Hello!
This one is from a request, you still can ask me to write something if you want to :)
I have to say that I'm not really sure about this one, but here it is.
Enjoy ♥
TW : Angst, harassment, divorce, loneliness.
______________________________________________________________
Your arrival in Barcelona at the winter transfer almost a year ago has gone rather well. You quickly bonded with most of the players and you didn’t have any trouble becoming a part of the FC Barcelona family. You maybe wasn't in the Top 3 of the public favorite players, but you don't really mind. You were a bit sad about the departure of some of them this summer, especially Jenni and Ana who were kind of mentors for you during these few months. And even if you continue to exchange news with them, you must admit that it is not the same.
Playing previously in Seville, you already knew quite well some of the players of the team, usually staying on the pitch after the matches to chat a little. You were separated during the World Cup, your national team not being strong enough to pass the qualifications you were in the first to return to training in Barcelona. This did not prevent you from making the trip to Australia to support your friends and obviously the Spanish national team.
You celebrated their victory from the VIP party with friends and family before returning to Barcelona in your daily routine. The world champions have gradually returned to training and you have welcomed new players to the team, always in a good mood.
Everything seems perfect told like that, yet there is something that bothers you since your arrival in Barcelona.
Aitana Bonmati.
She never seemed very happy to see you arrive and you never understood why. At first you said to yourself that she was perhaps afraid that your arrival would cause an imbalance in the group, as can happen sometimes when an element has a too strong personality. Some are afraid of change and you have not asked yourself more questions than that, letting this information slip into a corner of your brain. She wasn’t necessarily part of the small group of girls you trained with regularly anyway since you don’t play in the same spot on the field.
But this summer, you could see that the new arrivals had the right to a big smile and other privileges to which you were not entitled. It’s not really a question of ego, but you don’t understand what you did to her to make her react this way with you. And that's hurt.
You have even noticed with the passing of time that she tends to be rather unpleasant with you, not responding to your hello when you arrive in the locker room for example. It happens to her to roll discreetly her eyes when you speak and you even surprised once Ona throwing her an elbow in the ribs while making the big eyes. It was a relief to see that you were not crazy and that your teammates were taking your side, but it also confirmed what you thought.
And gradually, it plunged you into a kind of constant anxiety, reminding you of some of your traumas during your childhood and adolescence. During which you were often mocked, the girl who preferred to play football rather than dance. Your father always supported you in your choices, unlike your mother, your big brother and your big sister. When they separated you went to live with him and he sacrificed a lot so that you would be where you are today, but you never had the heart to tell him about the harassment you were experiencing at school.
**********
"Can I talk to you?"
Alexia’s voice surprises you while you were focused on the laces of your Converse, making you jump a little. Lost in your thoughts, you were ruminating about the disaster you were during this training. You didn’t put a single ball in the net, you got so distracted that you got a remonstrance from Jona and you almost kill Mapi with a bad pass. Mapi preferred to laugh and quickly came to reassure you by giving you a friendly slap in the back and a hug, to your greatest relief. You would have been horrified to be hated by another of your teammates.
"Sure" you mumble without looking at her.
Alexia’s voice was sweet when she offered to follow her to one of the conference rooms and you complied after picking up your bag and stuff. All the other girls have already returned and the corridors now seem deserted.
When you arrive in the room, you watch Alexia open the blinds slightly as you stand against the wall, very close to the door. You’re anxious and just waiting to be scolded. It often happened like this, teachers taking you aside to say that you weighed on the morale or level of the class. That you had to work on it if you wanted to be accepted and have good results. But no one ever seemed to wonder why you didn’t get along with your classmates. No one ever noticed or understood the harassment you were experiencing. You never mentioned that either, but you would have given ten years of your life for someone to notice. Anyone.
So when Alexia turns to you with an almost maternal expression, it completely disarms you. Her eyes were soft and you can easily detect a form of concern in it.
"You can come closer, I won’t eat you" Alexia gently smiles before sitting on one of the tables, probably to make this conversation less formal.
After hesitating for a second, you settle down in front of her playing nervously with your hair.
"What can I do for you?" you ask, instead of "How are you gonna let me know that I’m gonna heat up the backup bench over the next few weeks?"
"I just wanted to make sure that everything was fine. You seem a little out of place these last few days and it’s starting to worry us. I talked with Jona about it today"
She seems embarrassed to tell you that she told someone else about you without you knowing, making you frown. Your facial expression is probably misunderstood by your captain as she hastens to add
"Don’t take this the wrong way. we’re just worried about you"
"I... I'm fine"
You shrug before biting your lip. You are a bad liar, you know it. And it didn't fool Alexia.
"You don’t have to tell me if you don’t feel comfortable with it. But there are other people here who will listen to you with pleasure."
"Don’t worry about me. It was just a time like this, but I’ll be fine"
Because it's what you always did. Figuring and fighting things alone, even if you have now friends who you trust and who you know you can count on.
"You don't have to do that alone, you know"
"Why do you even care?"
You roll your eyes. Sur Alexia is a great captain, and you like her a lot. As a friend of course, but you can't denied that she deserve her title. Like most other girls she is sincerely kind and knows how to distinguish between competition and friendships in the locker room. This is an example for you, as it is for many other girls. And even if she knows all this, she remains modest and does not take the big head. Pretty impressive, in your opinion.
"Is that even a question Y/N?"
Alexia laughs, but it’s a surprise laugh. She seems surprised at the sincerity of your question. And, seeing that you don't answer, she gently shakes her head before answering you.
"Because we care, you're part of this family and even if half of us are totaly crazy, we care for each other. Whatever your problem is, you don't have to figure out alone."
And these sentences, even if it seems to be the most natural thing for Alexia, break down the barriers you have put up until now. You feel tears wet your cheeks without being able to do anything to stop them. As if the dam that you had formed all these years had broken and all the tears that you had retained until today finally decided to come out. And obviously, it bothers you terribly.
You mumble excuses between two sobs, but after more or less calling you an idiot, Alexia breaks the distance between you two to take you in her arms and rock you against her. You don’t know how long you stay like this, but you still stop crying.
So you tell her everything.
The harassment when you were little, from part of your family and the children in your classes. The divorce of your parents which you feel responsible despite everything, this feeling of loneliness that you have since you were born certainly. This feeling of never being fully understood by anyone, until you arrived here. And then you talk about your teammate who reminds you of that, without giving her name. You don’t want to be a problem and Alexia doesn’t ask you to name her. Maybe because she already knows who she is?
The blonde listens to you without saying a word, patiently wiping the tears that continue to roll on your cheeks. When you are silent, exhausted by these confessions and your tears, she speaks again in a calm and soothing voice.
"I’m not going to pretend that I understand you because I was lucky enough to have a family that always supported me. I wouldn’t be here without them, honestly."
The bond between Alexia and her mother, even her sister is know by anyone. You nod, still looking at her.
"But you, you made your way all by yourself. You're only 21 Y/N, you don't realise how strong you are. But being strong doesn't always mean you have to be alone. You have friends here, people who love you and care for you. You are not alone anymore."
With that you smile at her, feeling relieved. As if the weight of all these years were coming off your shoulders. You even feel like you can breathe better. So you thank Alexia, with simple words but you couldn’t explain how much you think about them. As she lays a kiss on your cheek, you put your arms around her neck to hug her and press your words. She gives you your hug back before training you out of the room. Tomorrow is another day and you promise to do better than that.
**********
The rest of the workouts of the week are much better and you decide to completely ignore Aitana. You remain polite nevertheless, but you act as if she's not there. And this seems to annoy her even more but you decided that's not your problem. Many times you feel her look burn your back and you have time to see her black look before she realizes that you are looking at her and she looks away.
But your morale and your game are back to normal and it’s a great relief for you. For Alexia and your coach too, the man simply slips you a short compliment at the end of a session. No need to make tons and that’s enough for you.
The last practice before the next game goes as usual. You do your warm-ups with your fellow defenders, then you are shuffled for courses and drills before a five-player mini-team tournament is organized. You feel a form of anxiety that makes your heart beat when your team is against Aitana, but you decide to focus on the game.
It goes pretty well until you are tackled a little too ferociously by someone from the opposing team. The pain in your ankle and instantaneous and you can’t hold a cry of pain as you collapse to the ground.
"What the fuck Aitana?" Mapi snaps, but you don't really care for now.
The second duel that took place next to you seems to have stopped too, but the tears of pain that fill your eyes prevent you from seeing it for the moment.
"You're ok?"
Irene has knelt beside you and you feel a compassionate hand behind your back. Long black hair obscuring part of the view informs you that it's Ingrid. You answer a simple no with a nod and a few minutes later you are transported to the infirmary. Ona offered to accompany you and you agreed, realizing that you didn't want to be alone.
**********
"Sprain" informs you the nurse and you let yourself go against the file of the infirmary bed on which you are. "It means rest for two weeks."
