100% due to @nerves-nebula turtleposting I have watched all of rottmnt and the movie and after a lot of weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth due to how much I like it and my turtle sons I now present:
Boy who was a human sacrifice to bring some eldritch horrors into the world but the horrors liked Grim as much as they do in his canon so after a hundred years of cooking in a fungal egg in an underground chamber he wakes up alone and scared and sewer-adjacent and now he’s got a new family :3

Back with a post for chapter 2 in Roth’s Ransom.
This chapter flashes back to a year earlier when Lara was first reading about the St. Petersburg Pearl, a priceless pearl necklace said to have been worn by Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna and given to her by the mystic Grigori Rasputin as a last gift before his assassination in 1916. And not even 3 months later would Tsar Nicholas II and his family be executed by the Bolsheviks.
But then she catches word of her stepmother Ana not wanting Roth to take her on another adventure out of fear she’ll join her father in death. But what Lara is currently going through a year later in the captivity of Boran “Boris Gladov” Gladovich is much worse than death…
Roth meanwhile reunites with Reyes and the gang to tell the unfortunate truth about his debt to the Liberty City Bratva and prepares to depart to present-day Azerbaijan, said to be the hiding place of the necklace after one of the last Tsarist generals fled from Moscow with it to participate in the Bolshevik take-over of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Chapter 2 of Roth’s Ransom contains continued non con including touching (fondling+groping), humilation, and implied rape as well as mentioned major character and historical character deaths.

Based off a post I saw with the idea that Robert Smirke had fourteen friends, each falling too/representing a different entity, with Smirke himself being the Extinction.
To get the obvious ones out of the way: Jonah Magnus as the Eye, Mordechai Lukas as the Lonely, Maxwell Rayner as the Dark, and George Gilbert Scott as the Buried; these ones are all canon. Not directly canon but a pretty reasonable assumption is Simon Fairchild as the Vast; we know Simon had Maxwell Rayner help him with his Awful Deep ritual in 1853, which was only a few years before Smirke died, and Smirke hung out with Rayner a ton, so it makes sense for Simon to be part of the group (though by a different name; he only started going by “Simon Fairchild” in the 1930s). Another fairly reasonable assumption, in my opinion, is John Franklin for the Hunt. Franklin is canonically a Hunt avatar in The Magnus Archives, his real-life timeline overlaps with Smirke and the rest, and Rayner was canonically interested in his expedition, which was probably because he wanted to use Franklin’s knowledge of arctic exploration for his ritual, but could also imply they knew each other, and therefore, Smirke’s gang.
For the Corruption, my first thought was John Amherst, but he only became an avatar during the Second Boer War, which was about half a century after Smirke’s time. Instead, John Snow is a better fit. He was an English physician who lived during the same time as Smirke, and he had something going on; his descendant Neil Thompson has a syringe that belonged to Snow that had Corruption properties, so Snow fits. For the Slaughter, we could go with Charles Fleming. We know he was in China from at least the beginning of the First Opium War in 1839, and Smirke and Jonah and the rest were up and active on their supernatural studies since at least the 1810s, so it’s theoretical Fleming could have hung out with them, even though he didn’t become touched by the Slaughter until he went to China. Maybe he came back later, though he was in China at least until 1862. Alternatively, William Hall, the actual captain of the Nemesis, could be an option, his lifetime overlaps pretty well with Smirke’s, though there is no evidence he interacted with the Slaughter besides his interactions with Fleming and the Nemesis. Still, he was probably a bit more high-society that Fleming, so I kind of prefer him. Finally, for the more reasonable ones, we have Joey Grimaldi for the Stranger. Grimaldi’s timeline overlaps with Smirke’s, and we know he was affected by the Stranger even before he was turned into Nikola Orsinov. The reason I’m choosing Grimaldi instead of Gregor Orsinov or Nikolai Denikin is that we know for sure he was in England while Smirke was, unlike the other two.
Now for the more out-there guesses. For the Flesh, there are a few options. One is Eustace Wick, the Lutheran priest-turned-cannibal, who did live at the same time as Smirke, but he became an avatar in 1832, died in 1845, and has no evidence that he’d even been to England, considering he’s American. The other options would be Benjamin Carlisle, Benjamin’s unnamed wife, or possibly some other relative or descendant of theirs. I find this one the more likely choice, because Jonathan Sims specifically wonders how Benjamin Carlisle’s wife was able to give her statement to the Magnus Institute, considering she starved to death in a cave on the Oregon Trail in 1845, as well as the fact that an apparent descendant of her, Toby Carlisle, is living in England by the 21st Century and has enough of a connection with the Flesh to be pretty severely affected by the failure of the Last Feast ritual. The unnamed Mrs. Carlisle being the Flesh representative does mean she presumably gave in and cannibalized her husband, and the timeline only gives her about a decade to have hung out with the rest before Smirke’s death, but I think that fits, considering what Smirke said about just coming up with theories about the Flesh in his statement.
The Spiral has similarly not a lot to go on. I would just say the Distortion, seeing as it’s an immortal manifestation of the Spiral itself. We know that Ivo Lenshik’s father was tormented by the Distortion in a human form, and apparently Lenshik’s great-uncle did too, implying that the Distortion did assume a humanoid form sometimes, before it was forced to by the failure of the Great Twisting ritual. Plus, Jonah Magnus clearly knows who the Distortion is, which yes, he could have learned at literally any point from the past two hundred years, but seeing as we’ve got nothing else, I’ll choose to believe. For the Web, the only older avatars of the Web we’re aware of would be the historical owners of the house at Hill Top Road. We don’t know who owned it during Smirke’s time; the closest we have are the unnamed blackmailer who died during the English Civil War in the mid-1600s, and Walter Fielding, who died in 1923. Walter’s son and grandson both owned the house for about thirty years before dying, so with the same amount of time applied, Walter couldn’t be our Web avatar. Honestly, the answer might just have to be “whichever Web avatar was owning the house at Hill Top Road during the first half of the 19th Century.”
For the Desolation, we have even less. Diego Molina founded the Cult of the Lightless Flame at some point prior to World War II, but we have no idea when, and it couldn’t have been that long, considering what Eugene Vanderstock says about the immortality of Desolation avatars having some kind of limit. The same is true of the End. The only known End avatar who was alive during Smirke’s time was Nathaniel Thorp, who was a Death at the time, and didn’t become human again until 1970. It’s unlikely that Deaths got breaks to socialize.
So, in summary, we know for sure about:
* Jonah Magnus — The Eye
* Mordechai Lukas — The Lonely
* Maxwell Rayner — The Dark
* George Gilbert Scott — The Buried
We can make some reasonable assumptions about:
* Simon Fairchild — The Vast
* John Franklin — The Hunt
We can make educated guesses about:
* John Snow — The Corruption
* William Hall — The Slaughter
* Joey Grimaldi — The Stranger
We can make complete guesses about:
* Mrs. Carlisle — The Flesh
* The Distortion — The Spiral
* Owner of the house at Hill Top Road — The Web
And we have nothing for:
* The Desolation
* The End
If anyone has ideas or things I missed, let me know.

