RuneStone my dark love letter to you this year. I have put love, blood and many hidden secrets into these objects. Some you can only find during gameplay, others will only show themselves when you aren't directly looking.

RuneStone is an 68 asset large set full of Gothic, dark and mostly functional items. I'm going to list a few highlights below the catalog. It is mostly BGC, but what needs a pack will be properly named as such.

A pocket door is a door that slides into walls. It's especially nice to look at in dark academia builds and haunted mansions.

A SHROMP that acts as an anti-monster toy. Many thanks to @surely-sims for the original iconic SHROMP!

A rounded bar to fill out small rounded spaces. These are seamless, so don't hesitate to put them into your turrets or belfry.

Lots of visual effects that you can toggle on and off.

A see-through dungeon floor, anyone?

Two TVs that don't look like TVs. Who has a flatscreen in an medieval castle? One slots to things, the other has slots.

Stairs. As in, a staircase you use in BB mode. Not much else to say there.

Dormer windows and matching fake roofing, as well as enough stained glass to make a cathedral weep in joy.

This set is tagged as Vintage and Storybook furniture style and will behave appropriately in-game.

I was constantly asking which design was the weakest, why, and how to fix it. Whenever I tested without the magical comet behind it, people could only guess who comet was by process of elimination.

I didn't want to rely on throwing icons into the design. I wanted each one to communicate through shape and silhouette alone. It would be like drawing a little cherub with a bow and arrow floating along with cupid. If you have to include a nametag to communicate, your design can be improved.

So I tried a few different strategies to say "comet" before I realized I could twist the antlers into any shape I wanted. I was worried I would have to discard the drawing and restart from scratch! Which is what I did for rudolph about 6 times before I had a breakthrough.

Then I gave my patrons a brief lesson in antlers to explain where and why I was placing the tines. When I stray from the caribou structure, I do so knowingly in order to achieve something that cannot be achieved within the caribou shape, like dancer's tutu. Know the rules before you break them. My goal is to make animal nerds (myself chief among them) happy when they see species-specific anatomy instead of cop outs.

I tried a few things before figuring out antlers could become comet

Another thing that often caribou have is an unsymmetrical "spork" that comes forward off only one antler. I figured this out by looking at hundreds of reindeer pictures and saving them to my reference folder. A few of my designs have this, that's what the little spiral is in the final comet antler design.

When I put comet in my lineup, I realized that the antlers I drew were way more stylized, chunky, and "tribal" than the others. I had already changed the proportions on one of my designs to match, so then I had to hack away at the basic comet rack to make it look natural.

I already knew that comet's colors would be easy because a basic reindeer already Has the big comet on the shoulder. But here's a peak at all the reindeer images I posted for my patrons to look at.

As you can see below, I chose reindeer markings for all my designs instead of other deer or animals. Even vixen is tied to actually possible reindeer patterns rather than copy-pasting a fox. Almost all of my designs have light-colored anklets on dark colored legs, which is very common with caribou of any color. This is the sort of thing no one tells you; you have to observe it yourself.

Ft cupid's early design! I was continually testing out my reindeer silhouettes and colors on new people, taking their feedback, and fixing what wasn't clicking.

I know I could have made vixen sexy and curvy to play into a recognizable trope, but I really wanted them to be scary and fox-like. Sometimes you gotta do what you want and not what you think will appeal to audiences. Reindeer Days is a purposeful exercise in audience resonance. Most of my art is 100% me and what I feel like doing with no regards to anyone else. So it was a fun challenge!

My patrons also got to see me making fun of corporate designs for recognizably/cliches at the expense of literally anything good

One of these is going to get a lot more "that must be vixen!" results from people who aren't constantly thinking about animal colors, markings, hunting strategies, and teeth.

And one rocks.

Vixen changed the least from the initial 2021 concept!

A Vixen is a female fox. In english slang, it means a cunning, fierce human woman, and sometimes sexually attractive or promiscuous. Quite often an insult to someone because she won't date you!

But to me, a vixen is an animal. A predator.

When designing to reference something, I like to hit it at multiple angles, referencing obscure trivia about something to delight and educate. This is done by researching a topic deeply, far below surface level and beyond what you think you need to make your design. Or in my case its just knowing a bunch of animal trivia already.

After researching/dredging your knowledge, sit there and Think. Don't draw anything. Come up with several ideas and then throw them all in at once for the ultimate trivia design.

