My niece loves my office. The arsenic green mint walls and the pastel pink ceiling always get a squeal reaction, but not as much as the Halloween decor I keep “forgetting” to put away. It’s like Barbie’s Haunted Dreamhouse in there, which was the exact aesthetic I was going for. It’s for my inner child who never got to put color on her walls and who loved Halloween more than Christmas and ended up being sent to see the church counselor about it before being firmly asked not to return to Sunday school.
Anyway.
You can tell my MIL hates it, or at least strongly disapproves by the way she says things like, “looks like we forgot to put Halloween away again” or tries to redirect my niece away from the “scary” things.
My niece on the other hand will have none of it. She wants to touch the silver bat shaped bells hanging from the ceiling. She wants to inspect the two skeletons holding hands. The crystals and skulls and Halloween count down clock are all cause for great delight as she points excitedly and yells “spooky!” with shrieking glee.
Today when I walked in to see if my SIL needed anything to change the baby, my niece looked up from cataloging all the “scary” things in the office, pointed directly at me and with the most heartfelt joy you’ve ever heard yelled “Spooky!” And I’ve never felt happier.
I am Auntie Spooky.
I’m surprised an icon didn’t pop up over my head: Weird Witch Aunt Aesthetic Achieved.

Halloween is your favorite time of the year, and there's an undeniable magic that surrounds it. The anticipation starts building as soon as the leaves begin to change, and the air gets a chill. What you love most about this bewitching season is the opportunity it offers to express your creativity and indulge in some delightful traditions.
Each year, you eagerly await the chance to dive into your costume collection. Dressing up in different costumes is an absolute highlight of Halloween for you. It's like stepping into a new character's shoes, even if just for a night. From classic monsters to iconic movie characters, you relish the chance to transform yourself into someone or something entirely different. Whether it's crafting a homemade costume or scouring the stores for the perfect ensemble, the excitement of choosing a new identity adds a sense of adventure to the season.
Decorating for Halloween is another aspect that fills you with immense joy. In fact, you go all out, sometimes even more so than you do for Christmas. The house becomes a spooky spectacle, adorned with cobwebs, glowing pumpkins, eerie skeletons, and ghostly figures. It's the perfect opportunity to let your imagination run wild and turn your home into a haunted haven that sends shivers down the spines of all who pass by. The ambiance created by these decorations truly embodies the spirit of Halloween.
One of your cherished Halloween traditions is preparing little goody bags for the children who knock on your door. As darkness falls, the excitement in the air is palpable, and the sound of children's laughter and eager footsteps approaching your doorstep is enchanting. You carefully assemble these treat-filled bags with an assortment of candies, small toys, and spooky surprises, ensuring that each one is a delightful treasure trove for the young trick-or-treaters. Seeing their faces light up with joy as they receive these goody bags is incredibly rewarding and keeps the spirit of Halloween alive for you.
In the end, Halloween isn't just a holiday; it's a magical celebration of your imagination, creativity, and community. It's a time when you can let your inner child run free, embracing the thrill of dressing up, decorating with abandon, and sharing the joy with the little ghouls and goblins who come knocking at your door. Halloween is a special time when you feel truly connected to the spirit of the season, and you eagerly await its arrival year after year.
It was 31st October, at four in the afternoon, You find yourself standing in the kitchen, a warm and cosy atmosphere filling the room. The enticing aroma of toffee apples wafts through the air, and you can't help but feel a sense of joy as you prepare this Halloween treat. You're dressed in nothing but one of your boyfriend's oversized shorts and a pair of his boxers, topped off with fluffy socks that keep your feet snug against the cool kitchen floor.
As you stir the bubbling toffee mixture on the stovetop, the catchy tune of "Monster Mash" fills the kitchen, courtesy of a nearby speaker.
You can't resist the urge to sing along with Bobby Pickett's classic song. With a grin, you belt out the lyrics,
"He did the mash, he did the monster mash,"
Whilst swaying your hips playfully to the rhythm as you continue to stir.
The sugary concoction in the pot thickens, and you dip the apples one by one, coating them in the sticky, sweet toffee. The chorus of the song approaches, and you sing with even more enthusiasm,
"It was a graveyard smash!" Your voice fills the kitchen, blending with the upbeat melody, creating a spontaneous moment of pure Halloween delight.
After carefully setting the toffee-coated apples on a parchment-lined tray to cool, you take a moment to enjoy the whimsy of it all. Your makeshift Halloween outfit – those oversized shorts and boxers – reminds you that this holiday is all about having fun and letting loose. It's a time when dressing up doesn't have to be elaborate; it can be as relaxed and spontaneous as your current attire.
As you savour the toffee apples, you can't help but let your mind wander to memories of Halloween's past. Each year, you've embraced this holiday with creativity and enthusiasm, from crafting costumes to decorating your home with spooky delights. It's a time when you feel truly alive, and the joy of the season infuses every aspect of your day, from making toffee apples to singing along to "Monster Mash."
With a satisfied sigh, you turn off the music and take a moment to revel in the warm, cosy kitchen and the delicious treats you've created. Halloween, with all its traditions and whimsy, brings a special kind of magic to your life, and you can't wait to share these toffee apples with friends and loved ones, knowing that they'll appreciate the spooky fun just as much as you do.
As you're about to walk out of the kitchen, a sense of accomplishment washes over you. Your toffee apples are cooling, and you turn, ready to leave the cozy haven of the kitchen. However, when you glance toward the doorway, you're met with a surprising sight. Your boyfriend, Harry, is leaning against the door frame, arms crossed over his chest, wearing a mischievous smirk that sends a shiver down your spine. You didn't even hear him enter the house.
You can't help but let out a startled shriek, your heart racing from the sudden surprise.
"H, you scared me!" you exclaim, your voice a mix of astonishment and delight.
He chuckles, pushing himself away from the doorway.
"Come on, give me a hug, y’know v’missed m’favorite girl." he says, his tone playful as he extends his arms toward you.
But you, still caught off guard and determined to return the favor, shake your head with a sly, playful smirk. "No way! You scared me fair and square!"
Undeterred, Harry takes purposeful steps toward you, his eyes locked onto yours. Before you can react, he scoops you up effortlessly, making you involuntarily wrap your legs around his waist and your arms around his neck. It happens so quickly that you can't help but laugh, the tension from your initial scare melting away.
With a grin, Harry holds you close, his voice a warm, low murmur in your ear. "Well, now that V’got you, m’not letting y’go."
You playfully roll your eyes but tighten your hold around him, your heart filled with love and happiness.
Harry places you gently on the kitchen countertop, and he steps in between your legs, his hands finding their familiar path as he runs them up and down your arms. It's a comforting and affectionate gesture, one that never fails to make you feel cherished.
With a soft smile, he asks, "So, how was y’day, m’love?"
You lean in, enjoying the closeness, and reply, "Well, it was pretty fantastic until you startled me in the kitchen, Mr. Sneaky. But now it's absolutely perfect."
Harry chuckles, a warm and genuine sound. "I promise, I'll make it up to you."
And he always lived up to his promises when it came to you.
With your curiosity piqued, you ask, "And how was your day at the studio?"
His eyes light up as he starts talking about his day, "Was great, actually. We made some good progress on those new songs we've been working on. I think y’going t’love em’."
You smile, genuinely interested in his music and the passion he pours into it. "I can't wait to hear them. You always make the best music."
His fingers trail back up your arms, and he leans in closer, his voice low and intimate. "M’lucky t’have y’as my biggest fan."
You can't help but blush at his sweet words, and you wrap your arms around his neck, drawing him in for a tender kiss. It's a moment of pure affection and love, where words aren't necessary to convey the depth of your feelings for each other.
Harry, standing between your legs and continuing to run his hands up and down your arms, suddenly leans in and whispers, "V’got a surprise f’you tonight, m’love."
You tilt your head, intrigued. "A surprise? What's the occasion?"
He smiles, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "No occasion, just a little something t’save us the hassle of cooking tonight."
Curiosity gets the better of you, and you inquire, "Oh, really? Where are we going?"
Harry grins and leans in closer, his lips brushing against your ear as he says, "S’a surprise, babe."
You pout playfully, "Come on, give me a hint!"
He chuckles, "Nope, not a chance. You'll find out soon enough."
But then, as you enjoy the warmth of his embrace, a thought strikes you. "Wait a minute, H. What about the goody bags I made for the kids? I don't want them to go to waste."
