Change the future part 3
Tumblr media
part 1
a/n: Still on hiatus, just wanted to post something on the triplets' birthday
a/n2: I don’t even know what ship is this about anymore
__________________________
"At some point you're going to have to talk to her about this"
"But that won’t be today, Pepa"
Julieta said as she continued to cook, deliberately ignoring the way her pulse raced and her nerves stood on edge. She didn't even need to turn around to know that her sister was rolling her eyes as she leaned against the door frame. She knew the redhead was right, but she didn't have the will or the courage to face this thing she had been running from for weeks and only one thought lived rent free in her mind.
Y/N’s back.
Her head was spinning just remembering the moment she saw you again. You were thinner, you had more gray hair, and a couple of new wrinkles around your eyes, but you were still her Y/N, warm, simple, and unbelievably beautiful.
She didn't like to admit that she probably would have thrown herself into your arms without thinking if it weren't for Isabela, who had been faster than her. Things hadn’t been easy for her and her two remaining daughters, so the moment they saw you appear over the hill, the three of them had run out of the house not caring that the rest of the family looked at them in confusion.
Isabela didn't even bother to slow her run before she crashed into the open arms you offered her and your joyous laughter made her stomach feel weird, as if thousands of butterflies woke up inside her. You had shared many things in your letters during all those years, and for that time, Julieta allowed herself to think that it was enough, but the universe showed her how wrong she was when, having you in front of her once more, her heart seemed to cry happy tears, as if a piece of her had finally come back to complete her puzzle.
She didn't have time to think about it though, not when her precious Mirabel, now so big and beautiful, lunged at her, hiding her face in her neck, crying and telling her how much she had missed her. It took her brain a moment to recognize that the young woman in her arms was, in fact, her youngest daughter, her baby, but once that settled in her mind, it was like all the weight of the world was finally lifted from her shoulders.
"You're so beautiful, mija" she whispered, not even bothering to stop the tears that ran down her cheeks.
Mirabel had smiled waterily at her, whispering a soft thank you and saying again how much she had missed her. The girl dulled in her mother’s scent for a while, just trying to find the comfort she needed when she left so many years ago, and sighed happily before gasping and pulling away from her to run to the person behind her.
"Tía Pepa!!"
The brunette barely had a few seconds to laugh at the way her daughter was scooped up by the redhead before she herself was tackled by two familiarly strange and warm bodies.
"Tía Juli, look! I'm almost as tall as you!"
"Tía, tía, tía, I already know how to cook! And look! I cut my hair!"
"We brought you presents!"
"But mine are better because I love you more"
"Not true! I love her more!"
"No, I love her more!"
Julieta only managed to laugh softly while Joaquín and María clung to each of her arms and fought for her attention; they had five years of conversations to catch up with her after all. It really felt like time hadn't passed, even though your children were no longer the little babies she saw leaving that night. And then there was you.
You, who had smiled at her with complicity from your own tangle of hugs with Luisa and Isabela, you, who had been her rock, her pillar, and her cane even when you were so far away. You, who were stirring her entire being with your mere presence. You, who had approached her, hugged her when your children still held her arms hostage. You, who had whispered in her ear that little confession that haunted her dreams.
"I was dying to see you again, Eta...I missed you so much"
At that time, she had simply wriggled out of your children's grasp and returned the gesture, trying not to get lost on your warmth (even if she really wanted to cry), having you there was a huge relief, and all the stress and anxiety that had been eating at her insides for years was finally beginning to dissipate, her usually tormented mind was quickly being filled with a single thought: you were here.
"I missed you too" she managed to say, looking into your eyes with a small smile
"Yes, yes, will you get out of here please? There are people who also want to greet Y/N”
Julieta blinked a bit as her sister pulled her away from you and she didn't miss the way you looked at her half amused and half confused before returning Pepa's tight hug. She couldn't blame you, her sister had never been as close to you as she was, but she supposed that after everything that had happened since you left, the redhead's conception of you had changed. Well, at least you knew you had both of your sisters-in-law on your side.
“It's good to see you again, Pepa” you said as you separated “You haven't aged a bit…you don't even have gray hair! I need to know your secret"
"Oh, Y/N" she laughed "it's good to have you back"
"Her secret is to annoy me so that I’m the one getting gray hair and not her'' Julieta joked, crossing her arms.
You looked between the sisters while Pepa rolled her eyes and stuck out her tongue at the brunette, a gesture that the older triplet returned. Your mind struggled to catch up on it all, because you really couldn't remember the last time you'd seen them tease each other so openly, it was pretty cute.
The rest of the meeting was pretty adorable too. Joaquín and María used Félix as a climbing pole, while the man just laughed, Luisa and Isabela told you as much as they could, asking you questions while you tried to pay attention to both of them. Julieta thought that her daughter would ask about Agustín, or that she would be upset with her for their divorce, but Mirabel was quick to give her a hug and assure her that she didn't blame her or cared about him.
The brunette didn't have to wonder much where her youngest daughter was learning to handle the situation, because at that moment you intervened, gently squeezing the girl's shoulder.
"He couldn't bear to lose a daughter so he abandoned the other two? Math ain mathin" you said.
Julieta had just smiled gratefully at you as you winked at her, and for a moment everything felt good, like things were really starting to go back to normal, the way they should be. And then…then you saw Bruno.
The moment your eyes locked on the man hiding behind his mother would never leave her mind. Your eyes, which had been filled with warmth and kindness to everyone, turned cold and filled with a deep sadness that you desperately tried to disguise as disgust. And yet, she couldn't even pretend that she felt bad for her brother.
"Y/N" the man greeted awkwardly, forcing a guilty smile "...you look good."
"Bruno" you answered dryly
The air was charged with an intense tension that everyone could feel in their bones, as if it could be cut with a knife, or as if one wrong move could shatter such a surreal scene into a thousand pieces.
"It's good to see you again"
"I wish I could say the same"
Julieta felt in her own chest the dagger that you were burying on Bruno, who at least had the decency to look at the ground with remorse, but she knew you better.
It wasn't that you wanted to be cruel to the man you had loved more than life, but precisely that love you had for him had hurt you too much, it had destroyed you and it had hurt your children too. You were only trying to protect the hearts you had worked so hard to repair.
"What are you doing here?" Alma asked, looking at you with hate
"I came to see my family" you answered with the most neutral voice you could, but your hands were shaking
"This is no longer your family"
"Mom-" the older triplet tried to intervene.
"You shut up!" The older woman yelled, making everyone jump "Wasn't it enough for you to help this damn woman break the family?! Now you welcome her back with open arms?! After she stole my grandchildren?! Your own daughter?!"
"I didn't steal anyone! They are my children" you defended yourself.
You really didn't want to cause a scene, especially with all the children present, and because more than once you had to comfort Mirabel after waking up to the recurring nightmare involving her grandmother yelling at her. But that woman drove you mad with extreme ease.
"They would have been better here!" Alma replied "Away from your wicked hands. They belonged here, they wanted to stay here!"
"That's not true! My children wanted to go with me!"
"You had no right! They are Bruno's children!"
"He abandoned them!" Julieta yelled, making everyone look at her.
She could feel her heart racing, blood pooling in her cheeks, and a single look at her brother told her that she had finished erasing the faint ghost of what had once been her relationship with him, but she didn't care.
She couldn't care, not when she could see out of the corner of her eye how Mirabel was hiding behind you, how Isabela tried her best to appear calm but her hands moved as if she could still command an army of plants to defend her sisters.
Not when she could see Pepa and Felix trying to create a weak barrier with their bodies between their children and Alma, when Dolores hugged Camilo as if he was a little child in the hope that no one would hurt her brother again.
And especially not when she could feel your own fear, sadness, and despair as Joaquín and María clung to her own sides, suddenly terrified of who had once been a loving grandmother to them. Everything was wrong, everything was damaged beyond repair, there was nothing left for her to break, but she still had a family, a broken one, but a family nonetheless and she had to protect them, no matter from whom.
"How dare you talk about your brother like that?" Alma whispered dangerously "how dare you when you allowed your daughter to be kidnapped?!" that seemed to wake you up.
"Bruno left without saying anything, without caring about us, Julieta just protected us, all of us" you said, placing a hand on your sister-in-law's shoulder.
You didn't know if it was a bad choice of words or action, perhaps both, but you could see the moment when your mother-in-law's eyes flashed with an intense fire fueled by hatred and resentment. You barely managed to see her hand in the air and by intuition you closed your eyes, waiting for the blow.
"Don't you ever dare-"
 But it never came.
"IT'S ENOUGH!"
You opened your eyes to see Julieta holding Alma's hand firmly, preventing it from getting to you. Julieta, the golden daughter of the Madrigal family, the sweetest and most loving woman you'd ever meet, defying the woman who once commanded respect with her mere presence. Although, was it really respect? Or was it fear? You thought that, deep down, it was the latter.
It really was a surreal scene, as if everything was frozen around you. But a voice in the back of your mind told you that it shouldn't surprise you so much, after all, this was also the woman who had made one of the most difficult decisions of her life in order to protect her daughter, the one who had broken blood ties in order to keep the rest of her family safe, the one who, no matter how much it hurt her to be separated from her brother and mother, still got up every day for the others’ sake.
