Happy Friday, friends! I’ve never done monthly wrap ups before but since Wireless pulled me back from a brief hiatus, I thought it would be cool to share some things I’ve been reading, that could use more love. 10 fics both old and new, Drarry and rare pairs, Wireless treats; pick your poison and have fun! 🙌
Drarry
Muscle Memory by @corvuscrowned (E, 7k) - brilliant concept perfectly executed, I’m so here for curse-breaking colleagues who fuck at the job to pass time and then forget about it every time 🤌🏼 genius and intriguing and captivating as per crow’s usual
There's something just beneath the surface, just at the periphery of Harry's mind. They've been here before — they've done this before. If only he could remember it.
And Embers at Your Lips by @nametheshadows (T, 15k) - sequel to one of my all-time favorite 8th year fics with insomniac roommates just as soft and healing as LLAYF. Gorgeous prose and all the kissing. Highly rec this series for A+ comfort food!
The sequel to Like Lightning at Your Fingertips: the kissing montage. And there’s that thing with Potter’s magic.
Rich Friend, Anon (E, 18k) - one of my faves from Wireless, pop star!Draco never gets old and both the pacing and the romance are perfectly developed! I live for Harry’s horny yearning and for their road trip together, kudos to casual Harry/Neville as a side ship!
As far as Harry can tell, Draco Malfoy is still rich as hell. He’s just not a wizard anymore. Featuring: Draco Malfoy trying to make it as a Muggle pop star, Harry Potter as our confused and horny hero, bad driving, good music, and the mysterious magic of falling for someone.
Waking Up Slow, Anon (E, 22k) - this ode to advent Drarry fics took my breath away with a charming Draco, fun dynamics, an enchanting Christmas shop and one of the sexiest smut scenes I’ve read this year, 10/10 recommend for hot & sweet magical vibes and lots of references as an homage to the classics!
'Twas the night before Christmas, although it’s July / Draco’s a shopkeeper, no-one knows why / There’s hiking and witch caves, freak snowfalls and more / Bad Christmas jumpers, nosy neighbours galore / Narcissa’s here too, but… something’s amiss / And what’s in those chocolates that’s making them kiss?
We Are Legend by Vaysh (E, 38k) - happy to report to @romaine2424 that I have finally read this epic apocalypse AU and am shooketh with its originality and serious tone. One of the most creative takes I’ve seen on animagus Draco, a poignant and devastating war story.
Eighty years into the future, Voldemort won. Harry Potter is a renegade wizard, Portkeying Muggles out of London to Hogwarts, last sanctuary in a Britain ruled by the Dark Lord. On a mission he encounters a powerful phoenix Animagus fighting on the Death Eaters' side. He recognises Draco Malfoy whom he thought long dead. But the differences between them are perhaps even greater than before. Cw: MCD
LA, Who Am I To Love You?, Anon (E, 42k) - I cannot believe this beauty was written for my lil Wireless prompt ♥️ perfect LA vibes, gorgeous aesthetics, horny ust and a fascinating take on both down and out bi Harry and out and proud bi Draco, we love to see it! Couldn’t have asked for a better story to fill my prompt, ty anon!
Harry’s summer in LA is not going as expected. Pansy Parkinson keeps inviting him to parties in the Hollywood Hills and harassing him to finally go to the physical therapist, Blaise Zabini keeps slipping new strains of his company’s magical weed into Harry’s pockets in hopes of an endorsement, and Draco Malfoy keeps having sex with everyone but Harry.
Rare Pairs
A Different Tune by November Snowflake (M, 8k) - very nice Dron get together, short & sweet with an undercurrent melancholy that I love, just what I needed before bed
Working in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office has led Ron to many strange encounters--but none more unexpected than this one. Cw: Harry’s dead
The Years Between by brummell (M, 14k) - another rare pair fave, this Rarry fic told from Ron’s smitten and jealous pov as he helps Harry recover from a coma is so deliciously raw and angsty. Gorgeous slow burn, the feels!
For both Harry and Ron, a wake-up call is just the beginning.
Things Remembered by avioleta (E, 17k) - best Snarry fic I’ve read this year, I’m low key obsessed with this hitmen + amnesia concept and how the romance develops so organically while they’re on the run. Intriguing plot, sexy ust and super scorching smut that made me salivate jfc 🔥
Harry wakes up in an unfamiliar bed, in an unfamiliar hotel room, and with absolutely no idea who he is. The man he’s in bed with has no memories either. But they think, maybe, they’re assassins, because they seem to be very good at killing people.
