Children of Fear (2020) is another hefty bit of proof that Chaosium of any era has a talent for massive RPG campaigns, whether elder gods are involved or not. As it happens, this Call of Cthulhu campaign doesn’t have to involve the Cthulhu Mythos at all. The main threat comes from the titular children of fear, who wish to see the gates of Agartha unlocked and the King of Fear released to unmake reality. This COULD be a face of the mythos (and there are mi-go and white apes here and there in the campaign) but it draws inspiration on non-mythos subjects like Vajrayana Buddhism, Theosophy, the fiction of Lord Bulwer-Lytton and Journey to the West.
The saga begins in Peking, where the investigators become entangled with a lama who senses the gates of Agartha are opening. In order to slam them shut again, he enlists the players to help him find the necessary artifacts that will power a ritual to save reality. To do this, they travel through China, India and Tibet, encountering wonders and wickedness both supernatural and mundane.
At 400 pages, it is quite the accomplishment by author Lynne Hardy (who, incidentally, wrote one of my favorite CoC one-shots, Scritch Scratch) — painstakingly researched, gorgeous (I love the inclusion of paintings by theosophist Nicholas Roerich) and terrible in turns (oh boy there is some deeply uncomfortable subject matter in here, including cannibalism, ritual murder and a variety of sexual situations). In terms of scope and complexity, it might be a bigger undertaking than Masks of Nyarlathotep. There are several places when reading the adventure where I paused and wondered if I could handle it (and the book isn’t quite flawless — there could be more support for GMs built in and some of the hooks that pull the story long seem wobbly as is). Still, daunting or not, an exciting effort in an unusual direction. Having read this, I’m very keen to see Hardy’s next project from Chaosium, Rivers of London.

Once, there was a girl. She had a mother named Helike, a father named Poliades, a brother named Perses, and a home called Lilium. Here, she had lived, and here, she had lost. First, her father to illness. Then her mother to war. One of her mother's comrades-in-arms agreed to take the girl and her brother in, driven in part by guilt, and so a broken family became whole again.
The war with the Nabateans remained an ever-present threat, however. For children, peace was easy to believe in, and the girl had carried that idealized vision of her childhood for as long as she could, until - when the destruction finally reached her - it festered into resentment and hate. A savior in white had come with promises to protect, and she had believed him, idolized him and his ideals, internalized his bitterness toward their enemy, and turned a blind eye to his failings when not even bold ambition could save her home.
A part of her died the day Epimenides urged the people of Lilium to evacuate. From the hill overlooking the city, she saw flames, and stoked her own heart with them. Celephais returned with news that all was lost. Perses, gripped with restless fervor, left for the frontlines. Brokenhearted and despairing, a scattering of refugees sought asylum in a nearby town.
But the Fell Star would not let them rest, and sent a flood to wipe out the rest of Agartha. The girl witnessed the death of friends and family, her own adoptive brother among them, and yet was chained by her helplessness. She could do nothing but move on with the scraps of her family in search of a place to hide where a Goddess could not find them.
Even more starved along the way. Others died to exposure. Celephais relied on her great affinity with magic to give some aid to her hurting countrymen. She developed illusions, painless dreams, places where one could reunite with loved ones again, and then an idea occurred to her: between life and death, they could hide. Nestled deep within the Ruthalia mountains, Celephais perfected the technology that would allow the remnants of her people to finally rest and be happy.
The girl was not happy, however. And eventually, the others trapped in the dream turned restless and unhappy as well. They desired to live. Only one of them managed to escape.
But not completely. The girl, ravaged by loss and hatred, made a deal to satisfy her need for vengeance.
She didn't notice the threads looped around her limbs.
"You have cut them." The book closes. Your vision floods with light.

You wake up in the ruined remains of Rusalka in the eastern part of Adrestia, far from where you had begun your journey. Most of you are heavily battered, but by some miracle you are all alive. There is one other person in your party now: a thin, weak Pasithee, barely alive as well. There are no signs of the bishops who had led you into the illusion. They have disappeared without a trace, so you gather your belongings and help each other limp back to the monastery with your new prisoner in tow.