Trivia about red foxes:

They have Long bushy tails

They have teeth that include large sharp canines, flat incisors, triangular premolars, and chunky molars with points on them that slide scissor-like with the molars above to cut meat via chewing

They hunt rodents in burrows under the snow by jumping into the air, arcing, and slamming down with their face through the snow

They are orange

They have a dark vertical stripe on their snout

They have black legs, with the backs and bottoms being orange

Translated into the design:

Pose based on a fox jumping, about to land in the snow

Antlers twisted to resemble teeth

Long (for a reindeer) bushy tail

black mark on snout

Some adjustment to the pose to be at the top of the arc and flow better.

Tinkering with the design to make it recognizable but not 100% copypasta fox

I was finally happy with a design that absolutely showed "fox" while still being creative and plausibly caribou shaped. This would absolutely communicate who it is! I thought!

The most obvious one of the bunch! After all, everyone knows what a vixen is!

[S] ==> The Note Desolation Plays

Very long thread ahead!

Alright! Time to comment on one of the most iconic Homestuck flashes. It has no command or name, so we'll use the name of the act:

The Note Desolation Plays First of, the flash itself.

The closeup on John never fail to get me, it's moving and impressive. The technique is simple and yet it's efficient. I think it's the first time we witness the Hero Mode. Followed by a change of scene (the empty streets). Then we zoom out, back to a more general shot, zooming out twice. Cue the visual narration.

The streets are empty. Wind skims the voids keeping neighbors apart, as if grazing the hollow of a cut reed, or say, a plundered mailbox.

Really interesting start. A simple direct description. 'The street are empty'. And then a more metaphorical one. Wind, void, neighbors. Cut reed. We went from a human/civilized/controlled concept to nature. Then back to a man-made object, the mailbox. There's an early preview of what's to come, the challenges and ideas that John will be confronted to. A breathe among the void, wandering, singing in a tube to travel and signal its presence. It's a pattern that will appear more and more in the future: the postal system on LOWAS, the pipes, and the organpipe at the end of his Land Quest. Heck, we were already introduced by DAD's pipes.

A familiar note is produced. It's the one Desolation plays to keep its instrument in tune.

The wind travels and sing. It's now music. I always was fascinated by the instruments before the beginning of a concert. It seems dissonant by actually it creates something melancholic, anticipation, yet hopeful. The beginning before the beginning. A hint, to whats to come. 'Get ready'.

But who's playing? It is us, it is John, it is.. someone else?

It is your thirteenth birthday, and as with all twelve preceding it, something feels missing from your life.

This 'something feels missing from your life' is kinda vague. It seems like a neutral statement, but actually it's worrisome. Early signs of depression? Or does he feel like he hasn't done much in his life yet? Boy you're 13, you've got a lot of time ahead!

The game presently eluding you is only the latest sleight of hand in the repertoire of an unseen riddler, one to engender a sense not of mirth, but of lack.

Oooooh a mysterious character, a hidden Sphinx-like entity. They're holding the game like a playing card, one yet to be putted on the table. I like this part of the paragraph very much. But who's holding the card(s)? The author? The CEO of the Skaianet, the one behind the development of Sburb, Jake Harley? Or perhaps alt!Calliope herself, she herself is quite enigmatic and speak in riddles. 'One to engender a sense not of mirth, but of lack.' I think this sentence is quite ignored by all. One more reason to dig as much as we can. Mirth is laughter, joy and life, the opposite of lack. Life vs Void. I also found funny to see a word having 'gender' in it. OOOOHHH a new meaning appeared! If you're team eggbert, then the lack, the discomfort that John is feeling could be interpreted as gender dysphoria. The mirth being gender euphoria. But if you're on team cis, then it's highly possible that it's depression. Though it works for both cases.

His coarse schemes are those less of a prankster than a common pickpocket.

'His'? Is that a pronoun chosen by default, or specifically picked? LE? Also, alt!Callie and Jake don't fit the prankster shtick.

Maybe John is projecting because he's an aspiring prankster. Hmm, so this mysterious figure is not funny but more criminal. Malicious, perhaps? Or just cruel?

Unseen figure with unspoken plans, keeping like an apathetic thief the long-awaited game, the start of all, the end of all. The main plot, the full(ness) that will fill the empty. Additionally, 'His' could be God himself. Jesus' pronouns in the Bible are He/Him capital H if I recall correctly.

