I’m on season five of Desperate Housewives and I know it was the 2000s, I remember the body shaming all too well but I hate the way they’re talking about Juanita Solis. Almost every other thing said about that kid is about her being fat or comparing her to a linebacker. I really hope the actress didn’t internalize this stuff too much.

I'm thinking about watching Desperate Housewives but the only storyline I care about is Gabrielle 'Switched at Birth' storyline, however I know they didn't do it right.
I found her relationship with Grace so fascinating, however it was weird that Carmen Grace's adoptive mom didn't seem to want to spend time with her bio daughter Juanita. Carlos was a little to ready to forgot about Grace, I know he didn't carry her for nine months, but if Gabrielle started noticing the similarities between her and Grace, he should have noticed them too.
That call to immigration was wild, like why not sit both girls down and be like your were switched at birth, the girls could get to know their bio families and each other. It seemed like only Gabrielle was wanting to get to know her child and all the other characters didn't care.
Idk 😅 I just think about this storyline and how it could have been handled better.

Madison De La Garzia, also known as Juanita Solis from Desperate Housewives talked recently about the impact of fatphobia from her own perspective as a child actor. She was between 6 and 8.

I try not to use buzzfeed as a source but the article is simple and explains what you need to know.
Fatphobes makes me sick, the general view of the public on CHILDRENS BODIES makes me sick. Who ARE you to literraly insult a CHILD on their looks....

Early yesterday morning, students at the University of Maryland entered the biology lab of assistant professor Nicholas Solis to find a scene of horror. Seven persons, all celebrated professors at the university, have been reported dead by campus police, Solis among them. The bodies were reportedly found desiccated, or dried of moisture until mummified. A machine was also recovered from the laboratory, which was identified by experts on the scene as a large, custom-built desiccator cabinet. Notably, the controls for the machine were located inside the cabinet.
Neither the university nor campus police responded to a request for a comment by the time of publication.
Nicholas Solis was best known for the controversial paper he was co-authoring with his wife, Professor of Anthropology Juanita Solis. Titled “The Spiritual Relevance of Tardigrades in Pre-Apocalyptic Culture”, the paper posited that the microscopic organisms known as tardigrades would be elevated to a “religious” level of cultural importance within the next fifty years. Drawing on the tardigrade’s legendary ability to survive extreme heat, cold, and the vacuum of space, Juanita Solis reportedly believed the animal reflected humanity’s determination to survive in a “world razed by nuclear testing and climate change.” Despite being far-fetched, the premise of this paper had apparently attracted a large underground following at the University of Maryland. Juanita Solis was unable to be reached for comment, and it is unknown if the paper will be published in June as was scheduled.

The therapists on Desperate Housewives are terrible. I can’t fathom a therapist advising someone to pretend someone never existed and purge reminders of them from existence. Particularly if that someone is a child. And Carlos has absolutely no empathy for Gabrielle. Keeping pictures of Grace in a safe deposit box was a perfectly reasonable compromise, but Carlos insisted she throw all of her pictures of Grace away.
