. I dunno, maybe it'd help me to be there for someone else, you know?"
I turned my head to gape at him for the second time that night but he wasn't looking back at me this time. He was inhaling the smoke and blowing it over the pool again like he'd been doing for over an hour now. "Yeah sure."
He nodded once and put it out on the concrete and then away in his pocket before he lifted himself up.
I had to ask before he walked away, "Hey, Con?" I didn't continue until he turned a bit to acknowledge me. "Stanford is what you want too, right? It's not just for Susannah?"
A smile grew across his face, "You think I would've put myself through that brutal application process if I didn't?"
I coughed a laugh at his quick mood change, "That's right. I forgot about those ten proofreads."
He shook his head in amusement, "Exaggeration. Besides, I might as well follow my built-in babysitter."
"Fucking hell…" I winced as my head hung between my shoulders this time.
"Can't take it back now! Mama's boy like me, I'll never make it on my own!"
"I never agreed to that!" I said louder than I meant to in my frustration. It had been dark for a while even though I had no idea what time it was. "Would you keep it down?!?"
Conrad opened the sliding door and scolded, "Shh Y/N, the neighbours!"
I was left with the usual exasperation that was signature oldest Fisher and everything felt right in the world again. Well kinda. It should satisfy Steven anyway and I could mark it off as my good deed of the week. I looked out over the view and thought about the strange connection you had with the Fishers now. My mom had had MS for as long as I could remember and the constant state of grief in my house growing up was as normal as anything else in my life. Everyday was clouded with some difficulty, old or new, and the only real reprieve was summer with my cousins at Susannah's beach house. I could be a different person there who no one really knew outside my family, Fishers included. I'd even heard the whispers of my quiet, closed off nature and it always put a smirk on my face. It was like a fresh start at the end of every school year even if I didn't change at all. I could pretend for a few months that I was a normal girl who's biggest problem was my baby cousin's unrequited crush on an unattainable older jock, my sad lack of crush to obsess over instead and my best friend's tendency to get himself into trouble without ever trying.
A yawn pulled me from my thoughts and I gathered my things and climbed the stairs towards the quiet upstairs. I heard the shower running but didn't think anything of it as I passed the bathroom until the door swung open and the yellow light hit my peripheral vision. I looked right at Conrad walking across the hall to his room. He was noticeably wet-skinned and sauntering in a pair of boxers. The moment lasted a second before my eyes caught his trailing down and then back up to my eyes as he ruffled his wet hair with a towel. And then the door was shut and I turned away and shook my head to rattle my brain awake enough to make it to my bed in one piece. There was no counting for the ways in which the first night at Cousin's beach could mess with my head.

CLASS 1B HEADCANNONS THAT MAKE SENSE
Tumblr media
☰ NOTES⋮ reader! is in Class 1-A ; gn!reader x Class 1-B; some mildly suggestive themes
Tumblr media
𝐀𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐄 tends to weld himself onto your side whenever he’s exhausted from training. It may earn him a scolding from Vlad-sensei or even Shiozaki-san, but you never complain and if Yosetsu gets to fall asleep cuddled in your warmth, that’s his prerogative.
𝐊𝐀𝐈𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐀 carries a polaroid of you in his wallet. It’s frayed at the edges from time, but it’s the first polaroid you ever took together. He keeps it alongside his provisional hero license because it’s the best motivation he has for the future.
𝐊𝐀𝐌𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐑𝐈 has a pet Rhinoceros Beetle he keeps in his dorm room. You caught the little guy when he took you bug-catching for your first date to the local park. It wasn’t until you compared him to the little guy with pink cheeks and a wide smile that Togaru just had to have him.
𝐊𝐔𝐑𝐎𝐈𝐑𝐎 hosts a seánce in your room every month. He would do it in his room, but Shiozaki’s room is close to his and he’d rather not be accused of sinful behaviour (as if your other activities aren’t sinful, but Shiozaki-san doesn’t need to know that).
𝐊𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐎 often plans informal joint class outings with Yaoyorozu so your classes can bond. It doesn’t always work—Mineta, Monoma and Bakugo are banned for the next three activites—but she’s just glad to see you mingle with her classmates.
𝐊𝐎𝐃𝐀𝐈 is a frequent vistitor of UA’s communal garden. In fact, she recently signed up to have her own plot so she can grow tomatoes and cucumbers—both for her and for you.
𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐎𝐙𝐀𝐊𝐈 was in her churchs’ choir. She doesn’t do it often, but if you’re especially tired than she’ll sing you to sleep. It works everytime.
𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐃𝐀 has an Uncle in France that he’s really close to. His Uncle is the person who told him the story of the Beast of Gevaudan, and the first person Jurota confided in about his crush on you. If you ever get married, his Uncle Daichi has offered his estate for the wedding.
𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐃𝐀 always wanted to give Boxing a go, but didn’t have the courage to visit a gym (largely due to his size) until you offered to join him. It’s one of the many things he’s grateful to you for and now something of a couples’ activity for the weekends.
𝐓𝐒𝐔𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐈 didn’t know you could speak English until you laughed at her insulting Monoma during a joint training session. Now, she begs you to talk in English whenever you’re together because she finds your accent really cute.
𝐓𝐒𝐔𝐁𝐔𝐑𝐀𝐁𝐀 definitely fainted the first time you agreed to study with him in his room. Bleeding nose and all. The same thing happened when you proposed to study in your own room so now you just work together in the common room. It’s better for his health that way.
𝐓𝐄𝐓𝐒𝐔𝐓𝐄𝐓𝐒𝐔 will deny it for as long as he can, but sometimes he does provoke you into a senseless argument. Namely because you have an adorable pouty face and his heart is reduced to a pandrum whenever you kabedon him to tell him off. It’s glorious.
𝐓𝐎𝐊𝐀𝐆𝐄 has a dinosaur onsie that she wears whenever she misses you. It’s not her colour, but it’s the same colour as your eyes so it’s automatically her favourite. She’s also got a matching pair for you in green, one that she’s planning to give you for your birthday.
𝐅𝐔𝐊𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐒𝐇𝐈 has an all year-round pass to the Manga Museum in Kyoto. It’s become a post-exam tradition to visit the Museum everytime you want a celebrate, because in addition to reading some of his favourite manga, you often stop for ramen on your way back to UA.
𝐇𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐍𝐔𝐊𝐈 tends to smell like jasmine and sweet orange with how often he lathers his hands in massaging oil. It earns him some light ribbing from the boys at first, but that ends as soon as you show up smelling the exact same from massaging Juzo in return.
𝐁𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐎 practiced his confession to you for two weeks because he didn’t want to stammer mid-confession. It didn’t work, but it turned out that you liked him with his stammer anyway; in fact, you have a nervous tic of over gesticulating which he soon found was endearing all the same.
𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐎𝐌𝐀 has a growing pile of Franco-Belgian comics in your room. 9/10 times his comics lead to an argument between him and your classmates whenever he comes over to take one back. Bakugo’s now petitioning to have him banned.
𝐘𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐆𝐈 is an avid fan of Kabuki theatre; in particular, the popular horror classic Yotsuya Kaidan. For your first Halloween as a couple, you dress as Tamiya Lemon and Oiwa. Not a conventional couple by any means, but it makes Reiko glow in a way you’ve never seen before so it’s worth it.