His riddle is Absence itself.

Can this riddle linked to the Ultimate Riddle? Or perhaps it's one and same thing? There is interpretation of what the UR can be, including a long-ass post that I read several times, cause it's dense and complex. For those that don't want to read the whole thing, the answer of the riddle would be: Do as you wish. Absence. 'Waiting for something to happen', perhaps? John wishes that something happen to him, something that will motivate him and change his life. It's an early exhibit of John's mindset. Doing nothing and waiting for an external output to push him around. It's a passive and submissive behavior.

It is a mystery dispersing altogether, like the moon's faint reflection, with even one pebble of inquiry dropped in its black well.

The ripples creates movement, and once it's set in motion, he sure is going, for a little while. Here, the answer seems to be within reach, but when we look for it it gets blurry. A mix of a truth not ready to be discovered yet, and an unseen force preventing him to uncover it.

It is the most diabolical riddle of all.

Me, when I try to understand why I'm not feeling well and what's my body trying to communicate to me..

But yeah, the kids will scratch their head for a while with that one!

"Absence diminishes little passions and increases great ones, as wind extinguishes candles and fans a fire." -Walt Whitman

Speaking of scratching, this one is a doozy. Extremely straight forward, and yet I have a hard time trying to link it to John's life and adventure. What would John attribute as "little passions" and "great ones"? "as wind extinguishes candles and fans a fire" is easily readable in a literal way. But for now its deeper meaning (how it applies to John) eludes me.

Alright, if it's the limits of my intellect, then let's check the work of someone who actually understood it! It's way too long to translate and put in this already long post, so I'm going to summarize it. This sentence is about relationship. According to Rochefoucald, there's no small loves but rather mediocre ones. Absence has a different effect depending of the nature of the relationship. If the bond is weak, the distance can make it dissipate. On the other hand, a strong bond can be strengthened by it. Distance makes us think and identify if a relationship is important for us or not. Thank fuck for this analysis. Now I get it! Anything that is of little importance disappear to John's eyes, but the game and his friends? It gets stronger. The more time separate him from Sburb and his reunion with the others, the more his desire is intensified.

Yes, you are certain Walt Whitman said that. One hundred percent positive.

Aaaand we're back to 'Attribute this quote to its proper author'. Woohoo! (audience claps) This time iiiiiit's…François Duc de la Rochefoucauld (pronounced rushfooko). Oh hey french dude. I wouldn't guess!

There's also several translations for this section: -"Absence diminishes mediocre passions and increases great ones, as the wind extinguishes candles and fans fires." -“Absence diminishes small loves and increases great ones, as the wind blows out the candle and fans the bonfire.”

I guess the one with mediocre in it is the closest translation.

Small love is fine too, after all when an author mentions 'passions' they often mean love. Also 'feu' refers to a chimney fire, or fire in general. If it was a bonfire, the author would have specified with "feu de joie/de camp". Anyway, that was the translation intermission haha. Gonna love language and interpretations~

You have a feeling it's going to be a long day.

Did you mean 3 years?! hahaha But yeah, it's going to be a long and tedious 24 hours. Well well, let's sum up and reach to a conclusion: Something is missing from John's life. Someone seems to play games with him, not of mischievousness, but cruelty. John is waiting, longing for something but isn't willing to be the one to make a move, no he rather be pushed in the desired direction in a passive way. John wants to reach a certain truth about himself, but fail to grasp it every time. He wants to but isn't ready to learn it. There's also the Ultimate Riddle, which is linked to his personal riddle. Maybe it's one and the same thing. And finally, the Rouchefoucauld quote. A meditation on John's relationships (friends), the game, and himself. A bond between absence and wind is made. The wind is a melancholic melody, the full, that fills the absence (depression?), the empty. Will John be able to take back control on his life? How will he transition to the rest of the afternoon after such a deep and heavy moment? ==>

Nona the Ninth, Chapter 29

(First House icon) In which oh yeah, that WAS in the day's events preview, wasn't it?

Everyone makes to get into the big truck, and Nona thinks longingly of her home. Pyrrha sits Nona in the chair Cam no longer needs. The new person herds everyone, stopping and healing all the worn-down people. The Angel and Pash show up, with Noodle as well. Nona asks if they're coming with, and Pash says not to get her started. She goes where Aim goes, and Aim is going with the crew, to the Nine Houses. Aim says they are a liability, and the commander will get some breathing room once they're safe.

