This has to be one of the coolest pieces of anime trivia I've ever come across, all thanks to a video linked by a very cool friendo. I always think it's a cool find when an anime uses a known Western hit song for an opening or ending. Most of y'all are probably thinking Jojo's making it a trend or maybe the iconic ED for Evangelion. Also love Paradise Kiss & Franz Ferdinand. But Maison Ikkoku had one too, sadly just for a single episode because apparently it was not very popular at the time. But it fits so well for Episode 24, one where we really get into Kyoko holding on to her late husband even when her parents pressure her to move on.

"Alone Again, Naturally" was an oddball smash hit in the early 70s by Irish singer Gilbert O'Sullivan. #1 on the charts in multiple countries and add a few more if you deign to count the utterly abysmal performance of #2. It's also had an interesting history beyond that, numerous famous covers and most infamously the Biz Markie sample that spurred a judge to really drop the hammer on early hip-hop's use of the technique.

So seeing it crop up with another iconic series like Maison Ikkoku? So, so cool honestly. I think it fits the vibe of the series very well, the way everyone in the Maison is trying to pick up the pieces or just get by after loss and finding themselves in rough situations. The linked video above made a great point about how the series fits so well into the time period of 80s Japan and how so many felt left behind by a rapidly changing county.

Top 5 Great Villains from Anime I Will Never See

So, I’m going to cut right to the chase with this list: I am preparing a countdown of my Top 15 Favorite Anime/Manga Villains. I’m not sure when this list will be done - there’s a few shows I want to check out or finish before I make a proper judgment call - but something I felt I should do was prepare you guys not for the characters that WILL be present, but for the characters that WON’T be.

You see, while I enjoy a lot of anime programs, I tend to be rather selective. There are some very, VERY popular series that a lot of people love, but which I know very little about. The chances are high that, in these same cases, I may never know that much about them. Sometimes it’s because I’m just not “into” them, sometimes it’s because the show is GIGANTIC and I frankly don’t have the time on my hands to sit down and plough through close-to-or-more-than 100 episodes, and very often it’s a mixture of both. In some of these cases, the villains of the shows are ones I’m at least partially familiar with, and what I know about them definitely seems fun…but because I don’t have much CONTEXT for them, as I’m not a fan of the shows they appear in, I don’t think it would be wise or fair to include them in my upcoming Top 15. So, to make sure you all know what to brace yourselves for, I’m going to talk about five anime programs - and interesting, fine villains from them - that I know a ton of people love, but I just don’t have a whole lot to say about. Keep in mind, none of these villains are bad villains; from what I’ve seen of them, they seem quite marvelous, in fact! But I just don’t know a lot about them, and I probably never will. So, with all that established…here are My Top 5 Great Villains From Anime I Will Never See.

5. Jackal, from Fairy Tail.

I have placed Jackal at the bottom of the list for two reasons. One is that he is, legitimately, the villain among these five that I care the least about. The other is that, perhaps ironically, his show is the one of these five I’m most likely to see someday. (MOST LIKELY. I can’t make any promises.) “Fairy Tail” is a fantasy/adventure series that I’ve known about for years, but most of what I know of it comes from fan-based works. I’ve only seen a handful of scattered full episodes, and even more scattered, random clips; not enough to really give me a proper context of the show. But what I’ve seen I’ve enjoyed (I especially like the main character, Natsu), and out of all the villains I’ve come across in looking things up, Jackal seems to be the most “my type.” He’s a very Joker-esque villain, completely unhinged and loving every second of his own wicked insanity; equal parts entertaining and deliciously vicious. If I ever watch “Fairy Tail” (which again, I can’t promise), he’s the antagonist I am most curious to learn more about.

4. Sir Crocodile, from One Piece.

In contrast to Jackal and Fairy Tail, Crocodile is one of the villains I am MOST interested in, but ironically, his show is probably one of the ones here I’m LEAST likely to ever take a look at. I’ve see bits and pieces of One Piece, and to be honest, it’s just not for me: the show is WAY too crazy for me, so to speak, and as one of the longest-running anime in history, the chances of me sitting down to barrel through that absolute weirdness is highly remote. But with that said, I’ve always been interested in one of the series’ most popular antagonists, Sir Crocodile. First of all, he’s inspired by Captain Hook; that will always get me interested. Second of all, he just seems like a really fun nasty customer: a pirate with the veneer of a cold-blooded, confident, brutish-but-cunning mafioso whose laid-back, unpleasant exterior belies a calculating and devious mind, only outmatched by his power and strength. In short, he’s a bad@$$. Everything I’ve seen of Crocodile makes him interesting to me…but again, One Piece just isn’t for me, so the likelihood of me ever learning too much more about him is unlikely.