You pout, but turn your attention to Ona when she places a friendly hand on your arm. You are so used to spending this kind of time alone that you sometimes forget for a few seconds that she is with you. You must be able to easily win the worst friend award.
"At least it’s not the ligaments" Ona said softly.
"You’re right" you sigh.
She gives you a compassionate smile and you assure her that she can take a shower and change. You still have the prescription to wait and the nurse must come back with your brace and crutches. After making sure you weren’t going to go home with an Uber but with her and Lucy, she eventually left the room. She even offers to inform the rest of the team of your injury and you accept willingly, not wanting to go to put a show there downstairs.
A few minutes pass and you always wait when someone knocks on the door.
"I still haven’t finished Ona, but you can come in."
Except that it is not Ona who enters, but Aitana. The look fixed on her shoes and the air of someone who goes to the torture room. And this time, the anger you had not yet felt takes hold of you.
"I came to apologize" Aitana mumbles without turning her eyes towards you.
"Well, it's done" you answer coldly, turning your back on her.
You don’t want to look at her. You’re mad at her, at her behavior. That she doesn’t like you is one thing, but that she makes you unable to play for two weeks is another.
"It wasn't voluntary"
You hold a sarcastic laugh and slowly shake your head.
"Ok."
Aitana seems surprised at your reaction, but you don’t care. It's true that usually you are more the one who flees the conflict and who prefers to go with the idea of the person in front of you to please her. She stands there and it annoys you. So you suddenly turn your head in her direction and you talk to her dryly.
"All right, you can go now. Just leave me alone."
The tone of your voice seems to make her react since she frowns and steps in your direction.
"Don’t talk to me like that."
You feel your heart racing, you have never been very good at dealing with disputes and emotions. Until now you had managed to buried them deep inside when they became too powerful but it seems that since your confessions to Alexia you are no longer able to do so. She says it’s a pretty good things, but you're not really sure about that.
"Don’t tell me how to talk to you when you’ve been treating me like shit since I got here, Aitana."
Aitana is stunned. She never saw you angry and expected you to accept her apology so that she could get out of this room as quickly as she got in. Her lost look irritates you a little more, she knew very well what she was doing by behaving as she did since the beginning. And you gradually realized that you didn’t deserve this.
"Who made you come here? Mapi, Alexia, Jonatan?"
She blushs and it's enough for you to understand that you are right. If she had the choice, she would never had been here, begging for your forgiveness.
"Get out" you groan, turning your back at her once again.
She didn't and you sigh before getting up as you can. It may not be the most graceful way to do it and it may take some drama off the stage, but you don't care.
"I said get out" you say, raising your voice now. "You don't want to be here and I don't want you here."
But she’s still not moving and your patience is coming to an end. From now on there is nothing else that separates you, except the bed on which you were lying a few moments ago. The nurse still hasn’t come back, but this might be the time to do it please.
"I- " began Aitana, without saying anything more.
"What do you want? Two weeks without me aren't enough? Want to break my other leg too?"
The frustration you feel about not understanding Aitana’s reaction and behavior may be pushing you a little to say things you never had the courage to say before. But it was less positive to return the floor to your interlocutor, whose face and eyes finally come alive again.
"I told you I didn't mean it" she half-screams and you snort. "Maybe I was wrong for acting with you like I did but..."
"Maybe?!" you interrupt her coldly.
"You made my life a living hell! You came here with your damn smile and skills and all my life fell appart!" Aitana is clearly shooting now and you blink, surprised by her rage. "I was in an healthy relationship, happy in my life and with this team. And you came along and everything fell apart! I am straight ok, I am so fucking straight but all I can think about all the time is you! I hate you for the way you make me feel but I'm not fucking able to change it even if I tried since you are here"
It is your turn to remain silent, your brain analyzing each of the words that she just said. And all this has absolutely no meaning for you, except the part where she confesses her hatred to you perhaps. Aitana’s breathing is fast and noisy, you can’t tell if it’s that or your screams that didn’t allow you to realize that you were no longer alone in the room.
"Hmm."
You look over Aitana’s shoulder and you realize that Ona has returned to the room with Lucy holding your crutches and a sheet of paper while she herself carry your bag.
"Maybe it’s time to go home"
Lucy’s perfectly expressionless face keeps you from knowing how long she’s been here. Two steps behind her, Ona makes her look between you and Aitana without saying anything. You nod and pass in front of Aitana with a limp, Ona reacting by breaking the last meters to help you take your crutches in hand.
You follow them silently to Lucy’s car and after some arguments with Ona you finally agree to sit in the passenger seat. By taking your phone out of your pocket, you realize that you have received some messages from your teammates wishing you a good recovery. And you quickly understand that they have created a tournus between them so that you are not alone at home. There will apparently be only during the trip next weekend where you will not have peace. But it makes you smile and a little forget what just happened.
"You want to eat with us tonight?" Lucy asks.
"Nah I'm good thank you. I usually watch some crap TV show on friday night."
You see Lucy peeking at you to make sure you’re not playing superhero and you feel the way she’s measuring you. You look up and sigh.
"I assure you it’s okay. Enjoy your Friday night, I’ll probably go to bed early anyway."
This time it's Ona that Lucy looks through the rearview mirror but neither of them insists, to your relief. Being alone doesn't bother you. Once at home, Ona helps you get out of the vehicle and before she can open her mouth, you speak again.
"I promise, i'm fine Ona."
"All right. I’ll leave you alone on the condition that you swear on your cat’s head that you will write me if you're not okay."
"Leave the poor cat alone" you joke, making her smile. "I promise."
**********
The doorbell on your front door makes you frown. You’re sitting on your couch, a blanket on your legs and your cat on your stomach. Your sprain is better, it must be said that after a week and a half of rest it would be dramatic that this is not the case. You have resumed muscle training, but it is obviously out of the question that you start running again for now. You can now move without your crutches and it was a great relief to be able to get rid of them. Your ankle is still carefully immobilized but you are now doing quite well.
Salma left your apartment half an hour ago, and you’re supposed to stop receiving visitors. Your father phones you every day and hasn’t done it yet, but he has no reason to show up here unannounced. That’s really not his style.
The bell rings again, waking up your cat who is rustling a little before going to eat croquettes in the kitchen. So you get up from the couch and go to the door, opening it without removing the safety chain to see who it is. And almost immediately you close the door, but the fingers of Aitana who slip into the opening prevent you to do so.
"Don’t make me break your fingers"
"Just let me in"
"No? What the hell"
"Y/N, please…"
The despair of her voice makes you flinch and you press your forehead against the door. You’re too sensitive to people’s distress to leave someone with that feeling. Even if it was Aitana herself who put you in this emotion there a few weeks ago. You sigh and, already regretting your gesture, you open the door to let her in. You avoid looking at her when she enters your home, closing the door behind her.
"You have a cat?"
You refrain from pointing out that if she had been interested in you instead of making you regret your arrival, she would know. If you don’t talk about your cat several times during the day, there is a problem.
"How do you know where I live?"
Aitana stop looking at your cat who spread out on your plaid to turn to you. With your arms crossed, you wait for his answer with a certain hint of curiosity. Aitana has never set foot in your house and if you are not mistaken, she does not really live in the neighborhood.
"I asked Irene"
She shrugs and you signal her to settle down on the couch. You go back to your place, gently pushing your cat to be a little more comfortable. With a simple look he made you understand that you're annoying, making you smile gently. You caress him to apologize as he stretches, rolls into a ball and closes his eyes.
"I came to apologize"
Sitting on the edge of the couch, Aitana looks at you with the same suspicion as if she had been the last piece of meat in the middle of a horde of hungry lions.
"I’ve already heard that before" you answer by arching an eyebrow
"I know. But I just... I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, really. My problems shouldn’t have affected you. I should have handled things differently, but I was confuse and scared."
She looks sincere and does not look away when you judge her with yours. Next to you your cat stretches lazily before turning around on the other side and continuing his nap.
"Ok. Apologizes accepted"
She looks at you so long it makes you uncomfortable. You have never been in her presence for so long and you find yourself nervously wrapping your hair around your finger.
"If I could, I would do things differently, you know? I understand it’s out of the question that something is happening between us now, but I would like to start all over again. Get to know you, possibly offer you a date and then two if things go well."
You’re slowly biting your lip looking at her. You’d be lying if you said that the words she said in the infirmary didn’t mark you. You were far from imagining that the reason for his behavior was related to an attraction to you. You think it’s pretty toxic, but you like to think people deserve a second chance. After biting your lip, you bend over and reach out to her.
"Well... Hi. I'm Y/N, nice to meet you."

Penalty Box Series— Imagines Edition: Little Bird
Tumblr media
totaalllyyy not projecting a little bit here! (this is a lie. i cried for two hours straight over this song.)
here’s a little wedding planning fic! happy ending! i promise!
warnings: crying, mentions of a rough childhood, particularly absent fathers
word count: ~1.8k
22-23 Season/Summer Series Masterlist
—————
The last thing you wanted while starting to plan your wedding was to have a mental breakdown in front of everyone.
