After Julie visits the Pattersons a second time she mentions that they should stop by to look at the studio where Sunset Curve practiced, it was a great idea at the time.
Julie, Alex and Luke are mentally preparing for Luke's parents to show up. When Reggie suddenly poofs in, looking far more panicked than ever before.
"Luke's parents are here, Ray made them drinks, he's such a gentleman. Oh, right, they were talking about Sunset Curve - very cool to hear them talking about us by the way. That's not why I'm here though, why am I here? OH RIGHT! Ray is kind of talking to them about Julie and The Phantoms and he said he's going to show them a video..."
So, whilst Julie makes a run for the house, the boys get a headstart just as Ray has loaded a video of their Edge of Great performance. Alex keeps hitting the space bar to pause the video, battling with Ray who keeps trying to get the video to play. Luke is pacing the room, a little bit panicked that his parents might find out about his presence. Meanwhile, Reggie is having a one-sided conversation with Ray about how he's a better person than this.
Julie gets in and lies about the internet being down, but Ray just says "no worries, I have the video saved" Julie just closes the laptop and laughs nervously about how they don't need to see it, they're here to see their son's old studio after all. Luckily it works, and as she leads the Pattersons away, Ray is just left a little bit dumbfounded about it all.
Later, they realise that they have no way of stopping the Pattersons searching Julie and The Phantoms on their own accord, they just have to hope they won't.

still suffering from bad motorcity brainrot so my brain conjured up a funny ass scenario where the gang finally learns more about texas' family.
well, more than just "texas has a real big family"
based off of chris p's confirmation that texas was going to have cerebral parents who are the exact opposite of him
Chuck shuffles in on socked feet to the pile of Burners casually lounging in their main living room area and chatting.
Mike is of course the first one to interrupt the conversation and greet him, noticing all the screens his best friend had pulled up. Then, when a semi-preoccupied Chuck didnt immediately answer back, Mike sat up and leaned his elbows on his knees.
"Hey, Chuckles. I said good morning!"
Chuck looked up suddenly, as if just realizing where he was.
"O-OH yeah hey guys, morning ahaha..." Chuck ran a nervous hand through his hair, revealing a furrowed brow that Mike immediately noticed.
"What's with all the screens so early in the day? You're usually halfway through breakfast before pulling one of those up," Mike chided jokingly.
"Uh so, like, late last night--"
"Morning. you mean early in the morning," Mike grinned, and then exclaimed when Chuck reached for a pillow to toss at his face.
"Last night..." Chuck continued, "I noticed something going on with the east gate. It's weird, the battery we found should have been full enough to last us 'til the end of the year but uh... yeah it's totally drained now, guys." By now, Chuck was taking a seat next to Mike and letting his friend lean into his space to study the screens. "And I was lookin' at the new motion sensors we installed recently and it seems like it drained fast right after someone... or something moved near it a couple nights ago."
"Yeah but if someone's trying to siphon off battery power from the gates, that could be a real big problem in the future," Dutch put in.
Julie waggled her head, considering Chuck's words. "Could be a lot of things, honestly. That fusion battery wasn't really meant to last long anyways, it was only a temporary fix at the time."
Texas kicked his legs in the air from where he laid on a beanbag at everyone's feet. "Wait, the eastern gate? Isn't that gate the one that was havin' problems that one time Kane busted in like about a year ago?" He crunched on some mystery substance in a plastic container.
Most likely something from Jacob's kitchen.
Mike laughed. "The very same, buddy."
"Tch'aaww that gate's lame. It keeps breakin' all the time! I wouldn't be surprised if it's just old and basically turning into total junk."
Julie turned to Mike and Dutch. "Y'know, he might be right--"
"Duh, Texas is always right!"
"...That gate really does have some history. It was the first offically maintained entrance into Motorcity years ago when Deluxe was first being built. I'm pretty sure Kane abandoned it on purpose after our crazy battle with those Ultra Golems."
Mike shook his head. "So he most likely cut the power from that gate then, huh. Makes sense why the battery's almost dead! That's a lot of heavy lifting for only one battery."
Chuck stopped typing on his screens for a second. "Why didn't we just scavenge for a newer battery after you beat that big robot Kane sent in? We secured that gate after, didnt we?"
Dutch and Julie smirked at each other.
"Someone might've gotten a bit distracted by an opportunity that ended up bein' a little too good to be true," Dutch elbowed Mike.
