Release: November 6, 1982
Lyrics:
Give me time to realize my crime
Let me love and steal
I have danced inside your eyes
How can I be real?
Do you really want to hurt me?
Do you really want to make me cry?
Precious kisses, words that burn me
Lovers never ask you why
In my heart the fire is burning
Choose my color, find a star
Precious people always tell me
That's a step, a step too far
Do you really want to hurt me?
Do you really want to make me cry?
Do you really want to hurt me?
Do you really want to make me cry?
Words are few I have spoken
I could waste a thousand years
Wrapped in sorrow, words are token
Come inside and catch my tears
You've been talking but believe me
If it's true you do not know
This boy loves without a reason
I'm prepared to let you go
If it's love you want from me
Then take it away
Everything's not what you see
It's over again
Do you really want to hurt me?
Do you really want to make me cry?
Do you really want to hurt me?
Do you really want to make me cry?
Songwriter:
Do you really want to hurt me?
Do you really want to make me cry?
Do you really want to hurt me?
Do you really want to make me cry?
Do you really want to hurt me?
Do you really want to make me cry?
George Alan O'Dowd / Jonathan Aubrey Moss / Michael Emile Craig / Roy Ernest Hay
SongFacts:
"Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" is a song written and performed by English new wave band Culture Club. Released as a single from the group's platinum-selling debut album, 'Kissing to Be Clever' (1982), it was the band's first UK No. 1 hit. In the United States, the single was released in November 1982 and also became a hit, reaching No. 2 for three weeks.
"Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" was the third single released in Europe by Culture Club and their debut release in the United States and Canada. The song became a UK No. 1 single for three weeks in 1982. It entered the American Pop chart the week ending 4 December 1982, hit No. 1 in Cash Box magazine, and held at No. 2 for three weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in March and April 1983 (kept from the No. 1 spot by the massive success of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean"). The single hit No. 1 in Canada. It was also number one in Australia.
This was Culture Club's first major success, after their first two releases at the Virgin Records label, "White Boy" and "I'm Afraid of Me", charted lower in the UK at No. 114 and No. 100 respectively. Producer Steve Levine later said: "We felt very strongly that we had a great track with 'Do You Really Want to Hurt Me' and Virgin agreed."
Within a few days of "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" being released, David Hamilton on BBC Radio 2 played the song as his record of the week. The song rose rapidly in the UK charts after the group's first appearance on Top of the Pops, which resulted in Boy George's androgynous style of dress and sexual ambiguity making newspaper headlines. The group were only asked to appear on Top of the Pops the night before the show, after Shakin' Stevens pulled out.
In a retrospective review, Allmusic described "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" as "a simple masterpiece, resonating with an ache that harked back to the classic torch songs of yesteryear."
In 2007, Boy George said that the song was "not just about Culture Club's drummer Jon Moss, my boyfriend at the time. It was about all the guys I dated at that time in my life."
The accompanying music video for the song, directed by Julien Temple, featured lead singer Boy George on trial in a courtroom (filmed in Islington Town Hall Council Chamber), with flashbacks to the Gargoyle Club, Soho in 1936 and the Dolphin Square Health Club, Pimlico in 1957. Some scenes were filmed at the Hornsey Road swimming baths in Islington, which later closed in 1991. The jury was in blackface making jazz hands gestures. One band member, Mikey Craig, was not in the video, and was replaced by his brother Greg.

Robin Buckley x Nancy Wheeler Ronance Background Steddie Words: 6886
Robin Buckley was fully aware of how she acted when she had a crush. She knew , okay. She knew. Lucky for her, Nancy Wheeler didn’t know how Robin acted when she had a crush. If Nancy had known, Robin was sure she would have avoided Robin like the plague.
Unlucky for Robin, Steve Harrington did know how she acted when she had a crush.
“You know,” Steve leaned against the counter with a look that made Robin want to turn tail and run out of Family Video, but Steve was her ride home. Robin walked away from him before he could finish his thought. Running away was usually a good option, in her experience.
It was a slow night - of course it was, most things had been pretty slow since “the earthquake”. Nancy had been their only customer since Robin had gotten in three hours ago - half of Hawkins had packed up and left the town. It had been three weeks since the world had literally cracked open and destroyed half the town, two since they (Nancy and Dustin, mostly) had figured out a way to block the gates without completely closing them so they could still kill Vecna, ten days since El had absolutely demolished Vecna/Henry/One.