A Dress with Pockets by PacificRimbaud (E, 25k) - a Panville classic recced by anon (ty!!), what a sexy and vibrant read! I LOVED Neville and their dynamics are brilliant and so funny, I just couldn’t get enough of these characters. 100% sold on this ship pls and thank
Pansy Parkinson needed a drink. And a shag. She didn't care in which order. Enter: Neville fucking Longbottom and his rolled up sleeves.

I read seven (7) books in July! How exciting! And four of them were on my goals list for the month! Still didn't get to The Unconquered City, but I'll just throw that into August goals. I didn't feel great this month, so I spent a lot of down time reading. Forced bed rest does wonders for your reading habits haha
I also played a couple of fun games! A Little to the Left is a fun puzzle game where you organize things in various ways and sometimes a cat comes and ruins your day. There's also a level where you just pet the cat. Very fun, very calming, 10/10, do recommend. Superliminal is another puzzle game that was WEIRD and definitely did not made me cry a bit. Also fun, but would not recommend it if you get dizzy easily.
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A reread, but I enjoyed it even more the second time around! I appreciated Denna more now that I wasn't suspicious of her haha
Is Love the Answer? by Uta Isaki ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beautiful, spoke to me, a delightful little standalone graphic novel, love that asexual rep
TAZ: The Eleventh Hour by The McElroys and Carey Pietsch ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This was my favorite TAZ arc and they adapted it in such a clever way! Love how they did the many death loops!
In the Lives of Puppets by TJ Klune ⭐⭐ not my favorite of Klunes novels, I wasn't invested in any of the characters, and the dialogue did not do it for me
A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Oh gosh, for a book I was on the fence about reading, I'm so glad I read this. What an emotional ride, I've already got book three on my desk.
Untethered Sky by Fonda Lee ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ow. lol. This is what Black Wings Beating should have been. A perfect little chunk of a novella.
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros ⭐⭐This was not a fantasy with romantic elements, this was a romance with fantasy elements, which is Fine, but not my thing. It did not need to be as long as it was, and YET. Also. Give me more dragons.
If all goes right for August I will also be on best rest for a bit but for Good Reasons, and will finally read The Unconquered City after all this time. My friend lent my Iron Widow too so I'm excited to jump into that! I took a couple books out of the library, and while I don't know if I'll make it to book club, we're reading Tress of the Emerald Sea by Snunderson so. Guess I'll read that too lol I'm putting good energy into August, life has got to turn around at some point and I am making it NOW.

July 2023 Wrap Up
July was a great month. We had a wonderful weeklong vacation in Gloucester, MA with my in-laws, celebrated the two year anniversary of adopting our cats, and got to spend plenty of time with friends. I certainly can't complain about my summer so far!
Books Read: 15
Look at me go! My favorite new read was The Travelling Cat Chronicles, which is now my favorite book of the year. I also learned upon rereading Mansfield Park that I actually really like it. And of course I had a great time rereading my ultimate comfort books: the All for the Game series. My least favorite was Snapshots of a Daughter-in-Law, which I found completely disappointing. I like Rich's prose works a lot, but her poetry doesn't agree with me. Books marked with ® are rereads.
The Autobiography of Margaret Oliphant by Margaret Oliphant - 3.5 stars
Under Two Flags by Ouida - 3.5
Book of Longing by Leonard Cohen - 4 stars
Blush: Faces of Shame by Elspeth Probyn - 3 stars
Thief Liar Lady by D. L. Soria - 5 stars
Snapshots of a Daughter-in-Law: Poems 1954-1962 by Adrienne Rich - 2 stars
Cujo by Stephen King - 5 stars
The Shadow in the Glass by JJA Harwood - 4 stars
Mansfield Park by Jane Austen - 5 stars ®
The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa - 5 stars
A Memoir of Jane Austen and Other Family Recollections by James Edward Austen-Leigh, edited by Kathryn Sutherland - 4 stars
The Guest List by Lucy Foley - 4 stars
The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic - 5 stars ®
The Raven King by Nora Sakavic - 5 stars ®
The King's Men by Nora Sakavic - 5 stars ®
On Tumblr:
Look, I have things here! I've started posting book photos again, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. There are also some lovely pictures of the cats taken at the kennel where they boarded during our vacation. I highly recommend checking them out because my boys are adorable (and clearly I'm not biased at all).

