Nothing like poetry when you lie awake at night. It keeps the old brain limber. It washes away the mud and sand that keeps on blocking up the bends. Like waves to make the pebbles dance on my old floors. And turn them into rubies and jacinths; or at any rate, good imitations.

The problems besetting a more complex approach are illustrated by Thorold Dickinson's Men of Two Worlds (1946), from a story by Joyce Cary. A coloured concert pianist, sent back to his tribe on a friendship mission, finds himself succumbing to the spells of a malevolent witch doctor. Any overtone of spiritual paternalism is overridden by our identification with the pianist, and Dickinson's hallucinogenic direction bulldozes us into admitting the irrational unconscious in ourselves also. Brothers under the skin, we're edged even deeper into that grey matter where libidinal nightmares skulk in wait for all.

There has never been a better set of reaction shots on film than what Ralph Bellamy, Cary Grant, and especially Irene Dunne are doing in this scene.

I want you, just you
Pairing: Joyce Byers×OC, Robin Buckley×sister
Word count: 2601
Warnings: some smut at the end
Summary: You are Robin's older sister and friends with Steve, Jonathan and Nancy. You always hang out at Jonathans and often help Joyce cook dinner for all of you. You developed a massive crush on her and one day you ask her out on a date. Joyce knows that your gay because you helped Will with coming out to her.
A/n: So I haven't posted anything in a while and I had this fanfic in my drafts for quite a while but never got myself to finishing it. But I have a few new ideas and wanted to finish it before I start something new. So here it is. Hope you like it!♡
Tumblr media
"My god, just ask her out already. The worst that can happen is that she says no."
"It's not that easy Robin! What are Jonathan and Will gonna think?"
"They both love you endlessly, they won't care. They just want their mom to be happy. Asking her out won't kill you." Claire turned around and raised an eyebrow at that statement.
"Then why don't you tell Nancy how you feel about her?"
"That's totally different, she's in a relationship. You know that. Joyce is single and I don't want to listen to your sad, self pitying anymore. So. Ask. Her. Out. End of discussion." Robin grabbed her bag and left the shop.
Claire Buckley worked in a little flowershop a few houses next to the shop Joyce Byers worked in. Her shift usually ended an hour before Joyces, so she always waited for her after closing the shop and then drove her home. They knew each other through Jonathan. Claire was friends with him, Steve and Nancy. They often hung out at the Byers house and when Will also had his friends over, there were a lot of mouths to feed. So Claire often helped Joyce with cooking and making dinner ready. She loved it, just the two of them talking and laughing. Joyce knew that Claire was gay, Will accidentally told her, when he was talking about the way that Claire helped him with coming out.
Today wasn't a busy day so she closed the shop early. Before leaving she made a little bouquet out of beautiful pink-yellowish roses for Joyce.
Claire knew Robin was right, asking her out wasn't such a big deal and normally she was pretty confident in everything she did but Joyce made her legs wobbly and her heart beat so fast it felt like having a heartattack.
After closing the shop Claire walked up and down the sidewalk like an idiot in front of the shop and thought about what to say. She really didn't want to fuck this up, besides the whole crushing situation Claire really liked Joyce. She had been so accepting, when Claire came out and had always been there for her. Robin was a fabulous sister but she had her own baggage to cary with struggling and coming out. It was nice to have someone just listen to you and tell you it would all be alright. And cooking with Joyce always made her day and she enjoyed the calming effect that she had on her. After about 5 minutes of walking a hole into the sidewalk Claire entered the shop.
"Hey Joyce, it's me. I closed the shop a little earlier." Claire walked over to a free counter and sat down.
"Ah, there you are. Not much business today here either." Joyce sat down next to her and smiled at her. That bright, loving smile gave Claire some confidence.
"I brought you some flowers."
"Thank you Claire, they're beautiful. They'll get a special place at home." She smiled at the flowers and seemed to be caught up in her thoughts. It was so easy to fall in love with her, Claire thought. Or maybe that was just her opinion.
"I... I wanted to ask you something."
"Sure, what is it?" Joyce looked up to her and gave her a reassuring smile.
"Would you go on a date with me? We could go to a restaurant, or I'd cook for you." Her smile faded a bit and Claire directly hated herself for ever having asked. She stood up and walked away from the counter, the flowers still in her hand.
"Aren't I a bit too old for you?" She chuckled sarcastically. Joyce felt a wave of insecurity rush over her, she didn't think that Claire would make such a cruel joke but she doubted that she really wanted something from her. Why would she? Claires smile dropped immediately.
"I..." she had never thought about the age difference before, her concernes always lied somewhere else. The kids, her maybe not liking woman, the town gossip...
"I never thought about our age difference to be honest. It never mattered to me." Claire stood up and walked towards her, she still had her back to her but the flowers weren't in her hands anymore.