𝐑𝐈𝐍 read that couples who watch the first snowfall are destined to stay together forever so he plans your first date for late-Autum. He’s shivering for most of your time together, but there are two highlights by the end of the night: when you worriedly draped your scarf around his neck and when a snowflake landed on his cheek in the middle of a spontaneous kiss.

~♥︎Part 4♥︎~
~♥︎Part 3♥︎~
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Now come Agatha, we must go. It's time for Professor Dovey to grant us our magic."
You led Agatha into the building before feeling a strange amount of negative energy. You looked over to the School of Evil, noticing an abnormal red dust circling a room. Agatha shook you to get your attention, "Are you okay, Y/N?"
Looking back at Agatha, you slowly nodded before looking back at the room. You looked back at Agatha, apologizing for your ignorance of time. Grabbing her hand, you quickly led her to the auditorium and got in line with the evers.
As you drew closer to Professor Dovey, you pushed Agatha to go first and gave her words of encouragement. Before she could get her magic, you heard the nevers whispering amongst themselves. Agatha's friend, Sophie, pulled the curtains open and presented herself to both schools. Posing, she then walked with sass up to Lady Lesso, earning her magic.
Sophie looked evily at her magic before looking over to Tedros, who held a stoic expression towards her. She frowned before looking at you and slyly waving her fingers towards you. She walked back toward the exit, not before she bumped into your shoulder and laughed to herself.
Looking over Agatha, who looked shocked, you placed your hand on her shoulder and gave her a smile. Agatha turned once again towards Professor Dovey and got her magic.
After Agatha, you walked forward and breathed in deeply before sighing. You offered your finger earning your magic. Once Professor Dovey pulled away, a sudden gust of wind encircled you. Your hands grew small vines, and your hair slowly turned a platinum blonde.
Your fingers glowed, and Professor Dovey looked at you with concern. She then lifted her wand and opened a portal. Agatha looked in wonder before her mouth was left agape. An elegant lady walked slowly into the portal and looked around in curiosity.
The White Queen looked around before meeting with her daughter's figure. "Oh, Y/N!" She waved her finger, chanting a spell. Within seconds, the vines disappear, and the wind vanished. Agatha and your mother ran to you, helping you up.
Slowly, you started to gain consciousness, noticing your mother you quickly hugged her with love. "Mother, what are you doing here?"
"Oh my love. You started losing control of your powers. I'm glad Professor Dovey was able to get me before you had done something brash."
Professor Dovey walked up to you before turning her attention to your mother. " Mirana, I see you are well." You and Agatha looked at each other, feeling the tension rising. "Wonderful to see you again, Clarissa. Thank you for getting me, I fear what would have happened to my dear Y/N if you hadn't called me." Agatha joined your side before whispering, "What is going on with them?" You looked at her before shrugging your shoulders.
"Y/N, why don't you and Agatha go to the cafeteria and have some lunch. The same goes for the rest of you. Go and enjoy today's lovely lunch." Professor Dovey said, her eyes never leaving your mother's. As everyone exited out, you hesitated, not wanting to leave your mother's side. She turned towards you and gave you one of her side smiles. "Y/N, my dear, go and have some lunch. I'll join you in a bit and I'll take you your favorite tea."
You nodded and quickly gave her a kiss on the cheek before linking your arms with Agatha. Looking back, you quickly turned around, heading to the cafeteria.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
"What was going on between your mom and Professor Dovey?" As you two sat down, the fairies brought over two plates for each of you. One was filled with salad adorned with tomatoes and cucumbers and the other with a small rotisserie chicken. "I have no clue. My mother never mentioned knowing the professor, but I do wonder."
Enjoying your meals, the two of you sat in silence before someone placed their plates next to yours. Looking up, you noticed it to be Gregory. He bowed, "Agatha, Y/N, would you to mind if I sat with you two?" You looked at Agatha, who nodded her head. "Of course not, Gregory! It would be an honor." Gregory quickly sat down and started to eat. "Gregory, why aren't you eating with Tedros?" Agatha asked.
"To tell you both the truth, I got kicked out of the table. Beatriz said I didn't belong there and that she was saving that seat for the Queen." You lifted your hand covering your mouth before you started to chuckle. Agatha and Gregory looked at each other before asking what was so funny. "It's funny how she thinks my mother still enjoys her presence."
"Y/N, your prince charming is coming this way." You looked at Agatha before looking where she was looking. Three tables down was Tedros making his way over to you. When he reached you, he bowed down, then gently grabbed your hand. Leaning in, he tried to kiss it, but you quickly pulled your hand away.
"Can I help you, Tedros?" The prince quickly stood up and walked to Gregory. Gregory got up, took his plates, and sat next to Agatha. Tedros quickly sat next to you and greeted both Agatha and Gregory. "Tedros, can we help you?"
In that moment, you heard the familiar heeled clicks of your mother. You turned around and quickly smiled at the sight. The White Queen was bringing you your favorite tea and snack. Beatriz stood up and made her way to your mother before she could reach you. The other three followed your eyes and were met with the White Queen and the princess.
"Ms. White, it is such an honor to see you again! I haven't seen you in such a long time!" Beatriz tried to go in for a hug only for the Queen to lean back. Beatriz rubbed her palms individually, quickly got a nervous smile, and asked. "Ms. White, would you like to come sit with us?"
Your mother only stared at Beatriz before going around her and walking to you. Embarrassed, Beatriz stormed out and probably went to complain to Professor Dovey.
Werewolves came to your table and pulled out a chair for your mother at the head of the table next to you and Agatha. She thanked the werewolves, but before she could sit, she handed you your tea and snack. The tea was a rose petal tea mixed with a bit of dragon's honey, or rather a bit of their blood, and a thieves finger. The snacks were four cakes, one to make you small, one to make you big, and to let you float, and the other to become normal again.
Smiling widely, you turned towards your mother, "You remembered all my favorites!" She only waved her finger around before she placed it on your nose, quickly taking it away. "Now, Y/N, eat your food so we can take a trip back to Wonderland." Everyone in the cafeteria looked between you and the White Queen. Agatha, Tedros, and Gregory all looked at your mother in shock. "Of course, it would only be for a few days, so your friends are invited."
Agatha quickly spoke out, "Is it because of her magic?" Your mother shook her head with a playful smile, "Oh no, of course not, it's just my dear friend, the Mad Hatter, is getting married. Y/N and her magic are completely normal, so there isn't much to worry about."
"The Mad Hatter is getting married? Well, isn't that just a surprise."
"Yes, well, he somehow found a way to make his hats sentient and falls in love with them."
"Isn't this his eleventh marriage?"
Your mother raised her hand and chuckled softly. "The Mad Hatter certainly has enough love for everyone. Now let me leave you, I planted a very rare plant in the greenhouse when I was younger, and now I need it for some potions. I'll be waiting for you at the rose hedge so we can go back to our home." She smiled gently and placed her hand on your cheek before placing a kiss on your temple.
You turned around and smiled at Agatha before pulling the tea cup to your lips. All the evers had faces of disgust showing while the nevers wanted to know how the tea tasted like. "Y/N, I'm not too sure about the tea. Are you sure it's safe to drink?" You nodded your head and looked over at Gregory, who was disgusted at the sight of the finger. Agatha looked into it and asked, "Y/N, why is it purple, and please tell me that actually isn't a person's finger."
"It's purple because of the dragon honey or blood, and the finger is pickled with the liquid of justice. Of course, it is also rose petal tea. Would you like to try it?"
