Songfic Tag Game
Rules: Pick a song to accompany each of your fics or as many as you like. This might be the fic's inspiration or just pure vibes that you'd like to share with readers. Tag as many people as fics you feature (or do as you please!)
I was tagged by the lovely @shivunin! I really enjoyed this one. Tagging @bitchesofostwick @isayashai @zevrn @creaking-skull @ghostwise @shahrazade but as always, there is absolutely zero pressure.
I have 34 fics posted in total over on my AO3 page, so I'm not going to do all of them, but I will be doing more recent ones and some of my favorites. I will also say the songs and their connections to the fics are a mix of vibes and lyrics.
Not My Type: Darmas Pollaran, inveterate womanizer and expert sabacc player, is not Corso's favorite person--especially when it comes to his attitude towards a certain Smuggler Captain. (SWTOR, rated T, 1.5k)
Paper Planes by M.I.A.
What a Smuggler Deserves: Corso can't stand Taris, and that bottle of liquor isn't going to drink itself. If only he were better at not spilling his feelings the moment he's tipsy. (SWTOR, rated G, 1.7k)
Mona Lisa by Dominic Fike
Wayward Jedi: Talira Virali has been hiding on Nar Shaddaa since the Purge, but ten years is a long time to stay hidden, and time is about to be up, thanks to a certain Bracca scrapper turned Jedi. (J:FO, rated T, 1k)
Dear Dictator by Saint Motel
Remembered: Cal asks Lira why they still have their padawan braid, after all these years. The answer is complicated. (J:FO, rated T, 1.4k)
The War by SYML
Salving Touch: After Mizora's punishment, Wyll cannot sleep. Luckily enough, neither can Dearbhla. (BG3, rated G, 1.2k)
Final Days by Ben Thornewill
Frail Hope: A discovery on the road to the Harpers' ambush shakes Dearbhla. (BG3, rated T, 1.3k)
Small Hands by Radical Face
Waterproof: Things do not go as planned during Duke Ravengard's rescue mission. (BG3, rated T, 1.8k)
Cover Me in Roses by Holden Laurence
Lipstick: Iona Shepard wears lipstick, and it's an oh-so familiar shade of red. (ME, rated T, 1.3k)
Weights & Measures by Dry the River
What to Do: While Iona recovers, Garrus waits. (ME, rated G, 1k)
Siúil, a Rún by Clannad
Dancing Beneath the Holly Trees: Narmeleth likes to tease her lover. Lathuilas likes to watch her dance. (LOTRO, rated G, 0.5k)
Rilke Song by aeseaes
Whither Thou Goest: Lathuilas is bound to Narmeleth, by love and by promise, but even she cannot follow her into the west. (LOTRO, rated T, 0.8k)
Tears of Nimrodel by Chance Thomas
The Lions of House Cousland: As cousins, the future of House Cousland rests upon Talvinder and Savreen. Now, with their family and their home in ashes, they must fight both the Darkspawn and their grief in order to find that which they once thought a certainty: a future. (DA:O, rated M, 250k)
Masters of War by Judy Collins
Love Me Sweet: Varric wants Elodie. He wants them unreservedly, unashamedly, and unremittingly. (DA:2, rated E, 2.6k)
Love Me Tender by Elvis Presley
Elfroot and Tears: Both Cullen and La'ara are afraid of what the Arbor Wilds hold for them. (DA:I, rated T, 1.5k)
Bronwyn and Arondir by Bear McCreary
The Calling: Alistair may be king, but he is still a Grey Warden. And when the others begin to hear the Calling, he does too. (DA:O and DA:I, rated T, 1.2k)
Panic Attack by Liza Anne

Olivia Benson: You're reaching here.
Elliot Stabler: And you've got blinders on. I'm the longest relationship you've ever had with a man. You have no idea how bad things can get when a couple goes sour.
Olivia Benson: And eight years in this unit tells me that I don't need to be married to know when an abusive man is escalating.