No, it definitely shouldn't surprise you that if anyone had the strength to face Alma and everything that entailed, it was precisely the one who was once the brightest star in the family constellation.
Julieta Madrigal was many things, beautiful, brave, strong, maternal, affectionate and loyal, but she also hid a wolf inside her, one that was already fed up with seeing how her pack was threatened. She was ready to get the fangs out, and you were beginning to see why the rest had trusted her to be the head of the family.
"You insolent-"
"I SAID THAT’S ENOUGH!" the brunette growled, still holding her mother's hand "I've been patient with you, mother, but not anymore."
You could hear a couple of gasps behind you, and you weren't too surprised when Pepa approached you like a scared little girl while Mirabel hugged her. If you didn't know that the miracle was gone, you would think that the icy wind that enveloped you was your sister-in-law’s fault.
"Let go, Julieta-"
"I'm not going to let you talk like that to Y/N" she replied, you could see that she was squeezing the older woman's hand tightly, and from Alma's expression, it was obvious that it hurt, but it seemed like no one could move as you witnessed "the next time you raise your hand to her, me, or anyone in this family, it will be the last time you have a family"
That was a sentence that you yourself could feel in your bones. There was absolutely no trace of compassion or kindness in the older triplet's voice, nor did it leave any doubt that she would keep her word. It was a perfect ultimatum, one that even Alma seemed to understand, because she didn't utter a word as her daughter released her and walked back to the house.
The rest of you looked at each other for a few seconds before Pepa, with Mirabel still in her arms, went after her sister, causing the rest to follow her, including your children, who passed by Bruno without even looking at him, and ran to reach the hands of their favorite aunt. Your mother-in-law just muttered something about going with the Guzmáns and she walked away, disappearing into the night.
Only you and Bruno were left, both looking at each other with surprise, doubt and a little fear. Your eyes seemed to ask a thousand questions but neither of you understood what they were. In the end, you simply sighed and lightly hugged the man who, you must have reminded yourself, was still your husband.
"This wasn't how I expected tonight to go" you confessed lightly.
"It was something that was destined to happen" he whispered "if this didn't explode before it was only because Juli always had the patience of a saint... but I guess everything has a limit"
"I'm so sorry" you said to yourself, guilt beginning to rise in you "if I hadn't-"
"Don't, it wasn't because of you" he smiled a little "...things have been tense between them since before I even met you."
"Really?" you frowned "but...it seemed like she was the favorite daughter"
"She was the closest to the perfect doll mom had in mind" he corrected you "And it only got worse when we turned 5"
"When you got the gifts?"
"Yes" he sighed and looked at his hands "Pepa and I suffered a lot for our gifts, but we always knew that Julieta had it worse"
"Why?"
"Because she's the one who looks the most like dad" he answered, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world "If she hadn't been born a woman, I assure you, she would be his living portrait"
You thought about it for a moment. You had seen Pedro Madrigal's portrait many times, and although you had never paid much attention to physical details, you had always believed that he radiated a warmth that you only knew from his eldest daughter. It made sense that Alma would have seen the ghost of her late husband in her, and at that moment, something clicked on you.
"And Julieta's gift allowed her to help the community like no one else could" you looked him in the eye "Despite the exhaustion and fatigue, she was always ready to help others... like your father"
"That's right" he agreed.
"But...her gift made her absorb others’ pain" you continued, with the pieces falling into place in your mind quickly "she was in constant suffering...Alma made her reenact Pedro's sacrifice every day"
"And Pepa and I couldn't do anything"
You looked at Bruno for a moment. Despite being the youngest, he looked terribly tired, his eyes swam in deep sadness, his hands trembled and he looked incredibly fragile. Your heart forgot all about anger and disappointment, and was quickly filled with the same affection you had felt for him the first time you met him, a tender and childish love, pure and sincere. He was a brother who felt guilty for not protecting his sister.
"You love her" you said, it wasn't a question.
"As you don't have an idea" he answered anyway "when I came back, it was her arms that I wanted to feel, not mom's" he admitted "but she was furious with me, and with good reason. I shouldn't have left, I shouldn't have left you or the children, I shouldn't have allowed mom to treat Mirabel like that...I should have done things differently...but that doesn't matter now"
You looked at him sympathetically and put a hand on his shoulder so that he looked at you. He seemed so lost, like a kid who has broken something and didn't know how to apologize to mom. Yes, there were too many things that maybe he could have done differently, you too. But that no longer mattered, time was not going to come back and all you could do was start walking towards the best option you had now, and you both knew that that option had a name.
"Have you tried talking to her?" you asked softly
"Mom is always by my side" he said "And I n-never have the courage to talk to her when we're alone, I…I just don't want her to hate me more"
"She doesn't hate you" you said immediately "she could never hate you... you're her baby brother, and we both know that deep down, there will always be a place in her heart for you, no matter how hard Alma tries to keep you from getting back on good terms with her."
"I feel like I've failed her too much" he murmured, looking at the ground "It doesn't matter what I do anymore, our relationship is broken beyond repair...B-but I love her, that's why I try to keep mom busy with me and leave the rest of us alone. I love her and Pepa, and-and I love our family, my nephews, my nieces, my children...and you"
Your cheeks warmed at the last words, and by the way his eyes looked everywhere but at you, you knew he hadn't expected that confession to slip out of him either, at least not at the moment. You smiled and hugged him again, trying not to let the discomfort touch you.
"Talk to her, Bruno" you said "I'm sure you can fix things...so can we" you smiled
He looked at you hopefully and slowly smiled back, walking silently beside you as you went back to the house. You both knew this wasn't a mend, that there was still too much going on between you, but at least you were headed in the right direction. After all, you'd already fallen in love with him once, who said it couldn't happen twice?
______________________
Except that the first time you hadn't had your sister-in-law's face on your mind, nor had you had a little five-year-old nephew rock your entire world with a simple question.
You really couldn't blame the little guy. Antonio was just a child trying to catch up with the changing situation of his family, he was learning to live with some cousins and an aunt he never knew and you knew you had to be patient with his questions.
You had to admit that he was adorable, and despite Pepa's teasing, it was nice to have him behind you all day. Joaquín and María had become his best friends immediately and it was obvious that he was replacing your son as Mirabel's favorite cousin.
Speaking of your children, both of them were making a titanic effort to stay away from their grandmother, but they were spending more and more time with their father, which seemed to be the first steps towards Bruno becoming part of the "good side" of the family again, as the children liked to call it.
Your relationship with him was still in the mending process, but at least you could say you were friends again, which seemed to relieve Pepa, one less battle to fight between her siblings, you guessed.
The problem was Julieta.
She was still your favorite sister-in-law and your best friend, without a doubt, but things were starting to get weird for you when you realized that she was slowly becoming your favorite person too. You seemed unable to stop your smile every time you saw her and your heart raced when you heard her laugh.
It was a terribly familiar and terrifying feeling, because you knew that she shouldn't have that effect on you, that you shouldn't feel with her what you once felt with Bruno. And yet you couldn't stop.
As much as you tried to lie to yourself, it was obvious that you were always trying to be with her, whether it was helping her cook or just chatting with her over coffee, it didn't matter, you just wanted to be close to her. You felt bad for a while, but then you started noticing the way she would blush every time you smiled at her or how she would look at you when she thought you weren't paying attention.
You were both playing a dangerous game, but it somehow felt so…natural, like that was the only logical path for you. You didn't expect that to be confirmed by the miracle itself.
It was one afternoon when, a few days after finishing the reconstruction of Casita, you and Julieta were sitting in the kitchen, just talking, you were telling her about the first dress that Mirabel made when Camilo ran in, his eyes full of emotion and fear in equal measure.
"Tías, you have to come quickly" he told you
"What's going on?" Julieta asked, even as you both were already getting up
"You have to see it for yourself"
You and the brunette looked at each other curiously for a second before hurrying after your older nephew. The rest of the family was already there and you only had to look in the same direction to understand the commotion. The candle was back.
Well, not exactly. The candle itself was there, but it was out. Still, you knew what that could mean for your family, you knew what they could get back if they managed to make it shine again. The question was, how?
"Mom, you have to take it" Mirabel said excitedly
"What?"
"Think about it Juli" Pepa agreed "you're the new head of the family, you should be the one to protect the candle now... right?"
"I… I guess"
Julieta looked at you for a moment, and you could see the doubt and anxiety in her eyes, so you just smiled and nodded, hoping that was enough comfort for her. The brunette returned your smile before approaching the candle. Her hands trembled and you did not doubt that memories of when she received her gift, more than 45 years ago, passed through her mind.
You all held your breath as the older triplet's hands carefully took hold of the candle and a current passed through you. It was soft and warm, just like a tickle. You waited a moment, but nothing else happened. You could see the disappointment in the rest of the family, especially the brunette, but they all faked supportive smiles.
"Maybe we need to call-"
"No Juli, we don't need her"
You were a bit surprised by Pepa's tone, but you could understand. Alma hadn't been back since the night you returned to Encanto, taking refuge with the Guzmans ever since. It hurt a little that this distanced Dolores from Mariano, but no one could deny that everyone breathed more peace since she was gone. It didn't seem strange to you that they refused to call her now.