Nona said: “Who are you?” Then she explained, “Everyone asks me the same question, so—I feel like it’s my turn.” “You don’t get to ask,” said Pash roughly; which Nona thought was a wonderful and very cool answer she wished she had come up with herself. But the Angel leant down and looked at Nona. There was something settled in her face: a calmness that had not existed there before—a kind of immovable, fixed-concrete resolve. [...] She suddenly reached up and grasped the Angel’s hand, and the Angel grasped hers, and the Angel looked at her. “I’m the Messenger,” said the Angel simply. “We are the Message … the message has two parts left, and you are looking at one of those parts. The name for this part of the message was ‘Aim’ when the message was passed to us through my forebear Emma Sen.(1) The message is too simple for human beings like us to understand. What do you think the message is?”(2) Nona couldn’t guess. “I hope you hear it one day,” said Aim. She reached out—she ruffled Nona’s hair—she smiled. Then she said, “Noodle, let’s go,” and she stepped resolutely up the ramp and into the truck.

Pash makes a joke about having to shoot Nona now,(3) waits a beat, then says it really was only a joke, and goes up the ramp. Pyrrha picks Nona out of the chair and remarks that she's been very calm. Nona says there's not long left, and asks if they're going to find her. Pyrrha says yes, it might be time to wake her up.

Pyrrha brings her to a huge cockpit with massive wraparound windows. Kiriona is already there, strapped into a seat.

She did not speak to them, even when Pyrrha said, “Hey, kid.” She had not said much of anything since Camilla and Palamedes had become Camilla-and-Palamedes—seemed withdrawn and lost in thought, unwilling to look at anyone or anything.(4)

The new person enters, with We Suffer, and Crown supporting Judith. The new person takes the biggest seat at the front.

“Mind showing me how this thing starts?” they said to the commander. “Oh, dear God,”(5) said the commander. “For what I am about to do, I will go down as history’s greatest monster.”

Nevertheless, she leans down and gives instructions. Pyrrha asks to be allowed to drive instead.

“No chance,” said Palamedes-and-Camilla comfortably. And: “Commander … thank you. Leave everything to me.” “I do—I have,” said We Suffer. And— “Every single hope of Eden(6) now rests within this clapped-out vehicle.” “Same for the Nine Houses,” said Palamedes-and-Camilla. “You know what I want,” said We Suffer. She turned to address the rest of the driver’s cockpit. “To complete what she started. Troia, listen to me. Every so often there is invoked a Blood of Eden mission protocol—we call it Protocol One. It is used in times of either terrible joy or the worst possible outcomes. Protocol One means there are no more formal orders—if given in the field of battle, often it is understood as ‘Scatter. Retreat. Disunite,’ but it is not quite that. There is a different protocol that is simply used for retreat, protocol that means ‘Save yourselves.’ I received the order to save myself when I was young … and I saved myself, which is why you hear me now, starting this terrible truck, putting my life’s work in the hands of my enemies and of strangers I do not understand. But now I give you Protocol One … and Protocol One is ‘Live.’”(7)

Crown and Pyrrha salute WS, and the new person asks what mission protocol she'll give the local forces. WS replies, basically the standard, "Fight like hell and do not shoot any civilians." She starts wishing them luck in turn, Crown, Nona, even Pyrrha, but when she comes to the new person…

We Suffer paused. Camilla-and-Palamedes cocked their burnt head to one side. “Paul,” they suggested.(8) “Paul. Good luck, Paul,” said We Suffer. “Now … you have my coat, which you can keep, but my wallet is in the breast pocket, so hand it over.”

Paul obediently hands over the wallet, and WS leaves to give final orders to those not in the room. Pyrrha asks how long they'd been planning the conversion, and Paul says "They had a lot of rainy-day backup plans."

“Yeah, but—Paul?” “Just Paul,” said Paul. Crown suggested, “Paul … Hect?” “Just Paul,” said Paul. “U Lap,” said the corpse prince, from the back of the cabin.(9) “Thanks for your contribution,” said Paul. “Aulp,” said the corpse prince. “No,” said Paul.

There's a final burst of radio comm with WS, wishing luck and such, and then Paul starts up the truck. Nona feels so strange, insulated from the mechanical movement feelings by being in Pyrrha's lap, with her body feeling so numb. Pyrrha asks, what now, and Paul releases a lever allowing the truck to lurch forward. The cabin grows cold. An automated fan starts whirring to clear the condensation from everyone's breaths, and a heater melts it into water that pools, then starts to run up into the windshield.