Mike guffawed and immediately tried to downplay the mistake. "Aw man, I mean yeah-- that, aaannd also we got that distress call from Doc Hudson not long after, too... so I mean--"
"Mmnn yeah, gotcha." Chuck deadpanned, returning back to triple-checking his maps and motion sensor logs.
"Anyways," Texas cuts in, "that gate's old an' dusty. It totally needs an overhaul, Texas-style. Hoo-WAH!!" He kicks his legs in the air in a flurry and uses the hand not holding his container to do a quick karate chop.
Everyone looks at him.
"Texas," Dutch starts patiently, "we're not construction workers, man. That's up to the Motorcity council to decide when the whole thing gets fixed now. I'm pretty sure they'd know about the power being cut off by now."
"Yeah, they should since I just pinged one of the council members about it too," Chuck piped up.
Texas shakes his head like a father explaining something to a child who isn't understanding what he's saying at all. "Yeah duh I know, guys, I'm not dumb!"
Dutch bites back a mean retort. Julie smirks again behind a carefully placed hand.
"I could just go to my mom and tell her everything! Then she can just send her construction worker dudes to tear down the thing and like, I dunno, hook it up to our own power supply or whatever. No effort on our part!" He flexes an arm casually.
A pause.
Mike was the first to speak up. "Wait, what? Your mom?"
"Uh, yeah, you guys didnt know my mom's head of the council?"
Dutch does a double take. "Head of the council?!"
"Yeah, Stretch. Head of the Motorcity council! She's been leadin' it since I was like a tiny Texas baby. She just keeps gettin' re-elected, heh. Makes sense since she's cleaned up and expanded a lot of stuff, I guess."
"...And she gave birth to you?!"
Texas, as usual, lets the insult sail right over his head. "I know right? Both my parents are totally lame and boring. Not like Texas, hwa-CHAA!! They don't know anything about martial arts movies, sweet Muay Thai kicks or Texasifyin' stuff! They just wear boring suits and go to like a million meetings! My dad's not like in city council or whatever but he's a uh... a... what's-it-called. An archic-tech. He doesn't even build the stupid buildings and junk, he just designs 'em."
Mike elbowed Dutch back, hissing "dude!" under his breath. Chuck snorted.
Everyone stares for a couple of seconds, Dutch rubbing his chin in disbelief.
"Wait, your dad's an architect?" Chuck asks incredulously.
Texas shrugs and stuffs his mouth with the mystery food. "Yeah? I thought I told you guys all about this!"
Mike leans forward and asks Texas directly, "does your dad only design buildings? Or does he help your mom with the city planning too?"
Texas munches for a few seconds before answering. "Mnnyeah, he's like... he plans and draws pretty much everything in Motorcity, like where the hotels and shops and stuff can go. He designed the whole downtown area I think. Obviously they're not done fixin' up the place, but the public bathhouse was his idea, so."
"He's an urban planner, Texas! Wow, not just an architect either, he does both!" Julie admires out loud.
Dutch leans back on the couch dramatically and sighs. "The bathhouse, oh damn."
Everyone took a quick second to reminisce about their trip to the bathhouse with fond smiles. It was a gorgeous Greek-inspired building as tall and beautiful as it was comforting, a recent addition to the bustle of downtown Motorcity. It had sleek marble walls, cozy alcoves for private meetups, grand staircases seemingly everywhere and polished golden accents gleaming in every corner.
The building was split into two sections with a giant-- and equally beautiful-- indoor garden separating the halves, and a courtyard with a net in the middle stationed out back for friendly games of volleyball or tennis. The bath itself sat like a reigning king in the front, right past the fancy lobby and locker rooms. In the back half, the indoor pool stayed open for swimming only in the summer. During the cold winter months the pool was frozen and turned into a makeshift ice skating rink.
Both pool and bath were massive and alive day after day with Motorcitizens relaxing after a hard day's work, meeting up with friends, or just taking the kids out to a fun day of swimming.
It was everyone's favorite spot to relax and hang out during chilly days thanks to the saunas as well.
Motorcity's gang members have officially sectioned the bathhouse and the immediate area off as a neutral zone, strictly banning violence and disputes from there. That decision was introduced by Julie and quickly adopted after everyone figured it'd be hard to tell which member was from which gang when they were all naked.
Knowing that Texas' father-- of all people-- was the man most likely responsible for that slice of heaven in an otherwise grimy and dark city was... well, it was weird.