"It's because tía Y/N isn’t close" Antonio said suddenly, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world
"Excuse me?" you blinked
"Abuela's candle was lit because Abuelo loved her" the boy explained.
You all looked at him like he was growing another head, but deep down, you all wanted to know the reasoning behind that little head. After all, the little ones always have the most creative solutions.
"What does that have to do with tía Y/N, Antonio?" Mirabel asked softly
"Tía Y/N loves tía Julieta" he said "the candle has to light if she's around her girlfriend, right?"
You didn't even need Dolores' gift to hear a pin drop, not when the room was deathly silent. You looked at Julieta out of the corner of your eye and you could see that her face was redder than a tomato, and you doubted that you were better. Your heart was racing like crazy, your hands were sweating and you could feel the anxiety building up in you.
How could a five-year-old boy understand better than you the forbidden feelings that had been blooming in you for your sister-in-law? Had you been too obvious? Did the others notice it too? God, you didn't even want to look at Bruno.
"Mami! mami!"
María's voice brought you out of your thoughts and you looked at her worriedly. Your daughter just looked at you in amazement and pointed with her little hand to the place where your attention should be. You hadn't even realized that you had approached Julieta, but now you were facing each other, with the candle between you and a small flame sprouting.
“It can’t be” you heard Isabela whispering while Pepa gasped
The moment you took a step back, the small flame went out. The brunette looked at you for a second before slowly approaching you again, causing the candle to relight. It wasn't a strong, magical glow like the one it had before the whole disaster, but it was a promise that you’d get the miracle back.
Except that neither you nor Julieta wanted to think about what the miracle was asking of you, or what that meant for both of you and your respective families.

...He raised his eyebrows in surprise at that. Favorite people? Was he included on that list? Julieta just smiled and turned back to the dishes. It took Bruno a moment, but he also slowly resumed his duties, finding he couldn't put away the little smile on his own face that had arrived at the thought that he might be someone's favorite.
I drew from my fic La Traes again for @encantober-official Day 2 - siblings. This scene is a little exchange that happens between the triplets--the OG siblings. You can find the whole thing below the cut.
“You need to get out of the house, hermanito,” Julieta had said to him gently one evening after dinner as they washed dishes together. “It’s…been a while, sí?”
“Eso se queda corto,” Pepa had mumbled as she dumped some more dishes into the soapy water, earning a glare from both of her siblings. [ That's an understatement.] She widened her eyes at them as if to say What? Am I wrong?
“I’m just saying ,” Julieta continued, pointedly moving past Pepa’s comment, “that it might do you some good, to have a little more change of scenery.”
“I-I think I’m doing just fine,” he replied a bit defensively. And he did. He went for walks with Dolores around the perimeter of Casita, down to the river where it ran past the southwest edge of the grassy lawn. Sometimes he’d wander out back behind the house, napping in the afternoon sun before it disappeared behind the mountainous wall that guarded the back of their home. Compared to the previous ten years, he was a veritable expeditionist now.
“Of course you are,” Pepa said, putting an arm around his shoulders. He hunched them in response, glancing at her suspiciously.
“Y-yeah?”
“Yeah! You’ve made it to the edge of the grass! That’s like, what, un kilómetro cuadrado, yeah? A completely normal amount of space for a person to exist in.”
[One square kilometer.] Bruno’s frown deepened. “You’re mocking me.”
Pepa winked at him.
“A-alright, alright,” he said, waving his hands in the air beside his head in surrender. “I’ll, uh, I'll go to the banana fields tomorrow. As long as it’s not a harvest day,” he added, pointing a finger at Julieta, who rolled her eyes good-naturedly at him. “Or an irrigation day. Or you know…a-a day with other, um, other people there.”
The busyness of rebuilding Casita last year had given him enough social interaction outside his immediate family to last him quite a while…a very long while. Thankfully, he’d been able to largely lose himself in the organized chaos of it all, and Mirabel had been particularly helpful, working as a liaison between him and anyone he’d had to interact with, smoothing the awkwardness away with her easy conversation and joyful presence. And he had managed to largely ignore the curious stares that came from, well, from pretty much everyone until the novelty of his return had worn off. Well…at least he had pretended to ignore them.
“I don’t want to pressure you, arenoso,” Julieta said gently, putting a slightly soapy hand on his shoulder. “I just don’t want…”
…don’t want you to get lost again. She’d let her sentence trail off, but the unspoken ending hung awkwardly in the air anyway. They’d both turned back to their dishes, with Pepa standing stiffly beside them, hugging a freshly dried plate to her stomach. The cloud above her head darkened just a little. Bruno winced down at the soapy water as the silence surrounding them grew painful.
“H-hey, maybe you can spend the day with Antonio tomorrow?" Pepa offered nervously, popping the tension like a soap bubble. "He needs a…a break …from routine, too."
Bruno and Julieta looked at their sister with matching frowns, both narrowing their eyebrows in concern. It would have been comical or even sweet to see the same expression mirrored between her two siblings again…if she didn’t feel the weight of the very same concern pulling down the corners of her own mouth.
Antonio had been struggling to find a place for himself in the Madrigal visits to town. Before his gift, he might have shyly clung to Mirabel’s skirts or played in the dirt while Pepa rained on the fields, never quite brave enough to venture out to play with the other children on his own, refusing to speak to the adults that smiled down at him. Pepa worried about his shyness.
But now a different problem had presented itself. Antonio was now more than happy to engage with anyone and everyone, possessing a newfound courage with his animal friends by his side, but his animal friends were also decidedly wild, and even Antonio could not control every move they made. Just last week, some monkeys that had trailed him into the town had wandered away and found some storage crates of fruit, working together to drop them from the roof of a nearby house until the crates smashed open and spilled out a feast that was then fit only for them. The owner of the crates had not been happy.
Most of the jungle animals had largely maintained a healthy, fearful distance from the bustling, busy streets of the Encanto for the fifty years it had occupied the valley, but Antonio’s warmth and friendship seemed to have blurred that boundary, and Abuela was struggling to find a balance between loving encouragement and civic order. And when Abuela struggled with something, all the Madrigals struggled with her, in one way or another.
“...Mamá suggested that maybe Antonio might spend some time in the forest paths, playing with his gift,” Pepa explained, putting away the plate so she could pull at her braid. A knowing glance between all three siblings conveyed the underlying meaning of the word play—learn to get it under control. “Félix was going to take him, but you two get along so well, Bruno. Maybe you could spend some time with him, and you both could enjoy the fresh air. You know. Bonding?”
Bruno blew out an exaggerated breath, his cheeks puffing and his shoulders dropping dramatically. He pulled his mouth to the side and looked at Pepa with an expression of reluctant concession. How could he say no to a whole day with his sobrino? He loved the kid. And the very fact that Abuela had been the one to suggest the break from town…well. He knew what that felt like. No matter how nicely she put it, how lovingly she intended it, he knew it would feel like a punishment to Antonio. That thought…well that thought broke his heart a little.
“...F-fine,” he mustered in response. “We’ll go for a walk in the–- ” he swallowed dryly“ –- i-in the forest.”
A bit of sunlight broke through from behind the cloud above Pepa’s head, and Bruno couldn’t help but flash a small, crooked smile up at it. She pulled him sideways by his collar and planted a kiss on his cheek, which he winced at but accepted gratefully. Julieta nudged him with her hip.
“There you go! That will be fun,” she said happily, clearly convinced this was a fantastic solution for all parties. Bruno was not so sure. “Take Mirabel with you, too, if you want. You know she’d love to join her two favorite people for the day.”
Bruno had raised his eyebrows in surprise at that. Favorite people? Was he included in that list? Julieta had just smiled and turned back to the dishes. It had taken Bruno a moment, but he also slowly resumed his duties, finding he couldn’t put away the little smile on his own face that had arrived at the thought that he might be someone’s favorite.
So here he was now, sharing a picnic blanket with a sloth and a capybara—among other crawling, flittering things—nursing a bruised ego after having been tackled by a six year old on a jaguar, all because he was a pushover who couldn’t say no to time with his sobrinos.
Caray. The things I get myself into…

“the most unrealistic part of encanto is the magic” NO. The most unrealistic part of encanto is how mirabel only whispers “ow” during this scene:

Forever
Yandere Madrigal family x reader
Tumblr media
Your eyes slowly started open, then you saw the whole Madrigal family, before you. "Wait w-what's-" "no need to worry Amor" Julieta cut you off. "B-but-" then you had once again been cut off but, by Isabela this time. "No but's darling you're are ours now" you then asked " what if someone comes to finds me?" "we'll deal with that when that happens mi Vida" Camilo replied. You started to struggle a bit until you realized the restraints were too tight. "It's no use doll, you can't leave us" Dolores stated possessively. You gulped in fear, scared of what they were going to do.
Once they left the room you decided to escape, reaching to your back pocket, pulling out your pocket knife. And then, just barley being able to cut through the ropes. Once you hacked your way through the ropes, you opened the window attempting to climb out but saw the height.
You swallowed all your fear and then jumped, pain shot through your legs. But, you ignored it. You heard the distance calls of the Madrigal family follow, it only made you run faster. But you, tripped and then sprained your ankle. You tried to drag yourself away but, had gotten picked up by strong arms, being Luisa's.