Agatha looked at Gregory, then Tedros, with uncertainty before reaching out for the cup. Passing it to her, she lifted up the tea cup and was met with a sweet taste. She looked at it in shock before taking another sip. "It tastes almost like candy, but how?"
"It's the dragon honey and the fermented finger adding to the tea. Would you like some Gregory?" You said as Agatha gave you back the cup. Gregory only shook his head and excused himself to the bathroom. "I would like to try some." You looked at Tedros before tilting your head. "I'm sorry, not to be rude or anything, but aren't you supposed to be with Beatriz."
Said Prince only shook his head, "She said I talked too much about you." In shock, you only nodded and passed the tea to him. He brought it up to his lips, tasting the sweet tea. "Agatha is right. The taste is almost like a chocolate covered strawberry but different." He made eye contact with you and gave back your tea cup.
Blushing, you accepted it back slightly, brushing your hands against his knuckles. You looked down at the tea before looking up at Tedros, who was already admiring you. You stayed like that before he heard the voice of Sophie.
"Tedros, hello. I am Sophie, someone who is supposed to be a princess, unlike someone." Sophie said before her eyes met with Agatha's. Guilt filled Agatha's eyes before tears threatened to fall. "I'm afraid I don't know of a princess named Sophie. Are you the never reader who came with Agatha."
You looked at Tedros in shock. It seems he had accepted Agatha as an Ever and started to acknowledge her as a person. "Oh, Tedros, Tedros, Tedros." Sophie said as she flickered her eyes towards you. "Is this the future Queen of Camalot? Or are you being delusional like the rest of us? Even Hort thinks he can get with her."
"Hey! You promised you would keep it a secret!" Looking over, you saw Hort trying to hide out of embarrassment. You felt Tedros tense up and quiet down. You looked at Agatha, who had an angry glare towards Sophie.
"What is going on?" The cafeteria went silent hearing the voice of Professor Dovey. Sophie made her escape going towards the never dorms. Professor Dovey told everyone to go back to chatting before she met with your eyes. Staring at each other, she offered a nervous smile, leaving hurriedly shortly after.
"Well, wasn't that chaotic." Agatha said before you felt Tedros grab your hand. "Y/N, allow me to apologize to you. I never meant for my father to -"
"Break us apart?" Tedros' eyes widened. "Tedros, I think we can all agree that you don't fancy Beatriz or her horrible, horrible attitude." Agatha then commented on whether you all should go to the dorms. You looked around, noticing the multiple eyes staring at your table.
"Yes, I suppose we should. Tedros, I suppose you and Gregory should pack." Tilting his head, he asked, "What for?"
"You, Gregory, Agatha, and I are going to my dear home, Wonderland."
I love your Gregor dates fics and not just because I requested them! So I have another idea since they're starting to get more comfortable with one another. They're on an island right? Maybe there needs to be a followup date where they go to the beach and go swimming/spend time in the water enjoying the weather?
Gregor Date #3!
Tumblr media
Summer has arrived on the island with a sudden and oppressive wave of dry heat, and the inhabitants take to the waters to cool off. Gregor invites you to join him after work one day for a sunset swim, and promises to regale you with tales of bravery, all of which he will make up on the spot since he doesn't actually remember any of them. His giggle at the end of the offer seals the deal, and as you drop your work bag in your entryway, you feel a sense of excitement rising. Preparation is fairly quick, although you gripe over your swimsuit selection. They all seemed to look great when you bought them, but now as you try them on in front of the mirror, you find every single nitpicky flaw. Finally settling for a high-waisted two piece with a high neck halter top, you wrap a thin, flowy cover-up over it all and plop a big, floppy hat on your head.
Gregor is knocking at the door, right on time, and you open it with a huge smile. Each date has left you feeling increasingly comfortable (and increasingly infatuated) with his expressive eyebrows, disarming giggles, and infectious joy for life. He's equipped with a backpack, wearing swim trunks and a tank top, and you're quick to notice his nicely-rounded shoulders and strong arms, remembering how he carried you so effortlessly.
"Well hellooooo my lady!" he says in greeting, opening his arms for a hug. You've never felt so much of his bare skin, and it radiates heat as you nestle yourself against his chest, catching a delightful whiff of musky soap mixed with a slight bit of sweaty man stank. He releases you, stepping back to look you up and down, and for once you don't feel sheepish or under scrutiny. "You look like a fresh island breeze! Let's go!" he declares, offering you a gentlemanly arm.
The walk down to the water is a smooth, winding path through the village, and the delicious smells wafting from all the restaurants and food carts makes your mouth water. One street vendor in particular has an eye-catching array of gyros, stuffed with thinly-shaved meat slices, tomatoes, cucumbers, and sauce, and both you and Gregor pull over to check them out.
Five minutes later, you're on your way, hands full of a warm pita wrapped in blue and white checkered paper, continuing your conversation between bites. The beach stretches out before you; it's one of the more remote ones on the island but the heat has driven almost everyone to the ocean, so there are a handful of people scattered around it. The water is impossibly bright, a glowing blue-green, and you can see the bottom all the way out to sea.
Tumblr media
The sand is impossibly soft, and its pastel peach color makes it look even more inviting. Finding a snug little spot against a large piece of driftwood, Gregor drops the backpack, tucking his food wrapper in a side pocket, and brings out a large beach blanket, throwing it across the sand and tucking it underneath the wood.
"Might want to cool off first, eh?" he asks, whipping off his tank top without waiting for an answer, and you're distracted by a sudden urge to touch his broad chest and nestle your fingers in the little tuft of hair in the middle. You shake your head to try to brush the thought aside, which he takes as a response to his question. "Oh, no? No worries!" he continues brightly.
"Oh, sorry!" you correct, "No! I was... thinking about something else. No, that sounds great! Just... gotta put some sunscreen on first," you assure him, slowly unwrapping your cover-up and trying not to look at your body with judgment. You've been working on loving yourself just as you are, focusing on all that your body does your you, viewing it through an appreciative eye that's unburdened by unrealistic societal expectations. But it's still a lifelong struggle. Gregor, however, is a delightful assistance in that realm.
"Look at you!" he exclaims, unabashedly enraptured at the sight of you. His gaze doesn't feel unwelcome, though he doesn't let it linger too long. "Need some help with that?" he asks, without a trace of ulterior motives, as you fix your hair on top of your head, shake the sunscreen bottle, and pour some into your hands.
"Oh, um... Thanks," you admit, handing him the bottle and turning your back to him. He gently spreads it across your shoulders and up the back of your neck, hands firm and yet incredibly gentle. You try not to shiver visibly at his touch, relishing the sensations. He continues down the outsides of your arms and puts an extra little blob across the middle of your back that pokes out from the high-waisted bottoms. You could swear you hear a self-conscious little giggle as he smooths it back and forth.
"Your turn," you say, finishing rubbing it into your face, and one of his sharp eyebrows arches in playful delight. He stands before you, lifting his arms out to the sides, and closes his eyes, upturning his face toward the sun as though he is totally at your mercy. This is going quite well. You pour a decent amount onto your hands, rubbing them together before spreading it across his back. You're trying not to enjoy yourself too much as your hands slide down his ribs and across his muscular little waist, and when you rub the sunscreen up the outsides of his arms, his eyes meet yours in a way that makes your heart skip a beat, and you'd very much like to kiss him in that moment.
