I have a question? Who thinks Julian is canonically demisexual? Now I only ask because I don’t personally see it. Would I doubt it? No not it the least. As Cassie already kinda said that he is? Yes, so this question might be completely mute. But like I said I don’t see it. Now kit I kinda understand because he’s shown little interest in everyone physically except clary that one time he called her beautiful. But Julian hasn’t had the chance to show interest in anyone but Emma. He’s been around her his entire life and the only other women in his life were his sisters and Dyana and she’s more like a cool aunt or older sister. Either way he’s still awesome and one of my favourites.

Demisexuality and Julian Blackthorn

Julian repeatedly mentions throughout the series that he's never had feelings for/desired anyone but Emma. I don't know if Cassandra Clare meant to write him as demi (possible, since she already has ace rep with Raphael Santiago) or if she just meant to really lean into the "I'll never love anyone but you" star-crossed lovers thing Emma and Julian have going on, but my reading of Julian is that he's demisexual.

I just re-read the entire series and there were multiple quotes that made me think this, but I didn't write them down as I read. So here are the ones I could find quickly, but there are more:

"'You really think I'm going to fall in love with someone else?' Julian demanded. 'You think I get to do that? I'm not you, I don't get to fall in love every week with someone different. I wish it wasn't you, Emma, but it is, it'll always be you...'" - LoS page 522

"He had never desired anyone before Emma, and never anyone since. There had been times when he was younger that it had puzzled him -- he was a teenager, he was supposed to be full of inchoate longings and wanting and yearnings, wasn't he? But he never wanted anyone, never fantasized or dreamed or longed at all." - LoS page 614

“It was strange to think of desire as divorced from feeling: He had never desired anyone he hadn’t already loved. Never desired anyone but Emma.” -QoAaD page 580

- The main 4 from Scooby Doo franchise - Again, very little canon basis but I do love the idea of them as a badass polycule!

- Julian Blackthorn x Emma Carstairs from The Shadowhunter Chronicles/The Dark Artifices - Julian is demisexual but it’s not explicitly referenced in canon, and the author seems to think demisexual = only ever in love with one person/falls for their best friend. I’m demi and that’s just not good rep, sorry, although admittedly they are very badass.

- Vegas x Pete from Kinnporsche - A pretty twisted enemies to lovers situation and don’t really meet the criteria of a ‘battle couple’. They may become one post-canon, but in the show itself spend 95% of the time as enemies.

- Hisoka x Illumi from Hunter x Hunter - While they do meet the criteria of a ‘battle couple’ and are sorta-canon, Hisoka is heavily implied to be a child predator and is creepy as hell overall. Sorry, they won’t be included.

- Monkey D. Luffy x Roronoa Zero from One Piece - Again, canon basis issue.

-  Aoba x Koujaku from Dramatical Murder - this franchise is so uncomfortable and problematic on every level imaginable. Just no.

- Blue x Cyan from Overly Sarcastic Productions - real actual people.

- Miles Morales x Gwen Stacy from Spiderverse/Marvel - Admittedly I’m not familiar with the comics but neither of them seems to be canonically queer. Let me know if I’m wrong.

- Steve x Bucky from the MCU/Captain America movies - accidental subtext or queerbait, depending on your point of view. I bet on the first one, these movies were written by a bunch of the most cishet men in existence.

Love bisexual Percy, but that doesn’t add up in my mind. Before the riot starts, I still think he is a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

I think that it make sense for Percy to be Demisexual. Plus the fact Demisexual Demigod is so fun to say.

Percy confused asking Apollo why he is less aesthetically pleasing then normal at the beginning of The Trails of Apollo. Thinking more about aesthetic more than attraction.

Percy’s first noticing Annabeth’s ‘princess’ curls. Then when play capture the flag ‘warrior’ gets added to that. All comments on the ‘Warrior Princess’ aesthetic and becoming her friend.

Even when they are in a relationship Percy tends to focus on affection, hugs and kisses and just being with her. When he thinks about the future, he always thinks about the domestic side.

To add on this theory let’s talk about Aphrodite. She changes to match the other person’s description of beautiful. For everyone else she constantly changes even if it is minorly. But her as Annabeth (awwww) and an actress he had a crush on. Crushing on a fictional character is normal, we feel like we know them.

Girls get more Ace representation with the Hunters of Artemis. The first male ace that to mind is Raphael Santiago (Mean but funny). The Demisexual male being Julian Blackthorn. Julian is a good example but we don’t see him growing into him as much as we see him go from child to Father of four in one traumatizing war.

I just feel like it fits him.

One thing I love so much about the Blackthorn siblings is that they're almost all queer. Like most of them are queer. Imagine being Andrew Blackthorn for a second: you have your first two children by a faerie woman and they both turn out bisexual. You're like wow huh, what are the odds, altho since pretty much all faeries are bisexual you're like okay that makes sense. But then you have your next child by another Shadowhunter and THIS child turns out to be demisexual, and now you have THREE KIDS and they're ALL LGBTQ+. And THEN your Shadowhunter wife gets pregnant again and you're like wow this time for sure I might have a straight child, only 25% of ppl are queer anyway and I already have 3 queer kids. But then you get TWINS and while one of them is straight THE OTHER ONE IS STILL GAY!!!! (And then the straight twin anyways DIES?!?!?!) Like I know that Andrew Blackthorn had Dru (probably straight altho she still has lesbian vibes?!?!) and Tavvy (we don't know his sexuality yet bc he's still a literal whole child) after that, but seriously this man had his first five children be either some kind of queer or a dead straight and then his next child is finally a straight person who lives?! And she still has lesbian vibes?!?! Like imagine having four whole LGBTQ+ siblings I would be crying of joy I love the Blackthorns so much.