Paul leant forward on the accelerator, and then—

(1) The Messenger. I think I already alluded to AOL Instant Messenger in a previous chapter. This just confirms it. Emma Sen, MSN messenger. I can't tell if I think this was just an incredibly elaborate setup for a joke, or if I think Muir is going to pull something out of this reference in Alecto. Both, really, I suppose. (2) What do you think the message is? Why are there two parts? Who, or what, is the other? The message is too simple, but they didn't say the message, they said codewords that imply a message. I can't wait to see if this comes back, honestly. (3) The classic "you know too much" beat from spy movies. Is it really a meme or reference, in the modern senses, or just… universal language of storytelling, at this point? (4) Wondering what it would be like to have fused with Harrow so thoroughly. Wondering if there's still a chance they could. Wondering if it's better not to know the insides of Harrow's thoughts so intimately after all. Thoughts wandering (intentionally confusing usage) onward down through all the questions she still has about and for Harrow. I see you, Kiriona. (5) Very likely, a very different God from the one most of the Nine Houses characters have invoked. Though, maybe the same one as John. (6) Every hope of Eden. What does We Suffer hope for Eden? There's so much symbology in the choice of the name of the organization, after all. We just saw in John's recounting the way that the ancestors of the modern non-House civilization cast themselves out of Eden, out of the origin world, out of the safety of the garden of home. How much has the Blood of Eden mission changed in ten thousand years? How far have they warped? What do they even want anymore, besides… no, not besides, what do they want after elimination of the Nine Houses empire? Do they even know? Do they have the faintest idea? (7) I can't find a good specific reference for this, it's so vague as to be unsearchable, but it's a beautiful backup mission statement to have at the ready.

(8) This one word, this one line, is quite honestly what made me want to do this whole project. It's been percolating in my brain for the entire 10 months since I first read the book. Honestly I don't even think I have space for my entire yell about it, so the shortest version is "go look up some articles about Paul the Apostle, and yell with me." The next shortest version is that Paul was born Saul (which calls back to the longish ah sound that Muir said in the GtN bonus materials tied Palamedes and Camilla's names together as a matched pair) and was an enemy of Jesus, before he had a revelation, and converted. As many as fourteen of the twenty-seven books of the New Testament are sometimes attributed to his writing, though only seven can be undoubtedly verified. Contrary to common belief, Paul wasn't exactly a name given on his conversion. It was fairly typical to have a Hebrew name and a Greco-Roman name at the time, and the names are used somewhat interchangeably in some contexts within gospel. Using "Paul" would put a lot of his converts more at ease than using "Saul" in the same era. At any rate, Paul was one of the biggest names in the early Church, big on conversion this guy. And I think the symbolism of all that, rolled up into this new unfaithful Lyctor who started faithful to John and now is faithful to their own ideal… it's just very interesting. Especially since Kiriona the actual son (daughter) of God has shown up just as the final stages of conversion were underway. (There may or may not be an even longer version of this essay but it's better done by someone with more professional biblical scholarship and possibly as a degree thesis.) I made this after falling in love with this template by @danesdehaan and the amazing rolling effect added to it by @eddiediaaz. This template is however based on the look of embed spotify playlist. This template is intended to be used as a base for a rolling playlist. Tutorial might come later on how I use it to do so, but for now, if you just want a static playlist of three songs: DELETE "GUIDE MASK SONG LIST FOR GIF" and the layers groups "Song 4" and "Song 5" inside the "Song" layers group.

I use GIMP 2.10 and some layers (or groups) are color coded:

Blue mark: change the color layer to another of your liking.

Orange mark: change the picture (here the playlist cover picture) by putting another picture in the layer group specified for this pic. (I created a group so you don't have to change the composite mode of your layer upon adding it to your image).

Red mark: change the text.

You have two options for the small icon in the upper right corner (icons from icons8) either a music note like in the preview or the Spotify logo. Choose either or none by toggling the visibility of the layers. Of course you're free to add your own logo as well, you do you.

So, I saw two movies yesterday.

These reviews are spoiler free.