"So," Chuck said, scratching his head, "your dad designs things and your mom orders the funds around. For, like, the whole city."
"Yyyup." Texas answers.
"Sooo... what does the rest of your family do?"
Texas takes a minute to think. "My grandma owns a shop downtown. All my sisters are out studying with people, doin' apprenticeships n' stuff. They mostly like to build and program stuff, one of them's over at the Cablers' right now. Oh yeah, my oldest sister is in a band! She's the lead guitarist and everything! She's badass, like Texas."
Dutch nods slowly, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Uh huh. Mhm. This idiot's family is super smart and accomplished. Now I've seen everything."
Mike huffs out a laugh. "Wow, Tex. That's uhm... yeah, that's great! Think we can shoot your parents a quick message and maybe pass along some ideas?"
"I've got tons of ideas for a more efficient electrical wiring system!! With better security in place too! And a failsafe just in case!" Chuck blurts out. He then realizes his excitement and leans back self-consciously. "AHA-- ahem, that is if they're uh, if they're, y'know-- if it's not too much to impose on them, of course!"
Mike smiles warmly at Chuck and turns back to Texas. "No, I think they'd probably love the help, right Tex?"
Texas guffaws, spewing a few crumbs everywhere. "Tchyyyeaah!! Texas' parents are always so dang busy all the time like... ugh. Yeah, Skinny over here would probably be their favorite guy for a while just for takin' on some o' the work."
Chuck grins and opens up a new screen with some schematics, and gets right to work.

I’d Tell You I Love You, but Then I’d Have to Kill You by kybee1497
Julie Molina, 3rd generation legacy and senior at the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women.
Luke Patterson, prodigy of the Blackthorne Institue for Boys.
The two first met last year during their spring final exam. He flirted. She used him. They both lied. But Luke cheated and Julie hasn’t forgiven it, she definitely hasn’t forgotten, and she can’t quite shake the blow to her confidence the encounter left.
But what was supposed to be a one off, turns out to be a lot more when Blackthorne joins Gallagher Academy for the year and suddenly Luke is everywhere. He’s cocky, charming, and drives her crazy but the look in his eyes when she aces a test or hands him is ass in gym sends butterflies fluttering through her stomach.
Which is stupid because Julie has more important things to worry about. Like passing her classes and getting through her final year. Like why her mothers been acting so weird, stress lining her eyes. Like why exactly the Blackthorne boys are here this year and what exactly happened to Headmaster Covington. Like what she’s going to do after graduation… if they even get there, because the mystery of Blackthorne is far more dangerous than they could have ever guessed.
💜💜💜💜
It’s finally here!!! Tagging anyone I’ve yelled about this au with over the last 2 ish years (also my memory is terrible so I’m so sorry if I leave someone out) @sunsetcurbed @angelofarts @fandomscraziness22 @thatbitchmabel @willexmagic @itsthebooks @williexmercer

You're every song I ever sing
Every night the world is given dreams that lead you to your soulmate-and sometimes, you might just have more than one.
This is my entry for the @jatpfebfanfest and it is a gift to the ever lovely @ri-jane They asked for PeterPatterLina and soulmates, so you know I jumped right on it! I really hope you enjoy this fic hun!
No one knows when the dreams started-they had been a part of life for all of recorded human history. It wasn’t until later that people realized they lead you to your soulmate, and even then not everyone adhered to that belief. There were no hard and fast rules that said you had to be with your soulmate, or what type of mate they were. So the populace were left to their own devices, even as groups fought on every side of the debate in regards to the dreams.
Raymond Molina dreamt of roses falling into his arms. He’d never been a big fan of the flowers, but there they were, bright crimson and beautiful every time he fell asleep. It wasn’t until he was in his twenties that the dreams made any sense-he was shooting a concert, and his flash blinded the singer on stage. She fell right into his arms, smiling up at him.
“I’m Rose.”

“ but you're here. so stay. “ + “ you know me better than anyone. you always have. “
I could have given you about a hundred more of these because they're so good and the ✨ vibes ✨ but let's go with these two. 🥰
A million years later I am here to (hopefully) deliver the ✨ vibes ✨ 😂
I love these two prompts paired together because there are so many directions one could take them. In the end, I settled for playing around with the idea of Julie and her "boundaries," and came up with a fluffy little missing scene that I envision taking place after The Orpheum. Hope you like it, friend! 💕
A Breach of Boundaries
Pairing: Luke/Julie | Word Count: 1,273 | Rating: G
SUMMARY: “I don’t remember saying I wanted you to leave,” Julie says after a moment.