Claire slowly put a hand on Joyce's shoulder and another one on her waist. She closed her eyes and she could feel her sink into the touch and visibly relax. Joyce felt safe when Claire touched her, it wasn't something she understood but it was something she always denied herself because she never thought the feeling could be reciprocated.
Moving close to her ear with her mouth Claire whispered: "It doesn't matter, you hear me. It doesn’t change the way I feel about you and I wouldn't ask you out on a date if I didn't mean it. Believe me. So, what's your answer?" Joyce really wanted to believe her, she wanted to so bad. So she did. She risked being hurt. She was tired of denying herself basic needs.
She opened her eyes again and moved her head slightly into Claires direction. Their faces were inches away from each other.
"Okay, cook for me." Claire started smiling without even trying to and turned Joyce around. She moved her head up to look into Claire's eyes and shyly smiled at her.
"Close the shop, noone will come. And if they do, they can wait until tomorrow. I'll drive you home." She nodded and started closing.
--------------
Claire stopped the car infront of the house and as Joyce wanted to leave the car, Claire grabbed her arm. The older woman turned to look at her.
"Tomorrow, 7 o'clock?" Joyce nodded and with a smile she left the car. Claire waited until she was in the house and the door was closed. With a bright smile on her face she left, excited to tell Robin about the latest events.
"You'll never believe what just happened. I need you out of the house tomorrow." Robin hadn't even closed the door yet but Claire already threw the words at her.
"Ok, chill. I really have to pee. After that you can tell me." Claire rolled her eyes but accepted and walked back to sit down on the sofa.
Her thoughts directly wandered to Joyce, just thinking about her made her feel like a teenager again. It felt like there were thousands of butterflys in her stomach. She had never felt like this before.
"Claire? Hello, earth to Claire?!" Robin was wildly waving her hands in front of Claires face to get her attention. "So what did you want to tell me, huh?" Claire immediately started to smile like an absolute idiot.
"I did it. I asked Joyce out. And...she said yes! Can you believe it. We have a date tomorrow at 7 o'clock. I'll cook for her. That why I'll need you out of here at least until the next morning. You never now what will happen." Claire winked at her sister and smiled sheepishly.
"Well thas amazing Claire. I told you it won't be bad to ask her. Honestly if I wouldn't have forced you, you would still cry about her. So you can basically thank me."
"Oh, shut up. I would have done it sooner or later."
They both laughed. Happy to have each other and to have someone who understands them.
----------------------
"Oh. Hi, Joyce. Please come in, Claire is in the kitchen. Claire! Joyce is here. I'll leave now. Bye" with that Robin closed the door behind her and Joyce was left alone in the hallway. She didn't really know what to do so she took her jacket of and went to look for Claire. Right in that moment Claire opened a door at the other end of the hallway.
"Hello Joyce. I thought my sister would have enough manners to actually show you where the kitchen is and not just leave. Come in." Joyce stepped forward unsure how to greet Claire she just looked up at her and laughed nervously.
"Do I hug you now?" Claire let out a laugh at that.
"If you want to, then yes." So Joyce stood up on her tiptoes and hugged Claire. At that Claire felt a shiver go through her whole body. She buried her head deep in Joyce's hair and felt completely at ease for the first time in a long time.
Claire let go before it got awkward and showed Joyce the living room.
"You can sit down. I'll just grab the food real quick."
"I could help."
"No." Claire protested, "You're my guest and I'll treat you as such." With that she left the room just to come back with two bowls of food a second later.
"Mhh, that smells amazing Claire." She smiled at Joyce and they started to eat.
They talked about everything that came to mind. It felt absolutely natural and they both felt comfortable around each other. This date wasn't their last one. They met multiple times after that. Never doing much more than having dinner, talking or going to the movies. But that was fine with them. They wanted to take it slow.
----------------------
It was a cold Friday evening, Claire had cooked for Joyce again and they both sat on the couch together laughing about a story Claire had just told about her sister. Joyce laughed so sincerely that Claire just stopped and looked at her in awe. She was so damn beautiful. Without really noticing Claire got closer to Joyce. When she opened her eyes again, Claire was so close to her that she stopped laughing abruptly out of shock.
"I..., Claire what are you doing?"
"If you won't protest I would like to kiss you." Joyce eyes grew wide in shock. She guessed it was logical that all the dates would lead to this but still she wasn't sure how to feel about this. She knew that she wanted it but still she still couldn't believe that Claire was sincere in her intention.
Joyce backed away a little.
"I.., Claire if all of this. All the dates, the cooking was just to get into my pants, I can assure you there is nothing grande under those clothes. So you should search for someone your age for that." Claire felt a wave of sadness wash over her. Did Joyce actually believe that? Didn't she make clear that she liked her?