"Look at you, you hurt yourself. You need to be more careful!" Luisa scolded you, she then quickly brang you back to the family. Everyone then quickly hugged you, Julieta then gave you some of her food. Making your ankle heal, Luisa then put you down. Suddenly you felt tired and a bit drowsy, you then fell to the ground, your world fading to black. The Madrigal family only smiling. You were theirs now, forever

⊰᯽⊱┈──╌❊╌──┈⊰᯽⊱
There she is,
Standing alone in cold while holding a basket of fruits. Trying to remember what is she supposed to do in this life.
Her eyes kept staring into the lake as if she's having her own scenario in her own little world. (Y/N) shakes her head as she shift her gaze to where the casita is.
It's been eighteen years, she haven't told her biggest secret to her mother. She doesn't have any confidence to do so, her heart was beating so slow as if it could stop at any moment.
Her face was always pale since she was born in this cruel world, of course she tried her best to keep healthy, Some days, much like this one, (Y/N) felt slipping away from herself. Hallucinating almost everyday. She also barely eat, sleep, and almost never talk to any of her family.
She could hear the distant noise of her sister calling her name multiple times, so she turned fully to the source is. “Oh, Mirabel.” she mutters quitely making the youngest one cross her arms.
“You're daydreaming again, (Y/N).” the older sister raises her eyebrows as she soften her gaze to the younger one, “I am? I think i'm just tired.”
Mirabel frowns, clearly suspicious towards (Y/N). “Say, why don't you go take some rest and i'll do your chores.” the latter widen her eyes, “What? No, i still need to carry these fruits and those ingredients for Mamá—”
She immediately cut off when the youngest Madrigal snatch the basket of fruits from her, it surprises her that she can carry the heaviest basket of hers. “Nope! You're going to get some rest, Mi Hermana. You look very tired, so please.” Mirabel begged making the older one sighs in defeat.
“Okay, but don't overdo it, Mirabel. And thank you so much.” (Y/N) pats her younger sister head as she give her a small smile. How unfortunate, she's not going to see her growing up to a beautiful young lady.
She watches her youngest sister walked away while trying her best not to fall along with the fruits she just picked from the garden. (Y/N)'s smile falters as she put her hand on her chest to make sure that she still can feel the weak heart.
Not many people liked (Y/N) in the town, due to her cluelessness always bringing about misfortune, which she was very unaware of.
About her condition, as well, meant that they would have to take care of her more. People stayed away from (Y/N), except children, but even then the parents would hastily call them away.
(Y/N) never thought much about it, unaware of the scary rumours that revolved around her. People just didn’t like her. That’s it.
She's far different compared to Isabela who is loved by the people in town. Isabela was the opposite of her, as if she's the source light of life and (Y/N) is just a dark cold shadow who keeps hiding in their place.
But like i said, (Y/N) tried her best. She really did. For her Abuela, for the family, for the Encanto. Her thoughts were immediately interrupted when she remembered something, (Y/N) immediately returned to Casita and immediately took the teddy bear she had just sewn.
Surprisingly, she will give the doll to her mother, Julieta. A soft smile slowly crept on her pale face as she look at the stuffed teddy bear with crude stitching she had done to the teddy bear's chest.
(Y/N) held the teddy close to her chest and began to search for her mother presence. When she's about to enter the kitchen, she saw Isabela being healed by their mother.
“You hurt your ankle again?” “Sí, Mamá.” Julieta sighs as she hold her daughter's beautiful— perfect face carefully. For some reason, (Y/N)'s weak heart ache at the sight.
“Remember, Be careful next time.” Julieta smiles at Isabela who nodded her head. “I will, Thank you for the arepa, Mamá.” the perfect Madrigal giggles as she embrace her mother.
Until they heard something fall from the counter as they shift their gaze and only found a cute handmade teddy bear on the floor. Julieta slowly walked to the stuffed bear and pick it up while admiring it by flipping it over her palms.
“Do you know who made this?” Julieta asked her eldest daughter, “I don't know, i think it's Mirabel since she loved to sew.” Julieta smiles at the thought about her youngest daughter wanted to surprise her but failed.
“I'll be going now, don't want to leave the chores alone by itself!” Isabela quickly excuse herself as she flashed her mother a grateful smile and then leave the older woman alone in the kitchen with a stuffed teddy bear.
(Y/N) can only shut her mouth, almost having a heart attack by her own action after tripping herself. She internally scremed at herself, (Y/N) can only ducked her head in shame.
Not long after, She gasp as she've weathered another round of suffering, taking a moment to catch her breath and allow her heart to regain its ability to pump blood through her body.
“I have to take my meds, or else ... I won't be seeing her tomorrow on my birthday.” she mumbles while rub her backhead bashfully.
꧁༺༒༻꧂
There is no doubt that (Y/N) is going to die. Soon.
The young Madrigal keeps trying to find a courage to tell her mother that she is the one who sewed the stuffed teddy bear. Sadly, she doesn't have any.
Her weak heart keep beating and beating slowly as if begging for her to stop moving and rest for a while. But she keeps forcing herself to hit the limits, she keeps trying her best.
Not long after, she gave in, expecting for the worst as she enters the kitchen and see her mother is busy cooking for breakfast.
“Uh— Mamá?” (Y/N) called, Julieta stop her work and then turned to see her daughter, “Oh, (Y/N)! G'morning Corazón, Also— Happy birthday!” Julieta greeted her daughter as if she's still baby then hugged her tightly.
(Y/N) didn't hugged her back, making Julieta's smile falter. “Mi vida, are you okay?” The mother asks, (Y/N) raises her eyebrows as she soften her gaze.
“Yes, everything is okay but— i just want to let you know that the stuffed teddy bear you found yesterday, was sewed by me.” the daughter replies as she shift her gaze to the teddy bear where Julieta put it on the counter.
Julieta gasps, “You sewed? Since when? It's wonderful!” Julieta take the teddy bear and began to inspect it again. “I uh— two months ago, and i wanted to give it to you but i failed.” The second eldest daughter of hers ducked her head in embarassement.
“That is so sweet of you, Mi Amor, thank you— i love it. He looks very cute,” (Y/N) notices that Julieta's gaze was stop at the stitching chest on the teddy bear. “He got a heart transplant,” (Y/N) explains making the healer raises her eyebrows in question, tracing the stitching with her hand. “His heart was sick so he got a new one.”
Julieta soften her gaze and then kiss the teddy bear's chest. “Then, i'm glad you're the one who healed him.” the healer laughed at her daughter's priceless expression.
“Yes, i am glad.” she mutters, looking at her mother sadly. The grief inside her began to build up and swell in her chest, and it hurt her so badly.
She was so alone, so sad. She felt as if someone was stabbing at her weak heart with a knife, and it hurts do badly. She never thought that she's going to die and never see the loving mother and Family.
(Y/N) doesn't know why either she hides this weak heart of hers. The way she born different from her sisters and cousins. It made her heart drop. The meaning of a presence will be felt when the loss has taken it, if that happens, then only regret will be created.
She knew that if she dies, Julieta would blame herself for giving her a weak body, a weak heart. Weak lungs to breathe. A part of her didn't want that to happen.
“I haven't eat Mamá's arepa since i was little ... What will happen if i eat them again? Will this weak heart of mine would be stronger and healed?” (Y/N) mumbles making the older woman tilt her head in confusion.
“What did you just say?” the young Madrigal gulped, “Nothing, just some chores. Abuela wants me to deliver those packages again.” (Y/N) reasoned and then give her mother a warm smile.
“Alright then, be careful. If anything happens, find me at my stand like always, okay?” Julieta tiptoes to kiss her daughter's forehead and then her nose, making (Y/N) giggles.
“See you later, Ma!” little did Julieta know, (Y/N) take one of her arepa to test herself out before she's too late to try. The latter sprinted to their garden and then stare at the arepa for a moment.
“Okay then, you only live once. The moment of truth—”
(Y/N) immediately shoves the arepa into her mouth in a second and then let her favor the taste.
But she doesn't know that her hope betrayed her.
Two minutes later, she felt something inside her started to build up making her coughs so hard, (Y/N) close her mouth her both pf her hands as she tried her best to ease her coughing.
Her breath hitched, her throat constricted as if it didn't want to let her breathe through her mouth. Tears started to pool in her eyes as if they were ready to flow at any moment. However, she was in so much pain that she ignored the tears that started to roll down her cheeks.
It didn't kill her, but something inside her died that day.
When she stops coughing, she gasps when she saw the blood on her hands. (Y/N) falls on the ground, staring at the red liquid on her pale hands with shocked. She let a soft sob escape her lips as her tears mixed up with her blood.
“Dios ... Why me?” she sobbed quitely as possible, not wanting to let her cousin hear this sickness of hers. She bloody screamed internally. Debating with herself, should she tell her mother and the family or not. She doesn't had any idea either.
(Y/N) slowly gave in, accepting her fate that she's going to die. Forgetting about her chores as she wipes her bloody hands and mouth. The effect of the arepa is like forcing her weak heart to beat a lot stronger than before.
But that only made her heart pump the blood inside her body a lot faster, almost making herself explode at any moment.