"Well that was an unexpected perk! We might need to venture out into the sun more often," he chuckles, waggling his eyebrows suggestively and earning a blushing little chortle from you. "So shall we?" he asks, gently taking your hand in his, giving you a lovely little case of the tingles, and walks toward the water. The two of you wade in, savoring the warm yet refreshing water as it rises to your waists. There's a gentle sea breeze, just enough to brush your hair back from your face, and Gregor gives you another affectionate look.
"So, you want to hear the tale of the commando droid ambush?" he says conspiratorially, arching an eyebrow with mock intensity. You laugh, wading in a little deeper, and nod. "Excellent!" he continues, "So there we were... on a mission on some planet... and we were charging into a cave... to find... something... or fight someone..." He giggles, swirling the water around him with his arms as a wave gently splashes against his chest. "It was dark, and it had become totally silent... except for the sound of our feet... when all of a sudden... ATTACK!"
The last word is yelled, for dramatic effect, and he leaps suddenly into the water behind you, casting a flurry of water droplets up your back and hair that startles you. His arms find you from behind and wrap you snugly as he rises to his feet, shooting back up out of the water with you in his grasp, holding you slightly up out of the water and turning in a little circle. You laugh at the absolute surprise and ridiculousness of it all, heart thrilling at his closeness and strength.
"They were all around us! Every direction! We were outnumbered! But never you worry -- I was quick on my feet! Lightning fast, I whipped out not one, but five electromagnetic pulse grenades! I scattered them in every direction, and we dove for cover," his voice increases in volume, getting slightly more squeaky, and you're giggling uncontrollably now. "Then BOOM!"
With perhaps too much enthusiasm, he throws you in the air, and you land in the water with the most ungraceful kerplunk you could have imagined. Momentarily underwater, you burst to the surface, hat floating away, chunks of loose hair escaping your bun and framing your face in a straggled mess. The shock on your face gives him a clue that he may have gone too far, and his excitement is immediately mixed with contrition.
"Ohhhh I'm sorry!" he says with a nervous chuckle, "I got carried away!"
"It's okay," you laugh, pushing your hair out of your eyes and attempting to salvage any sort of put-together look.
"Well, I guess I should be fair," Gregor squeaks, taking a deep breath and plunging himself under the next wave. He comes back up, slicked-back hair now flat and wet on his forehead, and you never realized you were such an overly-romantic sucker for glistening droplets of water on a strong, manly chest. He catches your gaze, running both hands over his head to push his hair back, and grows slightly serious.
"Thank you for coming with me," he says, sincerity across his face.
"Of course! I love our time together!"
He giggles, a bit sheepishly, and draws closer, eyes darting to the side, and you feel his hand reach your waist, sending an electric shock through your body at the touch of his skin on yours under the water. His eyes come back to yours, a meek inquisitiveness about them, and you smile, taking a step toward him as the small waves rock the two of you back and forth. You put a hand on his forearm, and, feeling emboldened by the bliss on his face, reach the other one up to his chest, giving it a light caress before flattening your palm against it. His other arm wraps around your back, pulling you up against him, and the warmth and touch is intoxicating.
He holds you close for a moment, gazing into your eyes with a joyful calm, and slowly leans in, causing your heart to pound in your chest. He touches his forehead to yours, tracing his nose gently across yours a time or two, then lifts his head and places an unfathomably tender kiss on your forehead. The gentle lulling motion of the waves, combined with his firm yet soft embrace, blend in with the lingering spark of his lips on your skin, and you suddenly realize why the women on the holo films do that swooning thing.
He pulls away, slowly, eyes closed as if continuing to savor it, mouth curving into a huge smile. You let out a content sigh, and he opens those honey brown eyes, giving you one last squeeze before releasing you into the ocean.
"Race you to the shore?" he invites, suddenly grinning with an ambitious spark in his eye, and you laugh, wading as quickly as you can, trundling through the water with arms waving back and forth for momentum and balance. He dives ahead like a dolphin, arms pointed in front of him, and pops up a few feet ahead. The two of you feel like kids again, cackling and pushing toward the sand with absolutely no attempt at graceful movement. He's got you by a few feet, and in a last-ditch effort, you grab an ankle that he foolishly let come too close. You didn't mean to, but your grasp throws him off balance, and he flops onto the sand on his side, letting out a little squawk of surprise.
"Ohhh my bad!" you exclaim worriedly, rushing to bend over him to see if he's alright. On closer inspection, however, he is laughing, and pulls you to the ground next to him. The sand is soft, but immediately sticks to every inch of your wet body, and you let fly a little curse word before you can hold it back.
"What a mess!" Gregor giggles, rolling closer to brush your hair from your face. You're both lying on your sides, facing each other, with the waves barely tickling your toes. The setting sun beams the last of its warm golden rays, and you find yourself lost in his eyes again, eyes that can somehow be intense yet giddy, soulfully old yet childishly innocent. You sigh at his gentle caress, as the backs of his fingers linger on your cheek before resting on your arm. "I don't think I'm doing all of this right," he admits sheepishly.
"I wouldn't have it any other way," you say quietly, and his blissful smile grows.
II. I Tend a Garden
Ennis drew open the blinds. By now the sun had risen and warmed the earth. Swirls of heat rose from the dirt and distorted the air in the most minute, nearly imperceptible ways, like dragging a wet paintbrush through a small spot of watercolor paint, pulling the delicate pigment across the paper. Insects clung to the cool windows and mice cowered for shade amongst the garden plants, gorging themselves on watery vegetables, cucumbers, tomatoes and the like. This was the patch of farm he left for the wilderness, that he tended to for the animals that belonged to nature. His own food was grown on the other side, facing the cornfield. Blackberry bushes grew on their own by the low shoulder that divided his territory from that of the thousands of green stalks.
Ennis cracked open a window, letting the chilled air that had clung to his walls join the heat outside. The breeze breathed balmy wind into the room which tousled the curtains. It brought in the scent of wheat and earth and smoke from a fire that had not ravaged but simply burned, impotent upon a stick and unable to claim the field.
He turned from the window, moving across cherrywood floors with bare feet that padded quietly to the poplar chair, smooth, ivory, like bone in the light, and contrasted against the red wood on which it rested. Robin lied opposite from him, laying with legs propped up by the armrest of the couch, covered by a thin, dusty orange throw, his short grey hair peeking out from underneath, shoes ruined and a pebblish-colored coat that clung to his skin from sweat. The fabric was thin and reached just past his mid-thighs.
Ennis took the mask set out on the table at his side, next to an untouched glass of water and affixed it to his face as the man began to stir, disturbed by the change in brightness and now vividly aware of the pain in his older joints. He hissed loudly, bending over and clutching his knees, righting himself properly before the man who sat still and observed him, leaning in, hunched and curious and silent.
“So this is all your shit, then.” Robin spoke loudly, in a mix of disbelief and inconvenience, eyes squinted slightly and brow furrowed in confusion. He gestured vaguely to unfamiliar surroundings, his body regretting the motion instantaneously. The man in front of him gave him one nod, slow and earnest, shifting slightly where he sat, clasping his hands in front of his knees. “You know, people think you’re a ghoul, something occult and eerie. Spiritual types think you’re the Devil.” Robin added.
“People think I’m you.” the man countered, a simple statement, tilting his head to the side as if prompting something out of the man in front of him.
“Well, they do now.” Robin sighed, wincing slightly as he leaned back into the soft couch cushions. He pinched the bridge of his nose. “No one gets that I was by the last body 'cause I was investigating it, as the town’s only detective?” he shook his head in a kind of mirthless disbelief as he stared out of the window above the kitchen sink.
