“Her lack of sympathy is so very well known, Clehame Sandry. She is one of those who cannot believe that not everyone has her strength of mind. There is a reason people will say a thing is as unbreakable as the will of the empress.” [Gudruny] bit her lip and added, “I also think those who kidnapped Her Imperial Majesty were far more gentle with her, more careful of doing her harm, than are those who steal women who are not imperial heiresses. I think perhaps she had more opportunity to escape, so she believes we all have such opportunities to escape.”
Gudruny Iarun, Tamora Pierce, "The Will of the Empress"

Quote
Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man -- you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself -- that you will escape the judgment of God?
Romans 2:1-3 ESV (2016)

The well-known phrase “only God can judge me” is something from the late singer Tupac Shakur, not Scripture. Although we are indeed commanded to judge other people (Ezekiel 3:18-21; Matthew 7:1-6; Matthew 13-20; 1 Corinthians 5:11; 1 Corinthians 5:12; 1 Corinthians 15:33, etc.), none of this judgment will come close to what someone will experience when they are judged by God. We can only judge one’s visible fruit, but what if they live a secret life of sin we know nothing about? God will judge your thoughts (Ecclesiastes 12:14), all your secrets laid bare before Him (Romans 2:16), all you’ve said (Matthew 12:36-37), and all your deeds will be known (Romans 2:6). Unlike being judged by human beings, you will not mock God (Galatians 6:7). Unless you repent and believe unto salvation (2 Corinthians 7:10), you will be found guilty of your sins. However, God offers us a way out of the condemnation against us. We have had “the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us... nailed it to the cross” (Colossians 2:14). Those who have been crucified with Christ will no longer live for themselves but they’ll now live for Christ (Galatians 2:20) and will no longer be slaves to sin (Romans 6:6). God either sees all your “good deeds,” which are filthy (Isaiah 64:6), or God will see the righteousness of His Son imputed to you (1Corinthians 1:30). As George Whitefield said, “Christ's righteousness delivers believers from the guilt of [sin]: Christ is their Savior, and is become a propitiation for their sins... By having Christ's righteousness imputed to them, they are dead to the law, as a covenant of works; Christ has fulfilled it for them, and in their stead.” God will judge you. The question is: will He see your righteousness or the righteousness of Christ imputed to you?

“You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.” (Romans 14:10)

My family is extremely judgmental about almost everything I’m not even talking about stuff about me but it just gets very frustrating to deal with
Hey there,
It must be really difficult for you in regards to your family being really judgemental to you and other things that happens in life. I am wondering if you have ever felt or been comfortable with talking to them about them being so judgemental. Perhaps you could say something like..
“I find it really difficult when you judge me and others and..”
And from there, try to think about a few things that may be helpful for them to do in order to treat or react to you better instead.
I think that it’s really helpful that when a person is doing a behaviour or reacting to us in a way that is not helpful for us at all, then to try to brain storm ways in which they can change and what they could try to do instead. I know that this won’t be an easy process but it will at least be a start and from there maybe you and your family could work together in making changes that will be of benefit for all. It’s also important to note too that sometimes people may be judgemental because that is all that they know on how to act/ react to people. This is why it’s so important to talk about this stuff with them because if you can’t communicate to others with something that they may be doing that isn’t helpful for you then there is a good chance that nothing will change at all and that things will stay the same. So, my question to you is would you feel comfortable in bringing this up with your family? Perhaps you could just chat to one member of your family first, see how that goes and go from there. Just an idea!
I really hope that this has helped a bit and please do let us know if we can help to support you in any other way!
I’m thinking of you and hope that you are going well!
Take care,
Lauren

Freeform Friday: Thoughts on addiction and addicts
I had a disagreement with a friend recently, and it still bugs me. We’re still friends, and will be. The person who made the remarks that bothered me is a genuinely good person, and a valuable and dear friend. This one opinion though… it really brought home to me how much the views of addiction, its causes, and the difficulty in resolving it are just not shifting enough. This friend made a remark…

37 Bible Verses on Judging
“It is very easy to be confused when you hear that Christians are to “judge not” but also to discern and judge what is truth. Jesus tells us to look at our own sin before judging someone else. The Bible tells us we are to confront others’ sins with truth and love with respect. Read these Bible verses for more specific truths when it comes to the Christian life and what it means to not…

Judging Others
You shouldn’t judge others as they have already judged themselves, haven’t you?

Two prayers
“He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and regarded others with contempt:
‘Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax-collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, was praying thus, “God, I thank you that I am not like other people: thieves, rogues, adulterers, or even like this tax-collector. I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all my income.”
But the tax-collector, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and saying: “God, be merciful to me, a sinner!”
I tell you, this man went down to his home justified rather than the other; for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted.’ ”

Judging Others
I judge people by how they treat animals, how they treat the wait staff at restaurants, and what they do with their shopping cart when they are done with it. Seems like a simple test to me. Even with my crappy ankles, I will always take a shopping cart back inside. Unless you are a jerk, I’m grateful to the wait staff and am an appreciative tipper. Do we even need to ask about dogs and me?

The Art of Judging Others
Albert Einstein once wisely remarked, “If you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” This profound statement encapsulates the essence of the human tendency to judge others based on criteria that may not accurately reflect their true nature and capabilities. In a world where diversity is celebrated, it becomes imperative to reassess…

Judging? What Does The Bible Say About Judging Other People?
Is Judging Other People A Sin? “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.“ Jesus Refused To Cast a Stone At the Woman Caught In Adultery. Jesus Did Not Judge Her! Let’s Look at this, The Woman Caught in the act of Adultery: John 10:1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. 2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he…