(Y/N) couldn't do anything except stare at the blue sky she admire most since it remembered her to her mother's favorite color. Her smile, her laugh, her hugs, her kisses. She adores them all.
(Y/N) wipe her tears away and let herself to control her breathe.
She is going to die. Tonight.
꧁༺༒༻꧂
“Where is (Y/N)?” Isabela asks her sisters who doesn't have any idea either where their sister is.
“She's supposed to be here early!” Mirabel exclaimed as she keeps trying to search her sister from the crowds. “I think she's with Mom.” Luisa add in.
“Then what are we waiting for? Let's go find her.” Isabela grab her sister's wrist and lead them to the kitchen. “Woah! Okay slow down—” Mirabel almost tripped but Luisa immediately catch her.
“Careful.” “Isa, slow down!—”
When they entered the kitchen, the three siblings saw their mother staring at a bloody ruana. And that ruana is (Y/N)'s. “Mirabel, Luisa. Can you two please go check your sister at her room? And Isabela,” the mother turned her gaze to where her daughter is.
“Let's see what she's been hiding from us.” with that, Julieta give the bloody ruana to Luisa and then the two of them quickly left the kitchen in order to find their sister. Isabela was stunned was she sees her mother's tears are gliding on her cheeks but still expressing her worried face without sobbing.
When they finally reach to (Y/N)'s room, her door was completely not shining at all. As if giving them a sign that she's no longer using her gift or she's not in this world already. Julieta wipes her tears away as she grab the knob and open the door immediately.
She saw her two daughters and (Y/N) stood up from her bed while taking the bloody ruana from Luisa's big hand.
“Luisa, i'm fine. There is nothing wrong with me— i'm not sick, no, let's just get ready to party.” the second eldest daughter pondered as she turned her head.
Finally looked at her mother in the eyes. (Y/N) gasped, seeing her worried expression. Julieta held her hands together, worriedly, as if she was waiting for an explanation from her sick daughter.
Isabela's eyebrows were raised, her eyes open wide, and her mouth was slightly agape. She was so worried and (Y/N) felt bad for putting her in this situation. (Y/N) felt bad for everything.
“Mira Mi amor - yo sigo aqui, yo sigo estando para ti.” Julieta walked closely to where (Y/N) is. The daughter can only sobbed as she helplessly hug her mother in tight embrace.
She just couldn't believe that she's going to die.
What a horrible fact indeed, The town's healer can feel that (Y/N)'s body is deadly cold like a corpse. She knew that this is going to happen, but she thought (Y/N) would survive since she didn't do any heavy things - no, she never did.
All she did was reading her books at her room, watching people work, helping her mother prepared for the breakfast, lunch and even dinner. Nothing more, no, nothing more.
“I— ... Mamí, i don't want to die. I-i'm scared, i don't want to— leave... No, i never wanted to leave you, all of you!”
Julieta's heart break at the sight, she couldn't believe it either. Isabela can only watch them in worried, Luisa couldn't help but felt uneasy inside herself, and Mirabel - she's very silent while fiddling her fingers nervously.
“Mi amor— ... Tell us, tell us what do you want to do, what do you want to eat, now.” Julieta whispers in her motherly tone as always, trying her best to calm her soon-she's-going-to-die daughter, even though she could screams at the top of her lungs.
“I don't know— i just ... I just want to be with you, that's all.” (Y/N) replied as she put her head on the mother's neck. Julieta glance at her daughters who are still standing behind her, doesn't know whar to do.
Isabela, being the oldest and responsible one, she understood the sign of her mother's eye gave to her. She quickly assure her sisters to go out from (Y/N)'s room, though she felt hopeless because she's going to lose her secretly favorite sister.
The oh so fragile one.
When they heard the door is finally closed, (Y/N) still wrapped her arms around Julieta's body. Not going to let her go, until the death do them apart. “Mamí,” (Y/N) called in softest way, couraging to stay alive in pathetic way.
“Yes, mi dulce?” Julieta quickly respond as she doesn't want to let her daughter down at her last moment. A comfort silence was filled in the cold room, Julieta's heart began to race too since she saw the bloody ruana of her daughter.
“—Te amo, Mamí. Ugh— ... Por favor, te amo mucho.” she mumbles as her body violently shaking.
It's been so long for her to say those words. Oh so long.
“Me too, mi preciosa, me too. Since the day you're in my tummy, i never felt that i don't love you.” She hushed in gentle tone, as she rubs (Y/N)'s back in circles.
(Y/N) couldn't help but felt relief, so relief that she can finally let the words fall from her mouth ever since she was little. Nothing making her worried now, she's finally relief and in peace. No more burden, no more mockery, no more hate.
Just some peace, love, and her mother.
Julieta help her daughter to lay herself on her bed then hold her hand, she smiled warmly for the first time ever and her eyes war reflecting an eternal happiness. Julieta can feel her tears started to fall again, but she keep her best to stay calm.
It's unbelieveable to stay calm when your dearest person is going to day, well, not to Julieta Madrigal. If this is what her daughter's want, then she'll take any risk to support her. Even though they had to be apart forever.
“Thank you for everything, Mamá ... I'm so lucky to be your— daughter.” and that broke Julieta down in any seconds, (Y/N) still manage to squeeze her hand to comfort her for the last time.
“Tell the others... i love them so much, okay? Please— i... I don't want to leave if my family didn't know that i— i love them dearly...” she sobs, her weak heart beats started to slow more and more. Julieta nods her head, no words to let out.
With that, (Y/N) smiled at her mother then breathed for her one last time. Julieta can feel her daughter's hand no longer holding hers as kept holding it and put it on her forehead.
Though, one day, (Y/N) hope that the necklace that she brought and put it inside the teddy bear can be notice by her mother. A beautiful golden necklace that engraved a special name for the town's healer.
‘ Mi Mama - Julieta. ’

“Camilo, stand straight,”
“Ay,” Camilo groaned, but did as told. “I’m standing straight.”
“Five years. For five years I’ve been telling you this,” Y/N said, putting up five fingers. He looked at her palm, nodding.
She didn’t know what to expect, but what he did next was not it. Camilo placed his own palm against hers and interlocked their fingers. Bringing their joined hands higher, he placed a tender kiss on the back of her palm. She bit the inside of her cheek at this action. If there was one thing to always expect from Camilo, it was him being unexpectedly cute.
“Dork,” she muttered, untangling her fingers from his grasp.
She placed her elbow back on her knee and rested her chin on her palm. Staring ahead, she tapped her fingers against her cheeks.
Camilo stood beside her, not feeling like joining his girlfriend on the stone wall. “You okay?”
“Yeah,” she responded, but her eyes remained on the setting sun. Like she wasn’t exactly listening. Camilo’s eyebrows scrunched. Turning his whole body towards her, he took a step forward. Now vis-a-vis and blocking the view, Y/N had to look up at him.
“Mi vida, you’re spacing out,” he deadpanned.
“I’m just taking in the view,”
“This isn’t the first time,”
Y/N straightened. Her hands fell down onto her lap, her torso was now perpendicular to the ground. That way, they could see eye to eye. But did they?
“I’m fine, Camilo,” she said.
“I hope so,” he sighed. “Because if you weren’t that would mean you’re not telling me something I should know.”
She tensed at the seriousness that overcame both his features and voice. This was the less common side of Camilo Madrigal. The one he reserved for scolding his loved ones for not taking care of themselves. Serious Camilo was someone she got to meet a lot these past few months, actually.
Instead of responding, she reached down and gently took his wrist. Sliding her hand into his own, she brought it up. She placed it on her lap. With a sigh and a nod, she started playing with his palm, his fingers. Caressing his smooth skin, delicately touching his rough from all the work fingertips. She couldn’t help but notice how quickly the tension left him and soon his hand went limp. Free for her to play with.
“You care a lot,” she said quietly. “But you don’t need to worry about me. I’m fine. I’m happy actually.”
By closing his fingers on her own, he stopped her little game. “You are?”
“Very.” she smiled.
“Mhm,” he hummed, stepping closer and moving to hold her other hand. “Why? What’s causing you to be so happy?”
A soft laugh escaped Y/N’s throat. “I know you know. You just want to hear me say it.”
“Maybe.” he let go of her hands. His own made their way to her waist. His fingers rubbed up and down her sides, dancing across her skin. “Come on, say it.”
“Dios, it’s you.” she rolled her eyes. “There. Ego boosted enough?”
He shook his head, before staring deep into her eyes and placing his forehead against hers. “I’m gonna need a name. Who did you say makes you happy?”
She pressed her lips tightly as a smile spread across her face. “Camilo.” she responded after having a mental debate with herself about whether she should or not.
“Oh? Who’s that? There are a lot of Camilo’s in this world. You’re gonna have to be more specific-“
“Madrigal, jeez. It’s Camilo Madrigal,” she laughed, cutting him off.
“Camilo Madrigal? What about him?” he kissed her cheek.
“You’re insufferable, I can’t believe you,”
“That sounds like a you problem.” he kissed her other cheek. “What about him?” he repeated his question.
“Camilo Madrigal makes me happy,” she gave in.