3. Dio Brando, from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. Any villain who becomes a meme and has an Abridged incarnation deliberately meant to sound like Tim Curry definitely gets my attention. XD I’ve known about Dio for a long time - a college friend of mine was bloody OBSESSED with the character, and the show - and from what I can tell, I can easily stand by saying he’s one of the most powerful, despicable, and delightfully depraved villains in any anime franchise. He is the consummate nemesis, a narcissistic moster who exists seemingly for the sole purpose of making the hero’s life thoroughly miserable. However, JJBA suffers from the exact same issue as One Piece: it’s long and it’s a little too…well…bizarre, as the title suggests, for me. It’s a show with a lot of creativity, and I can understand why both Dio and the series as a whole are so popular, but I have no real interest in slugging through the show. Not even for Dio’s sake.

2. Orochimaru, from Naruto.

He’s voiced by Steven Blum in the dub, and again, I have a friend who is OBSESSED with the guy, and admittedly for good reason. These are points enough to get Orochimaru some major credit. And he’s a wonderful villain: creepy and yet delightfully entertaining, cruel and yet incredibly fascinating, and again, have I mentioned Steve Blum does his voice in the dub? Anyone who makes that casting choice has to have done something right. Unfortunately, not only is Naruto long, but more importantly…I’ve firmly decided it’s just not my thing. This is one of two shows on this list I’ve physically TRIED to get into; like, I legitimately WANTED to love this show, and I tried to find some way for me to get into it…but it’s just never worked for me, no matter what approach I attempt. It doesn’t matter if it is dubbed or subbed, or if I watch the filler-ejecting fan series, or if I try the stage shows (which, to be fair, are impressive in their stagecraft), or whatever: Naruto just isn’t for me. I just don’t care enough about this world or these characters. Orochimaru, however, is a very interesting and fun villain, and I have legitimately enjoyed everything I’ve seen him in; he’s one of the villains who I would have included in my upcoming Top 15 if I hadn’t felt it was grossly unfair. That should tell you a lot. So, who can top Orochimaru? Actually, not just one person, but several. Yeah, we’re ending this list on a tie…and it’s the mother of all ties. The top spot goes to…

1. MULTIPLE Villains from Dragonball.

The Dragonball series, much like Naruto, is another one of those shows I’ve physically TRIED to get into, but just never have been properly able to. The only Dragonball series I like is Team Four Star’s Abridged Series, and that series remains effectively unfinished. And since it’s a work of parody, I’m not sure how much one can even count that. Anytime I’ve tried to get into the franchise proper, however, it’s just never worked; I’m not sure exactly why (or why not), so to any Dragonball fans out there (I know there are a LOT of you), I apologize. HOWEVER, one thing I DO know at least a decent bit about with this franchise, and which I unabashedly and unconditionally love, are its villains. There are not one, not two, but SEVERAL villains from this series I legitimately really like and am curious about. In some cases, I’ve watched full episodes JUST to get to know more about them; it’s not enough to make me want to see the ENTIRE FRANCHISE, but they do enough right to get me engaged in them, themselves, if that makes sense. Frieza is perhaps the biggest of them all - I actually was curious about Frieza ever since I was a child - but I also feel I should mention Cell, Buu, Beerus & Champa, and some of the “redeemed villains” of the series, such as Vegeta and Piccolo. Everything I’ve seen of them I’ve loved, and if it weren’t for the fact that I can’t really get into Dragonball as a whole, despite this, and the franchise is HUMONGOUS, I’d be happy to learn more. Give the immense popularity of this universe, I’m sure the lack of villains from it will be a shame…but hopefully the ones that do make the cut, when I eventually compose my list proper, will make up for the loss.

Byakko the White Tiger, from Yu Yu Hakusho (love the character, but his few episodes are the only YYH episodes I’ve ever seen, and he’s by no means a major villain).

K-pop dünyasının hayatıma dahil olmasının nedeni, dans ile haşır neşir oluşumla ilgiliydi. Aşırı amatördüm. Ancak tutkum da vardı. Jimnastik nedeniyle ne yazık ki idealim gerçeğe dönüşemediği için içimde ukte kaldı. Haliyle BTS adına dans konusunda ve şarkının sözleri nedeniyle ilgimi çekmişti. Bunda arkadaş ortamımın büyük payı vardı... 2013 dönemi en renkli dönemlerdi. Arkadaşlarımla hep Ramen yer, K-pop dinler ve dizilere ilgi gösterirdik. Normal bence. Taeyang'ın tüm şarkılarını dinlemişliğim vardır ve senin için özel bir ses var mı dediklerinde cevabımdır önce Taeyang; K-Pop adına tabii.