The first was the DnD Movie, which I really liked. I went in a huge group with one of my college clubs. It’s shot really well, tons of fun, has a great soundtrack, and feels like a DnD campaign. My only complaints were that the exposition dumps were sometimes super long and obvious, and the final dilemma between Holga, Edgin, Kira, and Zia felt a little too rushed. There should have been a little bit of conversation between Edgin and Kira. Also, Regé-Jean Page should have been in the movie more. But, literally everyone in the movie happens to be ridiculously gorgeous on top of being great in their roles.

Now…

The Mario Movie. So, a couple of us stayed at the theater after the DnD movie, because we figured “we’re already here and none of us will ever come see this on our own.”

So, at this point it was almost 10 at night on a Thursday, we had 15 minutes before the film started, and the theater was completely out of snacks. So we all piled into a car, ran to a Walmart and loaded up on snacks (I finally understand the “Kids in the candy store” expression) to sneak into the theater. We were all giddy and giggly and running around like madmen. (Nothing unusual for a Walmart at that time of night, I’m sure).

So, we get back and smuggle our snacks in just before opening previews begin. We’re nerds and we don’t party or stay out, so the fact that we’re doing this is making us giddy beyond belief, and the five of us have the whole theater to ourselves, getting ourselves high on sugar and cracking jokes…

And that’s where the memories end. We spent the entire movie cracking jokes, screaming when Mario Kart references were made and being generally rowdy (once again the theater was empty other than us).

I legitimately don’t remember anything about the movie other than not being super impressed by the voice performances (the script for Peach in particular was not doing Anya Taylor-Joy any favors).

The one thing that is genuinely impressive is the animation. They really took the time to make it look like the games, there was clearly a lot of genuine effort and care put into it. There are so many references to the games that are there for the fans. Some of the lighting effects were genuinely amazing as well.

The rest of it…the plot… it was predictable and forgettable in every sense of the word.

Except for the nihilistic blue star. They were iconic.

Also, Jack Black is a National Treasure. Please go watch the full “Peaches” music video. It’s amazing.

'Ever since Russell T Davies announced his return to Doctor Who, there's been anticipation in the air. We've all been waiting, it has now become clear, for The Giggle.

We can't say too much about the third and final 60th anniversary special, which will see out David Tennant's Fourteenth Doctor and Catherine Tate's Donna Noble - not least because a chunk of it is still being kept under wraps until Saturday night. But, oh, we're in for a treat - a beautiful, colourful, chaotic, onslaught of a treat.

After the Doctor and Donna returned to Earth in the final scenes of Wild Blue Yonder, The Giggle picks up with the world in chaos. As Bernard Cribbins declared in his final scene as Wilfred Mott, "It's everybody. It's everything. They're all going mad."

Why? Well, the answer has to do with one man. Neil Patrick Harris makes his Doctor Who debut as The Toymaker, an iconic classic villain from the early years of the sci-fi, taking over from Michael Gough. Davies has previously said that Harris had "never heard" of Doctor Who before he was cast (an impressive feat in itself). It's an astonishing thought when you see him on screen, stealing the show with all the joy, wit, swagger and unnerving-ness of an actor who's done this a thousand times before.

Of course, there are some incredible returning stars, including Ruth Madeley as Shirley Anne Bingham and Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart - comebacks that pack a punch. "How do we fight the human race?" Kate asks the Doctor in a genuine moment of horror. It goes without saying that Tennant and Tate are spectacular as always - hilarious in one moment, tear-jerking in the next. We see new sides to Tennant's Fourteenth Doctor - yep, the man is still surprising us after all this time.

But all of this would be futile without the story they've been handed. The Giggle grabs you in minute one and doesn't let you go. Visually, it's beautiful. Audibly, it's beautiful (all hail Murray Gold). It feels like old-school RTD, like the returning showrunner is flexing muscles he hasn't used in a long while, harking back to older tales in obvious and less obvious ways. But it also feels fresh and bigger. And not a moment is wasted.

It's not really that Doctor Who has a new budget (although that doesn't hurt), or that it's beaming out to a bigger audience than ever (also doesn't hurt). The boundaries of the show when it comes to the storytelling have been pushed further and further and, from what Davies has said about the Christmas special and beyond, it sounds like that's certainly not stopping here.

There are more magical moments that have to stay unmentioned and still so much to see, including the next regeneration and a whole new Doctor to meet in the form of the glorious Ncuti Gatwa - undoubtedly, the most important part of the special. But if it's knocked out of the park like the rest of the episode is, this could be one for the ages.