  — Apollyon Ouranos, end.

Closing Procedures (please read carefully!)
The events of Apollyon Ouranos are over! You have all escaped from the illusion, although your bodies and minds still bear the scars. You feel as if you narrowly escaped death. The tears in the sky have closed and Fódlan appears to have returned to normal. When you return to the monastery, you find that you have a year's worth of letters from home waiting for you. Had this been an illusion this whole time...?
You are free to continue any Apollyon Ouranos threads you have ongoing, and you may start epilogue threads if you wish. These posts will no longer count toward the grand prize though.

Astolfo Fun Facts! ✨
Tumblr media
Any Servant (such as a Ruler-class) who can see the statistics of other Servants will notice that Astolfo's profile has been heavily edited. He has access to powerful magic through his Noble Phantasm "Casseur de Logistille: Destruction Declaration," which allows him to perform feats of magecraft. Rather than using this to his tactical advantage, he instead graffitied his statblock with rambling remarks and doodles. He also covered his gender, preferring to let people guess for themselves on that matter.
Astolfo has great respect for King Charlemagne and considers himself a knight in "Charlie's" service above all else, even his existence as a Heroic Spirit. Nevertheless, they have a uniquely terrible sort of chemistry wherein they bring out the worst in each other: If left unsupervised, they will undoubtedly get up to mischief. Although Charlemagne considers Astolfo an idiot (in the gentlest and most affectionate usage of the term), Astolfo is shockingly adept at convincing his King to do stupid, dangerous, and otherwise fool-hardly things, purely for his own amusement. It's for the best that eleven other paladins were present to dilute their chaotic behavior.
Speaking of other paladins, Astolfo is biologically related to two of them: Bradamante and Roland. His hippogriff originally belonged to Bradamante, one of his cousins. He found himself in need of flight during his journey, so they traded with one another; Bradamante received Rabicano, his magical horse made of hurricane and flame, and his enchanted lance, Argalia. Because his most famous adventure involved flying to the moon while hitched to the aforementioned hippogriff, the Throne of Heroes recorded it as his possession, and determined his class to be Rider. Bradamante, in turn, was recorded as a Lancer. She does not seem overly thrilled about this. If Bradamante were to be summoned as a Rider, she would also have ownership of the hippogriff, but Astolfo seems incompatible with the Lancer class (though his primary weapon is indeed a lance).
Astolfo's relationship with his cousin Roland is unusual. Though he proudly wears the ribbons Roland gave to him in life, he also accuses his fellow paladin of being an out-of-control pervert with a number of alarming fetishes. He seems almost in awe of Roland's degeneracy. Roland, in turn, speaks to Astolfo like he's a child. One could say they're more like brothers engaged in sibling rivalry than cousins.
In Fate/Grand Order, Astolfo is classified as a genderless Servant. He is immune to skills, Charm spells, and Noble Phantasms that target men and/or women specifically. He does, however, have the "Appears Feminine" trait, so Blackbeard's Gentlemen's Love skill will restore his HP. This is the only skill in the game that impacts Servants with the "Appears Feminine" trait.
Astolfo's first major story appearance in Fate/Grand Order is during Subsingularity II: Agartha. He and D'eon are guest Servants during this chapter; however, they leyshifted into the singularity by bribing a certain staff member and are not rogue Servants confined to the singularity. In short, this means that both Astolfo and D'eon are canonically present within Chaldea during Fate/Grand Order.