İkinci zaten belli /Kim Taehyung) ve de üçüncü Jungkook. Ses tonları gerçekten farklı bir boyutta ama bana göre. ''G-Dragon ve RM ise rap konusunda açık ara harika.'' Rap dinlemeyi çok seviyorum. B.A.P.'den Zelo vardı. Aşırı beğenirdim. Ben her zaman rap seven taraftayım ama yalnızca K-Pop adına değil. Genel olarak ritmi hızlı olunca keyif verici olabiliyor. K-Pop ise rap dünyası için bence ideallerden biri. Fikrimce.

Ama şimdilerde büyüdüm Spotify listesinde yer alsalar bile açıp dinlediğim günler, ay olarak anılmaya başlandı ve bazen bir anda açıp dinliyorum mesela. Yaş geçiyor ve insan büyüyor. ''Sınır her zaman gerekli.'' K-drama dizilerini anneme söylemiştim. Yıllardır izler mesela. Şu anda bile izliyor.

Bigbang ve BTS içimde büyük bir yeri kapladığı için ergenliğim dans, müzik ve birtakım Anime dizileriyle birlikte ilerledi. Bence dolu dolu bir ergenlik geçirdim fakat sonra hepsi sona erdi... Yine de hatırlarken inanılmaz güzel anılarım var.

Bigbang'in tüm şarkıları harikadır bu arada... Şimdilerde YouTube'da bile Reaction videolar tutuldu, herkes izliyor. Biz kendi zamanımızda ''video çekelim mi?'' diye düşünmedik diye kafalarımızı taşa vuruyor olurduk şu an arkadaşımla konuşuyor olsaydım. Bana ''sen de vlog çek kanka'' diyordu üstelik. Seni dinlemediğime pişman sayılmam. Ama dinlesem iyiydi sevgili K. Yayımlayıp, eğlenirdim.😏

2016-2017 senesi daha yoğun bir K-Pop duyarlılığı vardı bünyemde. Birden türedi diyebilirim ve fena alışmıştım... Sessiz sedasız kendi ortamımda nasıl da sevimli bir K-Pop severdim. O önemlerde insan şu anki döneme şöyle bi' bakınca, ''Keşke ben ergen kalsaydım yahu!'' diyebiliyor. Çünkü şu an hiçbir şeyin tadı yok diyebilirim.

Bigbang hayatımdan çıktı.

Taeyang tek kaldı.

BTS olarak yola devam ettim, bence onlar bu yolda iyi ilerlediler... Daha çalışkan ve masum kaldılar; şöhret, bazen iyi davranmaz. K-Pop şarkıları inanılmaz enerjik ve insanları canlı tutuyor. Ben de bu nedenle K-Pop dinlemiştim 2013-2016 döneminde sıklıkla. Son 3 yıldır sadece BTS ve bazı grupların şarkıları dışında dinleyemiyorum.

Fakat BTS illa ki evren tarafından karşıma çıkıyor ve ben unutsam da kendini gösteriyor. BTS'in çantasını almıştım bir arada bu arada, J.K. yazılı. Ancak BTS logosunu sevmediğim için kullanamıyorum ve bu canımı biraz sıktı. Ben daha estetik ve beni ''aşırı fan'' gösterecek eşya kullanımına biraz uzağım. Bu gereksiz bilgiyi de bırakayım dedim.

Fakat her şey uzaktan göründüğü gibi değil...

İnsan bir süre büyüsünde kalıyor ama çabuk toparlanmakta fayda var. En azından bir akıl danışın ve birileri bir şeyler bildirsin hatta lütfen dikkate alın.

Oradaki hayat, anlatıldığı gibi değil, hele ki dizilerde yaratılan dünya inanılmaz fark yaratıyor. Dizileri ve filmleri başarılı göründüğü için haliyle İDOL güzelliği ile birlikte yanılgıya düşebiliyorsunuz ancak durum öyle değil dostlarım. Disiplin; o ülke adına harika bir reklam. İçinde yaşasanız bence daha iyi anlarsınız.

Uzaktan güzel görünüyor ve bunu zamanla fark etmiş biri olarak ve Kore'ye okumaya giden, gezen insanlardan duyduklarım kadarıyla yaratılan ütopya hayal ettiğiniz gibi değil. Yani gerçekte olduğu hâli göze çarpıyor ve güzellik algısından tut, daha neler neler var yahu.

Kore erkekleri = BTS veya bir başka İdol Grubu değil dostlarım. Irkçılık ve kadınların orada yaşadığı baskıyı, kendilerine yarattığı baskıyı azıcık araştırsanız, kulak verirseniz anlarsınız. Toplum olarak gerçekten çarpıcı detaylar ortaya çıkıyor, gözünüz kapalı ve ''ee haydi gidelim oley!'' diyebileceğiniz bir ülke değil. En azından kendiniz için büyük hayaller kurarak, dizi ve filmlerden etkilenerek, her şeyi direkt geride bırakıp kaçmayı düşündüğünüz kadar ''vaov'' bir havası yok.