“You retired. I get the town paper, you know.” Ennis corrected, leaning over to pick up the old newspaper under a discarded cup of coffee. Robin fell silent. He felt unsettled not by the stranger himself, but by his own lack of discomfort. The man was perfectly neighborly, he wore a white mask, affixed to his head with thick black straps, blood still stained the bottoms of his nails and eyes observing him without wasted movement, and considerate having given him not only a place to sleep but a glass of water and a blanket.
“Yeah, I got real tired of everyone in town having my home number and calling it liberally.” Robin replied, mostly muttering, absently checking the phone in his pocket for missed calls and messages. “Dead.” he said, with a quick gesture to the black screen, mostly for himself.  Fatigue had racked his brain too voraciously for him to consider the implications.
“You quit just after the first body.”
“I’d’ve had to bring you in myself, I didn’t know what was doing… that but I had a feeling it was a good deal stronger than me. I was right.” he shrugged, giving a small nod to the man’s defined shoulders and thick arms before turning his attention to the window. “You can find a ‘who’ with one body, but you can only get a ‘why’ from more.”
“Well, then, good thing you found me how you did.” with an untold story of 'different circumstances' behind his words. Ennis stood up, and the red floorboards creaked. He stretched his back and shoulders like a brawler gearing up for a fight, yet instead of a fist Robin was offered an outstretched hand. “I’ll show you the garden. The grass will be light on your feet.”
The back porch looked over the cornfield, it swayed en masse with a breeze he couldn’t feel, moving to an earth rhythm humans weren’t privy to. The coniferous trees that bordered the field held themselves with a stillness unbecoming of the motion below. The stalks were bright green under the afternoon sun that beamed, hot on the soil, and cast the back of Ennis’ house into cooler shade from atop its high perch above. Robin’s senses were struck by a contradictory smell. Wildflowers, many, of different species and colors and aromas growing together from a brownish mass that lay stiff in the dirt, still clad in mucked up overalls.
“After a while, the earth uses it entirely, all that’s left are the clothes. I wash them, repurpose them…” Ennis offered, leaning down to lift a strap of the body’s clothes with his index, insects crawling onto his arms as he did so. He brushed them off as if without having noticed their presence in the first place. The acrid smell that had intertwined itself with lavender and sweet alyssums emitted from the gaping, fleshy, rotting orifice they’d rooted themselves inside. “The soil handles the blood first, rich in nutrients, hydrating too.” the man continued explaining, patting the dirt close to the body.
“You’d think you're selling fertilizer.” Rob interjected.
“That’s what it is. Nature is an autocannibal, detective, she creates life to feed off of it. She’s self-sufficient. I like that.”
“Then what's with the new catch, this one looks…” he trailed off, unsure what qualifier to use.
“His family told me he’s got a blood condition when I saw them in town. Everyone was having a wake, ‘taken too young’. He lived longer than anyone would’ve thought.”
“Is mother nature a picky eater?” Rob asked, jesting lightly as he adjusted to the scent and leaned in by Ennis to look at the life growing and thriving from the open wound.
“No, but I am. The thought of eating sickle cell bugged me, can’t explain it.” he returned as he rose to his feet with a grunt and looked over the sunny patch of grass with eyes squinting into slits as the sun shifted in the sky and the shadows stretched in kind.
“D’you cook the game you catch?” Robin enquired as he suddenly began to sober up to his situation. He checked his phone again. Dead.
“Not the people. I’m no cannibal, detective. I tend a garden. I eat what comes from it. The meat I hunt is that of fox and deer.” he replied, replacing an errant support next to one of his plants.
“Would I make a decent planter?” Robin asked, leaning on the side of the house for support as his shin bones shot waves of pain. His expression turned gravely cool, almost taunting with his calm “You know I’m no good for running.” his voice rang deep in his sternum bone.
“I couldn’t say.” Ennis replied, with a slight grunt as he stood, facing him now with arms crossed in front of his chest. “You’re wiry, fit enough for a guy your age.”
“I’m going to be your replacement for the new one,” he gestured with uncertainty for where the body would be kept “Wherever he is, once he’s just a pile of flannel?” he inquired again, no fear in his voice, but casual, as if asking for the time. The man in front of him tilted his head to the side, back an inch, sizing him up with his inscrutable eyes, squinting from the light and confusion, shifting the arms folded at his chest.
“No, detective. You’re free to stay a while, if you’d like. They won’t find you here. They haven’t found me.”  Ennis’ voice turned grim, almost cooling the air, soundless. A swallow flew from tree to tree, the leaves twisting and toiling affixed to their branches, shimmering with an unknown breeze. Birds twittered and spoke to one another, and pollen floated lazily past the garden on a warm current. Clouds drifted like tanker ships far away, from their spacious blue sea in the sky. The sun hung over the house, and light crept closer to the back porch, illuminating blades of grass, turning them a lively green. Stalks some yards away swayed and twitched as a fox unseen ran through them, chasing a hare unknown.
“When you’re all healed up, come hunting.” Ennis offered, testing the limits of the man’s collected view of a life he knew others saw as vile and evil.
“I don’t think that’s my kind of passtime, and I’m no good with a rifle.” Rob admitted, sternness to his voice.
“Our only lawman can’t handle a gun?” The other said, disbelief almost cutting through his cold tone. He shifted his on his feet.
“The townsfolk who took me in accepted my technical smarts as a forgivable substitute for sharp shooting.” he winced slightly on ‘forgivable’ and paused “Circumstances being that there were no other offers and most people still wanted a detective. Not that they take any of my work to heart, they just chalk it up to the supernatural and tell me it’s out of my hands.” he finished.
“I don’t kill with a bullet, either, not as… direct.” Ennis spoke factually. Robin sat in the grass, some feet away from the cluster of gardens, four or five of the bodies lined some distance away from the house itself.
“Why not animals? One deer, or a lot of foxes, are bigger, more room for plant growth and less work." Rob asked. It all seemed like a wasteful system. The man’s ecological motives were not his sole reasons for his methods; madness lay in the works as well, it churned the gears of his reasoning, but his firm, rugged demeanor and stern, confident appearance and a bizarre personability lent a rational sense to his words.
“I’ll take you on The Hunt. It’s some time away. You’ve gotten blood on your hands, but never like this.”
"now Lord, being cute doesn't mean you can't also be scary." Is nice and gives him a break at the mention of the casserole. Gets up from my seat "you need any help with that?"
-🐝
Lord: LIES- UH YOU MIND POURING SOME DRINKS? I HAVE A PITCHER ON THE TABLE ALREADY.
The table is set for four, in case mutt and mirla decide to join you two later. There’s a pitcher of water with some cucumber slices in the middle, and every one has a clear cup. Nice
When lord comes back, the smell of garden herbs and tomato fills the room. The casserole is a cheesy vegetable filled piece of Heaven. Clearly tomatoes are the base but you see zuchinni as well and eggplant!
100 Follower Ficlet! 🎉
To celebrate and as a thank you, I present to y'all a ficlet I've been tweaking and playing with since March- it's been yonks, but I'm at a place where I'm pretty happy with it :)
TW: Drunk behavior (lovey-dovey drunk behavior but just in case)
Magnets
"Hey Moony, I'm home!" You called out as you nudged the door open with your foot, arms laden down with heavy bags of groceries. You heard the soft thwump of a book being closed and a jingle of bells before Moon rounded the corner, letting out an amused noise at your self-inflicted predicament even as he offered up his own arms.