They were all still nursing injuries from the fight. Max was still in the hospital, but at least she was awake. The moment El had eviscerated Vecna, she had woken up. Eddie had been released from the hospital the day after the battle and had been removed from the persons of interest list for the murders well before that.
In fact, Eddie and his uncle had been quietly moved into a small house in Robin’s neighborhood, a small token of gratitude from the government for not going public with, well,  everything. She and Steve stopped by most nights after work. Sometimes they’d watch a movie, others they’d just pop in to say hi.
Steve hopped the counter and landed gracefully despite his broken arm and cracked ribs, the bastard. Robin couldn’t make that jump smoothly on a good day, let alone with all the bruises she was nursing.
“Leave me alone,” Robin huffed, putting The Goonies on a shelf haphazardly, trying to avoid Steve’s gaze.
“You know,” Steve ignored her, “Nancy and Jonathan broke-up.”
Robin tried her best to keep her face blank, but it must not have worked from the grin Steve shot her. She turned away from him and prayed a customer would come in, preferably a hot one to distract Steve.
“Why would I care about that?”
“Because,” Steve put his hands on her shoulders, the plaster of the cast was heavy on her shoulder, “You’re very clearly into her.”
“We’re all very aware that Nancy Wheeler is into guys, Steve,” Robin huffed, “And if you haven’t noticed, I am not one.”
“Well, excuse me for knowing that bisexuality is a thing,” Steve gave Robin a look, “Like David Bowie.”
“David Bowie! Steve, you can’t assume Nancy is!”

Miami Dolphins Zach Attack Thomas Shirt
Top Miami Dolphins Zach Attack Thomas Shirt
#Teechallaclothing LLC Kendall Jenner takes naked dressing into brave new territory with her latest outfit. The supermodel wore a David Koma dress, pulled from the Miami Dolphins Zach Attack Thomas Shirt and by the same token and British designer’s fall 2023 collection, that features illusion mesh on its upper half and playful red flowers smack dab in a prime (and oft controversial) anatomical position. While the pasties were certainly eye catching, the most unexpected part of the outfit was the long modish scarf around Jenner’s neck. And víola! The peak 2023 “naked dressing” trend meets Audrey Hepburn circa 1961. The mish mash of aesthetics makes perfect sense for Jenner, who often alternates seamlessly between understated minimalism and bold of the moment dressing. The star, like numerous other celebrities, has been on a bit of exhibitionist streak as of late. For her Met Gala after party look, Jenner donned a sheer dress and exposed underwear worn over the ensemble. With her latest nude but not look, the star harnesses the power of illusion. At first glance, it seems as if she is wearing a corset or Skims esque bodysuit with pasties. But her look is actually a shoulderless dress, with masterfully cut mesh.
Tumblr media
#Teechallaclothing LLC That the Miami Dolphins Zach Attack Thomas Shirt and by the same token and dress comes with a bit of Audrey Hepburn flavor should come as no surprise to true Jenner fans. The model has repeatedly referenced the late icon through her fashion, strolling around Paris in a little black dress, head scarf, and big sunglasses in March. And for her 2021 Met Gala look, crafted by Matthew M. Williams at Givenchy, the star paid homage to Hepburn’s star turn role in My Fair Lady. In many ways, Jenner’s approach to style is much like her David Koma dress. There’s a lot more to it than what immediately hits the eye. Shop more naked dresses, below. This week in fashion, standout IG posters illustrated the power of anything goes fashion. A tuxedo paired with gold grills? In the world of designer Riccardo Tisci, this coupling masterfully marries rough and tumble with formality. Model Kyle Gayle, a.k.a. @reallydoedusty, made a long sleeved latex top, a Goofy tee, a propeller hat, and a furry bag look like the perfect dinner outfit. While Laverne Cox, who recently celebrated her 51st birthday, wore a 2001 John Galliano era Dior with 1985 Manfred Thierry Muglery, showing that a fabulous vintage get up does not have to be constrained to a singular decade. There were also unapologetically high glam moments. Notably, Bones and All star Taylor Russell delivered bonafide razzle dazzle in a Jonathan Anderson at Loewe design. The glittering look matched the rising star’s undisputable shine.

Microsoft says compromise of its engineer's account led to Chinese hack of US officials
Therecently disclosed Chinese hack of senior officials at the U.S. State and Commerce departments stemmed from the compromise of a Microsoft engineer's corporate account, Microsoft Corp MSFT.O said in a blog post on Wednesday.