Harry furrows his brow for a moment, then his face lights up with a solution. "Well, here's the plan. V’booked a table f’us at eight o'clock, before that, y’can still give out the goody bags t’the little trick-or-treaters. How does that sound?"
Your eyes twinkle with gratitude as you realise Harry's thoughtful gesture. "That sounds perfect, H. You're the best."
He smiles and places a gentle kiss on your lips. "Anything f’you, love. Now, let's enjoy our night out and make Halloween even more special."
You nudge your nose closer to Harry's, a mischievous glint in your eyes, and say with a sly grin, "So, we've got a bit of time then?"
Harry's eyes meet yours, and he responds in a low, husky tone, "Yes, we do."
With that, you wrap your arms around his neck, your fingers playing with the curls at the nape of his neck, and you whisper seductively, "I want to thank you for organising tonight, upstairs."
Harry's speech momentarily deserts him as he's taken aback by your unexpected boldness. He nods his head, unable to find any words to respond.
Not wanting to let the moment linger too long, you hop off the countertop and grab hold of his hand, tugging him gently. "Come on, then. Let's not waste any more time."
With a knowing smile, Harry allows you to lead him out of the kitchen and up the stairs. The anticipation of what's to come adds an extra layer of excitement to this already memorable Halloween evening.

The soft, early evening light filters through the curtains, casting a warm, golden glow over the room. You sit gracefully at your vanity, the polished surface reflecting your image back at you as you put the finishing touches on your ensemble.
Your dress, chosen with care, drapes elegantly around you, a warm shade of orange that shimmers in the gentle light. And gives off the impressions that it’s Halloween. The fabric feels cool against your skin, a contrast to the warmth of anticipation that courses through you. The neckline of the dress showcases your collarbone, adorned with a delicate necklace that glints with a solitary pendant.
Your fingers, adorned with delicate rings, move with practiced precision as you pick up a pair of exquisite earrings. The intricate design of these earrings catches the light, scattering it into a dazzling display of sparkle and shine. You slip them into your earlobes, and they hang there, framing your face like twinkling stars in the night sky.
A sweep of mascara enhances your lashes, framing your eyes, while a touch of eyeshadow brings out their mesmerizing color. You admire the reflection in the vanity mirror, a vision of elegance and beauty, all ready for the evening ahead.
The room is filled with a subtle fragrance, a floral perfume that envelops you in a delicate embrace. As you gaze at your reflection one last time, you can't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. You're not just dressing up; you're preparing for a night of shared moments, laughter, and connection with someone special.
As you're putting the finishing touches on your ensemble, the doorbell rings, its cheerful chime resonating through the house. You glance out of the bedroom window overlooking the driveway and spot a group of excited little kids standing at your front door. Their eager faces are illuminated by the soft glow of the porch light, and you can't help but smile at the sight.
With a burst of energy, you race out of the room, past Harry who's meticulously fixing his hair in the hallway mirror. You hear him chuckling at your sudden sprint as you rush down the stairs, your heart filled with warmth and joy.
In a hurry, you grab the box of goody bags you prepared earlier, feeling the weight of anticipation as you make your way to the front door. You can't wait to see the smiles on the faces of these young trick-or-treaters.
As you swing open the door, you're met with a chorus of excited voices and colourful costumes. "Trick or treat!" they shout in unison, their eyes wide with anticipation.
You grin down at the little witches, ghosts, and superheroes on your doorstep.
"Well, don't you all look amazing! Happy Halloween!" you exclaim.
The children eagerly extend their candy bags, and you start handing out the goody bags you prepared with care.
"Here you go, sweetie," you say to each child, making sure they each receive a bag filled with treats and small toys.
One young pirate with a plastic eyepatch looks up at you with wide eyes and says, "Thank you so much! Your house is the best!"
You can't help but laugh at their enthusiasm. "You're very welcome! Have a fantastic Halloween night, everyone!"
As you close the front door behind you, a sense of contentment lingers from the cheerful encounter with the trick-or-treaters. The warmth of their smiles and the joy of sharing the Halloween spirit still linger in your heart.
However, just as you're about to turn around and join Harry, you feel a sudden pair of strong arms wrapping around your waist. A startled gasp escapes your lips as you're once again caught off guard.
Harry chuckles softly, his warm breath brushing against your ear as he asks, "Did I scare y’again?"
You turn to face him, a playful pout on your lips. "You certainly did, Harry, baby."
With a mischievous grin, he says, "Well, are y’ready t’get going soon?"
You nod, feeling a rush of excitement for the evening ahead. "Just let me put my shoes on, and I'll be all set."
Harry releases you from his embrace, and you quickly slip on your shoes. As you stand up and adjust your outfit one last time, you take Harry's hand, feeling the warmth and strength in his grasp.
He’s wearing orange as well seeing as he instead that the two of you match. His suit jacket is a warm orange almost burned orange with a pair of beige, green and red stripped trousers, a white vest under neath the jacket with a pair of vans.
As you finish putting on your shoes, Harry approaches you with a mischievous glint in his eyes and his hands hidden behind his back. You tilt your head to the side, a playful smile curving your lips, and ask, "Baby, what are you up to now?"
With a grin, he reveals his hands, holding up an eye sleep mask. You burst into laughter, the unexpectedness of the item catching you off guard. "An eye mask? What's that for?"
Harry chuckles and shrugs, a mischievous sparkle still in his eyes. "Well, I didn't ‘ave a blindfold handy, so I thought this would ‘ave t’do."
You raise an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. "A blindfold? Why do I need a blindfold?"
He smirks and takes a step closer, the eye mask still in hand. "S’a surprise, m’sun."
You can't help but grin at his playful insistence.
As he gently ties the eye sleep mask around your eyes, you're plunged into darkness, your other senses heightened in anticipation. You hear his soft voice by your ear as he whispers, "Just a little longer, and you'll see."
Tumblr media
As you ride along in the car, your senses are heightened by the darkness of the eye sleep mask Harry placed over your eyes. You can feel the subtle vibrations of the road beneath you, and the sound of the engine purring is your only connection to the outside world. The anticipation of where you're heading fills the car, and you can't help but wonder where this surprise will lead.
Your excitement bubbles over as you sit back in your seat, trying to piece together clues from the sounds and sensations around you. You feel the car slowing down, the engine settling into a quiet hum as it comes to a stop.
You can hear the car doors opening, and the cool night air flows in, carrying with it the scents and sounds of your mysterious destination.
As you carefully step out of the car, Harry quickly comes around to your side, extending a helping hand to ensure you exit safely. The night air is crisp and filled with a mix of earthy scents and distant laughter, further deepening the sense of mystery that surrounds your romantic adventure.
Harry takes your hand, leading you somewhere, though you have no idea where. You can feel twigs scratching at the bottoms of your legs and the occasional crunch beneath your feet, which you assume to be leaves scattered on the ground. Your sense of curiosity heightens as you try to navigate the path, relying solely on Harry's guidance.
Despite his careful assistance, you find yourself stumbling over the uneven terrain. In a playful tone, you tease, "Is this where you finally kill me?"
Harry, always quick with a witty response, leans closer and whispers in your ear with mock seriousness, "Y’just become too annoying."
But before you can react, he bursts into laughter, and you can't help but join in. His playful nature adds an element of lightness to the evening, reminding you of the deep connection and laughter you share together.
As you continue walking, following Harry's guidance and playfully tripping over the uneven ground, you suddenly come to a stop. You feel his hands gently settle on your waist, steadying you with a sense of purpose.
With a soft and affectionate tone, Harry informs you, "We've arrived, m’love."
Your heart flutters with anticipation as his hand comes up to your face, fingers finding the edge of the eye mask. He slowly, very slowly, starts to pull it off. As the fabric gradually peels away from your eyes, the world around you begins to reveal itself.
The sight that unfolds before you takes your breath away. The entire Pumpkin Patch, where you had your first date four years ago, has been transformed into a scene of enchantment. Fairy lights twinkle in the trees above, casting a warm, inviting glow over the area. A red carpet pathway leads the way, drawing your eyes to a charming picnic set up in the middle of the field.
The picnic area is adorned with soft blankets and plump cushions, a low table adorned with flickering candles, and a spread of delectable treats and your favourite dishes. It's a scene straight out of a fairy tale, bathed in the soft, romantic ambiance of the evening.
The fairy lights, the red carpet, the romantic picnic – it's all too much, and you can hardly believe your eyes. In a state of wonder, you turn to Harry and stammer, "How... How did you organize all of this?"