He pulled away unconvinced. Raising his brow and pursing his lips, he stared at her. Y/N groaned.
“Camilo Madrigal makes me very happy, the happiest actually,”
“And?”
“And I love him very much,” she said, wrapping her arms around his neck. She pulled him back to her. “I love him more than anything.”
“That’s my girl,” he whispered before kissing her deeply.

carlos madrigal headcanon
im obsessed with carlos rn SO HEADCANONS HERE WE GO
he’s very different than camilo
even though theyre the same age and were born at around the same time, not alot of people believe that theyre twins, identically, sure, but other than that, hell no
camilo is very bright and the family entertainer, as for carlos, he’s kind of the person that wishes the balloon at a birthday party chokes someone, and he’d like it
when he met you, he thought you were a normal person
that was until he took you all in
he would think about you all the time and just spend his days daydreaming
everyone knew something was wrong when he laughed out loud for once, and it was at something ACTUALLY funny
pepa had julietta check to see if he’s delirious or something
but when he was fine, everyone was just so confused
yet so scared
you kind of caught on that he likes you and confessed to him, he was over the moon
he’d sneak out and hang with you all day
he was in love
he decided to have you meet his family, since he loved you too much and his heart would explode if he didn’t because the thought of it was already too much
when that happened, his entire family stared at you as if you were some sort of angel
they thought you changed him for life
that was until camilo walked past them and carlos started glaring at him
they realized it was just you
“how come he can’t treat us like that”
when you’re not there, he’d be extra dark and creepy like he always is
he’s very protective of you
and EXTREMELY jealous
even of his own brother
he once caught camilo talking to you, he was asking about how to get a perfect date with this girl he liked
thats not what carlos thought
“he was just asking something about another girl he LIKES!”
“it’s a trick to get you to talk him!”
“oh my god.”
overall, even tho he’s a complete menace, he still only has a soft spot for you that will never be gone

No cure (Julieta x Reader)
Tumblr media
for nonie, hope you like it
_________________________
“Mom? Please answer me…I’m sorry. I didn’t want this to happen”
“Julieta, please…we need you, you can’t leave Bruno and I alone”
“Mija, your family misses you, your daughters need you, don’t leave us”
She could hear the voices in her room, she could feel her sister’s rain on her, her daughters hugging her, she could see the blurry form of her mother in front of her and her niece crying some steps behind. But that didn’t matter to her. They all knew why she was in that state. They knew it was their fault.
"I can't go on like this anymore" you had written "I love you, but I can't keep living in fear of not waking up again. I'm sorry"
And the rest of your letter had been erased due to her tears. The edges of it were torn and wrinkled, from the strength with which she clung to that piece of paper every night, as if her life depended on it, as if she could pull you out of the ink. It was painful, but it was the last thing that was left of you.
There were too many things she would regret for the rest of her life, no matter how short or how long that was, but allowing her daughters to cross so many lines with you, letting things get out of hand and not protecting you when she had to, was by far what weighed the most on her.
It came as no surprise to anyone that Isabela was cold and sharp with you, of her three daughters, she was the one who had been most mad at her when she divorced Agustín and the first to yell at her when she announced that she was dating someone else.
Julieta had tried to be understanding and patient with her, waiting for her daughter to have time to process everything, something you did too, which is why you hadn't introduced yourself to the family until much later. You wanted to respect her daughters, something that none of the three wanted to do with you.
Surprisingly, Luisa was always the nicest to you. She wasn't really close to you, but she would at least smile at you a bit and talk to you politely, though she never really let you get close to her. Mirabel wasn't rude either, but it was terribly obvious that she didn't want you there either.
She was always cold with you, she didn't answer you when you spoke to her, she left the room as soon as you entered and her characteristic friendly smile was never directed towards you. She never said it out loud, but both you and her mother knew that she shared the same thought as her older sister: get out of here.
And then there was Isabela.
From the first moment you set foot in Casita, the young woman made it her mission to make your life a hell. She was always making comments about your appearance, your body, your usefulness (which was none in her opinion), something that Julieta knew were your worst insecurities. She was always rude when she talked to you, she took every opportunity she got to remind you that you didn't belong in the family, that you would never be worthy of her mother.
Your girlfriend was always trying to calm things down, to reassure you that it was just a phase, that she loved you, that she wanted you by her side, and that her daughters would soon accept you, but she knew that every time you left the dining room without even touching your food, a part of you withered away. There came a time when she could no longer lie to herself.
The rest of the family wasn't helping either. Camilo played cruel pranks on you just to make Mirabel smile and even sweet Antonio looked down on you, if only to imitate his favorite cousin, and you also lost your voice. Dolores was always listening to you, of everything you did or said, so that Isabela could have more ammunition against you, there was no secret of yours that the two girls did not know, which left you vulnerable, paranoid and unable to really express anything for fear that it would be used against you. Little by little you stopped talking, even with her. The only times the healer would hear your voice was in the safety of night, in her room, where her niece couldn't hear you.
Julieta had tried to talk to the six children, but none had quit on their mission to torture you. She tried with Pepa and Felix, but her sister just shrugged and told her that she knew what she was getting into when she separated from her husband. Her brother-in-law had simply agreed with her sister, as always.
Mom didn't do anything either. She hadn't even wanted to accept you into the family, so she didn't care what her grandchildren did with you, the sooner you left and let her daughter "fix things" with Agustín, the better (no, she didn't care that said daughter had told her that there was nothing to fix, that everything was over between her and her ex-husband).
The only person who tried to make you feel welcome besides her was Bruno, and that didn't even count because the only reason he had to be nice to you was a vision he had. Julieta didn't want to know what was on the green tablet, the only thing that mattered to her was that before that, her brother hadn't wanted anything to do with you either. She was really alone in this. She started to be afraid you’d leave her because all her “family” was doing, but you always put a smile on your precious face and said you could hold yourself together for a little more.
And then the stupid Belladonna thing happened.
You already knew that you would never receive a beautiful flower from Isabela, and it was not uncommon for the occasional thorn to appear in your shoes (you had gotten used to checking them before putting them on for that very reason), but she never thought that the cruelty of her daughter could go so far.
She must have been suspicious when her eldest daughter had smiled sweetly at you, when she had spoken to you tenderly and offered a cup of tea she had never made. She could see in your eyes that you were just as confused and a little scared, but it was the first time that Isabela didn't insult you when talking to you, and you didn't want to ruin a possible peace agreement by rejecting it.
So you took it and thanked her with a soft smile that had warmed even her heart. For a moment, the older woman allowed herself to let down her guard and hope that things would get better. Silly of her, she forgot that she was the only daughter who could poison you.
You took a small sip, your mind torn between hoping that things would really get better, and fearing that it was just another joke. Perhaps you were expecting a spicy or salty touch, or some other alteration, but in reality it was sweet... too sweet.
Alerts went off in you, but as the girl looked at you with hopeful eyes, you just smiled and finished your cup. Juliet saw everything a few steps behind you, her heart softened and beating with love and hope. It seemed the beginning of something new, of a better relationship with her daughters... then the nightmare began.
A few minutes later you clung to the kitchen counter as if your life depended on it, you were dizzy and disoriented, your hands were sweaty and she could see that your pupils were dilated. Your face turned red, you couldn't seem to breathe, and he barely had time to catch you before you collapsed.
Camilo and Mirabel leaned out and gave Isabela a high five, which she told the healer that you had been the victim of another prank, but for some reason, this seemed too serious. Dolores confirmed this when she ran in a few seconds later, her eyes wide and her face full of guilt.
Her niece was terrified and her voice cracked as she screamed that your heart rate was too fast, and that this was not part of the plan. Juliet barely had to hear the word "belladonna" before she gasped and raced against the clock.
She had picked you up and carried you to the bathroom, Casita seemed to be on her side for once and helped her up the stairs quickly, while she blocked out the screams of the family behind her. She managed to make you vomit and as soon as you breathed well again, she put an arepa in your mouth to prevent the poisoning from advancing. She acted fast and managed to get you completely to safety, but fear and mistrust were firmly imprinted on you.
You heard your girlfriend fighting with her eldest daughter, who didn't seem even the least bit sorry for what she had done to you, despite the seriousness of the situation, and the banter didn't stop after that. It was then that, despite how much you loved Juliet, you had to make a decision, and barely a week after that, you disappeared in the middle of the night, leaving only a note behind you.
Julieta had cried even before she finished reading it, and her screams had woken everyone in the house, not just Dolores. At first her mother tried to get closer to her, but was greeted with a shoving and the most angry look she had ever seen in her life. Her anger was directed especially at her eldest granddaughter.
"It's not that bad, mom" Isabela said rolling her eyes.
"YOU COULD KILL HER!"
"You were there, weren't you? And I didn't even give him much belladonna, just a little-"
"ENOUGH!" Julieta had yelled, taking everyone by surprise "I'm sick of all this, I'm tired of all of you. She didn't do anything, she was never rude, she never raised her voice to anyone and you treated her like dirt"
"Juli-"
"Why?” she asked with a voice so broken that Alma wanted to cry “I have never done anything against this family. I was always your perfect golden doll, I never said no, I even married a man I didn’t want to because YOU thought it was the best for me. Was I a bad daughter?”
