What is your fave anime and why?

Soul Eater

Love me a strong female shounen lead. IMO Soul Eater has some of the best action animation and some of the strongest team building. Like, as I'm watching it I wanted everyone to succeed both individually and as a team and I think everyone's relationships with each other developed in a very natural way.

Would love to see a brotherhood style revival where it follows the manga as we were robbed from some incredible scenes, simply because they didn't exist yet. Plus a better ending imo. Not great but one that makes more sense.

Plus I'm a spooky bitch.

okay, bin day with domestic!141 under the cut

price is the unofficial "binfluencer" of the street. you absolutely rely on him to make sure you're putting out the general waste and glass recycling on the correct week. his bins are out at 8pm the night before collection, no earlier and no later. they're lined up with military precision outside his house, carefully placed so they don't block the pavement too much nor do they block his driveway. he never gets caught out by a bank holiday collection change.

gaz isn't quite on price's level but he puts out the correct bin 9 out of 10 times. he puts his bins out the night before too but it's not uncommon to hear him dragging the wheelie bin out at 10pm. less methodical about where he places his bins but it's not terrible. has definitely accidentally blocked his garden gate before. occasionally gets caught out by bank holidays but makes the effort to move his bins out of the way so people can still use the pavement in the meantime.

soap is my ADHD darling and i refuse to believe differently. he tries bless him, but there are just too many steps to remembering which bins go out each week so he chucks everything out and hopes for the best. has on multiple occasions dragged the bins out at 6am just as the bin lorry is turning onto the street because he forgot to put them out the night before. he's definitely been caught out standing in his boxers watching the bin lorry turn out of the street because he's missed them by mere minutes. oh well. only 6 days until the next bin collection.

ghost is sneaky. you never EVER see or hear him put his bins out. you'd think he was living in an unoccupied house if it wasn't for the brief glimpse you caught of him lifting (lifting?!) the wheelie bin over the low wall of his front garden with a cigarette hanging out of the corner of his mouth moments after it was emptied. ghost definitely has the best relationship with the bin men. they're happy to chuck out his bulky items that you'd definitely need to ask the council to collect separately.

I did Crimson Flower first in my Three Houses run and... honestly, Edelgard wasn't even remotely as convincing to me to join her as the fact I'd get to fuck Jeritza.

Beresu I've chosen for the job grew up in Ardesian Empire and I've definitely leaned into Ashen Demon idea as much as possible, so what I've got was a merciless butcher, not a revolutionary firebrand. I expected Edelgard to be this scary red emperor with the grand ideas that justify the means, I expected the vibe of Nine Inch Nails' Survivalism, but instead she's an absolute dork and Hubert does everything morally dubious for her. It reminded me of Corrin in Fates on Nohr path and it definitely did not endear me to her.

Generally speaking the only interesting bits were Jeritza (love this man, best girl) and... maybe Hubert. Honestly speaking, with the way Hubert acts I expected him to be a Flame Emperor after seeing Edelgard. I just genuinely don't get how Crimson Flower Edelgard can be even remotely convincing - she's scary in White Clouds at times, but then it's nothing but dork, dork, dork, Beresu I hate rats, Beresu my path is stained in blood despite the fact I can barely reach any enemy in my automatic promotes and Hubert, Jeritza and you kill most of the enemies instead.

She's idealistic, but it's never really shown how much she's willing to mow down people for her ideals - we don't see destruction, we don't see any particular drama. The only bits closest to it were me deliberately not recruiting any non-BE students aside from Mercedes, Anette, Marianne and Lorenz. Killing these students felt like something, but it isn't really enough and it's entirely optional.

I don't remember having the same movement issues with Hector when he was promoted, but damn if Supreme Leader's prf class was a nightmare, she was behind people and didn't have enough def to act as a suitable tank - she's supposed to be a player phase unit, but she doesn't have the mov stat to do so...

Granted, it was my first run too, so I missed on the heron festival event and didn't get a dancer :( but I played it before Emile was patched in, and, in a way, I thought it was on purpose - Supreme Leader says she'll explain everything to Billy later on, when they see Emile fighting with them when the BESF attacks the Monastery, and nothing is ever explained post TS - much like how the war was supposed to get rid of Rhea because she has scales, but come the post TS and we're not embarking on the MAGA ride, to conquer Fodlan!

Corn at least, in Conquest, spent more time angsting at the casualties and blood shed - to the point some players found it uncomfortable - Corn notable tried to save people or reacts strongly when Scarlet is Hans'd (just like Sakura's army? I don't remember that well).