''Yani işler sarpa sarmasın diye, daha bilinçli bir tutum sergilemekse, kendiniz adına çok daha sağlıklı olacak dostlarım.''

Açıkçası Kore'ye taşınmayı düşünmedim. Bir ara Tokyo'yu görmeyi çok istemiştim. Şimdilerde istemiyorum. Çünkü kafa yapısı değişiyor. Ve bence o yaşta normaldi bu ilgi fakat aşırıya kaçan arkadaşlarımı ve onların arkadaşlarını sessizce izlediğimde, kendilerini kaptırma olayı abartıya kaçıyor ve ülkeyi terk edip... woah, it's definitely going on my watch list now, few posts i've seen talking or reviewing jjba always used complicated gargon so i could never properly pay attention to what they were saying but reading your post was v nice and i can assume you like it a lot, when did you start watching if i could ask?(/notforced)

also thank you for avoiding the spoilers lol, i'm tempted to search up spoilers but now i just wanna enjoy this series and the manga properly so i'll avoid those (really the only 'spoiler' i've ever seen is the "it's me dio" meme, if that even counts as a 'spoiler'?) 

out of curiosity i just searched what j giel looked like, interesting design choices? ig? ;; (/halfjoke) but once again ty for the major spoilers warning, i'm kind of itching to find out for myself now haha

i never realized the artstyle of jjba has changed so much actually? i've seen late 3-early 4 artstyle so finding out about this style diversity is actually so cool, it really matches the years they were in well, early part 1 reminds of me some of the hero comics i've seen from around those years as well. this chart manages to show the changes v well though, it looks so pretty

and now that you mention it, kira dude does look like david bowie now that i think about it, and woah he has an entire season/arc? is he a major character or some kind? (/genquestion) i'm looking forward to watching that season now, the 'slice of life/detective drama' combo sounds interesting and i've never thought to combine those before so i'm hyped (/gen)

yes it should!!!11! i started watching/reading it in... 2019/2020 i think. it was when i lived in my old house so it was sometime around there my brother actually recommended it to me!! we watched it together, and we've watched every season (other than the latest- stone ocean. we watched it separately for that one) together and it honestly probably is part of why i love it so much because i generally associate him with it haha

you shouldnt spoil it AT ALLL its such a great series and stone ocean was so bad for me because i already knew the entire ending (cuz i read the manga) so watching the anime. was intensely sorrowing because it was all so stunningly beautiful and heart moving and yada yada but i knew what was gonna happen!!! all the suspense was gone!!!

and and and. i feel like even with j geil it just shows how DYNAMIC or whatever the art style is.. like

hes DISGUSTING but it fits!!! even when you watch the show the overall style change may really not register until you sit back and think aboutit because its like a gradual switch, a really pretty switch though since it really just shows the magaka (hirohiko araki) growing and learning with the series its really beautiful

im slightly sure kira was based off him but i really cant be sure his design can 100% be since alot of things in the show starting part 3 i think are like references to bands and songs-- kira for example's power, killer queen, like the song by queen has a power called bites the dust and sheer heart attack, just like the albums/songs from queen aswell its really smart isnt it?? and kira really is important. i wont elaborate but hes really important in season 3/part 4 (season one has the first two parts, "phantom blood" and "battle tendency" then every part after is its own season-- probably because part 1 and 2.. well.. are different to the rest- youll see why) if u watch it youll either love him cuz hes kinda lovable when u ignore his Biggest "Flaw" (a character flaw, like a trait not flaw as in story flaw). or youll love him cuz every scene with him atleast to me is really. uhh i forgot the word in english : D enthralling? rohans designs are honestly. the best designs in jojo to me and the main reason for that is kinda cuz theyre pretty not bizarre (in comparison.)

it also has to do with part 4's coloring aswel, like i cant find the image but his hair is just. blue one time (and purple i think) just cuz they never really do that uch after part4 which is so sad.. but its okay because it makes part 4 more unique also. rohans outfits change it might not seem like much but rohans outfits. change probably becuz hes araki's self insert so hes always making him cool (like in stone ocean where,,, uhh.. basically something happens and time is speeding up a bit, and no mangakas can make manga becuz their ink drys up too fast, and rohan is the only mangaka whos still pushing out manga- cuz of his powers) Im. rambling. UHH ive started chainsaw man only recently so i cant go as in depth as jojo but once ive finished. well if i finish ill definitely have new opinions for now though i love kobeni