Harry chuckles, a glint of amusement in his eyes, and teases, "Well, m’love, being famous does have its perks, y’know."
You playfully roll your eyes at his modesty, knowing that it must have taken a great deal of planning and effort to arrange such a magical evening. With a heart full of love and gratitude, you give him a warm hug, feeling incredibly lucky to be sharing this unforgettable moment with him.
With Harry holding his hands out for you to hold onto, you walk together on the plush red carpet that leads to the charming picnic area. The soft glow of the fairy lights above creates a magical pathway, and each step feels like a journey through time and love.
As you arrive at the picnic spot, the two of you settle down on the soft blankets and plump cushions. It's then that you notice something truly heartwarming. Pictures of you and Harry throughout your relationship are delicately displayed on branches of the trees, held up by ribbons swaying gently in the breeze.
You can't help but lean into Harry's side, a contented smile on your face as you admire the photos above you. They capture moments of joy, laughter, and love from your journey together. Each image tells a story, and together, they form a beautiful tapestry of your shared history.
Harry's arm wraps around your shoulders, pulling you closer as you both gaze up at the memories hanging in the air. It's a touching tribute to your relationship, a reminder of the love that has grown and deepened over the years.
With the pictures of your shared memories above, you turn to Harry, your heart warmed by the enchanting atmosphere he's created. You ask with curiosity, "So, what have you prepared for our picnic?"
He grins, his eyes sparkling with excitement, and begins to describe a mouthwatering array of dishes, all of your favorite foods. From savory snacks to delectable desserts, each item is carefully chosen to delight your taste buds and make this night truly unforgettable.
As he finishes detailing the menu, you can't help but lean in to kiss him, your lips meeting in a sweet and affectionate embrace. It's your way of expressing how touched you are by his thoughtfulness and attention to detail.
With a playful glint in his eye, Harry picks up a chocolate-covered strawberry and holds it out to you. His fingers delicately feed you the sweet treat, the rich chocolate and ripe strawberry creating a burst of flavor that dances on your tongue. It's a small, intimate moment, but it carries the weight of all the love and care he's poured into this evening.
With a touch of elegance, Harry reaches for a bottle of champagne, the soft pop of the cork resonating in the air as he expertly opens it. He carefully pours the effervescent liquid into two crystal-clear flutes, the bubbles rising like a toast to the evening's enchantment.
As he hands you a glass, the bubbly liquid dancing with anticipation, you clink your flutes together with a cheerful "Cheers!" The sound reverberates in the air, and you take a sip, savoring the crisp, celebratory taste.
With a smile, Harry raises his glass and says, "To the future."
You pause, a slight hint of confusion flickering across your features. But, not wanting to dwell on it, you quickly catch on and raise your glass again, chiming in with a warm smile, "To the future."
As the evening unfolds, and about half an hour has passed since you started your picnic in the enchanting Pumpkin Patch, you and Harry have talked about everything under the moonlight. The shared memories, dreams, and laughter have woven a tapestry of warmth around you, making the night feel like a timeless moment.
While you're enjoying a delicious ham and cucumber sandwich, Harry looks at you with a thoughtful expression. He asks, "Ave’ y’ever thought about the future?"
With a smile, you nod and take another bite of your sandwich before responding, "Oh, all the time. I can't wait to grow old with you, get married, have children – mini versions of you and me running around. The future is something I think about a lot."
With the night sky overhead and the soft glow of fairy lights creating a romantic ambiance, Harry looks deeply into your eyes and says, "I can't wait any longer."
Your brow furrows in confusion, and you ask, "Can't wait for what, baby? What are you talking about?"
His eyes shimmer with affection as he replies, "I can't wait any longer to do this."
Before you can react, Harry takes your hand and reaches into his pocket, pulling out a small, velvet box.
Your heart skips a beat as he opens it to reveal a glistening engagement ring. In that moment, you realise what he meant, and your eyes fill with tears of joy.
With your heart racing and tears of joy welling up in your eyes, Harry stands up, gently pulling you up with him. You're overwhelmed by a mix of emotions, covering your face with your hands as if to shield yourself from the magnitude of what's happening.
Amidst the soft glow of the fairy lights and the magical ambiance of The Pumpkin Patch, Harry crouches down on one knee, his expression filled with love and determination. He takes a deep breath and reaches out, gently grabbing ahold of your hand, the engagement ring glinting in the moonlight.
In that moment, time seems to stand still as you realize that the love of your life is about to ask the most important question you've ever heard. Your heart pounds with anticipation as you anxiously await his words, the future you've dreamed of suddenly taking shape before your eyes.
In the soft glow of the fairy lights, surrounded by the enchantment of The Pumpkin Patch, Harry looks deeply into your eyes, his voice filled with love and sincerity. He begins, "Y’know, from the moment we met, m’life changed in ways I could ‘ave never imagined. Every day with y’has been an adventure, a journey filled with laughter, love, and countless memories."
You can hardly believe what's happening, your hands still covering your face, but your eyes peeking through, glistening with tears of joy. Harry continues, his words carrying the weight of a promise, "V’dreamt about our future together, and I can't wait any longer t’make it a reality."
With that, he opens the small velvet box, revealing the dazzling engagement ring that seems to catch every glimmer of light around it. Your heart flutters in your chest as you gaze at the ring, a symbol of the love you share.
Harry takes a deep breath, his eyes locked onto yours as he speaks from the depths of his heart, "Will you marry me, (Y/N)? Will y’be m’partner in all the adventures that life has in store f’us? Will y’share y’laughter, y’love, and y’dreams with me f’the rest of our lives?"
Tears stream down your cheeks as you slowly lower your hands from your face, revealing a radiant smile that shines through your joyful tears. You manage to find your voice, your response filled with emotion, "Yes, Harry, a thousand times yes! I want to marry you, and I can't wait to share every moment of our future together."
As you say these words, Harry's face lights up with happiness. He slips the ring onto your finger, and the two of you share a passionate, tearful embrace. In this magical moment beneath the twinkling fairy lights, you know that your love story is forever bound by the promise of a future filled with endless love, laughter, and adventures yet to be written.
As you and Harry share a passionate, tearful embrace, he brings you close and presses his lips to yours in a sweet, lingering kiss. In that moment, words seem unnecessary as your love and connection speak volumes.
He murmurs softly against your lips, "Maybe the pumpkin patch can be our forever?"
Tears of joy continue to stream down your face as you pull him closer and kiss him again, sealing your love and the promise of a beautiful forever together beneath the twinkling fairy lights of The Pumpkin Patch. It's a moment you'll cherish for a lifetime, a symbol of the love and commitment that binds your hearts.

Miss Copperdale Diner
A CC Retro Diner Car Build
Lot size: 20x15 Price: §34,585 Lot type: Restaurant Location: Town Square Terrace, Copperdale CC Required
As promised, my simblreen treat now released for everyone to enjoy on this fine halloween!
Diners have a special place in my heart, they're so iconic and timeless in this very specific way that I adore. This build is sponsored by the Kitchen of Tomorrow Set by the amazingly talented @surely-sims.
Details and download under the cut!
I named it this because a lot of the diners near where I live are named this way; Miss [name of town] Diner, and it brings me a lot of joy. Early diners were frequently delivered to their locations as a completely furnished train cars and these diners with similar names all are train car diners. I think that's neat-o and really wanted to recreate that vibe here.
This build is fully play tested and functions as a restaurant. It's decorated for the 1950s, but with some modern pieces for functionality. I think it can work anytime from 1950 to today! It includes a bar, four tables, lots of kitschy decor, a galley kitchen, bathroom/storage space, and for realism an outdoor trash/smoking area.
This build requires items from @surely-sims' Kitchen of Tomorrow Set and @linzlu's Chrome & Co. Set, the items used are included, but be sure to check our their other great stuff!!
Enjoy guys, the pie is particularly delicious!

Under the Moonlight - Part 1 - Legend of Dark Gaia
WHO'S HUNGRY FOR SOME WACHOWSKI HALLOWEEN STORIES?? (I am at least XD)
THIS STORY IS VERY LONG BUT WILL BE IN PARTS SO DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT.
Quick note: This story takes place before the sequel. Any Sonic Movie story I write like this one will be a pre-sequel story.
After a long, fun night of trick or treating, Sonic was about to head home, but came across an old friend. He thought he wanted to get some ghost stories out of him, but he was not expecting to hear something so... Nightmarish.
-
Orange, red and yellow of the leaves slowly rain down to the neighborhood in Green Hills. Sundown is completely gone, all is left is the light of the moon in the dark sky, lurking behind the almost leaf-free trees.