And by everyone, you mean everyone. Trevor, Jack, Quinn, Luke, Cole, Alex, and your essentially adoptive parents Ellen and Jim.
You had your music on shuffle as you started looking at color schemes and flower arrangements. It was great at first— the speaker played Taylor, early 2000s pop music, Morgan Wallen and other country songs, 5SOS, and even some One Direction.
And then Little Bird by The Jonas Brothers came on.
You barely noticed it at first, treating it more like background music. Until the chorus. And the second verse. And the rest of the song.
'Cause I know if I'm doin' my job correct
Nights like these will happen less
So please just keep me in your heart
When you fly into somebody else's arms, little bird
Yeah, yeah
Walked down the aisle, breakin' my heart
Lay down my pride, I know I gotta let you go
'Cause he's gonna love you when I gotta leave you
Gotta believe it when the Lord takes me home
You got a little emotional at the chorus and decided to push past it. It was just a song. But when Joe started singing about a father walking his daughter down the aisle, you lost it.
Trevor was quick to jump out of his seat and wrap his arms around you. He was standing while you were still sitting, cradling your head into his chest and rubbing your back.
“Turn it off,” Trevor said softly, but urgently, to Jack.
Jack ushered to the speaker and unplugged it, ceasing the music in the middle of the next chorus. Trevor and Quinn shared a panicked look. Everyone was dead silent and still, no one knew what to do. The lyrics that got to you were wedding and father related. The whole song is about a father’s love for his daughter, something that your biological father didn’t have for you.
“I won’t be offended if you need Quinn, sweet girl,” Trevor whispered to you. “Just nod your head if it’s him you need.”
“B-both,” you choked out.
That took your fiancé off guard. He wasn’t sure if there was ever a moment where you needed both of the two most important people to you during a breakdown.
“Let’s go upstairs,” Quinn said.
Trevor slowly released his hold and held out both of his hands for you to take. He pulled you up and threw one arm around your shoulder and used his other to place a comforting hand on your upper arm.
You bit back your sobs as you left the kitchen to go upstairs into your and Trevor’s room in the lake house. The second the door closed behind you, you threw yourself into Quinn’s arms, who was sitting on the edge of the bed.
Quinn wrapped you up tight, and Trevor sat down close to you and Quinn and returned to rubbing your back in soothing circles.
“It’s alright, Sissy,” Quinn cooed. “We got you. You’re safe. Let it all out.”
You violently sobbed into your best friend’s chest. Your entire body was shaking; there was no way that the rest of your loved ones downstairs couldn’t hear you.
“Why didn’t he want me?!” you shouted through your cries. Then, softer, “Why didn’t he love me?”
“He didn’t deserve you,” Quinn answered low.
“He still doesn’t deserve you,” Trevor elaborated on Quinn’s words.
You continued to bawl. You sobbed so hard that your head was starting to pound. You sobbed so loud that your throat was burning. The boys stayed mostly quiet, only occasionally offering assuring whispers of “it’s alright,” and “let it out” variations.
Your sobs, over half an hour later, eventually died down into a silent cry with only sniffles as a tell.
“He doesn’t deserve me,” you said weakly.
“That’s right, Quinn agreed. “You decide who deserves you. And I think five year old you made the decision that your biological parents don’t the first time they forgot to pick you up from our house.”
“I always liked it better there.”
Quinn kisses the top of your head, “We liked it better when you were there. We worried when you weren’t.”
At some point during your breakdown, you had laid down in Quinn’s lap. You slowly sat up and turned slightly to dive into Trevor’s chest. You wrapped your arms around his waist and he pulled your legs over so that you were sitting between his legs, turning you towards Quinn so that you could see him and he could still place his hand on you. Trevor put his arms around you and started to stroke your hair while his cheek rested on top of your head.
“You deserve me,” Trevor whispered. “You deserve everything and I plan to give it to you.”
“You already have,” you told him, hugging him tighter.
“Then I’ll give you everything and more. And I’ll tell you every day that you deserve me. And Quinn. And Jack. And Luke, Cole, Alex, Jamie, Ellen, Jim, all our teammates, and every single hockey player that you’ve deemed your son.”
Trevor’s words brought more cries from you, but in a good way this time. Quinn lifted your legs and scooted closer to Trevor so that he could lay your legs across his lap. You kept one arm tightly around Trevor, but you held your other hand out for Quinn to hold.
Quinn grabbed it and squeezed it gently, “I’ve never met anyone more loved than you.”
“You’d probably explode with any more love,” Trevor quipped. He smiled when he got a small chuckle out of you. He always knew when it was okay to lightly joke to help get you feeling better. You love that about him.
“Quinn?”
“Yeah, Sissy?”
“I know I originally asked you to walk me down the aisle, but would you be offended if I asked Jim to?”
Quinn broke out into a smile at your question.
“Not at all. I think it’s a great idea,” he answered.
“How about you officiate us?” Trevor suggested. “And I’ll finally cave and let Y/N have Cole as her Man of Honor instead.”
“I’d be honored,” Quinn said.
You didn’t say it out loud yet, but something about Trevor asking Quinn’s permission to ask you out on a date and then asking him to marry you two brought you immense joy. It felt like your story together was coming full circle. It was perfect.
You held on to Trevor’s hand as the three of you made your way back downstairs. Everyone’s eyes were immediately directed towards you, all of them filled with either worry or sympathy.
Jack got up off the couch and walked over to you, “Want a hug? Or do you want Trevor?”
You gave your brother a soft smile and wrapped your arm that wasn’t attached to Trevor around his waist. Jack’s arms slid around your shoulders as he held you in a firm hug.
“How do you want to ask this?” Trevor asked you.
“Ask what?” Cole asked. “Are you eloping? Are you asking for permission to elope?”
“No, dumbass,” you laughed lightly. “We do have something to ask of you, though. You and um… Dad.”
The room stilled. It had been addressed multiple times that Quinn was walking you down the aisle.
Cole and Jim moved so that they were sitting next to each other on the couch; you and Trevor took a seat on the ottoman.
You turned your attention to Jim, “I’ve already talked to Quinn, and he’s not offended or anything. But Trevor and I— well, I guess mainly me, decided to ask if you’d like to walk me down the aisle instead? You’ve been a dad to me for almost all my life. Not just a father, but a dad, too. And I’d—“
You started to get choked up. Everyone now knew what you were going to ask, but it was clear that you wanted to get it out. Trevor rubbed your back for some encouragement and to help calm you.
“I’d like you to walk me down the aisle,” you said.
Ellen was crying, and Jim had the happiest face on him that you’ve ever seen.
He took your hands in his as his eyes started to water a bit as well, “I’d like nothing more.”
You got up and hugged him, really hugged him. Quinn means so much to you, but you weren’t really sure why you didn’t go with the most obvious and important father figure in your life in the beginning of planning. Hell, you’ve been calling him “dad” since you were in middle school and really started to understand things about life.
You wiped some tears as you pulled away and forced out a fake laugh to shake off some of the intense emotions you were still feeling. You sat back down and faced Cole this time to ask him your next question.
“I know Trevor and I originally asked you to marry us, but since Quinn isn’t walking me anymore, Trevor had the idea of him marrying us instead. He asked Quinn’s permission to date me in the first place, which obviously later turned into us being boyfriend and girlfriend, so I thought it was a perfect idea that he’d be the one making us husband and wife.
“I was originally going to ask Taryn, but I haven’t yet so she doesn’t even have to know. So, Cole?”
“Yes?” he smiled. He knew what was coming.
“Would you be my Man of Honor?”
Cole dived towards you and tackled you into a hug, “I would be HONORED to be your Man of Honor, best friend number two!”
You let out a real laugh as Cole snuggled himself against you even harder to where his face was practically making a permanent indent in the ottoman cushion.
“Alright! Tell me how you really feel,” you teased.
“Nothing else has changed, right?” Jack asked. “I’m still one of Trevor’s best men?”
“Yeah, bud,” Trevor assured him. “I’ve got my groom party set in stone.”
You were really happy with your decision. Yeah, sometimes your past comes back to you with a vengeance, but you just have to take a step back and remember all the good that the bad brought.
Your fucked up family brought you a real family.
A family that every one of your school classmates thought you were apart of anyways.
A family that showed you what a family should be.
A family that showed you what love was.
A family that still shows you what love is.
A family that brought you the love of your life.
A family that brought you the best people in your life.
A family that brought you back to life.
It wasn’t that day, but eventually you were able to listen to Little Bird with a smile. You sing along to it with so much heart and emotion every time; all because of Jim Hughes.
All because of your real dad.
You’ve been a Hughes for seventeen years. And soon, you’ll be Mrs. Zegras-Hughes to finally, legally, solidify that.
You can’t wait.