"Joyce, please listen to me." She took Joyce's hands in hers and looked at her with all the sincerity and love she had in her.
"All of the things that I did for you, all the dates we had, all the hours we sat here talking, laughing about stupid things. All of this, I did because I really like you. Because I enjoy your company. And if I wanted to kiss you or sleep with you, that's just because I think your stunning, I feel butterflys everytime I look at you and I want you. Not anyone else, just you. But if you don't want all of that. That's ok, we don't have to do this."
"But why me? I'm not special, neither me as a person nor the way I look. I'm just Joyce."
"And that's exactly what I want. You, Joyce. With all your flaws, all you fears, insecurities and problems. You are beautiful, please you have to belive me. I've had this crush on you since I've known you and it took all the courage in me to ask you out, because I thought you would never want to date me. So know that you allowed me to be such an intimate part of your life and let me get to know you even more, I want to protect you with all I have and make you understand how wonderful you are. I've realised that what I feel for you is so much more than a crush." Joyce let out a shy laugh at that and stroked a strand of hair out of Claires face.
"I don't think anyone has ever said something so beautiful to me." Claire grabbed Joyce's face and before she could overthink it, she kissed her.
It was by all means not a perfect kiss, but it was full if love and desire. It felt like all the butterflys in Claires stomach wanted to break out. And the feeling made it perfect, better than any other kiss could ever be.
Claire's hand slowly wandered down to start unbuttoning Joyce shirt. She stopped for a second to wait for consent. When Joyce slightly nodded, she took the shirt of and threw it to the floor. She pushed Joyce's hair aside and started to kiss her neck and then her shoulder. She slowly pushed Joyce down until she was laying in front of her and continued kissing her, while slowly wandering down to her breasts.
"Take it off, take your shirt of." Claire stopped to follow Joy's request. To Joyce surprise Claire wasn't wearing a bra, so she was practically naked in front of her.
"Claire, I think you should know, that I have never slept with a woman before." Joyce looked at Claire with an apologising smile. Claire moved up and kissed Joyce passionately.
"I don't care." She grabbed her waist and pulled her closer to her. She wanted to feel all of Joyce skin on hers. While kissing her, her hand slowly opened Joyce pants and started to move them down a bit. She could feel Joyce lift up her hips against her. It drove her crazy how much she wanted that woman. She never thought something like this would be possible.
As the pants landed on the floor, Claire started kissing her way down Joyce's body and grabbed behind her to open the bra that was still covering Joyce's breasts. When she moved up a little to look at Joyce, she covered her body. So Claire shoved her hands away. "Don't. You look amazing. I want to see you." She started slightly kissing her breasts and took one nipple in her mouth while pinching the other one. Joyce tried to suppress a moan but failed as Claire sucked harder. "Please, I want to hear you. Let it out." At that Joyce moaned again, this time not trying to suppress anything. At that sound Claire's vagina pulsated and her whole body got goosebumps. She started wandering further down and took of the panties, that were the only item of clothing Joyce was still wearing. Joyce clenched to the cushions closest to her while Claire started kissing and licking her already wet cunt. With one hand Joyce shoved Claire deeper into her and held onto her hair. "Oh god, Claire...please" Claire stopped much to Joyce disappointment and looked up. "Please what? Use your words.", "Please I need more, please fuck me", Claire chuckled, amused by Joyce's neediness. "Your wish is my command." With that she resumed her actions but also slowly put two fingers inside her. Joyce's was already throbbing from lust. The moaning got louder and fastly turned into a kind of lustful and erotic screaming. Something Claire had never heard before but it turned her on quite alot. "Claire, please. I'm gonna come.. I...Oh god, that feels amazing." With a last loud scream Joyce came with Claires name on her lips.
Claire slowly moved up to Joyce and kissed her.
"Thank you, I never knew sex could feel like this." Claire smiled at her and stood up  she reached out for Joyce and took her to the bedroom, where they fell asleep curled up together.

Biden goes on offense.
March 11, 2024
ROBERT B. HUBBELL
If the campaigning over the weekend is a portent of things to come, Democrats should be feeling good. As Joe Biden continued the momentum gained from a commanding State of the Union address, Trump partied with the anti-democratic strongman of Hungary, Viktor Orbán. Biden and Trump gave dueling speeches in Georgia: Joe Biden delivered a fiery but traditional campaign speech. Trump rambled in a stream-of-consciousness manner that would have made James Joyce scratch his head in puzzlement.
The difference in tone and comprehensibility of their respective campaign speeches in Georgia was palpable. In this clip, President Biden thanks his Black supporters for their key role in his 2020 victory and asks for their support in 2024. He also praises the bravery of the civil rights marchers—including the late John Lewis—who were beaten on the Edmund Pettus Bridge fifty-nine years ago on Bloody Sunday.