It's not an easy skill to muster up a genuine sense of danger in Doctor Who - after all, the Doctor always wins, right? Right?! But with a writer like Davies, an actor like Tennant and a story like this, when we're standing on the precipice of a whole new age for Doctor Who, who knows what will happen?

On paper, he was nothing out of the ordinary – maybe six inches taller than her, with iconic golden curls like a film cliché. Simple jeans and a black long-sleeved t-shirt, but with the Gabriel brand logo letting you know that, as plain as they were, those clothes cost more than Marinette could afford after a whole month’s worth of babysitting. Two months, even.

What wasn’t ordinary was his smile, and the way it moved right into his moss-green eyes. Or the openness on his face, not just inviting but demanding that she know and understand him. Especially with the early-autumn sunshine hanging over the skyline, haloing his face and making the tips of his hair glow, like he was on fire and had been delivered into the world just for her.

That’s…too much poetry for this time of day.

Marinette licked her lips. She knew who this boy was, after all. They’d all been prepped about him for weeks – how they were supposed to treat him like just another student, ignoring how famous he was. He’d recently moved from London and wanted to keep as low a profile as possible.

She’d told herself this would be easy. Never mind that she had a collection of clippings of this boy’s modelling shots from magazines, or that his father was her favourite fashion designer in the world. He was just a normal person underneath the make-up and expensive hair…right?

But standing there, face to face, she saw that she was wrong. And it had nothing to do with him being famous.

‘You’re…you’re…,’ she made out, wondering when she had lost the ability to form sentences.

He rolled his eyes, releasing her wrists and taking a step away from her to give her space. ‘Adrien Agreste.’ He said this like it was a brand rather than a personal name. ‘But seeing as it’s my first day here, maybe we could…pretend I’m someone else?’

She wanted to smack herself but couldn’t move. I’ve already messed this up.

‘Like…like who?’ she stammered.

He ran a hand through his shining hair and looked up, squinting in the sunlight before meeting her eyes again. ‘You know, I’ve been trying to work that one out for a while. Maybe you should make something up for me.’

She adjusted the shoulder strap of her bag before it could slide off her arm. ‘You…you want me to make up an identity for you?’

Adrien laughed. ‘Is that too weird? I mean, you don’t even know me yet.’

Somehow, she recovered herself. ‘Sure, I know you. You’re Adrien Agreste, the mad scientist who trains hamsters to howl at full moons. There was a whole article about it in the paper the other week.’

He laughed again, this time louder than before, and shook his head. ‘I bet you thought that was a pretty crazy thing to do. I lost a lot of funding for that stunt. No one will invite me to the scientist parties anymore.’

‘The scientist parties,’ she echoed, a strange feeling coming over her face. It had been so long since she’d smiled like this that she didn’t immediately recognise it.

‘We use technical language in the science circle.’ Adrien grinned at her, his eyes sparkling wickedly. ‘And who are you…’

‘Marinette Dupain-Cheng. I’m a baker. I knead emotions into pastries.’

‘Emotions?’

‘You know, sadness and anger….’ She trailed off, belatedly saying, ‘Um…joy.’

Ugh, Marinette, what are you saying?

Adrien nodded and rubbed his chin as if taking this matter deeply seriously. ‘What does a sadness croissant taste like?’

Her eyes grew large. ‘That’s what I was wondering!’

‘I bet it’s salty.’

‘Like tears!’ she exclaimed, then gripped her lunch bag hard, to stop herself from hugging this total stranger.

They both fell silent. She wanted to look away but couldn’t. Something about his stare was like a fist, holding her heart and in no hurry to let her go. She was caught in his gaze as long as he wanted.

So I went into today’s episode with conflicting expectations of who would come out on top in the match: Iris or Cynthia.

On one hand, Cynthia is hands-down one of the most prolific pokemon trainer icons in not just the anime, but the franchise at large. She and her Garchomp are legendary both in and out of universe. On top of this, its implied she’s held this position for a good while now, so she’s presumably a veteran of competitions such as this one and many others. Had these been the only considerations, I would’ve put money on Cynthia to win this match.

But then we had her opponent, Iris, who has the idealized trope of the new and rising star at her back, not to mention a new champion title. She’s proven herself quite capable in her recent return appearance in the anime, and on top of that, from a meta-story perspective, she has an affiliation with the main character, Ash, thus granting her some extra potential as the underdog.

All of this added together left me genuinely wondering if we’d see Cynthia maintaining her well-earned reputation, or if we’d see an upset.