Interview With a Writer
Tumblr media
Thank you @valeskafics for allowing my self-indulgent series to continue 😆 This story was actually an anon request and I cannot thank them enough for suggesting this wonderful piece!
Here is the masterlist for the other talented writers I have spoken with! If you have any suggestions, please send them over. 💜
Tumblr media
Name: valeskafics
Story: Through One Thousand Worlds and Ten Thousand Lifetimes
Paring: Aemond Targaryen, Osferth, Tom Bennett, Billy Washington, Ettore x Reader
WARNINGS: See each chapter for individual, more precise warnings. Written for a female reader.
So, when did you start writing?
I’ve been writing fic since I was in 5th grade. I only started publishing it during COVID. My first fic I ever posted was a Robb Stark/OC SMAU, but the first one I ever WROTE was a ridiculously out of pocket Draco x Veela!OC fic where the Jonas Brothers show up for some reason.
Tumblr media
What inspired the plot for Through One Thousand Worlds and Ten Thousand Lifetimes?
My friend, Yeni (@connorsui), was talking to me about a oneshot I had just written and mentioned that she always imagined my oneshots as being connected. She said she imagined that somehow, Aemond and Reader always manage to find each other, no matter what universe they're in.
That's what gave me the initial idea for the story, so it was really all thanks to her.
I really enjoyed that the connection between the Ewanverse characters and how they were drawn to her, one way or another.
Yeah, it was kinda hard keeping them similar enough to each other to have them be reincarnations, but also distinct enough that they were still true to the different characters (i.e. Ettore still being a genuinely bad person). It was challenging but so fun!!!!
Was there anything in specific that inspired your Reader portrayal?
I took a bit of inspiration, especially in the Aemond chapters, from the main character in the movie "47 Ronin." The female lead was this young woman who was constantly being torn away from the man she loved (played by our king Keanu), and seeing the way she still clung to the hope of them being together even though it was hopeless just made me think… Wow, I'd really like to write a fic with similar themes. So that definitely was a huge inspiration for the characterization of the Reader.
Tumblr media
The title actually came from a quote from that movie too!
Do you have a favorite chapter?
I think the final chapter (Modern!Aemond) was my favorite because I absolutely love exploring what Aemond would be like in modern times! In this one, I went with him being kind of dorky. While the other chapters were so tragic, I got to add some comedy to that one and kind of make it up to the readers for making them suffer every week.
Did you feel your Reader complemented every reincarnation?
I think she very much was the light to each character’s darkness. Most of the Ewanverse characters are pretty tragic. I think the Reader in each chapter was able to give him happiness and love, where in canon he didn’t really have that opportunity.
Do you think you will add on to this story?
Honestly, most likely not. Since it ends with Reader and Aemond uniting in the afterlife, ready to spend eternity together, adding anything as a sequel would take away from that ending. What I might do is, if Ewan appears in a period piece, add a chapter with Reader and that Ewan character as a reincarnation.
Do you have a personal favorite story you'd like to share?
A personal favorite story of mine is definitely "A Taste of Depravity" by @youraverageaemondsimp. I feel like Cole!Reader who is Rhaenyra's daughter is rare, so it really stuck with me. Also, Mae writes fantastic smut so it sent me to another planet.
Is there another mini-series you might be working on?
I'm currently working on two miniseries for Aemond - one based on "The Lion King 2" where he'll be like Kovu and Reader will be Kiara while the other is based on "The Summer I Turned Pretty", with Aemond playing Conrad's role.
Could we get a sneak peek?
The scent of burning wood and the taste of ash in your mouth pervades your senses as you struggle to breathe, racing through the Kingswood. Your first solo hunt. It took months for Mother to finally agree, and only after you recruited Daemon to your cause. And now, even if you do manage to make it out of this unscathed, you know Mother will likely skin you alive. Perhaps she’ll even send you to the Dreadfort and have you flayed by the Boltons. Shadow rears back when a tree falls in front of the two of you, sending a new wave of flames your way. You fall from her back, your body hitting the grass, fading from consciousness as the sound of her hooves galloping away echoes in your ears. It’s not until the rise and fall of your chest steadies and your eyes flutter shut that he approaches, a smirk on his face at the realization that everything has gone perfectly to plan. He kneels down, brushing your hair off your face, taken aback for a moment at just how different you look from the last time he saw you, all those years ago. When the two of you considered each other friends. He heaves you into his arms, placing you on his own steed, quickly penning a raven and sending it off before riding away with you, back to the Red Keep. Grandsire, The plan has been set into motion. All my best, Aemond

Tomorrow X Together concludes tour with fun, fiery PH concert
Tumblr media
MANILA — The production for Tomorrow X Together’s (TXT) recent concert at the Philippine Arena was nothing short of grand. Pyrotechnics, bursts of confetti and eye-catching backdrops complemented the song-and-dance numbers for a potent feast for the senses.
But more than these embellishments, it was the lighthearted interactions shared by the K-pop stars and their fans that made the concert a truly unforgettable experience.
Donning princely costumes, Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun and Huening Kai kicked off the evening — the final show for their second world tour “Act: Sweet Mirage” — with a “dance break version” of the euphoric disco single “Blue Hour.” The boys spared no time in getting close to the fans, moving towards the B-stage halfway through the song.
“We’re so happy we can spend time with MOA in Bulacan this year following last year’s concert in Manila. Na-miss namin kayo (We missed you),” Beomgyu said, drawing loud cheers from fans called MOA.
He was referring to TXT’s two-night concert at the Mall of Asia Arena last October 2022, which also marked the final stop of the group’s first tour “Act: Lovesick.”
The 26-piece setlist for “Act: Sweet Mirage” incorporated songs that the boys performed in “Act: Lovesick,” but also drew from TXT’s extensive catalog to include newer performances. It also covered all of the tracks from the extended play “The Name Chapter: Temptation,” the group’s only Korean release in between the two world tours.
Tumblr media
After removing their tops onstage to reveal more casual and colorful shirts, the boys continued to dish out fun and catchy tracks, such as “No Rules,” “Cat & Dog” and “9 And Three Quarters (Run Away).”
The group also brought angsty punk and pop-rock offerings “0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You),” “LO$ER=LO♡ER,” and “Dear Sputnik,” and boasted its members’ dreamy vocals in “Anti-Romantic.”
In the genre-shifting “Eternally” — which remained a concert highlight in “Act: Sweet Mirage” despite having been performed in the previous tour — white and blue lights surrounded the boys as they delivered the soothing verses. But the moment the song swerves into its throbbing electro sections, the scene turned just as menacing, amplified by red lights and flames bursting from the stage’s front.
Filipino fans were also treated to a performance of “Do It Like That,” the group’s collaboration single with the Jonas Brothers released just last month.
During the encore, the quintet sang “Blue Spring,” an unreleased song dedicated to MOAs, and capped the show with a surprise performance of fan song “MOA Diary.”
Tumblr media
Fan interactions
The Philippine leg of “Act: Sweet Mirage” — which ran for more than three hours and was produced by Live Nation Philippines — was also a testament of TXT’s growth as entertainers. Compared to the previous concert, the members seemed more confident onstage, not only in their performances but also through their interactions with the crowd.
Concerts have always been a way for K-pop stars to strengthen their bonds with their dedicated fan bases and TXT’s show was no different, featuring engaging talk segments that displayed the boys’ cute and goofy sides.
After “Cat & Dog,” which had the crowd barking, the members gave their own canine impressions. They later whipped out their lightsticks and each took turns in leading the audience to doing playful movements.
Before performing “Happy Fools,” the group also taught the song’s choreography and asked audience members to do the dance challenge, which were flashed on the venue’s big screens.
Tumblr media
The Bulacan show also took place a day (or just mere hours) before Huening Kai marked his 21st birthday. As a surprise, the crowd chanted his name during “Dear Sputnik” and joined his bandmates in singing to him near the end of the concert.
“Actually, it’s on my wishlist, to have my birthday and concert happen on the same day,” Huening Kai said.
‘Beautiful’ last concert
As the night drew to a close, the boys thanked fans for making the final stop of their tour a memorable one. “Thank you so much for decorating our last concert this beautifully and to the point that we were able to finish this concert very well,” Yeonjun said.
“Last year, we were able to receive a lot of comfort and love from you guys. I’m so thankful that even today as well, you were able to give us a lot of comfort and love,” Beomgyu said.
Taehyun said the local crowd was “the best [in] singing, dancing, cheering and screaming for us,” adding that he was already looking forward to the group’s next performance in the country.
“‘Act: Sweet Mirage’ in Bulacan ends here but we will come back [for] MOA again to show you how much we have grown with the love that we received so please wait for us,” Soobin said.

Thundertober Day 14: Submarine
When Gordon was in WASP, he commanded a deep-sea bathyscaphe for a year. This is the story of how that adventure ended, and what it could mean for the aquanaut service.
