My thoughts on JJBA OVER HEAVEN

So first of all -

it seems my JJBA binge is not over yet, I am still on the desert island and instead of their being water sources large enough to get waterboarded in like last time, I am instead finding small refreshing puddles.

This is copy pasted from my twitter so pardon if its formatted weirdly

I read the novel and- (spoilers under cut)

although it might be dubiously canon, I like it a lot that I think it should be considered so, and in my mind overrides any inconsistencies that the anime/manga may bring up. The timeline seems fucked either way you look at it, fittingly for this story I guess

I liked how it showed the evolution of his idea of ‘heaven’ and how it slowly became what Pucci defined it as. I like how it gives depth without straying from Dio’s insane villainy. and the mommy issues were certainly something as well It actually made me appreciate part 1

I have realised this while I was still watching the anime, but the novel confirms it; all the villains either represent a part of Dio, the big bad

Kars - Dio’s desire to constantly transcend his current state, humanity and whatnot, keep moving up the power scale

Kira - Dio’s idea that all humans live for ‘peace of mind’, as he puts it for himself- ‘preparedness’, knowing that the future will be fine

Diavolo - Dio’s resolve to move only forward, only towards the future

I do love how for the two Stand users, their Stands complement their motives, Kira creating time loops to ensure nothing bad happens to him, and Diavolo ‘skipping time’ to move into and foresee the future. Kira is more ‘stuck in the past’ and Diavolo is heading for the future

Dio is in the present, he merely stops time for a few seconds. It sets up the time manipulation premise in the simplest way and also gives him the further mindfuckery he needs to arrive at his conclusion

And then Pucci, the final villain, is Dio’s resolve to get to ‘heaven’, the culmination of the mindfuckery- their conclusion of it being that the definition of ‘heaven’ is obtaining peace by knowing all of the future and all of fate, and living it out in preparedness.

Their Stands are also opposite of one another, Dio stops time for a brief moment and Pucci accelerates it for all of eternity. Pucci is the kind of fucking guy to spoil the entire movie before watching it

I do love how they define fate as ‘gravity between people', and connect that to the theory of relativity (i’m always a sucker for this kind of shit) combining scientific theory with ideas of fate through a religious character is also just a cherry on top, I love it

THAT and how his Stand Whitesnake, whose powers are to extract ‘souls’ (or so to speak), is covered in the abbreviation of DNA compounds. Also fun fact whitesnake’s voice is based off of patrick star from spongebob

Overall, it was interesting to read how Dio became obsessed with the concept of fate, Ironically, were JJBA to be written with more foresight (preparedness even), then maybe Dio’s thoughts could’ve been more implemented into the story. Don’t get me wrong, he should still be his insane-cartoonishly-evil self at the same time, I love him for that. However, this novel was not written by the OG author, so who knows how canon it even is.

Another thing of note: Dio and Pucci seem to arrive at their idea of ‘heaven’ independently (you could argue Dio kind of began it by suggesting the idea of ‘gravity’ to him), but it was Pucci’s circumstances that ultimately led to it. Dio, at least for a few pages, believes that what one is born into decides everything. And they were born into vastly different situations. Dio talks a lot about his hate of nobles and ‘inheritors’ and hated both his biological and adoptive family.

Pucci is from an influential wealthy family and loved them so. Dio’s sibling was a miscarriage and Pucci’s presumed-dead-twin was actually alive. But both lived circumstances that arrived to a shared idea of ‘heaven’. Dio knows at least the deaths in Pucci’s life, I wonder if he knows his background and if knowing it would challenge or confirm his idea of fate.

I can’t help but wonder how Pucci felt reading the diary through Jotaro’s memories. Also wonder if Pucci saw how Dio died through none other than Jotaro’s memories as well.

Also i don’t know why, this is probably not what is implied cuz it wouldn’t fit characterwise(unless?) but……… did Pucci take Dio’s memory of showing him The World????? Why is it written this way and if so then adhsagdah??

Anyways if you ask me if i’m team ‘ora-ora’ or team ‘muda-muda’ its the latter for me baby

Winter 2024 Anime Review

Solo Leveling - 24 Episodes

This has been and will be my most anticipated series. We've only scratched the surface of the story and people are going nuts. I've been reading the light novel translations for a while now and I'm not even a little ready for when certain things are animated.