Children and teens of all kinds ran down the sidewalks, most on the roads, to hurry to the next houses for more of the sweet, sugary goodness that is Halloween candy.
The best kind of candy.
One group of kids come across a small house, the front lawn decorated with fake tombstones and funny looking skeletons, which appeared to be dancing by the tree.
And the door already greets them with such a, not-so threatening message: "Knock, if you dare."
One younger kid, who is dressed up as a cowgirl, rings the doorbell, and raises her small blue pumpkin bucket up high before the door opens. So did the rest of the group.
One other kid in the center of the group comes up front, the kid being Sonic, wearing a black cape with worn out gloves with "blood stains" on the tips of his fingers. He was sporting fake fangs and has red makeup drizzled down from his mouth.
He thought a vampire was the best choice for his first Halloween costume.
The door opens, revealing a young man holding an purple bowl, with drawings of spider webs going around it. The bowl was half empty, but it contained chocolates of all kinds, from milk chocolate, to peanut butter, to caramel.
"Trick or treat!" The group exclaimed, holding out their buckets and bags full of candy. "Hey, cool costumes, you guys!" They said, grabbing handfuls of chocolates and gave them to each kid.
"You guys look reeeaaal spooky, tonight. Especially you, Johnny, super scary!" They chuckled, complimenting the young boy wearing an iconic Pennywise outfit.
"What about me?" Sonic asked, being handed with a few candy bars. "Do I look spooky too?"
"Oh, yeah! You look spooky, alright! Awesome costume, Sonic!" They said.
Sonic slightly pumps his fists and quietly exclaimed, "Yes!"
In no time, all the kids got their chocolates and walked off, waving goodbye to the man. "Happy Halloween!" They all said.
Sonic also waved goodbye before leaving. "Thank you! And Happy Halloweeeeeeeeen!" He said in a spooky tone, clawing his hands before almost dropping his bucket. He giggled and ran off. "You too!" They said before closing the door.
Sonic approached Tom, with a huge smile on his face. "This night is AWESOME! I got SO much candy so far! Check it out!" He then shows off his pumpkin shaped bucket which was filled to the brim with lots of different candies.
"I got chocolates candies, sour candies, even bubble gum! And that's not even half of what I got!" He shrieked with joy, looking inside his bucket. "I know I said this a hundred times already, but, I LOVE HALLOWEEN!!"
"I know." The sheriff said, also smiling. He couldn't get enough of seeing this small hedgehog being happy over this night. "And you actually said it 17 times tonight."
"You counted?"
"Of course I did."
"...Nah, it wasn't too much."
"Right."
The vampire hedgehog then switched his bucket to his other hand, as his fingers were getting sore from the heavy bucket. "Ouch..." He then moved his fingers a little bit to give them more circulation.
"Alright! On to the next house!" He said, as he was about to run off when suddenly the Donut Lord held him by the arm. "Whoa, there! Hang on." He spoke.
"What, what? What is it? Why are we stopping?" Sonic said, getting eager and a little bit impatient to wait before heading to another house. Even his knees were bouncing non stop.
"It's almost eight o'clock." Tom looked at his phone. The clock was just a few minutes until eight. "And??" Sonic placed his gloved hand on his hip.
"It's getting late, and the day is almost over. It's time for us to head home, bud." Tom said, almost regretting saying that, considering how much fun Sonic has been having.
And he called it, as Sonic's ears flopped down and he just looked almost devastated. "What? Already?! Aw, come on!" He whined, kicking the ground. "Halloween can't be over yet! Can we go trick or treating for a few more minutes?? Please????" He cupped his hands together, pleading.
"Sorry, but we can't stay out here too late. Halloween is over til next year." He patted his head, hoping that information will calm him down.
He knew it wouldn't work, but it was worth a shot.
"I can't wait until next year. This is my first ever Halloween with you, Tom." He said sadly, looking at the ground. "I was having so much fun..."
"Hey, it's alright. Don't be sad because it's over. Be happy that it happened!" Tom placed his hand on Sonic's shoulder. "I was having fun too, and trust me, next year will be even more fun, and even more spooooookyyyyy!" Tom wiggled his fingers at the hedgehog, trying to look intimidating, but Sonic laughed at the sight.
At least that cheered him up.
"Haha! You're right! Next year will be even better than this one! I already have plans for my next costume!" He said, giggling, and looking all better already.
"Well, that was fast." Tom said, walking along with Sonic. "Duh, that's what I'm known for." Sonic jokingly boasted, catching up to him.
"I'll give you a hint: BRRAAAAIINNS!!" Sonic roared, reaching his hands out and walking slowly and weakly like a zombie.
"Oh, boy. I wonder what it could be..." Tom taps his chin with his finger, pretending to think really hard on what this costume could be.
"I'm gonna go all out on that costume next year! Just you wait!" He beamed up a confident smile, thinking on how his zombie costume will look.
Maddie was the one who helped out his costume, and even buying an extra pair of gloves to make it look better. He knows that she can make a great zombie costume.
"Why not a zombot? That's more iconic."
"Ehhhh, I'm good." He chuckled nervously. "I'll just stick to old school, thank you very much."
Sonic cringed at the memory of his first horror movie night with Tom, Maddie and Wade. It was just gonna be the three of them, but the moment Sonic over heard them say "horror," he couldn't take no for an answer.
He wished he did though. He wasn't expecting Night of The Zombots to be so... Gory.
At least Nicholas Cage looked pretty badass in the film.
"And I thought Poltergeist was freaking scary..." He mumbled to himself.
"I heard that."
"The movie wasn't that scary! Besides, you can tell the CGI was fake even from the first viewing!" He crossed his arms, trying to act tough.
"It was from the 2000s, it was the first Visual Effects movie Studiopolis Productions worked on." Tom stated.
"Whatever."
"You should see the remake. It's twice as scary." Tom teased.
"Oh, God, there's a remake?!" Sonic squealed with concern.
And he blinked. "Uh, I mean, I bet that movie also sucked."
"Hey, now." Donut Lord said, kneeling down to Sonic's level. "Don't hide the fact that the movie made you feel uncomfortable, alright? You even admitted it yourself that night."
"I'm just not used to expressing myself, dude. You know that."
"I do know that, but I'm here to remind that your feelings matter, okay?"
"...I knew that." He smile crept on his muzzle.
"Okay, let's head home." Tom continued walking off with Sonic alongside, bucket still in his hand. Sonic watched all the kids and teens in different costumes roaming the streets. He felt sad at first, but smiled once again knowing that he'll be able to do this all over again next year.
He really does love Halloween.
-
"Finally, we made it home." Tom sighed, happy to see his house. Sonic didn't even knew that the house was close by cause his mind was elsewhere. "Already? Geez."
"What's up, buddy?"
"Didn't you see that one house that was covered in egg yolk a few minutes ago??" He points behind him.
"Ahh, must've been Karen and Issac's little trick." Tom barked slightly. The young teens are pretty rebellious, and not in a good way. They get in trouble in school more times than anyone else in town, and sometimes draw nasty messages on buildings.
And to make them worse, they despise Sonic, even though he saved the town not too long ago.
They always call him dumb nicknames like "man-hog" or "blue rat." Sonic always hated "man-hog" the most.
But he brushed them off, he knew they were just jealous because he's the one who saved the town from Robotnik. But, of course, Issac and Karen are a total pain to not just Sonic, but to the majority of Green Hills.
Especially Wade.
"...Oh." Sonic just now realized who that house belonged to. "Poor Wade..."
"That's the third Halloween in a row." Tom shook his head.
"I hope it's easy to clean off."
"Trust me, it was not." He knew from experience.
Sonic was able to see his house from a distance, and he can already see his own fake tombstones and other spooky decorations and fake webs swaying in the gentle wind.
He smiled, excited to show Maddie all the candy he got tonight.
He was about to move forward but then suddenly notice a bright light from within the forest far from the house. It drove his attention away from the house and idea of heading back home.
What was that just now? He thought, looking behind him and looking closely into the woods.
Nothing else was happening. The light didn't even appear again. Maybe it was just his imagination?
"Hmm..."
"Buddy?" Tom called out, just realizing that Sonic stopped walking and is now ahead of him. "I, uh... I'll be right back." Sonic said, zooming straight into the forest, along with his bucket of candy.
"Sonic?!" Tom cried out. "Where are you going??" Sonic was already gone by the time he finished his question.