Continuity: TOS
A/n: References to Stingray abound! ^^ I just couldn't resist… >:3
------
Wake up. Shower. Breakfast. Give orders. Lunch. Give more orders. Dinner. Sleep.
Wake up. Shower. Breakfast. Give orders. Lunch. Give more orders. Dinner. Sleep.
Wake up. Shower. Breakfast. Give orders. Lunch. Give more orders. Dinner. Sleep.
The days were always the same. An everlasting blur of events that Lieutenant Gordon Tracy struggled through just to be able to say he was doing his duty as the Commander of the deep sea bathyscaphe he and his crew were currently on. His year was almost up, just a couple of weeks were left now.
He felt as though the routine was slowly killing him from the inside out, taking his joy and free spirit the longer he sat in his command chair. Gordon loved the sea. More than the average person, and perhaps more than he probably should. But even he was beginning to feel stuck here. He sighed, grateful that all but the night crew were in their cabins, and pulled out a photo he’d taken with his family at Alan’s 16th birthday party. His only younger brother’s face beamed up at him, their three elder brothers looking up in fondness and reassurance.
If there was one thing he loved more than the dark blue waters of the ocean, it was his family. He missed them dearly, and the absence drove him to near insanity. But at the same time thoughts of them, of his father and his brothers, kept him sane. It was an odd paradox, but one Gordon found himself clinging onto.
He clung onto his father and grandmother’s love, both of them tough but fair. He clung onto Scott’s brotherly concern and Virgil’s melodies. He clung onto John’s tales of the great tapestry of stars and planets and Alan’s dreams of glory on the racetrack. Most of all, he clung onto the promise that he’d made to all of them. The promise that he’d come home. And that was what kept him going. Throughout all of this, it came down to them.
The harsh ringing in the corner of his cabin caught him off-guard, almost making him jump and fall out of the bunk. Wondering who could be ringing at this time of night, Gordon clicked select on the video phone. The face of one of his subordinates looked back at him. Gordon resisted the urge to roll his eyes. “What’s wrong, Cadet Peters?” He frowned. “Your shift has been over for two hours. Get to bed.”
The cadet gritted her teeth nervously. “We have a problem, Lieutenant…” Gordon raised an eyebrow, prompting the woman to continue. “We have a breach in the port side of the hull.” Her superior lurched, bursting out of his cabin and into the corridor, heading for the bridge. Gordon thanked their lucky stars that the sub was nowhere near crush depth, having only just dived again after gathering supplies from the land above. The sea wouldn’t crush them, but it would still be their death if they didn’t act fast.
“Lieutenant on the bridge!” He heard as he burst through the double steel doors that separated the submarine's nerve centre from the main corridors.
He quickly barked orders. “Jonas! Give me a damage report!”
Jonas was happy to oblige. “Port side of our hull is badly damaged; near the engine bay. We’re leaking water.”
Another officer yelled. “If we don’t fix this soon we’ll be dead in the water.”
The chaos of the bridge only got larger and louder. “All right!” Gordon yelled out. To his surprise, they all listened without much argument. “Let’s not lose our heads, or we really will be stuck.” He turned to Peters, who’d only just come in. “Cadet, radio the engine bay and tell them to cut all power.” She nodded, rushing off to complete her assigned task. “Jonas. Surface. I don’t care what you have to do to accomplish it, but surface.” He looked at the other officer who had yelled before. “Prepare the lifeboats and be prepared to evacuate once we reach the surface. The rest of you, get ready to run. I need to let Marineville HQ know what’s going on.”
------
‘How was this even possible…?’ Gordon asked over and over again in his head once he and his crew were safe and sound on dry land. It shouldn’t have been possible; that bathyscape had withstood even the toughest of rocks and the roughest of waters during the testing phase. But even then, he supposed there were a lot of things about the sea that humanity knew nothing about, and perhaps never would. It had been one of the reasons he’d agreed to take the position as commander-in-chief of the vessel after all.
A knock on the door interrupted his train of thought. “You okay, Gords?” His younger brother strode into the room, sitting next to him on the bed.
“I’m okay, Al.” Gordon grinned impishly. “I’m still here, aren’t I?” His mind flashed to the day they’d returned to Marineville with the help of a naval ship, weary and tired from days adrift at sea, but otherwise unharmed. The bathyscaphe had sunk, taking all the research they’d made with it. And so close to the end of its trial period, too. Commander Shore hadn’t been happy about the loss, but had acknowledged Gordon’s quick thinking and decision making skills to get everyone out alive. Thanks to him, they hadn’t lost a single aquanaut. “I’m just thinking about how that sub could’ve gotten damaged. We were in open water; no rocks in sight. Weather was optimal. And yet there was a massive hole in the side of the hull.” Alan frowned doubtfully. “Don’t give me that, we all saw it.”
His brother paused before asking the question. “Could you have been attacked?”
“Maybe.” Gordon hummed. “But I doubt it. Our sonar didn’t pick up anything like another submersible… Guess it’s about time to switch to that new hydrophone technology the boffins have been bragging about.” He mused, huffing, and flopped backwards onto his bed. The thought that someone, or something, had attacked them sent shivers down his spine.
The two brothers sat in silence for a good few minutes, just enjoying each other's company for a brief moment. “We were really worried when we heard what had happened from Marineville, you know. For two days, none of us had any idea if you were safe…”
“Let me guess,” Gordon started, “don’t do it again?” Alan nodded furiously, and his brother shook his head in turn. “You know it doesn’t just work like that, Al. Not after what happened to Scott in Bereznik.” His eyes drooped apologetically at the words. Everyone hated remembering that time period, and they all made sure to never even say the name of the country in front of their eldest brother. “Military life is dangerous.”
Alan sighed. “I know. I just wish none of us had to deal with it…”
Gordon sat up from his position and wrapped an arm around his brother, pulling the aspiring motorist into a hug. “Hey, it’ll work out. We’ll all be okay. You know nothing can keep us down for long.”

It doesn't work, and only dumb Joe and Jonas brothers fans go for it. I think that articles like Joe is a good father and Sophie is a bad mother is a continuation of Joe's smear campaign, he pays for such articles. And all adequate people, who are more, know that Joe is a bad father and a terrible person and that Sophie is a very wonderful mother and a amazing person. I also wish Sophie happiness and I want articles about Sophie to be about her new projects and how talented she is, and not about her personal life. I hate Joe that she and her daughters have to go through this.
Those tabloids (the sun, daily mail, just jared) are pretty sexist. They only care about money. They post the worst things possible and very well know people will continue to click on their articles.
I'm glad that didn't work at all and that the serious newpaper started defending her almost immediately...

TIMING: Current LOCATION: A Latte to Love PARTIES: Lil @the-lil-exorcist and Leticia @rhythmicmeow SUMMARY: Leticia meets up with Lil to discuss a radio ad for The Bread Cemetery. CONTENT WARNINGS: none
Lil wasn’t exactly sure if she was the best person to start helping with the advertising of the bakery, knowing that generally she didn’t seem to be able to take it with the sincerity of her brother and mother. Still, while she liked being somewhat goofy, she didn’t want to cause harm to the business either. After all, Jonas loved it here and she owed it to him to make it successful, if only because he followed her out of this town without a second word.
So, despite herself, she decided to call back the person who had offered to advertise the bakery on the radio. After all, she seemed sincere enough and it would mean that Jonas wouldn’t have to work so hard on social media. So, when Lil saw the other she waved and said, “Oh - Hey Leticia over here.” The cafe was small, but she figured that if she wanted to surprise Jonas she probably shouldn’t have the conversation at the bakery.
“Thanks for returning my call,” Lil continued with a smile. “And sorry for the secondary location, we just don’t have a lot of seat space in the bakery.”
_
Leticia hadn't had to worry about making a first impression in years. At least not in a professional setting. As a musician, she had already made her debut. People already had opinions of her and how she dressed wasn't going to influence that opinion. But here? Building a new brand from the ground up in a town where she was keeping her head down about her past? She couldn't fall back into her comfortable habits. Three changes of clothes before the meeting and she still wasn't satisfied, but as time slipped away from her, the time for second guessing was over.
Nervousness hummed in her veins, a gentle pounding that was slowly turning into adrenaline. Leticia held her breath for a moment, her hand on the door to the cafe. It'd pass, she told herself. With a comfortable smile on her face, she opened the door, making eye contact with Lil almost immediately.
"I'm glad you called," Leticia offered, taking a seat across from Lil. "Though I was hoping to take a treat home from the bakery, for business purposes of course - but I don't mind." A degree of separation wasn't the strangest thing. Especially if Lil wasn't entirely sold. "How much thought have you given advertising?"
_
Lil smiled at the other, feeling that she wasn’t exactly the best person to make a good impression of the bakery, but knowing that it was her chance to at least try. After all, her mom had said most people liked it when you tried. So she was going to try.