President Biden said:
Thursday marked fifty-nine years since hundreds of foot soldiers for justice marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge named after the Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan to claim the fundamental right to vote. They were beaten, they were bloody, they were left for dead—but they were unbowed. Our late friend, son of Georgia, John Lewis, was there. Five months later, what happened? We passed the Voting Rights Act [and it was] signed into law. But in the nearly six decades after that, the same forces are back, led by Donald Trump, taking us back in time, suppressing the vote, subvert[ing] elections. That’s why we have to stand up again. We know what to do. And my message to Georgia voters—and the voters all across the country—is to send me a Congress that will pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
The new toughness in Biden’s speech is welcome. He is making a direct connection between the brutal voter suppression of the Jim Crow era and the reactionary tactics of MAGA extremists. And he is calling out Trump's submissive courting of foreign dictators. See The Guardian, Biden hits out at Trump in Georgia rally: ‘He’s been sucking up to dictators all over the world’.
Trump, on the other hand, attacked supporters of Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley—because nothing invites party unity like rubbing salt in the wound! He spewed venom and ugliness about immigrants, the media, judges, rigged elections, and Joe Biden’s State of the Union address—but heaped copious praise on the enemy of democracy in Hungary, Viktor Orbán.
Trump flitted from grievance to grievance, speaking in an opaque code that was comprehensible to few members of the audience. In the snippet below, Trump complains that people are saying Joe Biden appears to be more fit than Trump:
Somebody said he [Biden] looks great in a bathing suit, right? And you know, when he was in the sand, having a hard time lifting his foot through the sand, because, you know, sand is heavy, three solid ounces per foot, but sand is a little heavy, and he is sitting in a bathing suit. At 81, do you remember Cary Grant? How good was he, right? I don't know what happened to movie stars today. We used to have Cary Grant, Glark Gable, and today – I will not say names because we don't need enemies. I get enough enemies. Cary Grant was like Michael Jackson once told me, the most handsome man in the world, Cary Grant, and we don't have that anymore. The Cary Grant at 81 or 82, going on 100, this guy, he is 81 going on 100, Cary Grant would not look too good in a bathing suit either, and he was pretty good-looking, right?
Huh??
Of course, Trump's most reprehensible conduct was imitating President Biden’s stutter. In this post, you can see Trump mocking Biden’s stutter and a moving video of Joe Biden comforting and inspiring a young boy with a stutter. Watch the video of Joe Biden until the end. It will remind you (again) why he is admired and liked by all who have worked with him.
One man is a monster and a criminal, and the other is a decent, kind person who can empathize with the challenges faced by others.
This pattern will continue for the next eight months. Trump's hate-filled, rambling rallies will continue to alienate persuadable voters, while Joe Biden’s humanity will shine through. Of course, there is no guarantee of success in anything in life. But as between the two candidates, we should be encouraged and proud to have Joe Biden as our standard bearer.

taylor time: 1989 edition !!!!!
welcome to new york: the older teens. this song really is just having fun with your friends in your twenties, to me, at least. i can only really imagine it as like, the older teens or the kids when they’re older just having fun ❤️ also, “you can want who you want, boys and boys and girls and girls” and them heading to a new place to just be free and themselves
blank space: steve. long list of ex lovers. i know you heard about me. it’s gonna be forever or it’s gonna do down in flames. you’re the king, baby i’m your queen. i get drunk on jealously.
style: stancy. let’s be honest. the whole chorus fits them so perfectly. james dean daydream look in your eye? long hair, slicked back? that’s steve. good girl? tight little skirt? red-lip, classic? that’s nancy. you come and pick me up, no headlights? nancy totally snuck out to go see steve. i should just tell you to leave, cause i know exactly where this leads? the studying scene.
