The Prince de Joinville: namesake of the Joinville neckwear.

Period: 1844–1855. A necktie worn as a broad, wide-spreading bow with square, fringed ends. The name was revived in the 1890s for an American scarf tie filling the space above the waistcoat opening. (Valerie Cumming, The Dictionary of Fashion History)

Handbook of English Costume in the 19th Century describes it (in its original 1840s form) as having "square fringed or laced ends. The Joinville came into fashion in 1844 following the Prince de Joinville's visit to Windsor the previous autumn."

I have a book on order about historical men's neckwear (Collars, Stocks and Cravats by Doreice Colle), and maybe it will have some examples of the Joinville necktie. It's difficult to find 1840s imagery when the name is also used for a late 19th century tie of a different design.
