i can understand jaime/cersei vs jaime/brienne shipwars but jonerys vs jonsa vs jonyra????? people just really wanna fuck jon 😭
I don't? He's sixteen and terse, ffs. He's a tolerable kid to me. The text just happens to heavily hint that he's going to be in epic reciprocated pseudo-incestuous love with my blorbo.
Others disagree. If you're talking canon speculation (as opposed to mere media enjoyment), questions like these are epic arbiters of the fundamental meaning of the text. People have been burned at the stake for less.
Also, cut the general fandom some slack.
The kid is one of the few main male characters who aren't actively misogynistic, already spoken for, and confident enough to invoke interest beyond wanting to cover him in a security blanket (unlike Samwell Tarly). He even has some romantic notions. Yes, he's the most popular male character to ship with anyone, obviously.
That doesn't mean everyone is personally thirsting over Teen Lord of the Beets, Protector of the Scowl.

It’s interesting how Dany is the most iconic ASOIAF character, but Jonerys is the only popular ship involving her. Sansa is passed around like a blunt, Jonerys, Jonsas and Jonyras (?) are constantly at each other's throats, even Jaime has people fighting over who should he end up with!
yeah, the tyrion/dany shippers need to step up and gain some ground :P
in all seriousness, i think it's because they both expect dany to achieve the highest rung in westerosi society (i.e. queendom) AND there's no erasing jon from the narrative without some great injustice, since he has been presented very much as a boy hero. so a natural and more acceptable resolution to that conflict would be to marry them instead of having dany kill him, which would prove hugely unpopular and hard to justify even for targstans.
i'm v curious whether grrm ever planned for these two characters to have romantic undertones. if he did, i'm sure he would do it better than the show, where it was absolutely goofy, but i don't think it will be endgame

Do you think it's possible Sansa decision to spill the beans about Jon's parentage on the show comes from the books, foreshadowed by Jon and Arya's "Don't tell Sansa!"? I think it's possible several of the plot beats in the final episodes did come from GRRM (i.e., Sansa spills the secret, Dany dies, the Starks are separated as Bran becomes king and Jon goes back to the Wall), just not in the way he planned since D&D decided to neglect Arya. None of the Starks being together at the end of the series stands out to me the most, as the script for the last episode states during their goodbyes that it'll be the last time he'll ever see Arya and implies it'll be hard for him to forgive Sansa.
If this is the case I think it probably would've fit better once upon a time with romantic!Jonyra, ultimately because I feel like GRRM would've had one last twist up his sleeve to separate them rather than a straightforward romantic ending; Jon's parentage being both something that should've allowed them to be together but also has to be kept a secret for plot reasons and thus leading to a bittersweet parting where they can't be together. Unfortunately I think D&D wrecked the ending by completely ignoring the importance of Jon and Arya's relationship, romantic or platonic.
I will only say, that everything post season 5 on the show is D&D's version of the story and is show only canon with no resemblance to the books. From GRRM's various interviews outlined here, it's clear that he thinks the show went in a completely differerent direction and should be viewed separately as show canon and not book canon.
Is it possible that Jon and Sansa will clash over Winterfell in TWoW or ADoS? Yes, and it's possible that when that happens in the books it will be organically written because of the set up for these characters rather than the utter garbage we got on the show.
IMO, the 'Don't tell Sansa' between Jon and Arya is simply foreshadowing for the readers about Sansa being a tattletale and her actions towards the end of AGoT where she lets Cersei in on all of Ned's plans to get the girls out of KL.
And later it’s Arya once again who thinks of ‘Don’t tell Sansa’ when she remembers home and family. Sansa’s tattling of Ned’s plans for getting the girls out of KL had big consequences for Arya. Instead of being on a ship to Winterfell, she ended up having to escape by herself and be on the run from the Lannisters.
And as GRRM says, Sansa’s actions are partially responsible for Ned’s execution. GRRM has also mentioned the sisters having deep issues to resolve. So if anything I think the ‘Don’t tell Sansa’ aspect is more relevant to the resolution of the Arya/Sansa relationship than anything to do with Jon.

What do you think of j/onsa?
A very, very strong NOTP. If I’m totally honest though, the shippers bother me more than the ship itself does. Most J*nsa fans I’ve interacted with on Tumblr are hell-bent on hating Dany and Jonerys. Often, they also extend their hatred to Arya and Jonyra. J*nsa fans make it hard for me to like Sansa anymore, because they absolve her of all her flaws and make her out to be some sort of purity queen, which I can’t stand at all.
The J*nsa community is toxic as hell and I try to stay away from the ship and its shippers with a 10-foot pole.

Jonyra shippers during season 8: BOOK CANON!!!!!???? Sansa is STEALING HER PLOT.

One thing that I dislike about the Jonsa community are the section of shippers who think Sansa should raise Jon and Dany’s Targaryen Incest Baby (TIB)... because why?
It’s very much a re-telling of Jon’s story. Jon and Sansa as Ned and Cat, TIB as Jon, Daenerys as Secret Dead Parent. I can see why they think it should happen- Sansa needs to pay for... what, exactly?
If the idea of the trope is for Sansa to redeem her own behaviour towards Jon during their childhood, surely the fact that you ship them together should be enough to assume that Sansa has ‘redeemed’ herself. There’s no logical reason to bring a baby into this.
Or maybe it’s paying for Cat’s treatment? You know, because Sansa looks like Cat... that’s a dumb reason. Arya is every bit Cat’s daughter as well and I doubt the Jonyra shippers are saying Arya should play mother to TIB.

Jonyra isn't pedophilic because I ship them at the ages they are now on the show. Also for a number of other reasons
Yep. I obviously didn’t want them to get together when she was 9 and he 14 and they treated each other as very close siblings (even with her age in the beginning of the show I still felt kinda meeh nah).
And I think these - their age and close relation- are exactly the reason why they get separated so early on and have never seen each other ever since: so both Jon and Arya can grow up appart, still cherishing and loving one another, but changing so much in the course of time that, when they do meet again, they won’t be only very much older, but also nearly completely different people. So, all the things of “they grew up as siblings” and “they are underage” will be pretty easily done with.

…but it was Jon Snow she thought of most. She wished somehow they could come to the Wall before Winterfell, so Jon might muss up her hair and call her “little sister.” She’d tell him, “I missed you,” and he’d say it too at the very same moment, the way they always used to say things together. She would have liked that. She would have liked that better than anything.