Tagged by @pandora15 (just saw your review when I started making this post, thank you so much <3 <3)
Most of my mutuals have done this already, so I’m not sure if any of these tagged people have either but tagging @ithiliel-the-french-tolkiendil, @qwertyuiop678, @elfpen
Name ten songs you’re obsessed with:
Singularity, Kim Taehyung (BTS) - This entire video is art. I can’t. It’s not even a MAIN SONG. It’s a tone-setting trailer-song for the group’s comeback.
Darling, NEEDTOBREATHE - Adorable. It uses silence so well, too.
Just Around the Riverbend, Judy Kuhn (Pocahontas) - The romantic in me loves this - because it’s not just about arranged marriage, but really about adventure, and imagining and hoping for something around the corner, something that so many people attribute to childhood alone. It really shouldn’t be.
Man in a Movie, Day6 - I will maintain that this is the best young band in Korean music. There’s such a dreamlike, yearning energy to this. Day6 is one of those rare bands where you’ll like almost every song they’ve ever released.
Shenandoah, Peter Hollens - My favourite a capella song. Speaking of which, also lots of yearning to this. I’m starting to see a pattern.
Snow, Zion.T - heartrendingly smooth.
The Ninth Realm, Bear McCreary (God of War) - That bit starting from 0:48 where the brass begins in the silence and then the strings come sweeping in and tumble over each other is too beautiful.
Deliver Us, Ofra Haza, Eden Reigel (Prince of Egypt) - My favourite animated movie, and favourite opening sequence of any movie ever. There’s so much desperation and hope and beauty and power in this one song.
Re-Bye, Akdong Musician - This is the most talented brother-sister duo in the music industry. Listen to their whole discography. You won’t regret it.
Mountain Pt.1, NEEDTOBREATHE - I chose this as the first song in the playlist for The Silent Song because it’s got that warlike but quiet sound. It’s too bad they only play part 2 in concerts; I would have loved to hear it in its entirety. There’s some pretty decent concert recordings floating around on youtube, though.

Looking back: Best film/TV scores of 2019
Top 10 film/TV scores of 2019: Mainstream scores have their place (and deserve it), but enough hidden gems found their way onto the list this year. Most of them appear on YouTube, so I encourage you to check them out, though Masukaredo Hoteru is sadly harder to find.
1. Star Wars: Episode IX: Rise of Skywalker (Williams)
2. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (Powell)
3. The Mandalorian, Season 1 (Göransson)
4. Masukaredo Hoteru (Sato)
5. Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Season 1 (Chait)
6. Godzilla: King of the Monsters (McCreary)
7. Sordo: The Silent War (Jara)
8. 1917 (Newman)
9. Shazam! (Wallfisch)
10. Joker (Guðnadóttir)
Best single track of the year: "Furies in Love" from How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.
Honourable mentions to Yesterday (several moving Beatles covers), Lego Movie 2 (for the meta-hilarity that is The Catchy Song), and Judy for Renée Zellweger‘s great covers of Judy Garland classics.

Julie & Julia (2009)
Biography, Drama, Romance |
Julie & Julia is a American comedy-drama film written and directed by Nora Ephron starring Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Stanley Tucci, and Chris Messina. The film contrasts the life of chef Julia Child in the early years of her culinary career with the life of young New Yorker Julie Powell, who aspires to cook all 524 recipes in Child’s cookbook in 365 days, a challenge she described on her popular blog that made her a published author.
Ephron’s screenplay is based on two books: My Life in France, Child’s autobiography written with Alex Prud’homme, and a memoir by Powell, Julie & Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen. Both of these books were written and published between 2004 and 2006.
Julia Child – 1950s
In the 1950s, Julia Child, an enthusiastic and unabashed woman, moves to Paris with her diplomat husband, Paul Child. She attends Le Cordon Bleu to learn French cooking, and is initially met with skepticism as she is the only woman in the class. Madame Elizabeth Brassart, the proprietress of the school and Child clash. She is undaunted however, and begins collaborating on a book about French cooking for American housewives with Simone Beck and Louisette Bertholle.
Julie Powell – 2002
In 2002, Julie Powell is a young writer with an unpleasant job at the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation’s call center, where she answers telephone calls from victims of the September 11 attacks and members of the general public complaining about the LMDC’s controversial plans for rebuilding the World Trade Center. She is discontented with this, and is disheartened at watching her acquaintances succeed in their own professions. She is happily married to Eric Powell, a writer for a magazine.
Director: Nora Ephron
Writers: Nora Ephron (screenplay), Julie Powell (book), Julia Child (book), Alex Prud’homme (book)
Stars: Amy Adams, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, Chris Messina, Linda Emond, Helen Carey, Mary Lynn Rajskub