July was a slumpy month. It started out strong with Per My Last Email and Places We've Never Been being among the best books I've read this year but then after the disaster that was The Penalty Box I hit a slump, got into a bunch of other genres but I feel like after that book I'm not getting the feeling of reading a romance book ever again! It was SO BAD (giving it 2 stars is being generous)! Fingers crossed August is better! Here's the wrap up:
Pretty Little Wife ⭐⭐
Per My Last Email ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Spin the Dawn ⭐⭐⭐
Places We've Never Been ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Paris Apartment ⭐⭐⭐
The Island of Monsters ⭐⭐⭐
The Penalty Box ⭐⭐
The Island Villa ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Eight Perfect Murders ⭐⭐⭐
The Four Winds ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Liar's Girl ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Untouched Crime ⭐⭐⭐

July Wrap Up
Let's just all collectively agree to ignore the fact that my July post is coming to you live from the sunset of August, ok? I could have had this done weeks ago when I took some time off work, but I DIDN'T. It isn't like I read a lot, or even wrote a lot, in July. But life happens and idk, man. I'm in this weird little funk right now.
Things I Wrote
I spent most of July decidedly Not Writing™. Until the last week of the month, naturally, when I spent a couple hours each night putting together my entry for our second "Write This In Your Style" collection. The Bloody At Your Door collection went live on Aug 1, but I'm still counting it as July writing. Especially because it is anyone's guess whether I'll manage to write at all in August (the muse has been a fickle and elusive little bitch).
Anyways, my angsty little open-ended contribution is titled the nature of breaking (dramione, E, 5k). I'm begging you to check out the rest of the collection if you haven't already. I'm astoundingly lucky to call these writers my friends.
Things I Read
Get ready, because I'm about to blow. your. mind. THAT'S RIGHT, FOLKS! I READ A TRADITIONALLY PUBLISHED BOOK! And it is all @eggbagelsjr and @mightbewriting's fault. So what if the only book I read so far this year was a monsterfucking book? IT MADE ME HAPPY.
Tumblr media
My fanfic track record for July is pretty abysmal. Outside of a multi-chap group read in the RoR discord server, I managed a handful of completed fics. I blazed through all of the available chapters for a deliciously depraved (new to me) WIP, and caught up on another. I have otherwise fallen behind on pretty much all of the WIPs I'm following.
Fiction:
Morning Glory Milking Farm by C.M. Nascosta (approx. 60k words)
Nonfiction:
Fanfiction:
Complete: (approx. 34.2k)
Best in Show by naughtybaguette (dramione, E, 6.6k)
The Nature of Seduction by @dreamsofdramione and @artofcrumbs (panville, E, 6k)
wanna lay my head where the cold wind blows by @one-equaltemper (dramionstoria, E, 7.8k)
Keep Swinging Your Bat My Way by @veelawings (dron, E, 1k)
Group Read: riddle me this by @megamegaturtle (dramione, GA, 8.1k)
Group Read: His Lucky Day by @monsterleadmehome (dramione, E, 5k)
WIPs: (approx. 217.9k)
Fervidity by @kittenshift-17 - Chapters 1 - 26 (dramione/sevmione/dramionbastan(?), E, 215.8k)
Where There's Smoke by @whimsymanaged - Chapter 4 (dramione, E, 2.1k)
Things I'm Currently Reading (Heading into August)
We continued our group read of @pacific-rimbaud's Love and Other Historical Accidents in July, flailing our way through Chapters 6-11. I'm still out here having the goddamn time of my life with this fic (the group finished it mid-August, but I missed the final chapter read and I'm still hanging on because I don't want it to end). I also hopped into another RoR group read for Chosen, by 5moreminutes. I only made it to the first read, so I'm just a couple of chapters in, but this fic is so wonderful and features Hannah Abbott as a side character and OH MY GOD I JUST WANT TO PUT HER IN MY POCKET AND KEEP HER FOREVER.
And since we're already ignoring the lateness of this post, let's also ignore that last month I said my July goal was to cross two fics off my TBR list, hmm? I do not wish to be perceived.