“No, mija, that’s-”
“Then why? Why couldn’t I be happy? Why couldn’t you all support me the only time I choose myself?”
The Madrigals didn’t know what to say, and Julieta’s daughters were divided between the shock of knowing their mother didn't want to marry their father in the first place and seeing the woman the three of them looked up to breaking in front of them like a scared little girl.
“Julieta-”
“I know you never liked Y/N” she interrupted her sister “but I do, Pepa, I really do”
“Mom, I didn’t-”
“You don’t talk to me, Isabela” she growled “not tonight. You’re the one who treated her the worst, you tried to kill her for god’s sake! What if I hadn’t been there? Have you thought about it?”
The girl tried not to cry but her mother’s words were cutting her like sharp knives. Maybe because Julieta had never spoken to her like that before, maybe it was the deep disappointment in her eyes…or maybe, it was because she knew she was right. You could have died for what she did.
“But that doesn’t matter” the healer whispered “you got what you wanted. What ALL of you wanted. She’s gone…congratulations”
“Juli-”
“You didn’t want her to be part of the family” she cut her sister “now I wish I wasn’t either”
And with that, she had closed her room’s door on everyone’s faces, leaving all the family shocked, scared and feeling terribly guilty. They knew they couldn’t do anything at the moment, and Isabela and Dolores were crying, they just hoped things would get better the next day.
_______________
But the next day had turned into a week, and then a month. Julieta never spoke to any of them again, she didn’t smile, didn’t laugh, she didn’t even look at them. She just did her shores and locked herself in her room. Her eyes were red, her skin lost the healthy glow it once had, her hair was a mess, she lost weight and didn’t have that friendly and motherly shape anymore. She became a ghost.
And what scared them the most was that, by the third month after you left, the glow on her door faded. It reminded them of Bruno’s door before he came back. Pepa had cried and begged for her sister to forgive them all, Alma regretted every single choice she made about her daughter’s life without her consent, Dolores and Isabela were about to lose their sanity. Everyone missed Julieta, but none could do anything to bring her back. She was dying in front of them”
“Julieta, please…please” Pepa begged again
“Mija”
“Mami”
“There’s no use” Bruno sighed, making everyone look at him “we did this”
“Tío Bruno?” Mirabel asked as he showed them the vision he had
“She’s not coming back” he whispered “there’s no cure for a broken heart”

—Empanada | Camilo x fem!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
request. [Anon] Hii, I’m here for a request :3 Can you write a fluff one-shot Camilo x fem reader where Camilo present the reader to the whole family and theirs reactions? Bye have a nice day!!
Tumblr media
Warnings. Ooc Madrigal family, Camilo is ooc(?), Agustin didn't get screen time, suggestive content(just camilo suggesting to call him papi), Fluff, cliché ending.
Notes. Hello Anon!! Thank you sm for the request! Sorry it took so long I got kind of busy with tests but here it is! I hope you have a nice day too:DD!!
Tumblr media
Camilo never found the time to introduce you to his family, Felix and Pepa's Anniversary celebration came around and it seems (un)luck settles with him.
Tumblr media
"Mami, Papi, this is (name), my partner" Camilo your lover introduced as you waved awkwardly towards the two adults.
Today, encanto was celebrating an event which you had no clue what was it about, although looking at the matching colours of the theme and the outfit the couple in front of you were wearing, you assumed it was their anniversary.
According to Camilo, you haven't met anyone from your partners side, well except for Antonio who practically acted as your son during your relationship, Camilo was a little jealous at first because your attention would go to his little brother more if he was in the same room as him, but the more it happens the more he thinks your an amazing example of a wife.
The duo in front of you seemed to be enthusiastic and lovable. I guess you know know where Camilo gets those from.
"I hope my son treats you right" the redhead–Pepa which she introduced as–told you honestly as she took your palms in her hands, a small smile on her face.
Her husband, Felix, was by her side sincerely nodding along with an arm on her waist, it was a sweet relationship, like the both of yours, your just more...introverted.
"He does" you started and starred happily at the both of them, your lips twitching upward unconsciously "you have a great son Mrs. Madrigal"
Suddenly, a call of a pair of names alerted the duo of their need of appearance, giving the both of you a smile "no need for honorifics, call me Tia if you would like so"
"Call me papa too!" Felix butted in as Camilo playfully scoffed at this "pa! (Name) probably doesn't want to-"
"Thank you so much Tia and papa, happy anniversary too" you told the both of them, Camilo looking at you dumbfoundedly as the couple in front of looked at you proudly.
"The pleasure is all ours"
"That ended well" you told the curly head beside you, a smile plastered on your features, Camilo on the other hand playfully pouted at you.
Crossing his arms at you "it didn't! How am I gonna live with you calling my father 'papa'?!" You laughed at him, patting his shoulder apologisingly "don't worry, I'm not, let a man have their fun"
"You should call me papi" Camilo smirked at you, while you looked at him bored out of your mind "I would rather not"
Not long after the conversation, a voice interrupted the both of you, directing your attention towards the crowd
"(name)!" A familiar voice shouted from the distance, you grinned at it and kneeled down, readying yourself for a force of impact.
"Tonito'! Hello!" You greeted and hugged the boy, the curly head giggling back at you while you squeezed him tightly before carrying him on your arm.
"How is my buddy going?" You grinned at him while he answered your question with the things he had done with Mirabel, which you pressumed who you will meet next.
Speaking of the devil, a curly head emerged from the crowd, panicking as her hair seems to be dishevelled, however, she seemed to perked up at Antonio's voice not too far from where she is standing, directing her attention to you and the boy happily chatting in your arms.
"Antonio, there you are, I was looking for you" she sighed in relief and Antonio looked clueless but shrugged her statement off.
He pointed at you with a smile on his face "I'm with (name)! By the way, (name) this is Mirabel, Mirabel this is (name)" he introduced the both of you, if you're asking where Camilo might be he is sitting on the floor, bored that you have just been introducing yourself to his family the whole day.
It's his fault that you just met them today.
"Pleasure to meet you" you grinned and placed Antonio down, shaking hands with the female madrigal, she complied and shook hands with you.
"Your Camilo's partner right? You know you should have someone better" she whispered at you jokingly, Camilo whining just below the two of you as Mirabel giggled at him.
"Please, he's the only one available" you joked back, the boy below you shooting you an offended expression, exaggerating it with a hand on his hand.
The both of you laughed at his expression while you calmly told him that your joking, Antonio, who now wanted nothing to do in the conversation, tugged Mirabels hand and waved a goodbye to you, wanting to join into the dancing in the center.
"We should go get food" you muttered to Camilo while sticking your hand out to him, helping him up to stand, he happily obliged, finally happy to spend time with you rather than listening to introductions.
"I heard Tia made some Empanada's!" The boy beside you excitedly told you as he unconsciously held your hand, dragging you along the food stall.
"I never tasted Tia's Empanada's before" you replied, now looking for the tray that stored the Empanada's.
Camilo frowned when he couldn't look for the food he excitedly wanted to taste, unfortunately for the both of you, the food seems to be out of stock, which made the both of you eat arepas instead.
"Arepas taste better anyway" you tempted to enlighten the situation as you realized how bummed out your partner was when the Empanada's were out.
Camilo pouted at you, but lightheartedly chuckled at your attempt at making him smile, although it was a bummer the both of you weren't able to munch on the Empanada's.
"Huh? (name)? Didn't know you were here" A once again familiar voice spoke to you, well you assumed spoke to you as the two of you looked upwards.
Camilo grumbled and visibly pouted at how somebody disturbed your quality time together, not to mention how another introduction will happen right infront of him.
"Luisa! Hey, how are you?" You smiled and fist bumped the taller female infront of you, the curly haired boy frowning in confusion at the interaction.
"I'm doing great! I also followed your advice! It's really fun to see a dandelion grow" Luisa Charmed in, the both of your now engaging in a deep conversation of who knows what.
Camilo on the other hand looked stunned, since when did the two of you meet? And a dandelion? Advice? Dude, how long is this friendship been going? How come he wasn't aware about it?
His thoughts were abruptly cut off by another voice pitching in the conversation.
"Isa! How are you doing today?" You greeted and hugged her back, Isabela smiling up at you, until her gaze landed on a lost child right beside you.
"Oh! This is my partner I was talking about" you introduced as Isabela frowned, Luisa congratulating the both of you of having a healthy relationship.
"You have horrible taste" Isabela calmly stated, although you couldn't identify who she was talking to as she faced the arepas in the counter.
"What-" "I'm not talking to you"
Camilo shut his mouth after he got cutted off, Ouch, what's up with Camilo Hate all of a sudden, You snickered at that while your lover shooted you a glare.
"Anyways, (name) you should teach me how to do flower crowns! I heard you know how to" Isabela excitedly told you, although you assumed she doesn't mean right now as people seems to be calling her.
"Sure, Whenever your free" you grinned while she happily nodded, before waving a goodbye, it was a short conversation but hey, it was an interaction.
Luisa on the other hand, was also needed for something, the piano you pressumed as she also waved a goodbye while running towards a direction to who knows what.
"I got fresh Empanada's" Julieta called out when she noticed the two of you near the food Bruno tagging along with a few rats with him, you grinned while Camilo's eyes sparkled with excitement, grabbing two Empanada's on the tray.