It's less artificial than Supreme Leader who only says this in some support lines, or when she's alone with you - her lines feels more like a compulsory thing to say, a box to tick, than a regular reaction. There's nothing similar to Corn's distress or at least gambit to try to spare the defeated soldiers, instead, we have a round of hypocrisy because Rhea BaD when she doesn't let people evacuate the city before turning it in a giant bbq - when we have Emile on our side and when other routes reveal the battle of the Monastery happens so fast after her declaration of war that the CoS doesn't have time to evacuate all of its residents (+Emile saying the grounds around the monastery are battlefields too) in the other routes.

Hubert is still the best part of CF, even if I sort of grew somehow interested at the students insulting Billy when they chop them off - sure my interest later died, but Judith's JP VA lit screaming and crying when Ignatz and Leonie died, Inoue!Rhea's lines delivery, everything bar the BESF itself managed to make the "we must kille people we knew sad uwus" hit closer to the mark than the onion scene, aka the one where Supreme Leader cries after beheading a defeated, and on his knees, Dimitri.

But I agree, it's almost if all the pathos that was supposed to be triggered by the "kill your students :'(" from the game went to the CF enemies, rather than to the other routes casualties.

Watch as I gave a fig, Ferdie dies in a map where he is fielded with a Demonic Beast iirc, aka a Feral One. If Ferdie doesn't see anything wrong fighting side by side with a Feral One and doesn't have the same circumstances Lorenz does (granted, even those circumstances are mushy) - especially since it's possible for Ferdie to defect since that's what he does in SS - I legit feel less figs that when we had to kill a retreating Judith, or an Ignatz or Leonie who were defending their homes - hell, even Hilda who, against all of her words and previous behaviour - finally puts her life on the line to protect someone.

TURN-110: Tyranno Kenzan VS Fossil Dragon Jim

Jim Crocodile has noticed an outbreak of strong electromagnetic waves at the Duel Academia. Accompanied by Judai, Johan, Shou, and Kenzan, Jim decides to investigate in the jungle. As they do, some strong electromagnetic waves spring up, causing his crocodile Karen to pounce on Kenzan--and at the same time, the effects of the electromagnetic waves cause Kenzan to forget who he is and pounce on Jim.* This leads to Jim having a duel with Kenzan, and as Kenzan instinctively summons his powerful Dinosaur Monsters, Jim activates his Kaseki Yuugou -- Fossil Fusion Magic Card to summon his Fossil Dragons. *Worth noting that the pre-airing summary text here makes it sound like Karen biting Kenzan and Kenzan lunging for Jim both happened as they're looking around in the jungle, when in the episode proper, Karen biting Kenzan is what gets Jim onto the scene; wonder if that was the original idea in production...

Well, mates, episode 110 is now up and finalized! With Season 3 starting off with a couple of two-parters, I figured I'd take a slight breather and work on just 110 this go-round given the multiple two-parters on the way. And it's a good one, as we're introduced more to Jim Crocodile Cook (and his well-done Australian accent in the dub, for some kudos there to 4Kids [some dialogue choices for him (and Kenzan [that's not how Tail Swing works???]) aside]) while also seeing how quickly Judai seems to have recovered after his duel with O'Brien, and we see the debut of Jim's Fossils, which would go on to take a good 18 years or so before finally being printed with some buffs to them; it was always an archetype I liked. Kenzan also just spending a good 3-4 minutes growling was A+ (a shame the dub just made him talk semi-primitively, even if it mostly works), more of Jim's Engrish was just as good, and I liked how Jim and Kenzan came away with some respect for each other by the end after how offended Kenzan was by the Fossil Fusion concept. Fun times!

Animation error-wise, like with 108-109, I mostly did some quality-of-watching touch-ups around split-screens (with some of the fixes I did also allowing me to get rid of some of the ghosting in the footage), though there two card fixes I applied with Kenzan. Details below under the cut as always for the interested!

Quick housekeeping: in case you missed it, I re-released my finalized episode 1 work, as I went back and applied various card fixes that were bugging me and that I've grown to be able to fix, lol. Still shook I first started finalizing everything in 2014... 💀 Currently, I don't anticipate going back to re-finalize anything pre-84, mostly due to the annoyance of cutting/splicing stuff to get around not having the original unreleased scripts I'd keep with the ATK/DEF counter subs and whatnot thanks to a 2022 data drive failure, and hopefully it stays that way. 😅 I also applied a few minor styling fixes to the ending credit subs for 105 and 108 (noticed the text for a few names in the cast lists were scaled inconsistently) and reuploaded those; rereleased episode 1 has been posted on NAC, while re-finalized 105 and 108 will be posted there with 110.

Anywho, enjoy! I'll likely be going back to some TFSP stuff for a bit (in case you missed that news~) and then I'll dip into episodes 111-112 and Manjoume VS Amon; stay tuned!