"Hello, my Star." He greeted you as you gratefully handed him a carton of milk and a couple of the heavier bags. "How was your day?"
"Pretty good, long though. Got a new supervisor who likes the sound of his own voice." You chuckled, leaning forward to kiss your partner, and Moon hummed in content as he nuzzled against you, before the two of you made your way to the kitchen. "How was yours?"
"I know the type. My day was quiet, but fun. I tended to the garden, read a few books, and played chess with Sunny until we got dizzy from switching."
"Glad you had a good day." You smiled softly up at him before turning to pull open the vegetable drawer. "Anything in the garden ripe enough to pick yet?"
"Mmhm. Here." You heard the rustling of the bags stop and Moon's machinery whir as he moved away, then back, and you glanced over at him, one hand on the fridge to steady yourself. Held in his hands was a small cardboard box, tilted for you to see. Inside were a good few cucumbers, tomatoes, and stalks of celery. "Freshly picked. How does pasta sound?"
"Pasta sounds amazing, thank you Moony. Oh, hey, I got you some stuff, it's in the bag on the right." He handed you the box to put in the fridge, then turned to look through the bag.
"A Guide to Making Stuffed Animals." Moon read aloud, running a hand over the cover. He flipped it open, pausing briefly to scan the table of contents, before thumbing through the pages. He turned the book to face you as you stood, and you grinned as he tapped a picture of a shooting star plush. "I'm definitely making this one first."
He set the book down on the counter and pulled out the other contents- a sewing kit, a pair of fabric scissors, a little hedgehog pincushion, and a box of fridge magnets.
"Oh, sorry- the magnets were an impulse buy." You smiled sheepishly, putting away a carton of milk. Moon made an amused noise and cracked the plastic lid open.
When you turned around to grab the bags he'd set down next to himself, he was in the process of sticking a blue plastic 'O' to his forehead, after its red twin and a green 'M'.
You couldn't help but grin at the sight. "What on earth are you doing?"
He paused in the middle of plucking an 'N' out of the box, the letter held precariously between his silicone covered fingers. "Isn't it obvious?" He asked, amused as he tilted his faceplate at you. You shook your head and joined him, digging through the box until you found a star magnet, which you placed on his chest between the two buttons. The two of you kept it up for awhile, giggling like children as you stuck magnets on him.
As you picked a yellow 'Z' from the box, you adjusted your grip and saw the grubby thumbprint you'd left on it. "Oof. Forgot I was dirty from work. I'm gonna go take a shower, Moony."
He nodded as he stuck another magnet on his forearm, which was getting rather cramped now. "Alright, Stardust. I'll get started on cooking as soon as I feel Sunny is going to be suitably annoyed by the amount of magnets on us." He let out a quiet cackle and continued to rummage through the box.
"I think the whole box should do the trick." You told him, grinning, and he nodded.
"I think so too. Enjoy your death-water."
You playfully rolled your eyes and made your way to the bathroom, adjusting the shower to the temperature you liked before stripping and climbing in.
You were rinsing out the shampoo, eyes closed as you dunked your head into the pleasantly hot water, when you heard a crash. Startled, you quickly rinsed the rest off and turned off the water.
"Moony? You okay?" You were certain you'd locked the front door- you'd purposefully made yourself remember so it'd be one less thing to worry about. You strained your ears to hear better, heart thudding in your chest, but all you heard was a giggle. "...Moon?"
You hurried out of the shower and wrapped a towel around yourself, glad the curtains were shut so you could just dash over to him and not worry about being gawked at by nosy passerbys.
Careful not to slip, you rushed into the kitchen, and saw Moon slumped against the counters, giggling to himself. Most of the magnets were still stuck on him, but a couple laid on the floor next to him, including the N from his forehead.
"Moon, what happened? Are you alright?" You dried your hand on the towel before reaching out to cup his face, concerned. His head lolled up to look at you, and he giggled again.
"Mmhmm." He managed out, sounding positively mirthful. "Took a bi' of a-" He broke into giggling again, before collecting himself. "Bi' of a fall. I'm okay. Jus… um." He tapped the side of his faceplate, appearing to concentrate. His finger slowed, and his attention fell to the N on the floor. "That fell off. My head says 'Moo'." And then he broke down into helpless giggles once more, sliding down the cabinets in his helpless amusement.
"Oh, my god." You began incredulously, trying to hold back your own laughter. "My love, you're drunk."
"Am not. I'm a robot, can't get drunk. Silly Starlight." He waggled his finger in your face, distracting you from figuring out what the hell to do.
"Love, you're hammered." You snorted, smiling as you picked up one of the letters next to him. Wait- oh. Oh. Oops. "The magnets. They're messing with your hard drive." You raised your hand to his forehead. "Let's get these off of you."
"No!" He protested, pushing himself up against the cupboards, and you winced at the squeal of metal on wood. "I'm art."
"Moon-"
"And I'm faster than youuu." He sprang to his feet before you could stop him, and almost immediately toppled to the ground again, only barely catching himself on the counter top. He grunted and heaved himself off, swaying dangerously. You ran up to stabilize him, grabbing the loop on his back with the hand you weren't using to hold up your towel. Damn, how were you supposed to dry yourself off and take care of your very drunk partner?
"I'll let you take the magnets off if you go to bed." He giggled, spinning his head around to face you. He tilted his faceplate to the side in a question. "Can we cuddle? I like cuddling with you."
You huffed, smiling as he batted his eyelids at you playfully. "Yeah. Sure, we can cuddle." It was only eight, but cuddles did sound nice. And you weren't terribly hungry anyway. "But you're gonna let me take the magnets off, mister."
"Okaaay. Which way's bed…" He tapped his fingers against his faceplate, the sound off-beat. You released the loop, taking his hand in yours and leading him to the bedroom.
"Sit down, I'll be right back. Just gotta dry myself off and get dressed." You informed him. He grumbled something and tried to get back up off the bed, but you firmly took his shoulder and sat him back down.
"Wanna cuddle." He protested.
"I promise we'll cuddle. But if we cuddle now, you're gonna short circuit, I haven't dried off properly." You insisted. He gazed up at you for a second or two, then stuck out his pinky with a suppressed giggle.
"Promise?"
You smiled at him, then gave him your pinky. "I promise."
He nodded, then swung his legs up onto the bed with a sigh. You exited the bedroom after grabbing a pair of pajamas, and took your time to dry yourself off- you were worried enough about his hard drive, you didn't want to add moisture damage on top of that.
When you reentered, warm and dry, Moon sat back up on the bed, bouncing slightly. He stood up as you approached, and before you could react, picked you up and fell back to the bed, arms wrapped around you and holding you close on top of him.
"Wait, Moon- your charger- the magnets." You squirmed in his grasp, but he just hummed and nuzzled his faceplate against your head.
"You pinky-promised. Cuddle time." He drew the blanket over you both, smoothing it down with a wobbly hand.
"Your hard drive could get damaged. If you let me take the magnets off, we can cuddle all day tomorrow, or until you let Sunny take over. It's my day off tomorrow, remember?" You offered. His hand paused in its jerky stroke down your upper back.
"Hmm... Okay." He unwrapped his arms from around you, and you set to work picking the magnets off and tossing them blindly to the side. He watched as you worked, humming what might have been a lullaby if it wasn't interspersed with laughter.
