In honor of Father's Day today, our post will feature a very special girl to me who has overcome some serious daddy issues in her time...

That's right! Time for my girl, the best there is at what she does: Laura Kinney, AKA X-23/Wolverine! I tend to see her as an ace lesbian.

Anybody who knows me or has even just followed me long enough knows how much I love Laura. Truly, she is my favorite X-Man, favorite superhero in general, and part of a very small set of characters I hold as closely as I can to my heart.

But, to the point: I see her as ace based in large part on vibes. But it's also to do with the fact that she became so important to me at a time in my life when I was starting to wonder for the first time if I was ace (if you're wondering, at this point I think of myself as gray-ace/demi).

Meanwhile, the lesbian part is partly just because I like the idea, the same way I do for lots of characters, but also partly because every single relationship they've put her in with dudes over the years feels hollow and token to me. There's plenty of M/F couples that I like, and many more that I can at least understand the appeal of. None of those involve Laura. Y'know what Laura ship does make sense to me?

(I also wish it to be noted for the record that, in that last one, Laura picked that costume herself. She had other options. She went with that. And so I find that reaction hilarious.)

Yeah, Jubilaura is a big part of this too. If that's a new pairing on ya, then enjoy lol.

I don’t think it’s going to happen, but I think JubiLaura being canon in X-Men ‘97 would be the funniest outcome possible for queer rep.

Like Laura’s already from a different animated series, so it’d be neat to see her retrofitted to the ‘92 animation style in of itself... but I think it’d be extra funny on a metatextual level to just be like “Hey, the teen character everyone loved from the 2000s show is coming to ‘97 and will be kissing the teen character everyone loved in the ‘92 show.”

Plus we’d get to see the internet at large find out about homoerotic vampire Jubilee, which is very funny without context...

I say a lot that I headcanon Laura as asexual but I wanted to say more about that. So, behold! The paragraph-long essay on my asexualLauraKinney headcanon!

So - I headcanon Laura as an asexual lesbian. Towards her asexual identity, I see her as sex-neutral. She is not very uncomfortable with the idea of sex, it's mostly something she has no strong feelings about.

Laura asexual awakening and lesbian awakening are pretty tied-in. Before she realized she was a lesbian, she had a comphet (I wouldn't say it was due to homophobia but due to being raised in a lab and not being very good with your emotions) and dated boys. Honestly, I don't know if there's actual canon evidence that she had sex with a boy but I believe she did. Once. Both could clearly realize Laura was enjoying it far less than her partner, so they stopped mid-act (Which one or her love interests? Doesn't really matter. Also, stopping sex when you realize your partner is not really enjoying it is just something a decent person does)

Laura thought that maybe she didn't knew what to do and that's why it felt weird, maybe she just had something wrong with her. She feels weird for not liking sex. Everyone seems to like sex, why not her?

With time, Laura falls in love with Jubilee. She realizes this is actually the first time she ever fell in love. She liked her boyfriends, but it was a different feeling than the romantic love she feels for Jubilee. That's her lesbian awakening.

At some point, Laura and Jubilee decide to have sex. Laura believes the reason she didn't enjoy having sex with her boyfriend is because she isn't attracted to men at all. She and Jubilee have sex, and again, stop mid-act. Jubilee asks Laura if she's okay. Laura says she thinks she doesn't like sex at all and doesn't know why.

Jubilee decides to google it and finds some stories by asexual people talking about how they discovered her sexuality and shows it to Laura. Laura does internet research on asexuality and realizes she relates a lot to it.

Laura takes Jubilee on a date and oficially tells her she is asexual. At first Laura is kinda afraid of rejection, but Jubilee has no problems.

Laura: And since I'm asexual, I can't give you what you want...

Jubilee: I'm not dating you only for sex. I can live a life without it if it means living with you.
