had a really good night. feeling a little bit sick to my stomach but what can you do
#met seth from poolboy again today!! twice if you count each occurrence how i did the first time#so i’ve seen poolboy twice and theoretically met seth five times. i mean that’s how many conversations i had so. pretty fucking awesome#however i feel a little bit ill. cause of listening to my recording and hearing how awfully annoying i am#the keyboardists fiancé was actually standing right in front of us and so after the show he talked to us#cause me and my two friends who were there we were singing along to all the songs and poolboy is not a very famous band#so after the set was done the guy was like asking us questions and then he’s like yeah i’m actually engaged to jp from poolboy#and anyway that was really really cool in the moment. i just feel a little bit ill hearing myself talk to him?#like ‘poolboy is my fAvorite band .. ‘ ‘..my favorite song of theirs tOtal is corrections’#i dont know. i think i’m just dysphoric and autistic so i have to feel bad about conversations when i have them recorded#but. um. i met jp dreblow’s fiancé that’s Pretty Cool. and i talked to seth and he gave me a free CD!!!!#cause i only had a $20 or a $5 and it was $10 and they didn’t have change and so he said it’s fine just take it for free!!!!#this was after i told him that they’re my favorite band and the absolute coolest and that we had seen them before back in january#and all of that. and i did meet him three times that day (shdhdf it’s a silly way to count it) but also got his autograph so. i’m really#lucking out with these interactions. secret to a dream life: have the most random guys who live in your state be your favorite band#it can’t go wrong. these guys are absolutely incredible and i have had so many random opportunities to say hi and be really excited#anyways i have a year of the weasel vinyl from the january show (with autograph) and a good orchard CD from today (free and with lyrics)#and i got a photo with seth today. i’m pretty sure what i said was ‘could i get a photo with you if that’s normal?’ and he said yeah sure#i feel like my relationship with poolboy is like. the opposite of a parasocial relationship. or like the most amplified version of that#cause i think of them as super cool unattainable celebrities but it’s like. some guy with a masters in library science who i’m probably the#first person to have asked for an autograph or a photo or anything like that. but see there’s the funny thing is that it’s both kinds of it#on the one hand i think of them as fancy fancy when they’re just some guys. but i also think of myself as The Only Poolboy Superfan which is#not necessarily true. who knows really. but they’re sure pretty freaking awesome and i sure got to see them today!!!!#anyway i’m real tired but i was really happy to see poolboy today. even though i feel a little bit sick about how i speak and sound#cause that’s not going to change. and it’s not like anyone said anything about it so i can assume they didn’t notice#i just have this creeping feeling at all times that everyone i meet is just treating me nice cause i’m too obviously autistic#like they hear what i say and they hate me and they judge me but they say well clearly something’s wrong with this kid so i’ll let it slide#but hey. some people love me. so hopefully your average stranger doesn’t hate me as much as i’m scared they might. i sure hope they don’t#anyway i had a good night it was really good i’m just being me a little bit. i hope everyone is well i’m about to go to sleep#friends only#i’ll be around in the morning this is my last tag i love you all very much and see you tomorrow goodnight

Karma is a concept that originates from Indian religions and philosophies, particularly in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism. It is a fundamental belief that encompasses the idea of cause and effect, moral responsibility, and the principle of cosmic justice. The term "karma" itself is derived from the Sanskrit word "kri," meaning "action" or "deed."
It's important to note that interpretations of karma may vary between different religious and philosophical traditions. While Hinduism and Buddhism share the concept of karma, they have distinct views on its mechanics and ultimate purpose.
The science of karma revolves around the idea of actions, intentions, and consequences, with a strong emphasis on ethics and personal responsibility. It offers a framework for understanding how one's choices can shape their destiny, both in this life and potentially in future incarnations, and it encourages individuals to lead virtuous lives with the hope of ultimately achieving spiritual liberation.

We do not live in a universe of scarcity. The earth is even more alive than you think. We have everything we need. Zero point free energy overunity technology exists, but if everyone had this, big oil would instantly become obsolete and crumble. If you have quadrillions of assets in big oil, your empire is gone, so of course you would do anything in your power to never let free energy tech see the light of day. That's why we have to come together, create it, and distribute it ourselves. There is hope.