"What're you laughing about?" You asked with some amusement, removing the last letter from his face.
"You're my knight in cloth pajamas." He  giggled. Then he paused, and cupped your face in his hands, thumb softly dusting along your cheekbone. "Thank you for saving my hard drive. I love you so much, I don't want to ever forget you." And with those last soft, slightly slurred words, he pulled you down back onto his chest, holding you close. If he noticed the way your face heated up against his chest, he didn't say anything, instead continuing to mumble out the lullaby, music box chiming in off-key.
You waited until his sleep mode kicked in, giggly indecipherable murmurs turning to quiet artificial snores, before allowing yourself to fall asleep, cuddled up with your partner.
~~~~~
When you woke the next morning, Moon was still asleep, face buried into your shoulder, and you couldn't help but smile softly, leaning down to press a sleepy kiss to the rim of his faceplate.
You gave yourself a few minutes to properly wake up, mind pleasantly empty for once, simply enjoying the promised, warm cuddles. But alas, your stomach prompted you to get up and about with a long growl, and you sighed before beginning to carefully extract yourself from Moon's hold.
"Nooo..." Moon mumbled, tightening his hold on you, and you turned to peer at him.
"Morning, my Moonlight. Still a little tipsy?" You teased, giving up for the moment and turning around so your front and forehead were pressed to his.
Moon's eyelids squeezed shut, then he opened them a crack, blue slivers of dimly glowing light escaping through the allowed space. "...The magnets."
"Yeah. They made you drunk." You kissed him gently as he shut his eyes again with a groan. "You're a very sweet drunk, if it's any consolation. If a bit mischievous. How are you feeling?"
"Mm. Kind of like someone turned my visual and auditory sensory input up to eleven. And my memories from after the magnets are corrupted, inaccessible." He grumbled, then sighed and wriggled in closer. "...This is nice though."
You weren't entirely sure how a robot hangover worked, but regardless you wanted to make sure he was okay, and a lazy day in suited you just fine. "Well, I did promise we'd cuddle all day today."
"I would love that." He murmured, and you nodded as you nuzzled carefully against his faceplate, warmth filling you when a rumbling purr started up in his chest and he pulled you in closer.
The two of you spent the rest of the day in the quiet, cozy dark of the blanket nest, with you only taking breaks to eat, drink, stretch, and use the bathroom. Moon recovered, albeit slowly, and only left to do one thing- with your help, he took the "accursed" magnets and set them firmly down in the furthest reaches of the attic, never to be used again, before picking you up and carrying you back to bed for more of the promised cuddles.

My wife and I had a little bet about the biodiversity of our garden the other day. I thought there were at least 40-50 different kind of plants growing there. My wife laughed at me and thought we'd be closer to 30.
For context, we grow a lot of vegetables and berries during the summer but now the chilies and cucumbers and tomatoes aren't planted yet because the Dutch weather is a fickle bitch and goes from freezing to 16°C in the span of a week.
Today, after some I could smack her in the face with some truth because even in late winter our garden has a whopping 60 different varieties of plant, flower or other fauna.
The rosemary and thyme have survived the winter with flying colors, and the daffodils, crocus and tulips are starting to come up. Our wisteria needed a very thorough pruning but I'm eagerly awaiting its bloom now that it had a haircut.
Against all hope, the blueberry and gooseberry bushes that I had given up on last year are budding and all signs point to it joining the blackberry, raspberry and strawberry once summer rolls around. In these expensive times, nothing beats homegrown fruits and veggies.

National Homemade Soup Day
When the cold winter winds are blowing and snow is rapidly falling, nothing takes the chill away like a bowl of homemade soup! It might seem that making a pot of simmering heaven would require a person to be highly skilled in the kitchen and have a great deal of extra time. But this couldn’t be farther from the truth!
If making homemade soup has always seemed like an intimidating task, just know that it doesn’t have to be. Plus, it’s a great way to feed a large group of people without a lot of fuss. With some clever short cuts and easy, beginner-friendly recipes (happily found all over the internet), it’s entirely feasible to impress family and friends alike with a wonderful creation to celebrate National Homemade Soup Day!
History of National Homemade Soup Day
Soup has been warming the stomachs of the masses for nearly 9000 years, so it’s about time there was a day devoted to it!
One of the smartest choices of the creators of National Homemade Soup Day is that they put it right smack-dab in the middle of winter (at least for people in many places). Since February can be one of the coldest and darkest months of the year, it’s the perfect time to try a hand at creating the perfect homemade soup.
But for people who live in a place where the day doesn’t fall in winter–don’t despair! Homemade cold soups are a tasty option for those celebrating in a warmer climate. Whether with a Gazpacho (cold tomato soup) or cucumber soup, this day can be enjoyed–cold or hot–in any part of the world!
How to Celebrate National Homemade Soup Day
While this day does not discriminate between flavors of soup, it does offer an occasion to celebrate. So it’s time to do more than just open that can of boring, bland, soup! This is a day that is all about celebrating a fresh, healthy pot of homemade soup!
Consider a few different ways to make National Homemade Soup Day a little more special:
Try a New Recipe
Celebrating soup sounds simple – just pour a bowl and start eating, right? Well, that is part of it but not all of it. If you are new to creating culinary masterpieces you can use this day as a motivation to try something different. Make some chicken soup, or tomato, or maybe something more adventurous. That is what today is all about, so experiment and try something new.
Invite Friends and Family to Join In
Already a kitchen wizard? Use this special day to gather up some friends and have a tasting of several different homemade soups.
Or have each person bring one ingredient that can be added into the pot! While waiting for the soup to simmer, read out loud a version of the favorite children’s book, Stone Soup.
Better yet have a cook off! Each friend shows up with their own homemade masterpiece and have a lively night of fun to see whose soup is crowned the winner. The great news is that, really, everyone wins because they get to enjoy all of the deliciousness and comfort that homemade soup has to offer.
Recreate a Copycat Recipe
Sometimes a favorite dish at a restaurant turns out even better when making it at home! Many recipes for famous soups from restaurant chains are now available online to be recreated in a person’s own.
Try making these yummy copycat soup recipes that can be easily found online:
Zuppa Toscana by Olive Garden. Famous for its pairing with soft breadsticks, this twist on an Italian favorite is packed with yummy goodness. A chicken stock base with sausage, kale, and red pepper flakes provide a zesty array of flavors.
Loaded Baked Potato Soup by O’Charley’s. Packed with flavor (and also quite a few carbs!) this soup is sure to please with its cheesy potato base and bacon garnish. Like most soups, this one is tasty when served with buttery bread rolls.
Cullen Skink from Ubiquitous Chip. This soup is named after Cullen, a small fishing town in the northeast of Scotland. One of Glasgow’s favorite restaurants, Ubiquitous Chip, features this comforting treat made from smoked haddock, potato, onion, and spices.
Read a Chicken Soup for the Soul Book
Since homemade soup takes a little bit of time to simmer on the stove, it’s great to have something to do while waiting. So what could be better than reading some short stories from the famous Chicken Soup for the Soul anthologies?!
The books were compiled by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen, but the stories themselves were written by people all over the world. Some authors are famous while others are simply average people with extraordinary or entertaining stories to share that bring comfort to the soul.