-
Sonic continued walking through the woods searching for the source of the light that went by earlier. He had ideas on what that was.
A car driving by? Perhaps.
Some guy wearing a super bright costume? Maybe...
A firefly? ...Yeah, no. That's not it.
"Hello?" Sonic called out. "Anybody out here?"
There was no response, but he kept searching anyway.
He came to a halt however, when he suddenly saw the light peaking through the trees. It's the same one from before. He found it!
Sonic zipped straight to the source, only to find...
"An RV?" Sonic looked around it, realizing how familiar it looked. "Hey... This is-"
"Blue Devil!"
A voice cried out, making Sonic jumped and dropped his bucket, pouring out candy onto the ground. "My candy!" He panicked, grabbing them back to the bucket quickly. "Nonononono..."
"Ahh, didn't mean to frighten ya." The voice spoke from close by. Sonic, while he was still putting candy back, looked up to see none other than Carl putting away his things into the RV. It was hard to tell, but he had a small smile behind that bushy beard of his.
"Crazy Carl! it's been a while, old pal! I thought you were at Spring Valley?" Sonic said, picking back up his bucket, all the candy back inside.
"Ah just wanna pay a little visit before ah head back." He spoke. "Maybe sometime the next day I should give the sheriff a good ol' visit and-" Carl was then distracted by Sonic's costume. "That's a... Interesting outfit ya have there."
"Like it? I'm a vampire!" Sonic said, clawing his gloved hands, looking spooky. "BLEECH!"
Carl was unamused. "Ya call that scary? How is a vampire scary?"
"You don't like it? ...Rude."
"It's called an 'honest opinion,' ya Blue Devil. Ah've seen scarier things than a vampire out of all things."
"Oh?" Sonic raised a brow from that statement. "Knowing you, and considering the time of year," Sonic's smile grew wider, in love with the sudden idea that just popped into his head. "Perhaps maybe you should... Oh, I don't know..."
"What? Spit it out, already." Carl demanded calmly.
"Heheh." This is gonna be good.
"Carl, you must've seen and heard about a lot of interesting stories in your life. I would love to know these stories and why they are so much more scarier than vampires." Sonic placed down his bucket on the ground in front of his feet.
"Well now, you better be takin' these stories seriously. These aren't just like those phony ghost stories the children often tell." Carl began. "These are real. Very much real." He said, in the coldest tone possible.
"In that case, enough stalling. What story do you have in mind, buddy ol' pal?" He crossed his arms, ready to hear some of Crazy Carl's tales. "Please, make me shudder in fear." He "pleaded."
"If that's what ya truly want..."
Sonic then grabbed his bucket closer to him as he sat down to the closest log. He kicked his feet slightly, eager to hear this spooky story.
"Now, this tale is even older than I am. Passed down from generation to generation in this very part of the woods. It's well known back in Spring Valley, but most parts of your town was effected by it as well." He began.
"'It?' Who, or what, is 'it?'"
"Dark Gaia."
The hedgehog's eyes grew with fascination. "Dark Gaia? You mean like... Gaia as in Earth? I think Maddie taught me about that one-"
"Blue Devil, don't interrupt."
"Sorry, haha. I'll stay quiet."
"Anyways," Carl continued his story.
"The legend of Dark Gaia came from an incident that happened a few hundred years ago, just after Green Hills was founded. Dark Gaia itself was a large, dark being unlike any creature. Horror beyond comprehension."
"Like a being from hell."
"Sheesh..." Sonic said to himself. He continued to listen to Carl's story.
"The creature never dares to come out from the Earth, only it's energy and it's vile minions called Nightmares. It's Dark Gaia energy is an, almost invisible like smoke, that roams the woods, searching for their new Nightmare for the Dark Gaia."
"The Nightmares are big beings, their bodies have glowing auras that even the blindest of critters can see. They have blue and red marking on their shoulders and face, and their number one priority? Consume a living, breathing being's soul, to help them become stronger."
The hedgehog is super intrigued, if not, creeped out. Maybe it's both.
"You ever come across a Nightmare, that's it. You can't escape 'em. The moment they see you, that's the end of your story. Never to be seen or heard of again. Thankfully, it's been too long since a Nightmare has been spotted, but the Dark Gaia's energy still roams about the forest of Spring Valley and most of Green Hills."
Sonic looked around a bit, searching for anything strange like the energy Carl was talking about, but he continued listening.
"Three young men wanted to explore Spring Valley, and perhaps find something valuable along the way. It was a full moon that night. Just like tonight."
Sonic looked up at the dark sky, and there it was. The moon, full and bright. He felt a cold sweat. He looked back at Carl.
"Dark Gaia's energy, including the Nightmares, only appears during a full moon. They can't roam around in broad daylight, and only appear during the midnight hour. The moon will glow a light shade of purple once the time comes, and the young men made a grim mistake that faithful night."
"Dark Gaia energy sometimes seeks through the ground, escaping the Earth to finds it's new minion. Once it does, you better get your butt out of there woods, unfortunately for the men, they didn't follow that rule."
"One fella felt strange just after a few minutes of being in the woods. He ignored the raging feeling of Dark Gaia's energy, infesting his brain with feral thoughts, thoughts filled with rage and hunger."
"It wasn't too long before his friends come across him on the ground, in pain, the Dark Gaia energy unleashing from his body, completely transforming him into something awful."
"He was partiality a Dark Gaia creature, fur purple, with a hint of a darker blue. He was bigger, and more muscle than he was before. He's grown sharp claws, and his teeth have grown sharper as well. He's was a half complete monster."
Sonic lets out a small gasp.
"He was still himself, but the feral thoughts kept trying to reach out, begging him to rip his friends to shreds and join Dark Gaia. Legends also says however, that there is a way to rid of the Dark Gaia's energy from your body, and bring you back."
"It was the Light Gaia's bracelet, hidden somewhere in Green Hills. But from where they are, Green Hills was too far, and the moment they reached their destination, it was too late. His feral instincts took over and one of his friends... Never made it alive."
Sonic's eyes grew in horror. "Wh... What about-?"
"The other was fine. ...For a while. When the infested friend attacked him, some of Dark Gaia's energy went inside of him. When the sun came up, the beast disappeared into the woods and was ascended into the Earth, forever one with Dark Gaia, never to be cured."
"And soon will be his friend the next full moon. For now, it was just him and his inner thoughts haunting him for days. No one in town believed him when he told them everything. Some folks venture into the woods to see what the commotion was about."
"Last mistake they ever made in their lives..."
Sonic covered his mouth slightly.
"Dark Gaia's energy is still out here somewhere, hundreds and hundreds of years later. It's been a long time since the Dark Gaia found it's new minions, but I highly doubt Dark Gaia will give up."
Crazy Carl lets out a long exhausted sigh.
"I believe it is impossible to avoid Dark Gaia, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to rid of it. That is, if Light Gaia's bracelet is found, of course. Many folks were unlucky to come across a Nightmare, but becoming one is the worst of all."
"No one knows, not even Dark Gaia itself, knows who the next victim will be. I might be the town's sheriff."
Sonic's eyes grew more.
"Or maybe the deputy, Whipple."
They grew again.
"Or maybe even me."
Sonic held his own hand, wanting Carl to stop talking already.
Carl's brow furrowed. "Or maybe..." Carl then stared right at the blue hedgehog. "Maybe..."
Sonic gasped again.
"It might..."
Sonic felt a cold chill in the air.
"Be..."
Could it be...?
"Sonic??" A voice called out.
"NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
Both Tom and Crazy Carl both jumped at Sonic's sudden cry of terror. He breathed rather quickly, his mind still on the Dark Gaia story. Carl was slightly surprised to see Sonic like that.
"Ya didn't have to take it that seriously."
Tom looked over to see Carl. It all makes sense now. "Ah... Carl. It's been a while." He spoke flatly. "What are you doing out here?"
"Visiting." He responded. "Your Blue Devil here come up out here wanting to say 'hi.'"
Tom looked to see the hedgehog turning around to see his best friend. "Tom!" He cried and ran up to him, jumping up to give him a big hug. "I was looking all over for you, buddy! Why'd you run off?"
"My lights caught his attention."
"Carl, what did you do?" Tom looked back at Crazy Carl, with a stern look in his eyes.
"Reminding him about Dark Gaia. Remember, Wachowski, it's a full moon tonight." Carl warned quietly. "Keep that kid of yours safe. From it."
"...What?"
"Alright, I'm off. Nice seein' ya, ya Blue Devil! You too, sheriff!" He exclaimed before walking back inside the RV. Tom shook his head, not standing the audacity of that guy.