Tumblr media
Microsoft said the engineer's account had been penetrated by a hacking group it dubs Storm-0558, which is alleged to have stolen hundreds of thousands of emails from top American officials including Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, U.S. Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns and Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia Daniel Kritenbrink.
The blog post addressed some unanswered questions around the incident, which drew fresh scrutiny to Microsoft's security and led to calls to investigate the company's practices.
Notably, the post explained how hackers were able to extract a cryptographic key from the engineer's account and use it to access email accounts that it should not have given them access to.
Microsoft said it had fixed the flaws that led to the key being accessible from the unidentified engineer's account which gave the hackers such wide latitude to steal emails. A Microsoft representative said the engineer's account had been hit using "token-stealing malware" but did not provide further detail about the incident or its timing.
The Chinese Embassy in Washington did not immediately return an email. Beijing has previously described the allegation that it stole emails from top U.S. officials as "groundless narratives."

Today's compilation:
Your Favorite Songs 1991 Pop/ Traditional Pop / Ballad / Adult Contemporary / Synthpop / Country / Soft Rock
Well, that's a pretty fuckin' presumptuous thing to call your album there, Curb Records! Here's a seemingly random smattering of 12 songs that I don't think literally anyone would ever consider to be their faves. Yeah, sure, we have "Unchained Melody" and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," which are both, of course, fine to put on an album that's called Your Favorite Songs; but neither of those are actually the original versions! "Unchained Melody" is just this re-recording that's glaringly without the captivating Phil Spector Wall of Sound production quality that made the first one so good, and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" isn't the super famous one by The Tokens, either. It's a version by singer Robert John, but not his very popular rendition that hit #3 on Billboard's Hot 100 in 1971; instead, it's this weird and rudimentary 80s dance mix monstrosity!
youtube
No one in their right mind would ever consider this song to be a favorite!
And some more of this nonsense: back in 1971, a group called The Congregation covered UK pop duo David and Jonathan's 1967 song, "Softly Whispering I Love You," and that cover version turned out to be a big hit in a lot of places across the globe, including the US, where it went to #29 on the Hot 100. But guess who else covered it? A pop music choir called the Mike Curb Congregation, which was assembled by none other than Curb Records' own chairman, Mike Curb. Now, to their credit, the Mike Curb Congregation wasn't just a one-off project; they released a bunch of albums that were filled with covers of a lot of different hits. But it's so obvious what they were trying to pull here when they chose to include a version of a song that had already been famously done by a different group with a *very* similar-sounding name to their own on this album! Like, you could've included literally any other Mike Curb Congregation song, but you went with this one that had already been done by The Congregation themselves, clearly in an attempt to trick people into thinking that they were purchasing The Congregation's hit version instead. And the deceit there is just so clever that it ought to be commended, honestly. I guess there's a reason why this guy was such a big record executive, huh? 🙄

1 Chronicles 7. "The Scarlet Worm."
Tumblr media
Issachar "The Hired Man."
Since societies form around central fires (or the "purifying light" of wisdom, which is where the metaphor comes from), the noun אש ('esh), fire, may also derive from this verb.
7 The sons of Issachar:
Tola, Puah, Jashub and Shimron—four in all.
Tola=A judge, the "Scarlet Worm" - more on this below
Puah=
The verb יפע (yapa') means to shine or radiate (specifically of theophanies). Noun יפעה (yip'a) means brightness or splendor.
Jashub= "To be seated. To achieve Shabbat."
Verb ישב (yashab) means to sit (the act which occurs precisely in between a person's descent and ascent) or to remain or dwell (in between traveling to and from some place). Nouns שבת (shebet) and מושב (moshab) mean both seat or dwelling place. Noun תושב (toshab) means sojourner.
The verb שבת (shabbat) means to rest or cease activity, and the familiar noun שבת (shabbat) means a rest or stoppage. Noun שבת (shebbet) means cessation and is closely similar to the noun שבת (shebet), meaning seat, mentioned above. Noun משבת (mishbat) also means cessation. Denominative verb שבת (shabat) means to keep the Sabbath and the noun שבתון (shabbaton) denotes a sabbatical observance.
Shimron=
The verb שמר (shamar) means to guard or to exercise great care over. Noun שמרה (shomra) means guard. Noun שמר (shimmur) means night watch. Noun אשמורה ('ashmura) or אשמרת ('ashmoret) refers to the night watch as unit of time. Noun משמר (mishmar) describes the "place or agent" of guarding, which may come down to either a prison or a guard, but it may also describe the keeping on some religious observances or something like that. Noun משמרת (mishmeret), literally meaning "with the function of watching," used in the sense of a charge or obligation; an official function of guarding. Noun שמרה (shemura) describes an eyelid.