out of the woods: jancy. there’s always something going on between them. if they’re not fighting the upside down, they’re fighting each other. “last december. we were built to fall apart and fall back together” “the monsters turned out to be just trees”
all you had to do was stay: mileven, post season 4. “people like you always want back the love they gave away, and people like me wanna believe you say you’ve changed” mike kinda, pushed off el’s love and comes back, saying he’s changed and that he does love her. “had me in the palm of your hand. why did you have to go and lock me out when i let you in?” “i’ve been picking up the pieces of a mess you made” “you were all i wanted, but not like this”
shake it off: steve, honestly. “got nothing in my brain, that’s what people say” “go on too many dates” bros just having a little dance party with robin
i wish you would: lumax. “i’ll never forget you as long as i live” “i miss you too much to be mad anymore” “you always knew how to push my buttons” just lucas wishing he could make everything better after vecna
bad blood: will/el and mike in season four. they’re both hurt by him. “it was my season for battle wounds, battle scars, body bumped, bruised” “if you love like that, blood runs cold”
wildest dreams: stancy, from nancy’s pov. talking about just starting to get with steve. i can also see this as nancy talking to him before sacrificing herself or something, asking him to remember her for the good at the beginning
how you get the girl: stancy again. steve coming back to do a big apology like he did in season two, knocking on her window with flowers and saying he missed her and he’s sorry and he’ll do better
this love: jopper ! joyce talking about losing hopper but having him come back to her in season 4 (or, not be dead, really). hopper talking about letting her go in high school and her coming back. “flickered in the night for only you” “you showed up just in time” “this love is alive, back from the dead” “when you’re young, you just run, but you come back to what you need”
i know places: steddie. the whole theme fits all the older kids, fighting monsters together, but i think it matches really well for not only a queer couple hunting monsters, but also having the added issue of the witch-hunt on eddie. “let them say what they want, we won’t hear it” “something happens when everybody finds out. see the vultures circling dark clouds”
clean: nancy, talking about her trauma. it was months and months of back and forth. you’re still all over me like a wine stained dress i can’t wear anymore” being clean not from steve, but looking back at the last several years of her life after defeating vecna and finally feeling clean from the upside down and the guilt she felt about barb. “let the flood cary away all my pictures of you” “butterflies turned to dust, they covered my whole room” and finding her room in the upside down
wonderland: elmax. finding a place they can be innocent and kids when everything is scary and knowing it won’t last forever. “haven’t you heard what becomes of curious minds?” “i should have slept with one eye open at night” both el wanting to protect max from vecna and max wanting to protect el from billy. “life was never worse but never better” both having their own struggles and being in bad spots but getting to be together
you are in love: steddie. specifically bonding after season 4. “the light reflects the chain on your neck” “your shoulders brush. no proof, one touch, but you felt enough” “you keep his shirt, he keeps his word” steve with eddie’s battle vest and eddie keeping his word of not running. i can also see this as joyce talking to steve about their guys. like, “he keeps a picture of you in his office downtown” being hop with a pic of his family in his office
new romantics: the older teens. just imagine it; they’re all on a trip to indie after graduation, just running around and having fun. sneaking into a club and finally just getting to be teenagers
“slut!”: nancy. be that with jonathan or robin or even steve. this is the most nancy coded song i’ve heard in a longggg time. “moonlit swimming pool” (sorry) “adorned with smoke on my clothes” steve smoking at the pool party in season one with her “i’ll pay the price, you won’t” nancy always getting hated on but jonathan and steve getting praised “if they call me a slut, you know it might be worth it for once” nancy “the slut” wheeler trying to find love again “if i’m gonna be drunk, i might as well be drunk in love” the halloween party fight in season 2. “everyone wants him, that was my crime. wrong place at the right time. i break down and he’s pulling me in. in a world of boys, he’s a gentleman” going from “king steve” to fighting monsters all because she was in the wrong place just as barb was taken. jonathan helping her out when she was upset and getting her to bed after the fight
say don’t go: mike and el, from el’s perspective in season 4. “i said i love you, you say nothing back” “why’d you whisper in the dark just to leave me in the night” from whispering in mikes basement to mike not being emotionally available, especially after what happened with hopper.
now that we don’t talk: stancy, from both sides. first verse is steve to nancy, second and third are from nancy to steve. last verse is both of them, with steve no longer caring about seeming cool in season 3 (ie being more “dorky” with dustin and stuff) and nancy “returning to her dignity was to turn into a shrouded mystery” becoming more reclusive and closed off to friendships in season 3 and 4 after barb, which she blames herself and steve for
suburban legends: steddie. former lovers steddie, to be specific, from eddie’s perspective. such a good angst story, with the references of loving someone who was “flush with the currency of cool” and talking about high school reunions and breaking your own heart. v steddie coded
is it over now?: stancy again. they’re very harry and taylor coded, what can i say? from nancy’s pov, talking about season 4 when they’re maybe flirting with each other again, just wanting it to be over. “lying traitor” and “bullshit” parallel. “only rumors about my hips and thighs and my whispered sighs” and the movie theatre incident. steve being known as a lady’s man, even brining new dates to watch games at hawkins high

Dumbest thought of the day:
Prima ballerina Adam
Douche bag manager Hoffman (mans is secretly a dancer but life happened and now he's a bitter man who dances I secret)
Ballerina bff Amanda
(Only open if you wanna see my incoherent sleep deprived ramblings. I haven't slept in 2 days because insomnia and my anxiety has decided to 🎶 kick it up a notch 🎶 I currently have no filter)
Obsessed audience member that wants Adam...idk probably William or Logan...fuck it it's Ivan
Logan works in props
William (this is emmerson schenk whatever btw) works with the lights
Theater owners John and Jill (they hate hoffman and love Adam)
Buff head stangehand Strahm
Zeke is a principal dancer as well and they whore him out to film and other theater productions (they can spare him but not Adam because Adam puts asses in the seats)
Remember Addy? The middle aged lady that works for William Easton? Yeah she was prima ballerina back in her day but an injury to her out of the game. Now she's the dance teacher/instructor who adores Amanda and Daniel.