The UK government is looking for ways to protect the country's tech and life sciences sectors from losses caused by the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB). It is exploring options such as an emergency fund to provide a cash lifeline to support startups, and a private bailout. Several bidders have expressed interest in taking over SVB's UK subsidiary, including the Bank of London, OakNorth, Royal, HSBC, and JP Morgan. US customers of SVB will have access to all their cash on Monday, with the $250,000 deposit protection cap being scrapped. Regulators are offering a $25bn emergency lending facility for other American banks. The collapse of SVB, the biggest bank failure since 2008, has put hundreds of startups at risk of insolvency. The government is asking affected startups to disclose how much cash they had on deposit at SVB UK, how much they tend to spend each month, and whether they had access to any other bank accounts other than the collapsed lender.

Ranting about how JP is not a good critique of capitalism made me want to talk about a sci-fi monster movie that is an excellent AND highly relevant exploration of anticapitalistic themes: Alien (1979).
First I want to say that if you haven’t seen Alien, please do so before I spoil it for you. It’s not just one of my all time favourites, but also one of the greatest pieces of science fiction ever created. For real, please go watch it.
Tumblr media
The biological aspects of Alien are often the most talked about themes in the movie, which is fair, because they’re simultaneously very interesting and in-your-face. Most viewers remember the movie for the gory sexual imagery, not for an authentic depiction of class struggle. I actually wrote a video essay a while back that I never made about how our innate disgust and resulting fear of parasites/parasitoids is the primary driver behind the xenomorph’s ongoing popularity. I’m not immune to this aspect of Alien’s eternal intrigue, that’s for sure.
However, there’s one narrative element that makes Alien ripe for class analysis, especially today, and that is the film’s portrayal of artificial intelligence.
Tumblr media
AI in Alien is consistently shown to be hostile to the crew, but not because of a glitch, like HAL in 2001: Space Odyssey, or because they decide to rise up against their oppressors, like in Terminator. No, what makes Ash, the android, and MOTHER, the ship’s AI, so threatening is that they are doing exactly what they were programmed to do — whatever it takes to ensure corporate interests. In this case, they are programmed to ensure the survival of an extraterrestrial monster at the cost of the crew.
The audience isn’t privy to all the things that Ash does to meet this goal, but at the very least he breaks quarantine protocols, does a shitty job of watching the facehugger, lets Kane join the rest of the crew for a meal (when they still don’t know what it did to him!), plays dumb once the xenomorph is on the loose, and attempts to murder Ripley when she discovers his mandate. If it weren’t for Ripley being a determined badass, Ash might’ve gone unnoticed until the whole crew was dead and the Weyland-Yutani Corporation had their mitts on the alien so they can cause another catastrophe.
Tumblr media
This horror, that you will encounter AI whose programming doesn’t care if you live or die, is what makes Alien’s take on the subject so relevant. Dipshits like Elon Musk or some shitty tech journalist might try and convince us that ChatGBT scary because it can fake being human, as if Skynet is right around the corner.
No, the real horror of AI is that the people in power (our bosses, our politicians, etc.) are going to use it to exploit us, just like how they use everything else.
Tumblr media
In the end, it takes being skeptical of things that seem trustworthy for Ripley to defeat Ash. The audience finds out from the Nostromo’s captain, Dallas, that Ash was a last minute addition to the crew, as chief science officer. This is a role that inherently engenders trustworthiness in the face of the unknown, especially for a crew that is basically a bunch of working joes. It’s not unbelievable to conceive this was purposeful by Weyland-Yutani to make Ash above suspicion. That, combined with literally naming the ship’s AI MOTHER, of all things, shows that the company is deliberately weaponizing aesthetics to foster a positive relationship between the crew and their AI agents.
Alien serves as a reminder to be vigilant as we enter the AI boom, because these programs will be used to exploit us, and corporations WILL try to cloak this purpose behind relatability, convenience, and trust. The AI we encounter is more likely to be Ash or MOTHER than it is to be Data or Skynet.

Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary - A Celebration of Change in Science
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, I’ve made a series of drawings celebrating Jurassic Park’s 30th anniversary, specifically highlighting how much science has changed vs. when the original movie came out, and how much it affected the dinos of the franchise’s history.
First is the raptors, with a JP raptor here with Utahraptor and its namesake, Velociraptor.
Second is Spinosaurus, because JP3 has it’s 22nd anniversary this year, and the dude has changed repeatedly.
And finally, Tyrannosaurus rex itself. The modern T.rex is every bit as mighty and formidable as its fictional counterpart, and in some aspects (vision, overall build etc.) even more so. It’s only just much slower.
