Sonic Underground Reprise: Hedgehog Family Tree Hedge

Here- the parents, the aunts, the uncles, the grandpa and grandma's and even some cousins.

Now, are most of these characters relevant to the main plot? No. But if you have followed me for any amount of time you should know of my love of expanding character's family trees.

Parlouzer Lore (paternal side)

Charlotte was a sailor who split her time exploring and fishing with her crew

she may or may not have been a pirate

Maurice was a skilled carpenter who worked from his home workshop in Port Mobius

he was just a humble, if a bit on the quiet side,

the two met by chance when Charlotte was exploring the area while Maurice was trying to get groceries

instantly charmed with one another, they kept in touch and she made it a point to always come back to see him every chance she could

after about 5 years of this she proposed to him and the two were married the next day

Chuck was born shortly after (honeymoon baby)

he mostly stayed on the mainland with his father while Charlotte continued working on the high seas

Julius was born when Charles was 12, and Pauline Pauli when he was 19

Chuck left for college early at 16, so he wasn’t particularly close with his younger brothers until they were practically adults

Jules ran away when he was 13 to join the circus, completely cutting off contact for nearly 5 years

At 17, he and several other members of the circus (including Argus) were arrested in Casino City after being framed for treason by a rival performance troupe. Due to their age however, the two were given an alternative to jail time: enlistment, which they begrudgingly accepted (this was HIGHLY illegal btw, as both were underage and therefore not qualified to be enlisted)

around 3 years into service, Chuck got wind of the bullshit charges placed on his brother and threatened to raise hell if the two were not brought back home immediately

Jules and Argus were then hired as a part of the Royal guard where they were charged initially with guarding King Max’s son, Crown Prince Nigel

Pauli avoided trouble growing up, having taken more after his father than his lovely, impulsive older brothers

Ihe developed a passion for piloting and decided to start his own delivery business, which would be how he would meet his future wife Bernie

Bernie

Nadim Lore

ditch the royal family part and exchange it for a powerful magic fam

Hatshe is the matriarch of a powerful magic guild, the Rising Sun, though she has retired from any official position

the Rising Sun was formed by Aman-Rapi long ago

Hatshe met Olgilvie when traveling through the Kingdom of Mercia when the then King requested the aid of the Rising Sun’s strangest magician (they had meant to request “strongest” but their had been a slight typo, luckily for them Hatshe was both)

Bastard son of a a duke, Olgilvie was knight renound for his skills with a blade as well as the strings

he was assigned to aide Hatshe in her assignment

the two did not get along initially, as both were headstrong individuals who had their own way of doing things, but eventually became friends, and later lovers

He ran off after her once her assignment had been completed and continued courting her back home

Layla is Aleena’s older sister, as well as the current leader of the Rising Sun

Though she may appear calm, collected, and regal, outside of official appearances she is a very much a dork who is not above a little mischief

she met Terios when the were children during the family’s travels

more specifically, she found his half dead body lie partway out of a river bank

he was taken in to the guild, where he showed strong promise in healing magic

childhood friends-> lovers, slowburn 160k words basically

everyone knew that they liked eachother except themselves

despite some initial mishaps, the guild has been thriving under her leadership

despite Robotnik’s efforts, their guild halls have remained hidden to him, as well as serving a safe havens for those trying to escape his reign

they work loosely with the Resistance, though Layla leaves it up to the individuals to come forwards and offer aid

This might be the Hispanic in me showing, but one of my headcanons about Sonic’s bio family is essentially, “all of your possible parents are now a huge extended family, and no one knows which one of them you spawned from”

Hear me out.

This works best if Jules, Aleena, and Paulie are siblings. Chuck’s their eldest brother, while Brenda and Bernadette married in—but they’re all very close. Brenda and Aleena had their kids at about the same time (I’m talking days, if not hours, apart), and while Brenda only had one, Aleena shocked the family with three.

(Alternatively, Aleena only had two, and one of them was born to Bernadette—again, around the same time. That’s largely irrelevant, though.)

So naturally, you’ve got a very confused mom getting wheeled to the nursery to see her babies, like:

“I thought you said there were only three.”

A hapless nurse, or possibly Jules: “…Yes?”

Aleena, shaking: “Then why are there four of them???”

Whoever their parents are, Tania grows up very, very close with Sonic, Manic, and Sonia. They’re effectively siblings despite being born cousins. Naturally, everyone in the family leads very busy lives—and whether you imagine them in a royal household, in the midst of a rebellion, or as commoners in peacetime, that doesn’t matter much either. They’re family, they have each other—which means that if one of them has to to work a particular night, someone else is babysitting their kids that night. And they all do it to each other, so it evens out.

(Except for Chuck. Chuck has no kids of his own. He insists he get to help because he loves his nieces, nephews, and siblings, but Chuck will get paid for babysitting.)