Speaking of William Easton he's the number one patron he's at every show and everyone calls him Uncle MoneyBags because he dressed like Mr. Monopoly for Halloween ones fifteen years ago (Adam started it)
Brent Abbott you ask? He's just starting out in the big leagues. Adam has taken him under his wing
Corbett Denlon? Star of her class. Been dancing sine she was 3. She's at every performance she can get her parents to go to. The practice room she uses to rehearse is named after her late brother (who was also a student everyone adored)
And who is this up in the rafters changing the backdrops for scenes? Why it's Bobby Dagen the stage hand who is down bad for children's dance instructor and another principal dancer that gets lent out to other productions Joyce Young (in this universe Amanda and Joyce are cousins just go with it)
Where's our favorite Doctor Lawrence Gordon? (I know our actual favorite doctor is Lynn Denlon but for the sake of this post it's Larry (imagine cary elwes saying Larry from that one scene of men in tights)) well I'll tell you. He is the new front of house manager and he hates Hoffman and he went backstage to confront him but got distracted when he saw Adam dancing. Completely transfixed. He was smitten but has never talked to him in the 3 months he's Been there.
Zep is John's nephew. He's clumsy and spills his mop water on the daily. He's also the janitor/ maintenence man for the theater. He's been electrocuted many times. He's fine. His hair is permanently sticking up tho.
Remember Britt and Addison? Yeah they're the mean girls who constantly undermine everyone they dont like (mainly Amanda. They try to get into Adam's pants) (honestly they could hit me with a car and I'd say thank you)
Perez is Strahms BFF and costume designer
Cecil Adams? Of course he's here. He's the pervy stage hand nobody likes (think Joseph Buquet in Phantom of the Opera meets Ted Spankofski from Starkid's Hatchetfield series)
Art Blanc of course he's the theaters legal aid
Rigg is Amanda's dance partner. They're also like together but not
Kerry is there. She's Gordon's second in command.
Daniel Matthews was forced into dance classes by his mom when he got in trouble in school at 13. He's a natural. He still isn't the best but he takes extra lessons with Addy, Adam, Rigg, Amanda, and Joyce (everyone does one of one with him) and Brett helps him outside of the theater. (They're bffs)
Eric Matthews is head of security who is constantly watching Daniel. He's proud
Dan Erickson is here too. He's the accountant.
Jeff joined Eric's security after his son died so he could spend more time with Corbett
Lynn serves as the unofficial theater nurse. She's patched up many floor burns (trust me it fucking hurts when you fall on a stage/dance studio floor even with something to cover your skin think rug burn but from a wooden floor) and sprain ankles and a few broken toes, one time Daniel was a little over zealous and rammed himself into the mirror and broke his nose. She loves being the only unofficial nurse on the unofficial payroll (they're donations for new pediatrics wing of the hospital. John and Jill are grateful for her services but she won't accept payment so they donate to her new department she runs)
The theater is called "Gideon Theater" of course.
Other characters make up the orchestra but I'm too lazy to look them up rn. Up to your imagination but like Charles from 5 plays bass clarinet. The two from the pound of flesh trap are here too. I don't remember their names but the girl plays clarinet and the guy is percussion (I can see him playing xylophone the hammer bell things and crashing th cymbals) And the last surviving dude from the fatal 5 plays trumpet. I know their names my brain is just fried right now
Oh and Bobby's BFF I think he's named after spinach or some other leafy vegetable I can't remember but he's an investor in the theater too.
(Just because I don't have motivation to write this I'd love for people to write their own interpretation of this and tag me) (bonus points if we cross universes and Specs and Tucker show up) (I don't expect anyone to actually do this)

The JQ Connection: Part 3
I see two many movies. 🤦🏻‍♀️
Winona Ryder
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beetlejuice, Little Women, Girl, Interrupted, Dracula, and Heathers: wow…didn’t realise how much WR has been in my life. Fun fact…I actually saw Winona from far when filming Girl, Interrupted. It took place in Harrisburg where I live and was filmed a couple blocks from my Grandpa’s house.
Show with Joe: Stranger Things as Joyce Byers
David Bradley
Tumblr media
Harry Potter, Doctor Who, and Game of Thrones: He actually was on DW twice as the first Doctor William Hartnell and on Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. And yes…he was the one that was responsible for the Red Wedding. 😲
Show with Joe: Les Miserables as Gillenormand
Jamie Campbell-Bower
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sweeney Todd and Twilight Series: I’ve watched ST and listened to the soundtrack so many times, seen it twice and worked one of the shows. No one needed their scripts when I was there 😂 Whether we admit it or not…Twilight is life.
Show with Joe(and hope for many more to come): Stranger Things as Henry Creel/Vecna/001
Sean Astin
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lord of the Rings series and Encino Man: love LOTR and the Hobbit it’s timeless. Encino Man is hilarious and the best cast.
Show with Joe: Stranger Things as Bob Newby
Cary Elwes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Princess Bride and Saw: I watched Princess Bride all the time when I was a kid. In Saw, Cary gave one of the best performances I’ve ever seen.
Show with Joe: Stranger Things as Mayor Larry Kline
Honourable Mention:
John Krasinski
Tumblr media
The Office: I didn’t get it at first when I saw it with my ex-husband and his family but later on I got it. Now I’ve been so obsessed with it and have visited Scranton several times because of it.
Movie with Joe: While he’s not in QPD1 with Joe, he did star in the first movie as Lee Abbott and wrote all three films as well as Part 3. He’s truly a genius and because of him Joe is in a summer blockbuster.

Bette Davis in The Letter (William Wyler, 1940)
Cast: Bette Davis, Herbert Marshall, James Stephenson, Frieda Inescort, Gale Sondergaard, Bruce Lester, Elizabeth Inglis, Cecil Kellaway, Victor Sen Yung, Doris Lloyd, Willie Fung, Tetsu Komai. Screenplay: Howard Koch, based on a play by W. Somerset Maugham. Cinematography: Tony Gaudio. Art direction: Carl Jules Weyl. Film editing: George Amy, Warren Low. Music: Max Steiner.
As Tony Gaudio's camera travels across the Malayan rubber plantation we hear shots being fired, and as we track closer we see Leslie Crosbie (Bette Davis), coming down her front steps with a grimly determined look on her face, firing the remaining bullets from her revolver into a man on the ground. And we sit back and relax and think, "Oh, yeah, Bette's here. This is gonna be good." Davis is one of the few stars who can almost always make us feel this way -- maybe Cary Grant or Barbara Stanwyck for me -- who else for you? And it is good, perhaps the best of the three films Davis made with William Wyler. For me, Jezebel (1938) is too steeped in the Hollywood Old South myth, and The Little Foxes (1941) too hamstrung by Lillian Hellman's dramaturgy. This one has a very fine screenplay by Howard Koch that deftly steps on and around the restrictions placed on it by the Production Code. For one thing, Leslie has to be punished for her crime, which involves not only murder but also, with the help of her lawyer, Howard Joyce (James Stephenson), suborning justice. (Joyce somehow gets off scot-free, though with an embittered conscience.) Wyler got a bad rap from the auteur critics like Andrew Sarris, who found his technical skills insufficiently personal. But we see something of Wyler's daring early in the film as Leslie is recounting her version of why she shot Geoffrey Hammond to her lawyer, her husband (Herbert Marshall), and a government official (Bruce Lester) who has been called to the scene. Wyler chooses to shoot a long segment of Leslie's story with the backs of Leslie and the three men to the camera: We don't see their faces, but only the room where the initial shooting took place. The effect, relying heavily on Davis's voice acting and Koch's script, is to place Leslie's narrative -- which as others comment rarely varies by a word -- in our minds instead of the truth. It is, for Davis, a splendidly icy and controlled performance. The major fault in the film today is in the condescension toward Asian characters typical of Hollywood in the era, though it's not as bad perhaps in 1940 as it would be after Pearl Harbor a year later. We learn that Hammond had a Eurasian wife (the Code-enforced substitute for the Chinese mistress of W. Somerset Maugham's 1927 play), and in 1940s Hollywood "Eurasian" invariable meant "sinister," especially when she's played by Gale Sondergaard. The other Asians in the film are treated as subordinates, including Joyce's Chinese law clerk, Ong Chi Seng (Victor Sen Yung), who is all smiles and passive aggressiveness. That we are expected to share in this colonialist order of things is especially apparent when Leslie is forced to deliver the payment for the incriminating letter to Mrs. Hammond, who lords it over Leslie, making her remove her shawl to bare her head and to place the money in her hands; then Mrs. Hammond drops the letter on the floor, making Leslie pick it up. If today we cheer at Mrs. Hammond's abasement of Leslie, who after all killed her husband, you can bet that 1940s audiences, or at least the white ones, didn't.

Time for Stranger Things 3 episode 7 and we are in the final two.