Still, after a moment Lil thought that there was something odd happening the hairs sticking up slightly on the back of her neck as she repressed the urge to look for a spirit in the room. It was just a moment though, as Lil focused back on Leticia. After all, whatever spirit there was Lil didn’t have to deal with it now. She’d either figure it out later, or honestly they could be fine on their own. She just hoped they wouldn’t do something to ruin the meeting.
“No problem - oh I did bring some for you to try. I figured if you all were going to make an ad you should at least try some,” Lil said with a chuckle glad that her forethought was good. Carefully opening her bag she was happy that none of it seemed to have gotten jostled. “I also have to be honest - I wasn’t quite sure how to advertise the bakery. I have some of the adverts my mom made for it awhile ago that could help, but I’ve never done something like this.” Lil said, trying to keep herself from rambling, knowing how easy it was for her to do. “How do you all normally advertise?”
_
It was hard to hide the light in Leticia's eyes at the mention of the samples. Holding back from being at the Bread Cemetery had been difficult since her first bite. Leticia had never been one to do anything half-way and that included loving something. It was how she had found success in music, she threw herself into it without a second thought - but here? This was a different kind of business. And enthusiasm like hers could easily be interpreted as pressure. Or manipulation.
The worst part of this job was the salesperson professionalism that had to go with it.
Still, Leticia clapped her hands together, a bright smile on her face that refused to fade as she looked at the goods. "I'm not saying food is my favorite thing, but it's one of the best things." Her eyes lifted from the bag to Lil once more. "I would love to see them." Her face slipped into a more professional, neutral expression. But her tone was softer, wondering if Lil wanted to infuse her business with her mother's - and other questions came to mind too quickly. But she bit her tongue. This was a first meeting, and Leticia needed this contract, so she held back. Didn't over share about her father and how she had modeled her business after his or how much influence he had over her. The relationship between Lil and her mother could have been vastly different - but family was important.
And maybe Leticia was desperate for a connection.
"Normally, I start with this, a consultation and get your expectations and what your thoughts are and hear about your business from your own mouth. Half of sales is the love you put into your work, and I need a taste of that, so to speak," Leticia explained, holding in a laugh. "From here, I'll write out a script and film an advertisement and then let you hear it first before it goes live so that we can make any alterations you might want."
_
Lil couldn’t help the smile that spread across her face when the other seemed to be interested in the samples carefully putting it in front of the other . It wasn’t something that she had made - she was much more likely to burn down a kitchen then make something anyone would want to eat- but she did feel connected to the food. Her mom and brother especially worked hard on the bakery, and she wanted it to succeed. She needed Jonas to have something that was familiar and happy.
Lil nodded and pulled out the adverts that her mom had made to pass on to Letcia, hoping that there was an idea there. “My mom I think got some mock ups for advertisements she might want - I don’t think she ever ended up using them though. Again, I’m not really the brains behind the operation with this but I figured it would be a good place to start.” She’d found them buried in her mom’s office, under carefully filled out divorce papers that Lil had decided not to mention to Jonas. It had felt personal, something that Lil wasn’t supposed to find. She wasn’t quite sure how to feel about it, and at the moment she wasn’t going to.
With the explanation Lil nodded and thought for a moment. “That sounds good - I think that would work really well. Essentially, I thought we could do something about how they were spooky good baked goods.” Lil chuckled a little and shook her head, “But that might be a little -uh cartoony? I guess if you’ll let me babble for a while I might find a better idea? I probably should have written a list.” Lil couldn’t help but feel the red start pricking at her face as she realized she was probably underprepared again. It always seemed to happen when it wasn’t an exorcism that she always was not prepared. “What kind of information do you usually want?”
_
“She never used them?” Leticia questioned as she delicately flipped through the mockups. “Can you tell me more about her?” Pausing a moment, Leticia mentally kicked herself. Parents were often a sore subject, and in Wicked’s Rest, it felt like it was safer to assume that it was. Even Leticia, who had a great relationship with both of her parents, could point out the center of the hole in her chest that grief had caused. “If you want to, of course.”
The awkwardness between them hadn’t quite faded away, but Leticia’s smile warmed as Lil started to give small bits of information, a small taste of the direction she wanted to head in, followed by backtracking. “No - no, I like that. And I think Wicked’s Rest is the perfect place for that kind of brand. I mean, I’m new here, but this place has weird in every shadow. And if that’s the brand direction you want? Commit to it. I think it’d help you stand out.” She tapped her thumb for a moment, running through some phrases in her head, trying to make one work that didn’t cross that line of cartoony.
“Get haunted by flavor at the Bread Cemetery? Lift your spirits at the Bread Cemetery?” Leticia started writing a few notes, only pausing when she glanced up and realized that Lil was embarrassed, the hint of red coming to her cheeks giving her away. “Oh. Oh. No.” Leticia reached across the table towards Lil, not touching her, but hoping to provide some comfort. “It’s okay to make me do that work. It’s sort of my job here.” She hadn’t been in business long, but as a person, it was hard to sit across from someone and pretend that they weren’t bothered. To ignore their troubles and focus on selling them a product? Leticia could never bring herself to have that kind of barrier between herself and the world. “Why don’t you tell me about your favorite thing about the bakery? Don’t think too hard, just, what makes you love that place?”
_
“I don’t think so,” Lil said softly, looking down at the adverts. “Oh sure - She’s a lovely person. Warm and kind. She’d let you talk for hours and sit with her. I don’t think I’ve ever heard her raise her voice.” Lil remembered June for a moment and didn’t quite know how to really explain her mom in a way that made any more sense. She had a calm presence that seemed to make the most unruly persons - or spirits- calm down and sit quietly. While Jacob often raised his voice at Lil, even when June was disappointed she never did. She would just pull her into a hug and tell her that it was going to be okay. Her mom always seemed to know that Lil was trying her best even when it was clumsy. She seemed to understand Lil in a way few people ever bothered too - but Lil didn’t know how to say that. “You would like her. Almost everyone does.”
“I think it would be helpful at least. Our name is Bread Cemetery you know - it’s going to be at least a little weird,” Lil said with a little laugh. After all, it was a strange name even if she couldn’t remember why it was named that way. She’d have to ask her mom once they found her. At the lifting spirits Lil couldn’t help but laugh and say,” That’s great.”
At the question Lil paused for a moment and said softly, “My brother I think. He’s so excited about being back in the bakery and - he really likes baking. My mom taught him everything she knew and he’s really good at it. It makes me happy to see him so calm and being able to be creative. - That’s probably a cheesy answer huh?”
It was true though, Lil wasn’t much of a baker. If she ever had a role as a Ballard it had always been in exorcism, not with the bakery really. She would always come in to cover shifts being a cashier - and often would hide out there when her dad was being especially mean - but she didn’t exactly belong there. It was June and Jonas’s special place, not really hers. She was always welcome, but it wasn’t for her.
_
There was a faint smile at the corner of Leticia’s mouth. The way she spoke about her mother was like coming back home to her own. Was it wrong to want to hear more about Lil’s mother just so she could hold onto that warm feeling for a moment longer? To reminisce without any of the guilt that came with reality? The calm description of Lil’s mother made her compare the two — her own had been so loud. Always yelling and calling her from another room in the house. The energy between the two had been vastly different, but there was comfort in both. “It takes a remarkable person to have that kind of patience. I’m sure I would have.”
It was fun — niche, sure. But it had personality. And there was no doubt in Leticia’s mind that the kids around town would eat it up if they could make a meme out of it. Leticia just had to make sure that it was a meme in good taste and not something like… obsessed girlfriend. “The name is what brought me to you guys in the first place, it’s creative.” And considering her own business was called the Vinyl Countdown? There couldn’t have been a doubt in anyone’s mind that this was her exact brand of fun and weird.
“I’m not here to judge you,” Leticia reminded. “I mean — The Vinyl Countdown? My dad has a place just like it back in California. Grew up in the back room of the shop playing music and having this place is like… having a piece of him with me. Even when he’s not here.” She shrugged. “Cheesy? Maybe. But it matters.” Exhaling, she leaned back in the chair, letting the air between them breathe. “Can I ask one more thing?” Her words were softer now, not wanting to press too hard but unable to let it go. “Why are you invested? Your family aside. What does the Bread Cemetery mean to you?”
_
“Yeah she’s remarkable,” Lil said slightly softly. She loved her mom, and the kindness that seemed to wrap around her like a blanket. She wished more than anything that she was more like her, even if she knew the truth of it was that she was more like her dad than anything else. Still, unlike him she could help keep people like her mom from feeling bad at least. “She’s really pretty too. I think part of it was just the kindness you know?”
Lil chuckled and said, “I appreciate that. I’m sure there was a reason for the name, but for the life of me I can’t remember why. My mom’s sense of humor is all like that though, and I don’t doubt  that comes through my family.” After all, despite most things the Ballards weren’t known for being particularly serious - well most of them weren’t. In a lot of ways a family that is involved with death couldn’t keep the deadly seriousness expected of them in other areas of their lives.