As for the battle, I actually love the sheer contrast of Iris’ energetic commentary and celebratory fits of joy whenever she downed one of Cynthia’s pokemon versus Cynthia’s own seemingly stoic and severe reprisals. The way the two of them conduct their battles is night and day, and it was quite enjoyable to watch in my opinion. Especially when it comes to Cynthia, we rarely get to see her enter her true “serious-mode” (on top of not getting to see her that much period, given her elite status in the world), and that in itself is a rare treat that I was happy to devour. Case and point: her just staring straight ahead before solemnly closing her eyes as her Milotic was tossed like a slinky behind her.

Let it not be said that Cynthia is without her flair. We saw a teaser of it from last week’s preview, but we got to see the real majesty of it in today’s battle when she pulled off her mid-battle lipstick dab, then revealed said cosmetic implement to be her goddamn keystone holder. Damn, what style...

In the end, it was Cynthia who prevailed, validating what was perhaps my initial gut feeling on who was going to win, but given the sentiments in the aftermath of the battle, I don’t think that Cynthia had an easy time pulling off that win, despite how smooth she and her pokemon made it look for the most part.

Damn if I didn’t get a little emotional myself with Iris’ and Ash’s little interaction after she left the battlefield. The tears and the way she admitted that she needed to do that after the fact show how much she’s grown and how much she’s matured as a person and a trainer. And we also got that telltale shot of Ash (note the avoidance of his eyes in the shot) quietly leaving the stands to make his way down to the arena and meet Iris.

I’m sure negaishippers will be putting that scene on a shrine for ages to come...

Overall, this was a great episode with great contenders. For me, aside from that poignant, though short, scene at the end with Iris and Ash, I think just the notion of getting to fully see Cynthia in a real battle where the expectation wasn’t just for her to trounce someone was my favourite aspect of this episode.

How to Make a Bookmark With Cricut: A Stepwise Guide

Hey, Cricut enthusiasts! Are you in search of a tutorial on how to make a bookmark with Cricut? Be patient, as I have covered everything in this write-up. I always need a bookmark to keep track of my reading progress in books. Without it, I can’t continue reading books. Since I forget things a lot and can’t remember which page I read last time, it becomes essential for me to keep a separate bookmark for each book😅.

But don’t you think it costs so much to buy a new and small bookmark from the store🤑? Damn, its price is really high! I couldn’t afford that much, so I thought I’d create one myself. Yes, being a crafter, if we can’t make a bookmark using Cricut, then what’s the point of crafting? If you want to create a glitter bookmark with me, hop on a board with me!

Step 1: Start a New Project on the Cricut App

Before we delve into how to make a bookmark with Cricut, you need to ensure that Cricut Design Space is installed on your compatible computer device. After that, follow the steps in the section below:

You have to open up your Design Space app and start a New Project.

Go to the left toolbar menu and select Images.

Then, open the Art Type menu and choose Draw Only.

Afterward, you will need to type “Enjoy the Little Things” on the search bar and press Enter on the keyboard.

After that, you have to select the design that you are looking for and click on the Insert option.

Step 2: Edit the Bookmark Image

Step 3: Adjust the Shape and Size

Now, we need to adjust the width of a rectangular bookmark as per the required size. For this, go to the Shapes menu, and you will need to insert a square. Hit the Padlock icon so that you can adjust the width and height of the shape.

Step 4: Arrange Your Shape

Once you are satisfied with the placement, you should drag the selection box over both shapes and select Weld to join both shapes together. Then, you need to weld the design to join both shapes together. Furthermore, you have to add color to the shapes.

You have to go to the Shapes and then click the Score Line. After that, you have to change the line type to Foil and select the same line.

Step 5: Start Cutting Your Material

On the next screen, you will move to the Mat Preview screen. Then, hit the Continue button and proceed.

Place the faux leather on your cutting mat and then use a brayer to adhere it to the mat properly. Install the foiling tip into the housing. Move the white stars on the right side. Perform the instructions to cut the design. Before you unload the mat, you need to remove the foiling sheet.

After that, install the Fine-Point blade and cute bookmark shapes. Finally, you have learned how to make a bookmark with Cricut. Follow the instructions carefully to create your own.

Answer: Basic supplies are required for making bookmarks with Cricut. Besides, you must install your Design Space on a computer or mobile device. Here are the supplies needed for your bookmark:
