FOTD #067 : jubilee waxcap! (gliophorus reginae)

the jubilee waxcap is an agaric fungus in the family hygrophoraceae. it is distributed across europe & found most often in unpopulated grassy areas. it is a threatened species !!

the big question : can i bite it?? it is classified as inedible.

g. reginae description :

"basidiocarps are agaricoid, up to 70 mm (2.75 in) tall, the cap hemispherical to broadly umbonate becoming flat, up to 55 mm (2 in) across. the cap surface is smooth, highly viscid when damp, dull violet-purple, sometimes with pink, red, or brown tones. the lamellae (gills) are waxy, pale cap-coloured, sometimes with yellowish tints. the stipe (stem) is smooth, viscid, white, sometimes yellowish at the base, lacking a ring. the spore print is white, the spores (under a microscope) smooth, inamyloid, ellipsoid, measuring about 6 to 8.5 by 4 to 5.5 μm."

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent their day touring the Borneo Rainforest in Sabah on their final day in Malaysia.

They travelled to Danum Valley where they visited the Danum Valley Field Centre Lab before going on a tour of the rainforest.

Carriages decorated in flowers celebrating “Juneteenth” (June 19, 1913)

Since 1865, June 19th has been the annual Day of Jubilee marking the end of slavery in America. While the official date was marked with the enactment of the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, the news was not heard in Texas until June 19, 1865. Celebrations broke out spontaneously and the day became a yearly event.
