Hello there!

I am participating in the "a mag a day" idea by @a-mag-a-day which is BRILLIANT and I decided to do "statement a week", rolling dice with the characters and fears that were ftw that week in the episodes I have listened.

For today I rolled Archivist!Grifter's Bone (don't judge me, the dices SPOKE) and The Desolation (Eps. 39-43).

As usual, please do forgive my quick tipper and non-native speaker mistakes, Marla

 Fellow musicians, dear fans, naïve newcomers…Welcome all to our first and last concert in the City of Lights!

 We are Grifter’s Bone and we are very pleased indeed to be able to tell you the story of two lovers we have… observed very closely in recent times and how its downfall came to be.

 The end is near, are you ready to face your fears?

Martin Blackwood had always lived in the shadow of his mother. Not because she was someone especially relevant and (or) remarkable in any aspect imaginable, but because she managed to control and manipulate him at her will with the sole power of verbal violence and their unbalanced interpersonal dynamics.

She constantly insisted she didn’t truly need him, corrupting his soul by making him feel extremely useful while blaming on him even the slightest of mishaps, magnifying them up to the point he began to question whether he had genuinely made an unwilling mistake or if part of him truly wanted to hurt his mother.

 So he stayed, and stayed, trying to find a love that had never been there. Pretending comments about his body where just misguided worry, the ones about his lack of occupation a badly put critic on their country’s lack of jobs and the ones that were so bitterly yelled that some words were not even discernible…just due to her illness.

Because, apart from a terrible person, Martin Blackwood’s mother was physically sick. Some might argue (and not without reason) that it was partially her fault, since she had refused to go to a doctor for her entire adult life (likely the reason our hero had always walked with a discreet limp, since her mania had been forced since birth into her offspring). However, Martin would never see it that way (he’d rather have a nice lie), so he just worried more and more about her.

To receive nothing but harm, harm so intense he felt his own foundations burn to the ground (once or twice a bit more literally than he would have liked, but that’s a story for another day).

Before his nineteenth birthday, as much as his life was rather intolerable, that rather was still a major component of said definition (there were still some salvable elements in there). Then, thanks to the magic of self-discovering and externally-supplied testosterone, Martin started to look more and more like a paler, ever so slightly sickly (thanks to his absolutely lack of any money that didn’t go towards his mother’s well-being) version of his father. Alas, his mother became even more of a monster in whatever was referred to her only son.

It didn’t work as you might think, though, for this only made Martin tried harder with her; reaching the point to convince himself the one time he almost asphyxiated due to someone leaving a fire burning in the leaving room with the door opened just so the heavily poisonous smoke would reach the inside of his bedroom had been just a silly accident.

No matter how much he cried, how much everything inside him stop working properly due to the sheer disgust shown by her, no matter how much he took care of her for absolutely nothing but harmful comments…he forced himself to still believe, deep inside, she loved him just as much as he should…as he did.

Then, he met Jonny-boy.

He would have hated being called so, good thing he is pushing daisies now. Jonathan Sims was a journalist and editor who sort of hated open-mics and, still, got to go to one rather frequently due to his position on a quite poorly managed local paper.

 The first step on the way my future career.

Now, Jon had also a lot of self-denial deep inside of him and toxic cicling behaviours he created for himself, but those are topics for another day. The point, though, in this story is how he managed to meet Martin in one of these open-mics and…almost murdered him.

His poetry was bad, his manners too distant yet too sweet for his taste and he managed to feel incompetent even in holding a meat fork. And Jon wasn’t one of those people who keep things for themselves. So he told Martin all of these opinions and more.

However, as the murderous desires decreased, they found each other enjoying their new-found friend companionship.

As time went by, their friendship evolve into something more, something they were almost ready to put a name to. Something that was healing both of them. Martin’s eyes now revealed that the building within them was starting to be rebuilt, the chaos far gone. There was no more destruction; just growth, just hope.

His mother, obviously, noticed how her fiery comments, how her smashing remarks left almost no mark on her son, on her caretaker, on her only connection to the Real World as her health state worsened and going out had become an impossible tact.

What’s more, Martin had started neglecting her. Only in very small, almost unnoticeable details but, compared to the perfectly arranged life he had always made for her, it was a rather huge change. Especially since now she had no option but to admit that Martin’s care was actually extremely valuable to her.

She might have survived all this, maybe even made it feasible for Martin to pay another person to take care of her partially without the not-so-silent-threat of trying to destroy them as people in the process.

Still, it was something her pride could simply not let go.

The next time she tried to throw down Martin, after he had decided to try and bake something for him and Jon with zero experience on the matter, he just smiled sadly and said he simply just hoped she would one day understand her hatred was a one-way street (not as he still believed, deep inside, their fraternal love was).

She could almost hear the lack of crumbling down inner-constructions. It made no sense! Martin was a weakling, not any different for what his father had been, and the later had lasted barely a decade living with her before he was nothing but human-shaped ashes.

Just as she had always wished that being to end.

Therefore, she decided that, if the insides of Martin Blackwood could not be broken, his outsides would.

That is why, one night Martin and Jon were dreaming with a world in which worms were even deadlier than in ours, holding so tight to each other that they had become one unique creature, she took a lighter with her and, thinking about how Martin was nothing but a burden thrown to her, she threw it switched on at the door and, against all laws of nature, it ignited the whole building.

When the fire finally died, there was only one survivor.

Martin Blackwood woke up to the ashes of who had been the love of his life (in every universe) and, just as far as he believed the entryway was, her mother’s corpse.

His skin was untouched and he began weeping tears so hot a sauna would be jealous. Those tears corroded his skin, leaving two perpendicular scars at each side of his face.

His mother had spent her entire existence trying to throw him down, to make him become nothing but the rubble of a person she reckoned shouldn’t have existed in the first place.

Now, she was gone and there was nothing for him but to prove his mother wrong, to deny in the biggest measure possible the uselessness she had always attributed him. And he knew the way to do it, appealing to a very special part of myself. The one only Jon had managed to temporarily shut down: he wasn’t the one to be broken anymore; he was the one to break everything.

 And so it concludes the tale of how Martin Blackwood came to be feared as no-one since Saint Agnes had been. We would love to stay but, as you are well aware, we must go in the look of more stories to archive just to show to audiences as loyal and kind as you.

 Now, remember, the lighters are at the entrance.

 Make good use of them.

So in love with the idea that very few of the ghosts actually want to attack or hurt anyone and are kind of their as glorified personal trainers for Danny.

Like this newly formed half-ghost child is insanely powerful and no one understands why but what they DO know it that ghosts shouldn't go withhout using their powers for very long or it causes problems so they all show up to Amity to cause problems so that Phantom has a way to actually use and train with his ghost powers and release energy before he explodes or something.

And all his villains are so tired like god damn the kid has a new power one of you go handle it.

And after he defeats Pariah Dark and is technically in line to be the new Ghost King when he dies, his villains become INVESTED in making sure he lives as long as physically possible because no one knows how an untrained, over powered teenager is going to use the powers that seemingly show up at random.

And it is BECAUSE he is a child that they don't use his civilian identity against him because come on the kid does not need us outing him to his parents when they might KILL HIM (yes I'm aware they wouldn't but the ghosts don't know that)

I've seen this or a version of this covered in a BUNCH of fics (can't remember which ones so if you do feel free to mention them)

Idk just, the concep of Ghost Children being valued and protected as well as Phantom's Rogues Gallery just being there to make sure his powers don't blow his city off the map

No but like one of the BEST tropes in fanfiction is definitely "local Hero's community definitely knows their identity but refuse to say anything" it's hilarious. Particularly when the hero is young, like Danny Phantom or Spiderman or Merlin.

This is ESPECIALLY true when the characters kinda just come together to make life easier for the hero

Like Amity Park having collective amnesia over anything Phantom related whenever the GIW come around, or the residents of Queens learning self defence so they can handle some petty crime so that Spiderman has time to actually do his homework, or servants and knights in Camelot making up excuses for Merlin or taking over some chores so he doesn't get in trouble

Any attempt to out the hero is quashed immediately on pain of total social ostracisation

Just give me people protecting the local teenage hero because god damn it he's doing good and he doesn't deserve all the shit he's getting

1. tell his parents about his horror podcast and be completely comfortable with them knowing all about it and listening to it all the way

2. ask them to be ACTORS IN IT! LIKE OH MY GOSH

3. have their characters verbally assault the character that he named after himself and not like, worry that’s going to do something to him psychologically by like, dredging up bad memories.

for the fanfic ask game: F, G, K, and R maybe?

F: well it said a snippet of one of my favorite dialogue scenes but. i'm just going to use this as an excuse to share a deleted scene that didn't make it into the final fic, but i'm reaalllllly proud of.

“Don’t. Fucking. Touch me,” Elle growled, stance shifting defensively. “My apologies. I won’t.” Elle watched her then a little longer, like a cornered pokemon. Cyllene stepped back, folding her arms behind her back and staring impassively. “I get to choose whether I forgive you. Not you,” the girl snarled, voice shaking. “You don’t get to force me to hug it out and make it all better. You don’t get to touch me without my consent. You don’t get to control me. This is your first, and only warning.” “I understand,” Cyllene said. Then, quieter, “I truly am sorry, but words are cheap from the mouth of one you do not trust. So I will prove myself by action.” “Okay. Thank you.” Just a flicker of an expression crossed her face, then the sky-faller was gone.

This scene is like. GAH. So much righteous anger, and it hammers home one of the major points of Elle's character-- that all her life, touch has been used as a tool to manipulate her, and even if the touch isn't sexual in nature, her consent still matters and she's not going to take shit from anyone anymore.

G: Ah, yeah... Well! I write very much out of order. Skipping around and moving with the motivation, then filling in later, works best for me. I also have an odd little habit where I'll churn out dialogue, then go back and add tags for it. I guess dialogue is easiest for me? I imagine the back and forth, and then I turn it into prose later.

K: Ohhhhh boy..... the angstiest idea I've ever had. Listen I was an edgy child when I started out. I was going through it and consider it kind of an edgelord thing, because yeah while I wrote some deathfics they were more shocking than interesting. In more recent times....hm. Unsure what you would consider angst? I have a Fucked Up AU with some friends where a character gets uh. well they get cursed, then arrested, then restrained and gaslit a whole bunch while their blood is being stolen, then kidnapped and used as a blood bank while their medication is being witheld to keep them compliant, then their parents show up and they might get concussed and then they're almost buried alive. By said parents.

R: Any writers I consider an influence.... hm. Well, say what you will about jk rowling's abyssmal worldbuilding, use of sketchy tropes, and transphobic rhetoric, and you'd be absolutely right, but I do like her flow and pacing. There's also @highabovethecloudssomewhere, who hasn't been active in a while as far as I know, but her works hold very fond memories for me, as does the community formed around them. And then, of course, Leslie Feinberg and Stone Butch Blues. I aspire to that level of poetry, because dear fucking god that shit was raw and Jess was a very heavy inspiration for Hilda from Reshiram's Perdition. Kafka Asagiri's Bungou Stray Dogs, for the literary references and deeply fascinating takes on the cycle of abuse, as well as. Well. Atsushi my beloved catboy, may he please get some fucking therapy he literally has C-PTSD. Oh! And @collabwithmyself has influenced my writing and worldviews lately-- namely, i've picked up a few tropes from him. Weight gain as a form of healing and catboys/catgirls as a metaphor for neurodivergency my beloved! Oh, and I absolutely picked up my enjoyment of horror from the magnus archives, so i suppose jonny sims? seems like he grew disaffected with the work near the end, but i really hope he's doing okay and grows to love it again, flaws and all.

there's a lot of pheris being distraught by noise and disorder and movement and touch. he liked watching the order of the servants and the bees back at the villa. that's all I'm saying. idk.

gen sees earrings and that Activates Interest, no mask can keep that excitement hidden. heiro is so funny and a good friend.

his family aggressively trying to trick and politick gen into self-care.

they're his family, I just realized. wife and cousins, now that sophos has married helen. sophos was his family in affection before, but now he is legally as well I'm emotions.

"there were eleven, a frustrating number" hmmm. the whole thing with the orange. hmmmm.

"smacking people will not persuade them" idk it worked for gen in KoA.

1. coffee mugs, teacups, wine glasses, water bottles, or soda cans?

Coffee/tea cups! I love collecting them and I have twenty five different cups. My favourite is my Steven Universe and my alpaca one!

8. movies or tv shows?

Mostly tv shows because I love more content and if I don't like the movie then it's harder for me to sit through it but I still wanna, you know? And second seasons will always be better than sequels.

6. pastel, boho, tomboy, preppy, goth, grunge, formal or sportswear?

I would say Tomboy? I wear a lot of shirts and hoodies and I don't have the emotional or mental strength to make enough effort to dress nice enough for grunge or pastel styles and I'd rather be in my pajaymas. My favourite item of clothing is a giant cat sweater I got from Japan that goes to my knees that's super fluffy and has paw coverings over my hands and even a tail with it.

17. most frequently worn pair of shoes?

My trainers since I hate new shoes and I literally wore my last pair until water filled them sksksk it's either boots or trainers that I don't stop wearing.

18. ideal weather?

Thunderstorms! I love sitting inside with the rain pounding against my window and I always get excited when I hear thunder and see lighting out in the distance.

21. obsession from childhood?

You already know about MLP so,,,winnie the pooh. I love it. I'm so soft for Winnie and I cried when his movie came out, not to mention the fact that I own my prized Winnie the Pooh Tsum Tsum and kept all of my childhood books of him.

35. average time you fall asleep?

2am? I stay up to chat to everyone and in my worse nights when I'm really into a thread idea or I can't sleep then I'll stay up until 4am. Quarantine has made that habit much worse seeing as I don't have to get to much.

40. weirdest thing to ever happen at your school?

A student poured white board cleaner into my nineth English teacher's drink and she had to get her stomach pumped.

47. favorite type of cheese?

Mild cheddar! I'm sensitive to foods and also I'm that kid who if hungry and alone, I'd eat an entire block of cheese.

55. favorite fairy tale?

Little red riding hood! My dad used to tell me it and then have the big bad wolf eat everyone in the end because I always like him the most XD

60. if you were a character in an anime, what kind of anime would you want it to be?

O hh!! A classic Japanese school dorms and I'm the classical daydreaming student but soon there begins a series or supernatural events and I'm left in the centre of it as i increasingly wake up in odd places with torn clothes and....boy, I sure hope that's ketchup spilled on me....

62. seven characters you relate to?

1: Tulip from Infintiy train - we had the same situation with our parents and it was...nice to see someone deal with parents that don't care for each other anymore and it's nice to see it thought out carefully.

2: Steven from SU - Particularly in SuF. I'm rather calm for the most part and my parents often ranted about their problems to me and I felt like I had to take care of it. I don't get angry all that often but when I do it tends to be very explosive and I felt a lot like a monster as kid. Especially with his schools treated me by putting me outside or in an empty room for a few hours alone.

3: Coraline - The mother thing is obvious but we're also both very sarcastic and would absolutely love dancing rats and would absolutely go down a magic chimney for a magical world. Also talking cats!!

4: I feel like I need to include a ghibli character like @awkward-snake-girl did! So Haru from Cat returns - Both messes and we both like the idea of being able to nap all day as well as regretting somethings we could have done. The only difference is that I'm not a coward and I'd absolutely marry a cat.

5: Jaskier from the Witcher - Sometimes you just wanna go on adventures and write songs about the super ripped hot guy and I think that was pretty neat of Jaskier to follow his dreams for.

6: Sokka from Atla - Yeah absolutely vibes. We're the jokes and meat guys because I'm hysterical and I literally eat nothing but meat because I'm a carnivore apparently. The idiot of the group yet the one with the most common sense? At least online vs real life because I'm stuck with my mum who doesn't think dinosaurs existed and my friends over who was sexier; Pennywise or Ronald McDonald.

7: Jonathan Sims from Tma baby!!! I cannot say ENOUGH how thrilled I am to have actual ace representation that isn't a side character or a character that's often written as robotic or childish? A lot of ace people are expected to have no emotion or to not be ready for an adult spectrum of emotion (actually said to me once) so it was SO refreshing to have someone who's written out more than those two boxes! Plus Jonny allows everyone to explore the spectrum of asexualtiy with Jon so I get my repulsed Jon aND my sex positive Jon! Also horror podcast hnnng RIP to Jon but I would gave taken up those eyes baby.

Sakura sauce on Macdonald's. Oh my God don't put flowers on your macs.

Mythology! There's so much exciting details in those and I'm always amazed that once people worshipped these gods.

I wish I didn't cry so easily.

Autumn! My birthday is in it and usually it's a nice mix of warm and cold enough that I can wear sweaters, not to mention Halloween is fun to look at, even if we don't celebrate it much in England.

are you staying home from work/school?

yup! classes have been online since spring break three weeks ago, which i am not having fun with because you Cannot do orchestra over zoom and i am a Music Major. I Need My Rehearsals. i miss my practise rooms, rip. also i have issues with auditory processing and online classes do Not help that at All, so that’s been a thing.

if you’re staying home, who’s there with you?

i’m home w my parents, three of my siblings, and my grandma (whom i had to kidnap on my way home from college)

are you a homebody?

i really am. the only thing i don’t like about quarantine is that i can’t go to the gym or the library, haha.

what movies have you watched recently? what shows are you watching?

i’ve been watching prodigal son! love that trauma baby. beautiful boy. let him rest. and the last movie i watched was what we do in the shadows (because jonny sims recommended it on a twitch stream.)

an event that you were looking forward to that got cancelled?

yeahhh i was supposed to speak on a panel at school about Being Gay a couple weeks ago and it was cancelled. my college is a p conservative christian college so it really was a Big Deal that they were having an Official Event where queer students could share their experiences n stuff. i’m sad about it.

what music are you listening to?

uhhhhhh does the opening theme of the magnus archives count?? been listening to myself practice mendelssohn and bach. idk man i don’t actually listen to a lot of music ^^;

what are you reading?

a HECK-ton of fanfiction, and also the thing itself by adam roberts, which is weird and fun.

what are you doing for self care?

taking walks in the woods behind my house and listening to the birds sing.