2 The sons of Tola:
Uzzi, Rephaiah, Jeriel, Jahmai, Ibsam and Samuel—heads of their families. During the reign of David, the descendants of Tola listed as fighting men in their genealogy numbered 22,600.
Uzzi=strength, fierceness
Rephaiah=healing that comes down
Jeriel=Yah sees
ראה
The verb ראה (ra'a) means to see, and by extension to understand. It may mean to become visible (of, say, an angel) or to become understandable (of, say, a theory). Noun ראה (ro'eh) means either seer, or prophetic vision, and noun מראה (mar'a) means either vision as means of revelation, or mirror. Nouns ראית (re'ut) and ראות (re'ut) mean a looking. Nouns ראי (ro'i) and מראה (mar'eh) mean sight or appearance. Adjective ראה (ra'eh) means seeing.
Jahmai=Yah will surround
Ibsam= to smell sweet, to be a perfumer
בשם
The meaning of the unused verb בשם (basam) is unknown but it possibly meant to smell pleasant. Its sole extant derivative is the noun בשם (basam), which describes spice or balsam, or their signature sweet smell. These commodities in turn served as tokens or even units of wealth. And since they were produced via painstaking purification, they also denoted purity and cleanness.
Samuel="Has heard the name of God."
David's Reign=
Through might, fierceness and fabulousness, David is able to marry into the Royal Family of Israel by wooing Prince Jonathan, "Yah Natan" derived from:
נתן
The shape-shifting verb נתן (natan) means to give in a broad bouquet of senses, from regular giving or bestowing, to setting or putting, to transforming one thing or situation into another.
This verb's three nouns מתן (mattan), מתנה (mattana) and מתת (mattat) all mean gift, again broadly ranging from a regular present to an offering to an innate talent (being "gifted").
When David overcame Goliath in battle and was brought to King Saul’s palace to be rewarded, he met Jonathan, the son of King Saul, for the first time. At that moment, their love and respect for each other was first founded: “When [David] finished speaking with Saul, Jonathan’s soul became bound up with the soul of David; Jonathan loved David as himself.”10
This bond between the two proved itself, even in the most difficult of times. Later on, King Saul began to fear that David wanted his throne and sought to kill him. Despite knowing that David posed a potential threat to his place in line to the crown, Jonathan loved David and protected him from his father’s attempts to have him killed.
This example of how "Yah surrounds" via the story of this microscopic little affair that turned into one of history's biggest explains how the appearance of nobility in one instance means it can be mirrored by everyone all around the world by everyone in every nation at all times.
All one has to do is look for it and then follow its example. The inverse, a god or a king with a reputation for abuse has the opposite effect, found in this section's gematria.
22,600=
"An Evil God is a namesake disorder, one that will send you to hell and tell you to be grateful for it. He will suck the life out of you."
If we follow the thread of the "fire in the hire", the conclusion one must draw is if you "hire" a king or a president, life will descend into hell.
To see, and by extension to understand means, to invoke the angels, makes life beautiful instead.
3 The son of Uzzi:
Izrahiah=
זרח
The verb זרח (zarah) means to break out or arise, and may describe the breaking out of leprosy, to the rising of the sun, to an outburst of joy or glory.
Noun זרח (zerah) means a dawning. Noun אזרח ('ezrah) describes a native (one who locally arose). Noun מזרח (mizrah) literally means place of rising, which is the east.
The sons of Izrahiah:
Michael, Obadiah, Joel and Ishiah. All five of them were chiefs. 4 According to their family genealogy, they had 36,000 men ready for battle, for they had many wives and children.
Michael= Who is like God?
Obadiah= to serve the Divine Name.
עבד
The verb עבד ('abad) means to work or serve, and the noun עבד ('ebed) denotes someone who works: from a slave to a hired expert. The Greek equivalent of this noun is δουλος (doulos).
Joel= "Yah is El", Yahweh Is Elohim, or The Lord Is God
Ishiah= "husband who is employed by Yah."
There's only a small difference between the words אישי (ishi) and בעלי (ba'ali) as both are used to mean my husband. But (ba'ali) is more an authoritative title; it may also mean my master or my lord. The word (ishi) simply means my man, which may denote one's equal husband or a man one has employed.