"Sorry I got it late, Agustin got chased by bees" she sighed at her husbands clumsiness, you waved her off, also grabbing an empanada on the tray.
"It's fine Tia, as long as Tio is okay" you smiled up at her.
"Aww sometimes I think your too nice for our Camilo"
Camilo could feel his heart shatter, I guess today really is hate on Camilo day, are you really out of his league? He thought he's the only one who thinks that.
"By the way, this is Bruno, I believe you haven't met him" Julieta Introduced as you nodded along lifting a hand up towards the boy.
"Hello, I'm (name) Camilo's partner" Bruno sort of looked stunned but softly smiled and shook you hand "I'm Bruno, but you probably already know that"
You smiled as your attention suddenly went to his rats, who were hiding in his ruana, Bruno realized this and hid them more, thinking you didn't want to see them "sorry- they are my friends, they always-" and was cut of by you.
"You should introduce me to them sometime, I would love to meet them" you grinned as Bruno starred at you at utter disbelief, his attention suddenly went to Camilo, who looked dumbstruck at what Julieta said earlier, but still listening in the conversation.
"Camilo, take care of them, she's a keeper"
"Oh my, its nice to finally meet you" a soft spoken voice slightly, caught your attention if it wasn't for Julieta looking further behind you, cutting off the telepathic conversation Camilo and Bruno were having
"Wait sorry, are we disturbing something here or?" Mariano, Dolores's partner apologised while Julieta politely shook her head.
"No, I'm afraid your not" she smiled before adding, holding both of yours and Camilo's shoulder by each hand "well, we'llleave the four of you to it, I have to find Agustin before he gets stings again"
"And I have to find Roberto too" Bruno added to Julieta's statement as you nodded in understanding.
The four of you bid your goodbyes, you mentally thinking why every encounter you engage on another one, however, you do not decide the plot of this story.
Once Julieta and Bruno took their leave, Dolores excitedly held both of your hands, she probably wanted to see you for so long but your paths couldn't cross with the things the both of you had to do.
"Hi, I'm Dolores, Camilo's sister and I want you to know that Camilo once peed thinking that you will reject him" she introduced, calmly stating an embarrassing moment like it didn't affect the person involved which by the way was now trying to prohibit his sister to tell more.
"Okay okay, I won't tell her more, But I want you to know is that my dear brother loves you dearly and would die to save you, me and Mariano have been trying to get the both of you together when we saw you play with the children with him"
Completely ignoring her word, Dolores continued embarrassing her brother more, but fortunately for Camilo, its hiss first time the whole day to hear someone say the both of you are meant to be together, like two peas in a pod.
Although the sweet moment didn't last long as abuela also approached the four of you, ah yes the final boss, it may not seem to be for others as abuela stopped being into 'perfection' after the fall of Casita, but to Camilo, getting Abuela's blessing is like winning the lottery.
"Dolores, if you may" She slightly told her, The girl beside you, nodding away and headed to the dance floor with Mariano, the both of them swaying to the music with smiles on her face, of course not before telling you to meet up with her right after.
You looked at Abuela a soft smile on your face, yes your partner may told his issues to you about her abuela before but then again, you understood her perspective but you don't encourage it either.
She softly smiled towards you to, then to Camilo "I'm happy for you Camilo" gently, she took her hand in hers, your partner stunned at what the older female said.
"Please take care of him as I couldn't do so" she softly told you, your eyes slightly blurred on you, it wasn't emotional oh dear no—you just know the history of those words that made it emotional.
You removed your hands from her hold, taking her own and smiled to her, Camilo on the sidelines looking at the both of you, still slightly stunned but very happy, more likely very happy at the next words you spoke.
"I will, always"

Do you have any hcs for Julieta and Pepa sharing a love interest? How they would decide to divide their time, who’s the more jealous/insecure of the two sisters, how they would agree to do PDA with their darling, etc
Pepa and Julieta sharing a lover!
this is such a good idea omg!! i’ve been dying to write this for the longest time and i’m so happy i finally did. happy reading :)) btw sorry if this is all over the place, i had a demon child bothering me the whole time. (if you know you know)
Tumblr media
Pepa was definitely more of the jealous type, she was just so possessive over you.
Julieta was a little jealous sometimes, but would never admit it to herself or you.
When she felt you were giving too much attention to Pepa, she’d just stay quiet whenever the 3 of you would hang out together.
When dividing your time, Julieta had weekends and Wednesdays while Pepa had Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. On Fridays the three of you would do something together like play games or have a movie night.
You 3 agreed on this because both Julieta and Pepa felt setting time aside for the both of them alone as well as together would cause a healthy relationship.
Pepa would show PDA in public. Kisses on the lips, cheek, neck, you name it and she’ll do it. She also LOVES to twirl your hair between her fingers to tease you. It never fails to distract you in serious situations.
Julieta wouldn’t show as much PDA. The most she’ll do is kisses on the cheek, arm holding, and interlock pinkies instead of hold hands.
Of course Julieta will have more physical contact with you in public if you two were dancing or something, which is an amazing excuse to use at parties. You wanted “to dance” so you could hold hands with her and put your hands on her hips.
When you two were alone though, Julieta was all over you. Her fingers were tangled in your hair and you always felt her warm breath on your neck.
When the 3 of you hung out, Pepa wasn’t afraid to do anything with you like Julieta was. Like Pepa would be the one flirting, making small conversation, etc. while Julieta and you would just talk to her.
It’s not that Julieta was ashamed of you, she was just shy.
If people spoke bad about you though, Julieta’s bad side would come out and she wouldn’t hesitate to defend you.
“With all due respect, who asked for your opinion on Y/N? Last time I checked, it was absolutely no one.”
If Pepa heard someone talking bad about you, she’d go absolutely feral. No one would come out alive.
“Hey! What’s your problem?!?! You don’t get to talk bad about Y/N and get away with it!”
She’d leave a ton of bruises and chancleta (sandal) marks all over the person’s face from hitting them. They’d also be wet from her falling rain. The person would never dare to speak another bad word about you again.
If both of them heard people saying bad things about you at the same time, they’d give them dirty looks and act like nothing was wrong when in reality, they just made it onto the sisters’ blacklist.
They never told you about this though. To them, you were one of the people they loved most that needed to be protected at all costs.
To them, you were just so cute. They always did group hugs between you 3 and you could never escape their grasp.
Group hugs would usually result in cuddle sessions. You guys would rant to each other about your day and it really helped with stress.
When you walked next to the 2 of them, one was always on your right and the other was on your left. You’d wrap your arms around them and give a kiss on the cheek to each of them.
At night, you’d flip a coin to see who would sleep with you. If nothing could be decided, the three of you just slept together.
Julieta always wanted attention from her lover, but would never admit it to herself and she was afraid that you liked Pepa more than her.
You and Pepa noticed this, and you always reassured that you did not have any favorites.
“A woman is a woman” you told Julieta “And I love women.”
This never failed to bring a smile to her face.
Pepa required attention as well, but she didn’t mind if you spent more time with Julieta on certain days.
When you teased Pepa and Julieta by kissing the corner of their mouths instead of their lips, Pepa would pull you back by the collar of the shirt and make you kiss her while Julieta would just bite her lip in an attempt to hold herself back from kissing you everywhere.
Sometimes, you’d take only one of them out on dates to places that would fit them.
An example would be doing pottery with Julieta and another would be cloud gazing with Pepa.
When it was Valentine’s day, life was challenging. You had to please 2 women in one night and go for as many rounds as they wanted. Same thing for their birthdays. But you were more than up to the challenge, you loved them both so much.
Whenever one of them would mention a favorite (mostly Pepa) you would always tell her that you loved them both the same and told her it was like having to choose a favorite child.
She’d gasp and shake her head, signifying she understood how hard it was to make a decision like that.
In times of intimacy, aka sex, you’d usually be alone with one of them because the three of you agreed to not have a threesome of any kind. (they didn’t tolerate incest and neither did you because ew)
Julieta’s sex drive was daily low, while Pepa’s was in the middle (meaning like she’d need to have sex at least once a week).
They were both always up for it though when you’d ask them.
When you had a make out session with one, you always had to look for the other sister and make it even. It didn’t matter what they were doing. They were always in the mood.
Whenever one of them got into arguments with you, it was always the sisters vs you, even if they were right or wrong.
If you got into a fight with Julieta, Pepa would tell you straight up to apologize to her sister.
“I’m just saying, be the bigger person and apologize!”
And if you got into a fight with Pepa, Julieta would urge you to solve it as soon as possible, aka apologizing to Pepa.
“Mi corazon, I love you but you should resolve this with Pepa as soon as you can. It’s important. I can help if you want.”
You’d always respond with an adoring eye roll, wrapping your arm around them pulling them in for a kiss on the forehead. It never failed to make their hearts melt.
This was always followed by a “You’re lucky I love you” or a “I’m only accepting this because you’re adorable.” It was so weird how they always said the same thing even though they were different people. You thought it had to be a twin thing.
This always made your legs tremble and your heart skip a beat. You loved them so much, and you couldn’t be more grateful to have these two wonderful women in your life.