Fixes/Edits!

As Jim first activates Fossil Fusion, we see the card first before he fades in holding it, but his thumb is missing as his fade-in starts, and then it just appears, fully faded-in, in the next frame even though the rest of him is still fading in. I fixed this in Sony Vegas by masking out his thumb and adding it to the first frame in which Jim starts fading in, then making his thumb fade in with the rest of him.

Later, as Kenzan thinks Dark Driceratops bested Jim's Skullgar, Skullgar turns around and defeats it, causing Kenzan some damage; as he reacts while his LP drop, Jim slides in on a split-screen exclaiming "Bravo!", but his split-screen slide-in starts with his split already about 50% into the shot. After that, Jim sets one card face-down and ends his turn, and as Kenzan opens his eyes and starts to growl while the split-screen ends, Jim's split starts to slide out the frame after Kenzan starts to move. Fixed the first in Sony Vegas by re-doing his slide-in to be more natural and start closer to the edge of the screen, then fixed the second by just removing the one frame where Kenzan has moved but Jim hasn't so that they move simultaneously, holding a frame once the split-screen's over a frame longer to compensate.

As #2 here leads into Kenzan taking offense at how Jim woke his dinosaur out of its sleep to use as a piece for Jim's fossil "freak," he says he'll make Jim pay for that as their match gets going for real; Judai and co look on as Jim and Kenzan stare each other down on a split-screen leading to the eyecatch (the split-screen here cut from the dub, likely for time), but Jim's split slides in unevenly compared to Kenzan's. Fixed in Vegas by redoing his split's slide-in so they both slide in evenly.

Later, after Jim uses Dowsing Burn to take out Sabersaurus, Kenzan reacts as Jim slides in on a split-screen to declare his Sample Fossil summoning, but Jim's split starts to slide in with it already about 50% of the way into the shot. Fixed this in Vegas by redoing his slide-in to make it slide in more naturally, while also redoing Kenzan moving in the background to eliminate the ghosting during this split-screen's forming.

A bit after #4, Jim uses Sample Fossil to dig up Sabersaurus from Kenzan's Cemetery to make a specimen out of it, and as we see its chains working to drag its remains up from the ground, we see Kenzan still has Sabersaurus on his Disk despite it being in his Cemetery. Fixed this first in Photoshop by cleaning up the Monster Zone in question on the shot's first frame, then threw the fixed frame into Vegas, where I then shook it along with the screen for the rest of the shot, also slightly zooming it out and fading it out as the transition from Kenzan into the dug-up Sabersaurus happens.

Shortly after, as Jim taunts Kenzan about his lovely Sabersaurus specimen, Kenzan growls in response; Jim then slides in on a split-screen to say that Sample Fossil's ATK becomes equal to Sabersaurus's, but his split again starts to slide in with 50% of it already in the shot. Fixed this in Vegas by redoing his slide-in so it slides in more naturally, and redoing Kenzan moving to again eliminate some footage ghosting.

A bit later, Kenzan activates his Treasure of Variation card, and as the close-up shot on it transitions into a split-screen splitting apart to show Kenzan behind it explaining its effect, each side of the split-screen jitters slightly in the frame before it properly starts to split apart. Fixed this in Vegas by holding the earlier frame over the jittering frame so that it properly splits apart in the next frame.

After Kenzan's next turn, as Jim wonders if the electromagnetic waves aren't behind Judai and co's exhaustion, he draws another Fossil Fusion; he smiles upon seeing it, but his smile ends up being slightly drawn onto his eye bandages. Fixed this in Vegas by just masking the eye bandages over it to keep his smile off the bandages.

(9) After Kenzan's Brachion switches into Defense Mode from Jim summoning Skullgios, Jim is impressed by its 3000 DEF; Kenzan slides in on a split-screen to think that there's no way he can hold off an attack from Skullgios, but his split only starts to slide in the frame after Jim starts to move for it, and with it starting about 50% of the way into the shot. Fixed this in Vegas by redoing Kenzan's slide-in to start as Jim moves and slide in more naturally.

(10) As Jim has Skullgios pause its attack on Brachion, Kenzan looks up and wonders why, but as he does, we see that Brachion is on his Disk in Attack Mode despite it just going into Defense Mode. Fixed first in Photoshop as I blanked the Monster Zone in the first frame of the shot, then took it into AfterEffects to add a proxy in Defense Mode, and then took the fixed frame into Vegas to re-pan into the footage, masking in Brachion as it starts to cover the Zone up.