February 1st, Bayamo to Baracoa
Breakfast at 7:00, while presentation and service was very nice, fruit was papaya only, juice, watered down papaya and no butter for the small pieces of bread, only mayoand eggs. Shared my P.B. 😉
Hopped into a horse drawn carriage and were given a 45 minute tour of the city. It was really nice. Saw the 1st convent in Cuba, and the homes of the first two presidents of Cuba, the first being Carlos de Cespedes. The first sanctioned outdoor burial ground of the leaders of the revolution of 1868. Previously all burials were in churches. We travelled along a road where all trees had been destroyed by the last big hurricane, all the trunks have been carved into animals and they line both sides of the street. Last a monument to all of those that have died in the revolutions.
Left the beautiful state owned hotel, to get on the road. They were not able to supply us with the box lunch of ham sandwiches as they have a shortage of bread. Plan on stopping at roadside vendors to get fruit etc for lunch.
In the eastern part of the island still lots of old cars but mostly European or Russian models as opposed to North American. We did see what appeared to be a Cuban military base and they seemed to be initiating some new recruits.
Stopped at a roadside stand a bought a large bunch of bananas for 100 pesos and a string of clementines for 200 pesos. Later again, we stopped in a small town and purchase small cheese 8” pizzas/tacos for 50 pesos each.
As we drove along, country fences are now made of different kind of cacti planted so close together that animals can not pass through. Brilliant idea.
In the last few days I have tried to summarize what I think I heard from our CEO and signage I’ve seen, however, due to no internet I have not been able to fact check, so I hope I am recording the proper facts.
So, during our ride today, we talked about the revolution again where Cuba revolted against Spain. The first revolution lasted 10 years from 1868 to 1878 and was not successful. Again they attempted in 1895 led by Matta, by 1998 they were actually seeking help from the Americans. The Americans came to their aid and there was a big naval battle that ended the revolution and occupation of Spain. Cuban thought they had gained their independence but the Platt clause from the US Government, was that if Cuba wanted to be an independent country, they had to allow a army base and that the US could intervene if Cuban leadership became questionable. Thus the Guatamanno Bay base.
Takes a long time to get anywhere as you share the road with bicycles, horses and carts, rickshaws, motor bikes and cars and trucks. Flagged down by a police officer today, and when we stopped he was trying arrange a ride for his grown nephew on our bus. Answer was no.
We stop for our lunch at 2:30 p.m. at a beach on the Caribbean Sea where we had our pizza, pineapple, tomatoes and bananas. No sand on these beaches just polished rock and pieces of washed up coral. Proceeded to travel on a winding road through the mountains to Baracoa, for several hours. All S curves.
Arrive at our Casa around 5:30 p.m., Casa Elvira. Larry and I are on the 3rd floor and have an outdoor patio area on the roof. It is a  very interesting home and we are going to enjoy our few days here. The place is owned by Elvira and Alfredo. We joined our group for a short walk around the city, but it was dark already, so we headed to our dinner place which was a private house dinner. The chef was amazing. We started with bread and papaya juice and cream of pumpkin soup, then tomatoes, cucumber, yams, plantain and coconut milk mixed and green beans. A curry coconut sauce was provided with the vegetables. Main course was sword fish, chicken deep fried jams and another root vegetable. Dessert was sliced papaya and marinated glazed orange peel with cinnamon served with espresso coffee. Could hardly walk and all for 1440 pesos each. Walked back to the Casa, showered and to bed. Big day tomorrow.

Lunch for a six year old?
You'd better believe it. We have our youngest grandson staying with us. He has come for a few weeks from his home in New York with his father, Son No. 4. From when he was a baby and started eating solid food he was encouraged to try new things, without any pressure, and just to join in with what was put on the table.
The little boy has never had a diet of chicken nuggets or fish fingers. His mother bakes bread and his father has been cooking adventurous meals twice a day - all through Covid and lockdown, and now continues to serve up unusual, deeply flavourful dishes that he has researched online and spent many happy hours cooking.
So when it came for me to put a quick meal on the table, with little in the fridge, I resorted to some fine French cheeses, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, crackers, and salad.
Tumblr media
Here are the items in detail:  Le Rustique finest Camembert from France (brought as a gift by Son No. 4), oozing out on to the plate.  (Incidentally my father used to love Camembert, but I could never stand the smell, so made a great fuss when he put it on the table).
The other cheese is Brie, a bit less ripe, so it can be sliced and served with the crackers: high bake water biscuits and fine milled oat cakes. The green olives are stuffed with anchovies. On the plates are sticks of celery and carrot, florets of raw cauliflower, sun dried tomatoes, and a salad of lettuce hearts, cucumber, spring onion and cherry tomatoes.
This little boy is a joy to cook for. There are of course things he is less fond of, but with his parents' encouragement without pressure, he is always excited by food.

The weather didn’t brighten up, but it stayed dry long enough for me to get out and do my planting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Nasturtium seed packet got a bit damp and decided it wasn’t going to wait around to be planted and started to grow without any help. They are now cosied up in the dirt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tomato’s have all been repotted, joined by two I’ve been gifted, they’re all in the greenhouse now. I’m hoping they start to grow nicely soon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And still in the house until it warms up a little bit more, a million Trinidad Scorpions, Scotch Bonnets, and another two I’ve been gifted for Cucumber and Courgette. Sweet Peppers are also here but just out of sight to the left of the second photo.

World Tour of Vegan Dinner Ideas
Thank you so much for checking this video out, and welcome to Vegan Delights: Embarking on a Global Culinary Voyage for Dinner Ideas!
Today, we invite you to join us on a culinary journey, exploring the world of vegan dinner ideas. Get ready to tantalize your taste buds with flavors from every corner of the globe.
Our first stop is Asia, where we discover the art of vegan sushi. Delicate rice rolls filled with vibrant vegetables and drizzled with zesty sauces will transport you to the bustling streets of Tokyo.
To create your own vegan sushi at home, start by preparing sushi rice according to package instructions. Once cooled, mix in rice vinegar and white wine vinegar.
Lay out a nori sheet on a bamboo mat and spread the rice evenly, leaving space at one end. Place thin strips of cucumber, carrot, avocado, and sautéed tofu marinated in a blend of soy sauce, maple syrup, and ginger onto the rice.
Roll tightly using the mat, slice into pieces, and serve with a side of soy sauce for dipping.
Next, we travel to the heart of Mexico, where we uncover the secrets of vegan tacos. Crispy tortillas filled with savory plant-based proteins, fresh avocado, and a spicy salsa will ignite your senses and transport you to the vibrant streets of Mexico City.
For a hearty filling, consider using a combination of black beans and walnut vegan taco meat. Top with homemade pico de gallo, shredded lettuce, and a drizzle of tahini sauce.
Assemble your tacos by warming corn tortillas, then layering them with the protein mixture, salsa, lettuce, and avocado. Finish with a generous drizzle of tahini sauce for a creamy touch.
Continuing our journey, we arrive in the Mediterranean, where we indulge in the wonders of vegan moussaka. Layers of tender eggplant, hearty lentils, and aromatic spices create a delectable dish that will transport you to the sun-soaked shores of Greece.
Begin by roasting slices of eggplant and zucchini until golden. Prepare a tomato sauce with red lentils and a hint of cinnamon for richness. Layer the vegetables and sauce in a baking dish, and top with a creamy béchamel made from plant-based milk and flour.
Bake until bubbly and golden, and let it rest before serving to allow the layers to set.

What does the nopal fruit taste like?
Nopales are turning out to be more normal all over the planet and are utilized in North America as an "bold" fixing in new kinds of food.