[FATE/APOCRYPHA SPOILERS] Though Astolfo and his Master did not win the war for the Greater Grail in Fate/Apocrypha, they both survived the conflict. Sieg's transformation into Fafnir also turned him into a limitless font of mana. Despite being separated by different planes of reality, Sieg's mana still reached Astolfo through the veil, making him effectively immortal. He chose to take advantage of this for a time and went on a plethora of adventures, just as he did in life. Some of his journeys are recorded in the short story Fate/Apocrypha: Story of Survivor (which has not been translated into English). During this time, he visited with some of the other surviving Masters, tried and failed to reach Sieg on the Reverse Side of the World, and researched how Ruler Amakusa was able to summon Assassin Semiramis. Once he was satisfied with what he'd learned, he released himself from his Contract with Sieg to await another summoning.

for context, we came up with the zine project in june 2020, at my place, and agreed on writing some articles on different animated movies; i was supposed to write a review of journey to agartha but wasn't able to finish it right away, and we didn't have a clear deadline yet anyway. the project was still slowly taking form, thanks to long enthusiastic discussions about it and advice from my friends' stepmum who works in publishing. we also asked a few other friends of us if they wanted to participate, etc.
cue to one year later, one of my friends creates an instagram account for the zine, gives it a name on her own, and my other friend creates a logo -- all out of the blue without involving me in the process, and. they're now basically running the instagram account and posting artist profiles on their own so. yeah. that hurt me
i was pretty busy in 2021, with my exams, graduation from high school, and then the fiasco of my first year of uni, so i didn't feel like bringing it up at first, especially with the fact my article was cancelled because i knew i wouldn't be able to write it for the moment. but now that my friends and i are seeing each other again often and that i'm in a better place mentally, i need to figure out a way to tell them how i feel :(

Anonymously so this stays here, but where I’m from a somewhat big streamer was disgusted by hopes because we live next to a big aggressive neighbour country with a history of bullying everyone (to put it mildly), well, he said shez is to fodlan as kris is to marth: they were new characters made to replace the protagonist but to also hype up the lord, and well, kris is obsessed with marth marth marth, shez on two routes is apparently pro imperialism…i don’t think I like this version of that world anymore. At least in houses we could kill edelgard most of the time.
???
From the script I read, far from hyping Marth, Kris actually steals his show, to the point where it's because Kris is such a nice/good guy that Marth gets all credit for the War of Heroes!
Barney is actually an interesting concept, they talk, they are as dumb as your generic shonen protagonist and are attaching...
But they don't matter, and don't interact at all with the Lord, they're just either a yes-man or a friend on a long list of "friends".
Barney is, imo, just a stronger random with plot powers, but still a random with no plot relevance - hell even the Larva plot is unfinished, and from the state of Nopes, it will never be completed.
Barney supports Supreme Leader because they love to be praised, and supports Clout because, uh, reasons. They're just a merc who love "merc life" - a glorified multipurpose knife. I found them more likeable and bearable in AG because they ditch the "merc life" and start to think about randoms, what is right or wrong etc etc.
But in Supreme Bullshit or Golden Shower? Since they aren't on Dimitri's side, they are just the yes-man of two morons who think they're hot stuff, and ultimately, the Mc Guffin that allows them to "win" their route.
I still love how, ultimately, in the "Agartha Yes" route, no Lord ultimately wins the war - as opposed to FE16 where Billy is the Nabatean Guide, and where the chosen Lord finishes their journey.

pls say more abt the cod zombies lore
YOU grant me such kindness anon. Thank You. i'm going to ramble so fucking much under the cut
so there's these four guys right? there's these four guys there's Tank Dempsy (american), theres Nikolai Belinski (russian), theres Takeo Masaki (japanese) and there Edward Richtofen (german). they meet through Circumstances (ol eddy boy awakening the other 3 from cryostasis) and kind of hate each other. they get all wrapped up in Zombies Shit cause there's a whole outbreak of zombies now.
so they go on this whole teleporting adventure when a teleporter malfunctions and they go on a crazy journey. they get unknowing help from a guy called dr monty (he's just a nice just a friendly fella) and they first go to a rocket launch site where they help a guy called girsh (he's a spirit, don't worry about it!).