I really like that the series is starting to find its foot between "homage", "reference" and "nostalgia" rather than just cribbing actual 80's movies. I joked at the beginning that they were cribbing Resident Evil 2's homework with the rats scenes, but the truth is that they have managed to do their own thing.
The fair scene is a good example for this. I can think of a LOT of 80's movies where the horror began both on the fourth of july and in a town fair, but none with the exact type of scene that we have here. Same with Major Westley (Sorry, it's Cary Elwes, he will always be Westley to me), who reminds me of the Jaws major but more evil as at least the Jaws major wasn't colluding with the shark. He is ALL of slimy evil majors in the 80's and it works. I also hope he gets eaten by the not-the-blob.
(I really love the 80's Blob remake. I might have to do a video on it later)
The Anti-Mind-Flayer team is not that good without Steve and Hooper around I see. Also, I like that WILL is the Mind Flayer's tracking device, and not Eleven.
Dustin is good driving for his first time. And the Teenagers are so, so high this is so funny.
Dustin is so good as a nurse. Even if his patients are definitely not cooperating.
OOOH! Nancy got a gun! See, I like Nancy when she's being proactive and violent. Not when she's being a girlfriend. So get her more guns, less boys please.
Oooh, evil tentacles in a cabin in the woods! Classic. Now say Groovy Nancy!
Darn. She ran out of bullets. Bummer. SO it comes back to Eleven.
Eleven is running out of hands.
Jonathan and his axe are absolutely useless. But Lucas? Lucas got the axe! Go Lucas!
I think they're the Fighter and the Barbarian in the DnD Party. And by that I mean Lucas is the Fighter and Nancy the Barbarian.
El REALLY needs to read X-men.
Oh, hey, Back to the Future! That's a great think.
Aw, Dustin! You now know how Steve feels with your friends.
Meanwhile, team Smirnoff is... not a good start. Hooper needs to understand that Joyce is much better leader than he is. But I am with Murray. Not about the sexual feelings, but about the fact that the sparring is getting stale.
Murray, btw, is way too good at this lamp shading. I am starting to like him and I hated him last season.
Aww, Murray and Alexei are bonding over the fact that they ship Hooper and Joyce. If they keep it up I will ship them and then they both will die.
Lucas found firepower!
I think I may have to upgrade Lucas to Artificer.
Oh, dear, Mike is being honest. Thank good he is going to be interrupted by Dustin.
Apparently watching Back to the Future high is too much for Steve.
And so is the Mall.
No, seriously, High Steve is so fun.
OMG, Major Westley has a car phone! I had forgotten Car phones!
Mike is an idiot but in this case, he's right. New Coke is horrible.
Oh, shit. That thing is also in El's blood. UGH.
Truth or dare while high on truth serum is a bad idea, Robin.
But she's right about Nancy. She's a priss. And hey, Steve is no longer in love with Nancy... but I really hope that he's not in love with Robin because it's not going to work.
Writers... you either cut this shit out, or I'm going to yell at you.
Robin... omg, is she saying what she is saying?
SHE IS! OMG, Robin is in love with a girl!
Oh, the penny dropped.
I knew they were not good for each other. But... come on, supernanny, don't let me down. AND HE DIDN'T LET ME DOWN! He's now bonding with his gay best girl who is a friend! Steve, I love you so much. Now get that shit out of your system, find a girl or a boy (Because his thinking? Made me think it's the first time he realized that he has OPTIONS) and you can go on double dates with Robin, Tammy the deaf tone girl, and your partner.
I will not ship Murray/Alexei, I will not ship Murray/Alexei...
Damn. I am shipping Murray/Alexei. They are SO Dead.
Ted Wheeler needs to be in a different series, poor him.
Ah, the drugs are off. And yet they don't think that elevators without electricity are JUST stairs.
And oh, poor Alexei. He's dead now.
See, if I ship, they die. Sorry.
Ooh! Classic chase in Fun house maze!
Ow, poor Alexei. Poor Murray. He had found love and now he lost it.
Well, maybe he will survive to season 4. Alexei was dead even before.I started shipping because well, some one was going to kill him.
Now I wonder if Hooper will get the terminator, or the Mind Flayer will
OH! Major Westley's name is Larry! And he totally deserved that. He was the one who got Alexei killed.
GREAT! Now Team Smirnoff thinks the children are at the mall. Which they are, just not the children they are looking for. Fortunately, THEIR children are also going to the mall. And so is the giant Mind Flayer which I really hope gets to eat some Russians before he gets killed.
EL to the rescue!
She's getting the hang of great entrances.
So ok, ALL the children are now in the Mall. Good.
Oh, getting everyone up to date, is hard. And I knew that thing was in El. Now how do we get it out? Do we need a russian doctor?
Oh. CLiffhanger. Of course. Well, I will have to wait a bit for the next chapter.