"Ooookay, I'm not sure what the heck just happened, but we're heading back home. Maddie's waiting for us." Tom said, carrying the shaking hedgehog back to the house.
"But Tom! Dark Gaia! What if it's out here?!" Sonic said, looking around the forest frantically. Tom groaned. "Sonic, there's no such thing as Dark Gaia. It's just a silly story made up by some kids a long time ago."
"But Crazy Carl said the story was real!"
"Carl tends to believe in a lot of stupid crap. That's his style. Now don't worry about it."
"Oh, yeah? How about that time when he told you guys about the 'Blue Devil,' which turned out to be real, who by the way, is ME??"
"Well- I- That's different."
"HOW IS THAT DIFFERENT?!"
"Sonic, please, just calm down. Okay? There is no Dark Gaia energy coming to get you. You hear me? You're fine. There is no Dark Gaia energy." Tom reassured, looking at the hedgehog.
Sonic sighed, looking at the ground. "Okay... Fine. I believe you."
"Okay. Good. ...Hey, where's your-?"
"MY BUCKET!"
Sonic jumped back on the ground, looking for his Halloween bucket. "Buddy," Tom spoke. "it's over there." He pointed to the bucket next to the log.
"Uhhh..." Sonic looked at the bucket, then into the abyss that is the woods, where possibly Nightmares and Dark Gaia energy are lurking. "You get it, I'm not going back there."
"For the love of..." Tom massaged the bridge of his nose. "Sonic, there's no Dark Gaia, okay? It's fine, go get your bucket. It'll take you about 0.4 seconds to grab it and head home."
"R-Right. I knew that. I'll just..." Sonic takes one small step. Then stopped.
"...Sonic."
"Right, right, Sorry. I'll get my bucket and..."
He took another step.
And another.
And another.
"Sonic, I promise you, you're okay." Tom said softly.
Sonic inhaled...
Then exhaled.
"I'm not scared. I am not scared.
He quickly grabbed his bucket and ran off screaming, leaving trails of candy behind.
"...Well, that was easy." Tom said to himself.
He began picking up the pieces of candy as he follows down the trail Sonic ran off to.

Top 12 Captain Holt Plots (B99): RIP Andre Braugher
Tumblr media
Andre Braugher 1962-2023
So as if this year hadn't piled enough death on me.. yesterday Andre Braugher of Brooklyn 99 fame died. Braugher was a comedic genius, great at drama and it's sad to see him go just as his career was having one hell of a second act.
Figuring out how to honor Andre.. was tough. I didn't have time for a full review of some of his best episodes, a story arc or the normal things i'd do, and a list of just Holt's best moments wouldn't really portray the characters depth. Don't get me wrong there's a LOT of hilarious little holt moments from "Hot damn!" to "Bam had it both ways" but it just didn't do the character justice. Holt was a character funny for his stoicism, his outburst of emotion clashing with that, and his chemistry with just about everyone on cast.
So I found a comprimise, something small I could do before my two bigger reviews this week, but something that still pays full service to what a great character Raymond Holt was... and how much of it was Braugher's amazing comedic timing and great dramatic talent. Ray MIGHT of existed without Captain Holt, but he wouldn't of been such a JOY to watch every time if it weren't for Braugher.
So I picked my 12 faviorite plots starring Captain Holt. Husband, Captain, Robot. Meeep Morp.
Tumblr media
12. VINDICATTTTITOOOOOONNNN (Episode: Monster in the Closet)
Look a lot of this subplot making it here is this moment, from the fist pump to just how Braugher plays the word like an instrument, but the plot itself is comedy gold: Rosa Diaz, bisexual icon, is having a rush wedding to absentee boyfriend and human disaster Adrian Pimento, who returned after months in hiding the way anyone having a normal one does: by hiding in a child's closet.
Naturally this wedding didn't end up happening.. but it did bring us one of Holt's best running gags: his love of balloon arches. It's something that makes perfect character sense: he's a perfectionist, he loves art, and it's just weird enough to still be funny while not so weird you can't understand why Holt would be doing this. Holt pettily popping the ballons when crticized and going into a creative tailspin over minor critcisims is just gold and the payoff, him getting his VINDIIIICAAAATTTIOOOONNNNNN is both sweet.. and purespun gold from the highest of heavens.
Tumblr media
11. The Disco Strangler Returns (He Said She Said) One of the serious episodes of the series, dealing with Amy and Jake tackling a sexual harassment case and Amy revealing her own assault, was paired with one of the series silliest, funnest b-plots.
This one COULD be here just on the strength of "And you'll here it again" but has way more to offer as Holt chases down his former nemesis the Disco Strangler after he seemingly dies, convinced he's alive while Terry and Boyle are convinced he just can't accept his enemey's death. Turns out their wrong though as the Strangler is alive, worked his groovy voodoo on a way younger woman and has one of the funniest scenes in the show as Holt TRIES to have a big action hero final talk with his nemisis.. only for the man to be largely deaf. It's a gag that shoudln't work but Baugher's commitment to the bit carries it, as does the reality of the strangler being so old and feeble hitting Raymond about his own mortality.
Tumblr media
10. The Heists (Various Episodes)
Yeah this one's a bit of a cheat as it was hard to pick just one Heist Plot: After the first two their largely ensemble pieces. But it'd also be criminal to ignore just how SERIOUS Holt takes the annual halloween heists, from training his dog for them, to calling a fake replacement for Cheddar (the goodest of boys) "This bitch?", the Heists brought out the pettiest, hammiest parts of holt and the best of Braugher's comedey from threatning to slit his two protege's "from head to anus and wear them as a jacket", to his flight of the valkyries entrance, Holt was always a delight.
Tumblr media
9. Pie (Two Turkey's) The shows final thanksgiving gave us it's best thanksgiving plot, and a nice spotlight on Holt's relationship with his Husband , kevin. Holt's queerness was baked into the character, being why it took him so long to climb the latter and why Kevin takes ab it to warm up to his new coworkers, as most of Ray's past coworkers were racist, homophobic or both. Holt and Kevin were just as weirdly stoic, with Mark Evan Jackson having great chemistry with Braugher.
The couple also just had their own weird things such as getting a special pie every year to get a pie for thanksgiving and finding the hours spent in dead silence on the trip deeply romantic.
Said pie is also what sets off the plot as it goes missing and Holt blames the presicnt and goes into full petty holt mode, one of the best kinds of holt. HOlt isn't the only star here as near constant fuckups and wallpaper Hitchcock and Scully prove useful for once as Holt investigates Rosa, Terry and Boyle. We get great moments from the three too as Boyle calls his own son "a basic bitch" and Rosa reveals an embarassing minons t-shirt as she rebonds with her family post jailtime.
Holt interogating everyone and going full ham would be enough to land it here.. but what elevates it to this slot is the ending: Holt finds out the culprit was Kevin, who hates the pie but would miss the drive. HOlt suggests simply.. taking the drive for fun and Kevin is super horny for that. It's adorable, sweet and a great capper to one of the shows best subplots.
Tumblr media
8. Let's Never Talk About Anything (Stakeout)
This is a quick one as it's mostly on the comedy but it's a scenario that's both deeply, deeply funny, and involves one of the shows best duos: Rosa, the stoic bicon herself, and Holt. Both being stoic queer persons, they naturally get along great. And of course it's natural Rosa ends up the one in a very awkward situation through almost no fault of her own: Holt brings his cardboard standee of a human being Nephew named Marcus, whose staying with him for some reason never elaborated upon because Marcus is here for one thing: to date rosa and have one of the best awkward morning afters EVER: He tries to sneak rosa out.. only for Holt and Kevin to naturally both be up, and his using her full name and mild confusion are just.. great. The wrap up, that Rosa and Holt are both FINE not talking about this or anything ever, is great. The followup plot with the two forced into a dinner is fine, but this first interaction and the two being on the same stoic page is gold.
Tumblr media
7. Apparently That's a Trigger For Me (The Box)
This is another one that has a strong moment couched in, but really the Box is just a very strong episode, a tense 22 minutes as Jake and Holt team up to try and get a confession out of a local dentist played by sexiest man alive Sterling K Brown, who does great getting under their skin, including with said doctor bit as Docterates are a bit of a trigger for Holt. the episodes fantastic chess match between our faviorite duo and Brown is just fun to watch and it's only this low because Jake gets the big finale. But Holt's oh damns are still vital. As is his over the top reservation cancelation. God bless this man. I miss you andre.