so next, through a rift opened by girsh, they go to siberia where george romero is filming a zombie movie. the force that the 4 (known as Ultimis) are trying to stop, samantha, follows them there and unleashes another zombie outbreak. ultimis get trapped in a little room so Real World Movie Stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Robert Englund, Danny Trejo and Michael rooker help them recover this thing called the vril device.
up next on Ultimis' Weird Day Out: shangri-fucking-la baby! they help break two explorers out of a time loop and retrieve the focusing stone. the teleporter gets fucked up again, they get stuck in a closet in the pentagon, it's no big deal JFK and castro fight zombies. who cares
NOW THEY GO TO THE DAMN MOON. as it turns out the moon is the location of this mystical pyramid called the MPD, the MPD is where samantha is, it's the source of the power of the zombies. it turns out that ol eddy boy is actually kind of a dickhead and a bitch! he fucks over ultimis and swaps his soul with samantha's trapping her in his body and putting him inside the MPD. also he has full control of the zombies now. the remaining members of ultimis + samantha get contacted by dr maxis, and samantha's father.
as it turns out, it's edward's fault they're in this mess in the first place. he got too obsessed with his research and his experiments are what caused samantha's soul to become trapped in the MPD. maxis, heartbroken by the death of his daughter and edward's betrayal, instructed her to kill edward and his associates. he takes his own life and merges with the technology of the moon base. in the present, he helps ultimis launch a missile strike on earth, leaving it in an apocalyptic state.
in the following decade, maxis and edward fight for control of the earth, edward needing willing servants to build devices that'll repair his connection to the aether (severed when the missiles struck the earth) and maxis needing the same devices to be configured to open a portal to the paradise dimension of agartha, where he can reunite with samantha. (he does not reveal the fact of course, that opening the portal to argartha will destroy the earth)
a group of 4 human survivours, known as victis, get up to a whle bunch of shit and construct the 3 devices maxis need. the portal is opened, and maxis' digital self is sent to argartha (destroying the earth). edward's soul is transported inside of a zombie, doomed to forever walk the desolate earth as one of the undead he once controlled.
so that's the story of black ops 1 and 2. There's 2 other games BTW.

Good morning. Hopefully our comms are up and functioning and this goes through.
Well! We managed to get our camp set up with minimal incident. Most of the team is still asleep right now. We didn’t get much on the way out here. Just. Nerves mostly. Animals moving around and a couple nights we heard gunshots from somewhere. Not intended for us, we think. But.
Anyway. We still need to make contact with the surrounding tribes and villages to better understand and get permission on where we’ll be allowed to go. And who’s still left, unfortunately. Rumors picked up on the way here have suggested a number of communities may have died out or relocated in just the last few years. They’re fairly certain a few should be still around and there’s apparently a mission still operating in the area - with possible Morninglight ties.
We’re pretty sure we’ve come across the access point for Agartha as well.
[A photo is posted of a massive tree adorned with tied cloths and beads, carved masks and fetishes and other signs of offerings. An opening at its roots leads underground, large enough to drive a Jeep through - with a wrecked one lodged in the roots nearby for scale.
Though it’s a still image, you can almost feel it breathing and catch a glimpse of a haze of golden light spilling from the depths of the opening.]
Information is a super weird substance. Across the world, the fiber-optic network of Agartha’s roots break the surface, three trillion data points operating in sync. Few places are felt so deeply as the Congo.
Illuminate the what-was.
Pale-faced explorers paint over existing maps with fervor. There is profit in discovery, and there is more in discovering that which is already known. Fame and fortune is carried on the back of the myth, on bold adventurers journeying into unknown lands to claim it for themselves from its savage inhabitants. The myth is a lie.
Ignorance spreads. The network burns. A voice slips in.
So we’ll need to work on getting permission to approach it. Ideally.
I haven’t slept since we left, so once more of the others are up, I might try to lie down for a while.