36,000= "Without honesty, you are doomed. You cannot fix a universe that lies. Gender is a lie. I Believe That An Unbiased Non Manipulated And Unanimous Win Through Voting Can Turn Opinion Into Fact."
5 The relatives who were fighting men belonging to all the clans of Issachar, as listed in their genealogy, were 87,000 in all.
Tola, the Scarlet Worm, is the Fire of Truth that secures righteous judgment in all we do. The term is cohort to Issachar, the "Hired Man" meaning, the men God wants hired for positions of importance, including as His friends as husbandmen must be bound by this Scarlet Rope, the fire of science to what is grounded and real:
The Color Red
Rabbi Chaim Elazar Spira of Munkács, known as the Minchat Elazar (b. 1868), records a custom to carry a red cloth or similar red item to ward off ayin hara. He explains that different colors represent different Divine attributes, and red represents gevurah (stringency and judgment), which is sometimes linked with negative spiritual energy.
Thus, by having the red item, one can overcome an ayin hara, beating evil at its own game.1 Note that he makes no mention of bracelets or strings, and there’s good reason for that.
Red is also associated with Adam, "ruddy" and Edom, "Commitment" and the use of red threads and ropes in the temple. Tola, the Red Worm, is also identified with virile member of the man of nobility as his penis, upon which we depend to keep the world free of louts.

The estate of David Bowie is starting an NFT art sale to raise money for an international charity for people in need that is run by his widow. Nine digital artists, including one of Pussy Riot's singers, have made tributes to the late singer that will be sold on September 13. The show is called "Bowie on the Blockchain." "100% of the profits to the Bowie Estate will go to CARE," his estate said. His ex-wife Iman is a global advocate for CARE. It said about the project in an announcement on Tuesday (06.09.22): "In keeping with a legacy that has included redefining the parameters of live performance and gender roles in popular music, pioneering methods of digital distribution and online community building, and always supporting new and undiscovered artists and technologies, David Bowie's everlasting influence will impact yet another new frontier." OpenSea's Ryan Foutty said, "David Bowie is an icon and a pioneer in every way, and we're proud to work with his team… This amazing collection brings together some of the most innovative NFT artists and Bowie artifacts to bring a new generation of fans together in web 3 (the idea of token-based web trading). Andrew Keller, co-founder of the project's partner We Love The Arts, said, "This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to work with the Bowie estate and this group of artists, all of whom I have a lot of respect for. "I hope that this collection will both capture the spirit of "Bowie on the Blockchain" and bring attention to a group of artists with a lot of talent and an exciting new space for the arts." David died of liver cancer in 2016 at the age of 69. He is survived by his wife, the model Iman, who is 67, and their two children. Defaced, FEWOCIOUS, Glam Beckett, JAKE, Jonathan Wolfe, Lirona, Nadya Tolokonnikova (from the Russian protest group Pussy Riot), Osinachi, Young and Sick, and Jonathan Wolfe are all artists who are working on the "Bowie on the Blockchain" project. Nadya, who is 32 years old, said that David had a big impact on her life and work. She said, "David Bowie is my Platonic ideal of an artist. He is charismatic, passionate, creative, and magnetic as hell. He always puts art, curiosity, and subversion over profit. He is a magician and a muse." I'm amazed, and I always will be. David Bowie is my dad." It's not the first time that Bowie content has been traded as NFTs. Photos and unheard audio have also been put online before. https://nftdawn.io/david-bowies-estate-launching-nft-art-sale-for-charity/?feed_id=1978&_unique_id=631832ebd3d28

Sorry I had to go looking through old emails to find the lists sent to me, the fiction section is my personal rec list of books I'm reading and authors I love. I always always insist anyone who wants to write Indigenous characters in their stories need to read Indigenous authors. Not just to show support, but you’ll not find a better teacher on ensuring you're not falling into racist tropes and tokenizing your characters than by surrounding yourself with beloved stories and characters from that demographic.
For non fiction I've separated culture, language, and lore from the ones that focus on regions, historical events, wars, and people.
I know I'm missing books, but I was sent a lot of recs in private messages I can't track down. Generally if you see a book by these three authors they are the #1 recommended resource from everyone I've spoken with.
C.A. Weslager
Anthony F.C. Wallace
Paul A. W. Wallace
Some of these books are very old so they'll have dated terminology, be out of print, and can be expensive (Red Men on the Brandywine goes for over $200) so I have not been able to read everything on this list. I know there are more than a few with ebooks available through libraries, and some ebooks. My goal is to one day have all these books as PDFs, even if I have to buy and scan them myself.