Tumblr media
6. They never actually said No (Full Boyle)
Like, really, ALL of these there's a classic gag couched in here as Holt explains how he formed his black gay and lesbian police orginzation: he pitched it to his fellow entirely white and certainly straight cops who laughed their asses off.. then went ahead and got the funds since they were too busy being jackassses to say no. Dark, hilarious, and perfectly showing just how much shit holt's been through trying to get here.
And that background helps shape this plot which while not laugh FREE is mostly anchored on the good Captain's character journey: when a younger officer plans to challenge holt for predsency, Holt, as you'd expect digs in and refuses. He's not at full ham yet, but he's still fully willing to fight tooth and nail for this, that after all he had to go just to make this group, brian wouldn't understand
It's Gina of all characters who points out that's why he made the group. So younger officers wouldn't have to go through that. Brian has new ideas to genuinely improve and open up the doors for more queer black officers, and Holt recognizes that and steps aside.. though if he screws up he will impeach him. He's happy for him but he will impeach him.
Tumblr media
5. I've Glanced At His Work Satchel (The Honeypot)
This episode's a-plot is just one long hilaroius bit of holt deadpanning as he gets a new assitant to replace Gina.. only to find the guy flirting with him. Having his tie slightly ajar and inviting him to a barrel museum counts as flirting in Holt's book. Turns out Gordon is a spy for our heroes latest nemisiss, corrupt comissioner kelly, and this brings this plot to ahead as finding out, and getting evidence hw as actively spying on them finally gets rid of the old bastard. It's a nice payoff.. but it's really here because Holt declaring a barrel museum an erotically charged atmosphere is classic deadpan holt. If you want premium deadpan holt, this is your episode.

4. Terry Come Here and Dangle Me Off the Edge of this Building (Bad Beat)
This episode is one of my faviorites, having both a lot of rich character stuff for holt.. and a lot of funny deadpan for holt.
This ep reawakens something that's mostly come up previously as a joke: holt had a serious gambling addiction in his past and when Jake and Terry come to him for help with a poker case, Holt's forced to join in as the two have obvious tells.
Holt's relapse is a nice mix of hilaroius and deeply troubling: he's betting on childrenj's gymnastics (No jayla don't drop the baton!) runs up to the roof when the pagent's cut off and as seen above wants Terry to dangle him over a roof.. Braugher does a hell of a job threading a very narrow needle here: Hotl's antics are funny, but still jarring enough to be worrying.. .and the laughter stop when Jake pulls the one card he has... he'll tell kevin, an idea alone that DEVISTATES holt as he can't put kevin through that again.
Unfortunately it's not THAT easy as Holt goes rogue.. then nearly gets captured, having to use improper grammar and admitting he needs help. Ther'es no easy answers here and while granted Holt's addiction never comes up again.. it's a sign addiction dosen't go away easily and everyone needs help.

3. The System (Moo Moo) Props to Brooklyn 99 as depsite being a cop show, it pointed out many a problem in the NYPD and police in general long before George Floyd made it too loud to ignore for us white dumbasses.
This episode is the main showcase of that: while the show had plenty of corrupt cops for our heroes to foil, Moo Moo shows the system ITSELF is broken and ther'es no easy answer to fix it.
The setup is simple, heartbreakingly common, and painful: Terry goes out at night in his nice neighborhood looking for one of his daughters "moo moo", her faviorite toy.. only to get accosted by a police officer, with only the fact he IS an officer making this end well.
Terry does try to handle this peacefully, inviting the guy to lunch, and trying to explain why racial profiling him like that was fucking awful. The officer dosen't listen, only thinks he was wrong because Terry is also a cop, and is generally a dick.
This leaves terry, who has a promotion on the table, with a fairly simple path: report the son of a bitch. Except .. HOlt dosne't send it in. Holt wants Terry to stay quiet, so Terry can get promoted. it's one of the oldest fights in a broken system: Should you make noise and take care of something horrible immdeitly, or stay quite and let harm go on so you can do more good later. The latter is clearly Holt's go to not out of corruption but out of survival: as a black gay cop, he had no real allies for the longest time, and thus had to simply keep his nose to the ground and work his way up to where he had real power. Terry on the other hand, argues, rightly that he dosen't want another man like him to go through this, one without a badger and that his career... simply isn't worth more innocnet black men being arrested falsely. There isn't an easy resolution with both acknowlding each others point: Holt supports terry and gets the guy fired, but Terry is passed over impliclty as a result and admits he could've impacted more change. Terry still did the right thing.. but it wasn't the easy thing. Police.. .simply aren't set up to properly police themselves and change is needed and it was noble of b99 to point that out without going over the top with it.

2. BOONNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEE (The Skyfire Cycle)
Okay look while this plot is good on it's own (I"m teaching father the math!) it's up this high ENTIRELY due to the Bone Scene. You've seen it, i've seeen it, it's the reason this plot goes from "pretty good" with Rosa seeing through holt's math problem to his marital issues and need to get laid, and Amy trying hard to impress her dads and acting lik ea grossed out child anytime holt's sex life comes up. This bit belongs to braugher.. but you NEED Beatriz and Fumero to set it up so perfectly and react so great to it.
Rosa being rosa just comes out and says "You just need to bone" and holt LOOOSES IT.
youtube
Every line from that moment is pure poetry from Braugher's mouth, from his squeaky "what'dyousay" to his shakesperean "hooooowww dare you detective diaz I AM YOUR SUPERIOR OFFICER." and of course his glorious shouts of BONE and BONNNNENEEEEE while he VIBRATES ON HIS DOORFRAME. His quick yups in the resolution are the cheery on top of the greatest comedy sundae ever conducted by man. Sports. This subplot hinges on one joke.. but when it's the series best joke, it's REALLY hard to argue. It's only not #1.. because our #1 is CRAMMED with jokes near this level.
Tumblr media
Ding Dong The Wuntch Is Dead (Ding Dong)
Ding Dong is one of my faviorite episodes of B99. Even it's subplot's grown on me with Terry bending a quarter in mid air and the strawberry basket. But let's face it while the subplot is.. kay, it's the main event that makes it a classic and when I do the inevetible top 12 list, possibly for feburary, this episode is almost guarnateed a spot for damn good reason.
If your wondering why I haven't brought up Holt's legendary rivarly with Madeline Wuntch it's because while their all fucking gold, their teid into larger plots. And while this one kinda is, with Wuntch's death wrapping up Holt's time as a patrol officer, it's really just there to sned the character off and give us one of the funniest episodes in human history.
Everything about Holt's petty rivarly with Wuntch that makes it one of the best thigns in the show is on display here and the shock I had to the opening of ding dong was palpable: Holt's making his usual jabs, calling her a korean tolilet ghost (and having gone to korea just to find new monsters to call her).. before Terry, trying and failing to head this off drops the bomb: Wuntch is dead. Naturally Holt dosen't buy it, assuming we'd hear the children singing (all the childrne everywhere), and having to see her body for himself. Given their rivarly and what an elaborate scheme Wuntch left FOR her funeral, it's not hard to see why.
What follows is the very best of petty holt from the glory that is BAGEL, BAGEL, to his assumption ET is a monster because "he caused quite a comotion), Baugher is at his PEAK this episode comedically, handeling his Rival's death with joy and too many lines to count, with Amy's horror and Rosa's unabashed joy at his pettiness being perfect bounce off points.
Add in comedy legend Micheal Mcdonald as Wuntch's nephew playing her rival, a fake funeral and an attempted funmeral full of balloon arches and bright pastels and you have one of the greatest peices of televesion comedy ever. Rest in peace Andre.... your dearly missed.

Saw Halloween Thoughtcanons
It’s no longer Halloween…this was definitely meant to go up yesterday…but it sat in my notes. 👻
John Kramer 🪚
As the years pass it amazes John how many individuals begin to dress as Billy the Puppet. Now the pig masks and red robes are also starting to catch on. They have no respect for the work he is doing, reducing it to games of dress up. Playing pretend. But John has always enjoyed Hitchcock, Kubrick and such horror greats and will gladly put one on while he works. When the doorbell does ring, John will get up and diligently offer the candy bowl to the good kids. Any teenagers looking to fill their greedy pockets are turned away with a sharp word. One look from John Kramer is enough to send them back down the street.