I hope everyone’s been doing well.

10 Best Anime Movies that will make you cry on Netflix
In this article we talk about the 10 best anime movies that will make you cry on Netflix.
Tumblr media
You’re all aware that most anime films contain numerous emotional, sentimental, and heartfelt moments. We can sometimes connect with them and relate to their experiences with our own, which causes us to cry. There are many anime series that are full of emotions and life lessons, but we don’t have a lot of time to watch long-running series. That’s why we enjoyed watching anime movies and felt the same way the anime series did. This article will tell you about the top 10 best anime movies that will make you cry on Netflix. All of these movies are available and easy to stream in high quality on Netflix.
So, without further ado, here are the 10 best anime movies that will make you cry on Netflix.
10. Garden Of Words
Tumblr media
Garden of Words is a 46-minute long running drama film that was created by Makoto Shinkai. Studio CoMix Wave Films animated this beautiful and heart-touching movie in 2013. This movie depicts how people evolve in an odd and disconnected manner, regardless of their age. Sometimes adults may also feel less mature than teenagers.
This film follows the stories of Takao Akizuki, a 15-year-old student, and Yukari Yukino, a 27-year-old working woman. Takao frequently skips his school’s classes in order to sketch shoe designs in Shinjuku Gyoen’s garden. Yukari also avoided her office work and spent her time in the same garden.
Takao gradually began to talk to her about his love of shoes and even offered her a pair. While Yukari refuses to reveal anything about herself, including her own name. Following that, a lot of things happened in between them that changed your perspective on maturity. Well, I’m not going to tell you that. C’mon, put in some effort and find out for yourself by watching this, one of the best anime movies that will make you cry on Netflix.
9. Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
Tumblr media
Anohana: The flower we saw that day is a 99-minute coming-of-age film. Super Peace Busters, a trio of three artists composed of Tatsuyuki Nagai, Mari Okada, and Masayoshi Tanaka, made this fantastic film. This film was brilliantly animated by Studio A-1 Pictures in 2013. It demonstrated true friendship and an unbreakable bond between childhood friends which make it one of the best anime movies that will make you cry on Netflix.
This film tells the story of six childhood friends who attended the same grade school. But, following the untimely death of one of their friends, Menma, they are all separated from one another. Jinta Yadomi, the group’s leader, dropped out of high school and lived as a loner for the next five years.
One day, the ghost of Menma appears in front of Jinta and requests a favour in order to grant her wish. She also claims that if she does not fulfil her dream, she will be unable to enter the afterlife. Jinta decides to assist her and gathers all four of her childhood friends. They all went through several emotional experiences and formed a strong friendship bond with one another. All of these events are fascinating, and I don’t want to ruin them. Rather than searching the internet, watch this movie and figure it out for yourself.
8. Children Who Chase Lost Voices
Tumblr media
Children Who Chase Lost Voices is also known as “Journey to Agartha.” This 116-minute adventure film was created by the most popular director, Makoto Shinkai. This film was animated by Studio CoMix Wave Films and released in 2011. Due to its great and wonderful world building and plot, it became one of the best anime movies that will make you cry on Netflix.
This movie depicts the story of a young girl named Asuna Watase who attends an elementary school. She lives with her pet cat, Mimi, and spends her spare time listening to the mysterious music emanating from the whisker receiver. One day, she was attacked by a terrifying creature, but a teenage boy named Shun saved her. Shun informs her that he is not from their world and that he has come from Agartha, the land of the dead, to find something.
The next morning, Shuns was found dead in the river, which Asuna did not believe. Asuna then hears the word Agartha from Morisaki, her teacher. After that they both decided to travel to Agartha via the gate of life and death in order to resurrect Morisaki’s wife’s soul. They saw many mysterious things on their journey that we can only imagine. This film delves into the afterlife things and vibes that we only experience at the end of our lives. So hurry up and watch this amazing film.