Easily one of the best anime adaptations out there. More to look forward to.

Sidenote - A1 is killing the animations considering it's one of their bigger ones in a while.

Also - they did a really solid job with the sound design, a lot of the timing made certain scenes feel just that much more intense.

9/10 - Amazing

Frieren - 28 episodes

Such a unique watching experience.

I think so many shows these days are fast paced, and action oriented, especially within the fantasy genre. This is such a relaxing and enjoyable watch.

The story is moving and the animations are warm and fuzzy.

Not much I'd change about the series.

10/10 - Masterpiece

The Apothecary Diaries - 24 Episodes

The second half of this series kept up with the flow of the first half really well. I feel like that shouldn't be a feat but it really is these days.

I genuinely love watching the subtleties of the romance in this series and the medical mystery cases are just as fun to watch.

The story has so many little bits and pieces working throughout the show and the last episode had me wrecked for reasons I never saw coming.

Just overall a big fan of this series.

9/10 - Amazing

Delicious in Dungeon - 12/24 Episodes

This series has no right to be this much fun.

The animations match the energy of the show so well and I think it's one of the best "entertainment" series of the season.

I was worried it would start to repeat itself but found that the characters become the highlight of the series and I looked forward to every episode.

(This is the series this season that I'm high-key obsessed with.)

Shangri-La Frontier - 25 Episodes

One of the most fun looking MMORPG animes I've seen. I remember reading the teaser manga a while ago and was stoked to see it animated. Just a genuinely well done gamer oriented series.

They do such a good job at showing exactly the kinds of small things gamers pay attention to and some of the combat learning is stellar.

Not to mention the sound track honestly did not need to go as hard as it did?!

Really hoping they continue on with this for another season.

8/10 - Very Good

Bucchigiri?! - 12 Episodes

I haven't seen any coverage for this show for some reason. The story doesn't feel anything special tbh, it's not something I expected MAPPA to be animating either. I personally had fun with it, the character design was satisfying - gives a bit of Jojo's and SK8 vibes.

You can tell the story's going somewhere but the pacing feels a bit slow. Either way I had fun with this one and might keep up with future seasons.

(Opening and ending are both bangers)

Mashle - Season 2 - 12 Episodes

I decided to watch this once all the episodes had aired. I found that it's not one you can be in the mood to watch all the time, but when you are it's just as hilarious as the first season.

I've enjoyed the pacing of the story and I'm looking forward to future seasons.

Unwanted Undead - 12 Episodes

Another series I read the manga for when it premiered. There's something about this series that gets me hooked. While the animations aren't anything of note, I find the story is oddly unique and I ended up bingeing all the episodes in one go. Definitely one I'm curious to see where it goes.

Mr. Villain's Day Off - 12 Episodes

This is purely for my own personal interest in attractive moody villains with alter ego's. It's a lot of fun to watch and it's just so wholesome.

Is one piece worth watching? A friend recommended to me, he said that if i liked jojo i will like this too and i love jojo. But idk if i should start because... lots of episodes, big commintment

short answer: YES

long answer (spoiler free!):

One piece is a commitment. It's lengthy with over 1000 episodes and chapters. With 15 films and spin off light novels/comics. It's a lot. And yet, it's not nearly as intimidating as one may believe.

I'll be candid, I love Jojo as well, but it's not a perfect series. It's flawed with strange pacing, plot holes, and characters that are underdeveloped. I won't say that One Piece is perfect. It has it's fair share of pacing issues and the female character designs are.... a choice. But it has a more well thought out world than Jojo!

If you love adventure tales, then One piece is for you! There is no better story when it comes to celebrating adventure. The main characters are pirates setting out at sea. Each island they land is a unique place with it's own design, quirks, and set of characters. From a half ice/half fire island to a heavenly island in the sky to entire kingdom all based around various sweets. The world of One Piece is alive. Events are happening all around the world. Some effect the main characters. Some are just things that are happening because the world goes on whether Luffy is there or not.

If you love great characters, then One Piece is for you! As I mentioned, one of the things that bums me out about Jojo is that many characters are so underutilized. One Piece has thousands of characters and if you ask any fan who their favorites are, they will list at least one character who only shows up in eight chapters. And whoever they listed probably has a tragic backstory and an amazing design! The character writing is strong! And only gets better as the series progresses. Monkey D. Luffy is that guy. He's the main character for a reason. It's hard not to love a silly dude with gray morals that kicks ass.

