the way i was so anti jordayla proposal when they showed that promo with the ring and i was so convinced that he wasn’t going to be the one to propose. bc...where are they going? but then jordan got down on one knee and suddenly, it made all the sense in the world. jordan and layla have the luxury of having their life (career wise at least) planned out. she’s doing her record label and he’s trying to play in the nfl. oftentime, ppl delay marriage bc they have to figure their education and career out first to become financially stable. but jordan and layla are able to bypass that. and once he realized that layla is the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with, he knew that his future will always be with her (ergo the proposal). and it’s such a stark difference from jimone. mainly the fact that they didnt even get a proposal. it was just a random idea they had and decided to run along with it. but also, jimone’s wedding was a plot device to push spencer and liv to finally come face to face with how they felt romantically about each other (for God’s sake, jordan was playing devil’s advocate about why they shouldn’t get married). but with his proposal to Layla, it was clearly planned and thought out. he had time to get an engagement ring, get her ring size and plan a whole thing with fireworks. jordan did not go into their proposal impulsively (granted, it was accelerated because jj found the ring). but he knew, with everything in him, that he wanted to marry layla. additionally, losing billy gave jordan a new perspective on life. no longer does he move with the assumption that he will always have time to do something later at a different time. one minute billy was here and the next, he was gone. he doesn’t have that arrogant belief that there will always be a future bc quite honestly, he doesn’t know if that future will be there waiting for him. he sees himself spending the rest of his life with layla. why wait?

layla accepting his proposal honestly solidified everything for me tho. bc layla is smart. she is grounded, the most mature out of the whole friend group and she doesn’t do anything she doesn’t think she’ll succeed in. layla choosing to marry jordan tells me how strong their relationship is and how much she believes they’ll be able to be successful as a married couple.

im excited for s6 and the potential challenges they might face (but i do expect a long engagement from them tho).

I think my biggest mistake was not even watching All American and trusting the timeline to tell me what was going on because I just watched the finale because I wanted to see the proposal IN the episode. Tell me why the scene was actually so abrupt and it was after an entire episode of them fighting and they looked goofy as hell. No wonder people were laughing at them.

Tell me why Jordan was being an ass to Layla the entire episode and that’s just conveniently left out when they are talked about? That’s why twitter was mad when the show posted that scene. And I was like, I didn’t even see that scene. Layla was just expressing how she feels about marriage and a proposal and instead of Jordan hearing how she feels, he was like well, fuck your opinion and he is snapping at her? Over and over? And on top of that, the entire episode, he is mourning his father. This boy is grieving his dead dad all day before he proposes?! They wanted you to be like, this ain’t what it seems. He was running around upset and sad the entire episode about his father being dead and how he doesn’t have his advice/words anymore and it’s hitting him now that he will never get his opinion or take on anything again and THAT is why he proposed. All he has are his dads last words before he went on that bus. Which was actually very nonchalant and not at all about marrying Layla. Because Layla was just the last girl his dad knew about and for Jordan it needs to be her whether or not she wants to get married right now. That’s why her feelings on the topic were irrelevant to him all day. That’s why he was getting mad at her. If it was a proposal out of love and being with Layla, he’d be like okay she’s not there yet. But instead, he did not give a shit. He was like we don’t have time! That’s why he did it anyway despite seeing and hearing how she feels all day. Because Layla’s proposal wasn’t about her. It was about his father passing. That’s not a proposal episode. That’s why the twitter/instagram is acting like that towards it. It wasn’t even an OUT OF LOVE MOMENT. It was out of grief. Now it makes sense. Y’all removing context.

i really don't think layla will cheat on jordan tbh!! first of all that would be character assassination and it would make all american like all the other teen dramas and imo it's not like the other teen dramas where they do things solely for shock value or drama like in s3 spencer and olivia didn't plan that kiss or mean to hurt anyone and went out of their way to keep their distance so if layla cheats it would completely ruin her character but also the show!! like @mayskeating and I were talking about, something does feel off regarding jordayla and Layla but I think the stabbing really affected her because when you look at s5 jordayla there's something different and it has been over a year since the stabbing and she didn't really deal with it and I can see her mental health issues coming back because that's realistic especially after a trauma but I really can't see her cheating it's just not in her character to do that and would be too ooc!! and I don't see anything romantic with her and that employee and I think he's just there to create a little drama tbh! I really think it'll all be fine in the end and if she cheats I literally know nothing in life because I really don't think she will it would make no sense!!