Welcome to Ritual Counceling for aspiring Avatars!
"Please... Dear Cult of the Lightless Flame. What is this? What. Is. This? You cannot - and I will stress this, you absolutely cannot - just say 'we'll wait until our Chosen One decides'. That is not even a ritual! Are you even trying?"
"Yes, doing something with meat makes sense, but have you thought about something else than just throwing it in a hole? The church is a nice touch, I understand, but... you could be doing something with the meat? Or better yet, involve... actual people? Who are afraid? And not just run into your ritual on accident?? You know... FOR THE FEAR???"
"Mr Crew, 'Simon will figure it out' is not an admissible ritual. Simon has never figured out anything in his life. And it is a long, long life."
"Please always remember our three Do's: Be scary. Be big. Be on theme. Yes, that also counts for you CuLT OF THE LIghTLeSS FLaMe, why again did you try to birth a child, to fuel your destruction ritual? Care to explain that one?"
"'Just running around :)' is a lovely idea, my dear hunters, but please start consulting me, after you figured out, how your ritual ends. Please. For my own sanity."
"Yes, dear war ghosts, using war is very on theme, but you have to understand that confining your ritual to a boat, is a generally bad idea, if you want the slaughter to OOZE OUT INTO THE WORLD!!"
"Oh, hello, Mr Kennedy, I am sorry, but this is an Advanced Class, 'how to torture 101' is just around the corner :)"
"Also remember out three Dont's: Don't create your ritual around any structure that can explode. Don't involve something extremely specific that you cannot duplicate. And lastly DO NOT antagonize your arch nemesis while creating your ritual. Yes, we have been over this, Gertrude Robinson counts as your arch nemesis by default."
"Please, Jane, why again did you try to open a portal to the hive, while attacking an archive full of fire extringuishers? Care to explain that one to me?"
"Look at Grimaldi's Circus, they figured it out! After the mistake of using the old gorilla skin they switched to the skin of any Archivist, which is way more common to get! Now have you thought about moving your ritual to Greece?"
"I cannot believe this, Cult of the Lightless Flame, you managed to involve both your Arch Nemesis - the Web - AND Gertrude Robinson in your shitshow of a ritual. You barely have a ritual and still managed to screw it up."
"Mr. Banks, stop sleeping in class! I do not care how spiritual the experience is for you!"
"I know, your uncle sponsors this institute, Mr. Fairchild, but you still need to put up an idea that is more concrete that "idk, space?" What, you actually sent a guy into space? That is lovely, what did you learn? "Space, scary?" ..... I don't know why I even bother..."
"What do you mean, Cult of the Lightless Flame, your Chosen One decided to kill herself after one second of doubt?... Did you at least burn her?..... EXCUSE ME???"
"That's it. I am hanging up the portrait of Jonah Magnus again, until one of you can figure somthing out that at least works as decently as his... oh, now the Lukas family is actually working on something."