“I thought it was implied,” Luke replies. “Julie rule number one: ‘boundaries.’ Julie rule number two: ‘stay out of my room.’”
“And here I was thinking you were all about smashing the rules,” she teases.
“I was— I am. But those rules are important to you…and you’re important to me.”
Fic under the cut OR read it on AO3!
Julie knows she should be sleeping. Her bones are practically aching for some much needed rest after one of the longest days she’s ever experienced, and she knows she’ll hate herself a little in the morning if she doesn’t go to bed soon.
The adrenaline of knowing she’d somehow managed to save Luke, Alex, and Reggie had been enough to carry her through the long talk she’d promised to have with Carlos after they’d gotten back from The Orpheum. But that sudden burst of energy had run out about halfway through her little brother’s list of burning questions about the guys and their ghost status. She’d cut Carlos’ interrogation short after that, and while he’d seemed disappointed, his mood had instantly lifted when Julie had not only promised to answer more questions later, but had also promised she’d come and watch him play at his baseball tournament tomorrow.
Carlos had been all too willing to let her retreat to her own bedroom after that. But neither her current exhaustion nor the promise of an early day ahead seem to be enough to lull her to sleep. Not when what Julie really wants to do is to sneak past her dad in the living room and head back down to the studio so she can spend some more time with her newly solid bandmates. Even as she thinks it, she recognizes the thought for the lie it is. Because the truth of the matter is, there’s really only one person she’d been hoping to spend more time with tonight, and he might just be the reason she risks sneaking back out against her better judgement.
It’s Luke who ends up taking the decision to stay or go right out of her hands when he materializes in her bedroom. Julie doesn’t startle like she normally does whenever he poofs in unannounced— too wonderstruck this time over the way Luke had simply appeared in front of her like she’d willed him there herself.
“Boundaries, I know,” Luke says, getting ahead of her. “I just…”
He sighs, trailing off as though searching for the right words. It doesn’t really matter though because Julie doesn’t need him to elaborate. She already knows. Knows because she knows Luke better than anyone. And also because she needs it too. Had needed him near even before he’d poofed up into her bedroom. Because the feeble few moments they’d spent with their hands exploring the features their eyes had long since memorized just hadn’t felt like enough.
There was also a small voice in the back of her head that she’d been trying to ignore ever since she’d left the safe and happy bubble of the studio. A voice that had quietly wondered if she’d still be able to feel him in the morning. Or if the magic of whatever had happened after The Orpheum would have worn off by then. It’s a bleak thought to say the least, and being forced to go back to the way things were at this point seems like it would be the cruelest twist of fate. Especially now that Julie knows what it’s like to really feel him. Now that she knows what it’s like for Luke to really feel her.
The idea of never being able to touch him again is almost too much to bear, so she forces herself to push it aside in an effort to make the most of what she knows to be true in that moment. And what she knows to be true then and there is that they can touch each other now.
“You’re right,” she murmurs. “This…definitely counts as a breach of boundaries…”
Luke’s quick to nod in agreement, the corners of his mouth turned down into a solemn expression of understanding. There’s more Julie wants to say but she doesn’t get the chance.
“Do you want me to leave?”
He whispers it when he says it, and despite the fact that Luke doesn’t move from his spot on the floor, Julie knows he would disappear without protest if she asked him to. Fearing he might even poof out before she gives him an answer altogether, she takes a step toward him, and then another until she’s close enough to reach out and touch him.
She lets out a breath she hadn’t even realized she’d been holding when the pads of her fingers make contact with the back of his hand, the corners of her mouth quirking up into an involuntary smile when Luke instantly flips his hand over so he can slide his palm agains hers.
Julie’s expecting it this time. For Luke to be solid. But she still marvels over the sight of her skin pressed against his. But that’s nothing in comparison to the way Luke effortlessly slips his fingers between hers, stitching them together like the spaces between her own were made just for him. It’s a perfect fit. Just like she always knew it would be. Just like they’re a perfect fit for each other in every single way that matters. But Julie hardly gets a moment to revel in the reality of that before Luke slowly brings their joint hands up just so he can brush a kiss across her knuckles.
The barely there feel of his lips is so achingly sweet, Julie’s knees nearly buckle and give out from under her.