“Fair enough - oh you own that place? It’s super cool,” Lil said, her eyes lighting up at the mention of the vinyl store. Lil wasn’t much of a collector but she loved looking through the store when she had time. At the rest of her statement Lil nodded slightly, realizing a bit too late that meant that Leticia’s father was probably dead. She hoped that she didn’t make the other too sad. She nodded at the change of direction, although at the question she didn’t quite know what to say.
After all, most of what Lil did was for her family, at least partially. She left partially to get Jonas out from under Jacob’s thumb. She became an exorcist because it was expected of her. She came back because her family needed her. Sure some of her choices seemed to be opposed to that - but there was always an undercurrent of it being for her family. It made her somewhat uncomfortable to think of anything else, but she tried too. “I guess it’s the closest feeling I have to home. Most of my favorite memories took place there, and I want to protect it. If we get a good amount of business that means that it’ll stay there for a long time and other people might think of it fondly like I do.” Lil said trying to place feelings - a thing she was never truly good at doing. “I don’t know if that’s different really than it being important to my family, but - if I can help keep it running then that’s what I’m always going to do. ”
With that, Lil thought that she did find out what she really wanted. She wanted to make sure the bakery was safe because it would make Jonas happy, and it would mean that when her family came back they’d still have it. She was hardly an entrepreneur, but she was a protector - even for something as seemingly silly as a bakery.
_
Leticia couldn’t help but laugh. The way that Lil described her mother was familiar in a way that left Leticia envious. She had always been close to her own family, but her mother had been the distant one while her father had been the one that pushed her into the public and wanted her to see the world in ways that her mother’s family had been scared to do. The story was one that Leticia had only heard in snippets and in arguments—mostly around the time that Leticia had signed her contract. “Actions speak louder than words, that’s the saying. I’m sure it helped.” Conventional attraction was nice, but some things were better.
“Well, if you ever learn the story, I want to hear it. Sounds like it would be a fun one.” It might not help them create a decent advertisement, but Leticia loved knowing things. And stories like these always warmed the heart. “Yeah. We opened up a few months ago. I had a booth soundproofed in there too for the radio.” The questions stopped as Lil started to describe what the establishment meant to her, and the smile on Leticia’s face was less the practiced one that she used to something softer. It was her home and she wanted to protect it. Leticia could relate to that. Wanting to spread those good memories to others so that it would live on when she wasn’t there to run it anymore? Leticia could relate to that too.
Writing down a few more notes, Leticia felt like she had a good feel for who Lil was and the business. It might not have been the most conventional method, but the things she loved about businesses that she frequented weren’t what they sold, but the people who were there. The food, in this case, would always be wonderful, but people made it special. And if the others working at the Bread Cemetery were anything like Lil, it was a special place. “Thank you,” she finally said, looking up from her work. “I know it was an odd question. But I think I have a few ideas now.”
_
“Yeah, I think it did. She’s really good at little actions,” Lil said, her hand now actually going to her necklace - even though her dad always taught her not to touch it. She didn’t mind if Leticia knew where it was after all - she doubted that the other would even know what it was and even then Lil thought she was kind enough not to use that. At the statement Lil laughed and said, “Absolutely I will. I’m sure it's a pretty silly reason, just knowing her. And that’s awesome.”
At the thanks Lil blinked, not feeling like she actually had answered the question and being slightly shocked that she didn’t say don’t thank her. After all, she was hardly the important person in the bakery. It wasn’t a place for her really, but maybe that was something Leticia could sense. Lil didn’t want to argue though so she nodded and said, “Glad I could help. - Uh Is there anything else that you need?”  She wasn’t sure what else she could do, but also did enjoy the others presence and didn’t want to rush back to regular life either.
-
Watching Lil touch the necklace she wore, Leticia silently wondered if it was something that her mother had given her. She hoped her assumption was right, if nothing else than to have just one more thing in common with her. The bracelet on her wrist was supposed to protect her, but she had no idea the meaning behind what Lil wore. Maybe it was the same, just framed differently for different cultures? “I really hope you find the story, she sounds like she’d certainly make it a fun one.”
Closing her notes, Leticia shook her head and offered the other a warm smile. “I think that’s all I need for the ad.” Lil had given her a lot to work with, but the spirit was all written on paper. “But thank you for this,” she said, leaning into the table slightly. “And for the pastries. I’m going to have to fight off my staff to make sure I at least get a bite. They love the shop.”

I do want Jonas back but I feel like the mechanics of bringing vin back would be more complicated—vision tried to bring back viv and it went awry, if vin came back there would be no real reason not to bring Virginia back and I can’t see that happening.
If they do ever bring vin back I kind of feel like he should be more or less a civilian (he didn’t strike me as the superhero type). I think he should be viv’s younger brother now (I imagine Viv was designed to age and I really want them to address twins becoming different ages by virtue of one being dead for a substantial amount of time since it happens so often)
I do desperately want to see Viv’s interactions with jonas and her living brothers (Billy and Tommy were officially classed as such in her pride data page which is great but can we see that?) maybe a reconciliation with Victor
Yeah, I mean, Vin and Virginia's deaths have more narrative importance. They were probably always intended to die, and their continued absence is necessary to maintain a certain status quo with those characters who survived them-- especially Virginia's. Compare that to Cassie and Jonas dying at the end of CC-- the emotional fallout got solved pretty quickly, and Cassie was back in less than two years. Jonas's continued absence doesn't actually serve any purpose, and it's been a decade. I figure, next time there's any kind of Young Avengers story, there's not reason not to bring him back.
I'm not trying to litigate the choices that Tom King made with Vision, because that would be a much longer conversation, but I understand why, in the context of that book, it was necessary for some characters to die. That said... Victor is already back, and neither Viv nor her father are in the same dire positions that King left them in, so I think you could get away with, you know, easing up on the tragedy a little. I don't know, in general I do think that more deaths should be permanent, and stories need to have longer lasting consequences, but Vision was just really grim and punishing, and I just really want Viv to be happy.
Tumblr media
It's a little unclear, but Cassie and Kristoff Vernhard may or may not have recovered Jonas's AI from Iron Lad at the end of Oliveira's run on Voices Infinity. Theoretically, he is back, he just needs a new body-- he's saved in that little gauntlet Kristoff is wearing ^

why do u think bts cover up and act less sexy than other groups. do they not have to to get fans or are they afraid of the fans they have
I think it has to do with the continuing decrease of the target demographic's age for bts. as much as ppl are gonna come into my inbox like "oh but I'm 28 and I love bts! my doctor who is 40 is an army!" the average demographic age for the bts fandom is literally tweens.
this didn't use to be the case but now the majority of the international fandom is literally made up of 8-13 year olds which is the biggest up and coming target demographic for brand positioning across all entertainment based industries. fucking mark zuckerberg is pacing around the meta headquarters making everyone come up with ways to target and sell things to the 8 to 13 year olds. they're proven to be the most profitable and untapped market and have a steady source of disposable income in the form of their parents.
and you can go out to any mall or middle school today and ask a 12 year old girl if they like bts and chances are they will say yes. hybe knows this and they know if they play their cards right they will have this tween market on lock for good - it's the reason for the shift in public image for bts since 2019. boy with luv was a definite change in their previous concepts even for "cute" or happy go lucky concepts tried before and everything that's happened since then is meant to make them look like a cookie cutter pg-13 friendly kids bop group. this is the reason why they don't whore it up and almost never show skin to the point of actively censoring any nipples and slivers of tummy with - you guessed it - cartoon characters designed mainly for school supplies and stuffed animals
the bts brand currently is akin to disney. you never saw the Jonas brothers or selena gomez or the hsm cast be anything but family friendly until they left disney. the only thing bts is missing is purity rings

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
"With the kids jingle belling and everyone telling you 'Be of good cheer!'" - Andy Williams 🔔
So, who still uses Tumblr these days?
Apparently I do. It's 'cause this is my only personal blog page still existing. I have a devotional blog. Just wanna plug that 'cause Jesus deserves it.
Speaking of the Lord, it's His time of the year. For Christians, the rest of their lives is God's, but for most of the world, December 25 is His day.
This year, to save me from tears… Sorry. The sentence started with "This year," so I had to continue the lyrics. OK, so this year, I'm writing a blog entry here on Tumblr as my birthday gift to Jesus and my Christmas gift to the world. I actually planned to record myself singing a Christmas song while playing the piano, but we couldn't find our webcam. It has a good video quality and a very capable mic, and with it, I can shoot from an angle I want, so I couldn't film without it.
So here we are in Tumblr, and it's fitting because this is a throwback post. I was reminiscing on what I've been doing for Christmas through the years beside the gift giving to classmates and teachers as a student and the festive family dinners. What I was thinking about was the things I do, like a Christmas project of my own. I had to go back to my saved files of my deleted Facebook account that got hacked. Then I thought I could go further back to the very first blog I had because I had those posts saved too. The blogs were removed and, unfortunately, the site was shut down in 2021.