Western fandom views Golden Order Greatsword as an evidence that Radagon never loved Renalla and cynically reforged her wedding gift. But during my visits to the Japanese side of community I noticed that native speakers are calling this sword a copy and their interpretation of what happened between Radagon and Rennala is very different from EN. In my attempt to understand why there is such massive discrepancy of opinion between anglosphere and JP fandom I decided to check the description.

Telltale signs betray that this was once the greatsword bequeathed to him by his first wife, Rennala

面影 - has many meanings; modern ones such as vestige, traces, remnants, but also more archaic - in a memory of someone, reminder, looks, likeness.

Depends on the reading of "omokage" 面影 description of the Golden Order Greatsword can have two opposite interpretations: - Radagon didn't cared about about Rennala anymore and reforged her gift (Golden Order Greatsword bears traces of Moonlight Greatsword) - Radagon still loved Rennala and forged his new sword in the image of her gift (Golden Order Greatsword bears likeness of Moonlight Greatsword)

Official translation went with the first variant, which is the most popular reading of 面影. But Elden Ring often favors archaic Japanese over modern language, a good example of this case is a famous Greattree fiasco. Translators slept on 樹根 "roots" being an ancient term used in old times when Japan adapted Chinese hànzì, and created a magic tree, which ruined Western lore arena is never discussed by native speakers or mentioned at all. When it comes to difficult translation my golden rule is go to Japanese online spaces and find out what they think.

Well, I get it right and description is supposed to be vague as even native speakers are questioning what does it mean:

As you can see there is no consensus, majority of tweets I read were saying that the Golden Order Greatsword is a copy, not a reforged Moonlight Greatsword, but not everyone is so optimistic.

I'm not going to call description of the Golden Order Greatsword a mistranslation as even native speakers don't have a common interpretation of it, but I'm disappointed that EN missed the duality of 面影 and went with the most straightforward variant, missing original deeper meaning.

This sword is one of the greatest mysteries of Elden Ring lore to me as my blog started with investigation of Cave of the Forlorn, and I wonder if we will see Greatsword of Full Moon in DLC (if there will be any).

P.S. I've been already talking about many interesting details surrounding Golden Order Greatsword, but this time I want to pay attention to the color. According to the description "greatsword made of light, modeled after the Elden Ring itself" it is supposed to symbolize the Elden Ring, but I've found it interesting that a sybbol of Elden Ring in Radagon's interpretation has a very noticeable red tint.

Hey, if Luffy is the Sun and his nine crew mates are the planets resolving around him, who would be which planet?

Just by vibes only I would go: Mercury/Sanji; Venus/Nami; Earth/Usopp; Mars/Franky; Jupiter/Zoro; Saturn/Robin; Uranus/Chopper; Neptune/Jinbei; Pluto/Brook (Pluto will forever be a real planet to me)

The idea of the straw hats as the planets orbiting around luffy's sun is soso cute 😭💖 tbh I'm not super knowledgeable about these things BUT I do know a bit of roman mythology broadly speaking so I'd say jimbei as neptune, the god of the sea and counterpart to poseidon, fits nicely. brook the "soul king" as pluto, god of the underworld, counterpart to hades, too. I'd probably switch nami and sanji with each other bc of the mythology bits too (mercury and venus are, among other things, the god and goddess of commerce/financial gain/luck and love/beauty, respectively) aaand zoro to be the earth as well, but mostly for symbolic reasons since he's kind of a rock/steady/grounding pillar for luffy and the straw hats. you could also make a case for moon!zoro, usopp remaining as earth and adding vivi as jupiter instead.

I think it’s a reach when fandom seriously believes John chose Yoko simply because he ‘couldn’t have’ Paul. I do think John had complicated feelings about Paul that changed but to put those feelings on the same level of his relationship with Yoko has always seemed wishful thinking. I mean I do think they were often toxic (their relationship seems to have stemmed from trauma bonding imo) but it seems clear that they really were in love when it comes down to it.

While I'm not sure I agree that the feelings weren't in any sense "on the same level" (John drew the comparison between Paul and Yoko himself several times), I DO think it's a reach to think John's interest in Yoko is purely because he couldn't have Paul (thereby putting his feelings for Yoko below Paul).

But in a broader sense, I'm with you. The fandom does generally downplay John and Yoko's relationship – as well as any non JohnandPaul-relationship – to bolster McLennon. I find it a bit… myopic. It's the One True Love thing, really. Because in theory both of them being involved with women doesn't take away from whatever feelings they had for each other. But sometimes certain people seem to de facto act like it does and feel the need to insist neither of John's marriages were based on anything real, in order for him to be "allowed" to harbour romantic feelings for Paul.

In regards to talking with native speakers, i think that you can just talk to them like you would to anyone else (without treating it as language practice), because i think that most people would appreciate that you are learning their language even if you're not perfect!