“I mean it Julie,” he says, his breath fanning over the same stretch of skin his lips had just touched. “If you want me to go, I will.”
Distantly, she wonders if Luke can hear her heart beating wildly away beneath her ribs. The thought of the traitorous organ betraying the truth of what she feels for him might have caused her embarrassment once. But now? After knowing what it’s like to nearly lose him forever? It’s hard to remember why she ever felt the need to keep that secret at all.
“I don’t remember saying I wanted you to leave,” she says after a moment.
“I thought it was implied,” Luke replies. “Julie rule number one: ‘boundaries.’ Julie rule number two: ‘stay out of my room.’”
“And here I was thinking you were all about smashing the rules,” she teases.
“I was— I am. But those rules are important to you,” he continues. “And you’re important to me.”
It’s not anything she didn’t already know deep down, but hearing Luke say it steals the air straight out of her lungs all the same. It takes Julie a minute to find her voice again after that, but she makes good use of filling up the silence. Carefully, she reaches her free hand up to cup his cheek, reveling in the way Luke’s eyes flutter shut as he leans into her touch.
“They are,” she agrees. “But so are you. And you’re you’re here. So stay.”
Julie doesn’t say forever like she wants to, but it’s implied in the way her voice cracks on the final word. And in an effort to ensure there’s no more room for inaccurate implications, she rises up onto her toes and presses her lips to his.
She draws back nearly as quick as she’d swooped in so she can gauge Luke’s reaction, but he doesn’t let her get far. Instead, he simply loops the hand in his grasp over one shoulder before wrapping both arms around her in an effort to draw her closer. His eyes hold her own steady gaze as he grins adoringly down at her.
“Okay,” he breathes out.
And then, there’s nothing left for Luke to do but lower his lips back down to hers and return the favor.

This Month’s Fic Recs
These are just a few of the fics I’ve enjoyed this month, but there are so many great and fics out there by very talented writers within this fandom! I’ve avoided repeating some of the series I highlighted last month, but I still love those too. Like last time, some of the below I still need to leave comments on but I wanted to highlight here as a start!
Please be mindful of any content warnings and I believe all fics/ blogs in this list are 18+
Javier Peña a pile of cards - @mvtthewmurdvck Senorita - @lavendertales
Joel Miller this is me trying - @swiftispunk To Hell and Back - @darkroastjoel Notch - @fuckyeahdindjarin Sleepy - @hier--soir Stay In Bed -@psychedelic-ink

My Writing Throughout July
I've managed four updates this month which I am personally really happy about because this month was hectic! All of my fics are x female reader unless otherwise indicated. I’ve indicated any personal faves with a *
Javier Peña
Secret Smile - chapter three
- chapter four
-chapter five *
Frankie Morales Sing fever to the form*
Favourite July Books, TV, Music, Games and Films
Bunny - Mona Awad [book]- this became so weird though, but definitely carried through the dark academia vibes Bless the daughter raised by a voice in her head - Warsan Shire [book] - her poetry is honestly incredible The Ex Talk - Rachel Lynn Solomon [book] loved this one and there was great chemistry with the main characters
Stick Season - Noah Kahan [music] driving to work while loudly singing Dial Drunk or Homesick is both stress release and a vibe, okay? De Selby (Part 2) - Hozier [music] After one listen, this ended up on about four of my writing playlists. Hozier is just fantastic and I am so excited for his new album - I’ve decide I’m even going to get the vinyl of it.
Hijack [tv] - I am but a human being and a real-time thriller with my man, Idris? Yes, please! It was super tense and worth watching. The Lincoln Lawyer [tv] - I love a good legal show and this is really fun. I also like that they’ve expanded on Haller’s Mexican heritage in the show compared to the books and while I hate they've split the season in half, am looking forward to the new episdodes in August
Sims 4 [game] - yes I’m a simmer, no, I don’t care if you judge me for that. This franchise has had a hold on me since the first iteration and it may never stop.

A Firework In The Sky (Don’t Worry Love You Are Mine)
For @girl-in-thechair
The bang of fireworks lit the sky for a split second, an explosion of golden sparkles sprinkled the air, decorating the black with shimmer light like stars, but they did not possess the ability to last like they did. It only lasted a moment but the memory lasted longer.