They’re not alone, either. Longclaw is functionally the matriarch/cryptid of the family—no one knows for sure how old she is or how she’s related to them, but they do know she’s lived through two wars, two virus outbreaks, and despite her kind demeanor, has epic tales of the time she fought Black Doom with a spear. Maddie was once friends with somebody’s cousin, and while that cousin is long gone, she and Tom are now too close to the family to leave, and always organize the family potlucks because no one else wants to. And Sonic and Sonia’s adoptive parents from Underground—haven’t thought about them long enough to have names for them yet—are here too. They’re aunts and uncles who are slightly more well off than the rest of the family, so if there’s ever financial trouble, and they catch wind of it, they’ll always race to the struggling one’s doorstep with a warm meal and a modest gift of money, hidden in a couch cushion.

The point is, they’re close. They rely on each other a lot. Somebody would always be available to take the kids. The kids would need not look very far to find loving arms to hold them, or teach them about the world, or patch up a scraped knee or two. Or eight.

And the moment Sonic brings home Tails?

Well, they’re already shuffling four kids between them. What’s a fifth, in the midst of all this chaos?

Sonic Underground Reprise: Sir Julius Hedgehog

Aleena's late husband and “precious Jewel”

Notes (too many thoughts on the dead(?) hog)

terrible at directions- he could get lost in an overly large sweater

laid back, it takes a lot to get him riled up

middle child (Chuck being the oldest with Paulie being the youngest, with roughly 6 years between each of them)

grew up greatly admiring his older brother and Chuck moving out for college played in part to him running away

he ran away from home to join the circus when he was 13

learned a lot of weird skills as a result: sleight of hand, animal taming, knife throwing, knife dodging, sword swallowing, aerial silk as and acrobatics just to name a few

he stayed with them until he as 17 when the troupe was wrongfully arrested and he was forcibly enlisted into the army for 3 years before Chuck managed to bail him out and get him and his buddy a new job with the Royal guard

met Aleena when he crashed full speed into a fountain testing a "borrowed" hoverboard model from Chuck's lab with Argus, making her laugh

instantly smitten, he made it a personally mission of his to make her laugh as much as possible

he put his clowning to good use

was captured during the raid of Mobotropolis distracting Robotnik’s troupes away from his fleeing family

was the first mobian to be Robotocized

the event was greatly publicized so that the public knew what painful fate awaited them should they dare to defy him

Robian!Jules is prone to malfunctions to due lack of maintainence

he is used to track/hunt down Aleena

Family portraits

So Sonic family tree lore has been swimming around my head to point that it’s gone from headcannons to its own somewhat au that ties in Sonic’s many parents and siblings

I was gonna draw a portrait of Tails & Sonic as well as Sonic, Shadow, Maria, & Charles but I didn’t like how they looked so yeah

Might attempt to draw them again later idk

I’m very normal about the sonic fandom wdym

🚨GIANT AU LORE PARAGRAPH WARNING🚨

So basically, Jules had a fling with Aleena when they were in their 20s, but Aleena’s parents forbid them from marrying because Jules was not of royal heritage like Aleena was. However, Aleena’s parents never properly reinforced them to separate until Aleena found out that she was pregnant and Jules was banished from the kingdom. Eventually, the triplets are born with Sonic being the spitting image of Jules with Aleena’s green eyes. (As for why Manic is green and Sonia is pink, I’ll just say it runs in Aleena’s family which is why Aleena’s parents are the color they are in the family tree.) Since Charles, Jules’s older brother, still lives within the kingdom, Aleena asks him to help her in raising the triplets which Charles readily accepts. (Robotnik never steals the kingdom from Aleena here so Aleena never gives up her kids.) Charles is the one who gives her the idea to give Sonic his birth name Olgilvie Maurice, named after both of Sonic’s grandfathers. Charles and Aleena co-parent the triplets, Olgilvie spending more time with his ‘Uncle Chuck’ than his siblings. The three siblings find out that they all had a love for music so Aleena crafts them those medallion necklaces. (They don’t have magic powers like they do in Sonic Underground.) But unlike his siblings, Olgilvie is born with an unusually high amount of chaos energy which gifts him the ability to run at super sonic speeds. When he turns 10 years old, he decides he wants to go off and see the world. His family disapproves so Olgilvie tries to run off, but Charles catches him. Charles doesn’t want Olgilvie to leave, but knows he can’t stop him so Charles gives Olgilvie his plane. From then on, Olgilvie introduces himself as his nickname Sonic to anyone he meets. Sonic then stumbles upon a fox kit that he takes under his wing as his adoptive little brother. All of Sonic’s cannon game story lines stay the same. At some point between adventures, Sonic reunites with Jules and Charles. In all that time separated, Jules had fell in love and married Bernadette (he has a thing for purple hedgehogs I guess lmao), essentially making her Sonic’s stepmother. (Jules never gets robotized here.) Jules never gets to meet Sonia or Manic. Continuing the family tree, Sonic falls in love with Shadow and they have kids with their combined high amount of chaos energy. Their first born daughter is named Maria in memory of Shadow’s adopted sister and their second born son is named Charles after Sonic’s uncle.