7. Flavour of Youth
Tumblr media
Flavors of Youth is a 75-minute Japanese-Chinese drama film made up of three short films. This fantastic film features three incredible short films: The Rice Noodles, A Little Fashion Show, and Love in Shanghai. All three films have distinct plots and themes, as well as incredible emotional and heart-wrenching movements. That’s why this film is known as one of the best anime movies that will make you cry on Netflix. In 2018, two well-known studios, CoMix Wave Films and Haoliners Animation League, animated this film.
The story of the Rice Noodles depicts our underlying affection for our hometown. It also perfectly depicts how we feel when we leave our hometown and move to the city for school or work. “A Little Fashion Show,” the second story, depicts the love and closeness between two sisters. Yi Lin is an older sister who is a model, and Lulu is a younger sister who is a fashion designer. Lulu decided to become a fashion designer in order to assist her sister in her modelling career. They are always supportive of one another and live happily together.
The last story, Love in Shanghai, beautifully depicts a childhood romantic relationship. Li Mo is a young boy who is not good in academics at school, whereas Xiao Yu is a lovely girl who is an excellent scholar in school. They are more than friends, and they have always wanted to live together.
As a result, there are many worries regarding whether they will be able to live together despite their significant academic differences. You already know what you need to do to find out. So hurry up and see this amazing movie.
6. 5 cm per second
Tumblr media
5 Centimeters per Second is a romantic anime movie that was created by Makoto Shinkai. CoMix Wave Films developed this lively animated film in 2007. This film depicts three major phases in Takaki Tono’s life: Cherry Blossom, Cosmonaut, and 5 Centimeters per Second. In each phase, it depicts Takaki’s relationship with the girls around him.
In the first phase, Cherry Blossom depicts Takaki’s elementary school life. He is very close and has a strong friendship with Akari Shinohara. They both have a lot in common and have a similar attitude. After graduation from elementary school, they separated from each other. In the second phase, Cosmonaut shows Takaki’s senior high school life. Takaki’s classmate, Kanae Sumida, has a love feeling for him but has never had the courage to confess it to them. Because she knows that he is looking for another person and decides not to say anything to him.
In the last period, 5 Centimeters per Second, Takaki became a programmer in Tokyo. He became depressed and resigned from his job after learning about Akari’s marriage to another guy. They both begin a dual narration in which they both recall a recent dream in which they both saw the cherry blossoms together.
This film is filled with emotional and lovely moments that will keep you hooked until the end. That’s why this film is known as one of the best anime movies that will make you cry on Netflix. I strongly advise you to watch this beautiful romantic film in order to understand the true meaning of love.

Children Who Chase Lost Voices (Makoto Shinkai, 2011)
Cast: Voices of Hisako Kanemoto, Miyu Irino, Kazuhiko Inoue, Junko Takeuchi, Fumiko Orikasa, Sumi Shimamoto. Screenplay: Makoto Shinkai. Cinematography: Makoto Shinkai. Art direction: Takumi Tanji. Film editing: Aya Hida, Makoto Shinkai. Music: Tenmon.
Myth-making anime fantasy, crafted with Makoto Shinkai's usual opulence, Children Who Chase Lost Voices draws on a variety of legends about the underworld, including Orpheus's journey to Hades to reclaim Eurydice. The protagonist is a young girl, Asuna, who finds herself in a subterranean land called Agartha, accompanied by her teacher, Mr. Morisaki, who knows a good deal, though not enough, about Agartha. He wants to go there to see if he can bring his dead wife back to life. Asuna is driven by curiosity about a strange boy named Shun, whom she met on her wanderings in the hills near her village. They discover that they have to deal with the animosity of the residents of Agartha toward people from the upper world. (The subtitles call them "Topsiders," which for me has a distracting footwear overtone.) It's too creepy and violent for younger kids, and some of its plot points, such as the suggestion that Agartha has been exploited by malign upper-world forces like the Nazis, need better context. But it's never boring and always a treat for the eye.