Marinette covered her ears as tears pricked her eyes. She took in ragged breaths, trying to get her heart to beat right. She stumbled away from the windows, tripping over a chair causing it to tip along with her causing quite the ruckus. Rather than getting up though, she curled into herself, eyes squeezed tightly shut as her ragged breathing became the only noise in the room.
"Marinette? That you? You ok?" A male voice called.
Marinette couldn't hear him though over the pounding of her own heart. Another bang rang through the air; the window allowing the light of the firework to shine through for the mere seconds it was alive in the air, but that was enough for Marinette to see it through her eyelids and curl tighter, whimpering.
Jason looked through the doorway at the sound and saw his girlfriend in a fetal position on the floor and immediately ran over, scooping her up against him, worry seeping off him in waves.
"Hey hey Mari?!? What's wrong?!?!?"
Marinette's eyes opened in shock at being picked up. As soon as her bluebells met his chocolate she buried her face into his neck. Right on time as another ball of dynamite blasted in the air to explode. She whimpered again and latched onto Jason tightly. His eyebrows creased together as he looked up at the window where the fireworks for the fourth of July were going on.
"Hey Mari," he gently stroked a hand through her hair as he stood up and began walking out of the kitchen, heading to the sound-proof basement, "It's ok, it's ok. You're not there. It's just fireworks. You're safe. Everyone is. He's gone."
Marinette kept her head buried in his neck. Jason pressed a gentle kiss to her shoulder as he descended the stairs. He got to the bottom and walked over to the lounge area, gently setting her on the couch.
"It's ok doll, it's gone now," he told her softly, still holding her close as he stroked her hair.
"I'm sorry," she mumbled after a long while.
"Hey no apologies."
"But…"
"No, everyone has gone through shit. And with it comes trauma. You can't just flick a magical wand or wish in a well to get rid of it, Pix. You're not the first one to break and you certainly won't be the last. But there's no shame in that. Ok?"
Marinette nodded and leaned up, pressing a sweet kiss to his lips.
"I love you Jay."
He smiled softly looking down at his girlfriend, "Love you too Pixie."
They sat just cuddling up for a while before Jason checked his watch for the time.
"You don't have the fourth of July," It wasn't a question but Marinette shook her head anyhow, "Fireworks. They happen every year."
"They sound like…" she couldn't seem to finish that sentence as her eyes misted over.
"Hey, it's ok. I know. I'm sorry I didn't warn you, I forgot."
"It's not your fault."
Jason remained quiet, not agreeing nor disagreeing.
"Jay…"
"It…"
"Is not," she told him firmly.
Jason sighed and nodded reluctantly as a smirk sneaked onto his face, "Yeah yeah Pixie Pop. So bossy."
She stuck her tongue out at him childishly. He chuckled and captured her lips quickly in a kiss, pulling away with a smug grin and moving so his lips just barely grazed her ear, "Fireworks are over darling. Wanna go back upstairs and bake something?"
He pulled away with a cocky grin. She looked at him with a raised brow and a smirk once she collected herself once again, "Absolutely."

Kissing the homies goodnight for Willie (/Willex) because I feel like Willie would.
Ack I'm so sorry this took so long but here you gooo!
Willie ducked into the kitchen to grab the water pitcher and some glasses, praying he wasn't forgetting anything important. They knew it was just their friends crashed across various surfaces in the living room, but it was still nerve-wracking. Willie hadn't been to a sleepover in like... five years, let alone hosted one. They got why the foster care system had to check over people before they could stay overnight, but with the number of times Willie had moved around since entering the system, it just... had never happened.
Caleb had been hesitant at first when Willie asked if they could all stay over, wanting to ensure Willie was settled himself first. And also wanting to meet all of these kids before he let them have free reign of his home.
But it was finally happening. All of Willie's best friends (and his boyfriend, but they hadn't really managed to wrap their head around that one yet) were lounging in his living room at 2 in the morning, some closer to dozing off than others.
Willie wasn't sure which was stronger: the excitement or the terror of messing this up.
He was pretty sure he hit all the main bits on all the 'how to throw a slumber party' lists he'd found online: pizza, way too many types of ice cream toppings (they're not entirely sure how many of those canned cherries Luke ended up fitting in his mouth), random games (he'd never heard of turning pictionary into a drinking game with shots of soda, but apparently that was a thing his friends did), and a movie with lots of popcorn and cozy blankets.
So they're pretty sure they've done alright thus far.
Still, it'd been a long time since Willie did this.