Amanda Young 💉
The lawless nature of Halloween is why Amanda adores the holiday. She roams the streets in her apprentice outfit and for one day of the year she’s complimented and adored by all for her antics and incredible portrayal of a Jigsaw Apprentice. No horror maze is too scary, Amanda let’s herself get high on adrenaline as she grins back at the clowns and dares the chainsaw wielding actors to get a little closer. She’s a survivor. There is nothing she cannot handle. She makes it back to her place around 3am, her mouth sticky from something sweet she ate and Amanda passes out onto the couch with her pig mask in hand. Another holiday well spent.
Mark Hoffman 🚨
Hoffman hasn’t celebrated Halloween since his sister died. October 31st always meant fresh Pumpkin Pie on the table and heaping helpings of whipped cream. He hasn’t been able to stomach the flavour for seven years now. Since joining Jigsaw there is no joy to be found in the horrific and the obscene, not when it has become his daily 9 to 5. He’s a favourite at the precinct because Hoffman will gladly stay late to avoid the incessant ringing of his doorbell, despite never putting a pumpkin outside. But he will indulge his sweet tooth and takes full advantage of the bulk bags of sweets he takes off perps who get rung up for petty crimes.
Lawrence Gordon 🩺
Halloween can be busy at the hospital, people tend to act stupid on Halloween and let their loose morals guide them. But with Alison despising all things horror after their abduction, Lawrence takes it upon himself to give his daughter Diana the full experience. He will wear whatever costume she dictates, this year being the Powerpuff Girls and he the evil Mojo Dojo. The best the costume store and Amazon had to offer! Trick or treating involves making sure his daughter is always safe and telling the occasional fabricated about his time in the bathroom to parents who recognise him. The cane always gives it away. Once Diana is asleep for the night, Lawrence turns his attention to the other child - Adam. He usually ends up picking his fellow survivor up from whatever party or rave at 5 in the morning.
Adam Stanheight-Faulkner (Bonus) 📸
For Adam, Halloween is a week long event. He keeps his costumes old school horror icons - Freddy, Jason…and Luke Skywalker, because which kid didn’t want to be a Jedi?! Lawrence has unfortunately been subjected to a few duo costumes at Adam’s request. He drew the line when Adam asked about going as his rotting foot. Halloween is for late night partying, dancing Thriller. He point blank refuses to go bobbing for apples, submerging himself in water takes him back to the bathroom. Adam delights in the fictional because he knows there are true horrors in his reality.
Bonus bonus 🎃
At the lair, the Jack O Lantern carving station is the most used workbench all month. Amanda’s are half butchered monstrosities, she gets all her frustrations out of her poor pumpkins. Children carve better pumpkins than Hoffman, he’s never done it before though, so you’ve got to cut him some slack. Gordon uses his surgical and anatomical expertise to create the most gruesome lanterns. They have guts spewing out of wounds, vomiting up their insides. They are gruesome enough to have even John wonder how anyone can make such monstrosities. Adam makes a series of Jack-O-Lanterns which mirror the Jigsaw crew. He stole Hoffman’s police cap and was nearly pummelled when the Detective found it a week later. No one can compete with John’s intricate creations, but then again having a high spec laser cutter makes light work. The Billy Jack-O-Lantern stands in first place.

Now that you’ve had some more time to become a phannie I’m curious about how your journey is going and I have some questions I’d love for you to answer if you have the time.
What is it about dnp that has made you love them so quickly?
Do you have a favorite video? Or videos?
Have you been able to catch up on some of their older content? What’s your favorite older video?
And do you enjoy their solo content? Do you have favorite solo videos for each of them?
And, finally, what has been your favorite moment as a phannie so far?
Hello there, thank you so much for the ask! But be warned, this is going to be a long one (I fully blame it on you because you asked some great questions).
What is it about dnp that has made you love them so quickly?
If we're talking about what made me love them so quickly it honestly boils down to one very simple thing: their chemistry. Because Dan is right, it is fucking unmatched.
One thing you need to know about me is that I've always been very drawn to duos with dynamics adjacent to DnP's.
(One could argue I always wanted those previous duos to have the kind of chemistry DnP have but they never were quite there. I think that's a conversation for another time though.)
Okay, but what is it about their chemistry that's so captivating?
For me it's the familiarity between them. The teasing, the fondness, them bringing out the best and worst in each other (let's be honest, it's mostly the worst), their stupid jokes and humor. The way they know and trust each other. Human connection is always something beautiful to witness and to see two people who have so clearly found each other just makes my heart sing (out pure but loving jealousy) (yes, they're making my aroace ass crave having a connection like theirs with someone).
Some other factors that made me fall so quickly were that I had been missing the excitement of being in an active fandom with new content and also, I just really needed a distraction from life (don't worry, I'm fine, just regular first semester uni things (first exam in a week, pray for me)).
So when they came waltzing along with their stupid hijinks and their pure, infectious queer joy they quite simply made me happy. And so I stayed.
Do you have a favorite video? Or videos?
I wouldn't say I have one favourite but there are some videos I keep coming back to again and again for the vibes.
In this line up we have this year's halloween baking, the mukbang, giving the people what they want...
Actually, pretty much all of their "collabs" (this word doesn't seem right for them but you know what I mean) during the hiatus are very dear to me. There's something so special about them, probably because they were setteling into their new uncensored dynamic? Or because these videos mostly felt so chill and domestic, like they were just kind of hanging out? (parasocialness warning activated!) (Is this the right place to mention how much I love the stereo shows?)
The gamingmas videos are still too fresh and too much for me to pass judgement, but I think my current favourites are the pinof reaction vid (purely for the chaos) and it takes two (because it was so damn good).
Oh, and then there's big. But we'll get to that later.
Have you been able to catch up on some of their older content? What’s your favorite older video?
I have been watching their older content quite regularly but it still feels like I've barely scratched the surface honestly.
Sure, I've covered a good chunk of the most iconic and important ones but I'm nowhere near a point where I would say I am genuinely caught up. Which definitely has its upsides because I can allow myself to be picky about what to watch.
Generally speaking I do feel myself gravitating much more towards the "newer" old content, starting in like 2017-ish. There are obviously some very good videos before that as well but so often it just feels something is off...or missing.
Some of my favourites I can think of right now are keep talking, dream daddy, honestly all of the baking vids and the impossible quiz. And the pinofs, obviously.
And do you enjoy their solo content? Do you have favorite solo videos for each of them?
Yes, i do! However I do have a very different relationship to each of their solo contents.
Phil's (newer) videos just feels like a nice warm hug. I really enjoy watching it more casually. They're so very Phil every single time and I love this man, so it's a perfect deal honestly. I'm almost guaranteed to leave them with a smile on my face.
My favourite kind of his videos are probably the ones where he tells stories because he is amazingly (badum tss) good at it. Whether it's draw my life or some random anecdotes of whatever Weird Thing happened to him this time, Phil will find a way to make it interesting and entertaining.
Also, probably a quite random and niche video I really liked was the stereo one with Seth (whom I've known for quite a while). Phil brought out such a cool side of Seth, it was so nice to watch??
Okay, now on to Dan. I fear I'm about to out myself as a dannie because Jesus fucking Christ, he made this personal.
He makes me cry. No, literally, i have cried (ugly) on multiple occasions when watching his videos.
He makes me care. Yes, about him and his happiness, whatever.
He makes me relate a bit too much. You know, something about being queer and existential fear.
He also makes me feel like maybe, maybe it will be okay.
Look, I like his less serious content that he still puts so much thought into. I thoroughly enjoyed what he did with dystopia daily because apparently I am susceptible to whatever this kind of humor he has going on is. But none of that compares to big. And I think at some point that warrants a whole sappy post on its own because I really need to slow myself down here and it's almost 2 am.
And, finally, what has been your favorite moment as a phannie so far?
For some reason the first thing that comes to mind is the goddamn catboy thing. Starting with nora predicting the merch, the merch itself, the email, and finally the pictures...it's hysterical and surreal and I hate that I can't think of anything better right now. It's probably the pure shock and disbelief of opening the notif and seeing those pictures that has overwritten everything else. Also, the discourse here on that day was amazingly unhinged (let's just forget about the Twitter aftermath).
Catboy incident aside, gamingmas as a whole has been intense but also genuinely so much fun. I just love being able to come here every single day and scream with everyone about the most pointless little things that mean the world (to us). We really do have a nice thing going on here, in our little, not-so-obscure corner of tumblr.
And gods, we're not even halfway through. I am soso excited for what they have planned because it sure as fuck won't be any more tame than what they had going on so far.
THE END
(finally. if you came this far, have a cookie 🍪)