If you love silly shit, then One Piece is for you. One Piece is a goofy ass series. There are fart jokes, ball jokes, boob jokes. Every single character finds themselves in at least one slapstick routine. Characters have silly laughs and some of the strangest personality quirks. (There is a man dressed as a baby and let me tell you he's a scene stealer!) It's a fucking silly show! I mean, come on, the main character is a rubber man and his best friend uses a sword with his mouth.

BUT

If you love tragedy, then One Piece is for you. It may be hard to believe the silly brightly colored pirate anime is sad, but it has some of the most heartbreaking moments I've ever seen/read. There is one backstory in particular that I can't even re-read without crying all over again. Even without the deeply tragic moments, the world the story takes place in is surprisingly bleak. It's not uncommon to come across side character who are starving and living in poverty. There are slaves and class disparity. It builds a deeply sad world and yet, the message of the story is hope. If you love in-depth lore, great soundtracks, amazing voice acting, found family, dilfs, milfs, talking animals, mermaids, cyborgs, samurai, shonen battle anime, strangely endearing villains, then you should watch One Piece.

It may be long, but it's worth the journey.

I like it but I just think it's ok. The interesting characters to me are either killed off, not utilized as much, or they just make me think of their character inspirations from Bleach. Like I like Gojo alright but every time I see him I just think "Man, I want to reread all my favorite Urahara moments from Bleach". Or I see Aoi and I'm like "Man, I really want to watch compilations of Kenpachi's best moments in Bleach." And while I appreciate Gege trying to incorporate his love for metaphysics into his series and think it's cool in theory, his constant exposition makes me wish he just turned this into a light novel. And I don't hate exposition, and there are lots of good series and good authors who use it well! Two of my favorite series are Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji, and they use exposition all the time. But I find Araki and FKMT's way of writing exposition much easier to understand even when discussing complex concepts, and I find the way they incorporate it into their art more tolerable. JJK's exposition is in a series I already don't feel a real pull towards, and it really kneecaps the interest I have in the story/characters. Which is already not much to me personally.

Also I'm a petty bitch and the interest I have in watching something is of inverse proportion to how many people gas it up to me. So when I suddenly saw so many people recommending JJK, praising it for its woman characters being well-written (that...are marginally better than the average male mangaka which is the lowest bar possible. I will give props to Maki though, she's cool), etc. I just put off watching or reading it out of spite lol. The character designs are cool though and some of the characters are hot (even if I find nothing attractive about the blonde misogynist guy in Maki's family and legit do not understand the appeal) but it just isn't my cup of tea. I'll still write for it though since it does have quite a few characters that are good yandere/dark fic fodder

I've been writing and drawing since I was little. And before I could write, I would tell my mother my story and she'd write it down for me. I've always had a crazy imagination. When I was a tween, I got into anime and manga, so I learned how to draw in that art style.

I am 25, queer-romantic asexual, and feminine-presenting nonbinary. I identify as both a girl and a demi-boy. You can refer to me as she/her, he/him, or they/them. I don't mind. I'm also white and have ADHD, dyspraxia, anxiety, and depression that prevents me from getting a "real" job.

I'm pretty shy and anxious, but once you get to know me, I may say some weird stuff and dad jokes. I'm a big nerd and simp as well.

I am also a Vtuber, but made this alt identity since I didn't think my work would fit that persona.

History: Manic Depression is the Stand of Massimo Volpe, the antagonist of the 2011 light novel Purple Haze Feedback. Manic Depression's ability made Massimo a vital member of Passione before Giorno's takeover.

History of creation: Manic Depression was created by Kouhei Kadona for Purple Haze Feedback, written for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 25th anniversary event, VS JOJO. The Stand is first mentioned in Chapter 1: Vitti 'na Crozza and first physically appears in Chapter 6: Fantasia Siciliana.

Ability: Manic Depression can increase the biological functions of organisms pierced by the thorns on Manic Depression's body. This includes increasing the speed of someone's heart until it bursts, forcing irregular stomach digestion, and increasing a person's physical capabilities. It has the secondary ability to turn salt into a highly addictive drug. This drug only exists for two weeks before returning to salt.

Trivia: Massimo is the brother of Tonio from Part 4.