He re-entered the living room just as Alex managed to grab the TV remote and turn off the rolling credits of Legally Blonde. Flynn looked to already be asleep, lying across one of the air mattresses with her feet up on Julie's stomach. Julie had propped herself up a bit on her elbows and was debating...something with Reggie. Both of them looked closer to dozing off than winning though. Luke and Carrie were both sitting upright on one of the couches, madly swiping on their phones and hissing at each other.
"Do I even want to know?" Willie asked Alex quietly, setting the water and cups down on the coffee table and rejoining him on the loveseat.
Alex groaned. "I made the mistake of telling them there's a PvP mode on this tower defense game they both play."
Willie tried to hold back his giggle. He failed.
Alex attempted to glare at them, but mostly just looked sleepily confused. "I'm serious, we're gonna have to take their phones away now if we want them to sleep," he sighed.
Willie winced. "Any chance the game will kick them off after a few rounds?"
Alex shook his head, then leaned over to rest his head on Willie's shoulder. "And they're both too stubborn to give in, I already tried it."
Willie rested their cheek against his hair, letting their lungs adjust to expanding and contracting in time with the light huffs of Alex's breath against their collarbone. "Is it online?" he asked.
"Yeah, why?" Alex responded, blinking up at him sleepily in the dim light of the lamp.
Willie smirked and pulled out his phone. Okay, so Caleb hadn't technically given him the password for the router, but like... it hadn't been hard. He opened the app on his phone that connected to the electronic and started typing.
Twin cries of annoyance erupted from the pair on the other couch a moment later, informing Willie of his success.
"It just kicked me off!" Luke complained.
"Same here," Carrie griped. "Willie I think your wifi died."
Willie looked up, attempting to look innocent. "Oh yeah, I think you're right," they agreed. "Ugh, this happens sometimes, it will probably come back in an hour or two, but we just gotta wait it out."
Both Luke and Carrie groaned, but seemed to buy it and tossed their phones aside. Carrie peeled off her sweater and tossed it down next to Flynn's head, before pulling a blanket up and over herself and stretching out along the couch. Luke slid down onto the air mattress beside Reggie, koala cuddling against his back. Reggie laughed and shifted over so Luke could share his pillow, still discussing... Okay Willie was pretty sure they were trying to figure out who in their friend group would be whom in Legally Blonde. Fair enough.
Willie felt Alex's tiny sigh of relief against his neck and shivered. It felt nice, being close like this and knowing it made Alex just as fluttery as it did them.
Alex brought his fingers up to his chin, then let his hand move forward, palm up. Thank you.
Willie tucked his phone away. "Don't mention it," he whispered, daring to brush his lips against Alex's forehead.
Alex's cheeks turned pink, but Julie interrupted before Willie could tease him about it.
"Hey, no PDA unless you're willing to share with the class," she mumbled, eyes heavy.
"You're one to talk," Alex pointed out, glancing pointedly between her and Flynn's feet still resting on her abdomen.
"Oh you wanna wake her up?" Julie snarked back, the words slurring together a bit.
"I don't think any of us have that death wish," Willie chuckled. They tapped Alex lightly on the shoulder in warning, then stood up. "And I don't mind sharing." Before Julie could respond, he ducked down and pecked her on the forehead. "Sweet dreams, Juju," they added, throwing a spare blanket over her and heading back toward Alex.
"Hey, we're part of the class too," Reggie called out. When Willie turned, he was sticking his bottom lip out, the puppy eyes mostly hidden by his drooping eyelids.
Willie glanced back at Alex, a little startled, but Alex just shrugged and gave him a sleepy smile. So Willie picked his way around to Reggie and gave him a goodnight kiss too. And then Luke perked up a bit and wanted one. And Carrie said she should get one on Flynn's behalf, since her girlfriend was asleep.
"I guess I should have warned you how clingy we all get this late," Alex murmured when Willie finally made it back to his side. "I kinda forgot you haven't been able to be around this before. Just feels really natural."
"All good," Willie promised around a yawn. "Just tryin'a be a good host."
Alex leaned over and hit the button on the side of the love seat to make it lean back, the extending footrest turning it into more of a bed. "It's perfect," he stated, pulling Willie in to lay beside him.
Willie let out a happy sigh and cuddled in closer. Alex's cool arms soothed the nervous energy that was always humming along their skin. He felt Alex's lips brush against his hairline.
"G'night Lex," they mumbled, eyes slipping shut.
"Good night, Willie."