MAG 104 Relisten
Activity on my first listen: putting up a new fence
Another ambiguous episode title? Sneak Preview. We get a glimpse at what the Unknowing is going to look like. But we also get foreshadowing of Tim's fate.
Eduardo Acosta, right up there with Hazel Rutter. The statements we never got to hear.
Martin squealing is one of my favorite moments of him.
TIM: [Dourly] "I’ve been moving boxes in here for a while." MARTIN: "You… have you?" TIM: "Yeah. Everything alright?" MARTIN: "Yeah, I guess. I kind of… zone out a bit when I have to read a statement." The statements seem to seriously affect Martin. Maybe that's why he got cosy with the Lonely so fast he could turn invisible after just a few months. He already got plenty of experience from the Eye. Also Tim sounds dreadful :(
The viseral hate when Tim says "Statement begins". He seems to like "statement ends" though. He says it in MAG 80, just to make his point and I think he does that again but I can't remember/find where...
TIM: "We didn’t really talk much, me and Danny. We were still pretty close, and he’d usually keep me updated on whatever his latest obsession was." My sister and me are like this (though, I'd say we talk fairly much). I’m Danny, the younger sibling. She actually has a career and a degree and I always get into silly things, lol.
TIM: "He tended to throw himself into a thing completely for about six months, and well, then he’d get bored, and something new would catch his eye." I am pretty much like this! Though usually my obsessions last a bit longer. My shortest was about a year and a half?
TIM: "that was when I first heard the name Robert Smirke." Finally we find out, why Tim is so obsessed with Smirke!
I googled Covent Garden Theatre. Didn't really find much about it being urbex-able (is that a word...?). There's plenty of history though. Smirke designed what was already the second theatre in this place, as the first one had burned down in 1808 (and the second theatre also burned down in 1856). 2 years before the first theatre burned down, Joseph Grimaldi performed at Covent Garden theatre and his performance was revived at the second theatre. He made his name there.
TIM: "He mumbled something then, very quietly, and I couldn’t really make it out, but it sounded like the name ‘Joey’." Let's check wikipedia: "Grimaldi was an innovator: his performance as 'Joey' introduced the clown to the world, building on the existing role of Harlequin derived from the Commedia dell'arte." -> If anybody ever was confused by the name drop (because I was), that’s the reference.
Ahhh, the calliope music when Tim describes Danny's drawings of Grimaldi.
TIM: "To the auditorium? No. If I had, I… I don’t think they’d let me leave a second time." That's what I meant about the episode title. Tim will return to the Circus. And he will not leave a second time. Things will happen on his conditions at least though.
MARTIN: "I mean, 200 years is a long time, but…" TIM: "Yeah, it’s him, though." First time we hear about non-End-avatars getting really old, is it? Does that Archivist thing count? I mean, it was human once, but I think it didn’t look much like a human anymore (not like Simon or Maxwell or Jonah).
TIM: [Incensed] "Oh, oh, you mean it? Oh well, that’s different. Okay, well, let me tell you what. If you want me to ignore everything that’s going on, forget my brother and everything that’s happened over the last two years, how about you kill me?" Tim is completely lost, it's sad...

Grimwalker Jonah’s short and eventful tenure as the Golden Guard, relatively early during Belos’s ministry, perhaps only 4 or 5 grimwalkers into it. He experienced toddlerhood and as much of a childhood as someone like Philip could give him, and lived to see twenty-one before the instability in his makeup - either because Philip fiddled with the spell and put bones from more than one ortet in the mixture or because one of the bones belonged to Philip, transmitting a form of his curse - caused a complete breakdown in Jonah’s ability to maintain a physical, non sludge body.
Philip did not allow himself to become as attached to any of the others, after that.

Tma time travel fixit but where Jon/Martin go back to very specific points in time to change very little things to cause absolute chaos in the timeline
Break into Jane Prentiss' house and burn the wasp nest before she even notices
Go back to the time that planner built the gas main under the institute and delete it from the blueprints
Steal the skin book from that one doctor Mary ended up killing
Prevent Danny stoker from ever meeting Abigail Ellison (who got him into public exploration)
Sabotage Simon Fairchild's sky painting before he fell into it
Help Grimaldi find a job before he goes off to look for the Circus
Rent and renovate the building where Daisy and Calvin explored as kids so they won't ever go there
Go to that gathering of Robert Smirke, Jonah Magnus and the rest of the lot and just. Go off on them all
Become close friends with Graham Folger so he won't be alone. Also make him and Oliver go to therapy
Destroy the mausoleum in Germany with fire before Albrecht von Closen ever finds it and tells Jonah about it
Teach Robert Smirke about spectrums and post modern philosophy
Go back and make Jurgen Leitner's family go bankrupt before he is even born
Alternatively, go back to when Gerry finds Leitner and tell him that *is* the correct guy he's punching