Let me take you to a walk down my memory lane of Christmas projects.
It was the year 2007. I wanted to know about the episodes of Disney's The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and poof! I discovered TV.com, a website like IMDB where there are forums and users can blog. I started blogging, and I made some online friends.
Here was my Christmas post there. It's a poem.
"My Christmas Gift For You"
Happy Christmas This poem's for you Though it may not last These words stay true
This Christmas season Let us commemorate For the real reason It's Jesus Christ that we celebrate
He came to this world with humility He said goodbye to save our sins He'll come again for all humanity That's what Christmas means
I just want to give you something In a way that is different I chose to do this rhyming I hope you like this simple present
I can't give expensive things But I can still share what I have I share my blessings I spread the love
I was 14 years old when I wrote this. I think I didn't make it clear enough that Jesus' goodbye there was when He died on the cross, not when He ascended to heaven.
The next year, I made a picture greeting. I had to recreate it because the image in the saved file has watermarks.
Tumblr media
Counterclockwise from the top left, that's Aly & AJ's Christmas album, the main cast of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Jessica Simpson's Rejoyce Christmas album, and of course, the Jonas Brothers.
In 2009, celebrities joined Twitter, so I did too. I connected my Twitter and Facebook accounts so that my tweets get posted on FB as well.
I tweeted one of my favorite Christmas songs. (How do we say that for X now? I x'd 💀) That Twitter account got suspended, so I generated this picture. I got the tweet from the FB posts saved.
Tumblr media
In 2011, we had this laptop where you can draw on the screen, so I made the 5 squares you see here that are made digitally. The other 4 are drawn on paper.
Tumblr media
2013 was the year I started writing many poems throughout the year, so, naturally, my Christmas greeting was another poem.
Tumblr media
2014 had a miserable Christmas for me because I had school on Christmas day. We were in the Middle East.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I got severely depressed in 2015, so I wasn't using social media. But, of course, I still celebrated it with my family.
In 2016, my FB got hacked. That's why all the FB post pics above are just generated images.
I made a comeback in 2017.
Tumblr media
In 2018, my family was all together in our Church's multi-generational choir. Obviously, this isn't a personal project, but I want to include it here anyway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That year, I also started playing Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
Tumblr media
Our last Christmas in Bahrain was in 2019. It was our last time singing with the choir as a family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2020 was our comeback to our home country, and after we got settled in our new house, COVID-19 was a widespread pandemic. It was a year of playing video games, making YouTube videos, and watching TikToks.
The posts below are from my Instagram. That's why there are hashtags.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2021 was a year of productivity. I released music videos of songs I composed and produced, started my Bible devotional blog, and joined a Bible study group.
youtube
I made this vid using Animal Crossing. This song's Phil Wickham's, not mine.
Tumblr media
This is a screenshot of this blog post.
In November of 2022, God granted my desire to buy myself a piano.
youtube
There weren't any more new updates for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, so my greeting for 2022 was from its ever-updated mobile game.
Tumblr media
This year 2023, Blackpink released its mobile game, so here's my greeting:
Tumblr media
I thought I would just be looking back at Christmases, but it turned out to be looking back at my life. The Lord has been truly faithful. He keeps on sustaining me and my loved ones. I'm just glad the world recognizes this holiday where we can all celebrate love, which they may not fully understand it's of God. We enjoy the season together whether it's through music, gaming, or even literature like poetry or books, which I haven't done yet, but I just recently finished listening to the audiobook of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Now it has become a new dream of mine to publish a Christmas book.
So, I ended up sharing myself. But what I want you to see is how Christ is the most important that I make effort every December to do something special.
"For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
- Isaiah 9:6, NJKV
A blessed Noël to us all!
With sugar plum love, Celine ❤️

Do It Like That, the Summer Smash TOMORROW X TOGETHER Brought

Meaning Behind the Collaboration of TOMORROW X TOGETHER and Jonas Brothers
2023.07.08
In early June a soundless video snippet was released in which we see Ryan Tedder and TOMORROW X TOGETHER in a studio listening to what we can guess is a new track. Ryan Tedder is known as OneRepublic’s lead singer, but he is equally famous in the industry – perhaps even more so – as a producer and songwriter.
He contributed to Beyoncé’s “Halo” and Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love,” and he already has under his belt three Grammy Awards for Album of the Year for his work on “21” and “25” from Adele, and Taylor Swift’s “1989”. A few days ahead of that clip being posted, Tedder had teased on his Twitter account with a selfie at TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s US concert with the jesting text “Joining @TXT_members ??” One could sense from the tweet that his familiarity with the group was too great for this to be a simple shout-out. Indeed, that video clip itself had been captioned with “A big one is coming”, and we most certainly got that.
By mid June, TOMORROW X TOGETHER posted a group photo by a pool with the caption reading, “We go Together”. It’s clearly designed to remind us of the cover art of the album “Happiness Begins” released by Jonas Brothers in 2019, as was the text which happens to be the opening line to their hit song, “Sucker”. And what do you know, it also happens to have been written by Ryan Tedder. Finally, on June 22, TOMORROW X TOGETHER and Jonas Brothers officially announced their collaboration project “Do It Like That” which will be released on July 7.
Jonas Brothers is one of the most successful boy bands of the past two decades. It is not an overstatement to declare this quite a singular feat, especially for an American boy band. Their longevity and continued new music releases to this day since 2005 – despite disbanding and reuniting in between– is another uncommon feat. From 2007 to 2009, the band appeared mainly on the Disney Channel and solidified their position as the unquestionable heartthrob for teens and enjoyed some of their most glittering years during this time. The members went on to pursue solo careers for about a decade after which the brothers at last found their collective adult identity as a pop rock band. Their being family might be brought up to downplay their success as a group, but maintaining the band as teenage idol musicians and consistently evolving over time is no small feat.
One of the biggest contributing factors of this successful artistic reinvention is “Sucker”. Not only did it make its debut at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, but it remains their sole single to have reached that pinnacle to this day. What’s even more remarkable is it held its position in the top 10 until August, earning itself the accolade of being one of the “Songs of The Summer” in 2019, alongside Post Malone’s “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse).” While the title “Songs of the Summer” may not be an official concept, it holds significant weight in the industry. With summer traditionally being the season with much family time – especially outdoor activities – it’s the perfect season for music to become embedded in our collective memories and transcend time and space. Summer anthems become global megahits dominating airwaves everywhere and very likely go on to become still-beloved golden classics. We all know how “Livin’ La Vida Loca” returns every summer.
In fact, Billboard has been running a “Songs Of The Summer” chart since 2010. In the most recent years, “Sucker” still reigned as one of the most successful summer songs. Along with the likes of “Peaches”, “Levitating”, and “As It Was”, for the foreseeable future we are going to hear “Sucker” during the heatwave months on beaches, by pools, and in shopping malls and cafés.
youtube
The meeting of TOMORROW X TOGETHER and Jonas Brothers for “Do It Like That” takes place like some learning-by-osmosis for a still fresh boy band that only debuted in 2019. “Do It Like That” has all the makings of a summer hit such as its danceable rhythm that’s bouncy yet chill, a hook that sinks in quick to reel you in fast, and chill and relatable lyrics. TOMORROW X TOGETHER is certainly one of the more successful K-Pop acts performing today, but adding to their loyal teen audience, acquiring universal appeal, and getting significant radio play are not easy tasks for any artist. “Do It Like That” presents an opportunity to clear all these challenges in one go. It’s especially apropos for TOMORROW X TOGETHER this summer as they gear up to make their summer festival rounds where a song like this really adds to their arsenal as a number that can get people vibing immediately regardless of whose fans happen to be in the crowd.
As for the Jonas Brothers themselves, they have a massive 37-date North American tour planned. “Do It Like That” can be a nice follow-up to “Sucker” as it brings fresh blood to the group’s summer song catalog, especially since the song will bring in the broader K-Pop listenership. That is why the recent social media activity from the Jonas Brothers such as their “Excuse me BRUHH” TikTok with TOMORROW X TOGETHER that reenacts that meme-able moment from the film “Zoolander” and the adoption of a K-Pop industry move of releasing “concept photo” as part of their promotional material, all appear to be much more than just spur-of-the moment online humor. In short, “Do It Like That” is a definitive snapshot of how K-Pop’s most recent forays into the US market have evolved. It has a better understanding of what comprises the market's essence. With this insight, their moves are much more calibrated, thereby yielding opportunities for a mutually beneficial collaboration within the ecosystem. It’s a deft mix of the team’s musical color and K-Pop’s commercial cachet. This masterful positioning was also on display in last summer’s collaboration with iann dior who provided a direct line to the musical sensibilities of Gen Z, and now this summer TOMORROW X TOGETHER is aiming for the charts with Jonas Brothers. You don’t get to see a band like this every day.
